About

Welcome to the Orchard House Bed & Breakfast! Our 14 acre historical property includes a one-acre vineyard, a pond with a fountain, a gazebo, a new in-ground salt water swimming pool, a new gas firepit overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains, hammocks, multiple Adirondack chairs scattered around the sprawling front lawn, two separate homes for guests, and our newly renovated event barn. Built in 1874 by a Virginia state judge, our main house has six bedrooms (each with a private bath), and multiple common areas for your relaxation and breakfast dining. The Farmhouse was added in 1910 as the apple orchard manager’s family home. It has 3 bedrooms, (each with private baths), and access to a shared large kitchen that we keep fully equipped should you choose to cook additional meals. Regardless of which house you choose, you will be treated to a homemade, multi-course breakfast served each morning in our main house dining room. We take great pride in supporting local farmers, serving coffee from our local coffee beanery, and making our muffins and breads from scratch. We want each one of our guests to feel like they are “home”, only better!

Perfect end to a long day.

We were in Charlottesville on business and wanted to stay at a B&B to relax and enjoy the weekend. We found Orchard House on line and called and spoke to Deb. What a lucky call for us. Deb and Mike could not have been more accommodating. What a lovely place to relax and enjoy. The room was meticulously done and so comfortable. Breakfast was outstanding. We will go back again and again. Great B&B and wonderful owners. Can't wait to see you both again. Will recommend Orchard House to everyone we know. Harry and Christine Chilcot.

Innkeeper Response
Your impromptu call was definitely "meant to be"! We both enjoyed meeting you so much, it was fun to talk everything "vines" to "working with your spouse". You two were amazing guests, and we can't wait for your return! Thanks so much for your wonderful review!!

Summer fun

5 on August 30, 2017

I thoroughly enjoyed my week in Virginia. From the wine tasting tour guided by Mike to dining and sightseeing in Charlottesville and cycling to the nearby music festival then cooling off in the pool at the Orchard House. Deb and Mike have made our two visits so far feel like a friends house with great breakfast. The only hard part is leaving at the end of our stay! Thanks again Dean

Innkeeper Response
We were so sad to say goodbye to you and Martha, Dean! We just love having you here and appreciate your kind words. Can't wait for your next visit, please come back soon!

Wonderful experience, great weekend

We recently spent a weekend at Orchard House, and it was wonderful. The rooms were beautifully decorated, the Inn is very comfortable and welcoming. They had wonderful amenities, Mike and Deb were amazing hosts. They've worked with local businesses to develop a "VIP" program for their guests, and they went out of their way to be helpful and assist us in having a great weekend! The breakfasts and afternoon goodies were good, and the atmosphere was really lovely. Would definitely stay again.

Innkeeper Response
Thanks so much for your great feedback! We are especially happy you enjoyed our Nelson County VIP card and all the great establishments that participate on it! So happy you would definitely stay again, please come back soon!

A nice relaxing and beautiful site. Good location for visits to wineries and breweries in the area. Good local hiking and within a day trip distance to Montecello and Charlottesville.

Picture Perfect

My wife and I recently spent two nights at Orchard House while passing through Virginia. Orchard House is located between Lynchburg and Charlottesville in beautiful Lovington, VA. This B&B came highly recommended by several people we know, so we felt fortunate to be able to get a very nice room on short notice. To do justice to describing this property would require far too many paragraphs. I will simply say, my wife and I were so impressed by this home, it's decore and the entire property. The owners of Orchard House have done such a nice job of making their guests feel at home. From the warm welcome you receive upon arrival, to the over-the-top breakfast each morning. I would be remiss if I didn't also make note of the warm cookies that mysteriously appear in the sitting room as you enter the home in the evening. We could not have asked for nicer accommodations for our stay in Virginia. I will add, Lovington, VA is located in Nelson County, best know for its vineyards, craft breweries and independently owned distilleries. In addition, Nelson County is filled with gorgeous and challenging hiking trails. The Blue Ridge Mountains are all around and make for a stunning view as you relax around the fire pit in the evening at Orchard House. I can't recommend this B&B enough!

Innkeeper Response
WOW! Thank you for such a wonderful and descriptive review! We greatly appreciate your kind words, and we are so happy that our efforts to update our home and property were noticed and welcoming. We certainly enjoyed your visit very much, and so hope you will return again soon!

A Fabulous Find

5 on August 01, 2017

The mountain views were lovely, as was the vineyard, beautiful historic home, and furnishings. Our wonderful hosts were one of the main reasons we came back. Last, but not least, we have stayed at many bed and breakfasts , but the gourmet breakfast we had here was by far the best.

Innkeeper Response
Nothing makes us happier than happy return guests! Thank you again for coming back. We especially love hearing positive feedback about our breakfasts, as we put a lot of heart (and local goods!) into the preparations. Please come back soon!

Great place to stay. Had a very relaxing front porch with great view. Beer, wine & whiskey tours were such fun & exceptionally educational.

Innkeeper Response
We're so glad you enjoyed some of our favorite things while you visited! It's hard to beat the peaceful front porch experience, except maybe with some time poolside! Thanks for taking the time to provide a review, we appreciate your feedback!

All-around wonderful experience

5 on July 17, 2017

I stayed at the Orchard House Bed & Breakfast with my girlfriend for a quick weekend getaway. I found the B&B by pure happenstance on Google and I could not have been more pleased with the establishment. The grounds are beautiful, the service from Michael and Deb Verplank was friendly and welcoming, and the room was gorgeous and well-supplied. It's a wonderful home-base as you tour local breweries, wineries, distilleries and cideries. We will definitely be returning.

Innkeeper Response
We were so happy to learn that your first time at a B & B was such a positive experience! We look forward to your return asap; as you know, there are many more breweries, wineries, distilleries, and cideries for you to explore!

Beautiful Scenery

5 on July 05, 2017

What a wonderful experience we had staying here. The inn and surrounding area is absolutely gorgeous. Our innkeepers were gracious and made us feel right at home. The breakfasts served were delicious and filling. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch and watching the many rabbits play and eat clover. I think we counted 14 one day. We will definitely make a return trip to this fabulous inn.

Innkeeper Response
Thanks so much for sharing with us that you had a wonderful experience! That is why we enjoy this new gig immensely! I am also happy to report that our bunnies are still scampering happily all around the property. In just the last few days, we have added a plethora of beautiful butterflies to the nature scene! Can't wait for your return trip!

Wonderful first visit!

5 on July 03, 2017

We felt welcomed from the moment we arrived until we sadly had to leave. Deb and Mike not only ensured that our stay in the B&B was pleasant, but they also gave us helpful information so that we could enjoy the surrounding area. The salt water pool was FANTASTIC! The food was absolutely wonderful, coming from local farms and businesses. The rooms in the main house were elegantly furnished and comfortable. We've stayed in 4 B&Bs in 3 New England and Mid-Atlantic states over the last year...this one was the best.

Innkeeper Response
Thank you so much for this wonderful review! We were so happy that you enjoyed your time here...and we are so thrilled you rated us amongst "one of the best"! Hope you can return soon!
