My bestie and I spent the weekend catching up and working. We had a blast. The room was comfy and the house beautiful! The ladies who run the show are warm and funny. The best part, the breakfasts. Incredibly delicious. Wonderful cookies in the evening. We laughed so much. Stay here! And as a side benefit, walking distance to many nice restaurants.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Everyone there made us feel completely comfortable, the food was excellent and the conversations with both the staff and the other guests made for a great time. We look forward to going back another time.
The food was amazing, and the host is genuinely nice. The house is a wonderfully restored example of Mid-Western Victorian architecture, and features period correct decor. The bed was OK, but bring your own pillows. The pillows were flat. Truthfully, this was our only complaint. Aside from that, it was a wonderful weekend!
We had a beautiful stay in July 2016. The house has a wonderful architecture and a charming flair of the good old times. It is huge, and Steven is a super nice guy. Suites are well maintained and breakfast very tasty. A 35 minute drive to O'Hare. Perfect stay outside of Chicago.
We had a great stay at The Mansion for one night. The hosts are very nice and welcoming, and the breakfast was delicious. They also had around the clock butterscotch cookies and tea. The house has a nice old charm to it, and the room was cozy. (John F. Fierke Suite)
Stay there. Really. It's lovely. Sherry is a fantastic hostess. Carolyn makes a terrific breakfast. Great people to talk to over coffee and eggs benedict. Tea and really good cookies we're waiting for us when we arrived. Our room was very comfortable. Lady Theresa's Room is perfect for two people. The Presidential Chamber looked fantastic for a romantic getaway or a longer stay. Nice area on a dead end street. The right mix of quiet and close to everything. Pretty garden areas and porches give you space outside of your room to relax or work, with house wi-fi available. Traveler considerations: House cat Boogey Boy is unobtrusive and stays downstairs away from the rooms. We like cats, so we wouldn't have minded interacting with him more, but if you are highly allergic it is something to consider. Also, there are no guest rooms on the main floor, so you need to be able to climb a flight of stairs. Again, not an issue for us, but something to be aware of when planning your trip. We will stay there again at our next opportunity and you should too.
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at The Mansion, the feel and the look took us back to more elegant historical times, so if you like the early 1900s this is the place for you. Our host and owner Steve was wonderful and very helpful besides a really good cook, cheese omelette was fantastic. Thank you, Steve and a shout out to his wife she made incredible butterscotch cookies.
This is a remarkable old home in a charming neighborhood. The mansion is beautiful — we especially liked the breakfast nook, but the exterior shows a little wear and tear. Steve was a great host, who wasn't intrusive but was available to chat about the house and make recommendations for local restaurants when we wanted to talk. He made us a fine breakfast, too.
We were there visiting family for the weekend and decided to stay at this B&B verses staying at a regular hotel like the rest of the family visiting also. And wow was that the right choice, they made you feel right at home right away and clean is an under statement. Morning coffee tray at your door with fresh scones was great and and then down to formal Dinning room for fresh fruit and an elegant breakfast was spot on. Staying here made a normal family visit into a great weekend get away for my wife and myself. Thank you.
Sherry and Carolyn are great hosts, and make you feel very welcome and at home. My husband and I have stayed here several times due to it's proximity to our "Chicago" friends and family. We have been very happy.
My wife and I travel to the north west Chicago area every year for some Christmas shopping away from home. This year we were in this area 3 times to pick and then get a new kitty. We have usually stayed in one of the hotels around that area but for this trip we decided to find a B&B and we are so glad we did this. The area is perfect for our annual trip and the Victorian Rose Garden was and excellent choice. After making the reservation we received a call from Sherry asking if we were having any special event or if there was a special diet required. After getting our things settled in our room we went back downstairs where we sat at the kitchen table and chatted with Sherry and Carolyn while they fixed us some wonderful hot tea. The tea was very welcome since it was very cold outside that evening. Our room was very comfortable unlike most hotel sterile white rooms. The lovely house is from the late 1800's. Lovely woodwork and wall paper adorn the walls throughout and a beautiful grand piano in the parlor. Morning breakfast was served at the dinning room table and was absolutely delicious. Our first morning's breakfast was cinnamon pancakes with lemon sauce. It might sound strange but it was wonderful. Also bacon and a fresh fruit plate with coffee or tea. The second morning was eggs benedict with sausage links and of course a fresh fruit plate and coffee or tea. I can't say enough about how special Sherry and Carolyn made us feel while we were there. We had a wonderful time just sitting around the table talking in the mornings while they fixed our breakfast. There were to other ladies staying the first night we were there and it was very nice being able to talk with them that evening and over breakfast in the morning before they left. We have found our home away from home while we will be in this area from now on.
My wife and I come to the Chicago suburb area every fall for a shopping getaway from home in central Indiana. Our usual accommodations are the sterile hotels but this time we decided to try something different. We are SO GLAD we did. Sherry and Carolyn made us feel like royalty. This winter was unusual for us being we needed to be back in the Chicago area a second time and we decided to make Victorian Rose Garden our place to stay again. We greatly enjoyed having coffee in the morning at the kitchen table talking with Sherry and Carolyn about our lives and experiences while they were making breakfast for us. The main level of the house is beautifully decorated, the grand piano is wonderful (wish I knew how to play it), the great room has a wonderful homey feel to it. We stayed in Lady Teresa's room for both of our stays as it suits our needs perfectly. Sherry gave us a tour of the other rooms in the house on our first stay and I must say that the Presidential Chamber is stunning. We have decided that on our future trips to the Chicago area (usually November every year) we will make Victoria Rose Garden our place to call home. Thank you Sherry and Carolyn.. I took my granddaughter for an overnight fo her birthday. She kept telling me she felt like a princess. We were both treated like we were princesses! The table was set so elegant, the hostess was always making sure we had everything we needed, and the breakfast and baked goods were marvelous. I highly recommend going, especially if you need some TLC!
Excellent location. Great breakfast. Warm welcome by owners. Clean, spacious room, with good shower. Superb period piece decor. Had a warm, wonderful experience. Our 2nd stay. We will have more in the future.
Wonderful stay at The Mansion! Steve was a great host, great cook and excellent conversationalist. The room was gorgeous, the bed was very comfortable, and the entire area was quiet and peaceful. Highly recommended!
I cannot recommend higher the service, cleanliness, food, and hospitality we were treated to at this lovely B&B. We left feeling like we had made two great friends and were sorry to go. Situated just a block from downtown Algonquin, we walked to dinner. Do not miss the Italian Restaurant on the corner, fantastic! We'll be back!
Five of us rented the whole house for a reunion. It was a perfect place to get comfortable in a home like atmosphere. Sherry and Carolyn clearly care about the comfort and happiness of their guests. The breakfasts were outstanding and varied each day. Carolyn provided fresh scones and coffee outside our rooms in the early morning before a full breakfast. Fresh fruit every morning and beautifully presented. The house itself is very quiet. No noise from room to room or from the kitchen. There are at least three communal gathering places for quiet conversation. I would absolutely recommend Victorian Rose Garden.
The night we stayed, we were the only guests so we got Steve's full attention. He is a delightful host, a great cook and an even better spinner of stories. This amazing house from the gilded age has many to tell.
