Very sad to see the Stonewall Jackson Inn has closed

5 on February 10, 2018

After staying at the Inn for many years and enjoying the hospitality of Inn owner Dr, Wayne Engles, they have announced that they are closing. Hopefully, they will reopen soon. This is a fabulous place to stay if you are a history buff or just have kids attending JMU. Best of luck Wayne! Steve and Sara

Staying at the Stonewall Jackson Inn Bed and Breakfast was fabulous! There's definitely history within these walls! Wayne, Cliff and Diane were very polite and welcoming. The suite we stayed in, fantastic; we loved it! The room was very clean, linens and towels were top notch and the king size bed, heavenly! Loved sitting on the patio, in the early morning, it’s a delightful outdoor setting, and being served breakfast! Each meal was different, the food was beautifully presented, as well as delicious; top marks for the Chief! Would we visit again, absolutely!!

Second visit as delightful as the first!

I've stayed here twice, and the second time I brought my daughter and granddaughter. Of course, they loved it, for wonderful reasons: the elegant rooms, the comfort, the delightful atmosphere, the people--and, of course, the fantastic breakfasts. If you are going to be in the Harrisonburg area, it's the only place to consider for an overnight (or longer) stay.

Girls' Getaway

5 on August 29, 2017

My husband arranged for a friend to meet me at the Bed and Breakfast for a birthday girls getaway. The staff is kind and welcoming, and accommodating to my early check-in. There were cookies and an offer of wine. We stayed in the Belle Boyd Room. The beds were super comfortable, and the room nice and dark even into the morning time. However, we were right next to the kitchen and breakfast prep begins early! I had hoped to sleep in as I have three little ones who routinely wake me early, but the noise from the kitchen woke me early both days. A few felt pads on those cabinets, and it should be good to go! The breakfasts were delicious, the coffee nice and strong. The atmosphere is WONDERFUL. We really enjoyed dining outside right next to the morning glories. There were eve little treats left in our room during the afternoon. Really, the Stone Wall Jackson Inn is everything a bed and breakfast should be.

2 different room - same awesome experience

Hi to Wayne, Diane, Cliff and Marjorie (sorry James, did not get to meet you) - What can I say that has not been said already? Stayed in the Bella Boyd room and the William Sherman Rooms with my traveling gal pal. Both of these rooms had two beds and an in suite shower. Love the story of Isabella Boyd. Such a feisty young woman. Everyone is very knowledgeable about the area and that is saying a lot since 3 of the 4 people we met are relatively new to the Inn. Diane, thank you for checking us in the first night and being the first person to greet us. First impressions make all the difference. Marjorie, thank you for giving us the opportunity to "peek" into the rooms and checking us in the second night. Cliff, your breakfast was tremendous of eggs benedict. Never had them before and now any time I have them again, they will be compared to yours and you set the bar pretty high. Wayne, congrats on hiring such good people to be your second set of hands and for having such a wonderful Inn. Also thank you for giving those books a second chance (some books a first chance) to be read. To anyone who stays here - be forewarned that you are in for a awesome experience. Keep up the great work. Beth B

Great night after dropping off new student at JMU!

This was a wonderful stay. It is walking distance from downtown restaurants. It is also close to JMU. The staff was very friendly from the time we entered the house until we left the next morning. The breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed the eating outside on the deck. Our bedroom was so comfortable. We plan to stay again in the future.

Wonderful place to stay!

My daughter and I stayed at the Stonewall Jackson Inn on a recent trip to the Shenandoah National Park and we fell in love with the Inn. The staff was warm and welcoming, the room charming, the beds so comfortable, and the breakfasts were amazing! The Inn is in walking distance of Harrisonburg and we ate dinner at wonderful local restaurants. My daughter and I agree we would stay at the Inn and again and highly recommmend it.

Even "Stonewall" would smile at this B&B!

This was an absolutely wonderful B&B. The room was great (we stayed in the George Pickett room). The staff was wonderful. And breakfast - wow, what can I say. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is also situated a very short walk to historic downtown Harrisonburg. Who would have thought that there would be so many coffee shops. While we didn't dine at any of the local establishments, there were many in the area. A little further walk and you are on the campus of James Madison University. I highly recommend this beautiful B&B. Oh, one more thing: you may find this hard to believe, but the rooms are named after Civil War generals. The rooms on the south side of the house are named after Confederate Generals (like Pickett, Lee, Jackson, and Stuart) and the rooms on the north side are named after Union Generals (like Grant, Sherman, Sheridan and Chamberlain). And the ghost is very friendly. (OK, we didn't actually SEE the ghost, but we heard there is one).

Wonderfull getaway

My wife and I had a wonderful time at the Stonewall Jackson Inn! Our room was spacious and very welcoming. Very Relaxing. The breakfasts were top notch-very much deserving of the phrase "A breakfast to remember". We would definitely stay again. Thank you Terri and Roger!

A must-stay B&B in Harrisonburg!

We really enjoyed our stay at The Stonewall Jackson Inn. The hosts were very welcoming and friendly and the entire house was comfortable and quaint. We were greeted right away and they offered to accommodate for any special needs and dietary requests. Breakfast was homemade and delicious. We used the living room to hang out and play cards and they offered us drinks and chocolate cake (homemade). It was like a home, we were given everything we needed to be comfortable and happy.
