We enjoyed a 2 night stay at the Piney Hill Bed & Breakfast in the Rosebud Cottage. The location was very nice; not too far from town and not too close. The B&B was beautifully decorated for the fall and Halloween season and our cottage very comfy and charming. Our hosts were warm and friendly. The breakfast delivered to our room each morning was the best I'd ever had anywhere. We were treated to a snack each night and even had visits from their friendly kitties. Our stay was relaxing and we enjoyed the view from our back deck and the local area.

Our children gave us a 3 night stay at Piney Hill B&B for a Christmas Gift in 2014. We just returned from our stay and all we can do is give Wiley and Hank A+++++ and about 10 stars! They were gracious and accommodating hosts. Everything was clean and inviting. We made great use of the extensive library of DVD movies that is on hand. And the breakfast each morning...more then fit for royalty! A few more days of those and we would have had to roll out of the doorway when we left. We highly recommend this B&B for a great getaway for the weekend or more. Hank and Wiley will help you find your way around, provide lots of information, and just be great company. Thanks guys, for the great experience!

This was our first experience in a bed and breakfast so we weren't sure what to expect. The house and room was perfect with just about everything you can need with beautiful views of the mountains. The breakfast was some of the best breakfast food we have ever had! The owners were extremely helpful with what to do and eat in the area and gave great advice! I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend!!

We went to Piney Hill B&B looking to escape the stress of working at a very busy office. We loved the fact that it sits on a pristine location in rural Virginia. Both hosts master the art of being friendly and hospitable without ever taking away from the private moments we enjoy there. The atmosphere of our cottage was inviting, cozy and perfectly quiet. We relaxed from the moment we arrived, The unexpected presence of the friendly resident cats was an added plus. The breakfasts were delivered exactly at the time they were promised, to our door and they were delicious. We were also very close to the local attractions of Luray Caverns and Shenandoah National Park. And as a Scotch lover, I enjoyed a visit to the Copper Fox Distillery. also a short drive from there. All in all, we couldn't have done better anywhere else.

Peaceful, beautiful location coupled with well-appointed cottages, outstanding breakfasts and fantastic hosts make this place a top pick among B&B's. This was our 2nd trip and we will definitely be back again!

Wiley and Hank are fantastic hosts and the grounds are beautiful. Our room was very nice but small, next time I will spring for one of the cottage suites.

We have been going to Piney Hill for several years now, and we feel it is still the top B&B we have ever visited. Inn keepers are very accomodating and freindly. Almost like visiitng an old likeable family friends.

If I could rate Piney Hill as a "6", I would! My husband and I celebrated our first year anniversary at Piney Hill and we stayed for 2 nights in the private Rosebud Cottage. After a long day of travel, we pulled up to their beautiful property in the heart of the countryside in Virgina and knew we made the right choice. We fell in love with everything about Piney Hill and sensed that warm, southern hospitality immediately. The grounds are immaculate and pristine, with several places to sit, relax and take in the peaceful views. We were taken to the Rosebud Cottage, which had everything we needed inside for our home away from home, including a charming, comfortable atmosphere; outside there was a private porch where we ate our breakfasts and a private deck where we spent time winding down and taking in the views. After settling in, we took advantage of several local attractions and were given helpful recommendations based on our interests. The breakfasts were delicious works of art and we were also surprised with a couple of treats in the afternoon, which were also scrumtious. I commend Hank and Wiley for the obvious pride they have in their B&B as it showed in all aspects of our stay and it showed in the attention to detail you will find on the property. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!! I highly recommend a stay at Piney Hill and will be giving rave personal reviews to all my friends and family. Thank you Hank and Wiley for making our stay so special and memorable!

Really enjoyed the stay and being able to sit on that porch every morning to rest. Such a peaceful time. And the hosts were so helpful with figuring out trails and things to do.

I think the review for Piney Hill speak for themselves already, but the owners Hank & Wiley have one more VERY satisfied customer. It was a little pricey, but I feel that the location, atmosphere, treatment and food make this experience worth it. The rooms, while historical, cozy, and functional, are unexpectedly small. But I chalk this up to the house being more than 150 years old and I feel that it adds to its country charm. The food served by the innkeepers is simply outstanding and second to none. I stand by my assertion that it was the best breakfast I ever had. The B&B is a short distance from many beautiful attractions in Luray and Shenandoah National Park. Overall highly recommended.

This B&B was perfect. I was looking for a quiet place, where I could relax when I wanted and still be able to go out and enjoy the day. This place was exactly that. I will definitely be coming back here again and again.

My husband and I found ourselves a few free days and decided we'd like nothing more than to revisit Piney Hill! Fortunately Hank and Wiley were more than happy to welcome us! A visit to Piney Hill is like visiting old friends in a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere. The location is breathtaking, rooms cozy and comfy, breakfast amazing, and the hosts are two of the greatest people you'll ever meet. We left feeling rejuvenated and can't wait to return!

This was our first stay at Piney Hill as we revisited the area where we honeymooned forty years ago. Hank and Wiley, our Innkeepers greeted us promptly, wished us a Happy Anniversary and went right to work making us feel what we can claim to be the most comfortable among the various B&Bs we have visited in our retirement. The Inn is clean, the attention to detail is outstanding. Each morning we were served a gourmet caliber breakfast testifying to their culinary skills. We even picked up a copy of their cookbook which included recipes for our meals. We would not hesitate to revisit Piney Hill next time we are in the beautiful Shenandoah area and will certainly recommend it to our family and friends.

We both grew up in the Shenandoah countryside, so our trip to the Piney Hill B&B was a refreshing reminder of what we loved (and missed) about the Valley. The B&B is located about 30 minutes from the Shenandoah National Park and 10 minutes from downtown Luray - perfect for staging hiking adventures, visiting local restaurants or touring the Luray Caverns. Scenery at the lodge includes a view of the Blue Ridge Mountains and surrounding farmlands. The B&B itself was a cozy, restored farmhouse decorated in the spirit of the season. When welcomed to the lodge, we were provided with a brief history of each of the B&B’s rooms, which added some character to our stay. Amenities were comfortable and lent an atmosphere for relaxation. Nights were very quiet at the B&B and we were awakened to the sounds of nature every morning – something surely missed after living in the city for a while! The innkeepers, Hank and Wiley, were very hospitable and accommodating. Upon arrival, we were provided with information about popular local destinations, including hiking trails and dining spots. We were greeted each morning with a delicious homemade breakfast (which we liked so much that we got a copy of their recipe book). The innkeepers were warm and friendly while professional – they found good balance in interacting with us and respecting our privacy. We definitely plan to return in the near future!

The Hurley Byrd cottage was cozy and inviting. Because we had an itinerary, we weren't able to enjoy the property's scenery as much as we would have liked. Therefore, we definitely have to return!!!

Being back to the hustle & bustle of the DC area makes me wish for the calming nature of Piney Hill. We so enjoyed our stay and being the only guests, it somehow made us feel special & a bit spoiled. We loved the breakfasts & the surprise treats you left for us on our bed upon our return from sightseeing. The “Emma” room was cozy & charming & comfortable as was the rest of the house. We very much enjoyed the fireplace in the bedroom. We loved the views of the mountains & the cattle grazing about the farm across the way. The quiet atmosphere when one is surrounded by hills & mountains is very soothing indeed. The perfect getaway for a relaxing weekend. The porch & garden area surrounding Piney Hill is very pleasant and even though the weather was still a bit chilly, we did enjoy the rocking chairs for a bit while the menagerie of cats meandered about. We loved all the cats. We also enjoyed browsing through the gift barn. We hope to be able to visit again & stay to enjoy the different seasons yet to come.

As the threat of negative wind chills blanketed the airwaves, we ventured out to Luray from our urban haven. We had planned this weekend as a birthday and valentines getaway, and a little cold weather was not going to get in the way. We were greeted by warm hospitality and a wonderful toasty atmosphere. The Inn was decorated with an abundance of antiques, tastefully arranged with delicate lighting. Hank and Wiley took very good care of us and genuinely served our needs. Breakfast in the morning is served in the inn as one group seating as great opportunity to meet others staying there. The breakfast consisted of delicious cream cheese stuffed french toast with side of fruit. The second morning we had a savory sausage and egg quiche with a fresh apple crisp on the side. We enjoy bed and breakfast accommodations for the small scale attention and random opportunities for socialization. In the evening, we met and exchanged stories with fellow travelers in the cozy living room as we sipped hot tea and indulged on homemade mini cupcakes. We were treated to homemade red velvet cake for valentines day as we settled into our bedroom for the night. The accommodations were comfortable even with the 50 mph winds rushing past the old farmhouse. Although the fireplace/heater in the room was a bit weak, we enjoyed snuggling under the cozy quilts on the bed. We woke the second morning with beautiful sun shimmering off the snow and throughout the house, and sadly began our trip back to the city. Overall, we rate this place a very high "Excellent." It is easy to see why Piney Hill B&B gets all of the 5-star reviews. They have been in the business for 14 years and they know how to provide a relaxing and enjoyable experience for all.

The setting of this bed and breakfast is just what the doctor ordered- peaceful, scenic, bucolic, well appointed. The owners are very friendly and kind, as are their possee of outdoor kitties. Great recommendations for dinner location and activities; great area to explore fun shops and enjoy scenery. We would highly recommend this bed and breakfast. My husband found Piney Hill on line, read the reviews and they were accurate. Loved the gift shop on grounds too! Make your reservation now! We also enjoyed the in-room fireplace- it was nice. As was the wonderful cake left for a nighttime snack! Breakfasts were glorious!

There are not enough good things I can say about The Piney Hill B and B! The owners are wonderful, helpful and kind. The cottage we stayed in is beautifully decorated and has everything you need. Delicious breakfast delivered to your door every morning. The area is quiet, peaceful and a beautiful landscape. There's plenty to do in the area or a perfect place for a relaxing, "lay around" kind of getaway. We can't wait to go back!

In over 40 years of staying at B&Bs around the country we have never had such a great experience. Hank & Wiley spent a lot of time making their guests feel welcome and, most importantly, well informed about the local attractions and dining, with the all merits and demerits of each. Breakfast was wonderful. We'll be back!

WOW! Where do I start! Hank and Wiley are the best! Their hospitality is over the top! I should say Piney Hill is over the top as well! We felt right at home at Piney Hill. We stayed in the Rosebud cottage and just loved it! Super clean and very tastefully decorated. The breakfast....was AMAZING! It was delivered to us in a cute little picnic basket every morning and was delicious! The snacks were wonderful as well and were waiting for us when we got back for the day. Hank and Wiley are full of information and are eager to answer any questions you may have. When we arrived they went over the area and restaurants. So, if you are thinking about staying here...Think no more...Just do it and you won't regret it a bit! LOVED IT! We will definately be coming back!! They surely have a Lil' bit of heaven in Virginia!

We cannot say enough about our stay at Piney Hill. The Rosebud cttage was wonderful and cozy. Wiley and Hank were superb hosts. The breakfasts we had were fantastic. Our little friends the kitty cats especially Precious made our stay even better. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and we couldn't have asked for a better one. We highly recommend Piney Hill and we know we will be back. Ray & Yvonne

Imagine trying to plan a vacation with your husband and adult daughters. Not an easy task! Piney Hill was a hit with the whole family. We stayed for several days. We loved the rooms (our family was on the second floor), the food, and their cats. It was like staying in a farm house. Wiley and Hank treated us like part of their family. Everyone agreed it was one of the best vacations we have had. It was a great stay. Kathy and Family

Wiley and Hank were just brilliant. They made us lovely breakfasts, gave us great recommendations on where to go out for suppers, sorted out horse riding for us, and lent us maps for hiking in the mountains. The room was spotless, the setting wonderful, and we had such a great stay. I would recommend anyone to stay at Piney Hill, and should we return to the area we would definitely want to stay thee agin.

We spent a wonderful weekend at Piney Hill and already can't wait to go back. The rooms are beautiful and cozy, the views are breathtaking, and the ambiance is incredibly relaxing. Wiley and Hank are marvelous hosts--in addition to being incredibly nice and hospitable, they easily accommodated my gluten intolerance, so I could share in the delicious breakfasts and desserts. The gluten free cookies, French toast, and chocolate cake were incredible, as was the regular (glutinous) food. We cannot recommend the place highly enough.

What a wonderful stay with Wiley and Hank! Breakfasts were as advertised--delicious, ample and beautifully served. The hosts are most welcoming and friendly, and the front porch is a delightful place to relax in the afternoon or evening, or to listen to the quiet night sounds of the valley.

We have stayed at Piney Hill B & B numerous times over the past several years and we believe it to be the best B & B or country inn experience we have ever had. Our experience with these type establishments covers over 50 different places, from Maine to Hawaii. Hank and Wiley are the most gracious and accommodating hosts and we cannot say enough positive about them and their wonderful B & B. We would give Piney Hill our very highest recommendation.

My husband and I came here to celebrate our one year anniversary and LOVED our first B&B experience, it was soo cozy and relaxing! We stayed in the Hurley Byrd cottage. The cottage decor was so cute and very private, and the views from the porches were spectacular. We even got lucky with a beautiful full moon Friday night! Our favorite was of course the breakfast both mornings! We loved loved eating out on the porch, enjoying the view, and the food was delicious! We spent our day hiking at Shenandoah, having a picnic lunch out there, visiting a vineyard, and dinner out in town. We came back to our cabin to some surprise cake, which was so yummy! I loved that little personal touch. Definitely highly reccomend a stay at Piney Hill, and hope to myself again in the future :)

My wife and I recently stayed with Hank and Wiley to celebrate our 7th anniversary. We wanted simply a quiet weekend away and were overjoyed with what we received with at the Piney Hill B&B. We stayed in the Rosebud cottage which is perfectly set up with a screened in front porch and a seating area on the back deck. The front porch looks out at the house and the beautiful gardens that Hank and Wiley have developed. The back deck has a great view of the mountains and is perfect for watching the stars at night. The breakfast was 5 star, with great options every morning. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch reading and an overall relaxing weekend. Thanks Hank and Wiley

What a great way to spend a birthday celebration! The room was so clean and tidy and well designed, it was such a treat! And the food was delicious and so cute...breakfast comes in a picnic basket with everything you need to enjoy your meal on the deck, patio or table. We ate on the back deck with a great few of the mountains and wildlife. After breakfast before we headed out for our hike and canoe ride, we played with the cute kittens that call VA home. The innkeepers were very nice and helpful and made us feel at home. We even bought a few things from their gift shop so we could bring our fond memories home. We will definitely come back to Piney Hill B&B!

A very nice B&B near Luray in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. A very friendly couple of managers giving a service much over our expectations. The B&B is close to most points of interest in the area.

What a great find! The friendly, knowledgeable and helpful hosts made our stay simply delightful. Our tickets to the Luray Caverns were waiting for us upon arrival, and arrangements were already in place for a healthy and relaxing message for two. Our refrigerator was loaded with drinks, fruit and cheese. We were directed to great eateries. Do not miss the caverns-- great experience. And the breakfast were delicious and plentiful, filled with great conversation. This is why I prefer to stay at B & B's. Laurie and Larry

My husband & I celebrated our anniversary at Piney Hill B & B. We love the beauty of the Shenandoah Valley & the Blue Ridge mountains. We were not disappointed. There are beautiful mountain views from the inn in all directions. The innkeepers made us feel right at home & had good knowledge of the area. We enjoyed a glass of wine on the wrap around porch in the evening, watching the sunset. During the day we visited wineries & shopped in the some of the local shops. There are good restaurants within a short drive of Piney Hill. I loved our room. It was tastefully decorated & the bed was very comfortable. The inn is spotless! Breakfasts were creative, delicious & abundant. Our afternoon snack... also delicious. I would definitely like to return to Piney Hill B & B.

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend--our main intentions were to hike some trails of Shenandoah Valley. The house is gorgeous! We were also surprised that there were a bunch of wineries in the area. Along with the views of the house, it seemed like the "Napa Valley" of VA! After our hikes and visiting the cavern, we sat on the deck, porch, and hammock around various places of the house, drank our wine and enjoyed the view! It was a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of D.C. and driving the beltway everyday. We plan to go back even if it is just to sit around and drink more wine and enjoy the spectacular view!

The hosts were charming and accommodating. They were ready with helpful dinner suggestions, maps of the best hiking spots and hints about the best local wineries. The room was comfortable and more spacious than the pictures suggested. On the way out, we looked in one of the cottages and that will be the next choice! All of this is located on a property with a view of the mountains from every direction.

An overall nice stay though we could hear the people above us walking around, using the bathroom, talking, etc. Creaky floor above us was a bit bothersome. The breakfast was delicious but they can do without the bell ringing at 9am and then a knock on your door (I heard the bell). Most other places I've stayed offer breakfast between the hours of.... This place is more regimented and we prefer a bit more flexibility. The breakfast table is just one big table where we prefer separate 2 tops and Hank tends to hover over you while you're eating. That can be disconcerting when you want to share your meal with your significant other rather than the innkeeper. But priced right, well maintained and beautiful grounds.
We are sorry to hear you were not satisfied with your stay at Piney Hill. This 1800’s farmhouse is our home and creaky floors are just a natural part of a place this age. We do our best to provide a high quality bed and breakfast experience for our guests and 99% of them have nothing but positive comments about their stay. We thank you for your feedback.

I took my boyfriend to Piney Hill Bed & Breakfast for a quick weekend get away for his birthday and we both loved it. We were welcomed warmly (first by one of the adorable cats that live at Piney Hill, then by Wiley) and impressed at how beautiful the house was when we were checking in. As we were checking in, Wiley was thoughtful enough to pull me aside to tell me about the Horse Whisperer package I had bought so that it would be a surprise for my boyfriend (I highly recommend the package, we had a great time out on our private trail ride). When we got to our room (we stayed in the Rosebud Cottage) there was a plate of delicious homemade cookies waiting for us, which we enjoyed on the lovely little deck taking in the breath-taking view. The room was immaculate and had so many nice personal touches that made you feel comfortable and right at home. Breakfast-wise, Hank was very accommodating and made my breakfast lactose free as I had requested in my reservation. The variety of food that was offered was very tasty. Additionally, when we got back to the cottage in the late afternoon we received another yummy treat (two huge slices of chocolate cake), which we quickly devoured. Overall, this B & B is great for nature lovers and for anyone looking for a peaceful place to rest and relax. Hank and Wiley are fantastic innkeepers and really know how to make you feel welcome in their home. We hope to be back again soon!

From the moment we arrived and were greeted by our very gracious and charming hosts, Wiley and Hank, until we had to tear ourselves away, Piney Hill B & B was everything we had hoped for and then some. Not a detail had been overlooked, and the comfort level of our cottage and the surrounding scenery made it difficult to even want to venture out and explore the area! The breakfast delivered to our door each morning was always warm, delicious and filling, and I've tried tried to duplicate the recipes at home (theirs much better!) Warm hugs all around at check-out and even though we felt that twinge of sadness you get when leaving old friends, we quickly realized that we've actually made some new ones that we can't wait to visit again! Not going back is not an option!

We have been spending our anniversaries at Piney Hill for the last 10+ years, and it gets better every year. Additional details to the rooms and new renovations to the house are all very tasteful and appropriate. The service and food are always top notch. The innkeepers are perfect hosts -- talkative and friendly when warranted, but sensitive to a desire for privacy as well.

What a great stay! Wiley and Hank were great hosts and educated us on everything we needed to know about the area. The breakfast was amazing-- come hungry! The rooms are beautifully decorated and very cozy. If you're feeling energetic, there are great hikes and activities around town, Luray Caverns among them. If you're feeling lazy (or if the weather isn't cooperating), Hank and Wiley have a huge DVD collection, and all rooms have satellite TV. Overall, this is probably the best B&B we've every visited. Would make a great weekend away from DC or any other city in the region.

There is good reason that this place is among the top ten in the COUNTRY. The hosts are amazing in their knowledge of the area, graciousness, care and attention to details, and in creating some of the most sumptuous breakfasts that I have ever had. This is THE place to stay for a trip to beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Go for a romantic weekend. Go soon. Really. I mean it...why are you still reading this...go get a reservation...NOW! :)

Hank and Wylie are the best hosts possible! Every detail was taken care of. The room we had was exceptionally clean and the whole house tastefully decorated. The breakfast was the best we had on our trip. The shop in the barn was specially opened for us. What a treasure trove. We didn't follow the directions given to us so we got lost on the way. But all part if the travel adventure.

The cottage is wonderfully designed, and positioned for unobstructed mountain views in multiple directions, including an amazing sunset view. From making dinner reservations, scheduling a couples massage in our cottage, to delivering delicious snacks and breakfasts, to recommending local activities, Hank and Wiley handled every detail to make our weekend relaxing and memorable. We will definitely be back!

This is by far the most exceptional B and B we have ever visited. Wiley & Hank went above and beyond to make our anniversary weekend special. Hurley Byrd cottage was beautifully decorated and impeccably clean. Each morning our breakfast arrived in a picnic basket on the porch. It was a nice change of pace to get to eat a special breakfast in pajamas with a view of rolling fields and the occasional cow roaming the pasture behind the cottage. What makes this B and B truly special are the hosts. Hank and Wiley are welcoming and laid back, and have lots of suggestions on everything from hikes in Shenandoah to local restaurants. They made our (delicious) breakfasts vegan on request and even left vegan desserts for us on the table inside the cottage. When we came home late one evening we found they had turned on the cottage light for us. It is this attention to detail that really made the stay special. Staying in the cottage was delightful and definitely worth the extra cost. We can not wait to come back and visit again!

We had such a memorable time at the Piney Hills B&B and would recommend it to everyone.

We stayed at the Emma Rufner room or as my husband and I like to call it the yellow room. The room is comfortable and very clean. The Inn keepers Hank and Wiley were fantastic and so knowledgable of the area. We loved our chats with them and they made us feel so much at home. The food was so good and yummy. Hank and Wiley left no detail unchecked. We will be back to visit again for sure.

Breakfast is served each morning with a smile and great conversation by the inn keepers. The meal is one that can last all day if you so wish. All are home made recipes by one of the keepers.

This was our 3rd time staying at Piney Hill, once again it was perfect!

We had a wonderful stay at Piney Hill. The breakfasts were incredible, and our room was beautiful. I have only limited experience when it comes to staying at B&B, but this was by far the best one. There is easy access to the Shenandoah and Luray restaurants. The innkeepers were very knowledgeable about the area too, and gave us plenty of suggestions. We hope to come back very soon.

My husband and I took a quick two-day trip and stayed at the B&B. We loved the place and its beautiful vistas. It's delightful and lives up to the expectations we had with the other great reviews this place has received. We were in the quiet period for the B&B and were the only ones staying in the main house so I can't speak to the ambiance when the place is full (might be more of a busy, crammed feeling). Our time was quiet peaceful and utterly pleasant and we had great conversations with the proprietor Hank. He was friendly and helpful and knew well where to direct guests for a enjoyable trip. I would recommend highly as the place to stay in Luray! Oh and the breakfasts were delicious and so was a surprise dessert treat after a hike in the Shenandoah National Park!

Hank & Wiley were the best! I highly recommend Piney Hill to anyone looking for that down home felling like your at home service. We stayed in the Hurley Byrd Cottage and had everything we could possibly need and more. I can't say enough great things about the cottage and the amazing food that came out of their kitchen!!! I didn't want to leave! The personal one on one info about restaurants and local places to visit was great! I can't wait to go back! Thanks for everything guys! Heather & Sandy

Hank & Wiley took great care of us, from comfy, well apportioned rooms w/ lots of charm to the absolutely phenomenal breakfasts. They made activity & dining arrangements for us - even moving our horseback riding earlier because it was going to rain. They were super sweet & thought of everything - even little extras making our anniversary weekend that much more special. We can't wait to go back!

We recently stayed 5 nights at the Piney Hill Bed & Breakfast, which is situated a short drive from the town of Luray, Virginia. Set in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley this country style, well equipped and spacious guest house has views of the Skyline Drive area within the Shenandoah National Park and is close to the town of Luray with its many restaurants and impressive underground caverns. This makes it an excellent place to stay for a get away from it all break, although we included a day trip to the hurly burly world of Washington DC. The hosts Hank and Wiley are just great and have created and make Piney Hill a very special and unique place to stay with a homely atmosphere, excellent food and friendly hospitality. In short the Piney Hill B&B is truly a diamond set in the jewel of the Shenandoah Valley.

Hank and Wiley have done a fantastic job with the B&B. We had a great weekend, great food, close to many different activites and information/coupons for local attractions. We are already planning our next excursion to Piney Hill B&B!

My husband and I are so glad we chose Piney Hill for our trip to Luray Caverns. It was absolutely adorable. We stayed in the Mark Ruffner Room, it was cozy and delightfully blue. Hank and Wiley are wonderful hosts and their breakfasts are delicious (peach french toast and fresh watermelon! yum!). We enjoyed having breakfast with the other guests and talking about our planned activities with them and Hank and Wiley. Hank had some great suggestions about what to do and where to eat. They also have adorable cottages right off the house if you want more privacy. The place is surrounded by farms and has stunning views of mountains from the perfectly placed adirondack chairs and hammock (great for an afternoon nap). The only thing we regret was forgetting our swim suits for the Jacuzzi outback! Next time we'll bring our suits and a bottle of champagne to enjoy. If you're looking for a place to stay when you visit Luray or just a tranquil getaway in the country, this is the place to go!

My husband and I were looking for a spot to break up our road trip from Florida to Pennsylvania and New Jersey and luckily happened upon this idyllic B & B. The beautiful pastoral setting was just what we were looking for. The innkeepers, Wiley and Hank could not have been more attentive or helpful and made us feel like welcome members of an extended family. Their cooking/baking skills were outstanding and their practical tips for exploring the area of Luray and the Shenandoah National Park helped us make the most of our short visit to the area. I would definitely recommend this B&B as a 10 out of 10. J. Phaneuf; Leonia,NJ

Everything was wonderful. Our hostess', breakfast (wish hubby would fix me peach french toast) and the cottage. Would definitely book there again when in the area.

Hank and Wiley have absolutely found their calling! From the very second we knocked on the door my husband and I felt like family!! The smell, the decorations, their welcoming personalities... We just felt like it was home. They took time to show us around the house and our cabin, followed by multiple recommendations of fun things to do in town during our stay. They made sure we had every single thing we needed in the cabin to feel comfortable and snug during our weekend. BREAKFAST....WOWZERS!!! It was delish! Felt like we were Royalty! Hank/Wiley would deliver it to our porch in a cute picnic basket FULL of beautifully prepared breakfast! Stuffed french toast, yogurt parfait, baked cinnamon apples, sausage quiche...etc, etc! It was fresh, it was homemade, and it was PERFECT! They have really thought of it all! We're in love with the area. The fresh air, farms, greenery... It's a nice change from the DC Metro scene. 5 STARS!

We were only able to get away for a few days in August. Fortunately we spent them at this bed and breakfast. We stayed in the newest cottage and it was beautiful. There was a screened in porch, a nice sitting/bedroom area and a large bathroom. The place was so peaceful yet close by the town for dining and the National Park for hiking. Wiley and Hank were knowledgeable about things to do in the area and very helpful. The breakfasts were absolutely fantastic. It was a wonderfully restful long weekend and we would definitely stay here again.

Great place to stay. Clean, great location, views. Just what you want in a B&B. The innkeepers were the best and so was the breakfast!! Very helpful and close to Shenandoah river, skyline drive, monticello and luray caverns, and they will tell you about so much more you'll wish you'd booked a longer stay.

Took a trip with the girlfriend and was looking for a romantic getaway. This was perfect! Wiley and Hank are wonderful hosts, we felt comfortable right away and were very happy with our choice as soon as we checked in. The house is great, room clean, and breakfast was amazing! Stuffed French toast, homemade sticky buns, crust-less quiche... Wow. Quick dip in the jacuzzi after hiking old rag was great, as was coffee in the rockers on the porch. We also did the package with caverns and canoeing, and it all worked perfectly and we had a great time. We will be back next time we venture to Virginia!

Piney Hill is a magical location with wonderful owners. My friend and I had time for only a one night stay, but is is definitely a location to stay for several days. Hank was outstanding in his welcome, friendliness and general helpfulness. Although other reviews I read before my stay made is seem that the location was far outside of Luray, it really is a very short drive into town. I look forward to staying a Piney Hill again!

We were looking for a place to celebrate our anniversary. We like the personal attention and detail often found with bed and breakfasts, but the privacy from hotel/ motels. We were happy to find the best of both at Piney Hill Bed and Breakfast. Rated high (number 1) on trip advisor for a reason. We chose to stay in a cottage vs a bedroom in the main house. They have 2 cottages on the campus. We loved every minute. The cottage was cozy, clean, decorated beautifully, and comfortable. We had privacy and comfort. They hosts provided a huge deluxe breakfast, and snacks in the cottage. Dropped off in a basket to allow us privacy. The grounds are very peaceful and landscaped. Your neighbors are steer and the mountains. The best thing about Luray Va, is this oasis.
5 on August 21, 2013
Our stay was wonderful! We were greeted warmly, shown around, told about the area restaurants and allowed to relax. Breakfasts were superb each day of our stay. We're already talking about how we'd like to go back again!

Piney Hill is a fantastic place to stay , the house is full of character as are the inn keepers. They paid great attention to those little details that make all the difference. Breakfasts were an occasion with delicious combinations of fruits ,home baking and savouries- that french toast was fantastic, as was the fruit cocktail sorbet. As for the jacuzzi in the garden with views of the Blue rRdge mountains who could wish for more?

We stayed two nights at Piney Hill B&B to celebrate my birthday. The house is charming and located beautifully just outside Luray. Innkeepers Hank and Wiley could not have been more friendly and helpful. They know they have a treasure and love to share it with their guests. Our room, Emma, was small, but there was plenty of room for our stuff. A very comfortable bed. Breakfast, which was quite delicious (I bought their cook book), was at a communal table, which we personally like very much, and the other guests were interesting. The B&B is well located for drives, hikes, boating and Hank & Wiley can make good recommendations, and reservations if necessary. We highly recommend this Piney Hill treasure!

Not a single bad thing to say about this gem in the Shenandoah Valley! Hank and Wiley, having run this business for 13 years, still made us feel like it was in their early years! Their enthusiasm about their beautiful home and their amazing surroundings was shared each morning we stayed while chatting with them about our plans for the day. They practically customized our days - knowing what our hiking and kayaking skill levels were. If I lived closer, I just might be hanging out with them more often! A wonderful experience!

I'm not an avid B&Ber, in fact this was my first time but I have to say this was a fantastic option. We researched a dozen or so B&Bs before deciding on this one and feel that it was definitely the best choice. The private cottage that we stayed in was very well appointed with everything we needed for our stay and then some. The decor was perfect, contemporary but still quaint. The proprietors, Hank and Wiley are truly artists their service was top notch with no detail being overlooked. We will definitely return for future visits!

The views are spectacular, the food was delicious, and we certainly were able to relax! We enjoyed the hot tub late at night underneath the stars. Only thing that we wish we could change was the bathroom for our room was down the hall which added an awkwardness that we hadn't anticipated.
4.6 on June 28, 2013
Hank and Wiley know their stuff. As proprietors of Piney Hill they have created a facility that meets their very high standards and preferences. Although we were only there for a single night, our stay was extremely comfortable. We met and shared travel tips with a couple from the UK who were leaving after three nights. They found the time to relax and enjoy the gorgeous countryside at Piney Hill. Highly recommended and the breakfast was a major treat.

My husband and I picked this B&B because it was the reported to be the best on the Blue Ridge Wine Whiskey Loop. The ratings were well deserved. The most memorable aspect is the team of the most friendly innkeepers you could ever meet! Not to mention the ample and delicious food!
4.6 on June 16, 2013
The cottage was lovely, everything was very clean. Everything you could possibly need was anticipated. Wonderful cookies and cake in the afternoons left in our cottage. Bowls of candy scattered around and even a refrigerator complete with waters and soda. Microwave popcorn and crackers also if you were hungry while watching one of Wiley and Hank's many, many DVDs available in the main house.

We first visited Piney Hill in October 2012. It was a wedding gift so we used it as a mini honeymoon a month after our wedding. We really enjoyed the views and all that there is to do at the bed & breakfast and surrounding areas. Wiley and Hank are the best hosts and their hospitality is like none other. They make you feel welcome and at home, never awkward or pushy. The couples massages were amazing and it's so nice to look out at the mountain views while relaxing in the jacuzzi. The Rosebud Cottage was great and we got to tour the Hurley Byrd Cottage while we were there because they had just finished construction. When we left there in October, we were already planning our next visit. My husband decided he wanted to spend his birthday weekend at Piney Hill and we knew we wanted to try out the Hurley Byrd. We stayed in the Hurley Byrd in May 2013. My husband thought it was awesome that they left him a birthday card in the cottage, it was a nice personal touch. There is so much to do in a weekend in the Luray/Shenandoah area. All of the recommendations given by Wiley and Hank were great. They let us know when there were festivals and events going on around town and gave us the scoop on the restaurants in the area. The breakfast was phenomenal - especially the apple crisp oatmeal (sorry, Hank, I can't remember the real name). We had pumpkin french toast in the fall and then peach french toast in the spring. I can't decide which one I liked better, and I usually don't like peaches. We had homemade dessert in our room every day, it was a nice treat. The gift shop is very cute, we bought a few souvenirs to take home. Being only a 2 hour drive from home is perfect because it's not too far but just far enough to get away for a long weekend. We can't wait to go back in the fall when the leaves are changing colors. I would definitely recommend Piney Hill to anyone who wants a nice relaxing weekend with awesome hospitality and great views.
4.8 on June 07, 2013
Views were breathtaking, house was quaint, beds were comfortable, food was delicious, and the two owners are incredibly sweet. All of the BnBs in the area are a bit pricey for my liking, but out of the options, I would definitely recommend staying at Piney HIll.

Piney Hill is a wonderful place to stay. I stayed for nine days and was just sorry it wasn't for longer. It is a lovely house, beautifully furnished in a sublime location. The breakfasts are nothing less than a delight - creative and exquisitely prepared. However the main factor that makes Piney Hill such a delight are the hosts, Wiley and Hank. They spare nothing to make your stay as enjoyable as possible and you come away (reluctantly) believing you have been staying with friends. Superb.
5 on May 12, 2013
This an outstanding B & B in a beautiful location run by two exceptional hosts. Piney Hill is the perfect location to explore the Shenandoah Valley. The accommodation is first rate and beautifully furnished with the best breakfasts you could possibly imagine. Wiley and Hank could not be more welcoming, friendly and helpful. You will feel that you are not staying at a B & B, you are staying with friends. I cannot recommend Piney hill too highly. Exceptional.

Stayed at Piney Hill for a much needed 2-night solo retreat. Hank and Wiley were great hosts and very welcoming. Breakfasts were outstanding. Nice country style breakfast but not at all heavy. They also were great guides for hiking plans.
5 on April 08, 2013
From the moment we got there until the moment we left, we felt as if we were the center of Wiley and Hank's attention. They provided excellent directions, insight, and review of the area. They cooked delicious hearty breakfasts and scrumptious desserts. The rooms were clean and the atmosphere was homey. The Rosebud Cottage is a great bang for your buck. It includes a king size bed, kitchenette, full bath, private room separate from house, and access to the hot tub. Overall, our stay was outstanding and the memories we made were priceless. Much love to Wiley and Hank! From Aaron and Amber

The historical home was beautiful and the food outstanding! Next time we wil ride the Harley! Thanks guys!

Hank and Wiley run a first class B&B where attention to detail and their friendliness make you feel both right at home and a special guest. My wife and I (experienced B&Bers) thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay there and give this B&B our highest recommendation. The decor is country charm and the B&B is located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley in an agricultural area. The breakfast's are gourmet and the kitchen is often filled with the best aromas. A real treat!

Hank and Wiley were wonderful hosts. The house was beautifully decorated, inviting, and relaxing. The hot tub under the stars was a plus with a beautiful view of the mountains surrounding us. They have thought of every detail. They arranged for a couples massage right there at the site. The breakfasts were delicious. They went out of their way to make sure we had a great weekend. We will go back.

My fiancee and I were looking for somewhere different to go. He had never been to Luray Caverns before and so we started looking in the area. We came across Piney Hill B&B and they happened to have just one room vacant for the weekend we were going. This was going to also be our first weekend as an engaged couple. We had a lot of preconceived notions about staying at a B&B and we were very nervous. When we got there our preconceived notions went away almost immediately! The next morning when we sat down for the most amazing breakfast I've ever had we knew we had been very wrong about the B&B scene or at least this one! We had the most perfect weekend imaginable and a lot of that had to do with Wiley and Hank. They had amazing suggestions for what to do for the weekend and they sent out an email in advance to us with these. They went above and beyond in every instance. They are both truly amazing people and amazing hosts! If only they could do our wedding!!

For most, Hank and Wiley, done an awesome job making sure my stay with my partner went very well. They were very polite, respectful, and friendly. They took note of food allergies or special diets. Exceeded expectations with making sure one of them was avaliable when my partner and I missed our initial check-in time. They were very resourceful on recommendations for places to eat and other local attractions (i.e. wineries, directions, etc). Breakfast was home-made and great. They work as a team, and their commitment to operating the Piney Hill B&B shows. My partner and I spent our first Valentines Day there... I'm glad I made the right choice. We are looking forward to another trip to the Luray area, and would absolutely stay at Piney Hill B&B again.

Our weekend stay at Piney Hill B&B was so lovely. Hank and Wiley are welcoming, entertaining hosts who are also great cooks. They also give great directions to help you get around the area. We felt so at home the whole weekend--it was hard to leave! I highly recommend this location.

Piney Hill is such a great 'home away from home' that we've been going back at least once or twice a year for over 10 years. Wiley and Hank make everyone feel completely at ease. They are a goldmine of information about things to do and places to visit. The daily breakfasts are always delicious, and are hearty enough to keep you going right through the afternoon! The top-notch ratings you see online here and on other review sites are no accident: the hosts make sure you have exactly the getaway visit you are hoping for.

I've stayed at a number of bed and breakfasts and often feel a little bit like the hosts are nervous that I am going to break something or actually feel at home in the their home. Hank and Wiley immediately made us feel welcome and were two of the most gracious hosts that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. They clearly wanted to share the great place they put together and worked hard to make us feel welcomed and appreciated. We stayed at the Hurley Byrd Cabin, and it was great. Hank and Wiley asked us for feedback as we were leaving; they wanted to know if they had left anything out or if the room could be improved in any way (it couldn't). Some of the great qualities: -The rooms were clean and well laid out. -There was a great fire-place like thing near the bed that was very romantic. -Great baked goods each afternoon. -A fridge that was stocked with drinks for us to enjoy -friendly cats that were happy to be scratched (but would leave you alone if you were not interested). -great sunrise and sunset views and gorgeous views of the surrounding hills -Stars! Lots of them at night. -Two of the most delicious breakfasts that I have every had. --All in all, I would HIGHLY recommend this place.
5 on October 24, 2012
This sweet little B&B is tucked away on a little farming road in Luray. The inn-keepers are very hospitable and really go out of their way to inform you of all of the great things to do locally, as well as provide you with maps and tips. They are down-to-earth and know how to run a B&B. Their breakfasts and extra goodies were delicious! I would definitely recommend them to friends and family and plan to stay there again in the future--especially in the fall with all of the beautiful scenery. The farms located adjacent to their property really add to the country experience as you can literally walk right up to the fence and view cows and pigs leisurely grazing in the sun. Wonderful experience all around.

During our most recent visit last week, Eric and I were trying to remember how long we have been enjoying our visits to Piney Hill and we couldn't; it's been at least 6 years. But every time we return, we say what we said upon entering the first time: "It feels like we've come home!" Thanks, Wiley and Hank, for your hospitality and your friendship. See you again in May.

Wiley and Hank are fantastic hosts. They have this B&B thing down to a science - their business should be used as the perfect example of how to run a B&B. Everything about our stay was perfect - the food, the setting, the room, the amount of interaction with guests, the knowledge they impart. We absolutely felt at home in a house we had never seen before in our lives. That says it all, you will feel right at home here and it's a perfect spot to relax and call home base while you explore the area. Thanks Hank and Wiley! We will be back! Scott and Alexis

When we stayed at Piney Hill we did get all we were supposed to get. I forgot silly me changed the package. I had to come and fix that just to say that this place is wonderful and the perfect pick for a getaway. You will not be disappointed!!!!!!

This Bed & Breakfast was absolutely one of the best B&B's I have visited yet. The breakfast was awesome, creative (I had to buy their cookbook) and very filling. I love that the house was wrapped in a mountain view. No matter where you looked you seen mountains. It is very peaceful and quiet, one of the best things is sitting in the jacuzzi while looking at a beautiful sunset disappearing behind the mountains and sharing a glass of wine with your sweety. We ordered the Honey Moon Package which came with two tickets to the Luray Caverns and a two hour horse ride for two; along with a dessert, some sparkling cider and mugs. The cider and mugs are the only thing we did not get but outside of that everything else was excellent. I advise you if you do go to stick to the map they gave you as far as restaurants. We really enjoyed "Uncle Bucks" & "Joe's Steakhouse" outside of the management not even acknowledging our table in the restaurant but I will say it didn't help that we were the only people of color in the place. But the service was good and the food was also good. Other than that we had a very nice time!!!

We have stayed at a lot of B & Bs and always enjoyed our stays. However, this was by far our favorite. We loved our room, our hosts were warm, friendly and funny! Wiley and Hank took care of all our reservations for restaurants and events and made suggestions for places to see and dine. The breakfasts were incredible. Everything was so good I asked about a cookbook and it just so happens they published one for the 10 yr. anniversary of the B & B, so I grabbed one up. Very yummy and very easy! We would like to make another trip to VA and Piney Hill is at the top of our list of places to visit.

Piney Hill is amazing! My husband and I stayed in the Rosebud Cottage for 2 nights. The owners are so nice and accomodating. Our room was very clean with beautiful mountain views. The gourmet breakfast that was delivered to our cottage each morning was delicious. There is a hot tub with a view of the mountains and pretty gardens on the property as well. I can't wait to go back!

We stayed in the newly created Hurley Byrd Cottage this past weekend for a total of 3 nights and 4 days. Hank and Wiley outdid themselves with the attention to detail and level of hospitality. From the moment we arrived to the day we left, they both took every opportunity to make us feel welcome and comfortable. To begin, I want to discuss the cottage. We were the second guests to ever stay in the building. It has recently been designed, decorated, painted and loved. It is apparent that Hank and Wiley love what they do, because the cottage was resplendent. I constantly was taking pictures of little details because of its charm and whimsy: the cute lamp in the bathroom, the hand-stitched artwork by the front door, the antique bureau...The list continues. The food was equally impressive. Food is always appreciated. But great food is admired. That is to say, that the breakfasts were delightful and completely consumed. Each morning a basket was thoughtfully placed at our front door. A slight rap at the door indicated that a hot meal awaited us. It was like opening a present, anticipating what lucky meal we would be eating. From blueberry stuffed French toast to a sausage frittata--we were amazed. As a gourmand, I took complete pleasure in savoring every bite. Lastly I want to point out the Inn itself offered many great features. We awoke every morning to mist on the horizon and cows out to pasture. A hot-tub was available to guests (which we gladly partook after a long hike). Additionally Hank and Wiley have gone crazy for movies. With at least 200 selections, plus HBO and satellite TV, it was easy to cozy up at night with a blanket. Finally, they have a small store that offers all sorts of country decor and vintage finds. It literally felt like walking into a Pottery Barn. We left with a small hand-stitched "no place like home" art piece. A nice reminder for the great time we had.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Piney Hill Bed and Breakfast. We stayed in the Rosebud Cottage and the cottage was lovely and relaxing. The hosts, Hank and Wiley, were friendly and personable and gave great recommednations to local restaurants. We had hiked during the day so we especially loved the jacuzzi. The view is beautiful. We loved the picnic basket breakfast we received in the morning. Delicious!

Then accommodations were great, the location, scenery and environment was great. I heartily recommend that this is the place to stay.

When I walk into a B&B I hope to get the feeling of being embraced and welcomed-Piney Hill did that! Of course much of this has to do with the hosts. Wiley & Hank have created a little piece of heaven at Piney Hill. Someone who owns a newly established B&B asked me if there was anything my husband & I didn't like about Piney Hill-couldn't think of one single thing. We will stay at this wonderful place again when we visit the area.

Fun hosts, great breakfast and country location very nice. Chocolate raspberry brownies delivered to our room rates an A+++. Would absolutely stay there again if passing through the area !

The hosts took great care of us, and as I had a race on Sunday morning, they got up early and prepared coffee, muffins, juice, etc. so I could have something to eat before the race. The scenery from the back yard is amazing. Very relaxing atmosphere. We'll definitely go back!

My boyfriend and I escaped DC for a romantic weekend getaway and Piney Hill B&B was the perfect oasis we needed. Wiley and Hank were warm and gracious hosts. The food was incredible and we’re so glad they have a cookbook so we could take the interesting recipes home with us. Wiley and Hank also know everyone in town so they were able to help us plan and reserve our activities such as horseback riding and a boat cruise. We also loved the hot tub out on the patio under the stars, the afternoon snacks, and the movie collection. Thank you for such a relaxing weekend – we can’t wait to go back!

We stayed at the Rosebud Cottage for three nights and it was perfect! Hank and Wiley were beyond hospitable, the cottage was charming, and breakfasts were delicious. The Luray area is beautiful, and the mountain views from the B&B were gorgeous... We will definitely be back!

We just returned from 3 wonderful days at Piney Hill B&B. Hank and Wiley are the best innkeepers. They ensured we had a wonderful experience while making us feel like friends and not simply guests. The B&B is eloquently decorated and our room was perfect. They pay great attention to detail and our room had many small conveniences well beyond a hotel. The morning breakfasts were both delicious and healthy. We enjoyed the couples massage they arranged for us and relaxing in there hot tub. The location is great and allowed us to hike in Shenandoah National Park or shop at the many antique stores.

So often when I stay at a B&B I look around and think, “Yeah, I can see what they were going for here”, but at Piney Hill they’ve done it! Even before you enter the actual B&B, the grounds are exquisitely maintained without looking theme park perfect. There are several inviting sitting areas tucked away in various flora and fauna, a comfortable hammock under a gorgeous Black Walnut Tree, and a hot tub with views of pastures as far as the eye can see. Once inside you’re enveloped in a classy country décor that urges you to look around and appreciate every piece that you can tell was carefully selected for the Inn. Hank and Wiley made us feel like they were genuinely happy to have us and were clear, concise and friendly about policies, what was available on the grounds and in town, and had a beautiful balance of warmth and professionalism. We stayed in the Walter Rogers room which was immaculately clean, and believe me, I like to peek at nooks and crannies most would overlook. Everything in our room and private bath worked perfectly, including the remote control fireplace and the mini fridge which had a variety of FREE beverages. My boyfriend and I took advantage of a couples massage, the masseuses came to the B&B and we were lead to the ‘Smoke House’ which was roomy and calming, the perfect setting to relax and have some body therapy. The ladies were friendly, professional and gave wonderful massages. And breakfast! Hank and Wiley served up scrumptious peach french toast, a maple sausage patty, perfectly ripe fresh fruit and a tangy and sweet yogurt-berry parfait. It was, as I came to expect with everything here, heavenly. We can't wait to return and experience the serene, comfortable and uplifting haven Hank and Wily have created! Reese Williams

Wiley and Hank went over the top with hospitality and made you feel right at home. Breakfasts were fantastic. Loved the quick wit and humor of the boys! Awesome to come to a relaxing porch after along day of touring the area. Can't thank you enough for your recommendations for food and handy maps.
5 on June 19, 2012
The place was very clean and quiet in a great setting. It was a few miles outide of Luray but the drive was worth it for a little peace and quiet. The breakfast was outstanding. My wife and I watched a spectacular evening thunderstorm descend on the Shenandoah mountains from the front porch rocking chairs that we had to ourselves. Our hosts were very pleasant.

We were trying to decided between two B&B's in Luray, Piney Hill and Once Upon a Mountain. Reading the review on Trip Advisor convinced me to stay at Piney Hill and I wasn't disappointed!! The breakfasts were fabulous and Hank and Wiley couldn't do enough to make our stay a great one - they were helpful with everything! They really pay attention to the details and their "farmhouse" is truly charming. You will enjoy it!

Our stay featured great variety and quality at breakfast, engaging hosts and for exploring the area the location is fantastic. The outdoor hot tub was perfect for an evening soak. We will definitely go back. Only minor downside was our room was a bit small - next time we'll probably go for one of the other rooms or the cottage.

My partner and I recently spent a long week at the Piney Hill Bed and Breakfast in Luray, VA with Hank and Wiley. We are former innkeepers and have very high expectations of the bed and breakfast we visit. We are usually very critical and have left many places disappointed. Our visit to Piney Hill was absolutely wonderful. Upon our arrival, we were greeted at the door by Hank and were given a true Southern welcome. Hank offered us a tour of the B & B and reviewed local restaurants and events. This B & B is quaint, immaculate and the breakfasts were the best we have ever had. Each morning, we would sit on the porch or the lawn area and have our morning coffee. At 9:00AM the farm bell would beckon us to the dining table were place cards marked our seating area. Hank and Wiley kept us entertained during the meal and were helpful preparing suggestions and directions for our day's adventure. After a long day of hiking and sight seeing, we returned to find homemade chocolate cake waiting for us in our room. We relaxed in the hot tub with a glass of wine and took in the view of the mountains. We highly recommend this place. The other three couples staying at Piney Hill were all former guest. We think one couple was on their 14th visit! This speaks for itself. As former innkeepers, we know the importance of returning guests. We plan to be part of this group and are already checking out our fall calendar. We left completely IMPRESSED! 5 stars plus! If in the Shenandoah area, seriously consider staying at Piney Hill with Hank and Wiley. You will not be disappointed! Sam and Tom

Piney Hill B&B is THE gem of a place to stay in Luray. It's a lovely country-home property, and the proprietors are wonderful hosts. They do an incredible job of making their guests feel welcome with their warmth and attention to detail. And, on a scale of 1-10, their wonderful breakfasts rate an easy (and very tasty) "11". I definitely look forward to our next visit!
5 on April 27, 2012
We thought the food was awesome! And the owners were very friendly and helpful.
5 on April 26, 2012
The breakfasts (orange and blueberry French toast, sage sausage puff!) were delicious! Not to mention the afternoon dessert left in our room for us after a full day of hiking in Sheandoah NP. The Emma Ruffner room was also very clean and decorated so well, and sitting on the front porch looking out over the fields was also very relaxing -- the lilac bushes, azaleas, and pale yellow irises were very pleasant to look at as well. Hank and Wiley are both very friendly and welcoming too -- we really enjoyed our visit and definitely plan to return.
5 on April 19, 2012
I highly recommend Piney Hill. We stayed in the Rosebud cottage, their private cottage on the property. It had a frig, microwave, a nice small screen porched, and a beatiful and romantic porch out back where you can sit and see the stars. They bring by breakfast at 7:45 and it was terrific. The cottage normally requires 2 day stay. They have rooms in the main house but I didn't look at them as really wanted to stay in the separate cottage as was a romantic trip. I also highly recommend horse back riding - they can recommend the place we went - terrific. They went through all the local restaurants and had their menus, offered to make us reservations. Have a hot tub (closes at 10pm) - We'll be going back for sure...

My husband and I were thrilled with every aspect of this beautiful home. The rooms were comfortable, had small refridgerators with drinks, unexpected surprises were left once a day, breakfasts were unbelievable, and the grounds and setting were perfect!! We enjoyed walks, the garden and rocking chairs, the view, and the jacuzzi at night was heaven. The hosts were beyond expectation in their recommendations, hospitality, and accomodations were cheerful made for our motorcycle, late night out with friends, and opportunity to shop in their little gift shop off hours. You will enjoy the best of the area while staying in style.

Wiley and Hank are the best at what they do. They provide a place of relaxation and tranquility. They have a beautiful view and accommodations. I was able to try one of the new breakfast items. AWESOME. The gift shop is filled with wonderful items for everyone. I am repeat guest so I am a repeat offender of relaxation and fun. This place is a rare gem.

We have stayed at Piney Hill many times and always plan to return! The house and accommodations are fantastic! The breakfasts are incredible - you won't leave the table hungry. The inn keepers have definitely perfected the art of taking care of their guests!!! We thoroughly enjoy hiking, site seeing and wine tasting....and then relaxing on the porch! It is definitely a place you want to stay if visiting the Shenandoah Valley!!!

Walking into the Piney Hill B&B from the cold one gets the feeling that you are in a warm and welcoming home. It doesn't take long for Hank and Wiley to appear, and THEN you know that you're home! They both are so warm and amicable. Our room (the Walter Rogers room) was warm and comfortable with a spacious bathroom. From the two windows there are views of the surrounding hills and fields. The gourmet breakfasts were delicious. There was plenty of food to carry you through to dinner! Speaking of dinner, there are plenty of restaurants to go to in downtown Luray (a 15 minute drive from Piney Hill). Hank and Wiley willingly provide you with a run down of the restaurants in town with the latest reviews of each. I have stayed in several B&Bs over the years. This surely has to rank at the top. We look forward to our next visit.

Once you visit Piney Hill and experience the charm and hospitality that Wiley and Hank offer, you will be ruined for life. nothing else will ever compare. As an experienced traveler, we've come to know what to expect and what to roll with. Here, we experienced something new--having our expectations exceeded! The food was exceptional--and better than what we could describe with words. We're sort of foodies, and we were impressed. and stuffed! It was more than we could consume, with a great variety, and pleasing visually, and to our palates. We loved the Rosebud Cottage setting, the privacy it afforded us on our honeymoon (Very Important). the cottage is in such great shape--clean, comfortable, perfect for settling in with one of hundreds of movies they offer, or a good book, or for whatever pleases you. We enjoyed the surrounding sights (Flea Market antiques and the Caverns) as well, but the cottage itself was the gem of this trip. We're making plans to return. Doesn't everyone want a slice of heaven while on earth?? If so, visit Rosebud Cottage.

It will be difficult to find a more relaxing visit anywhere. Hank and Wiley make you feel like close family. They are sincerely helpful at suggesting places to go and things to do - and they made us feel like their home is our home. Rooms are clean, comfortable and well equipped. Breakfasts were superb - tasty, attractive, and artfully prepared. Accommodated special diets. We went as guests; but left as family. A wonderful retreat for couples.

They made us feel like we were home, away from home. They also totally rocked by addressing my dietary restrictions and adjusting their menu to suit my needs. Food and service were absolutely amazing! You can tell these men take such pride in their establishment. Their passion shines through them and radiates from everyone that stays with them.

It was definitely a pleasure to stay at Piney Hill. Very quiet and relaxing. Hank and Wiley made us feel at home, were super nice, and provided a wealth of knowledge about restaurants in town, things to do, and their favorite hiking trails in Shenandoah. Fantastic breakfast (you'll be able to skip lunch)! I would definitely stay there again and would highly recommend it to others.

Cozy inn nestled in the Shenodoah valley, we had an outstanding stay with the warm hospitality of Hank and Wiley. Food was superb, service and attention to detail were spot on. It is no wonder why this band b is hard to book and so popular. Gift shop on site with wonderful items was an added surprise.

This was the second time my wife and I stayed at Piney Hill and both times were fantastic. Hank and Wiley are simply the best hosts from anywhere I've stayed. They are like staying with old friends because they are so nice a pay attention to small details to make you stay enjoyable and relaxing. We'll be back...hopefully sooner than later.

Like the title says, BE WARNED!! This place will cause an addiction like no other. For starters, Hank and Wiley make you feel like family from the first moment you arrive. Once you are settled into your IMMACULATE/BEAUTIFUL room, they go over local dining and attractions. Immediately you feel more at ease about the what and where of the area. Spending our 1st Anniversary at Piney Hill could have not been more relaxing, more intimate, nor more perfect...period. Hank and Wiley are so attentive to the "little things", that on our bed upon arrival was an anniversary card surrounded by rose petals! The property itself is attractive, very well maintained, and the views are simply breath taking. Piney Hill is "home" literally, you just have that feeling from the moment you step in the door. Just a little teaser about the breakfast: You will A) not be hungry afterward, and B) anticipate with excitement about the next one! We seriously could sit here and continue to rave about Piney Hill, Hank and Wiley......but you will just have to go and find out for yourself!! You will NOT in any way, shape or form be disappointed. We WILL be back.....Thank you both so much!!!!!

We booked for last year during leaf season and were sad to cancel because of other obligations, so we had high hopes for this year's visit. They were all met. Hank and Wiley were gracious hosts with a great knowledge of the area. The trees were in full color; the weather was mild; the house was comfortable; and the food was great. Altogether a very nice visit. It got even better when we went for a hike to Dark Hollow Falls off of Sky Line Drive and got engaged. I credit Piney Hill for being the proper home base and backdrop for a fantastic weekend. We've already scheduled next year's trip!

Piney Hill is just far enough outside the town of Luray to make you feel like you're really off the grid, and at the same time, you're close enough to town for a quick decision to go for dinner, movies, or shopping. You'll feel right at home with Wiley and Hank. The main house and the cottage are immaculately clean, breakfasts are home-made and will definitely give you the energy you'll want for all the hiking, riding, and antiquing in the area. We've been staying there for 10 years now, and plan to keep going back as often as we can!

We truly enjoyed our visit to Piney Hill. In fact before leaving we made a reservation for our next visit. The service and cleanliness go beyond words and the breakfasts served were out of this world. In fact, we are currently suffering from basket withdrawal (the basket in which our breakfasts were delivered to our door). The innkeepers know the area and attractions well. It made it easy for us to incorporate our favorite activities into our stay. I would highly recommend Piney Hill for anyone looking to get away from it all and truly relax in the Shenandoah Valley. We are already counting down the days to our next visit!

If you are ever going to visit Luray and/or want to relax for a few days, I would highly recommend the Rosebud Cottage--it was so relaxing. Oh, don't forget about the jacuzzi under the night. We plan to go back when we get the chance. Thanks, Hank and Wiley.

My husband and I couldn't have made a better choice. We were only staying for the night as we were heading south to a wedding, but Hank & Wiley made us feel right at home. I love antiques and I was in heaven just checking everything out. The place has rustic country charm in every nook and cranny. They gave us a run-down of the restaurants in Luray. If we were able to stay longer we would have had a list of things to do. My husband had asked about a sweets shop in Luray and that he had a hankering for something chocolate. Hank mentioned that they had just made a chocolate cake and would have it in our room when we returned from dinner. What a pleasant surprise! The breakfast we had the following morning was scrumptious. I can't say enough about this wonderful place. We plan to go again and I would recommend Piney Hill B&B highly. Valerie Schwartz

My boyfriend and I stayed with Hank and Wiley for the weekend to celebrate his birthday and our 1-year anniversary. It was the perfect romantic weekend. The house and scenery are beautiful, the house is quiet and even though there were two other couples there, we could easily be alone when we wanted. Breakfast both days was amazing and provided lots of energy for the activities ahead. We went kayaking down the Shenendoah for a beautiful 8-mile trek, and rested with a bottle of wine in the hot tub that evening. Best weekend in a long time.

I wanted to do something special for my wife and after some minor research I discovered this gem, Piney Hill Bed & Breakfast. When we arrived we were greeted by the Innkeepers, Hank and Wiley and were made to feel as if we were at home. My wife and I stayed in the Rosebud Cottage which offers breathtaking views and the comfort of home. The landscaping is beautiful and maintained by meticulous hands. Breakfast was plentiful and freshly made, as are the deserts that tend to make you feel spoiled, but in a good way! The views at night are just as stimulating as they are during the day. There is also a hot tub outside that provides you with relaxation anytime during the day or underneath the moonlit sky. Piney Hill Bed & Breakfast is an amazing place and the wonderful innkeepers go the extra mile to make your stay a rememberable one. This was our first time here but definitely not the last. I think that we've found our second home!

This inn sets a very high standard! We spent three nights over the 4th of July weekend and loved everything about it - the countryside setting, the beautifully decorated home, the little touches of comfort and convenience throughout. We purposely came back to the inn late one afternoon just to enjoy the surroundings, sit on the porch and take in the view before departing again for the eveing. Incredible breakfasts, delicious and plentiful, so plan on skipping lunch! And what a nice surprise to find freshly baked butter pecan cake waiting for us after a long day playing tourist. The best part of all - the Innkeepers, Hank and Wiley! They are wonderfully gracious, kind and helpful hosts who made us feel at home right away. When we left, we felt we were leaving good friends. In summary, Piney Hill helped make our holiday getaway to Luray truly memorable.

My husband and I were just looking for a relaxing little getaway before I had a surgery that was going to limit my activities for several months in recuperation. I'd wanted to revisit Luray, VA to update childhood memories of more than 30 years. The Piney Hill was one of the top rated and reviewed B&B's and the online photos looked charming and inviting so we booked our stay. Upon arrival we were greeted by Hank and Wiley welcomed to our room and all the history and features of this beautiful B&B. We were given great information on the area and where to go to grab a light late dinner before retiring for the evening. The breakfasts and snacks are perfection as well as the eye for details in making you feel right at home. We enjoyed a stroll on the grounds after a trip to the Caverns and being spectacle to the neighboring farm's cattle. If you want beautiful views, personable and knowledgeable Innskeepers, charming/relaxing surroundings and great food then we would definitely recommend the Piney Hill B&B in Luray, Va.!

This was our first time staying at a B&B, and it was such a great experience. Hank and Wiley are awesome and truly do make you feel right at home. Their breakfasts were seriously to die for. Sooo scrumptious! They are also very knowledgeable about the area and gave us wonderful suggestions on places to eat and hiking trails. I must say, their advice was always spot on. The horseback riding and river boat tours we booked through them were fantastic, too. Our whole stay was just pretty much perfect. It is such a beautiful area, and the hospitality from Hank and Wiley make it that much better! I definitely hope to return!

We have stayed at Piney Hill yearly for the past 5 years. Every stay is better than the last. We always try to get the Rosebud Cottage as it provides a fabulous sunset view of the mountains from its private back patio. The breakfasts are far better than any resturant we have ever visited. We are already looking forward to our next restful visit.

Simple words cannot describe the excellent experience we had at Piney Hill B&B Rosebud Cottage. The minute we arrived Hank and Wiley made us feel like we were friends forever. Their attention to detail is absolutely astounding. The grounds, home, cottage and views are beautiful and decorated perfectly with classy country charm! These guys are the best hosts anyone could ask for the world over. They were extremely attentive and even readjusted our itineraries for us so that we could make the best of the sunshine during a stay that could have been ruined by rainy weather. The food was plentiful and absolutely out of this world! Their knowledge of the area is amazing and their recommendations for restaurants, things to do and places to see are top notch. Everyone we talked to in the area knew of their excellent reputation and are highly respected. You cannot miss this experience and the Rosebud Cottage affords an excellent romantic getaway for newlyweds, couples celebrating anniversaries (like us our 25th) or just plain rekindling relationships. As the title states, this is without a doubt the best place to stay in the area and likely the whole East Coast!

This was our first B&B experience and we loved it. Hank and Wiley are terrific hosts and the breakfast was delicious. Great views and cute rooms. We say we never go to the same place twice but we are already considering going back!

Hank and Wiley are wonderfully welcoming and friendly hosts and have beautifully restored the house. You eat a tasty and generous breakfast each morning at a communal table with the other guests, and everyone swaps tales about what they did the day before. There are some great hikes to be done in the nearby mountains, and the Luray caverns are well worth a visit. Or you can just on the porch and read and enjoy the view. We'll be back!

Wiley and Hank are the consummate Innkeepers!! They attend to EVERY detail. The house is immaculate and charming, Hank & Wiley are so thoughtful and make you feel so welcome ... you can't help but have the time of your life. Luray is a great town with lots of relaxing things to do and Piney Hill offers the best breakfast and night's rest, plus a fabulous hot tub!! And the view ... the whole experience is heaven on earth. We hated to leave and returning home to reality was down right depressing. We HIGHLY recommend Piney Hill B&B!!!!!!

We were skeptical about the rating of "One of the top B&Bs in the United States". Surely it was nothing more than "in-house fluff" or "ballot stuffing by friends of the owners". No such thing -- our stay was utterly sublime from the moment we checked in to the moment we left. Located in a gorgeous rural area a few miles from Luray, the B&B is a world apart from all the bustle of civilization. Nevertheless, it is decorated in whimsical yet elegant style. Cookies are available at all hours; breakfast is tastefully done and the bed was the best we have ever slept in. But it is the two inn-keepers who make this place extraordinary. From the overview of area attractions to the sensitive questioning of personal interests (so that more personal suggestions could be made to enhance our stay in the area) to a genuine warmth and openness in hosting us, we basked in the ambiance of Piney Hill. Being experienced travellers who have been all of the world, it is wonderful to be so surprised and touched. Any praise of Piney Hill would be an understatement. Go and enjoy!! We will certainly be back!

the innkeepers truly seemed to enjoy thier guests and their vocation as providers of Southern hospitality. While we intended initially to just relax and - hopefully - enjoy some warmer weather we found many activities in the area besides the famous Luray Caverns. Antiquing in Front Royal, history and an interesting pedestrian mall in Winchester. Also many breathtaking photos were taken from the observation areas along Skyline drive. We would gladly return and perhaps rent the cabin, take a good book, sit on the porch and enjoy the farmland and the company of the cows and friendly outdoor cats.

The innkeepers are terrific. They really care about their guests and making everyone comfortable. The breakfasts are great! Piney Hill is out in the country -- and definitely worth the drive. It's close enough to Luray, the caverns, wineries, Skyline Drive, etc., but still removed from everything and very relaxing.

We were looking for a peaceful weekend getaway in the mountains and we found it at Piney Hill! There are panoramic views of the mountains and they are short distance (5 minutes) from the restaurants in town. Far enough to get the country feel but not so far that is daunting for city folk. Breakfasts were on time, hot (and frozen!) and the innkeepers, Hank & Wiley, were full of local secrets and tips on food & attractions. We had a wonderful experience!

My partner surprised me with a 50th birthday weekend away and I can honestly say that I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the Piney Hill Bed and Breakfast. We were immediately greeted by Hank and Wiley (Innkeepers) and I immediately felt like I have known them for years. The Bed and Breakfast was immaculate and was also perfectly decorated with collectables and antiques. We stayed in the Rose Bud Cottage and it felt like home. From the extra little touches provided by Hank and Wiley to sitting on the back porch "talking" to the cows, I quickly realized that I would become a repeat guest. The queen size bed was so comfortable that I didn't want to leave its warmth. Our breakfasts were mouth watering! We soon found ourselves looking forward to having a breakfast picnic basket delivered and anticipated the knock on the door each morning. Oh and the snacks! Mmmmmmm, Best sticky buns I have ever tasted! Hank and Wiley were more than willing to provide us with dining and recreation suggestions and went above the norm and even made dinner reservations for us. I will certainly recommend Piney Hill Bed and Breakfast (Rose Bud Cottage) to all of my friends.

My girlfriend and I ventured to Piney Hill BnB for a combined birthday and valentines day weekend celebration. We found ourselves extremely lucky to find Piney Hill as our first experience at a BnB. I have traveled to 20+ countries around the world, both 3rd world and modernized, and have yet to enjoy my stay anywhere as much as I did here. Hank and Wiley are the most gracious and accommodating of hosts. They maintain Piney Hill with the utmost attention to detail; from the simple comforts they provided up arrival in our bedroom, to the concierge like service of helping make our plans for the weekend, to the amazing breakfast food they serve each day. I'm typically not one to repeat travel to the same place 2x because I like change and new experiences, however both my girlfriend and I have agreed Piney Hill will be on our list to repeat later this year.

Wonderful getaway location to just unwind and relax. Hank & Wiley are the best hosts and the breakfasts are out of this world. The best food hands down in Luray. Wish we could have had all our meals at the B&B. Will be visiting again, someday, but wish it could be more often. A little bit country and a whole lot of home.

Hank and Wiley are the ideal hosts and they make you feel like home when you are here. The value for your money is incredible, as excellent breakfasts and great service are the norm. Make Piney Hill your top consideration when visiting Luray :D

This is a wonderful place to stay if you want comfort, charm, and total relaxation. Our innkeepers were delightful and helpful. They made us feel welcome and at ease from the moment of our arrival. The breakfasts were spectacular!! A place to visit again and again.

We will absolutely be back, and will recommend this B&B to any and all of our friends. Everything that the reviews say about the hospitality, the delicious food, the cute house and rooms, is very true. We loved meeting Hank and Wiley, who just love running their B&B; when people find something that they love, they usually do it well. We absolutely came as strangers and left as friends -- and with some wonderful recipes to try, too!!

My husband and my brother and his wife and I treated ourselves to a three day vacation at the Piney Bed and Breakfast, Columbus Day weekend of 2010. The four of us are booked for the same rooms that weekend in 2011. The views from Piney Hill B&B of the mountains are breathtaking and the chairs in the side yard found us reading our favorite books while enjoying the view. My brother has a high power job in DC and his wife also has a busy professional life. They need the break. My husband is a semi retired engineer in the Richmond, Virginia area and I am a retired schoolteacher. What a perfect spot for a family reunion! We plan to make it a yearly gathering spot. If they are good perhaps one day we will invite a daughter or a son to join us. For now it is our and your piece of heaven on earth.

Piney Hill Bed and Breakfast is a gem in the heart of the Shenandoah. We arrived later in the evening on a Friday and Wiley and Hank answered the door with open arms. They are the so friendly and welcoming. Their house is a beautifully restored farmhouse. It really felt like we were staying with old friends. The Walter Rogers room is so cute with its own gas fireplace. And the food...oh the food! It really starts your day off right. And Wiley and Hank know everything about things to do in the area. You will never be bored no matter when you go. We cannot wait to go back in the spring. The bar has been set really high. It gets an A++++++. Thanks Wiley, Hank and Bean!

Wiley and Hank were wonderful. They went above and beyond to make us feel at home. From the warm greeting, to the detailed map of the city, to the delicious meals and fun conversation, they were exceptional. The caverns were awe inspiring, the boat ride was beautiful and the National Park was astonishing. This was our 1st anniversary and we plan on going back next year!

There are views from all the rooms, and gardens on all sides of the house. It's a long way out in the country, especially at night, but that's part of it's charm. The food is fab, and the hosts are helpful and delightful. Highly recommended. Lucy and Frank

Piney Hill is all they say it is. Located in a beautiful country setting, with views of the mountains out our bedroom window, Piney Hill has all the charm of a turn of the century country home. The breakfasts were fabulous and kept us full most of the day! And our inn keepers went out of their way to ensure we had fun on our one day of not so nice weather. Turned out, it was one of the best days of our 10 day trip! The map drawn for our adventure and recommended stops along the way (pottery, flea market, country store, covered bridge, restaurant for lunch) was so appreciated. Would not hesitate to recommend Piney Hill to anyone coming to the Luray/Skyline Drive area.

Hank and Wiley are outstanding hosts. They made us very welome and the B&B was very comfortable. Out away from Luray and in the peace and quiet. Breakfast were delicious and had more that enough food to last all day on the morning breakfast. Those not familiar with country roads may want to have a GPS to help navigate to the site. Roads are all paved so you won't have a problem that way. Not many restaurant choices in Luray and being from NM, I was dissaponted with the Rancho Viejo. Their Red and Green chili sauces are horrible. Luray Caves in definetly a site to see. Was much more than I though it would be.

We stayed here as a relaxing wrap-up for our visit to DC. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and very personal without being too over-bearing. Hank and Wiley invite you into their Inn like you are their oldest and dearest friends, and will astonish you with their appropriate-sized, delicious breakfasts! They bend over backwards to make your time with them as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. We enjoyed our time with them immensely!

From the initial email contact inquiring what type of hot beverage in the morning if any we would prefer to the wonderful hugs saying good-bye, you could tell we were experiencing one of the best B&B in the country. The rooms were charming, the breakfast sensational, the conceirge service was so helpful but I brought back something special. ...a renew sense of caring and an enthusiasm for life to share with others. It must be osmosis..got it from the owners who truly cared that we have a good time.

Piney Hill B&B had a lot of great reviews, but I have stayed in many B&Bs all over the east coast, so I booked with high expectations. Piney Hill came through. Although I have stayed at more elegant B&B's, PH rates right up there because of one overriding factor, the inn keepers. Wiley and Hank (yes, you will feel free to be on a first name basis right away) are so gracious, helpful, funny, talkative and just downright great guys, that you might find yourself missing them when you leave. If not them, then definitely the fabulous breakfasts. You feel like the reverse is also true, because they may send an email to you hoping we had a good time and wishing you well on the rest of your vacation, details of which they remember and mention. You might be tempted to say, oh, just good marketing, but after you meet these guys, you will know it is genuine. Did I mention the fabulous breakfasts? The setting is out in the country (have faith, you will get there), but the mountain and pastorial views are beautiful. A wonderful place to stay a night or two. Oh yeah, the breakfasts are fabulous. They seem to have many repeat customers and I think we will be one of them.

What a great B&B!!! Not only are the rooms beautiful, the entire home is gorgeous. Prior to checking in Wiley sent us a welcome email offering information on a wonderful evening cruise on the Shenandoah, along with detailed directions. Immediately we were comfortable when Hank greeted us at the door and gave us the history of the property. The Inn arranged tickets to Luray Caverns for us, had snacks waiting, and gave us lots of info on the area and suggestions for places to eat. They have a great little gift barn on site with the cutest (and reasonably priced) items -- I did my Christmas shopping! Delicious breakfast and good company. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer! Do yourself a favor and book Piney Hill and enjoy all that the area has to offer.

Our first trip to the Shenandoah Valley area included our first stay at a bed and breakfast. Piney Hill was rated number 1 in the area by Trip Advisor so we decided to make that our base of operations for a 4-night stay touring the area. We couldn't have been more pleased. Hank and Wiley were the perfect hosts, greeted us warmly on our arrival and immediately made us feel at home. The guys purchased the old farmhouse in 2000 and did a magnificent job modernizing the place. We stayed in the Emma Ruffner Rodgers room on the second floor. It was, as advertised, a bright, cheery room with a very comfortable queen bed and very nice private bathroom with large shower. The room was cozy and comfortable, though a clothes closet would have been appreciated. The only storage area was a two-drawer dresser and a row of coat hooks, so we mainly lived out of our suitcase. The room had modern amentities- cable TV, all-season fireplace, and a/c. Breakfasts were unbelievable- enough to keep us satisfied until late in the afternoon. There was no thought of doing lunch- we were too stuffed. The guys were also great about discussing the area with us and recommending restaurants and attractions- even printing out driving directions for us. The area is gorgeous- farms with cattle, pigs and sheep all around- we even woke to the sound of "mooing" one morning! Evidently they do quite a business with repeat customers and it's easy to see why. We will definitely return when in the area in the future.

We came back for a 2nd time because we enjoyed the first time so much a couple years ago. The view is wonderful, the atmosphere is fun, and we appreciate the great hospitality. Wiley & Hank anticipated our needs better than any other place we've stayed and we were glad we could stay with them another time.

My husband an I spent our five-year anniversary at Piney Hill. We stayed two nights, but I wish we could have stayed longer. The B&B is situated in a very beautiful setting, just a few miles outside of downtown Luray. The room was well furnished and very clean, and our bathroom had all the necessities and toiletries you need when you travel. The innkeepers are friendly and helpful with suggestions for dinner and area attractions. The best part of the experience was the breakfast. Both days, were were served a plentiful breakfast that was amongst the best I have ever had. I'm not a "breakfast" person in general, but I thoroughly enjoyed the meals we were served. Snacks and sodas are also provided throughout the day. We appreciated that after an afternoon of nearby wine-tasting. With only a two hour drive from the DC area, this is a fantastic and easy getaway.

We where very happy with our stay at Piney Hill B&B. Hank and Willie where great hosts and very informative. They gave us very good suggestions on the best places to go and went out of there way to make us feel comfortable. We couldn't ask for more. We are planning to return in the near future.

I could not have imagined a more perfect setting to plan and celebrate my engagement than at Piney Hill. Everything from the location with the picturesque scenery, to the amazing breakfasts and turn down desserts made this a top-notch B&B. We weren't just staying at a business, it felt more like we were visiting very accommodating friends. Wiley and Hank were great hosts and made our weekend stay most enjoyable. If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing weekend or a romantic get-a-way in the Shenandoah Valley, this is the place to stay. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

We really enjoyed our getaway at the Piney Hill Bed & Breakfast. It was our first B&B experience so we weren't sure what to expect but now we are hooked. Hank & Wiley were gracious hosts and very helpful with providing dining recommendations, suggestions of things to do, and were just super friendly. We stayed in the cottage and breakfast was delivered to our door each morning. It was delicious and we looked forward to it each time. We look forward to visiting Piney Hill B&B again!

I'd never stayed at a bed and breakfast before venturing here with my girlfriend to celebrate her birthday. Everything was wonderful - Wiley and Hank are the perfect hosts, and they made sure we had an excellent time. The B&B is a charming place that's nestled in the hills and pastures. There are cows! A barn! A big porch with rocking chairs! Our room - the Emma Ruffner Rogers room - was neat and clean and very cozy. There's even an all-weather fireplace. The food is what people rave about on here, and they're right - both breakfasts we had were delicious, and so huge neither of us could finish them. Which is a shame, because they were so good! Great coffee, too. There is a lot outdoor space, too - a nice back yard with a hot tub and a few chairs and places to sit and enjoy the country quiet. All in all, a wonderful experience. I'm sure we'll be back!

My husband and I just came back for our 18th anniversay all I can say is "so looking forward to going back" This place was far beyond my expectations. Wiley and Hank welcomed us with opened arms & big smiles. The house was very warm, comfortable, private and peaceful. Breakfast was ontime and can I say deliciousx100. And to top it off we made 2 wonderful friends. Thanks Wiley & Hank. Carlton & Cynthia

This was our first true bed and breakfast experience .... and we were not disappointed. Already we are planning a return trip this summer for a longer stay. Piney Hill is located outside of Luray, down a country road, surrounded by cow pastures. The house and premises were beautiful and well maintained. We stayed at the Mark Ruffner suite upstairs. The bed in my room was so comfortable, I didn't even miss my bed back home. Wiley and Hank were great hosts - both were helpful and friendly. We felt at home there and got some great advice about the local restaurants (we loved the Artisan's Grille downtown). Breakfast was awesome! What a way to start the day. I'm looking forward to trying out some of the recipes at home. The snack at night was a surprising treat as well. If you're looking for a relaxing stay out in the country, this place is for you. And don't worry about being bored....there's a lot to see and do in the Luray area.

I would recommend this bed and breakfast to anybody looking to stay near Shenandoah National Park. We were heading to the park for hiking and a drive down Skyline Drive. This is the place to stay. It is located within a few miles from the park and also near other activities, which we did as well, canoeing and the Luray Caverns...both of which were spectacular! The bed and breakfast itself it situated amongst gorgeous mountains and farmland. The innkeepers, Hank and Wiley, have not left any details untouched. Everything is taken care of so meticulously and with careful detail. The rooms are immaculate. They are extremely helpful in helping to figure out where to go, what to do, and how to do it. In addition, the breakfasts are delicious and presented with great care and creativity. I would highly recommend this bed and breakfast to anybody looking to stay in the Shenandoah area.

Piney Hill was a perfect weekend in a delightful setting. Hank and Wiley are exceptionally gracious hosts; warm and welcoming. Not only is their magnificent spot rural and peaceful, but they have invested tremendous effort and love into making their Bed and Breakfast magical. The house itself is charming, interesting and immaculately restored and improved, with several inviting outdoor seating areas in which to read and admire the countryside. It is a short drive to Shenandoah National Park and the Skyline Drive, as well as Luray Caverns and many good local restaurants and wineries. Piney Hill is idyllic however, because from where they are you see and hear only farms, meadows and mountains. Silent at night. Breakfast was copious, delicious and imaginative- and when we returned from our hike there were two slices of fresh homemade pound cake waiting on a tray in our room. Our weekend at Piney Hill will give us memories to dream about for a long time to come.

Piney Hill was exactly what we were looking for in a weekend getaway. Hank and Wiley were amazing hosts, providing us with tourist information, making us reservations, and presenting beautiful and delicious breakfasts! Every breakfast was not only delicious but a fun time for socializing. Hank, Wiley, the other guests...I felt like we had been friends for years. At the same time though, we never felt "smothered" or had a lack of privacy. The hot tub was the highlight for us. Despite the cold weather, getting in the hot tub under the stars...amazing! We also enjoyed the various activities in the area...wine tasting, the caverns, Skyline Drive...we never had a lack of things to do. The only con in the area...the restaurants were not exceptional...not bad, but not exceptional. The condition of the rooms at Piney Hill are immaculate! Clean, cozy, comfortable. Hank and Wiley really pay attention to detail. A charming house with lots of fun history.

My wife and I booked this B&B online without a referral, with no real idea of what to expect. We were completely blown away by the innkeepers, Hank and Wiley. Their hospitality, friendly demeanors, wit and charm helped make this an unforgettable experience. They go out of their way to get to know their guests and personalize their stay. To top it off, their homemade breakfast every morning was better than any meal we ate dining out in Luray.

We were looking for an anniversary weekend getaway within three hours from Baltimore. I looked at over 40 B&B's on-line before we booked Piney Hill! I've stayed in others and this is by far the best. We stayed in the Walter Roger's room, it was very romantic, clean, and comfortable and the decor was beautiful. Hank and Wiley are excellent hosts, they thought of everything! Hank maid the most beautiful silk flower arrangement for our anniversary and put silk flower petals on the bed too! They had treats upon our arrival and sweats on our bed when we came back to the room at night. Not to mention the breakfast was to die for. We came as guests, but we left as friends! We are already planning a trip back in the summer on our motorcycles!

We were looking for a weekend getaway within two hours of DC -- I had never even heard of Luray, but booked Piney Hill just based on the Trip Adviser reviews. It was a perfect retreat! We stayed in the Rosebud Cottage, which gave us complete privacy, yet with all of the B&B amenities -- from a delicious breakfast, to homemade cookies waiting for us when we got back from a day of exploring the town. Hank and Wiley were so friendly and helpful -- it was exactly what we were looking for!

My husband and I just spent 2 nights in the Rosebud Cottage at the Piney Hill Bed & Breakfast for our honeymoon. It was absolutely fantastic!! In my husband's words, "Wow, these guys really know what they're doing!" The 'breakfast fairy" came each morning around 8:50am, knocked on the door, and left a picnic basket full of deliciousness on the table in the screened-in porch. The breakfast was SO GOOD and more than you could ever hope to finish. It looked beautiful too. The cottage was beautifully decorated and offered everything we could ever want. The privacy of the cottage was great -- just the cows out back a little ways off the patio (along with a million stars at night), and in the front a row of hedges sits between the screened in porch and the main house. The outdoor jacuzzi with the beautiful views was great, especially after a long day of hiking in the nearby mountains. Hank and Wiley have really thought of everything. They are so friendly, welcoming, and helpful. They gave us great advice on restaurants, hiking, and local activities. They work very hard to keep Piney Hill in travelers' good graces, and it shows. They obviously take great pride in their establishment. I could go on and on -- we just can't say enough good things! GO THERE! We will be back!

First BB experience and it was fantastic. Future BB's will have much to live up to. The setting is very peaceful, calming and close to the Shenandoah National Park. Room was spotless and great attention to detail was evident. Breakfast was awesome. Wiley and Hank were very gracious hosts with loads of knowledge about surrounding area activities, places to eat, places to hike, places to visit etc. From the beginning they welcomed us as if we were old friends and continued that feeling throughout the stay. This is "THE" place to stay when in the Luray area.

Getting away to Piney Hill was an incredible experience - Innkeepers Hank and Wiley made our stay in their beautifully appointed Rosebud Cottage extra special from the moment we arrived - celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary, we found a card waiting on our bed, tea lights for a romantic evening, freshly baked cookies, just to start. Amazing breakfasts arrived at our door piping hot from the oven in a picnic basket for two each morning. Our hosts spent time getting to know us, arranging day activities, dinner reservations and even creating a evening of smore-making over an open fire. From their beautifully appointed rooms and main house to their romantic garden with views of the mountains and their own antique barn, we couldn't have asked for a more memorable weekend! Piney Hill is a stop we'll make again in the years to come.

We stayed 2 nights are this wonderful B&B. The reviews sounded too good to be true but we found that it lived up to its excellent reputation. The views were beautiful, the accommodations were great and the innkeepers delightful. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious and so hardy that we were late afternoon before we thought of eating again. We are already telling our friends if they are looking for a place that is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the scenery – this is it. A sampler in the living room said it all – “How nice it is to do nothing and relax after.”

Piney Hill is a fabulous B&B to enjoy delicious food, beautiful surroundings, and great company. We started each day with an incredible breakfast that was not only a treat for our nose and tummy but also kept us energized through our adventures in the Shenandoah Valley. Then, we returned home sip wine in the outdoor hot tub with mountain and farm views! After dinner, we would frequently find a delicious sweet treat awaiting us.... Hank and Wiley know the area well and were able to suggest lots of great activities that were suited to our interests and abilities... They have a remarkable ability to get to know people and help each guest find exactly what they would hope for a vacation! This is a wonderful B&B in a beautiful part of the country!

My husband and I spent his birthday weekend at Piney Hill B&B. It was one of the best weekends we had in a very long time. Hank and Wiley were simply delightful. They made us feel very welcome and like part of the family. The breakfasts were "to die for" and we looked forward to them each morning. Of course, every guests must stay at the Rosebud Cottage! We will definitely make Piney Hill B&B our regular vacation spot.

My wife and I enjoyed our two-night stay at a place that's just like home! Great room decor, extremely hospitable hosts, and a fabulous breakfast each morning. What more could you ask for?! Hank and Wiley's attention to little details (chocolates in the room, sodas in the in-room fridge, distilled water for the in-room coffee maker, and on and on and on) make this a place we look forward to visiting again. Their restaurant recommendations and the pre-arranged horseback riding made for an unforgettable stay.

This adorable farmhouse looks like it is right out of a cozy storybook. Hank and Wiley were incredibly nice and very helpful. I mentioned somewhere in the booking process that I was surprising my fiance with this trip for his birthday and when we arrived the innkeepers had left a birthday card on the bed for him. Neither one of us had ever been to the area before and they helped us pick out restaurants, and places to go, giving us directions and maps to everything. They had the most amazing hot tub located on a trellised garden porch. We sat on the wrap around porch for lunch almost everyday, and the bedroom was clean and cozy with this wonderful "all season" fireplace. The food was amazing, my fiance (who is a picky eater) ate everything. The place was so nice we almost didn't want to go see the area, we just wanted to relax in the house all day! We had never stayed at a B&B before and I was nervous about the idea of staying in someone's house, but I felt totally comfortable there. They made me feel like I was staying with friends, very helpful friends who cook great breakfasts!

Travelling with my wife and daughter, we spent two wonderful nights at Hank & Wiley's B&B. I have delayed writing a review as I am simply stuck for the correct superlatives! On arrival our first impressions were that we had chosen a great B&B and during our stay things just kept getting better and better! In fact rather than the two nights we did stay, we really wished that we were staying longer. The guys have done so much to make you feel at home, you begin to wish that it was! We stayed in the Mark Ruffner Suite, which is just perfect if there are more than two (adults) in the party. The whole property is a feast for the eyes and just when you think it can't get better you doscover the outside vistas. From the garden, we were very fortunate in seeing a young bear and mother before breakfast - I'm sure others have been spotted since - but wow, what a way to start a vacation in Shenendoah! There is plenty to do from here - the caverns, the Skyline Drive and multitude of walks, horse riding (highly recommended), leisurely river strolls and vineyards or guess what - just chilling out! Hank & Wiley, you have a terrific approach to the B&B sector and as you say, people arrive as stangers and depart as friends. We are seasoned travellers and when we say, it was a perfect start to our vacation - it was indeed the perfect start! Thank you so much - and we sincerely hope to visit again. Peter & family

Stayed three days/two nights. Hank and Wiley are amazing! Their home is inviting and comfortable. Their yard is beautiful with lots of places to relax and enjoy the views of the county side and mountains. Breakfast was fabulous, as were the restaurant recommendations. H&W made us feel like we were old friends. Thanks! We'll be back!

We looked for our first bed and breakfast online, thinking to find a honeymoon spot in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The website attracted us and the whole place lived up to those same expectations. We think that we got a gem in the world of B&B's. We stayed in the Rosebud Cottage and had delicious breakfasts delivered to us in picnic baskets which we ate in the back of the cottage, overlooking the neighboring pastures. Piney Hill is close to Luray and all of its sites, some of which we got an opportunity to take advantage of during our short stay.

Hank and Wiley at Piney Hill B and B have created the perfect getaway environment from the busy city life. We enjoyed the small town experience and the weekend away from DC. We stayed in one of the cottages which was very clean, inviting, and cosy. It had everything we needed, and the breakfasts and afternoon snacks were exceptionally delightful. They covered all the details including checking ingredients in all foods due to my boyfriend's nut allergy as well as washing all sheets/towels in fragrance free detergent due to a skin allergy that I have! Talk about top notch service. Hank and Wiley are also very inviting, provide all details of Luray's dining and sites, and just pleasant to chat with. There are also plenty of activities to keep yourself busy in the area to include horseback riding, kayaking, swimming, hiking, touring caverns, and the list goes on. Hank and Wiley were also very helpful and knowledgeable when it came to finding things to do during the day. I highly recommend Piney Hill bed and breakfast, and we will undoubtedly return!

Although an abrupt change of plans took us to Piney Hill, we couldn’t be happier with our experience. The tempting smell of Hank’s butter pecan cake as we entered the inn set the stage for a wonderful stay. The views are beautiful, the breakfast was perfection, and the inn is one of the most charming we’ve visited. Wiley's knowledgeable recommendations helped with a choice of dinner spots, and his directions got us the rest of the way through our spontaneous weekend trip. Away from the bustle of town and the caverns, but a short drive when you're ready to visit them.

This was my 6th visit at Piney Hill. I enjoy going there not only to relax but to see friends Hank and Wiley. Its like coming home to family that you dont get to see that often but when you do see them you feel like youre at home. Some people think that when you go to a B&B that you only see the inn keepers for breakfast. Well that's not the case here. They also are involved with their guests and what they have plans to do for the day. They give ideas of what to do, where to eat, even making dinner reservations for you. They also help you get around with maps and ideas. I will continue to go back every Memorial Day weekend. Come and meet the family that is always happy to see you! :) Erin and Robbie from Sterling VA

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful visit at the Piney Hill B&B. Our hosts, Wiley and Hank were fantastic and went out of their way to make our stay memorable. They were very helpful with recommendations and dinner reservations. We were impressed with Luray, which has a small, but vibrant downtown and some great restaurants. Our accommodations were comfortable and inviting. Breakfast was the best. We can’t wait to return to the Piney Hill B&B.

My husband and I had the most wonderful experience at Piney Hill. The Hosts were so warm and inviting. They made conversation so easy and we definitely felt welcome. The accomodations were superb. The breakfast was delicious and so well presented. We got there as it was getting dark, so I had a surprise waiting for me when I got up in the morning and walked outside- What a View from the back of the property-breathe taking! My husband and I talk about Piney Hill a lot and can't wait until we get the chance to go back. Everyone should have this experience. Cathleen and Frank Durkee Anderson, SC

My husband and I went down to Luray for the weekend. We have done weekends at B&Bs before, but this was definitely the best experience. Luray has plenty to do, but Hank and Wiley also make relaxing and doing nothing wonderful as well. Lying around in the hammock or rocking on the front porch was fantastic. Breakfast was excellent and we loved the afternoon snacks. They were the perfect hosts, always full of wonderful advice, but never intrusive. We'll be back!

We have stayed at some nice B&B's over the years; Piney Hill is the best yet. The location is beautiful, surrounded by rolling farmlands, Blue Ridge Mountains on the horizon, fresh air, and starry skies. If you like the Shenandoah Valley, you will love this location. And the hospitality could not be friendlier. Hank and Wiley are masters of B&B service. They clearly enjoyed helping us relax and enjoy ourselves, cheerfully offering good information and assistance for planning our excursions in Luray. As you will see in other reviews, the breakfast is delectable. "Two thumbs up" for Piney Hill!

On the Jan.09 recommendation of Lisa Cubbage (Jordan Hollow Stables), we immediately booked at Piney Hill. From start to finish, Hank & Wiley made our vacation get-away/elopement very special. We can't thank them enough for their hospitality. Having never met them, we arrived already feeling very welcomed. They physically opened their B&B doors while opening their arms to us. We truly felt at home. We stayed in the Rosebud Cottage, but went over to the main house each day to talk with them. We're sure they were busy keeping up their magnificent house, but they never hesitated to stop & talk with us. Words cannot express how magical & perfect our stay was at Piney Hill. Hank & Wiley go out of their way to make sure all their guests are comfortable (thanks for the extra heater!) & have every amenity they desire. Their housekeeping skills are unsurpassed & their decorating is divine. The views from all over the property are fantastic because its setting is perfect - just outside the main town, but certainly central to anything you want to do or see. Breakfast & afternoon baked treats are amazingly delicious. The congo squares & lady fingers are superb...but so are the pecan french toast, breakfast quiche, chocolate raspberry cheesecake, oatmeal raisin cookies, mixed fruit parfait, berry sorbet, & mixed berry pancakes with fresh fruit. Be sure to visit their Red Antiques Barn for those extra-special gifts to take home with you to remember your trip by. Just like Lisa Cubbage made our "vacation desination of choice" the Shenandoah Mountains, Hank &Wiley made Luray, VA & Piney Hill B&B our "vacation reservation location of choice." We can't wait to return & visit with Hank & Wiley again in the summer. This is a special place, created with care & love by the owners really, truly enjoy what they do &, thus, enhance the lives of the people who stay there. Thank you for starting the Piney Hill B&B!

My honey and I take little weekend getaways several times a year to refresh. This was our first time staying in the Luray area. I found Piney Hill - and Hank & Wiley - on one of the B&B websites and was blown away by the home just from their website. Upon arrival, the place, the house, the room, the innkeepers, the setting exceeded my expectations 100 fold. Every detail was so carefully executed - so much time and attention, not to mention the obvious passion and joie de vive for their home and guests. From dinner reservations, to conversation, to the spectacularly appointed room, to the breakfast presentation (oh my goodness, go for this reason alone!), Hank and Wiley were superb. For us, having genuine, kind, warm folks provide so much hospitality was the highlight of our trip. This wonderful home is just minutes from the quaint town of Luray, but also close to the other activities on our itinerary: Horseback riding, Shenandoah Caverns, wineries, antiques, and the Meems Covered Bridge to name a few. We left with more than a weekend of memories, and we will return to see our new friends soon!

I surprised my girlfriend with a stay at the Piney Hill B&B to celebrate out 1st anniversary together. What a great choice! We absolutely loved it! Our room (the Emma Rogers Room) was cozy and bright, and the breakfast Hank made was amazing. He was extremely knowledgeable of the area and gave us great suggestions of things to do. Unfortunately, we did not get to meet Wiley during our 1 night there, but we look forward to meeting him the next time we stay at Piney Hill.

This was our first bed and breakfast experience and we could not have had a better time. Thanks to Hank and Wiley, we had the most romantic 6 year anniversary trip. No details were spared and they took perfect care of us. They gave great suggestions on places to have dinner. Breakfast at Piney Hill was flawless. The Walter Rogers room was "Martha Stewart" worthy. Our favorite was the hot tub in the back that overlooked the mountains. You will be blown away by their friendliness and adorable home! We are already planning a return trip ;)

Our stay at the Piney Hill Inn was outstanding in every way. When my wife and I left, we were already thinking about when we could go back! The wonderful innkeepers Hank and Wiley made our stay a truly unforgettable experience. Breakfast each morning was not only delicious but also beautifully presented. When Hank and Wiley found out we were going up to Skyline to sightsee, they suggested that we take a picnic lunch from West Main Market and gave us a book of short hike descriptions. Both of these were invaluable, and we loved the hiking so much that we stayed up there all day. When we returned to the inn at mid-afternoon, there were little treats waiting for us that hit the spot after a day of exercise. Hank and Wiley recommended the Artisan's Grill, which was also a great suggestion. Returning to the hot tub each day in the cold nights under the stars was the perfect end to two great days in Luray and Shenandoah National Park.

As soon as we entered the driveway, we were so impressed with the landscape we knew we had made a great choice. Hank and Wiley made us feel so welcome that we adopted them right away as family! They gave us excellent choices in dining, town activities and a wonderful place to worship on Sunday. You could not ask for a better place to stay, and we promised we would be back and we'd NEVER break that promise!!

Wow, what an experience! April and I visited Piney Hill B&B for the first time November, 2008. This was our first B&B experience. Hank and Wiley have a beautiful home and they go above and beyond to ensure their guests enjoy their stay. April and I caught ourselves multiple times saying, “lets go home,” when referring to the B&B. Piney Hill felt like home without the usual hustle and bustle of our lives. It was a very relaxing weekend. The hot tub was placed perfectly on the side of the home, with views of mountains as far as we could see. The breakfasts, oh where do I begin, I believe Hank and Wiley were chefs in their last life, because the meals were out of this world. Not only is Piney Hill going to become an annual tradition, but Hank and Wiley have set the bar high for any other B&B we could potentially visit. Thank you again for your hospitality and making us feel like family. We can’t wait to visit again.

My husband and I were married on October 25, 2008 and decided to go to the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia for our honeymoon. I found Piney Hill on the internet and decided to make a reservation for three nights. What a great decision! Piney Hill is a wonderful place and the proprietors, Hank & Wiley, are even better. They have a beautiful home that is warm and cozy. We stayed in the Rose Bud Cottage, which is a separate cottage on the property. Guests can either eat breakfast in their dining room with the other guests who stay in the house, or do as we did, and have a picnic basket full of breakfast goodies delivered to the porch each morning. What fun! It was so neat each morning to wait for the basket and hurriedly open it to see what would be in there that morning. Oh my goodness! Their cooking/baking is awesome!! And beautifully presented also! The cottage was also decorated in such a fun way that you could look around forever and always see somethng new. Hank and Wiley have thought of every little detail, which makes for such a pleasant stay. They are meant to be doing what they are doing! My husband and I spent a lot of time away from Piney Hill doing tourist type things, but it would be fun to go back and just stay there and relax and get to know Hank and Wiley better. They are great! They were always so willing to help us with information about the area and where to go, eat, etc. We had such fun and I fell in the love with the area and can't wait to go back. I hope to go back in warmer weather so that we can enjoy the deck on the back of the cottage which has a beautiful view of the mountains and surrounding farm land. Don't hesitate to stay at Piney Hill Bed & Breakfast -- you won't regret it!

We have been going to Piney Hill almost since it opened in 2000. There's a good reason we keep returning: the friendly innkeepers have created an oasis! Delicious and generous breakfasts, spotlessly clean rooms, fantastic location for antiques, nature, crafts, sports, dining, country drives. We return home relaxed and recharged. I can't recommend Piney Hill highly enough.

I decided to suprise my husband with a trip for our first anniversary. Neither of us had ever stayed at a B&B before, so I thought we would try it! We could not have asked for a better "first time" than what we had at Piney Hill!!!!!!! Hank & Wiley were fabulous hosts!! The accomedations were incredible!!!! The food.........off the charts!!!!!!! We stayed in the cottage, and despite cool, foggy/rainy weather had remarkable views...and we got to enjoy the coziness of the cottage. We can't wait to go back and would highly recommend to anyone who wants/needs a quiet get-away!!!!!!

We have enjoyed the surroundings of Piney Hill B&B on a few occasions, but we have to vote for Autumn as the greatest. We do not think there is a more perfect location for a get-a-way then Piney Hill. Thanks Hank and Wiley for sharing your part of the world with us. Looking forward to our next stay.

I booked my stay at the Piney Hill B&B to spend a relaxing weekend after a long week of work meetings and events. I had never been to Luray before and, after having read the wonderful reviews, when I found that they had availability for the weekend I wanted to visit, I jumped at the opportunity. It was everything I had wanted. Not only are the hosts, Hank and Wiley, extremely welcoming, their property is beautiful and inviting. Breakfast was heaven on a plate. Their porch, lovely landscaping and friendly cats make it an ideal place to relax. The bed and linens were very comfortable and sattelite TV is in each room. All in all, aside from uncooperative weather, it was a great weekend and I look forward to returning again soon.

Having lodged at more than twenty-five B&Bs, our most memorable ones would be those that have gone beyond providing “a bed and a breakfast.” The ones that truly stand out for us are those whose proprietors add that personal touch. These people are personable, conversant, and tripping over themselves to make our stay in their area special. Piney Hill B&B would be on our short list of memorable B&Bs. Hank and Wiley are the consummate proprietors!

Our daughter and her new husband gave us two nights at a B&B they picked out online (based on reviews) and boy, were the reviews right. Piney Hill's location meant that we planned a couple of trips into Shenandoah National Park for short hikes (less than 15 minutes away), went tubing in the river, and visited Luray Caverns. After every outing it felt like we were coming back home (a home that had nice bathrobes hanging up and a great hot tub in the backyard). Breakfasts were excellent, and our hosts made afternoon cookies and even dinner reservations for us in town. Ah, what a nice little vacation!

For our 10th anniversary my husband, Mike, surprised me with a wonderful trip to the Piney Hill B&B. It was our first B&B experience and it was outstanding. Wiley and Hank are the most gracious hosts and amazing people. They made our stay at the B&B even more special then it already was. They were more then accomadating for us and made sure to make our stay extra special by leaving us treats and a special dessert in our room. The breakfasts were out of this world and the "entertainment" from Hank and Wiley was a great start to our days. I can't remember laughing that hard in a long time and I haven't since we left. They have the most wonderful personalities and they make you feel so at home and so welcome. Just thinking about them makes me miss them and wish we were heading back now. I would highly recommend Piney Hill to all friends, family and any stranger I see. Thanks to Wiley and Hank for the most amazing B&B experience. I'm sure no other will ever measure up!! Thank you!

We weren't sure exactly what to expect, but were pleased beyond our expectations. Located further out in the country than we expected, we were happy for the added privacy. Nothing was too far a drive and the amenities were first rate. Don't go expecting to diet. We were greated with fresh baked goods every day and between the cheese and fruit platter that greated us and the large breakfasts, we had no need for lunches. We just snacked in the afternoon. We were there only a few hours when my wife started to plan our next trip. We had a much needed and appreciated couple of days of down time. We will be back.

After a 7 1/2 hour stressful and tiring drive down Route 81 from Syracuse, NY, we found peace and relaxation at Piney Hill B & B. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and at home. Hank and Wiley are the most hospitable and fun innkeepers we've met. They were very helpful with directions, restaurant recommendations, and made sure our every need was met. We enjoyed the social interaction with them but were given privacy when we chose to have it. The hearty and delicious breakfasts they prepared exceeded our expectations. The charming house is uniquely decorated with antiques but very comfortable. They have a lovely yard with all kinds of flowering plants and trees. We loved relaxing on the porch and enjoying the awesome views of the mountains and pastures and the scent of the lilacs. I can't say enough about their wonderful hospitality and exceptional service. We'll definitely go back!

THE BEST - For years, my wife and I alternate surprising the other on our anniversary weekend a weekend at a selected B&B in a differnet town in the state of Virginia. After this past anniversary weekend at Piney Hill and traveling around Luray and Front Royal, this has been the best ever B&B EVER we have had the enjoyment to be guests at. From the 5 star breakfasts and room my wife and I never knew life could be so wonderful as quests. And let me tell you about Wiley and Hank, they are two 6 star innkeepers if there is anything better than 5 star treatment - THANKS GUYS, Fran and I loved life at the Piney Hill and will be back soon. Heartbroken after experiencing a sudden loss, my husband and I tried to return to the daily grind of raising two young children while working and running our household. We needed a break. Time away together - just the two of us. I love the Blue Ridge so my husband chose Luray. A quiet, Virginia, country town with lots of charming attractions that is tucked away amoung pastures and mountains. The views there are the best the Shenandoah Valley has to offer! Hank and Wiley are so welcoming. And their decor is inspirational as is the story of their farmhouse's restoration. They are truely talented decorators and innkeepers. The Country Barn and Antiques and Gift Shop is a true find! It's a classy, expertly arranged shop. Soft music playing, perfect lighting and the best antique finds around. I was so pleased by their Gift Shop! Outstanding. When I woke, the most beautiful views of the Blue Ridge greeted me. The room was charming and the breakfast perfect. Recovering from a broken heart, my husband joined the others for breakfast but I requested breakfast in bed. Hank and Wiley were happy to ablige. They treated me to the most beautiful breakfast tray complete with fresh flowers. We selected a movie from their large collection. Hank, noticing that we were settling in for a movie night, provided a large bowl of butter popcorn. The quiet. The scenery. The hospitatlity. The decor. The mountians. It's no wonder we found peace at Piney Hill. Hank and Wiley worked hard to restore a historic Shenandoah farmhouse and they artfully share it with their quests. We know they will enjoy every success! We will return for many more peaceful getaways at Piney Hill. Sincerely, Marie and Joben Kronebusch

My stay at Piney Hill B&B was one of the most enjoyable, relaxing, wonderful experiences I have ever had! Hank and Wiley are such charming and wonderful hosts, that you feel like family from the moment you arrive! If you are vegetarian or vegan, you are in for a treat! Hank and Wiley make delicious vegan breakfasts! Also, if you are a cyclist, there are tons of beautiful rides you can do in the area...with smooth roads and fantastic scenery! My fiance and I absolutely loved our stay here, and would recommend this place to all couples! The Piney Hill B&B is the perfect spot for a weekend getaway!

Everything from booking our stay to planning activities was so simple. The inn keepers, Hank & Wiley, were very friendly and inviting. We felt genuinely welcome in their home, and by the end of our weekend, they felt like good friends, rather than inn keepers. The views from the cottage and property were breathtaking. Hank & Wiley provided us with everything we needed during our stay, including directions and advice on the best local spots to dine. The breakfasts were amazing. There was obviously a lot of thought put into them. They were truly gourmet. In addition to breakfast, the cottage had been stocked with assorted drinks, candies, coffee and tea. Wiley & Hank also baked quite a few batches of cookies during our stay, and twice brought out a plate to us, as well as invited us into the main house for more. On the second night of our stay, they prepared a chocolate pecan tart that was out of this world and brought 2 slices out to the cottage for us when we returned from our dinner. We stayed in the Rosebud Cottage. It was an amazing experience. The cottage was so beautiful and homey. I had chosen the Romantic package and the roses and chocolates that came with it were amazing. Additionally, they had put down artificial rose pedals on the tables in the cottage. They were laid out perfectly. As soon as we arrived Wiley showed us the house and the cottage and made sure we had everything we needed. The cottage also had satellite tv and a dvd player. The main house had a wide variety of dvd movie selections. Their recommendations for places to eat & activities during our stay were right on. Wiley suggested the trail that I chose to propose to my fiance on. It went perfectly. The whole weekend was perfect. It wouldn't have been the same with out Wiley, Hank & Piney Hill.

Piney Hill is truly a hidden treasure nestled in the beautiful scenary of the Blue Ridge mountains. Every time we stay, I feel completely re-energized. Hank & Wiley have perfected the art of inn keeping. They make you feel at home and make sure you don't leave the breakfast table hungry!!! Our third stay was just as wonderful as our first. We definitely look forward to our next visit in the spring. Can't wait to hold down the front porch with a rocking chair and just relax!!!

My wife and I chose Piney Hill B&B as our fifth anniversary getaway. What a completely amazing experience. Right from the reservation to until we left, everything was beyond excellence. Hank and Wiley are two of the greatest hosts we have ever had and showed us what true hospitality meant. Right from welcoming us, showing us the way around, providing so many small touches, a truly amazing breakfast and the breathtaking view, Piney Hill B&B was an absolutely incredible two nights. We stayed at the Rosebud Cottage which is an independent cottage a few steps away from the main house. Needless to say, the cottage was extremely well done and made us feel right at home as soon as we set foot in. My wife and I would definitely recommend this place to everyone and can safely say that you will have a truly great experience.

If your ever looking for a nice getaway from all the stress, then this is the place. Hank & Wiley have opened their home to allow you to just sit back and relax or go out and enjoy the country side. There are many things to do in Luray, but I have to tell you that the professionalisms of these guys will totally surprise you. The meals are out-of-this-world. I've never had such great breakfasts at any B&B, and I've been to many over my years. This is the Best B&B you'll ever find ANYWHERE! Trust me, you'll love every part of this charming old house. If you've been to other B&B's and you get the same ole HO HUM, then you know what I'm talking about. This is a must B&B to stay at....

I have traveled the world and have stayed in some amazing lodgings but none with the customer service provided at Piney Hill! Hank and Wiley are truly without comparison and masters of their craft. They are genuinely friendly and welcoming but run a very professional and extremely comfortable home. No stuffy dining hall here....bring your jeans, t-shirts, slippers and enjoy the best breakfast in Virginia. Forget what you "think" you won't eat....Hank will make you fall in love with food again. Highly recommended!

This weekend was such a wonderful experience. The innkeepers took care of every tiny detail to make this a romantic memorable weekend. The food was cooked to perfection and brought to us in a picnic basket each morining, how awesome! The cottage was so cozy and just enough room for two people to never want to get out of bed. There was a huge selection of movies to choose from. We were offered suggestions of cute little restaurants to go to and winery's and flea markets to check out. The scenery out the back of the cottage was breathtaking and the hot tub a perfect ending to a long day. We can't wait to go back and visit again soon!

The only thing that could have made it better would have been a longer stay! From the first welcoming hello to the "good bye-come back soon" wave from the front porch, Hank and Wiley were exceptional hosts. They were attentive, but not intrusive. They took such good care of us so we could relax and enjoy Piney Hill. Wow...Great Breakfasts!!! The breakfasts were always beautifully presented and yummy in the tummy. We also loved the late night homemade pound cake. Our room was beautifully decorated and "at home" comfortable. Piney Hill is a great escape. We shall return!!!

My boyfriend and I just got back from a night at Piney Hill and I have to say that it definitely lived up to my high expectations. Especially after reading hundreds of ravings about the place, I was really hoping for a place that my boyfriend, who is extremely private, would feel comfortable in. It was perfect. We've both been in the restaurant and hospitality industry for years and can recognize and appreciate good food and service. We only stayed one night there, but it was long enough to feel very well cared for and welcome. Considerate touches were made when we weren't watching such as turning down our sheets and placing chocolates on them when we went out for dinner, and we felt Hank, who welcomed us, was very attentive to our needs. The room had a great view, a warm fireplace and satellite tv with movie channels. We spoke to Hank at length and could tell that he had an admirable work ethic, as well as good culinary skills if breakfast the next morning was any indication. The room and bathroom were both immaculate. Our two favorite things about this day trip were probably Hanks company, and his french toast!

First, the InnKeepers, Hank and Wiley, are amazing! They go above and beyond to cater to your every want and need! Second, the property is BEAUTIFUL! The views from all sides really take your breath away. Third, their attention to detail is unmatched. Everywhere you turn, there is another creature-comfort. Warm, fuzzy robes, little games to play, tons of movies to watch, little snacks laid out for you, DELICIOUS country breakfasts, gorgeous decorations (inside and out). We stayed in the Rosebud Cottage and it truly was a little slice of heaven! We are so glad that Hank and Wiley and even "Tri-pod" the kitty cat were there to make our experience at Piney Hill one in a million!

My partner and I stayed at Piney Hill Bed & Breakfast soon after it first opened, and we have been back to stay many times over the last 6 years. The house is so warmly decorated -- which is also a reflection of the Innkeeper's personalities. I say Innkeepers, but we actually consider them our friends. They have been treating us like family from the first time we walked through their door. We generally visit 1 to 3 times a year. We have met some great people during our stays. Sometimes it's just the two of us, but we've also taken family members several times, and we've also booked the whole house with friends a couple of times. It is a great place to unwind from the stress of work and everyday life in D.C. or to visit and catch up with friends and family. We love all the rooms, but our favorite is the Rosebud Cottage. The cottage is so spacious, private and relaxing. We usually have our breakfast delivered to the cottage unless we have booked the house with friends; then we eat at the large farm table in the dining room. Wiley & Hank usually try to change up the breakfast menu or ask what some of our favorites from previous visit have been. We also like the fact that the Bed & Breakfast is close to many different things. We love to head out on the country roads, exploring and taking in the sites, hitting the antique and pottery shops along the way. We will continue to visit the Luray area, our friends Wiley & Hank and Piney Hill B & B for many years to come.

We choose Piney Hill Bed & Breakfast to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. This was our first visit to a Bed and Breakfast and we didn't know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised with the decor, yummy food, hospitality and refreshing aromas of a fresh apple cake baking. The attention to detail was unbelievable and amazing!! We even had a very nice anniversary card waiting for us in the room. We felt as though we were with family and not amongst strangers. Hank and Wiley made this experience unforgettable!! They will be seeing us again!!

We visited Piney Hill Bed & Breakfast during our honeymoon get-away through the Shenandoah Valley. I finally married the man; my best friend, that I have loved from the moment I met him. It was such fun shopping in the Piney Hill Gift Shop for things to decorate our new Master bedroom and hot tub suite. The great photos C.T. took during our stay as well as the wonderful memories will be treasured forever. Wiley & Hank; the innkeepers, made us feel so at home. The breakfasts each morning were awesome and could not have been more perfect. The other guests were most enjoyable and we enjoyed the social time with them during our stay. We will definitely return to Piney Hill and highly recommend a stay to anyone looking for a romantic and relaxing setting.

We stay at Piney Hill once or twice per year and it keeps getting better and better. Wiley and Hank continue to upgrade the appointments and offerings without ever loosing the comfortable and casual atmosphere that makes this a place to return time and time again. However, book early -- many more people are discovering this great bargain.

Our second stay was just as wonderful as our first! It is so nice to get away to the Piney Hill and relax. The innkeepers are fabulous and the breakfast was once again outstanding!!! It's a great break from the "real world". We left well rested and recharged! Already looking forward to our stay in January, 2008. Thanks again for a wonderful stay.

I had never been to a b&b before and was a teeny bit hesitant since my boyfriend and I are young (20’s) and unmarried, but the experience at Piney Hill was amazing. I will definitely try to go back! The innkeepers (Hank and Wiley) are friendly, kind, knowledgeable about restaurants/sites/wineries/shopping in the area, and do everything to guarantee a wonderful stay at their beautiful house. I had also heard that b&bs can be strange since you feel like you’re intruding in someone’s home, but that was not the case at piney hill at all. It felt like an incredibly personalized, warm hotel stay that also included a delicious breakfast. Over 2 mornings, we had poached pear, pumpkin pancakes, quiche (they even made a special vegetarian one for me!), lemon-poppyseed loaf, fresh fruit, coffee/tea/oj, etc! They always offered 2nd helpings, and it was all scrumptious. They even have a little counter of candy corn, chocolates, and little snacks, as well as chocolates and cereal in your room! They also have a hot tub and a pretty extensive collection of dvds/vhs tapes to watch in your room. The area was very rural and beautiful. We had a great lunch at a restaurant Hank and Wiley recommended (A Moment to Remember?) but we didn’t enjoy dinner at the one Mexican restaurant in town (the food tasted terrible, the daiquiri was even worse, and there was a hair on my boyfriend’s burrito). I would suggest asking Hank and Wiley for another option!

My husband and I stayed in the Rosebud Cottage at the Piney Hill B&B for our 2nd wedding anniversary weekend. From the moment we pulled into the drive I knew we had found a small piece of heaven on earth. Hank and Wiley were more than wonderful and made our stay one we will not forget for years to come. The food they prepared was excellent and I even took some of their recipes home! They arranged a couples massage for us that was exactly what we needed. Hank and Wiley were so helpful in sending us off in the right directions to explore. They made reservations for us at the Artisan Grill where we thoroughly enjoyed a romantic dinner by candlelight overlooking the main street in the little town of Luray. Afterwards we relaxed in the hot tub peaking at the moon through the weeping willow branches. Truley a remarkable place and I would reccomend a stay at Piney Hill B&B to anyone looking for a little piece of heaven on earth. We look forward to spending more special occasions nestled on top of Piney Hill!

Our stay at Piney Hill B&B was extremely enjoyable. The owners Wiley and Hank made sure we had everything we needed and helped with making our dinner reservations so I was able to relax and enjoy our stay. Sitting on the front porch rocking and drinking our coffee and just enjoying the beautiful view was so relaxing. The food at Piney Hill B&B was incredible. I highly recommend Piney Hill B&B and we look forward to returning and staying longer the next time. The Gorgone’s

These guys can cook! Every day we had a different delicious breakfast that looked like something out of one of those gourmet magazines, it was so beautifully put together. Lots of goodies to snack on later, too (chocolate chip cookies, brownies, apple cake...yum!). The rooms were so nicely decorated with antiques and knick-knacks, you were always noticing something new. The beds and pillows were very comfortable, too. The inn is set in a nice quiet area, with a lovely view of the mountains, yet not too far from the town. We loved the cats, they're absolutely adorable. Wiley and Hank make you feel right at home, they were very helpful with info about the area, and were just perfect hosts. I only wish we'd had another 4 days to spend!

This was our second visit to Piney Hill. Piney Hill has been my only B&B experience, but I can't imagine anyone doing it better. Staying at Piney Hill with Hank & Wiley is like staying with friends - and friends who happen to be excellent cooks! I always feel welcome and comfortable. The beds are so cozy, I slept better than I have in months. One of my best memories is sitting in a rocker with my boyfriend on their front porch with a glass of wine. The country house, beautiful landscape and amazing view makes it such a romantic setting.

My husband and I recently spent a weekend at the Piney Hill B&B. It was the perfect getaway and one that you can do without a lot of forward planning. Hank and Wiley have lots of suggestions as to how you can pass the time complete with maps of the nearby hiking trails and menus of nearby restaurants. They really go out of their way to ensure that you enjoy every minute of your trip. We loved waking up in the morning to the soft sound of cows in neighboring fields and viewing the idyllic landscape from our windows. Breakfast is absolutely delicious and just what you'd want before a big day of hiking. We had a wonderful weekend with Hank and Wiley and would happily return!

On our first visit to this charming country bed and breakfast 6 years ago we were welcomed at the front door with such a warm welcome which immediately gave us a feeling that we were more than just guests. We were now part of their family. We were so impressed by the warmth and hominess. Hank & Wiley, led us all through the farmhouse giving us a small bit of history of how it came to be Piney Hill. When lounging around the grounds, we enjoy gazing at the mountain views from the front porch, under the willow tree in the garden area or from the outdoor Jacuzzi. It soothes the soul. After an incredible breakfast, we head out to the town of Luray which is full of wonderful shops and places to eat. Besides doing all of the local attractions and area wineries over the past 6 years, we have also ventured out to Monticello, The Natural Bridge and the Charlestown horse races and casino. We also enjoy antique shopping and flea markets which abound in the area. Hank and Wiley recently built a barn which looks as if it's been there for years. It houses their gift shop which is a Must Do before leaving for home. I have found many treasures in this little barn. I definitely have to say that when they advertise as a relaxing, adventure or romantic get-away,they hit the nail on the head. They are superb at giving directions to various places of interest, make dinner reservations for you, and are always happy to offer advice on places to visits. I am most impressed with the way they know when you need some alone time. We will continue to visit Piney Hill, making new friends and seeing old friends. there are quite a few of us who keep coming back. Did I mention we've stayed in every room including the romantic cottage! It is truly our home away from home and I encourage everyone to give it a try. Tell them Cathy sent you:)

We had a wonderful time staying at Piney Hill Bed & Breakfast and thoughly enjoyed the hospitality. Wiley & Hank made us feel completely comfortable allowing us to relax and enjoy our time together, a home away from home. Elaine and I had a perfect weekend together. A large part of that was the atmosphere that the Innkeepers have created at Piney Hill. The room was cozy, the breakfasts were delicious, and the ambiance relaxing and inviting. This was a special occasion for us and a memorable weekend that we will have and cherish for the rest of our lives. We talked on the way home that we will have to make the trip to the Shenandoah Valley a yearly event and we would not consider staying anywhere but with Wiley & Hank at the Piney Hill B & B. I look forward to coming back and staying at Piney Hill. We will be sure to tell all of our friends about Piney Hill and the wonderful time we had there.

We stayed at this B & B for our 22nd Wedding Anniversary! Hank and Wiley really made our stay a memorable one! They not only made themselves available to answer any questions we had but, made us feel very comfortable in their home. They even rescued us one night when we were hunting down a place to watch the World Series. :) The food was wonderful and Hank even shared some of his awesome recipes with us. Their home was decorated so nicely and it really felt like a home away from home.

I can't wait to come back next year. Hank and Wiley- thanks for making our getaway the BEST EVER!!!!!!

My husband and I really enjoyed our weekend getaway at Piney Hill. We stayed in the cottage, which is cozy and private with a great view from the back porch. The best part was having a gourmet breakfast delivered to our door each morning. Hank and Wiley are the perfect hosts, very friendly and knowledgeable about local attractions, restaurants, etc. We hope we can return sometime soon for a longer stay!

Since I was on business up that way, I was only able to stay one night, but thoroughly enjoyed it. Hank and Wiley, the innkeepers, were gracious and welcoming, but never intrusive. There were nice little touches - fresh baked apple cake that evening, for instance, and a chocolate on the pillow. I would definitely recommend Piney Hill.

Our honeymoon was perfectly romantic! The cottage was dreamy...ergonomic layout with digital tv/big bed/in room fireplace, nice size bathroom, great kitchenette, back porch with picturesque field/mountain view. Plus, what is more romantic than a picnic basket filled with the most delicious hearty breakfast delivered to your door each morning!!! The "inn keepers" were SO friendly (and GREAT cooks) Loved every moment...we plan to return for anniversaries.

We REALLY enjoyed our stay! Hank and Wiley provided great hiking suggestions and dinner recommendations! Their breakfast is definitely something to look forward to each morning. They were VERY accommodating and we had an awesome stay in Luray! I wish I could post the pictures.. nice farm house and relaxing views in every direction. Unfortunately, the pictures are too large to post here.

We just returned from a lovely weekend at Piney Hill B&B. The whole experience was wonderful. We had a great impression from the start. The owners were helpful since we started making our reservations long ago. The house is located in a beautiful area, close to the Skyline Drive. The owners were great at giving directions and offering suggestions on what to do. There are very few rooms (I think there are only five) so the treatment each guest receives is very personalized. The place was full, and it was obvious everyone was happy. Each room has a different decoration, but they all seem to have a lot of character. I saw two of them, and they were different but both were really charming and ever so clean! The food deserves a special paragraph. It was absolutely wonderful. The breakfasts are exquisite. The whole stay was just superb. We were a party of four and each of us left with wonderful memories and with the definite desire to come back.

My husband and I stayed at Piney Hill for our first anniversary. We arrived to find an anniversary card on our bed and other goodies in the room as well. The house is decorated in a "country" style but very tasteful. Wiley and Hank were great hosts and breakfast was awesome - so much for my diet! Luray was great and we ate at the Artisan Grill. The guys are very knowlegdable about the area and gave us great directions. We made reservations for my parents for December and I know that they'll love it.

Piney Hill is by far the best Bed & Breakfast we have ever stayed at! After living in the big city for so long, I didn’t think such a setting could possible exist anymore; except in my dreams. The Rosebud Cottage is so nice. Every detail we could desire has been attended too. The wonderful breakfasts brought to our door each morning completely spoiled us. The mountain views on all four sides, the bucolic setting, the home and gardens, all made us feel as if we really were at home to wander as we pleased. We will always remember our wonderful hosts and their gracious hospitality. We want to return already! I will miss Piney Hill and the Rosebud Cottage. I feel blessed to have found such a wonderful place.

I cannot even begin to describe how beautiful the scenery is at Piney Hill. It is nestled in a valley surrounded by rolling hills of pastures and mountains in the distance. You can even sit on the front porch with a cup of tea and watch the cows grazing across the way. I honestly was not expecting it to be as beautiful as it was, but I was blown away. My boyfriend and I went mid-September and it was perfect. October and early November would be amazing as well when the leaves change colors. Hank and Wiley are terrific, the food is delicious, and the rooms are all adorable. Don't forget your bathing suit and some wine! The hot tub is a great way to wind down the day. I would recommend getting a room on the second floor because the floor boards creak and we could hear the people walking around above us in the mornings. But it really wasn't a big deal because everyone woke up around the same time to eat breakfast together at 9:00 at the giant table (so cute!). Things to do while you're there: I would recommend relaxing as much as possible! Hank and Wiley have a great video collection. But if you want to enjoy the great outdoors I would recommend hiking or visiting the caverns (they're pretty neat). DON'T waste your time on the horseback riding. I was in pain the whole time and you don't even see anything cool during the ride.

From the moment we arrived until we forced ourselves to leave, we were treated to a relaxing stay. Warm smells of cookies and cakes baking for our delight, and fragrances of beautiful gardens kept our senses heightened. We enjoyed the hot tub even in a gentle rain shower! Try getting a massage in their special spa area open to the beautiful scenery. Hank and Wiley provide all who enter their home a warm welcome and provide amenities to keep you comfortable. Don't miss this wonderful Bed and Breakfast at Piney Hill.

Piney Hill B&B is simply the best B&B we've stayed at in 14 years of anniversary tradition. We travel all around the VA, MD, PA area every year at this time, staying in B&Bs. Hank and Wiley of Piney Hill are gracious and entertaining hosts. The antique Victorian house is wonderfully decorated in 'Treasures' from the past. The rooms are spacious and cozy at the same time. The Anniversary package was exquisite! We felt like family the second we stepped onto the porch! The views and local scenery from this hill top home are breathtaking. Close to local attractions and antiques, Hank and Wiley have it all mapped out for whatever you decide to do. Hank's breakfasts are becoming internationally known and we can't wait to sit at their table again!

This was the 2nd time my husband and I stayed at Piney Hill B&B. Piney Hill is in the perfect location just outside of town and close to many activities in the mountains of VA. Hank and Wiley were gracious hosts just as they were on our first stay. The breakfasts they serve are outstanding. We especially enjoyed the outdoor hottub on the cool fall nights. If you stay at this B & B don't forget to pack your bathing suits. This Inn is so welcoming and warmly decorated by Hank and Wiley you can't help but want to stay there again and again. We will certainly be back and will recommend this place to more friends. Hank and Wiley are wonderful hosts! We hope this B & B is around for years to come.

We took the scenic route on our anniversary roadtrip from North Carolina to Pennsylvania. Our detour off of the picturesque Skyline Drive at sunset took us to Piney Hill B&B which was like whipped cream on pumpkin pie. The ambience of the charming, restored farmhouse, with its twinkling porch lights and tastefully appointed country decor, was as warm and comforting as the jacuzzi under the stars, and our cozy room with comfortable quilted bed made for a perfectly relaxing end to a hard day's ride. Meeting the innkeepers, Wiley and Hank, was like running into a couple of old friends. Conversation was easy and interesting...even learned that Hank and I had just celebrated a shared birthday that very week. Our hosts provided interesting and useful information on the house and its amenities, where to dine that evening, and everything else we needed to know to make our stay satisfactory. They were always available, yet mindful of our privacy when it was time to wind down. In the morning, Wiley's bell signaled the beginning of a divine, gourmet breakfast, the presentation of which was as enticing as the aroma -- peach and yogurt parfait, stuffed french toast, sausage, fruit, and HOT coffee (truly a positive for me). We enjoyed our meal in the company of new friends. My quick visit to the delightful gift shop where you could purchase decorative items like those in the main house made my husband very thankful that we were on a motorcycle, with no room to spare. As anxious as we were to continue on to our ultimate destination, we truly wished we could have stayed a few more days. We will definitely go back "home" to Piney Hill and do just that.

Well, what can I say that hasn't already been said? We had two very relaxing and peaceful nights here mid September. I can't think of anything negative to say except that two nights wasn't long enough! The house and Hank & Wiley are so welcoming. Everywhere is spotless. We enjoyed relaxing on the porch in the rocking chairs with a glass of wine and the the cats at our feet. The breakfasts were an absolute feast and there are homemade cakes and cookies available all day - we took some with us on our departure and had a picnic later. Hank's pumpkin cake was delicious! I would highly recommmend this place to anyone who wants to get away from it all and have a peaceful and relaxing time. If I am ever fortunate to be in Virginia again, then I will definitely return to Piney Hill!

Piney Hill B&B is a true "Virginia Gem"! Hank Overton and Wiley Gregory have created a getaway fit for a king and queen.Their initial warm greeting at the front porch sets a positive tone for a most memorable stay. The house is somerthing right out of Country Living Magazine. Warm country furnishings, priceless antiques, vintage pictures and the smell of fresh baked goods make this B&B a must to experience. The rooms are confortable and cozy, the breakfast devine and the views of the mountains priceless. The many numerous attractions around this area make Luray, Va. a must visit destination.Thank you both for another wonderful stay.We will continue to come back for many years to come. Here's wishing your fine establishment continued success in the future.

I'm happy to join everyone else in singing the praises of Piney Hill and its hosts, Wiley and Hank. The inn is beautiful, the location is spectacular, the breakfasts are delicious, and the hosts are like old friends. We stayed for 3 nights and could easily have made it 3 weeks. They'll help you plan everything from trips to the park to vineyard tours to dinner out. Not only do the hosts have an amazing attention to detail, they welcome people into their home as if they've known them for years. There was a huge storm on our second night and the power was out until the following morning. Hank and Wiley went to great lengths to make sure the guests were comfortable and managed to pull off one of the best breakfasts of our stay following a night of very little sleep and no power. Truly remarkable. We had a fantastic time at Piney Hill and we will absolutely be back.

Piney Hill B&B was excellent! The innkeepers were wonderful and provided a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The breakfast each morning was outstanding and the attention to detail really showed. The room was very cozy and romantic. My boyfriend and I had such a wonderful weekend. We can't wait to go back! Hank and Wiley really do know how to run a great B&B. A+++++ service!!

When arriving at Piney Hill Bed and Breakfast, I was instantly impressed with whole property. It is beautiful, out of the way (but not too out of the way) and very welcoming. Hank and Wiley are the perfect hosts, they are friendly and helpful, but not at all intrusive, not to mention great cooks. The Rosebud Cottage is the perfect retreat for a romantic weekend. We felt like we were in our own world. The screened in porch was the perfect place to eat a delicious breakfast, relax and watch a passing thunderstorm while staying dry. The back patio, with its great views of the valley and mountains felt like it was in its own world, far away from everybody and everything. This is THE place to stay if you are visiting Luray, New Market or the Skyline Drive. We will be back and will be telling all of our friends to plan a trip to Piney Hill Bed and Breakfast.

I was impressed with the entire experience with Piney Hill B&B from the beginning until the end! On the day I made the reservations, I received an email to confirm everything, which was very impressive. When my husband and I arrived at Piney Hill B&B we felt relaxed. Wiley and Hank were the perfect hosts who went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. They gave us directions on how to get to places, gave suggestions on where to eat, and even offered to make dinner reservations. The breakfast that they served each morning was absolutely wonderful. In fact, I enjoyed the breakfast over the lunch and dinners we had in town during our entire stay. I could go on and on about this wonderful little treasure tucked away in the countryside, but words just can't describe the experience we had.

Our first stay at a B & B. We are spoiled. Don't think another can be as great. A beautiful, country themed, well decorated, and immaculately maintained farm house and cottage. The hosts, Wiley and Hank, pull out all stops to make your stay comfortable and are quite helpful in giving detailed travel guidance around the Luray area. The food, cooked fresh, is over plentiful and delicious. There are beautiful views of the surrounding farms and mountains. Lends itself to rest, recuperation, reflection and plenty of antique and collectible shopping.

If your first B&B experience is at the Piney Hill B&B all others will be a let down. Piney Hill sets the standard for what a B&B should be. From the comfortable beds to the beautifully decorated rooms to the lovely grounds every thing is perfect. And don’t forget the breakfast, it is to die for. The difference is the innkeepers, their attention to every detail and guest needs was beyond expectation. We highly recommend a stay here

As soon as we stepped out of our car at Piney Hill B&B a sense of peace and tranquility surrounded us. Our weekend stay in the Rosebud Cottage was so relaxing. The beauty of the Shenandoah Valley was visible in every direction and the views of the nearby mountains were wonderful. Our hosts, Wiley and Hank, were warm and caring, with the most genuine desire to not only meet, but exceed our expectations. Their recommendations for everything from areas to hike to restaurants to try were right on target. The hearty breakfasts rated "10" stars. Don't miss the opportunity to spend some time at this B&B. Hank and Wiley will make you feel right at home from the moment you arrive!

The Piney Hill B&B is a wonderful, realxing get-away. The innkeepers, Wiley and Hank, are very friendly and happy to help you get to know the Luray, Virginia area, but they are not overbearing and will leave you alone if you don't want to be social. The breakfast was delicious and cooked with our dietary requests and taste preferences in mind. The hot tub out back is a wonderful way to end a summer evening with views of the mountains in all directions. If you want to visit the Luray area, I would definitely recommend a stay at the Piney Hill B&B.

I found Piney Hill after an extensive internet search. I was looking for a quiet and romantic place to stay for my honeymoon and saw that Piney Hill was rated in the Top 10 B&B's in the country. This place is just gorgeous. We stayed in the Rosebud Cottage and it truly doesn't get any better than that. Hank & Wiley greeted us with big smiles. They help us unload the car, which was greatly appreciated. When we walked into the Rosebud Cottage,it was so roomy and beautiful! Hank and Wiley had a lovely wedding card waiting for us. We stayed three nights in the Rosebud and we did not want to leave. I could honestly live there. It couldn't have been more quiet, romantic and relaxing. The views in every direction are amazing, and we really enjoyed the farm cats that visited us every morning. My favorite part of the cottage was the screened porch with the beautiful wicker furniture. A fabulous, home-cooked breakfast was brought to us in a lovely picnic basket every morning, and we could eat it at our leisure. We didn't even have to be awake when they delivered it! We also loved the huge Jacuzzi in the garden under a beautiful willow tree - we had it all to ourselves each time we used it. The landscaping surrounding the property should be featured in a gardening magazine. You could eat off the floors in the Rosebud Cottage - it was that clean. It was decorated very tastefully. Hank and Wiley never bothered us during our stay and respected our privacy, but they were so very gracious when we did approach them with questions about the area. It was absolutely perfect. We would recommend Piney Hill to anyone and everyone without an ounce of hesitation. We hope to return in the future to relive the wonderful memories that were made there. Thank you, Hank and Wiley, for an unforgettable stay. You have set the bar for romantic getaways. :0)

I just got back from an amazing week long trek through Virginia. In the middle of the trip, we stayed at Piney Hill for two nights. It was a pleasure. I went for relaxation and fun, and I tell you what - it was just what I needed. Away from the city, in the rolling countryside of the Shenandoah Valley, Piney Hill was a refuge from the hustle and bustle of my mundane life. The innkeepers, Hank and Wiley, were the most cordial hosts and they treated everyone they met with charm and grace. The building is a centuries old farm house that has been renovated to show just how wonderful these old dwellings really were. The views of the valley are phenomenal, and as you can see from my pictures, both the sunrises and sunsets will take your breath away. The beauty of the land, the relaxing ambiance and the wonderfully friendly hosts left me wanting for more. In fact, I am sipping a refreshing iced tea as I write . . . a reminder of my time at Piney Hill.

When my husband and I arrived there we originally felt that is was too isolated, BUT we were wrong. It is only 5 minutes from town. We had the best of both worlds. Peace and relaxation in the mountains yet only 5 min from town when we felt like socializing. The B & B is decorated so lovely , the breakfasts were great (I kept asking for their recipies) , Hank & Wiley are so helpful with exact directions and they are so friendly. They made you feel like you were at a family member's home. They cater to your every need and are so detailed in their care of you. Ex. Hank noticed I kept scraping the icing off my muffin so he took it upon himself to serve my muffin without icing for the rest of my stay. Their home is immaculate. I plan on returning with my sisters as they can't wait to experience it for themselves. Now every B & B I visit must meet my expections of what my husband and I experienced at Piney Hill. Thanks Hank & Wiley for making our stay perfect!! You guys are great!

o say that Wiley & Hank run a "nice place" is to say that the Grand Canyon is "a big, interesting hole." What an understatement! The idyllic scenery, the clean air, the food ... oh, the food! It was great to wake up to a home-cooked breakfast that tasted like something prepared by a Food Network chef. Some might not like the lack of Internet access and to them I say, "Your email will still be there when you get home." For my wife and myself, being able to "turn off, tune out, drop everything" (to appropriately misquote) was the best form of relaxation we've had in more than a year. Wiley and Hank are the most amazing hosts, full of great stories and even greater hospitality. Head to Piney Hill, enjoy the view and jump in the Jacuzzi. You won't want to leave.

In a word, fabulous! We have stayed in B&Bs up and down the east coast, and none have surpassed Piney Hill for its personal attention to detail. The Inn is well concealed on a hilltop with an incredible view from the hot tub, which happens to be amid a beautiful garden lovingly tended to by Hank and Wiley. We really lucked out with perfect weather for the end of June, with no pesky insects and cool nights to boot. Our romantic weekend package came complete with a dozen perfect red roses in a lovely room with an electric fireplace that created ambience without emitting any heat. Our personal frig was stocked with cheese and crackers and chocolate covered strawberries...the largest and sweetest we ever had! Every space in every room had something charming and tastefully placed. Our hosts were most gracious about sharing their recipes. Not only was the food absolutely scrumptious...it was a work of art on the plates. Their recommendations for lunch and dinner included Moments to Remember and the Artisian Grill. We went to both over our weekend and were not disappointed. We wholeheartedly recommend Piney Hill B&B to any and all who plan to see Luray Caverns or who, like us, just enjoy B&Bs that are off the beaten path.

Synopsis: An excellent stay with excellent hosts. What a wonderful time! We arrived at Piney Hill B&B not really knowing what to expect. I received a preliminary email from Wiley asking us some questions. When we arrived, Wiley and Hank set us up in a room that was in the upper corner of the B&B. It is a nice shade of yellow, and has two windows overlooking the great Shenandoah Valley. The bed was confortable and easy to sleep in, and the room had it's own bathroom. Hank and Wiley set us up with a cheese and cracker plate and a scrumpsous yellow cake (I believe that all of this was included in our package). What can I say, it was excellent. After we were settled in Hank and Wiley went over the dining establishments in Luray, and when we decided, Wiley called and made reservations for us to dine that evening. When we got back from eating, they had turned the covers down on the bed and placed Dove Chocolates for us! It was really too much! Breakfast in the morning was absolutely wonderful. Since my wife and I are not coffee drinkers, they provided us with hot chocolate and OJ, along with an absolute exquisite meal. What a great way to start the day. Sitting with the other guests that joined us, we had a great conversation. Just absolutely perfect. I couldn't have asked for anything better. Above the doorway going to the kitchen reads a sign "Come as Strangers, Leave as Friends!" How true this is! We plan on visiting our new freinds, Wiley and Hank, again!

Do you know the sight of the clouds over the mountains? Do you know the sound of the birds in the morning? Do you know the joy of laughter, the comfort of friends, the feeling of peace? Then you know Piney Hill because it is all these things and more. It is the most wonderful place to go and just relax. When I need time away, I always call Hank and Wiley and ask for the Rosebud Cottage. I love the Rosebud Cottage. Hank and Wiley deliver breakfast to the cottage and I always have breakfast on the screened porch so that I can enjoy the morning. Hank and Wiley are wonderful. They treat all their guests like royalty. They make every stay a special event. Piney Hill is a small piece of heaven. I've stayed in a number of other B&Bs but none of them comes even close to being the wonderful place that Piney Hill is.
