Step back into a world of peace and quiet. Located only 5 minute from Main Street Fredericksburg, this 1874 German stone home has stood the test of time. It stands strong and silent offering comfort as well as adventure on the surrounding 47 acres. The house was abandoned for over 80 years with never any electricity or indoor plumbing. It was lovingly restored from 2007 to 2010 and stands today as a gracious reminder the original German settlers found so appealing. The original stone walls of the home have remained solid, and the quality materials from which the home was constructed have endured the test of time. Guests will find everything they need for a restful getaway at Valentine Hill. The house is fully equipped for entertaining, and the fire pit on the open terrace with wonderful views begs for a leisurely evening....perhaps grilling on the large Jenn-Air grill? If you are a fisherman, you can cook your catch of the day from our own stretch of Palo Alto Creek. The year round creek is full of bass. Bring your own gear and prepare for a fantastic Hill Country Adventure!
This is "Amelia's Cabin". Back in 1846 Conrad Kollmeyer built this log cabin for his young bride, Amelia. Imagine how brave they were to start their lives together in Indian country, west of Fredericksburg. Amelia set up housekeeping within these very walls, and bore 4 children. By the census of 1860 Amelia was deceased. I build this permanent cabin in her memory and to the memory of all the brave pioneers that made our lives possible. Amelia's Cabin reflects the "homey-ness" and warmth that a pioneer house would provide. The atmosphere inside wraps around you like a soft blanket. The view from Amelia's SE facing window is just wonderful, and the huge walk in shower is a delight.
The understated exterior of "Miss Thelma's House" belies the comforting elegance inside. The exterior board and batten material is reclaimed barn wood, that has character and an excellent patina. I am so proud to be able to allow these time worn materials a proper place for many more years. The interior welcomes you with soft colors and lovely furniture. The house, named in loving memory of my Mother, is so much like her ; graceful, peaceful and beautiful!
Well, as you can imagine with a name like this, JD's is a bit more "cowboy". Maybe "cowboy", but oh so comfortable! Wonderful height to the wood ceiling, matched by a great wood floor; lodge pole pine bed and ample windows make JD's such a welcoming and cozy spot. The front door (all doors are hand made) is Dutch style to allow even more of the outdoors in. The very large bathroom also has a delightful jacuzzi tub with rain head shower. All kitchenettes are made from reclaimed wood from a horse race track! Very fitting for me, a horse farmer for 38 years! Each has hidden appliances (microwave, refrigerator and coffee machine). With a happy theme of red and white, JD's Bunkhouse bids you stay.
