Heerlijk.

Liam's Suan Dok Mai was more than just a great B&B for a great value. My boyfriend and I spent 5 nights with Daphne, the Belgium owner, in January while we were backpacking through Thailand and we are likely to judge every hotel we stay in from here on out against Liam's Suan Dok Mai. We had just left Bangkok and went to Chang Mai looking for the antithesis of Bangkok: calm, tranquil, relaxing. We found it at Liam's. Our room overlooked the beautiful mountains and had the archetypal palm tree standing solo in the field below. It made for some beauttiffullll sunset pictures. The quaint size of the hotel made for the perfect environment to meet some unforgettable people; including Liam, her son for which the B&B is named after. The pet-friendly nature of the hotel was perfect for us because we were just starting to Jones for our Rottweiler at home. We arrived late one night, after the kitchen had closed, but the amazing staff was kind enough to make us food. Daphne's dedication to her business and family-- a difficult balance for most-- was immediately apparent from the moment we met her. She let us borrow her motorbike to zip around Chang Mai, she suggested the In Flight zip line tour, which had us in stitches laughing the whole time as we flew hundreds of feet in the jungle's canopy. Our most memorable experience of our month long journey was a two-day Mahout (Elephant Trainer) training at Baan Chang, suggested by Daphne. She even helped us map out the rest of our trip If you're looking for the REAL Chang Mai experience you can find it at Liam's Suan Dok Mai. Mingle with the locals, expats and travelers alike under the tranquil setting of good food, good friends and a good quality bed to lie down in at night.

My wife and I have been to Chiang Mai many times and we can say that this is hands down the best place we have stayed when visiting. It is located a bit outside the city center, so it is perfect if you want to explore Chiang Mai but also have some rest and quiet if you feel like it. The rooms were very nice and clean, the food in the restaurant was awesome (the lady who owns the guest house cooks the meals herself), the swimming pool was extremely relaxing. Also, the guesthouse offers free bicycles which I think is perfect to explore the surroundings and get to the city center in no time. The crowd staying at the guest house was very eclectic (couples, families with kids, travelers with pets, single people), which made it all the best and provided a nice environment for the guests to mingle. Overall it was a great experience and we will definitely be going back when in Chiang Mai.

We planned to stay a few days and ended up a few weeks! Friendly, helpful staff. Wonderful food - it was really nice to have the option having GREAT western food for a change from Thai. The proprietor was really helpful with booking things to do around town....for when we wanted a break from relaxing by the pool. About 5 min from town but really easy by taxi, red-taxi or tuk-tuk. Also, most of what we wanted to do (hiking, etc.) was in the same direction out of the city so it took less time to get there. Plus, for tours we were the last picked up and the first dropped off. If I go back to Chiang Mai, I would absolutely stay there again! Highly recommended!

It's not downtown, rather about five minutes out by car or motorbike, but that's part of the charm of it, why it's so appealing. It's quiet and friendly place, nicely laid out to create a community of travelers. The proprietor is virtually always around and is very responsive to whatever you need. The staff are friendly and helpful. The Belgian food is excellent, and after you've been in Thailand a while is a nice change from the local fare (which we love, but find we like it better in moderation than for every meal). We stayed for two weeks -- and we're going back!

This place is of high value for little money and a hidden gem. Beautifull, clean, vere hospital hosts (a Belgian family) great food and what a service!!! It's like a 5 star hotel but here you feel like visiting friends or staying with your own family during spring break. Highly recommended. J&H, NYC.
