Best B&B we've ever stayed at

5 on March 29, 2018

We rented the entire house to accomodate extended family for my daughter's wedding reception. It was so perfect. The house is lovely, the grounds wonderfully suited for an after dinner stroll, and the rooms are full of facinating antiques. There is a depression glass collection scattered throughout. The hosts are accomodating, wonderful people, it was like staying with family. Excellent food. Can't wait to go back.

We had a awesome time!!!

Nice value for a b and b. Owner and staff are very nice and accommodating people. Rooms, specifically the balcony room, is not the greatest, but will suffice.

Great B&B

It's a beautiful B&B, beautifully decorated with antiques and hand carved interiors. Our hosts were super friendly and great cooks. It's a beautiful area to visit. Ask James or Connie to help you rent a bicycle and ride the Virginia Creeper trail, and then go visit the wild ponies at Grayson Highlands State Park. You won't regret it.

Had an Absolute Blast

This was our first bnb stay, and we had a fantastic time. We came into this not knowing what to expect, but this place was perfect. The inside of the house was gorgeous, and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring all of the cool little decorations. We particularly thought the library was cool. The outside grounds were just as beautiful, and we spent a good portion of the evening after exploring Damascus, just sitting on the swing suspended from the tree in the front yard. Breakfast was great, with incredible food, and the best cup of coffee that I've ever had in my life. It was unbelievably good. I immediately asked the recipe (it's a special blend made by Dr James, and went to the store shortly after to buy one of the particular brands of coffee necessary for the brew. Damascus is an incredible little town with plenty to do, especially if you are into outdoors-esque stuff. There's a lot of other bnb's around there, but both of us would say you're truly missing out if you're not staying here. It's a sure bet.

Absolutely Gorgeous!!!

We stayed in February 2014 for a romantic getaway. We stayed in the Yellow "bridal" suite. First, I want to say the hosts were Extremely Warm and Welcoming! Dr. James and Connie Baker really welcomed us and made us feel at home! They showed us where extra blankets & pillows were to help make our stay comfortable. They asked us if we had any special dietary needs for our breakfast meal which was greatly appreciated as a vegetarian! The food that Connie made us was excellent! It was very cold that February, but we managed to keep warm. I absolutely adored the furnishings in house! I really can't get over how beautiful they were! My absolutely favorite room was the Library! I would Love to rent the entire location for a murder mystery party for friends and family! The whole place has real ambience!

The food is great!

Bay Room

With its 14' vaulted bay ceiling; full bay windowed wall; custom queen bed; and magnificent view of the estate's main grounds, original barn (c.1875), love-seat tree swing, enormous Ginkgo tree, and lovely shared bath, it has become a cherished favorite. Graced with an 8' custom-queen bed and dresser set made by perhaps the greatest 19th century furniture maker, Prudent Mallard (c.1870), and with a rare, high-back Victorian baby crib (c.1885), this gem is truly special. Facing the south-west, its second floor bay view of the mountain sunset over the tree-covered horizon is truly inspiring!

  • Maximum Capacity: 2
  • Beds 1 Queen

Nightly Rate: $99 - $139

Balcony Room

Facing the north-west, this warm chamber provides a wonderful view of the Front Lawn below. It has a quite balcony overlooking the front stairs, perfect for reminiscing the day's events or cuddling up with a good book, a full sized bed for relaxing the night away, and lovely shared bath. Furnished with an 8 foot walnut bedroom set (c.1880) and civil war era, marble wash table by the renowned furniture maker "Mitchell & Rammelsberg", this seclusion will take you back to a time long forgotten by many -- but not forgotten here.

Tower Room

With its second-floor, bay window view of the morning sunrise and cliff-overlook deck, this bedchamber easily has the most splendid view, if you're a morning person! The room has just been fully redecorated, though not in the grand Victorian style, rather in a style more consistent with its early 1800s American Empire furniture. This includes a magnificent 1830s Butler's desk and 1820s upholstered bench, chair, and lovely shared bath. But perhaps the loveliest piece, and the oldest furniture item in the house, is the c.1810 curved-back mahogany, queen bedstead - truly magnificent.

  • Maximum Capacity: 2
  • Beds 1 King

Nightly Rate: $109 - $149
