A Great Get-away! Don't miss this place!

5 on October 05, 2017

My wife and I went to Iris Inn just to escape the city for a was wonderful. The staff is soooo wonderful that it defies words. Check-in/out was a breeze, the meals were delightful/delicious, and all of our questions were answered. They gave great suggestions for things to do and made sure that we had maps and all of the info that we needed to really enjoy ourselves. There were plenty of things to do, but we could also have a great time doing nothing at all! DEFINITELY do the in-room couples of the BEST we have ever had!! Thanks for a GREAT vacation!!

Perfect Getaway!

My husband and I recently stayed at the Iris Inn for our 20th wedding anniversary. We were very pleased with everything from the location, to the rooms, to the service. The location is perfect - right off the highway, but when you are there, it feels very secluded. Deana and Kerry were wonderful hostesses, and made us feel very welcome. The made to order breakfast was excellent! This was definitely one of the nicest places we have ever stayed and we can't wait to come back!

Innkeeper Response
Thank you very much for your kind words about the Iris Inn! It definitely is convenient being tucked away on the mountain side, and still having so many activities & destinations at our fingertips (via I-64). Our Chef will be delighted you thought so highly of breakfast. With a monthly changing menu, you'll get to try all new options during your return trip! We hope to see you again soon. Love, The Iris Inn team

Respite before moving to a new home in the Waynesboro area

After closing on home on July 31 with all the activity leading up to it, the two night stay at the Iris Inn gave me an opportunity to take a breath. I felt truly taken care of by the staff. The environment coaxed me to slow down and appreciate the moments leading up to the impending move with an eye to the possibilities of the future. This stay was a true gift to myself and the therapeutic effect for my mind and body was as I had hoped.

Loved the Iris Inn

Would stay here again, so happy we chose to stay here. Was clean, comfortable, cozy, relaxing, spacious inside and outside. Wonderful setting, views are amazing, location is good for travel to nearby attractions!

Great first stay at the Iris Inn

5 on March 20, 2017

My boyfriend and I stayed here for our 5 year anniversary over the weekend. We had a slight problem the first night with one of the rooms, but the staff took care of it immediately and were so warm and attentive to our concerns that they more than made up for it. The Inn itself is so cozy and perched on a perfect location where no trees block your view of the beautiful valley and mountains. We had a great time exploring the area, but also just hanging out at the lovely Inn. Breakfast every morning was delicious, and there was coffee, tea, cookies, and fruit in the lobby at all times. Staff gave us great recs for places to go and things to do. All in all, we had a great stay and will absolutely be back!

LOVE this place!

I can't say enough good things about Iris Inn. The customer service was outstanding! The food was delicious-- from the pancakes to the locally made orange juice. The room was clean and the view was just amazing. This was a late Valentine's Day surprise for my husband. I'm so glad he loved it too!

Convenient getaway from Washington, DC

5 on January 09, 2017

Just a few hours drive from Washington, DC, the Iris Inn provides a rural, country, mountain feel while still having being close to everything you need. We stayed 2 weekday nights in the winter and it was peaceful and not at all busy, though I believe the Inn was full. While on our stay, we took scenic and challenging hikes in the George Washington Forest and in Shenandoah National Park both off the Blue Ridge Trail. The growing "151 Trail" for breweries, cideries and distilleries is unmatched in this area. You won't find many fine dining restaurants in the area unless you want to drive into Stanton or Charlottesville, but there are plenty of restaurants around, regardless. Breakfast at the Inn was great. Unrushed and tasty, you won't leave hungry. We also appreciated the mini-fridge in our room stocked daily with water bottles and soda. We hope to return back someday and this time stay in the cabins!

A fabulous Bed and Breakfast

We love the Iris Inn! We just returned from our first visit and we can't wait to return! Everything was perfect, and the service was first rate! The breakfast was terrific! We had no idea of what to expect, and we were blown away! Many thanks to the owners and staff for making our stay so wonderful.

Best Inn Ever

Can't recommend this place enough. Heidi and Dave are extremely sweet and helpful and the staff was excellent. The made what they do look effortless although I know it was not. We stayed in the main house. Our room was nice and clean. Breakfast in the house was delicious. The house itself was charming and I heard the cottages were even nicer. The view of the whole Shenandoah valley was unbelievable. They provided great itineraries and suggestions for activities and meals. They book up so far in advance and it is completely understandable. We'll be back for sure.

A True Getaway

5 on August 29, 2016

My husand and I had the best 3 night getaway ever at the Iris Inn! From the moment we drove up the driveway after a long 6 hour ride, we were in love with the place!! How cool to walk into an Inn and have someone greeting you who hands you the key and you have to do nothing else!! The Wildflower Room is magnificent!!! We so enjoyed sitting on the porch and taking in the view!!! Dave and Heidi and all the staff are wonderful!!! Clearly excellent customer service is the priority! The breakfast each day was "out of this world" good!! I had the best omlet ever!! (And I am not exaggerating!!!! I mean it!) Each day we ventured out and had a wonderful time either driving through the mountains or going into Charlottesville and returning to the Inn for a glass of wine and good company !!!! I do not think I have ever said that a vacation was perfect until now!!! The Iris Inn experience is beyond expectations!!!!!

A tranquil getaway

5 on August 06, 2016

Our stay at the Iris Inn was one of the most relaxing things I've ever experienced. The cabins are like having your own little vacation home (with the added bonus of the delicious breakfast each morning). We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay!

Stress-free, Pampering, Serene

Wonderful 3-day stay in this lovely B&B. The Deer room was comfy, spacious & clean. Lots of common areas inside and out of the main building to enjoy all the sights and sounds this fantastic woodland setting has to offer. Attentive, gracious owners and staff who are genuinely friendly and helpful. The many delicious choices on the breakfast menu started every day with happiness. Wine & beer tasting in the evenings was a great time to meet the other guests & share experiences. An all-adult clientele allowed for a calm, enjoyable, replenishing stay. This B&B deserves every award it gets!!

Unique & enjoyable experience!

5 on June 03, 2016

Great experience. All of the staff were very pleasant and helpful. The Hawk's Nest was comfortable with great amenities. The large shower and heated bathroom floor were nice touches. Breakfast was delicious and the staff accomodated our gluten free diet request with yummy alternatives. The restaurant the staff recommended was great. Beautiful setting and warm service. We'll be back!

Innkeeper Response
Thank you for sharing your experience. The Hawks Nest cottage was recently renovated to provide a comfy cozy suite. It sounds like it met your needs. We appreciate your kind compliments on our accommodation, staff and breakfast meals. We look forward to having you back!

Mini Honeymoon!

5 on April 14, 2016

We came to the Iris Inn for our mini honeymoon! It was a dream to get there and relax on the porch swings after the whirlwind of our wedding weekend. The view was so amazing and peaceful, we opted to order food in on the second night, specifically to enjoy dinner on the porch! The breakfast was simply delicious and not too early. We also got to enjoy some wine tasting each evening in the main room. All of the staff were friendly and caring and had good advice on local restaurants and activities. We stayed in the Wildflower room, which was spacious, very comfortable and had big windows to showcase the view. I enjoyed looking at all the different artwork hung throughout the inn which enhanced the peaceful atmosphere even more! All in all, we were extremely happy with our stay and we are eyeing the cabins (or the Wilflower Room again!) for future visits!!

Innkeeper Response
Thank you for your very nice comments. Not all newlyweds are able to jump right into a major honeymoon. So when a mini-honeymoon is needed, we feel we have the perfect environment. We are pleased your expectations were met and that you were extremely happy with your stay. Congratulations to you both and please do come see us again!

Spur of the moment getaway

4.8 on April 13, 2016

Needed a quick retreat after family pet loss, husband saw on internet and so glad we took a chance to get a room. Glenn was very accommodating. He was serving wine to his guests and invited us to join Steve and Michelle who were visiting Virginia from London. The conversation was fun and informative and helped distract us from our loss for a short period. Lovely place and views and will plan to revisit again with friends during happier times. Thanks to all. Allison and Jim

Innkeeper Response
It sounds like the timing of your visit to the inn was perfect for you and great for us! We want all of our guests to feel right at home. The conversations we had were most enjoyable. I am happy to hear your visit was very positive and hope to see you again someday!

We just returned from a week long stay at the beautiful Iris Inn. We stayed in one of the cabins which was perfect and had all the amenities you could think of and more. You receive a hot breakfast every morning and they have a complimentary wine and cheese hour in the evenings too. The staff are very friendly and are always willing to answer your questions and provide recommendations on things to see and do around the area. We were sad to leave and can't wait to go back

Innkeeper Response
Thank you for your kind words and for choosing the Iris Inn for your first bed & breakfast experience. We are glad you were pleased with your cabin accommodation and interaction with staff. Our staff will be happy to know they helped make your stay special. We look forward to having you back!

Wonderful Weekend Trip

4.6 on February 16, 2016

Our stay at the Iris Inn exceeded our expectations. The room was outstanding, spacious and warm. The breakfast was great every morning and the Staff was always available to answer questions and/or assist. Finally, there was plenty to do and see in Staunton, Waynesboro, and Charlottesville. We cannot wait to return in the near future.

Innkeeper Response
Thank you for taking the time to write. We are happy your stay with us exceeded your expectations, something we strive for with our guests. I shall share your compliments with staff and we hope you will visit our area again someday.

Wonderful long getaway weekend! The Iris Inn thought of everything! Didn't have worry about nothing. The breakfast were delicious! The staff were very helpful and ready to answer any questions you had! The room was perfect. I will be going back!

Iris Inn

5 on October 28, 2015

Ok so it doesn't get any better than the Iris Inn--From Dave and Heidi ( innkeepers) to the beautiful rooms, all the little details and the super breakfast! First class all the way! Not to mention some dog-friendly rooms--amazing views-- I could go on and on. So book your reservations and enjoy a real treat. And while you are there take a wonderful horseback ride thru the woods with Rebels Run. stables. You can book them at the same time you book your reservations at the Inn.

Amazing time! Can't wait to go back!

5 on October 25, 2015

My fiance and I are on our way home right now from a weekend here. We rented a cabin and had an amazing time. In fact, we got engaged while we were here! Dave, Heidi, and all the staff are amazing! Friendly, personable, helpful, and genuine. Great people. There are rooms, cottages, and cabins. For a romantic getaway, I highly recommend a cabin. It was worth every cent. Very private with all the bells and whistles of a romantic escape. This B&B is close to hiking trails, great restaurants, wineries, breweries, cideries, museums, theaters...there is something for everyone. We will definitely be back!

Lovely B & B

5 on October 19, 2015

There are not enough words to express how wonderfully relaxing this B & B is. The hosts are very good at making everyone feel at home. We were offered a selection for breakfast that covered anything you could want. There signature pumpkin pancakes were so delicious. The 5:30 social hour was a great way to meet the other guests and make new friends. We can't wait to go back.

Great Experience!

5 on October 13, 2015

We had a great stay at the Iris Inn for our anniversary! The rooms are unbelievable and very relaxing. The breakfast is top-notch and the innkeepers do a great job of making you feel comfortable. Not to mention the setting is beautiful.

What a GREAT place to unwind and just plain relax. Right on the side of the mountain with a excellent view of the valley!

A Mountainside Hideaway

4.6 on June 08, 2015

I spent some time trying to decide where to take a short weekend trip away from DC for my wife's birthday. After searching online, I decided to go with The Iris Inn. We booked one of the newer cabin rooms, and were not disappointed. The cabin was basically a spacious efficiency apartment. It featured a small kitchen area, a dining room table for two, a love seat, a king-size bed, a wonderful bathroom, and a private screened-in deck with a hot tub. My wife and I went out for dinner one night and cooked in the other. Breakfast was taken care of by the Inn, with a delicious meal both days (try to corned beef hash, if its on the menu). When we arrived, Dave was pouring free wine at his "wine bar." Dave and his wife, Heidi, were both wonderful, friendly people who clearly seem to enjoy hosting. The staff was wonderful, including Katie (Katy?), the inn dog. It was a perfect romantic weekend. If you're looking for a view of the valley, I'd recommend looking at cabin 4, and maybe 3 or 5. We were in Cabin 1, which may offer the most privacy, but is set in the trees. The view of nature (including a mother bird feeding her young in a nest built into the side of the cabin) was beautiful, but it may not be what you're expecting. In the end, it was perfect for us.

The Iris Inn...Extraordinaire

4.8 on May 31, 2015

A true Diamond Collection B&B. Dave, Glenn, and all the staff...extremely helpful, gracious, and eager to please. The entire property is exceedingly well kept and clean. Our suite: The Deep Woods Cottage...Amazing!!

Another wonderful stay

4.8 on April 22, 2015

My wife and I spent four nights in one of the cabins. This was our second stay at the Iris Inn. The cabins are wonderful and very functional. The bed and especially the sheets are special (very soft and cozy). The service is very good. The breakfast is very tasty. The happy hour with wine (and other drinks) is a nice feature. There are several good restaurants in the vicinity (Staunton, Charlottesville). The Shenandoah National Park is close by and offers a lot of good hiking trails. We are sure that we will be back.

Relaxing welcome to Spring

5 on April 21, 2015

What a wonderful place to stay. The service is exceptional, from my first phone call until we left after a 2 night stay. The rooms are spacious and quiet. This is our second stay at this location to visit a new granddaughter. The view from the front porch is exceptional. We stayed in the Duck room in the Inn, previously in a cabin both are great. Wine offered in the evening is nice. The rooms are large and spacious. The bed is so comfortable. Breakfast is delicious and plentiful. The recommendation for restaurants is great. You are close to Blue Ridge Parkway, spring is arriving with the tree's putting on their spring dresses.

Great getaway

5 on April 14, 2015

We had a great time. The cabins are really nice and have great views. Other than the internet being somewhat spotty, we enjoyed everything. It was so nice having our own hot tub with a scenic view. The breakfast was delicious as well.

Awesome getaway!

4.0 on March 27, 2015

Our children gave us 2 nights here as a Christmas gift, I was so excited, even thought my husband really doesn't like B&B's he was very comfortable here. We both were so pleased with the service we received from all of the staff. Breakfast was amazing, fireplace so inviting. Meeting other guests & making friends, good conversations & evening wine tasting was a real treat. My daughter had Choc. covered Strawberries sent to room with a great wine I had tasted there. What a great job Lara did on those "so delish" she was so friendly & helpful each evening. Glenn was such an awesome host & server for our breakfast & it was so nice of Dave to come in to great all of the guests. Can't wait for another stay!

Just Right!

5 on March 14, 2015

From location, to rooms, to pleasant innkeeper and staff, to thoughtful touches, our stay at The Iris Inn made for a very memorable weekend. With easy access from highways, and to interesting neighboring towns, once in the Iris Inn we felt that we were in a secluded mountain retreat. With a welcoming fire and wine hour, we quickly relaxed and left the rush and worries of city life behind. The staff were friendly and informative and created a comfortable ambiance. Our room, in the main building was large, spotlessly clean and made us feel pampered. The bed and bedding was superbly comfortable and the chocolates every day were a lovely touch. The tone for each day was set with a delectable, hot, freshly cooked breakfast. The area provided so much to see and do that we ran out of time and have vowed to return in every season to enjoy all that the area has to offer. What a find!

Nice winter getaway...

5 on March 03, 2015

This was our first excursion to the Iris Inn and it turned out to be an excellent experience. We stayed at the inn itself versus one of the cabins. The room was very nice with a view overlooking the valley. It was also very convenient to the afternoon wine tasting and morning breakfast. Cabins have more amenities such as kitchen facilities, fireplace and hot tub. Friends were staying in one of the cabins, so we were able to check out the accommodations there. Owners Heidi and Dave are very accommodating and go out of their way to make guests feel at home. Even if it's your first visit, they act as if they'd met you before. Breakfast in the morning is very good. Service is great and staff couldn't be nicer. Highly recommend Iris Inn if you're looking for a B&B in the Waynesboro/Staunton area. We'll be back.

Stop looking and book this place

5 on February 13, 2015

I hate BnBs. My wife loves them. She loves the quaint elegance and getting to know the staff. I hate tiny rooms and shared bathrooms. The Iris Inn is perfect. It is perfectly situated between fun towns and great hikes. The suites and cabins (we have stayed in both now) are spacious and full of amenities. My wife barely spent time outside of the hot tub. Of course there are no shared bathrooms and I don't mind making sure I'm up for breakfast, because it's amazing! The staff is so friendly as are the owners in a low-key, witty kind if way that doesn't make you feel like you're talking to your grandparents, and your privacy is assumed and protected by the staff without anyone knocking on your door all of the time. My wife gets her friendly staff and beautiful decor and I get luxurious amenities and privacy. I like the staff, too. You should really stay here.

the kind of place you don't forget

5 on February 12, 2015

I rarely write reviews. I travel often and have stayed at many hotels, resorts, b&b's and cabins. My wife and I stayed in one of the cabins and loved it. The cabins are modern, clean and excellent overall. The innkeepers/staff were very accommodating and very friendly. We had a short stay but we definitely want to return

Upscale getaway

5 on January 27, 2015

Stayed in the couples cabin #5. The cabin was everything and more! The fireplace was super warming for our winter stay and the hot tub also kept us warm in the chilly air. Makes you want to just stay in the cabin all day and not leave. Breakfast was amazing - request the peach french toast!

Wonderful stay!

5 on December 16, 2014

We spent a lovely two nights in the Deer Room at the Iris Inn. Heidi and Dave were very accommodating as well as the other staff we interacted with. Lots of fun bonuses like wine tasting in the evenings. Both breakfasts were delicious! We look forward to coming back. I recommend this Inn for anyone staying in the area---they really went above and beyond to make our stay relaxing and comfortable.

Excellent Stay

5 on December 16, 2014

This inn is a must stay. Staying in the cabins was an awesome getaway. They have everything you need and then some. The owners are very respectful and ensure you have a great visit.

Amazing Couples Retreat

5 on December 15, 2014

I cannot compare this to any other place my husband and I have stayed at. It is far from the usual bed and breakfast experience. It is unlike any stay in a five star hotel. It is truly in its own category. Not one item has been overlooked in the design. From the moment you walk into the warmly lit space, you feel relaxed. As you turn on the fireplace and sink into the comfy chairs you forget all your worries. This place is all about comfort. Windows on all three sides make you feel like you have climbed way up high into a tree house. Easy to shut blinds allows you as much or as little privacy. I loved leaving the side of the cabin that was all windows open. It felt as if I was sleeping in the trees. The hot tub and heated floors elevate the room to an entirely different level. Everything about this experience allows one to enjoy their private escape - no check in and no housekeeping. Breakfast is served in the main inn where you have the opportunity to meet the wonderful innkeepers Dave and Heidi. They have figured out how to run a B&B in today’s modern and hectic world. This was a very good choice of property with great potential that they took full advantage of. A stay at the Iris Inn is more like a weekend retreat above all else. And you are so close to so many wonderful activities – whether you want to visit breweries and wineries. See the historic sites. Or go for a hike. Dave and Heidi have created an amazing website that helps you plan it out before you arrive. And when you get there, they are able to provide further recommendations. However, regardless of all the wonderful things to do, this unto itself is the destination. I do not return to many places twice for there are so many places to see. However this truly is the exception. I look forward the next time a couple’s weekend arises and we can visit again. It will definitely be Thanksgiving 2016… I am just hoping it can be even sooner!

Relaxing stay at the Iris Inn

5 on December 08, 2014

Loved the privacy and amenities of our recent stay in Cabin 6. A very relaxing way to spend a vacation week. When we did go up to the main building for breakfast and wine tasting in the evening, every single staff member was friendly and extremely helpful. We would recommend the cabins to anyone wishing to combine the best elements of renting a house with the best elements of a resort stay.

A 5 night cabin getaway

5 on November 16, 2014

My husband and I had not vacationed for over 9 years. We stayed in Cabin 5 in October, and will be going back next year for our 30th Anniversay. It was relaxing and private. The cabin was very well appointed. We fell in love with the fireplace and hottub!

The Best Place to Stay in the Shenandoah Valley

4.6 on November 10, 2014

I went to the Iris Inn for a business conference. What I got was a week of sheer relaxation and comfort. What an amazing place. Once your hosts, Dave and Heidi welcome you, they will remember your name for the rest of the stay. For most of my stay I was in the Garden Path "cottage." It is not a cottage. It is a luxury space with plenty of room, forested views of the Shenandoah Valley, a jetted soaker tub in the room, etc. It was magnificent. I needed to move for my final night into one of the cabins, and again, what a luxurious experience. Heated floors in the bathroom, tons of windows and absolute privacy. A hot tub out on the deck and a fireplace in the main room. It was divine. Breakfast was always tasty and friendly and very accommodating. Whether you have a business conference or just a weekend to get away, the Iris Inn should be your only stop in the Shenandoah Valley!

Fantastic Getaway

3.6 on November 03, 2014

My husband and I received a bed and breakfast dot com gift card and used it at the Iris Inn. What a fabulous place to stay -- spectacular fall foliage, views overlooking the Shenandoah Valley. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable about local events and restaurants. The room was exceptionally nice. We will definitely return. Please excuse the dining score -- we were so comfortable, we slept through breakfast! The survey made us fill out the blank.

Great experience, great choice.

4.4 on October 15, 2014

10/15/2014 We stayed in the Hawk's Nest and it was perfect. The room was spacious and immaculate. The deck with the hot tub was a great bonus and we enjoyed the forest view and privacy. The views from both the front window of the room and the porches on the main building were amazing. The changing colors of the tree made this an excellent place to relish fall. Check-in was easy and managers were helpful and friendly. We highly recommend the inn and will certainly return if we have the opportunity.

Delightful Bed and Breakfast

4.8 on October 11, 2014

My husband discovered the Iris Inn while doing a web search. And we were just delighted with our stay. Dave and Heidi are welcoming and attentive. Both my husband and I eat gluten free and when I mentioned this while making our reservations they made note and we were served a delicious gluten free breakfast complete with home made blueberry muffins. They even had gluten free cookies for the afternoon. We particularly liked the very comfortable king bed as well as the luxurious bed linens. No thin towels or sheets at this establishment. We will definitley go back again and would highly recommend it to our friends.

Fabulous B&B!

5 on September 29, 2014

The Iris Inn was our first stay at a B&B. We are now spoiled! We were greeted by innkeeper Dave upon arrival. He, his wife Heidi, and the staff were so warm, welcoming, and helpful. Dave provided great recommendations for restaurants, wineries, and local attractions. The evening wine tasting was a wonderful bonus! We stayed in the Main Inn and our room was spacious and modern. The views of the Shenandoah Valley were spectacular. The breakfasts were wonderful-fresh, tasty, and beautiful. The location was so convenient to the wineries on the Monticello Wine trail. I would highly recommend the Iris Inn. Plan you stay ASAP!

Great B&B!

5 on September 28, 2014

We just stayed for the second time at the Iris Inn and once again it was a wonderful place to stay. We stayed in one of the couples cabins and it was a wonderful place to stay. Dave and Heidi are so welcoming and helpful with suggesting a wine tour company, dinner recommendations, and helping with a birthday cake. The breakfast they serve is always delicious. We will definitely be back!

Best B&B Ever

5 on September 18, 2014

Iris Inn is a jewel in the Blue Ridge Mountain area and we found it without fault. The innkeepers/owners were gracious hosts, and always available to take care of any special request or answer a question. And the breakfasts were always gourmet. If we didn't live in Texas, we'd return often.

Friendly staff. Great views!

5 on September 14, 2014

Friendly staff. Great views! My wife and I plan on making this an annual trip. The 'wine happy hour' was a nice touch and enabled us to get to know some of the other guests.

Wonderful B&B!

5 on September 08, 2014

We just returned from a great weekend with friends at the Iris Inn. The owners and staff went above and beyond to ensure our visit was perfect in every way! The Inn and rooms are very clean and well-maintained and the breakfast each day was outstanding! We couldn't have been more pleased with our stay at the Iris Inn and will definitely stay there again!!

A Perfect Getaway

5 on August 25, 2014

We have stayed at many fine inns over the years, and my husband and I agree that the Iris Inn was one of the best places we have ever visited. We stayed in one of the cabins--every detail was so perfectly thought out, the space was comfortable and luxurious and just gorgeous. The breakfast was hearty (my husband loved that he could get seconds--I was stuffed after one helping!) and the innkeepers had great suggestions for what to do on our first trip to Virginia. We hiked, visited historic sites, went to a cidery and a winery, enjoyed local restaurants, and even saw two bears (at a safe distance!). We loved the Iris Inn and we are already planning when we can get back there!

Lovely Getaway weekend

5 on July 10, 2014

Thank you so much for a lovely getaway weekend. We do LOVE coming to the Iris Inn, and we are now hooked on a minimum of two night stay. I wanted to thank you for the recommendation for our visit to Staunton yesterday morning. We loved the Farmer's market (enjoyed delicious cheddar cheese and garlic pickles with our wine picnic today AND fresh gourmet greens for our salad last night with our Crozet pizza), the Sun Spot (I have a beautiful clear teal vase with a dark blue rim, milk bottle shaped), Fretwell Base and Acoustic Instruments (wow!) and a variety of other delightful shops including the Red Beard Brewery. As much as we wanted to visit the Woodrow Wilson home and Presidential library, we opted to wait for a future colder weather visit as we simply could not bear to stay inside on a beautiful day. So it will be on our agenda for sure when we return in the winter (assuming we can WAIT until then). The couples Cabins are superb in every way...thanks again. Pamela & Mike

The BEST Bed and Breakfast

5 on June 25, 2014

We have stayed in many B and B's, through the years, but the Iris Inn was definitely the BEST. Heidi and Dave and their staff were wonderful, friendly hosts, We stayed for 2 night in June 2014. . The breakfasts were scrumptious and the evening wine gathering was a nice chance to meet with other guests. The grounds, our room (Deer Room) and the views were a wonderful respite from the hustle and bustle of the outside world! The location is very convenient to the Shenandoah National Park, wineries, and Monticello in Charlottesville. Well worth the price!!!

Perfect basecamp for the region

5 on June 23, 2014

We stayed in a cabin at the Iris Inn for two nights and three days in June. Although we weren't familiar with the area, we ended up visiting five different wineries, saw a polo match, and went horseback riding, all at the recommendation of the innkeepers Dave, Heidi, and Glen. They were as knowledgeable about the region as they were passionate, and we just felt very comfortable with their suggestions as we tried to determine which wineries would be the best fit for us. We even had a small tasting with Dave! The cabin we were staying in was beautiful, clean, and spacious with every amenity we could have hoped for. Although the days were full and interesting in the surrounding area, we were almost disappointed that we simply didn't set aside more time to relax and enjoy the view back at the inn (especially for the sunset.) We will definitely be back again, perhaps in the winter for a change of scenery. Would definitely recommend to friends and family; don't miss out on the incredible cabins!

Love this place!

5 on June 23, 2014

We stayed at the Inn for 4 nights in cabin #6. The cabin looks just like the photos on the website. Heidi and Dave really go out of their way to make sure that your stay is perfect. Every night you are invited for a glass of wine at the main part of the Inn. Breakfasts were yummy but if you want something different they are very accommodating. The Inn is close to hiking, wineries, and history. Amazon place!

An incredible Bed and Breakfest

4.6 on June 19, 2014

Britt & Debbie Hughson We just stayed at the Iris Inn this June... The rooms were beautiful and the amenities outstanding. Stayed 2 nights and wished for more. Dave and Heidi as well as the staff made us feel like part of the family and provided us with great service. We will be returning for more stays here. We can;t say enough about how much we loved staying here.

Gracious hosts

5 on June 09, 2014

We stayed at the inn as part of a wedding party. Our stay was delightful however our stay was prolonged due to car problem. Our hosts let us stay for two extra nights, in the same room, at a minimal price that we could have obtained at local hotels. We sincerely appreciated their hospitality.

Fantastic stay!

5 on June 02, 2014

We are from nearby Charlottesville, and were looking for a romantic place to stay the weekend, but still be close to home in case something came up. We have stayed in tons of B&B's all over the east coast and in the UK. This one is one of the best. We stayed in Cabin #4 (recommended by the owners as the best view) and it had every amenity you could think of: big bed, screened'in (read: bug-free) private porch with rocking chairs and private hot tub, fireplace, kitchenette with dishwasher, huge tv and reclining couch to watch it from, grill, amazing updated bathroom with rain shower, I could go on and on. The view of the sunset was incredible. The owners and staff were very kind, booked us dinner reservations and had wonderful recommendations about area attractions. Breakfast was simple, fresh, and delicious (I can't stand fru-fru B&B breakfasts that leave you still hungry). Of note, to protect guests privacy, housekeeping does not come into your room during your stay. They say that they can come bring you any needed supplies but we had plenty of towels, etc. in the room for our two-night stay. The cabins are pretty expensive but for all the amenities plus the view, we got our money's worth!

Stunning & Beautiful doesn't do justice

5 on April 27, 2014

This really was the most beautiful place to stay on our first visit to America from Scotland. The Inn itself is sympathetically and elegantly designed yet manages to have a cosy feel, this due to the friendly owners. Heidi's well thought out and scrumptious breakfasts kept us going all day and Dave's glass of wine in the evening was a nice touch. The rooms were beautiful and to sit on the balcony on swing chairs in the morning with a coffee, just relaxing was so lovely, As for the evenings, again sitting on the swings (we did too much of that and we are not a couple that relaxes much, but the Iris inn makes you!!). Just sitting dreaming, and watching the stunning sunsets over the Shendandoah Valley & Mountains that almost look photoshopped, make this such a very special place to be. We only wish we had more time. We really cannot recommend nor praise this place highly enough.

Weekend Gateway

2.6 on April 21, 2014

we have been to quite a few B&B in the area, and have heard lots good thing about this place, so we have decided to spend a weekend over there , originally we were hoping to stay at the cabin, ( which I believe it would probably be much nicer) but it was sold out at the time so we have decided to book the main building room instead, the view from the porch was beautiful, room was clean, however, we were very disappointed about the breakfast, at first, the dining room was small and can't really accommodate all the guests, and there was only one type of breakfast, meaning there was no other choice at all, although the food was fresh, but portion was really small, we were still hungry after that. if I ever going to visit this place again, surely I will book the cabin and bring my own food to cook

Room With A View

5 on April 16, 2014

Dave, Heidi, Glenn and staff, What an amazing place you have! We live in Strasburg, VA (about an hour north of you) on the North Fork of the Shenandoah River and consider our home a paradise. I wanted to take my husband on a surprise birthday adventure and when I saw the write up on your Inn in the Coop magazine, I decided to make that the place to go and we were both SOOOOO impressed and delighted with the entire experience. After hiking Humpback Rocks, we arrived tired and since I brought the fixings for dinner and champagne, we elected to get into the sumptuous robes provided by you and eat on the deck overlooking the Valley watching the sunset and then jumping into the hot tub to sooth our weary bones and eat the chocolate covered strawberries (requested by me on short notice and provided by you) and drink champagne while reviewing our delightful day! Thanks for making the birthday a very special event. Even though we have a beautiful home and view, I will definitely be back to enjoy your magnificent Couples Cabins soon and will tell all my friends about your place.

Charming Retreat

5 on April 01, 2014

We couldn't have been more happy with our stay at the Iris Inn. We were traveling to the area and had booked another B&B. After a friend STRONGLY recommended we stay at Iris Inn, we canceled our other reservation and booked at the Inn. The website with pictures of the stunning views overlooking the Shenandoah Valley was enough to convince us. We arrived to a very warm and friendly welcome from Dave, Heidi and their dog Katie. The views were even more beautiful in-person (we stayed in the Wall Flower room – it was gorgeous!) and each person we met at the Inn was friendly, welcoming and very sweet. Breakfast in the mornings was fantastic (we cleaned our plates every time!) and the wine in the evenings was a nice chance to wind down and meet other guests. We traveled to Charlottesville each day we were there (we had meetings and plans with friends) but the Inn was a very easy drive (a straight shot on 65). We would definitely recommend Iris Inn to any friends and family that are coming to the area. The room we stayed in was spacious, very well-kept, clean and nicely decorated – and had a wonderful west-facing balcony where you could enjoy the mountain air and watch the sun set in the evenings. We were very happy we ended up staying at Iris Inn!!

The Iris Inn is charming and quaint - a must if you're looking to reconnect with nature and your loved ones! Dave & Heidi, the Inn owners, are friendly and very helpful - they had great restaurant owners!

I hesitate to review..

4.8 on March 31, 2014

I hesitate to submit a review because of how great this place is... I hope it doesn't get too busy for our return visit! We stayed in one of the cabins on the hill. With two young kids (3 years old and 6 months), we were in desperate need of a getaway - even though it was only one night. The cabin is nearly perfect. Hot tub already running awaits you, a huge rain-like shower overhead (i'm tall, and it was nice not to have to duck under the shower head), a very modern bedroom/bathroom, with a gas fireplace and QUALITY windows and doors keeping outside noise out. It rained/snowed while were there, which made it scenic and comfy to be indoors and we enjoyed eveyr second of it. The downtown was close and easy to navigate and we enjoyed that as well... Breakfast in the morning was ready and waiting for us and it was a nice send off. The owners were very friendly and helpful and the best part is their guarantee that NOBODY will call or bother you at all on the trip. You're in isolation all weekend without anything around you to bother you or be in the way. We're already planning a longer trip back... and we hope they keep things as great as they already are!

5 on March 12, 2014

Every amenity you could ever wish for has been prearranged at Iris Inn by Dave, Heidi and their amazing staff. You will love every minute you are here and wish to return again and again While Waynesboro lacks charm, surrounding towns have much to offer in sights and fine dining and outdoor sport activities.

A must stay!

5 on March 10, 2014

This was mine and my husband's first time staying at a Bed and Breakfast and we couldn't have chosen a better place for our first stay! Actually, I don't think we'll be going anywhere else! We stayed in one of the couple's cabin which was comfy, personal, modern and romantic. The way it is setup is absolutely perfect. The back porch equipped with two rocking chairs and a jacuzzi looking out over the city and out to the mountains is one of the cabin's best features; especially since the only thing between the room and the porch is all glass providing a constant panoramic view of the sky and mountains. We left it opened at night so we could fall asleep under the stars and wake up to the sunlight. Amazing. The service was top notch. Heidi and Dave are friendly and accommodating. We loved chatting with them. They made us feel comfortable and made sure we were taken care of. Glen was also great. He was helpful and super informative; him and Heidi both are great with helping you figure out where to go and what to do! Breakfast was beyond our expectations. Not only was the food delicious, they offered alternatives for those like us who have diet restrictions which was a plus and it was served not self-served, which again, was unexpected. The place is very clean and it was worth every single penny we spent. In addition, we got the wine and spa package which was the perfect addition to our romantic getaway. The wine was satisfying (and local!); our picnic was of course, yummy and provided more food than we could eat and the massages by One Body were relaxing and a perfect end to our trip. Emily and Beth, our masseuses for the day, were sweet and made the massage comfortable and enjoyable. Iris Inn deserves all five stars and will always be our go to for when we're in need of a romantic getaway. We recommend it to anyone looking for a romantic getaway; even if it's only for a couple of nights.

relaxing weekend getaway

4.8 on February 24, 2014

me and my husband stayed in Cabin 3 great views, Heidi has great taste because the cabins are very well decorated. the Heated floors in the bathroom are a plus and the hot tube on the back deck was very relaxing. loved the rain shower.

Lovely vacation

4.6 on February 18, 2014

We celebrated a birthday weekend in VA wine country at The Iris Inn. The innkeeping staff are wonderful and just delightful to chat with. Our room (The Pine Room) was spacious, beautiful, well appointed, comfortable, clean and had a lovely view of the valley. Breakfast was delicious and they were very happy to accommodate my fiance's vegetarian requests. The property was lovely all around and we enjoyed the wine tasting and roaring fire in the evening. My only complaints are so minor I hesitate to call them complaints (as we definitely plan to come back again!!) - I tried to secretly order a birthday cake for my fiance (which was delivered and delicious - a very lovely surprise for him!!) but pay for it separately in advance however it was included on our final bill. Also - our room had shared wall with the next room and our bed and the next room's bed are against the same wall. My fiance and I are early risers so we go to bed early. It's... a very thin wall and that was a very amorous young couple next door. Not a thing was left to our imagination. I highly recommend getting a cabin if you are looking for some romance, privacy and quiet. Otherwise the rooms are very quiet (until then) and we felt like we were in our own little world.

Relaxing Getaway

4.8 on January 08, 2014

Innkeepers Dave and Heidi are caring and have assembled a high quality, very attentive service package that exudes top level service and comforting, modern atmosphere. We will make this a regular stayover when in Virginia Wine Country.

Worlds Away

By far the best B&B you can find anywhere. The Cabin was a perfect getaway and the staff were so helpful. We will be back again.

5 on December 20, 2013

My family and I can't say enough great things about the Iris Inn and its staff. We especially enjoyed meeting Glen, who was very informative and interesting. Our breakfasts were delicious, our accommodations were wonderful, and the charm and setting of the Inn was perfect. We've already planned to come back next December!

A Wonderful Stay!

5 on December 19, 2013

Dear Dave, Heidi, Glenn and Iris Inn Staff, We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for such a wonderful stay! You all went above and beyond to make this weekend better than we could have ever imagined. Although we though this weekend would be full of sad goodbyes, you welcomed us into your home and made this weekend unforgettable! We couldn't have asked for better company or hospitality during our last weekend together as the "JMU Ladies." It's definitely not a goodbye, but a see you later- we will be back soon! Once again, thank you all for an amazing stay and we wish you all Happy Holidays and best of luck in the New Year- Love, "The JMU Ladies". Ps. Thank you for the endless cookies, the wine, the fritattas and chili!

Family Wedding

5 on December 19, 2013

We hosted our out of town family for both the groom's and bride's side for my daughter's wedding. It could not have been more perfect. Family loved being together, the food was outstanding. Heidi even sent us the recipes following the wedding because we loved them so much. We also hosted the rehearsal dinner at the Inn, which worked out perfectly with such a personal setting. The rooms are beautifully decorated with individual themes which our guests enjoyed to the fullest. I have not stayed in a better B&B than the Iris Inn.

Absolutely Amazing

5 on December 12, 2013

This place is absolutely amazing. On our first trip, we stayed in the Wildflower, which was really spacious, well decorated, and has an amazing view of the mountains from the outdoor porch. On our second trip, we stayed in cabin #1, which was one of the most luxurious and amazing places we ever stayed at. We are definitely coming back for another entire weekend.

The PERFECT vacation resort...

5 on November 12, 2013

My wife and I stayed at the Iris Inn this fall for our anniversary and could not have asked for a better getaway!!! Dave and Heidi made us feel like family from the moment we walked through the door and their staff is just as kind. We stayed in one of their new "modern" cabins and feel in love! The room was perfect and the views were just BEAUTIFUL!!! Breakfast was out of this world (especially the Pumpkin Pancakes). If you do visit, make sure to stop in and say "Hi" to Katie (the owners sweet dog)!

amazing attention to detail!

4.8 on November 12, 2013

I took my wife here for her 33rd bday and stayed in cabin 4. We were amazingly impressed with these cabins. The hottub mountain view and heated bathroom floors were incredible. We will be back at least twice a year! So well done guys.

Exceptional B&B

5 on November 12, 2013

2 days at this lovely B&B just wasn't enough. We stayed in the Deer Room which we really liked. Not fussy but beautifully appointed and very cozy. The bed was so comfortable and the sheets - I want those sheets! Every detail of the Inn, from the rooms and their appointments to the great room and the wonderful balconies showed that the Langford's know how to treat their guests. We really enjoyed the glass of wine at the end of the day and socializing with other guests. Breakfast was substantial and very good. We also had the Inn pack us one of their picnic lunches for a day's outing and it was sooo good and enough food that we passed on dinner! Dave and Heidi have a winner with the Iris Inn and I highly recommend a stay here.

5 on November 08, 2013

We spent a weekend at Iris Inn and it exceeded our expectations in every way! Dave, Heidi and Glen were awesome hosts and made us feel right at home. We went with two other couples and stayed in the cabins. They are spectacular and private with a beautiful view of the sunset! I had the best breakfast I have ever had at the Inn and enjoyed every moment of our trip! We have already told several family and friends about this sparkling gem and plan to go again next year!

Very nice.

4.8 on October 21, 2013

This felt like coming home, only without the cleaning and cooking! Dave and Heidi were welcoming and took time to talk to us like we were old friends. The Inn is comfortable, beautiful and inviting and the breakfasts were exceptionally well done. We'll return.

Iris Inn B and B our 25th wedding anniversaary

5 on October 15, 2013

My husband and I recently celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary on October 8th and vow renewal ceremony at the Iris Inn. This bed and breakfast was highly recommended by a co worker that also recently stayed there. Everything was perfect. There are several absolutely beautiful rooms in the main building but we chose to stay in one of the new cabins. Our cabin #5 had an outstanding view. It really shouldn't be called a cabin as it is truly a luxurious modern studio type suite perched on the side of the mountain with spectacular sunset views. It included a fire place, living room area, bedroom area, work space, kitchen, dining area, outdoor grille, bathroom to die for and very private screened in deck with hot tub. Dave and Heidi the owners/innkeepers were a pleasure and very accommodating. They helped us plan our wedding ceremony and Dave was actually the local justice of the peace that performed our vow renewal for us. Heidi was our photographer. The ceremony took place on the balcony at sunset. We felt like we were with family. It was perfect. It is apparent that Dave and Heidi love their home and the area and they made great recommendations for local eateries, wineries, hikes, historical sites and even a local polo match. Iris Inn is an easy drive from Baltimore and DC. The inn is beautifully decorated and spotless. The breakfasts were delicious, creative and completely satisfying. The inn is very quiet and peaceful. The fall colors were just starting to change while we were there. I can only imagine how beautiful it is middle of October. I can strongly recommend this outstanding bed and breakfast to my friends and family and we are looking forward to our next trip to the Iris Inn.

A World Away

5 on October 09, 2013

I can't say enough wonderful things about The Iris Inn. We went for our 20th Anniversary Sept 2013 an I didn't want an old B&B and The Iris Inn is very modern. Looks just like the pictures! We stayed in one of the beautiful cabins. I was so impressed how clean and nice it is. Full kitchen, rain shower, comfortable furniture and the hot tub on the private deck - perfect! Close the wineries and breweries. We hiked to the top of Hump Rock Mountain - what a view - but a huge hike! I normally don't give 5's for everything but this place earned every star! The staff is wonderful and caring!

Birthday Adventure in the Shenendoah Valley

5 on October 09, 2013

We arrived at the Iris Inn to a warm welcome from Dave and Heidi. Our room, the pine room, was plush and comfortable. The expansive porch overlooked the Shenandoah Valley and gave us a beautiful view for sunsets. the in was clean and comfortable. Breakfast in the morning. Wine tasting in the evening. And don't forget to ask for the picnic lunch! Highly recommend this place.

Great couples getaway!

5 on October 06, 2013

My hubby and I just stayed here for an extended weekend getaway. It was an easy and scenic drive from where we lived in southern md. Upon arrival we were impressed with not only the beautiful location but also the clean and well kept property. We called ahead to notify them of my many allergies, they accommodated and I had a wonderful breakfast made for me every morning. They also took care of booking in room massages and recommended local restaurants that catered to allergies. The cabin we stayed in was nothing short of awesome! It was private, clean, modern and packed every luxury into a loft style area-complete with kitchenette, private screened in porch with hot tub, heated floors and a lovely view. We enjoyed the options available of local destinations to visit as well- including hiking, scenic drives, national parks, charloettesville and Staunton. Plenty of dining options, shopping, galleries and the fun frontier museum. We could definitely have stayed in the cabin all weekend as well- it was so comfortable! Looking forward to making this an annual couples trip :)

20th Anniversary & UVA visit

5 on September 22, 2013

Our family of four stayed in the Garden Path Suite to celebrate our 20th anniversary. The suite was so homey, comforting, and welcoming. Our two teenage girls loved having the loft area to themselves. We all enjoyed our stay and visit to UVA. Heidi and Dave were very friendly and informative. They gave us wonderful insight into the area and told us of great places to eat. The inn's breakfasts are out of this world. Our daughters loved the inn and the food. In fact, they wanted to move in permanently!!!

Fabulous Cabins!

We had a wonderful stay at the Iris Inn. The cabins were absolutely beautiful - exceeded our expectations! They had wonderful modern amenities, such as the heated bathroom floor. We enjoyed the private hot tub on the balcony - overlooking the valley and forest. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were very tasty, again exceeding expectations! Their bottomless cookie jar was also a big hit! I would definitely recommend this place to stay. If we ever find ourselves in the area again, we would definitely return.

The cabins are incredible

5 on July 22, 2013

The Iris Inn exceeded all of our expectations. The cabins are truly a first class experience. Any amenity we could have needed from a full kitchen, to a grill, to the hot tub, were provided. It does not seem that Dave and Heidi skipped on providing the highest quality when they designed and furnished the cabins. Thank you for a great stay.

An inn that takes your breath away.

5 on July 10, 2013

My boyfriend and I just returned from Shenandoah Valley where we stayed at two different B&Bs but the Iris Inn was our favorite. We stayed in the Hawk's Nest suite and were blown away by how elements of nature were combined with modern amenities. The decor in our suite was amazing and luxurious and we loved the art in the main building. We enjoyed the outdoor hot tub and watching the sun set over Shenandoah Valley from the Inn's tower was spectacular. Heidi and Dave were wonderful proprietors, perfectly friendly and warm while not over-bearing. They were most knowledgeable about things to do in the area and cooked wonderful breakfasts every morning. Heidi even made me special scones, catering to my food allergies. The evening casual wine tastings and bottomless cookie jars were a treat. I highly recommend Iris Inn and will definitely be returning. Our stay was wonderful, relaxing warm and magical.

A Lovely, Relaxing Retreat

4.8 on July 08, 2013

The Iris Inn offers a lovely, relaxing retreat. We found this Bed & Breakfast to be very clean, up-to-date and well kept. From spacious and ample parking, to fresh baked chocolate chip cookies, to big soft fluffy towels and terrific linens -- this Bed & Breakfast covers all the details and allows guests to relax and unwind. We enjoyed morning coffee on the deck with glorious mountain views, and beautiful sunsets from that same deck. Dave and Heidi are gracious hosts who make their home, yours. We will definitely return to this lovely, realxing retreat. --Chris & Whitney (Harrisburg, PA)

We loved our choice of Iris Inn on our recent Virginia adventure

4.8 on June 10, 2013

My wife and I recently had a three week adventure in Virginia that included four days in the Waynesboro, Skyline Drive and Shenandoah National Park area. Our choice of Dave and Heidi's wonderful B and B was an excellent one. This is a more modern B&B but we like that occasionally as opposed to historic houses. The inn has very comfortable accommodations and is clean, well decorated, convenient and has an outstanding view. We loved the town of Waynesboro and highly recommend The Green Leaf Grill and Blue Mountain Brew Pub for dining. There are several great wineries in the area including King Family, Veritas, Pollak, Afton Mountain and Barren Ridge. We highly recommend Iris Inn and thank Dave and Heidi for a great stay!!!

The cabins truly are a wonderful, couple-centered retreat

My husband and I stayed in one of the new cabins over the past weekend and words cannot adequately convey how amazing this place is - the setting is beautiful, it is close enough to everything you want to do, but far enough away that you feel such peace. Dave, Heidi, and dog Katie make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. Breakfast was delicious and a great way to start the day. The cabins are like adult treehouses – private screened decks looking west for amazing sunsets (including screening under the deck – whoever thought of that is a genius!), welcoming Jacuzzi, comfortable bed, fireplace, TV with Dish Network, a full kitchen and coffee maker, as well as a bathroom with heated floors. The cabins truly are a wonderful, couple-centered retreat. We really didn’t want to leave and we will definitely be back!

Inviting, warm, relaxing

5 on April 14, 2013

My husband and I began our 40th anniversary road trip at The Iris Inn. We were warmly greeted by Dave & Heidi and their border collie Katie. Upon entering the inn, we couldn't help but smell the freshly baked chocolate chip cookies that are available at any time of the day...or nite! Our room, the Pine Room is more beautiful & inviting that we could have imagined. We had a spectacular view of the valley and mountains from the porch right out our door. It was a bit chilly so we really didn't get to enjoy sitting on the swing...taking in the vistas...this time! There most definitely will be a next time. We've never experienced such warm hospitality at a bed and breakfast. Pleasant conversation by a warm fire with a glass of wine - it doesn't get much better than that! Breakfast was delicious as well. We highly recommend The Iris Inn!

.A diamond in the woods - B&B!

4.6 on April 13, 2013

A perfectly delightful getaway - even on a cool, dreary weekend before anything was in bloom. Would be fabulous late spring, summer and fall. Close enough to Staunton for special dinners. The couples massage was heavenly. The picnic was top of the line. A beautiful lake in the National Forest just down the road. Our hosts were so helpful. Try the cottages for a romantic getaway all year long.

Wonderful weekend

My wife and I absolutely loved our stay at the Iris Inn. Our room was spacious, tastefully decorated and very very comfortable. We loved the main room, and we wished we had built in a little more time during the day to just hang out at the Inn on one of the many decks/patios - the day beds would be a great place to hang out and take in a little nature. Owners Dave and Heidi were very friendly and welcoming. Breakfasts were terrific too. Wonderful experience all around.

Wonderful Stay

5 on April 04, 2013

Thank you so much for a wonderful stay! The cabin is truly amazing! We hope to see you again soon.

Best place we have stayed!

5 on March 28, 2013

My husband and I stayed in the couple's cabin earlier this week. It was spacious with every amenity I could think of, and has and open concept with breathtaking views of the mountains. It is also on the Monticello wine trail, so we had a lot of fun wine tasting. I would recommend to anyone. There are lots of things to do here.

They Thought of Everything

5 on March 25, 2013

We have had the Iris Inn on our radar for a year because it ticked all our boxes when it comes to amenities that we want in a B&B/Inn. And as of late, the Inn just received the acceptance of the Select Registry, a group that vets inns and B&Bs for membership which are the “cream of the crop”. As an avid user of that website, along with the reviews on TA and we have not been disappointed with the choices we made and the Iris Inn exceeded our expectation! We stayed for 2 nights on a March weekend in one of their new couples Cabins/Tree Houses and LOVED every moment. We were given a code for the cabin door so when we arrived we could just go in and drop off our luggage and then go to the Inn to let them know we had arrived. The Inn is spectacular with soaring vaulted ceilings, up stairs library, out door balcony and a third floor balcony – which all are facing beautiful views of Virginia countryside. We had cookies (from the bottomless cookie jar) and met the Inn’s famous greeter “Katie” the dog. We had wine with the owners, Dave and Heidi and met the nicest people who were also staying at the Inn. As for the cabin – I would have to call it a Tree House – it was the nicest room we ever stayed in at a B&B/Inn. It had a fridge, dishwasher, sink, dishes and glasses, table and chairs, gas fireplace, 3DHGTV (3-D and special glasses for viewing),DirectTV, recliner love seat, power blinds for the wall of window, hardwood floors, cedar ceiling, screened in porch with hot tub, heated bathroom floors, double vanities, water closet with pocket door, two person shower with rain shower, WiFi , king size platform bed with luxury linens and a washer and a dryer. Oh, I forgot the view – OMG – day or night it was fabulous! All this and a wonderful breakfast to boot!

Fabulous new treehouse cabins

5 on March 02, 2013

We stayed the weekend in February at one of the new cabins! Open to the woods and view, yet totally private and cozy for two. Beautifully appointed! A wonderful place to relax and get away. You can truly have contact with no others if you choose-upon reservation you will receive a code that will get you in so there is no check in upon arrival. The hosts are exceedingly gracious and responsive, even though we had minimal contact! Gas fireplace, TV, DVD player, stove, microwave, fridge, rainshower, bath with heated floors, private outdoor jacuzzi on private back porch. Close to the Appalachian Trail as well as lots of great restaurants. We dined in Waynesboro and Staunton. Breakfast not part of cabin stay. We will definitely be back!

Perfect Get Away Spot!

My husband and I just enjoyed the new couples cabin at the Iris Inn. Wow! They are beautiful and afforded us a wonderfully relaxing weekend. The hot tub on a private patio was perfect along with the heated tile floor in the bathroom. We enjoyed the option to cook in the kitchen or eat out at local restaurants.. Thanks for the perfect get-away!

Couldn't have asked for more!!

4.8 on February 15, 2013

My wife and I are from the DC area, and we just wanted to get away from the city for a few days this Valentine's Day week. Her & I have never stayed in a B&B before, and have never been to the Shenandoah Valley area either, so our expectations were pretty minimal...but, man, did the Iris Inn deliver!! The owners, Dave and Heidi, were tremendously nice and accommodating and they really made us feel at home. The breakfast was delicious, and the room (we stayed in the Wildflower Room) was so spacious and so cozy! We took a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is only 3 miles south of the Inn, and the scenery was just amazing! The town of Staunton (about 9 miles north) was a nice, quaint little place with an EXCELLENT restaurant that Dave & Heidi personally recommended...Mill St. Grill. The room price was a little steep, but is WELL worth the quiet, comfortable experience you get that would never happen in a hotel.

Beautiful Rooms, Beautiful View, Lovely Company

5 on January 19, 2013

I had the pleasure of staying at the Iris Inn for my birthday over the New Year's holiday. Heidi and Dave were immensely pleasurable and very friendly. I stayed in one of the suites adjacent to the main house and was absolutely stunned by the spaciousness and serenity it offered. The suite had two floors, each with a king-sized bed. There was a gas fireplace, TV with a large cable package, and a jacuzzi tub that made for a remarkably relaxing stay. The amenities were spectacular, and the rooms kept neat and clean. Dave and Heidi were more than helpful in locating activities in the surrounding area, and had great recommendations for local vineyards to visit. They were more than happy to keep up friendly conversation or let you find your own solace. Breakfast was served during the nine o'clock hour in the main hall, and it was delicious. Home-cooked poached eggs with a béchamel sauce, with hot coffee and fresh oranges. Newspapers were provided for those looking for some light reading, otherwise the conversation was cheerful and bright. I would definitely come back out to The Iris Inn for a weekend away from the city. The views over the Blue Ridge mountains were enticing and awe-inspiring. A lovely operation worth every bit of praise!

Lovely Forest Lodge

3.8 on December 31, 2012

The Inn was beautiful and the innkeepers were gracious and helpful. We went at Christmas time and found that the decorations and snowy weather really added to the atmosphere. The breakfast was just average, however. We were particularly turned off by the selection of corned beef hash for the meal because it didn't fit in well with the other items that were served. We also found that the smell of the corned beef cooking overnight kept us awake!

Kind Hospitality

5 on December 31, 2012

The kind of hospitality you extended still lingers in our minds.

Peaceful, Quiet & Most comfortable!

4.8 on December 05, 2012

My nusband & I just returned from a wonderful 3 night stay at the Iris Inn. Our room was a wonderful suite, ajacent to the main house. The Garden Path room, which was very private, very large & very nicely furnished. The wrap around deck provided views of the Shenandoah Valley. King sized bed with luxury high thread count linens; very comfortable matress. There was also a large 2 person jacuzzi and separate shower as well. We also enjoyed the gas logs in the fireplace at night. There was also a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker in the suite & a large dining table. The refrigerator was filled daily with soft drinks & water daily & snacks in the room. The main house was very lovely & we had a nice 3 course breakfast breakfast daily. There was also coffee & tea & hot chocolate available at all times & a never ending chocolate chip cookie jar We were so glad we stayed outside Charlottesville in a nice quiet location. Any room at this wonderful B&B will be a treat for anyone. We took a peek at the new cabins that will soon be available; the are awesome! We will definitely stay here again if we return to the area! Dave & Heidi were great!

A haven on the hill

4.6 on November 13, 2012

Pull off the highway and drive a short way up the hill, and this Inn will come at you out of nowhere. A remarkable, light-drenched estate tucked away from everything. The views, be it day, night, or in the fog, are outstanding and alone worth the stay. Each room is exceptional - with ample space, views, porch access, and serenity-inducing warmth. Equally splendid are the public areas and foyers, perfect for late evening games or reads. In all the right ways, one feels like one is in a mansion. Dave and Heidi are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. They provided us with reasonable hikes for the time and effort we looked to expend, dinner recommendations, and vineyards for the days ahead. The inn offers free wine tasting and home-baked cookies as you like. While the rates are certainly not a steal (~$189/night fall of 2012), you do get a great stay for what you do pay for. We are looking forward to the opening of the private cabins on the cliff's edge. It looks to be remarkable! Would definitely return.

Spectacular views

Fantastic! The people, the place, the view. the warmth of entire place transends anything you can imagine. From the valley views in the front, to the deck out back over the forest, to the tall tall ceiling, everything is wonderful. It rates as a place to do again!

5 on October 02, 2012

Fantastic place to stay. Breakfast every morning was great, the owners were always very friendly and happy to talk or serve up a glass of wine or fresh cookies. We stayed in the Hawk's Nest suite, the hot tub on the private deck was wonderful. Beautiful views. They're currently building several private cabins right on the side of the mountain that will have amazing views as well. Can't wait to go back.

We loved this place!

5 on October 01, 2012

We rented the Hawk's Nest suite for two nights as a getaway. Dave and Heidi were fabulous, were expecting us when we arrived and were sincerely pleased to meet us; we immediately felt like family. THe room was spacious and net with everything we could need or want, including a hot tub on the balcony and spectacular views. Breakfast was first rate both mornings and we wound up sharing the recipe for the apple stuffed french toast; it's that kind of place. Porch swings are a great way to watch the sunset with a glass of wine and there must be 20 vineyards within a 20 minute drive. We will definitely be back particularly to see the 6 new suites being built. They are going to be spectacular!

Fantastic B&B

5 on September 19, 2012

My husband and I spent two nights at this wonderful B&B in the Shenandoah Valley. The Inn surpassed our expectations, our room was spacious and nicely appointed. Dave and Heidi are gracious hosts and Heidi makes a delicious breakfast! We would definately stay here again!

The wife and I recently visited for the second time, and we could not have been happier with our accommodations or the service. The Lanfords truly enjoy running a B&B and it shows in every detail of their property. We'll be back soon to try out the newly installed cabins with hot tubs!

Awesome place

4.6 on September 10, 2012

We booked the Hawks Nest Suite at the Inn to spend a night prior to taken the right north on Skyline Drive, which is only a few miles from the Inn making it very convenient to drive on either Skyline Drive or Blue Ridge Parkway. As we approached going east on I-64 just passed I-81 the Inn pops unmistakably out of the side of the mountain indicating that the next exit is the right one. Once we entered the property and drove up the upgrade drive the Inn appeared on our right like a resort spa. We met Dave just inside the main doorway and realized immediately that this guy was doing what he loves. After explaining the amenities he then showed us to our Suite and left us with "if their is anything you need, please call". We unpacked and drove towards Staunton and had a nice dinner before returning to the Inn. By then it was past dusk, and the entire valley was lit up in lights for a great vista. We spent the rest of the evening by sharing a bottle of excellent Amarone Valpolicella and watching the big screen. I'm not sure what woke me up at 4:30 am (actually I do) but I decided to enjoy the hot tub out on the back deck (very private) so I woke up the better half, and that's what we did. The stars were out in abundance making it a very romantic setting. Breakfast is served in the beautiful lounge/dining area (again by Dave himself) and prepared by his wife Heidi. The food was excellent, the hosts were great, the view was awesome, and the room was exactly what we needed. We highly recommend this Inn to anyone looking for a great experience.

Hospitality at its finest!

5 on September 09, 2012

Wonderful B&B and we have been to almost 20. Inn is beautiful, spotless, breakfasts are delicious and the linens are spectacular. The sheets are so luxurious we ordered a set for ourselves before leaving the inn ! Inn keepers, Dave & Heidi are so friendly and knowledgeable about the area .We stayed in the Pine room (2nd floor) that has a wonderful balcony with a swing overlooking the mountains. The sunset view with a glass of wine in the evening was spectacular. Wineries and beautiful parks are numerous in the area. We can't wait to return to see the other seasons!

I Was Spoiled!

5 on August 26, 2012

Hi Dave and Heidi, Just wanted to let you know how much everyone enjoyed their stay at the Iris Inn this past weekend. Stephanie has informed me that Hoang fell in love with the place and Heidi's cooking. I think they may be coming back for a stay someday as Hoang was on the internet looking at your webpage. Patsy, Pat's daughter, said she was spoiled and wanted to know who would prepare breakfast for her once she got home. Everyone made it back home safely and e-mails were going back and forth regarding how much fun the weekend had been. I'm glad you were able to put up with our little gang. We did tend to get a little noisy with our laughter.

A great place to getaway from the stress of the world.

5 on August 23, 2012

Dave and Heidi meet you at the door, get you checked in and show you your room. Cookies in the jar await for your tasting. Dave can fill you in on local places for dinner. You can enjoy a bottle of wine on the deck at night while you enjoy the evening stars. Sleep in a great bed, and start the day with one of Heidi's terrific breakfasts. Dave can provide information on local sites and Heidi can prepare a great picnic lunch, when asked. Great place to recharge your batteries. I go there once or twice a year with my sister or family members.

Awesome get away!

My wife and I had an awesome anniversary weekend at the Iris Inn. Dave and Heidi were great. We left totally relaxed and very full! The breakfast was wonderful. We would highly recommend the Iris Inn to everyone.

Great Anniversary Destination

5 on July 31, 2012

What a quiet and relaxing weekend. After months marked by a busy schedule, an anniversary get-away to Iris Inn was the perfect answer. Thanks to Dave and Heidi for welcoming us and serving us. You have a beautiful inn!

Spectacular view

4.4 on July 31, 2012

Perched in the mountains, this inn offered a breathtaking view of the sunset since we had a western facing room. We have stayed at many bed and breakfast inns but this room is the largest we ever experienced. Huge king sized bed and an airy deck to relax on and enjoy the view. Breakfast was excellent with a variety of fresh fruit and large portions of homemade cooking. The fresh baked cookies throughout the day were delicious. Dave and Heidi are terrific hosts and knowlegeable about the local area. Dave directed us on some good hiking trails and made excellent recommendations for local resteraunts. There is plent to occupy the outdoorsman in all of us, plenty of hiking and a short drive to Montecello. If you enjoy bed and breakfast, this place will not disappoint and is even nicer than the photographs show.

Exceptional Experience

5 on July 30, 2012

We were welcomed by Dave, Heidi and Katie (border collie) into a living space that was both elegant and comfortable. The food was excellent and the hospitality was outstanding. We loved the wrap around porches. The rooms were very much over-sized and well appointed. The beds were beyond comfortable - we didn't want to get up. The evening meet and greet with other guests was a special touch and they served excellent wines (no additional cost to the guests). They genuinely love what they do and it shows. We enjoyed our stay so much, we booked a return stay!

Perfect getaway

4.8 on July 19, 2012

My husband and I needed a few days away in the summer from our busy life in Washington, DC, so we booked a stay at the Iris Inn. We also purchased the Wine Therapy package, which included tickets to local vineyard Veritas' Starry Nights, an event that includes a concert and dinner (available for purchase) and wine (available for purchase) outside. Unfortunately, it rained during the concert so we left early, but the rest of our stay at the Iris Inn was amazing. The room was huge and had a door to the outdoor porch (we were on the second floor) where there were porch swings, a hammock, and chairs to relax and enjoy the beautiful view of the mountains. It was very peaceful and serene. As part of the package, we also did wine tasting at nearby vineyards (we went to 5 in one day), and later, Heidi cooked dinner for us, which was delicious. The final part of the package (my favorite) was dessert and wine pairings. The desserts were amazing, and they even accommodated dietary restrictions. We also did hiking at nearby Shenandoah National Park the next day and went to Staunton for dinner before leaving the next morning. Overall, it was a terrific trip and I enjoyed the wine package as well. Heidi and Dave are extremely welcoming but not overbearing, and their dog, Katie, was an added benefit because we love dogs. The inn is truly beautiful and in a great location with great views and lots to do in the area. I highly recommend the Iris Inn!

Perfect Mountain Get a Way

Congenial innkeepers, incredible breakfast, beautiful facility nestled in the Shenandoah mtns convenient to national historic areas as well as award winning wineries. Sit in the porch swing and watch the sun go down over the mts, have a glass of wine, watch Katie "herd" the chairs in the great room. Doesn't get any better than this!

Fantastic B&B

4.8 on June 17, 2012

Came here for an early summer weekend getaway with my wife and it was fantastic. Room was spatious and clean, with complimentary drinks in the minifridge and an awesome bathroom with a whirlpool. Our room was on the second floor and opened up right to the porch, which had great seating and an incredible view of the valley. Breakfast was homemade, served each morning, and was delicious. Owners Dave and Heidi were real friendly and knew a lot about the area. Great access to hiking in the Shenandoah/Blue Ridge ranges. There's a great shakespeare theatre the next town over. Would absolutely come again (and probably will soon).

4.8 on June 16, 2012

We spent three nights at the Iris inn as part of an anniversary trip. The owners, Dave and Heidi, were gracious hosts greeting us each day as we returned to the inn and offering us a glass of wine. Dave was ready with information including maps for the activities we were interested in from exploring caverns and waterfalls to visiting vineyards. They had great recommendations when asked about specific restaurants, etc. I prearranged for a massage which was wonderful. We stayed in two different rooms. Both were huge. They were accommodating to any dietary needs for breakfast, which were good and well balanced. One afternoon we arranged for a packed lunch and were delighted with what we found in the backpack. We enjoyed lounging in the sitting area/library at the top of the stairs and on the front balcony. We also enjoyed playing ball with Katie, the owners Border Collie. It was a very peaceful relaxing stay.

Absolute Perfection!!!

4.8 on May 29, 2012

My boyfriend and I just came back from the most amazing stay at the Iris Inn. I had never stayed at a Bed and Breakfast but am inclined to use them from now on in the future if they are anything like Dave and Heidi's place. The view, even with the construction, was gorgeous. The wine and cookies were a nice treat shortly after we checked in, the breakfast was simply amazing, but more importantly, the hospitality that Dave, Heidi, and their dog Katie showed us was second to none. Heidi even saw us looking at a hiking guide at breakfast and proceeded to tell us about Blackstone Trailhead Summit. We took her advice and hiked to the top to be greeted by 360 degree views of the valley. I would recommend this Inn to anyone interested in a peaceful and scenic get-away!

This was our first Bed and Breakfast and we went to celebrate our 1st Wedding Anniversary. It was absolutely excellent! Everything was more than expected, from the cake, cheese tray and wine waiting for us in our room, to the picnic lunch that was prepared for us. The cookie jar always had delicious chocolate chip cookies in it! The owners catered to our every want or need without hesitation. They lodge is great, everything was clean and organized and the breakfasts were delicious! Heidi and Dave are great hosts, and Katie is a very impressive dog! We never realized how much stuff there was to do in the Charlottesville - Waynesboro area. We honestly ran out of time, there was much more that we wanted to do. We may make this an annual pilgramage! Emory and Christine

Iris Inn for New Years!

5 on January 04, 2012

We went to the Iris Inn to celebrate New Years eve/day and had a blast! (I had wanted to go for months!!) The suite we stayed in was fantastic, clean, comfy and super spacious! Dave & Heidi, the innkeepers, were the most friendly, caring and down to earth people you will ever meet! It was almost like being in a nicer version of your own home with family there too! haha - I can say that we will most definitly be coming again! (and just wait until you try the daily prepared breakfasts!)

My Favorite B&B

5 on December 26, 2011

This is my favorite B&B! Try adding in a massage while you are there. And the picnic basket lunch is also wonderful!

Cannot wait to come back!

5 on November 27, 2011

Absolutely amazing! My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights in the Deep Woods Suite this weekend (just got home today.) It is completely surrounded by woods and is very private. The room is very spacious and even has an extra bed upstairs. You share the upstairs deck with your neighbor, but the downstairs deck is private to you. The innkeepers, Dave and Heidi, are extremely friendly. Breakfast was a delicious homemade buffet, served between 8-9am every morning, and their family all helps to serve you. It's exactly what we were looking for to escape the city. Great views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We drove a half hour out to visit Monticello and then shopped and dined around downtown Charlottesville. There are many wineries nearby, as well. As soon as the sun started to set we drove right back to the comfort of the B&B, where you can watch the sun set from the lookout deck they have at the main house and then snuggle up by the fireplace in our suite afterwards. They do have DISH network there, but you cannot purchase any (newer) movies. I recommend bringing DVDs to watch or a good book to read, games to play. There was plenty of older movies and TV shows available to watch. We were able to bring Thanksgiving leftovers with us to keep in the fridge there and the kitchen was stocked with silverware and dishes to use. Absolutely cozy little place. I definitely recommend and will be coming back again!! Thank you, Dave and Heidi!

Already booked for next year

My wife and I had a great time at the Iris Inn. We have already booked for next year. This was our first time there and it was a pleasant surprise. The Inn is in good shape with all the modern amenities. Heidi and Dave and the staff were engaging without being obtrusive. I wasn't sure about the buffet breakfast - but it was great given our different eating tastes and quantities. Looking forward to seeing the new cabin project when it is done. Enjoy your trip.

This was our first B&B experience and my husband and I were not quite sure how it was going to go...literally the first morning I put my husband on a Recon mission to figure out how we go about getting breakfast..:) It couldn't have been easier or much more delicious. Every morning breakfast was served next to a 3 story fireplace that over looked the mountains and I have to say I loved not having a choice of what to eat and just being served deliciousness on a plate! The staff was so friendly and rooms were clean, updated and romantic and the location was incredibly convenient to plenty of wineries, beautiful drives and trails…We will definitely be going back!!!

A Great Romantic Escape

4.0 on November 07, 2011

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at the Iris Inn Bed and Breakfast. The owners were extremely nice and went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. They provided us with maps, tips, advice, and chatted with us while we enjoyed our stay. They also provided free wine at night for people to relax! We stayed in the Pine room which faces a beautiful view of trees. It also has a porch where you can sit and enjoy the view. The room was spotless, big, clean and a perfect pick for us to enjoy our get-a-way in. We went hiking and got a picnic lunch. We received an insulated small backpack with more food than we could ever eat for lunch! The sandwiches were delicious as were the other items. It was a great value for the cost. The only thing that could use improvement was the breakfast. At other bed and breakfasts we have stayed at the food was a little bit more upscale. When we go to a bed and breakfast we are expecting a big nice breakfast with a few options. The breakfast at the Iris Inn wasn't "bad" by any means, but it wasn't what you would expect from a bed and breakfast. It was something you would expect to get at a local restaurant without any extras or sophistication. I think it's important and a good selling point to really step up your game with the breakfast portion and make something that is better than I could get at IHOP or make at home for myself. Overall, this B&B was great and we would certainly stay there again! The hospitality you will receive is perfect. You will feel right at home.

Innkeeper Response
We are always looking for ways to improve our Inn and we appreciate your comments as they will make the Iris Inn an even better place to stay. I understand that you feel we need to step up our breakfast game by taking our available options to the next level of sophistication. Some of our most repeated and requested breakfast menu items are: Cranberry Scones, Apple Stuffed French Toast, Greek Frittata, Savory Strata, Green Chili Egg Puffs, Apple Sausage Ring, and Pumpkin Pancakes. Occasionally, we serve a simpler breakfast, such as fresh strawberries, bacon, scrambled eggs and Belgium Waffles. This is particularly true if we are serving a large number of guests, or we have limited staff on hand that morning. Nevertheless, we understand that breakfast for every guest should be something you would not fix for yourself at home. We will work to ensure that regardless of our staffing level, each and every breakfast is truly memorable.

Outstanding location near wineries, numerous attractons, with a stunning view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Friendly, fun, gracious hosts served delicious, hot, tasty breakfasts in their lovely, beautifully decorated greatroom. And who wouldn't be tempted by the fresh daily warm chocolate chip cookies? Thank you Heidi and Dave. We will be back! Judy and Bill

My family and I had a terrific time at the Iris Inn! We stayed in the Garden Path Suite, which was clean, spacious, and lovely. It was very nice to have the open common space in the down stairs and on the deck. Dave & Heidi were also terrific - very nice and accommodating. Thanks!

Fabulous stay at the Iris

The Iris Inn is a lovely B&B in the perfect location for exploring the Shenandoah or for joining the Blue Ridge Parkway at its northernmost end. Dave and Heidi are generous and friendly hosts who go out of their way to make your stay just perfect. The rooms are large and comfortable and the breakfasts are delicious. When we arrived after our long drive, a glass of wine was waiting for us in the lovely lounge area. I would certainly recommend this as a great place to stay.

Can't wait to return!

4.8 on August 28, 2011

Spectacular is the only word I can use to describe this B&B! Dave & Heidi were so kind & attentive to our every need! Their border collie, Katie, was a joy! Breakfast was delicious, beautifully prepared & presented! They upgraded us to the Garden Path Suite, free of charge, because another couple who reserved the Pine Room earlier in the week decided to stay longer! Beautifully decorated, cozy & comfortable 2 level suite that sleeps 4, with a 2 person jacuzzi tub & a fireplace! You will not be disappointed no matter which room you choose! Perfectly located! Can't wait to return! Susan V.

Great Weekend in the Blue Ridge!

Perfect place to stay

5 on July 27, 2011

I stayed at the Iris Inn for one night on a business trip. It was a perfect place to stay. The atmosphere was so relaxing and Heidi and Dave make you feel like you are part of a family. I didn't want to leave and will definitely stay there again.

Perfect in every way

5 on July 01, 2011

Perfect hosts, perfect atmosphere, perfect remove from busy streets. My seven-day stay in the Duck Room gave me much delight. The one squeak in the floor added to the charm. Iris Inn sits high on a forested mountainside and overlooks the Shenandoah Valley. The perfection of this place faded a bit when I noticed a number of trees out front had been topped off to enhance the view. About 25 miles east of the Iris Inn is Charlottesville, home to Thomas Jefferson's University of Virginia. The downtown, open-street mall is the main draw for visitors. Jefferson's Monticello sits just south of the city and is open to the public. To the west of the Iris Inn, about 22 miles, is Staunton (pronounced Stanton). There you'll find five National Historic Districts, the Blackfriars Playhouse (a reproduction of Shakespeare's indoor theatre), and the Woodrow Wilson presidential library and museum. Take lunch or dinner any day of the week at the Depot Grille. Or take dinner any day of the week at the Mill Street Grill (brunch on Sundays).

Roomy, very comfortable bed with good pillows; air conditioning was even and quiet. Touches like home-made chocolate chip cookies awaited us on our arrival. Wine in the evening, and cooked-to-order breakfast in the morning. Excellent place to stay and unwind.

Mother-Daughter Outing

5 on June 27, 2011

My sister and I have taken several "sister trips" to the Iris Inn and love it. My daughter and I recently spent a weekend there and she is planning a return trip next year. Dave and Heidi are great. The food is great, the rooms are great, so clean and relaxing. One year I returned three times. It's very peaceful and relaxing. You can visit the surroundings sites, homes of three presidents, vineyards, the Blue Ridge, or relax on the deck with a good book and a glass of wine. A great getaway place. Several of my coworkers have also made the trip, based on my personal expiernces and are planning return trips as well. We are having a family reunion in May and have already booked the rooms. My sister and I will do another "sister trip" in September 2012. You just have to spend a weekend there!

Relaxed, friendly, and romantic

4.8 on June 16, 2011

If you like to take day trips from a central location, this is a perfect hub for exploring the Blue Ridge and the Shenandoah. Just off I-64 and minutes away from the access point for both the Skyline and Blue Ridge Parkways, you can enjoy spectacular scenery and history in all directions. Dave and Heidi took excellent care of us throughout our stay. Our room, Wildflower, was quiet, comfortable, spacious, and well appointed. We enjoyed relaxing at sunset in a swing on the expansive deck outside our room. Breakfast is superb. The Lanfords do everything they can to meet any special dietary requirements you might have. As so many of these reviews state, you really feel welcome at the inn, and that's a direct consequence of the pride that the Lanfords take in making you feel at home. We are already planning to return next year.

A beautiful vacation spot

4.6 on May 30, 2011

Pleasant location near with plenty of dining choices and activities nearby. Our room was beautiful, quiet, clean and comfortable. Dave and Heidi were expert at making you feel at home without being intrusive. Heidi's breakfasts were exquisite and different every morning. Good coffee in the morning. Places to sit and read or just quietly relax. Worth every penny and more.

A weekend to remember

5 on May 25, 2011

I can't say enough about the generosity of Dave and Heidi (owners of the Inn). A wedding venue that we had booked at Lake Anna a year ago for our daughter was unexpectedly canceled about 6 weeks before the wedding. Dave and Heidi worked with us to make sure our daughter and now son-in-law had a wonderful and memorable event. The food was delicious, the environment was inviting and the rooms were extraordinary. Thank you Dave and Heidi - we look forward to our many stays in the future.

A cozy, relaxing, welcoming getaway.

4.6 on May 23, 2011

My family stayed at the inn while in the area for our daughter's college graduation. Instead of fighting the crowds of families in Charlottesville, we had peace and quiet in a beautiful setting. There was wild mountain laurel blooming all around the inn. Dave and Heidi Lanford went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed, including pastries for the road when we had to leave before breakfast to beat the crowd to graduation. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. We can't wait to visit again, maybe in the fall when the leaves, and the view, should be even more spectacular.

The Best B&B!

5 on May 23, 2011

Our extended family (party of 8) stayed here for our son's graduation from UVA. The setting is relaxing and quiet, the rooms are all updated and spacious, the lounge/lobby is conducive to sitting and talking, the wrap around porch is fantastic, and the views are wonderful. Additionally breakfasts were great and the special dinner that Dave and Heidi catered in for us was top notch. Heidi and Dave are wonderful hosts and take obvious pride in their B&B!

It was wonderful so relaxing. the owners were so friendly. We love going there every year. We have one room we book every year. If you have not been there you need to go. We recommend it to everyone. Everyone we know that has been there loves it. The breakfasts are wonderful. they also pack a great picnic lunch if you ask for one. I can not say enough.

Exceptional Experience at the Iris Inn!

My wife and I spent our 11th Anniversary at the Iris Inn! It was the perfect choice. We had tremendous privacy in the Deep Woods Suite. Dave and Heidi Lanford are tremendously cordial and make you feel at home from the moment you walk in the door. We definitely will be staying at the Iris Inn again in the near future!

Didn't want to leave... can't wait to stay again

5 on April 27, 2011

Dave and Heidi were wonderful hosts who made us feel right at home. The entire Inn was immaculately kept. Breakfast was delicious!! The glass of wine in the evening from "Dave's Wine Bar" was another wonderful touch. Our room was comfortable and spacious. The view from our room and porch was amazing. The location, near so many wineries, historic spots and the ever beautiful Blue Ridge mountains, was perfect. Best B&B we've stayed at and looking forward to brining friends with us for the next stay.

Great getaway for an anniversary!

We enjoyed our stay at the Iris Inn. They innkeepers are very friendly and had great recommendations as far as places for dinner and things to do. There are so many great wineries within the vicinity of the inn that we also enjoyed. The rooms were very clean and spacious. We would definitely recommend this place to others!

Fantastic views, service, and accommodations!

4.8 on March 16, 2011

From the GIGANTIC jacuzzi in the immaculate bathroom to the beautiful view overlooking Waynesboro at night, the Iris Inn is the perfect getaway for couples, friends, or families. There are hammocks, swings, rockers and chairs for patrons to relax and enjoy the serenity and peace of this Shenandoah Valley hideaway! The innkeepers are kind, helpful, and endearing, making an already marvelous stay even better! Our suite (and our entire stay) were beyond compare, and I highly reccommend this establishment for anyone looking for an opportunity to de-stress and recharge!

5 on February 14, 2011

We stumbled on this place on my phone and oh my gosh were we blessed! The Lanfords were such great people and so charming! As soon as you walk in you just relax. Light music is playing, fire place is burning, and the entire place smells like fresh baked cookies! So beautiful too. The room we stayed in was so comfortable and nice and the bed, oh the bed.. so comfortable! Breakfast was great and the other couples we met were so nice. This place is tucked hidden away on top of a mountain and theres swings, hammocks, different level decks to view the shenadoah valley. This really made our first anniversary memorable and we will definatley return again and again. Trust us you go to this place and you will not be dissapointed! The price is so great as well! Thanks again so much it was quite the memory! Ben & Bobbi

The Iris Inn Our Home Away From Home

5 on November 01, 2010

We have stayed at the Iris Inn many times and we have stayed at many B&B's around Virginia and the Iris Inn has set a very high bar and have yet to find any other B&B that comes close to the experience we have staying here. Dave and Heidi treat you like family and we love it. We can not leave out Katie the Border Collie who has been called the Iris Inn Embassador and its fitting. I would highly, highly recommend you to stay you will not be disappointed!

If you love the enjoy the best, plane to stay at The Iris Inn

5 on October 21, 2010

Before we arrived, and from the internet pictures alone , I knew we would love this place and indeed we did. Everything was even better than I imagined. The setting in the woods is peaceful. The inn is beautiful, extremely well cared for, excellent hosts who are so warm and friendly, they immediately feel like family, food that is sooooo good and a bed and room that were so comfortable, we could not have wanted for anything more. It is an excellent value and the best part is we are going back as soon as we can get several days off again. These folks are the quintessential B&B hosts. We could not have had a better stay at any place I could imagine even in my dreams. Thanks for a job well done, Dave and Heidi!

memorable getaway

5 on October 04, 2010

We just concluded a 3 day stay and the Iris Inn and Dave and Heidi made us feel welcome from the minute we arrived until our departure. We had a couples massage in our room and a private wine dinner for about 25 at the Inn and they did a fantastic job. We can't wait to go back.

Best Ever

5 on October 04, 2010

I keep coming back to the Iris Inn (and always try to bring others with me), because EVERYTHING is wonderful. Dave and Heidi do such a wonderful job making us feel welcome, and I can NOT say enough about just HOW COMFORTABLE the beds are! You will simply love the area, the Inn, the rooms, the breakfast - everything. It was hard to even want to leave just to check out the vineyards... the Inn was so comfortable I didn't want to leave.

Conveniently located, beautiful, wonderful retreat with great service

4.0 on August 11, 2010

Dave & Heidi are fantastic owner / operators of the Iris Inn. We were so well cared for during our stay and treated with friendly, kind service and great consideration. The setting is beautiful and incredibly convenient (if regular travelers knew how convenient it is to the interstate it would put hotels in the area out of business). Additionally, you will instantly relax and being in the most peaceful of settings. Highly recommend the Iris Inn and will certainly be a guest again. D. Catalano

A Visit to Remember

5 on February 19, 2010

Recently my wife and I celebrated our twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. For this occasion we received a gift to stay at the Iris Inn. This gift was very much a surprise to us and we were both very excited about staying there. Our stay at the Iris Inn far exceeded our expectations. The Inn has a lodge-like atmosphere that is very warm and inviting. The rooms are spacious and beautiful. The innkeepers were delightful and they made our stay very comfortable. Although we are local to the inn we felt we were miles away from our home. We encourage anyone, local or visiting from afar to experience the hospitality of the Lanfords and the beauty of the Iris Inn.

wish i could cook like that

incredible meals. the best i've ever had. humongous breakfast and everything is great. they also offer specials sometimes that allow you to have dinner, too. this is highly recommended, since everything produced by that kitchen is amazing.

Excellent Bed & Breakfast, perfect get-away!

5 on February 10, 2010

My fiance' and I stayed here recently for a weekend get-away. We snowboarded all day and relaxed at the inn all night. It was perfect! Dave & Heidi are very friendly. They always go the "extra mile" to make sure you are happy... breakfast is always delicious, and at night the cookies are yummy!!! We highly recommend!

my first choice in the central VA mountains

4.8 on February 10, 2010

I have stayed at the Iris Inn several times and would highly recommend it. The inkeepers are very personable and service is excellent. They even know how I like my eggs, and are flexible as to breakfast times. The rooms are significantly larger than chain hotels and nicely furnished. Each room has a different theme; all have direct access to the porches. This inn is very close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Skyline Drive, Shenandoah National Park, and numerous wineries. It is my first choice in the central VA area.

Very pleasant

3.8 on January 07, 2010

My wife well-behaved 6-year old son and I wanted a quick one-night getaway from Richmond, in the mountains. My wife and I had stayed at the Iris Inn once before, under previous owners, and had liked it. I don't think they generally allow young children, but they let us bring our son so long as we stayed in the slightly more expensive Hawks' Nest Suite, which is in a separate building away from most of the other rooms. We were willing to do this, and as it turns out it worked well. The suite was comfortably furnished, with a small, reasonably well-equipped kitchenette. We economized by fixing our own dinner (microwave lasagna with oven toast -- modest but tasty). The suite also comes with its own private hot tub, which was very pleasant after a hard day of hiking in the mountains. The breakfast they served was good -- Belgian waffles, eggs, bacon, and fruit. The new owners were friendly and courteous. The Inn itself is very pretty. We enjoyed our stay, and would recommend it to friends.

A Wonderful Break from the Daily Grind

My wife and I have stayed at the Iris Inn twice for our anniversary. Both times were terrific. Very relaxing and quite comfortable. Great location with quick easy access to Charlottesville, Waynesboro, Staunton, Harrisonburg, and Lexington. Dave and Heidi are the innkeepers and are wonderful hosts! Top marks for this Inn. Such a beautiful place

5 on December 02, 2009

The Iris Inn is absolutely beautiful but it is also cozy and comfortable because of the gracious and welcoming nature of the owners, Dave and Heidi. Our room was spectacular and the jaccuzi tub to die for. I would recommend a stay at the Iris Inn to anyone coming into town or locals, like myself, looking to get away!

Unforgettable weekend!

5 on November 17, 2009

My husband and I were married over a weekend at the Iris Inn. The Innkeepers, Dave and Heidi, were wonderful! They made our special weekend unforgettable - we can't wait to join them at the Iris Inn again soon. The suite was beautiful and spacious - we instantly felt welcome and relaxed. The Inn is nestled in the mountains and the scenery and views are absolutely spectacular.

Saved the Wedding Night!

4.8 on November 16, 2009

After our original B&B was double-booked, and with only a month before the wedding (on UVA's Homecoming Weekend), I found the Iris Inn online and snapped up the Garden Path Suite. It was the best result to a last minute snafu - Dave and Heidi are lovely people, the suite was enchanting (I loved looking for all of the woodland creatures the artist painted around the room) and the food was extraordinary. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would highly recommend it to friends and family.

Wonderful Place

4.6 on November 14, 2009

My husband and I recently stayed in the Garden Path suite. The well-appointed room was wonderful - large with a wraparound patio. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, and the room was full of windows, out of which were spectacular views of the woods. The location is excellent for a drive along Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge Pkwy. We didn't meet Dave (he was away that weekend), but Heidi was a terrific hostess who cooked a delicious breakfast for us on Sunday. Katie, their dog, is adorable, and loves to play catch. We would highly recommend the Iris Inn.

Lovely Inn

4.6 on November 12, 2009

We visited the Inn as a family and enjoyed a huge suite with plenty of room for all of us and filled with many comforts and delights. The suite was situated separately from the main Inn and was mostly surrounded by forest with quite a bit of deck space and many huge windows to enjoy the scenery. We particularly liked the spiral staircase and the gas fireplace. The host and hostess were perfectly amienable and gave us many options, hints and suggestions for our activities during our visit. They provided a wonderful breakfast, differing daily, with lovely fresh fruits and delicious home made pancakes and muffins and satisfying eggs and bacon. Overall, the stay was superb and we would visit again and highly recommend the Iris Inn to anyone.

A Perfect Fall Weekend

4.8 on November 11, 2009

We've stayed at several B&B's but this was the best ever! The rooms were lovely, very spacious and the setting was wonderful. We had a terrific view. It's a great location. It's near Skyline Drive, the Blue Ridge Parkway and lots of wineries. But, what really sets this place apart from others that we've stayed at is Heidi and Dave. They are terrific host and everyone feels like they are their special guest. It's a great place.

There are only 3 B&Bs in Waynesboro, and this is the only one located on the town's edge in the hills, away from all others. You'll have a lovely, comfy and friendly time with Dave and Heidi. Like family. They even have a fun dog!

Good job

The Iris Inn is a must stay! You owe it to yourself!!

5 on September 12, 2009

Yes -- yes -- yes!

4.0 on September 11, 2009

It's hard to know what to review -- everything about The Iris Inn is wonderful! The location is great -- right off the interstate, and yet close to all the things you want to see. Then you walk inside and it kind of wraps its arms around you -- you feel "at home." Dave or Heidi comes forward to greet you and you have two new wonderful friends! The rooms are all spacious and comfortable and the breakfasts are to die for. Coffee is always in the pot and there are always some cookies or snacks to fill your empty spaces till eating time. Katie, the dog, is well behaved, friendly, and loves to play ball with you. Go out to visit Monticello, historic places, or the wineries and your day is complete. Back to the Inn's comfortable beds and morning is waiting for you to begin all over again. You'll love it!!

Best B&B in Waynesboro

4.0 on August 27, 2009

After canceling once we were able to rebook the day of our stay, with a "glad to have you" from Dave. Dave is probably one of the most gracious and helpful owners that I have ever met. If you need it, he does it. Heidi did a great job in the kitchen, and does it with a smile. Sitting in the hot tub under the stars made a perfect end to our days spent touring. Great choice if you need a place to rest your weary head in that area. R&B

Relaxing and Wonderful!

5 on August 26, 2009

My sister and I first stayed there the fall of 2008. We returned with her family in May of 2009. I brought my daughter there in August of 2009. And, my sister and I plan another three-night stay in October 2009. The rooms are great, the food is great, Dave and Heidi are great! My sister and I love a glass of wine with cheese in the evenings overlooking the valley from the tower. It's a great sister-get-away. My coworkers are now taking advantage of the peace and relaxation of the Inn as well. There are presidental homes to visit in the area plus many vineyards and other activities. The Blue Ridge Highway is near by for driving, hiking, and taking in the local sights and events. There is much to see and do, or, just take a nap. :)

A wonderful getaway

4.8 on August 26, 2009

Dave and Heidi are outstanding inn keepers and make you feel like you've met two new friends. We stayed in the Hawk's Nest room for our mini-moon following our wedding and it was perfect. Nicely appointed with open ceilings, a fridge, and the private hottub on the deck was a wonderful touch. Looking forward to our return trip!

42nd Anniversary

5 on August 26, 2009

My wife and I love to stay at B&Bs, to be able to explore and enjoy the surrounding locale. In this case the Iris Inn became the center piece of our two night stay. We were greeted by Dave and his dog Katie, Katie escorted us to the room but no further than the threshold. As we found out Katie likes to have her ball thrown to her, over and over. The Inn has a wide porch and balcony for sitting and viewing the woods and sunsets. We were also treated to deer foraging close to the Inn. Dave and his wife Heidi have created a warm and friendly atmosphere that encourages conversation and relaxation. The food at breakfast time is filling and oh so tasty. We are looking forward to a future visit.

Wonderful Experience

4.4 on August 23, 2009

Innkeepers Dave and Heidi were helpful, accommodating, and an absolute pleasure to be around -- and always available without being intrusive. The great room is impressive, the library/game area cozy and inviting, the deck and grounds relaxing and peaceful, and the breakfast outstanding. The inn is nestled in the woods, with restaurants and activities just minutes away. We went for a romantic Valentine's Day weekend, enjoying a tour of Monticello and stops at local wineries, but it would be great for any type of retreat. We consistently recommend it to friends and will definitely return in the future.

A gem in the Blue Ridge mountains

5 on July 05, 2009

A wonderful experience. My brother and I chose Waynesboro four the halfway point for our motorcycle trip, he coming from NH and I from FL. Not wanting to spend a week in a Motel 6 box, my internet search led us here. Spectacular location, unbelievable accommodations, fabulous breakfasts, and incomparable hosts. I will return next year with my wife for our 31st anniversary.

Felt like home

5 on June 20, 2009

I would recommend the Iris Inn for anyone traveling through Waynesboro, Staunton or surrounding area. What a great place. Clean, quiet, comfortable and easily accessible from I-81. Dave and Heidi made us feel right at home. Really wonderful people. PS: We absolutely loved Katie !!!

Wonderful stay

We had a family reunion at the Inn. It was great. They made a wonderful picnic lunch for us to take on our tour of some wineries. It was so relaxing. We felt like we were in our own home. there were so many places to relax and get away from everyone. The food was great. The owners were so wonderful to us. We hated to leave. My sister and I are going back for the third time in Oct for a sister outing. this is a must visit place. So much to do in the area or just relax.

Our stay at The Iris Inn

4.8 on May 26, 2009

We found the Iris Inn to be a very nice place. From Katie the border collie to Dave and Heidi, we felt very welcome. The snacks were good, we made use of the loft area with the books and board games, connected to the internet with no problem and found the room to be very nice. There was a security light that was on for part of the night outside our room that was a minor inconvenience, but we told Heidi about it and she seemed concerned and we felt that it wouldn't be an issue in the future. We would recommend a stay at the Iris Inn to any of our friends visiting the area.

We were on our way from New Jersey heading to Georgia and we booked a couple nights at Iris Inn...We had a great time, Heidi and Dave were great hosts. They greeted us as we arrived and were terrific hosts. Their prepared great breakfast. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate and treats were available 24/7. Our room was clean and beautiful. It was so nice to relax and enjoy our stay. They suggested a local restaurant and we had a delicious dinner there. They also suggested a local winery to visit and we had a nice time at the winery. We would love to come back and stay there again.. Thank you Heidi, Dave and Katie.

A True Gem

5 on March 25, 2009

The Iris Inn is a true gem for people who want a B&B that is a combination of a contemporary hotel mixed with personal, family oriented service. The location is unbeatable in every way, the food is superb, the accommodations are clean and well maintained, the rooms extremely spaciously and nicely decorated, and all "3" innkeepers (including Katie) could not be more gracious! To summarize, we could not have found a more perfect place and will definitely return as often as we can. Highly recommended.

Our family experience

4.6 on March 24, 2009

We loved the Deep Woods Suite. It was great for my husband and I and our daughter and her boyfriend. We were able to enjoy staying together vs. being split up in hotel rooms. We could hang out on deck and look at the beautiful views, sit by the fire, play cards together. We were very close to a great restaurant (The South View Grille). Dave and Heidi and Katie (the dog) were so welcoming and friendly. Heidi made us a very yummy breakfast prepared at a special time to help us depart earlier than the other guest. We highly recommend! Thanks for the memories.

A Gem in the Valley

Stayed in the Hawk's Nest Sweet with a private deck and jacuzzi- spectacular views and peace & quiet! Attentive hosts, but they dont get in your way- helpful with dinner reservations and local attractions. Big enough B&B that you dont feel like you are on top of other guests, but small enough to feel warm and welcoming.

100% Satisfaction

The rooms were very clean and the furnishings were very home-like and comfortable. Everybody that worked there was super friendly and the breakfasts were delicious.

Romantic getaway

5 on January 26, 2009

We live in Waynesboro and chose the Iris Inn as a romantic getaway weekend. This was our second visit and each visit was wonderful. Heidi and Dave are the ultimate hosts and Cindy cooks a breakfast (fresh fruit cup, cinnamon rolls ,eggs, bacon, french toast and more) that's to die for. The Hawk's Nest with its private hot tub made it the perfect getaway. Whether walking the trails, sitting by the fire, or throwing the ball for Katie (who loves all the guests) it's a perfect getaway.

The Hawk's Nest Suite

5 on January 20, 2009

Imagine your very own private hot tub on the deck with the perfect view of sunrise and the constellations at night. Our hosts even included snacks and soft drinks/water plus all the amenities needed for a perfect stay. To top that off, breakfast is incredible. The perfect getaway!

A great B&B!

4.0 on January 02, 2009

The Iris Inn is a favorite of ours. It is conveniently less just off of I64 on the mountain overlooking Waynesboro. There are a good variety of restaurants within a 20 minute drive which can put you in Stanton, Waynesboro, or even Wintergreen Resort. 30 minutes puts you in Charlottesville. The rooms are nice, spacious, and clean with panel TVs, DirectTV, etc. The lodge was purpose built to be a B&B with upper and lower decks and even a lookout tower. Dave and Heidi were wonderful hosts. Be sure to ask Dave about Katie's bag of tricks.

A wonderful experience!

4.2 on December 11, 2008

We had a wonderful visit. The Inn is extremely convenient, but still tucked away and very quiet. We would love to go back in warmer weather to enjoy the grounds and porches. We saw snow! So the fireplace in suite was great! Breakfasts were excellent and even the dog was a gracious host!! Highly recommended. --R & K, Richmond, VA

We had a great time. The room was huge, and it was the cheapest one, but w/o the gift card, it would have been too expensive. GREAT LOCATION.....1 mile from interstate, but in the woods out of site. GREAT VIEW! Bed was great, everything in room worked. Wireless internet flawless. Hosts were wonderful. B'fast was fantastic......ask for French Toast.

Wonderful Getaway

The innkeepers at the Iris Inn in Waynesboro, VA are the kind of people that make us Virginians PROUD of our state and all that it has to offer. Heidi and Dave Lanford are fantastic representatives of what Virginia and SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY represent. The Iris Inn itself is a spectacular property located on a "spot" in HEAVEN. It is not only breathtakingly beautiful --- but meticulously clean. Breakfast is "divine." We will "return" every time we have the chance. Emily and Ed Hughes, Richmond, VA

My Mom and I visited The Iris Inn for the first time as a surprise birthday getaway for my Mom. She described the inn and the experience as "magical". From the moment we arrived we felt right at home. Everything was perfect!!! The innkeepers have definitely answered their calling. I hope to visit again next year.

A wonderful stay

We booked for two nights, hoping for a third, but they were full on the third night. Dave and Heidi were wonderfully welcoming, our room was delightful, and the breakfast outstanding. We would love to stay again. David and Judie.

Frequent Visitor

5 on October 21, 2008

My husband and I returned to the Iris Inn for our second stay in 6 months this past weekend. This time was even better then the first visit last April. Dave and Heidi made our stay feel like a visit with friends instead of just lodging. If you're wanting a relaxing, fun getaway this is definitely the place to go. My husband and I are returning to visit and will continue to do so.

Return to Waynesboro

5 on October 15, 2008

We stayed at the Iris Inn during the Fall Foliage Festival in Waynesboro in October of 2008. We used to live in Waynesboro, and we had stayed there under different owners in 1996. We had a great time and the location (near I-64) was perfect for all our comings and goings. The breakfasts were great...the only negative we might say was that they were served a little late for us (we are early risers!). We would highly recommend staying with Dave & Heidi.

5 on October 14, 2008

Choose the Iris Inn due to the fact that it looked different. This was one of the most wonderful overnight stay's I've every had. The rooms were beautiful and breakfast was to die for. Dave was a great host and I would recommend this place to anyone that want to have a nice relaxing vacation. The Iris Inn will be a place I will visit again.

Awesome getaway

4.6 on October 14, 2008

Dave and Heidi are wonderful hosts. They make you feel like part of their family (need to clarify that since many families are dysfunctional). They make you feel very warm and welcome -- like long time best friends. The food is excellent -- different each time we go there.

Willl Visit Again

Very relxing in a great location. Close to Skyline, Charlottesville and Stauton. Not far from the interstate either. Very convient and much better than any hotel and priced pretty much the same. Breakfast was fabulous! Will visit again!

Great B & B

4.4 on October 06, 2008

Heidi & Dave were very gracious hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were there for our daughter's wedding and the inn gave us time to unwind and truly relax while there. Breakfast was delicious--different every day and very filling. Beds were very comfortable and the rooms were clean and inviting. It is a great B & B! Highly recommend it!

4.4 on October 03, 2008

My husband and I spent one night at the Iris Inn. We arrived late to find a freshly baked cake and some cookies for snacks. Heidi and Dave were friendly and chatted with us and another couple before we turned in. The room was very spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious. Wish we could have stayed a little longer but wanted to drive on Skyline Drive before heading home. Heidi was kind enough to suggest a short hiking trail so that we could get a little more than just the overlook points along the way.

Great B&B

This was our 3rd time staying at this B&B and we love it! Great weekend retreat! We'll definitely be back.

5 on September 30, 2008

What a fabulous Inn. We couldn't be happier about our stay. Dave and Heidi (Innkeepers) were so friendly and very helpful. We stayed for the weekend in the Deep Woods Suite and it was great. From the time we got there until the time we left everything was perfect. The suite was huge and very comfortable. The king size poster bed was great and everything was spotless for our arrival. We were able to relax and enjoy the beautiful wooded setting as well as being able to find many stores and restaurants in the nearby Waynesboro (one exit away). We are planning on making another trip next year, or sooner if we can. Just a great place to stay, by far our favorite of the Inns or B&B's we have stayed at in the past. You won't be disappointed.

When we first planned our trip to the Charlottesville area for the USC football game, we discovered that the major hotels already were booked. So we tried something else: we looked for a bed & breakfast in the surrounding area. We chose the Iris Inn in Waynesboro and it was a great decision. Our room was large, well-appointed, and peaceful. Innkeepers Dave and Heidi were friendly, helpful, and offered up a heck of a breakfast. I definitely would stay there again.

The Iris Inn is fantastic!!

We just stayed at the Iris Inn and it was wonderful. The staff was friendly and kind. They helped us with our dinner plans and with directions to attractions in the area. The room was just beautiful, spacious and clean. We met some wonderful people from Virginia and New Jersey over breakfast. The food was fabulous. We highly recommend the Iris Inn. It will be our first choice when we visit the area again. Peter & Barbara Rhode Island

Peaceful, woodsy retreat a great meeting venue

5 on August 16, 2008

We recently attended a seminar for prospective innkeepers at the Iris Inn. Innkeepers Heidi and Dave orchestrated everything beautifully, on schedule, and had a great meeting room for our group. Iris Inn is a peaceful, woodsy retreat, and we felt we were treated as friends. A perfect stay--from the 'over the top' breakfasts in the morning, to the heavenly bed at night.

Jeff & Joan very pleased.

5 on August 12, 2008

The Iris Inn exceeded our expectations. The owners were very friendly and accomodating. The facilities were much nicer than we anticipated. We were graciously upgraded to a, very nice suite, from a regular room. We did not have dinner before we arrived so we were invited to join the owners for pizza and beer tasting. The Iris Inn is certainly a place we will visit again.

Great place for friends' getaway

4.8 on July 28, 2008

My 2 girlfriends and I recently stayed at The Iris Inn for our annual weekend getaway. The inn is secluded in a wooded area yet easy access to the interstate. You almost feel like you've entered a lodge rather than a B & B when you walk through the front doors. You immediately see the gorgeous floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace in the living area. Large windows are all throughout to give you the feel of being outdoors. There are porches on both levels with rocking chairs, swings, and tables as well as a 3-story firetower for sitting and relaxing. Heidi and Dave were so hospitable with their directions, restaurant recommendations, local info, and friendly conversations. We were even treated to some wine tastings. We also enjoyed playing ball with their cute, well-behaved border collie, Katie. All the rooms are very clean and beautifully decorated. We stayed in The Duck Room, which is decorated in that theme, and it comfortably accommodated the 3 of us with a queen bed and daybed. The breakfasts were delicious and included baked omelette, waffles, pancakes, eggs, bacon, ham, fresh fruit, and much more. Heidi and Dave were very gracious and eager to please. I would highly recommend The Iris Inn to anyone wanting to escape to the mountains to a beautiful, peaceful retreat and be pampered for a while.

Great B&B

5 on July 19, 2008

We had a great time: it's in a quiet, lovely setting that was perfect for relaxing, reading, and conversation. The breakfast was wonderful and the staff are just great. The location is a good setting off point for all of the area attractions. Thumbs way up!

A Hidden Gem

This lovely inn is tucked away and very secluded but with easy access to the highway and shops. The owners were extremely friendly and always concerned with our needs and desires. Breakfast was wonderful and a great way to start the day. The warmth of the main house makes you feel like you arrived home. With fresh baked cookies, a friendly dog to play catch with and a glass of wine waiting for you at night, this place is the perfect place to unwind from your busy life.

Delightful Getaway with Friendly Folks, Hearty Food & A Sweet Dog!

5 on July 04, 2008

We embarked on a journey for peace and solitude and lucked out by locating The Iris Inn on the website. The location is just off the main highway, but set off enough to give you a secluded, private feel. Dave and Heidi were extremely helpful and friendly; and their Border Collie Katie was so fun and loving it made us feel right at home. Normally, I don't expect much for breakfasts at Inns, but the presentation of quality of the home cooked breakfasts far exceeded our expectations. They arranged for a packed picnic lunch for our hiking trip which included home baked cookies and delicious sandwiches and snacks in a thermal tote bag. They offer a great selection of wines from their wine cellar, and made our romantic escape even more appealing with chocolate covered strawberries and champagne flutes on our first evening in town. The price we paid was so nominal in comparison to the service and enjoyment we received in return. We will DEFINITELY return there soon, and perhaps stay in one of their elegant suites this time. We highly recommend this place to anyone!! Christopher and Angelique from Virginia

Wonderful honeymoon

We will definitely return to the Iris Inn and we highly recommend it!

….is the word I used while talking with owners Heidi and Dave this morning. Such a lovely inn in a secluded setting with delightful hosts. The porches with the rocking chairs and swings, the great room, large guest rooms with comfy beds, the many amenities, and a super breakfast all add to the wonderfulness that is the Iris Inn. Thank you Heidi and Dave – Frank and I look forward to returning. Rose Ciccone Associate Editor, Report

We loved the Iris Inn

5 on June 18, 2008

Without a doubt one of the best weekends we have had is with Dave and Heidi at the Iris Inn. They made our stay at the Inn relaxing and pleasurable with great food and excellent service. The presentation and quality of the breakfast surpasses anything I have had at any of the highest rate restaurants I’ve ever been to. The Inn itself is warm and relaxing with an air of elegance that only someone that is dedicated to your comfort can achieve. The room was spacious and comfortable with an excellent view of the surrounding woods that puts you at ease. And you can tell that they care just by the little things that they do for you that other establishments would over look. Their knowledge of the surrounding area attractions and restaurants is excellent and their recommendations are always on the money. I can not think of a single thing that I would change about the Iris, and that in itself says everything.

It Was Like Visiting Old Friends

4.4 on June 16, 2008

The Iris Inn is excellent in every respect. The well designed, nicely furnished Inn is very modern, clean and comfortable. It's located in a quiet wooded area away from noise and traffic, but only minutes away from shopping, restaurants, Skyline Drive, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. The food is great, with a variety of gourmet dishes, and the innkeepers, Dave and Heidi Lanford, are the icing on the cake. They make you feel so comfortable and welcome that it's like visiting old friends.

Delightful B & B

4.8 on June 15, 2008

We stayed on May 27th. We just loved the views and the beautiful Inn. Heidi and Dave were very accomodating with suggestions for dinner. Their dog gave the Inn a very homey feeling. I would defintely stay there again. Breakfast was delicious! Can't wait to visit again.

Returning Guests

5 on June 06, 2008

The Inn is geared as a comfortable and elegant little getaway for adults. Couples w/ young children, should leave the kids with grandparents, as the Inn is a chance for a romantic getaway. Room pricing's more than fair; for the comfort, decor and superbly homemade breakfasts, it's a total bargain! Duck Room's handicapped accessible. This was our 6th stay. We were very fond of the previous owners so I had a little trepidation, wondering what Dave & Heidi might have chosen to modify. I needn't have worried. They retained cook Cindy, whose been the creative mastermind behind the exquisite breakfasts since before our 1st visit. Updating Dave & Heidi have done has improved the property inside and out, w/o sacrificing spirit & beauty of the Inn. Mellow, intelligent border collie, Kate, will make you feel at home. They've added supreme convenience of online booking and even advance order of extras - we added a fantastic picnic lunch for 2, used during a day's tour of the house and grounds of nearby Montpelier, and tacked on 2 pounds of smooth, rich Columbian coffeebeans from Escalera Roasters- same great coffee served at the Inn. The Inn's location, b/w the lovely Skyline Drive & the eye-soothing Blue Ridge Parkway. These are some of the most scenic routes in the US, if not the whole world. There’s access to multitudes of hiking trails for all skill levels off either drive or even catch a trek on a piece of the storied Appalachian Trail. A nearby restaurant, right down the road is South River Grill - nice memorabilia for horse lovers and good food. If Ray’s your waiter, you WILL be entertained and well served. Many cultural and historic sites, vineyards a short drive away. Mill Street Grill, a converted mill, often has entertainment; food's excellent. American Shakespeare Center, designed to mimic the Globe Theatre has medieval seating, enthusiastic players and great fun.

Fabulous stay chez Dave and Heidi

4.2 on May 01, 2008

The wildflower room was wonderful with the double whirlpool tub and porch swing. Dave and Heidi were very knowledgeable of the area and recommended some great eats. The location was great, very close to the highway 64 but private nontheless. We only wish we had stayed the night after hiking in the Shenandoah Park....Definitely worth the stay!!!!

Enchanted Experience

5 on April 24, 2008

From the moment we drove up the hill and saw the beautiful setting overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains, we were completely enchanted with the Iris Inn. The innkeepers were friendly, gracious, accommodating to our special requests, and just overall wonderful people to meet. They gave us great recommendations for dining in the area. The room was comfortable, spacious, and cozily appointed. (The beds were quite comfortable to sleep in, as well!) The trip was three mothers getting together for a weekend, and we found that the Duck room had plenty of space for 3 people to relax in (with a separate day bed). Then, there was breakfast - absolutely delicious each morning of our 2 night stay. The location is convenient to the highway, yet tucked away so that you feel you are in a mountain retreat. We made excursions to nearby historical sights as well as into Charlottesville itself - quite an easy trip from the inn. I heartily recommend this inn to anyone looking to stay in the area. I can't say enough about how nice, helpful, and friendly the innkeepers were!

Innkeeper Response
Thank you for the positive review of our Inn. We are very pleased to see you enjoyed your stay as well as the breakfast. We completely agree that our convenient location is truly a great asset.

Delightful and delicious stay at the Iris Inn

5 on April 23, 2008

The highlight of our recent weeklong vacation in Virginia was our two-night stay at the Iris Inn. The location (tucked away on a hilltop, though not far from major roads) was outstanding and easy to find. We liked the proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Skyline, Staunton, Charlottesville and Monticello - all less than 30 minutes away. For dinner, various restaurants are nearby - but you sure do not need lunch, since the Iris Inn's breakfasts are fresh, delicious and generous! The large rooms and common area are well-appointed, very clean and welcoming - we loved watching the sun set from the swing on our balcony outside the Pine Room. Lots of large windows throughout truly bring the outside in. But what we liked most was meeting our hosts, Dave and Heidi. They made us feel very welcome and really wanted us to be comfortable and feel at home. Their attention to detail was evident in all aspects of our stay, and they are fun and kind people. We hope to be back before too long - and in the mean time, we are happy to tell all our friends about the Iris Inn!

Perfect Getaway

5 on April 13, 2008

My girlfriend and I just got back to the DC area from a weekend getaway to relax and celebrate her birthday. On Saturday morning we took a slow ride down skyline drive into the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. The whole trip was a surprise, so we did not stop in at the Iris Inn when we first arrived, but in the meantime we enjoyed the warmest day of Spring to date at two of the finest wineries that the Monticello area has to offer. After a lazy afternoon in the sunshine, I revealed our accomodations for the night to my girlfriend as we made our way up the hilltop to the Iris Inn. I cannot say that I frequent B&Bs, but I cannt imagine a better location for one. Dave and Heidi (and Katie - their bordie collie) greeted us as we pulled up and made us feel at home right away. They had a wonderfully warm style of hospitality; my girlfriend and I felt like they were there for anything we would need, but we didnt even need to know they were there unless we wanted to. We had a relaxing dinner watching the sunset from the deck before having a peaceful night's sleep - and in the morning, Heidi's breakfast was the perfect way to start off the day - it was truly outstanding. I highly recommend this Inn to anyone traveling to some of the most beautiful countryside on the east coast - the Iris Inn fits in perfectly. Thanks Dave and Heidi.

The most charming B&B!

5 on March 23, 2008

This was my first time staying at a B&B and the Iris inn was perfect. Dave and Heidi greeted us as we walked in the door and made us instantly feel at home with a quick little tour, hot tea and freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. The views from this inn were incredible and the artwork around the rooms were beautiful from local artists. I will definitely stay there again when I go to visit Cvill.

Best B and B experience in a long time!

5 on February 02, 2008

We called all around Charlottesville looking for a B and B for Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend. When I called the Iris Inn I was already on my 8th call of the day. I was a little frustrated that no one was answering the phones at other Inn’s and Hotels! Heidi answered in a friend tone. I knew from that second that the Iris Inn was the place for my husband and me to stay. We decided to leave work early and head out of DC before 1300, so we would miss the traffic. Since we opted for the “do nothing weekend” package, we wanted to get to the Inn and settled before dinner. We were greeted by the Inn Keepers, who made us feel like one of the family instead of a guest. Our room was fantastic! The service and food was unbelievable! The Landford’s were very gracious hosts. My husband is a chef, but man can Heidi cook! The dinners and brunches were out of the world! We had such a great time and we are planning on going back this May. If you are planning to see the Shenandoah Mountains or heading towards Charlottesville’s- look no further. This is the PLACE to BE!! I promise that you will not be disappointed!
