We stayed here two nights in October. The room was well equipped, AC and TV but only 3 stations. It is really close to beaches. They have a kitchen that all of the guests can use. They put breakfast foods in the fridge for you to cook. We cooked bacon & eggs. They also have fruit in a bowl so we had fruit salad also. The outside area was nice with tables. The caretaker is very friendly and gives great tips. This is not a fancy place, but it you want to feel like you are living Hawaiian style then this is a good place for you.
Very close to National Volcano Park, drive 3 minutes. The Park ticket is valid for 7 days, so you can visit as much as you can. The cabin is very clean and cozy, very comfortable to stay for 2 people. The owner is very nice and friendly, he drove out to find us when we were lost to find his cabin. Enough information available and enough food for breakfast. Very good memory, my husband and I are extremely satisfied.
We stayed here last Dec 2015 and it was amazing, Wish we could have stayed longer. The location is perfect and the accommodations are very comfortable and the owners are super friendly with great recommendations for things to do, see and eat in Volcano! Can't wait to go back again someday!
My wife and I chose the Hiaku room for our honeymoon stay in Hawaii. I was not disappointed in the least! For a complete review see my post at : http://www.aaronmulderphotography.com/single-post/2016/10/12/at-the-craters-edge-hawaii
The Volcano Teapot Cottage exceeded our expectations for a romantic 30 year Anniversary Getaway. The host was warm and welcoming with good advice regarding the area and all it had to offer. The Cottage was cozy and comfortable and had any amenity one could ask for. The Teapot lived up to its name for an exceptional Continental Breakfast with numerous teas, coffees and accoutrements including fresh fruits and delicious fresh baked goods. If you need to eat gluten free, there are numerous choices offered. The owners were awesome hosts, the Nene were there to offer us a very welcoming Aloha and the grounds were so lush and beautiful. All and all, a very special place. Be sure to allow plenty of time to take in all of the beautiful nature that this area has to offer. Thank you Bill and Antionette for a wonderful stay!!
We celebrated our mom's 80th birthday at Shipman House. The property was beautiful, the staff friendly and Barb and Gary went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful. I was very special and my mom couldn't have been happier. Thanks to everyone at Shipman House.
Sitting in the rainforest just outside the national park is THE BEST single B&B. A one bedroom cottage with large overhangs which enable us to sit outside and listen to the rain and see the breathtaking flowers and foliage. The hosts thought of everything we needed for our stay: umbrellas, flashlights for walking at night at the volcano, and even bikes if wanted. The only and I mean only drawback is the lack of area dining options. If you wish to cook, their kitchen is fully equipped. It has both an indoor and outdoor shower with a beautiful hot tub area. I would go back in a heartbeat.
Aloha Crater Lodge is a wonderful place to stay. We had room #1 and loved the lush tropical jungle all around the house. Each morning, we greeted Bella the local bunny rabbit and relished the wonderful breakfast that Dan & Shannon always left for us (Lilikoi jelly, muffins, granola & oats, orange juice, yogurts, milk, chocolate coffee, bananas, rambutan, apples, papaya, and oranges). We both had never eaten more fruit in our lives! It was wonderful. (-: The Lodge was easy to find using phone GPS. Dan & Shannon also email you directions telling you exactly how to get there. The lodge itself is lovely stained wood with pretty paintings inside and waxy flowers outside. We would definitely stay there again.
We stayed at Crater Rim Cabin for two nights in September, 2016, while visiting Volcano National Park. This updated and renovated historic cabin is perfect on so many levels. It is extremely clean, king size very comfy bed, beautiful bathroom and the cabin is well appointed with EVERYTHING you could ever imagine that you would need. The kitchen is stocked with milk, butter, bread, several different cereals, coffee, fresh fruit, etc.! The yard is like a botanical garden. It is quiet, yet very close to the park (in fact it backs up to VNP). We only had the opportunity to meet Barry and he is a delightful host (I'm sure Jim is, as well)! Everything you need has already been thought of: extra power strips, shampoo, hair dryer, fans, bed warmers (it is nice and cool there!) and an easy to work gas stove for cool mornings. The only bad thing about staying here is that every other place you stay will never be able to measure up to this experience. We loved it! (There isn't actual "onsite" dining, except for your own kitchen, but it's outfitted to cook if you wanted to.)
This place is just that.. I don't want people to know about it, but can't be slefish.. We came over form Maui and if I could do over I would have just stayed here ONLY. The host Bill and his wife are like that Gods and kindness wanting your trip to always be memorable. This is a place that I could send my kids on there honeymoon, it has everything they have not for got anything at all. Romantic Is bar none and privacy you will have. This is a place that you will never forget. They even cut up fresh fruit and have it ready for you. They never bother you. If there was 10 stars to give I would give 11.. This is the place you want for sure. Stop at Costco and pick up your groceries and that way you will not have to go to town any more. Bill is very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and will tell you all the must sees you must do. DO NOT spend your money on any tours Bill will tell you were to go and you can save yourself money. Have Fun in the greatest place on earth. That is a fact...
This place is rated a 4.8 but should be rated a 10 plus 5 stars don't even do this place justice. It should be a 10. The owners of this place are wonderful FULL of knowledge of the surrounding area and Island .. No need for a tour Bill will tell you all the must sees. We jumped over form MAUI and if I could of done it again I would of just stayed here. If you are looking for seclusion romantic fun great wonderful this is the place .. The host will bring you breakfast fresh fruit every day all cut up. Both he and his wife are wonderful people and have not for got anything. Trust me you will fall in love with this place. Privacy wonderful place for a honeymoon celebrating an anniversary. Be ready for pure happiness this is the place. I call BS on the on suite Dining if you are going to a cottage that means you are planing on making your meals. Stop at Costco on your way up and stock up to make your meals... This place is all and outstanding score diamond in the rough. And I am a man that is giving this rating...
My husband and I stayed two nights here and it was fabulous! Barry & Jim make sure that they have thought of everything to make your stay perfect from a stocked kitchen for breakfast to a beautiful bathroom with everything you need already there! The king size bed is comfy and complete with a bed warmer (it's cool there)! But in case it's warm during the day, there are plenty of fans, too. They have included local information about restaurants and sites to visit, as well as small things such as plenty of power strips to recharge devices. The yard is like a botanical garden backed up to the VNP. The only problem staying here is that any other hotel or guest house will never measure up to this beautiful cabin! We could have stayed much longer.
This is a true gem! Spotless, well appointed and expertly decorated by the owners. They bring in wonderful pastries and all the fixings for you to cook up a great breakfast and answer any questions you might have. There were even binocs, flashlights and other things you would not expect to find. There are good travel books, articles, and brochures in the cabin as well, and a modern washer and dryer. The hot tub was very relaxing in the cool highlands of the Big Island. You are just minutes away from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and just half an hour from Hilo with its stores and restaurants. Highly recommended! This place is not cheap, thus the four stars for value, but well worth it.
Wonderful cozy cottage with fresh fruit and banana bread, Big Island coffee, granola, milk, etc for breakfast. Attractive grounds to wander and a hot tub to warm up in after a cool night viewing the volcanic glow at the nearby National Park.
I shouldn't review this because I want to keep it a secret. It is the best of the best. The hosts go beyond providing the most wonderful breakfast fixings. Everything. You want is at your fingertips and all first class. You can see their thoughtfulness and pride everywhere you look. My go to place in all the world.
Secluded, quiet, peaceful.everything first rate. The breakfast fixings are more than you can imagine, and packaged with such common sense and care. Delicious baked goods and fresh fruit are left every morning.
We stayed 2 nights with our 2 daughters. We felt immediately comfortable in this cozy cabin where every detail, every expectation has been anticipated by the owners. Kitchen well-equipped to cook. Peaceful site in a nice garden, close to the volcanic national park. The whole family loved its stay at this B&B.
Beautiful room, large bathroom with heated floor, working fireplace, fresh fruit and banana nut bread in the room. Very environmentally conscious. Close to Volcano National Park and both black and green sand beaches.
What an amazing cottage! It was so cozy and comfortable! Jim and Barry have worked very hard to make this a unique place. There was fresh fruit, eggs, milk, cereals and coffee all ready for our use when we got there. The bed was very comfortable and the gas fireplace a nice thing to run in the evening and mornings. The grounds were immaculate and the location was ideal. I hope to be back some day. Mahalo!!
Located right by the beach and backside of airport. Very quiet and pretty neighborhood, very short walk to a rocky beach and short walk to a swimming beach plus 5-10 minutes to other really nice beaches and snorkeling. Located very close to downtown and all major highways to reach volcanoes or waterfalls up the coast. New owner, but still Old Hawaii charm.
Me and my girlfriend spend 3 wonderful night in the Volcano Artist Cottage. We had a warm welcom and the cottage was cozy. It is really well located, 5 minutes from the Volcano park. Definitively a good place to stay for a couple.
