Two stays at Collins House

On our trip to Nashville we needed a stop to break up the trip. We were so pleased with our stay going out that we elected to stay there on our return. The hosts were very informative and helpful. I highly recommend the Collins House Inn. The place is immaculate. Breakfast was first rate.

Outstanding

4.6 on November 07, 2017

The home is lovely as was our room. It was convenient to walk to the main street of town as well as traveling to other local attractions. Susan and Mike were very friendly and gave very helpful suggestions of things to do and places to eat. We had such a nice time and the information they shared about activities in the area during other seasons of the year have us hoping to revisit the area.

Innkeeper Response

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Mike and Sue at the Collins House. They provided us with great ideas on where to eat dinner (Harvest Table) and what to see on the afternoon (Dreamland Alpaca Farm) of our arrival. Breakfast was wonderful.

Rooms & Rates

The 'George'

George A. Collins purchased the property in 1919 from Ella's children and built the original house. George was a local merchant who, along with his brother Lewis Preston Collins, SR., opened the Collins Brothers Department store in 1898 in downtown Marion. He never married. Soothing, yet elegant, this spacious guest room offers a fully vented gas fireplace.

  • Maximum Capacity: 2
  • Bathroom Private Bath
  • Beds 1 Queen

The 'L.P.'

George also helped to raise his nephew, Lewis Preston Collins II, (L.P.) who went on to become Lieutenant Governor of Virginia. Soothing greens, with subtle floral patterns, exude an earthy calmness in this spacious guest room.

  • Maximum Capacity: 2
  • Bathroom Private Bath
  • Beds 1 Queen

The 'Ella'

Ella Bolling Collins, sister-in-law to George Collins, originally owned the property on which The Collins House was eventually built. Decorated in deep jewel tones, with floral accents, this spacious room is located on the first floor.

  • Maximum Capacity: 2
  • Bathroom Private Bath
  • Beds 1 King

The 'Mary'

Mary Shields Collins (Mollie) was the sister of George Collins whole lived in the house with George. She never married. When she died, the house became part of a local hospital. Rich butterscotch and deep smoky blue tones create a soothing atmosphere for this large guest room.

  • Maximum Capacity: 2
  • Bathroom Private Bath
  • Beds 1 King

The 'Nettie'

Nettie Shaver was one of George's milliners. We don't know the exact relationship, but we know she was a very close family friend. She was with George, who was on a buying trip in New York City, when he died. After Georges death, she returned to the Collins house and resided with Mary. Warm earth tones of brick, taupe, and olive yield a very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere in this guest room.

  • Maximum Capacity: 2
  • Bathroom Private Bath
  • Beds 1 Queen
