About

Located in historic Charles Town, West Virginia, this circa 1840 Federal Style grand home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Carriage Inn Bed and Breakfast has witnessed couples getting engaged, honeymoons, romantic getaways, parents getting needed refreshment away for the children, and many more life events! Colonial and Civil War history surround you at every turn. Roam nearby Harpers Ferry or Antietam Battlefields. Savor your gourmet breakfast in the room where, on September 17, 1864, Generals U.S. Grant and Philip Sheridan planned the Shenandoah Valley Campaign of 1864 and where Southern Generals John Ashby, J.E.B. Stewart, Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee were entertained. Cheer on your pick to the winner's circle at the Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races. Break out of the rat race for a renewing weekend of outdoor adventure hiking the Appalachian Trail, biking the C & O Canal, canoeing, kayaking, zip-lining, or gently floating down the scenic Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers. Relax while being productive, taking advantage of the amenities we offer our business guests! Let us pamper you and your getaway at The Carriage Inn will become a memory that longs to be enjoyed again and again!

Robyn and I would like to thank Marie and Donn for a wonderful evening in their beautiful home. We came in like 2 river rats after a tubing trip and they treated us like royalty. Breakfast the next morning was world class. Thanks ! Jerry

Wonderful history with delightful hosts! This is a "must stay here" choice if you are in the Harper 's Ferry / Charles Town area.

Innkeeper Response

Our failure to reply in a timely manner does not reflect our sincere appreciation for your stay and for your taking time to let others know about us! Thanks you!

Lovely historic home and wonderful hosts

4.8 on May 12, 2016

As soon as we walked in, my wife and I were greeted by Marie. She gave us a tour of the home and explained the wonderful history. Each afternoon there were even homemade desserts for all the guests to enjoy. I would highly recommend this B&B - reasonable prices, stellar service, comfortable accommodations and a delicious breakfast each morning on our 3 night stay. Donn and Marie are excellent inn keepers who are willing to share their knowledge of the local towns and make your visit a memorable one!

Innkeeper Response
What a nice review. Thank you so much! Hope you return soon and we can help you relax and fall in love with this area.

Great vist

5 on May 07, 2016

If you are a history buff, this is the place to stay because Grant, Lee, Jackson and many more visited or stayed here. Marie was super hostess. Rooms were very comfortable and had treats at arms length. Great breakfast and fantastic chocolate cookies. Restaurants - Med Cafe is super, Italian is great for desserts or dinner. Local area full of shops and history. Would stay here again.

Innkeeper Response
Thanks so much for taking time to post this review!! We REALLY appreciate your endorsement! It means so much to future guests! We hope to see you again soon!

Gorgeous home; fabulous hosts; great location!

5 on November 02, 2015

Donn and Marie were the most marvelous hosts! Their house is historic, restored authentically, and we now know all the history of it, as well, due to their interest, research, and gracious sharing of it. We will be back!

Innkeeper Response
Thanks so much for your kind words! They encourage us to "keep on!" They sure help future guests know what you experienced! We appreciate your taking the time to "review" us! We will be looking forward to your next visit!

Near both wilderness and Washington

5 on November 05, 2014

The Carriage Inn was an excellent location that was near the Appalachian Trail and an arms length from DC. Innkeepers Donn and Marie provided a welcoming environment as well as a touch of historical perspective the inn has played over the past 150 years. All of this combined with nice restaurants within walking distance made our stay a fine experience

Innkeeper Response
We are so excited to hear that you enjoyed your stay!! And we appreciate your kindness in telling others about your experience! We look forward to welcoming you again soon! All the VERY BEST to you!

Carriage Inn

We had a fabulous 2 nite stay at the Carriage Inn. Donn and Marie were the ultimate host/hostess. They could not have been more accommodating and did all they could to enhance our stay and make it a memorable experience - which they did. We went with another couple for a get-away-from-home short trip and all of us had a fabulous time. Hospitality and breakfast were outstanding. We would return in a heartbeat.

Innkeeper Response
WOW! How nice of you to let others know about your stay! Your comments energize us to serve more diligently the wonderful guests who come our way! Thanks!

Relaxing!

4.8 on September 21, 2014

We had a wonderful stay celebrating our Anniversary!! Unfortunantly we did not get the room we had booked, but the one in it's place was rich with history too! The house was quiet, relaxing, and the attention to detail was noticed throughout our stay! Breakfast was absolutely delicious as well! Thank you for your wonderful hospitality! We highly recommend this B&B!! Chris & Sheri B.

Innkeeper Response
We HATE it when we mess up a reservation! It rarely happens, but someone else booked the room you wanted only minutes ahead of you guys on a separate reservation system and before we could block it off of the system you used, you booked it too! In spite of our mistake, we are SO glad you had a good stay and very much appreciate your kind words! Hope you enjoyed the complimentary chocolate truffles! Looking forward to the time you can return and NEXT TIME we WILL get you in The Mary Rutherford Room! :-)

- Donn & Marie Davis, Innkeepers (innkeeper)
