Xmas Weekend

4.6 on December 30, 2017

Stayed over the Xmas 2017 weekend. Convenient location. Well appointed. Had a good time.

Interesting experien ce

3.8 on December 28, 2017

I stayed for 3 nights over Christmas and found it to be very enjoyable. The self-serve aspect of checking in and out was unexpected but worked just fine. I had emailed the innkeepers about needing to change my credit card but didn't realize that their away message had gone into my spam folder till I returned. The issue was easy to resolve. The room, Serenity Suite, was lovely and it was nice to have my own in-suite bathroom. All amenities included, including a purple hairdryer that matched the décor! I used the coffee machine but didn't eat the breakfast; however, it looked yummy and had a lot to choose from. The outside street noise was disconcerting the first night but I fell asleep wondering if I would be able to sleep. I didn't need to use the noise-cancelling machine. All in all, a pleasant stay. I will stay again. It's just four blocks from my son's apartment. Thank you, Sean and Polly.

Always beats our expectations!

Pick something on the quiet side...

2.6 on October 17, 2017

We had stayed here before because of its convenient location and enjoyed it very much, but this time we had a room on the busy street side. The quieter Apt. C which we had liked is no longer available as an option, so we picked the Serenity Suite with its own bath. Unfortunately, the noise from motorcycles, bus, and traffic in general (both vehicle and people) kept us up. No fault of the owners, but just a comment about room location, although the other quieter choice requires sharing a bath. Most everything else was fine; breakfast and snack choices were very good; easy independent check-in/check-out, come as you go; off-street parking good but tight. Note to innkeepers: we know you probably couldn't do anything about the shower pressure, but our shower curtain was dirty.

Innkeeper Response
As a business owner, it is always disappointing to receive feedback that your guests experience was less than desirable. It is even more disappointing to learn about it after the fact, when there isn’t anything we can do to address it. We have signs posted in all of our guest rooms asking guests to contact us immediately if there is anything they need us to address. Had we been informed of any concerns during your stay, we certainly would have done what we could to address them. I'm sorry that the apartment was not available for your dates for this visit, but it is still an option. For the benefit of readers of this review, all of our guest suites do have PRIVATE baths, the Serenity Suite and Cellar have ensuite baths, The Dream and Slumber are private - not shared. Our home is located on the corner of Boulevard and Main Street within walking distance to many great attractions. Being in that convenient, urban location also comes the sounds of the city. We have storm windows on the entire house to help with the city sounds and we provide ear plugs and sound machines in our guest rooms for those that are light sleepers. We apologize and are sorry that your experience was less than desirable. We hope potential guests reading this response will take a few minutes to read through a sampling of our reviews on both Trip Advisor and Bed and Breakfast.com to hear what other guests are saying about their stay here at The One!

Excellent

5 on August 10, 2017

My anxiety with staying at inns is that I have to be let in, interact with people, sit at a huge table for breakfast and make small talk when maybe I don't want to talk. This inn is perfect for me and my social hang-ups. You let yourself in, you go to your room which is open. Key is on the wall, and your stay begins. At breakfast, the food is out, you get it yourself, you sit on a couch or at a tiny table or take it with you. Even though the structure is old, the rooms and common area are immaculately up-kept. Everything down to the tiny trashcans are clean and "real - like, heavy and a real piece of furniture, not an after-thought purchased at a dollar store. I'll probably be making several trips to Richmond in the year to come and I would love to stay here again.

A lovely place to stay in Richmond

I surprised my husband with an overnight at this B&B for our first anniversary! We loved it. The rooms were adorable and everything was comfortable and clean. The owners were so sweet and even had roses in our room for the occasion! We'll definitely be back.

Great location and darling rooms!

3.8 on June 29, 2017

This place is in the historic district in an excellent - walking distance to the museums and to Carytown. We stayed in the Serenity Suite, which is by itself on the other side of the shared parlor from the other rooms. The bed was exceedingly comfy with great pillows. Coffee and other drinks and snacks are available all the time - a really nice touch. The breakfast was fruit, hardboiled eggs and breads/pastries. We were in Richmond for a special event , so didn't get to see much of the city. We look forward to returning again to The One Bed and Breakfast!

Cute, cozy and comfy.

Such a wonderful and cozy spot, near Cary Street shops and restaurants. Great walkable and historic neighborhood! This wonderful home is neat, clean and very thoughtfully detailed and designed. Owners seemed nice, saw them briefly but it was a friendly quick meeting. They don't bother you but you feel they're there if you need them. Serenity Suite was the cutest, cozy and romantic, has everything you need (accept the community iron, which is in the parlor closet). Serenity Suite has the ensuite bath, so it was great. There's a skeleton key to enter your room (in the room upon your arrival to use during your stay), and a unique code you punch to enter the main house from the street. A designated off street parking space for most suites (they give you a parking pass), but also street parking, which didn't look too bad. The exterior of the house is very nicely maintained and landscaped. Parlor is stocked with drinks (alcoholic and non), popcorn, microwave, fridge, toaster, cookies, chips and fruit. As well as, any dishes and utensils you may need and all available 24/7. The continental breakfast is yummy, with pastries, bagels, english muffins, boiled eggs, ham, fruit, juice, cereal and everything needed in the way of accompaniments. They serve it in covered dishes in the adjoining parlor and is served from around 8-10:30am each morning. Definitely try and get a reservation to visit this place, it's wonderful and is surely one of the places that give Richmond a great name!

Location, Location, Location!

The One Bed & Breakfast establishment was great. The title of my review says it all! We love to walk & that we did. Richmond offers great places to eat & attractions to visit. Each morning, Polly offered a delicious continental breakfast spread to start the day for our adventures. So much to see in a great area. Take a stroll to Carytown for eats & shops. We enjoyed eating at these establishments: Bamboo Cafe, Spoonbread Bistro & Can Can Brasserie. Even though we walked, we also happened to notice no meters for parking. That's amazing. A MUST see is Virginia Museum of Fine Arts & it's free! Other places were the Science Museum, Historical Society, Nature Center & Maymont Estate. And all was from stepping out the door of this wonderful B & B! Hope to return in the future.
