Special Occasion

5 on August 08, 2018

This visit was to celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary and couldn't have been more perfect. We are familiar with the Charlottesville area and found this close to downtown location perfect for a short stay that was convenient to amenities without significant driving time. It also involved a lot of special requests for the celebration extras that were generally surprises, (at least to one of us). Personalized wine glasses, personalized pillow cases, chocolates, flowers, recommended restaurants, and a wedding dress hanging in the room when we arrived were all part of the package. It took several weeks of planning and the Inn staff was entirely responsive to all the special requests. Breakfasts were well done, personalized, and pleasantly social. Everyone, including the other guests, got in on the surprises and resulting pictures and memories. The tasteful room furnishings and the ambiance of the Gathering Room were perfectly suited to the occasion. While we won't be coming back for further 50th anniversaries, we will be returning.

Innkeeper Response
We had so much fun preparing for your celebration. Thank you for that opportunity! We look forward to hosting you about 51?

Lovely Charlottesville B & B

Our stay was very enjoyable. The inn is decorated in a whimsical, yet comfortable way. We were in the Preston Suite, which is quite spacious and has a nice sun porch and a private entrance. Staff was on hand to take care of guests, and the breakfasts were fresh and bountiful. The location is very convenient, within walking distance to the pedestrian mall area. We highly recommend The Inn at 400 West High.

Charlottesville Charm!

5 on October 06, 2017

Carolyn is the consummate gracious hostess, perfectly suited to the role of welcoming weary travelers and Charlottesville visitors! Everything about her inn was warm and inviting. We felt at home immediately. The outdoor patio was a true oasis. Our room was spacious, quiet, and perfectly comfortable. And our breakfast the next morning was carefully prepared, nicely presented and absolutely deeeelicious!! My husband and I wish we could have lingered another several days, so we’ll have to plan a return visit soon! Thank you for all your kindness and hospitality!

Our one night stay in the Altamont room was just wonderful. What a treat to enjoy Southern hospitality at it's finest. A warm and friendly welcome, a beautiful, comfortable and graciously appointed inn had us wishing we could stay longer. Fabulously comfortable beds and a delicious breakfast topped a long list of delights. Marshall's (CT)

Perfect Anniversary Celebration!

5 on July 27, 2017

We were fortunate to spend our 31st anniversary at Carolyn's beautiful inn. Everything about our stay was perfect, from the moment Jane greeted us at the door, to the delicious breakfast Diana cooked and served, to Carolyn's personal good-bye. We loved our room, with it's own private balcony and fireplace! Every need was anticipated and prepared for us: homemade cookies, water bottles and extra glasses, toiletries, robes, and sweet smelling towels! We were able to walk to the Downtown Charlottesville mall for dinner, and enjoyed a night cap on our balcony before a wonderful night's sleep! Thank you, Carolyn and team, for such a memorable and delightful visit. We can't wait to return!

Innkeeper Response

What my grandson said

I stayed with my wife in one room, and my daughter, my son-in-law, and my two grandsons stayed in another. As my review, I will simply quote my older grandson: "Granpa, this is the coolest hotel ever!"

Innkeeper Response
Thanks! What a compliment! We love having you back year after year. That in itself is a compliment! See you in 2018, if not before!

Wonderful Weekend Getaway in Charlottesville

The Inn at 400 West High was one of the best discoveries we have made in our travels. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and charming. We enjoyed the terrace garden with friends in the late afternoon and enjoyed a delicious breakfast each morning in the very inviting Gathering Room. The location is ideal and just blocks from the downtown mall with many shops and restaurants to explore. The accommodations at the Inn made for a perfect weekend getaway. We look forward to another enjoyable stay in the near future.

Ridge Apartment

An executive suite for those who want to stay a while, this apartment is the crowning glory of The Inn at 400 West High and the perfect home away from home for business travelers. Equipped with a full kitchen, including stove and full-sized oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, Cuisinart coffeemaker and coffee press, as well as cooking and dining utensils, this apartment is designed to accommodate those who want to entertain guests with their culinary capabilities or cook homemade meals for their nearest and dearest. A small dining table and chairs make the perfect place for families to come together after a long day at a Shenandoah National Park, a UVA football game, Monticello or a lovely evening out on the downtown mall. Decorated with tasteful hints of aviary flight and fancy, this apartment?s bedroom features a cozy queen-sized bed, wireless Internet, a flat-screen cable television, and a DVD player. Nearby, a combination study-and-sunroom includes a small desk for working, reading, or postcard writing and a full-sized platform bed with coiled mattress that folds out to create extra sleeping space. With French doors opening onto your rooftop garden terrace where a table and chairs await your guests and a good bottle of wine, this room gives visitors a chance to contemplate the picturesque views of southern small city life. But such vistas are, quite frankly, dwarfed by the radiance of a 1921 stained glass window, brought over all the way from Florence, Italy, that elevates this apartment into a work of art. Located in, of all places, the bathroom, this awe-inspiring window is complemented by an arched ceiling with exposed wooden beams and a large, bright luxury shower. This could be your only chance to not only bask but bathe in the presence of such glorious glasswork!
