My dream of visiting one of the Bronzville brownstones finally came true. We loved the experience and wouldn’t stay anywhere else when traveling to Chicago.

Where to begin to try a describe this amazing house, my room which was actually more like a suite just blew me away, every attention to detail and comfort was taken care of from the massive bed, huge step up spa bath and all of the art which tied into the Nat King Cole theme The music playing when I walked in created just the right ambience and this permeates throughout the whole manor and so you can’t help but start to relax right away, all of the sitting rooms are comfortable with big couches and more art and books to read … if you love R & B, Soul and Jazz this is the perfect destination, I could have easily just spent my 3 days in Chicago chilling at the house In terms of location the Manor is on Michigan Ave which if your arriving by train is only a five minute walk from 47th Street Station and so easy to get into the city, there are also points of interest nearby such as Barrack Obamas residence Mel the proprietor told me later during my stay that his aim was to not just provide accommodation but to give his guests a memorable experience and he certainly delivered on that. Every morning he served a lovely breakfast in the kitchen and was happy to take anybody where they need to go, this guy honestly can’t do enough for you and will pick up on the little things, in one of my emails to him I had mentioned my interested in music and so on the first night I arrived he took me to a Jazz recital at a local music college that he had been told about and thought I may like … those types of experiences are priceless David Bellerby - Auckland New Zealand

I just finished my second stay at Welcome Inn Manor. The first time I stayed there I booked it knowing nothing about the place. I was blown away by the building, the decor, the rooms and the host. Oh yeah and the breakfast as well. Mell is a wonderful host, storyteller, and cook. Needless to say , the Welcome Inn Manor was my first choice the next time I was in Chicago. I was not disappointed on my return visit. I will be back again.

Inn Manor is a wonderful place to stay in Chicago. It is very bueatiful, clean and well decorated, making us feel like home. It is very convenient too, close to the subway station and University of Chicago. The breakfast is also delicious. Mell, the inn keeper, is very kind and humororous, prepared hot milk for us after knowing our special need.He drove us to University of Chicago, many scenic spots and also the airport. He offered us snacks when we relaxed in the living roome in the evening. We had a lot conversation with Mell and learned a lot about Chicago from him. We had a very good time at Inn Manor with Mell. Hope to stay here again if we come to Chicago.

the B&B Hotel was very charming and in a quiet area. The Manager was very helpful in giving us a very good breakfast and service including a drive every day to the Mc Cormic place and other places - very nice and thank you again. We will come again.

My wife had surgery recently at the University of Chicago Hospital which required an eight day stay in the City. Our experience at the Welcome Inn Manor Bed and Breakfast could not have been better. We were greeted at check in with warm hospitality which helped to calm anxiety of the upcoming procedure. Every need that arose throughout this experience was met above and beyond expectations, to include; early morning rides to the hospital, assisting with getting back to the B&B upon discharge, and even traveling to the drug store for medications. It was especially nice to have Mell and Angie waiting for me at the end of each day while my wife was in the hospital to discuss the day’s events and unwind. We will be returning to Chicago for some follow up visits, and will definitely being staying the Welcome Inn Manor!

From the pickup at the airport to the gourmet daily breakfasts (at whatever hour of the morning suits your schedule), to the excellent local recommendations, Mell is the consummate host. He was always ready with friendly conversation, recommendations for finding great food and music, and even provided a bottle of wine to unwind in the evening. This lovely B&B is a bit off the beaten path, but was very convenient for my visit to the U of Chicago. The accommodations are unique and spectacular, while still priced to compete. Every room has been lovingly restored from the original 1890s brownstone manor to provide comfortable and luxurious accommodations while retaining the original charm of the place. When traveling for business I'm used to staying in the standard Hyatts, Marriotts, etc. Instead, if you want a place with some character and a personal touch, you can't do better than the Welcome Inn Manor!

We absolutely loved our visit to the Welcome Inn. Mel and Angie greeted us like we were family. The food was great, convenience was beyond our expectations, and the atmosphere was very warm and accommodating. Highly recommend.

This was a second stay for us, both related to a Library Conference. The building is beautiful, the rooms very well appointed, but the hospitality exceeds all. Mell and Angie were dealing with a record breaking blizzard, canceled plans for the Super Bowl Party and family obligation, but they took care of our every need. In addition to providing wonderful gourmet breakfasts, they even hand -elivered a Soul Food Sunday brunch when the snow made traveling difficult. Beautiful art and music surround the visitor, history lessons about the Bronzeville neighborhood enrich the experience, and a warm, relaxed atmosphere through it all. The Nat King Cole room has a jacuzzi tub, large shower and multiple areas to sit and relax in the Suite. Music pipes in through the rooms, jazz. surrounds you. Cannot say enough to recommend the place and the people. Plus we gratefully accepted Mell's generous drives to the Convention Center, which is only 3 miles away, a walk or bus ride in the summer, but in winter, more of a challenge. Our only regret is that we could not follow up on Mell's insider recommendations for jazz and blues clubs. Nest time. Visit The Welcome Inn on your next trip to Chicago, you will not regret it!
