Make the Mad River Valley's most charming bed & breakfast your home away from home. The 1824 House features intimate & comfortable lodging in true Vermont style. We are located just minutes from Vermont's best skiing, including Sugarbush Resort and the famous Mad River Glen. We are only 6 minutes from the town of Waitsfield with shopping, coffee shops, farmer’s markets, grocery stores & restaurants. Traveling on scenic Rt 100, it's just a short distance to Waterbury, Stowe and other great towns. The 1824 House has 8 guest rooms, each with a private en suite bathroom, free WiFi, air conditioning, and either a king or queen featherbed. Two of the rooms also have an additional twin trundle bed. In total, the inn can accommodate 16-18 guests. Common areas inside the inn include a sitting room with a wood-burning fireplace, a dining room (also with a wood-burning fireplace) and sunny breakfast room with seating for 16, fully appointed kitchen, and separate TV room. Outside you will find a great sledding hill and fire pit. If you are staying with us in the summer, be sure to check out the Mad River swimming hole! The inn and grounds are also dog friendly. Sleds, firewood, and beach towels are available so you can enjoy everything the inn has to offer. The Mad River Valley offers spectacular recreational opportunities in all seasons. Hiking, down-hill and cross country skiing, tourist attractions and foliage 'peeping' are just a few of the options.

Amazing B&B experience. The room was lovely and quite clean. The breakfast was really delicious. Kathleen the housekeeper was really nice and welcoming. Great visit--would definitely recommend to anyone looking to stay in VT!

Very cute inn. The sister who was filling in for the owner was outstanding as a host. My only issue is that these homes are not built for the heat and humidity that has now invaded the northeast summers so many are forced to put in window a/c units and the window air units allow the outside in as they are not a perfect fir for the old windows. It was not a huge deal but my daughter made a comment that we would have had less bugs if we had been camping and had screens on the windows and doors. It wasn't horrible but some may find moths and grasshoppers not great room mates. The breakfast was more than enough to get us on our way.

1824 House Inn sits on a lovely, rustic spot with abundant flowers and the classic mountainous VT views. It is a 15-minute drive from Waterbury, where we were able to easily find restaurants for mid/late evening dining. The Inn has all the charm of an historic farm house, yet is also comfortable with well-appointed rooms. Check-in was easy and flexible, breakfast was delicious and nicely presented. Our room was small, but well-priced and completely adequate. Would definitely stay again.

The Innkeeper, Kathy made delicious breakfasts for us. I have celiac disease and follow a gluten free diet. The second day that we were there, she made delicious, fluffy gluten free pancakes. She also gave us good advice on where to hike.

Wonderful step back in time as you wonder through this old farmhouse. Fun to hear a little of its history. The grounds were beautiful and relaxing to wonder around enjoying the sun and flowers. The innkeeper had a lot of suggestions on places to see and local places to eat. The breakfast was great - even got a recipe to take home!!!! The bed was comfortable and the linens and towels were good quality (a big thing for me). We really enjoyed our stay.

We just returned from a weekend at the 1824 House and we loved everything about it. The Inn Keepers are so gracious and generous. The inn itself is spotless and beautiful. Our room had a simple elegance that was just perfect. We were treated to mouth-watering breakfasts - maple scones, farm fresh eggs and bacon, and scrumptious pumpkin pancakes. After a day of skiing we were greeted with homemade chocolate chip cookies that we enjoyed relaxing in the living room in front of a roaring fire. We will definitely be back!

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our 3-night stay at this delightful B&B. The room was cozy and comfortable (with a down comforter fluffed every night!). The whole inn was lovely - well decorated with antiques, very clean, with large common spaces and a guest fridge. It felt like I was staying at a friend's home, who is also an excellent cook and decorator, and even has warm cookies waiting for you when you arrive. Which brings me to Emily, the innkeeper. She is absolutely wonderful - accommodating, friendly, helpful, and INCREDIBLY thoughtful. She's an excellent cook as well, her breakfasts are delicious. The grounds of the inn are really beautiful, too, with great views. There is a terrific barn on the property that Emily uses to host catered events. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Visited for a wedding & were so pleased. Gorgeous property, comfy rooms & great innkeeper. We won't go anywhere else when we return to Vermont.

We stay at a lot of B&Bs, and never have we felt so comfortable. We spent time in the beautiful living room chatting with the young, funny, and delightful innkeeper. The road noise in the A.M. was the only drawback.

If you're staying in the Mad Valley, you really must stay at the 1824 house. We recently stayed two nights at the 1824 House, and our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. The young innkeeper, Emily, welcomed us with fresh baked cookies and a cheerful smile. The room was tastefully appointed (unlike many places, it didn't feel like Grandma's house), quiet, and clean. We at dinner both nights at the on-site restaurant, The Barn Door. If you stay here, you have to eat here (the steak is amazing). Emily's breakfasts were as good as The Barn Door's dinners. She was also very responsive to our dietary restrictions. We couldn't have been more pleased!
A first floor room with king bed, outdoor patio, seating area, and a spacious private bath with tub and shower. This room benefits from radiant heating and a guest-controlled thermostat. Caledonia is one of our two pet friendly rooms and is great for the medium to large breed.
A first floor room with a queen bed and a private bath with tub and shower. The absence of steps make this room an excellent choice for guests with mobility challenges. Windham is one of our two pet friendly rooms and is best for petite breeds.
