Historic 1859 Woldert-Spence Manor

611 West Woldert Street Corner of Woldert and Vine Streets, Tyler, TX 75702 USA (Show map)

About

We are Tyler's oldest B&B, and the closest lodging facility to historic downtown Tyler. An 1859 Tyler Historic Landmark, the Manor is a restored Queen Anne Victorian home. The house is set back on a large corner lot surrounded by brick streets and many mature shade trees. There is a small waterfall pond in the relaxing Rear Garden along with a gazebo, wishing well, and large back deck. The main house has original oak and heart-of-pine wood floors, wood moulding, and gorgeous stained-glass windows. All 7 rooms have private baths, some featuring claw-foot tubs. Additional features in some rooms include king or queen-size beds, fireplaces, private balconies or porches. One of the rooms is a private carriage house for that home-away-from-home feeling. A delicious breakfast is served daily on china, crystal and silver in the formal dining room. The Woldert-Spence Manor is perfect for honeymoons, anniversaries, birthdays, or any special occasion! Also ask about our whole house rate for family reunions, retreats or group getaways. We are just minutes from many attractions including Tyler's Rose Garden, fine dining, antique stores, Tyler State Park, and more. There is something for everyone to enjoy while in Tyler!

great stay

The owners are upgrading the yard. Wifi was impossible to use. Barbara was a great chef. Breakfasts were fabulous. We were the only guests so were treated to a tour of the house and lots of information

Wonderful Accomodation

The Woldert-Spence Manor was a charming b&b, Barbara was a great host, and the breakfast was delicious. I would definitely stay there again.

Beautiful old house.

2.8 on April 13, 2018

This is a beautiful & charming old house. Owners seem to take pride in it but don't seem enthusiastic about hosting guests there. Rather, they seem to "tolerate" having other ppl in their home. A cousin & I shared a room (William Woldert, I believe) I slept on a pull-out sleeper chair. Comfortable but no space to navigate in the room with that pulled out. Very small room. As older ladies, we enjoyed having a walk in shower. Everything very clean. This was the most expensive B&B we booked for our extended trip. Other B&Bs were as nice or nicer & less money.

Innkeeper Response
We are saddened to hear that you and Jan had a negative experience during your stay with us. Sometimes when guests do not book direct with us, the intricacies of individual needs are lost through lack of personal communication. That may be the case here; however, we believe the room you reserved was still the best fit for your overall physical limitations. We respect that you may have been compelled to lower your ratings based on emotions; but would have enjoyed an opportunity to offer some compensation for your percieved discomfort. Safe travels to you both.

Wonderful Stay!

5 on April 09, 2018

My daughter and I visited Tyler, TX this past weekend and spent one night at this B&B. Not only was the place stunning and impeccable, but what made it even more special was the hospitality of the owners, Mike and Barbara. We will never forget how wonderfully the made us feel, their making sure we had all we needed, and then served us the most delicious breakfast, while sitting down with us to chat. The place is near downtown with red brick roads and with all of the history the place and the house has to offer. Such a wonderful stay - highly recommend it.

Innkeeper Response
Thanks so much for finding us. We enjoyed hosting you and look forward to your next visit!

Delightful B&B in a Charming Town

4.8 on April 06, 2018

We came to Tyler for the Azalea & Spring Flower Trail and after reading reviews on Woldert-Spence Manor, decided to stay here. Glad to say we are so very pleased to have made that our choice! The Manor is immaculate and Barbara is the perfect host. The neighborhood felt safe, and Barbara's garden was brimming with interesting plants. The gardens on the trail were in peak bloom and so easily accessible from W-S Manor.

Innkeeper Response
It was a pleasure to have you in the house. We look forward to future visits. Don't miss out on upcoming events like the Red Dirt Festival in May and the Texas Rose Festival the third week of October!

Good location

3.6 on April 03, 2018

Current owners have been there 3 years but house has been B & B for decades. Previously a private home. Lovely historical area within a few blocks of many sites and dining. Robert Spence room at the top of steep stairs is not for tall people. All bathrooms were added so they are small. Baloney was nice but room faces west, so probably get really warm in summer. The bed wasn't very comfortable. Downstairs there is refrigerator, water and microwave for the public but no ice. Furniture in parlour isn't comfortable and room is junkyard. Food was ok. Owners are still learning

Innkeeper Response
Thank you for your valuable feedback. Guests seeking a true historic location are typically charmed by the unique qualities of the property. We are glad you enjoyed the balcony, as that is one of the charming features that draws guests to this room. We are always happy to accommodate special needs of guests upon request. Wishing you safe and happy travels.

Fantastic Stay

5 on March 22, 2018

Just being able to see this manor home was a delight. You can tell Barbara and Mike love sharing their home with others - and the breakfast is wonderful. Barbara makes sure you are set for the day ahead with her gourmet cooking skills. The location was quiet and perfect for our 3 night stay in Tyler. They are only a mile away from yummy BBQ at Stanley's so we enjoyed a walk there and back each of our 3 nights!

Innkeeper Response
Thank you D&M! It was such a pleasure to offer you our hospitality and learn about your adventurous journey. If never we meet again, you are wished only happy days until then!

Wonderful Stay In Tyler, Texas

5 on March 13, 2018

Barbara and Michael were excellent Innkeepers - the food was marvelous, the room was clean and well decorated in items from that time period as was the whole house in general. This was like a cool slumber party in a neat museum. Highly recommended!

Very pleased with our stay

Lovely inn, comfortable bed, very clean, tasty food. The innkeeper, Barbara Downs, was very knowledgeable about local history, great recommendations for sightseeing. If we have the opportunity, we'd stay there again.

Wonderful stay

Last week we spent two nights at Woldert-Spence Manor. A great B&B in the old part of Tyler with very friendly innkeepers and impeccable service. The rooms were fine, but the bathrooms very small. The homemade breakfast by Barbara tasted real good and exceeded our expectations! Onsite dining was not possible, because this is a B&B.
