Found this location online and at a much more affordable rate than anywhere else in the area, minus the standard motels and such of course. The room was clean and well decorated, as well as large but still felt cozy. The breakfast each morning was very helpful to get the day started and get food without having to go out and wait at a fast-food or sit down restaurant. If you do not mind driving to and from your destinations while visiting Charleston, this cozy bed and breakfast is the best there is. The staff are friendly and cheerful. Would recommend you bring a small cooler to keep drinks cold, as the rooms do not have mini fridges. Ice is provided on site. Also, the elevator makes luggage no problem.

The hostess was absolutely fantastic and the rooms were great! The small complimentary breakfast was tasty and we loved it! The only downside was that we had some loud neighbors that we could hear talking through the wall. Everything else was great!

We had a very comfortable stay and the Inn at Ion. The accommodations were ideal and the location and neighborhood was picturesque and delightful. The room was very well appointed and had every thing we needed for a very comfortable stay. Breakfast was always good and the atmosphere at the Inn was relaxing. The owner was very attentive and friendly. It was a great In and We would definitely stay there again.

I have stayed at The Inn at Ion 10+ times. This is my first time under new ownership. So let me start with the negatives. Customer service needs some improvement. It was often hard to get staff to answer the phone, and even after leaving a message I still did not get a call back. My room was not as well maintained under the new ownership. I had a few minor things broken, my bathroom door would not fully close, and there were a air vents that needed replacement. Breakfast was a disappointment. It was not until 9a on the weekend, which is too late, especially if you are in town on business. I ended up going out for coffee, and came back to the Inn for breakfast, only to find a tiny buffet with a few bagels and pastries, If I am at a B&B, I am expecting a little more. On the positive, the Inn is in a great location. Ion is a very unique community (Bill Murray lives there) with good places to walk and a great fitness center (available to guests). You are 10 minutes from downtown Charleston without the traffic and parking issues (and parking fees). You are close to Shem Creek, which has multiple restaurants on the water. You can also walk to a local pub (12 steps) for food and drinks. The rooms are well appointed with high-end furnishings and fixtures, and clean. And the price is a lot less than you would pay downtown. Despite a few areas for improvement, still a great place to stay.

We were so pleased with our stay at the Inn. Jennifer couldn’t have been more personable and helpful! The charming rooms and grounds make this inn a hidden treasure! Minutes away from Charleston—minutes away to relaxing amenities. Will definitely return!

A great place to stay within minutes of downtown Charleston in beautiful Ion community in Mt. Pleasant. The rooms are spacious comfortable and nicely decorated. Jennifer was friendly and very helpful. And the breakfast was delicious - so much better than the "continental breakfast" provided by many of the inns on the peninsula. Good food and drink options are also located right across the street.

We recently booked a 2 night stay at Inn at I'on and almost immediately upon viewing the B & B we added another night! The room was outstandingly clean, neat, updated with a nice balcony overlooking a quaint country-ish square for a morning cup of coffee or a happy hour glass of wine! Jennifer and the rest of the staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were delectable, especially the French toast! The inn is a very shortageasy drive over the bridge to Charleston and we never experienced any traffic delays. We would definitely book the Inn at I'on for another stay in the future.

This is my second time staying here and our stay was very memorable! The staff is very personable and had great recommendations for places to visit and eat in the area. Jennifer was very accommodating during our stay and truly loves what she does! The rooms were very clean, spacious and comfortable! Breakfast every morning was great and made to order! The chef was so nice and came out to introduce himself to us. The location of the inn is in a quiet neighborhood but still central to all of day trips in Charleston! Jennifer also sent us a beautiful hand written note after we left. I could not more highly recommend the Inn at Ion to visitors looking to come to Charleston!

I rented out the entire Inn for my family while we were in town for my son’s wedding. Every family member loved staying at the Inn at I”On with the beautiful rooms, extremely friendly service, and the delicious breakfast each morning. I highly recommend the Inn at I’On and I will return next time we are in Charleston!
5 on April 18, 2018
I think I can speak for our family that occupied several rooms at the inn for a weekend wedding that the rooms were very comfortable, quiet, furnished beautifully, refreshed often and well maintained. The Inn staff always making sure everything was to our liking and offered assistance and suggestions on things to do and where to go. Breakfast every morning was especially a treat and deliciously prepared by Chef Owen who came and introduced himself to us on our last day. So many personal touches that made our stay at the Inn at I’On a most pleasant and comfortable one. Additionally, the Inn is conveniently located a short 15-20 minute drive to Charleston. Hope to be back again sometime soon.

Had a lovely stay at the Inn at I’on in the charming village of I’on in Mount Pleasant. A A short drive to the historic district and close to Fort Sumpter. Our well decorated room had a fireplace and a porch with two comfy rockers. Everyone one was friendly and helpful. Nice breakfast on the sun porch. I’d highly recommend this inn.

My wife and I have stayed at the Inn at I’On several times - it is a good value for the Charleston-Mt. Pleasant area. And the surrounding Ion village is a peaceful place to walk and exercise. Our trip this year was special because of inn Manager, Jennifer, was friendly, professional - she did everything including cooking breakfast to make the inn welcoming. Our only criticism of the inn is there is very little sound proofing between the rooms which can be disconcerting at times.
5 on March 28, 2018
This was our second stay at this wonderful Low Country Inn and it was still five star. Jennifer was especially friendly and helpful, plus she served a wonderful buffet breakfast. The regular full morning breakfast was also wonderful and well served. We will return!

The Inn at I'On is a very nice property. The rooms are well furnished and comfortable and we greatly enjoyed our recent stay. However, the recent change in ownership accompanied by closing of the onsite restaurant were very awkwardly handled. Always difficult, the ability to communicate with the Inn became virtually impossible. The website telephone number is still incorrect and aside from automated confirmations it is impossible to confirm, modify or cancel any reservation, or to contact the staff for any other purpose. Once onsite, staff is still scarce, but at least a direct phone number is provided. Hopefully that situation will improve as the transfer to new ownership is completed. Because the property really is very nice and deserves better.

We stayed on Sunday night and was able to check in early and even enjoyed a "REALLY GREAT BRUNCH." The only draw back if I had to find one was that noise that you get from the road. We have stayed a many B&B's in the historic area of downtown, and really enjoyed the community. You are just 5-10 minutes from downtown. The staff was amazing, rooms where really nice, and really look forward to staying again.

While visiting Charleston, we stayed in this elegant inn in the lovely neighborhood of Ion. It cost us half of what we would have spent in Charleston. The rooms are clean and elegant. Some of the features we especially enjoyed are the balcony and the oversized bathtub. The Inn at I'on is only a 10-15 minute drive from Charleston.

Inn at Ion is a very good option for staying near Charleston. Room was large and very nicely decorated. Bed was very comfortable. Only thing that bothered me was, no one is there before 3:00 pm. Also , breakfast is not available until 9:00 am. I am an early riser and having to wait until then for coffee and breakfast is a little inconvenient. Would go back again and just deal with a few inconveniences.

On our visit to the Charleston area, my friend and I decided a B&B would be fun. We liked what we saw on the website of The Inn at I'on, but had a question about the breakfast. Previous reviews mentioned that breakfast was not provided, so I called about that. Breakfast had been reinstated after the remodeling of the restaurant. It was a full breakfast that included orange juice and coffee and was a delight each day we were there. The room was lovely with two queen beds that were very comfortable, and beautiful crown molding all around the room. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay there again.

5 on November 11, 2016
I had wanted to stay at this inn for a long time. Usually when we go to Charleston its for business and we stay in the historic district. However, certain times of year it is more expensive than other times. Getting a room for over $300 a night makes no sense unless its a special occasion. This last trip was during a peak season, the Ion Inn had rooms available, so we gave it a try. I can honestly say that this is where I will be staying from now on when visiting Charleston. Mt. Pleasant is a really nice area with plenty of good restaurants, and about 10 minutes over the bridge your in Charleston. The Inn at Ion is part of a beautiful quaint village. That we enjoyed walking around in. The Inn itself is equally as beautiful and quaint. We had a private parking space. The room was large and well decorated. After an exhausting day we especially liked the porch attached to our room with rocking chairs for relaxing. Service and staff were exceptional. There is a new Italian restaurant on site that we visited for a complimentary glass of wine and appetizer that the Inn offered since they no longer offer a complimentary breakfast with the room. We had a large lunch before checking in so we didn't do dinner. However, I definitely plan to on our next visit. Their menu sounded wonderful. This is a hidden gem just over the bridge from Charleston in the quiet Ion village of Mt. Pleasant. Worth checking out!

Very disappointed that breakfast was not on site especially with no appropriate restaurants nearby.......while a delightful place to stay, even having fruit, hot water /coffee and protein bars would have improved my stay.

We enjoyed our stay. Very nice room with a great balcony over the street. Our visit got cut short by the hurricane, but the hotel refunded the extra day. Vouchers for appetizers / drinks at two local joints is a very nice touch, much appreciated. Thanks, we will be back!
3.8 on October 16, 2016
Originally I booked it as a B&B but they have discontinued breakfast. I would not call this a B&B. It is a hotel run inn with sporadic interaction. The room was roomy, well maintained and clean. It was quiet and a good location to Charleston if you'd prefer to stay out of town. People were friendly and the appetizer/drink coupons were a nice touch. Overall I would stay here again even though I prefer a true B&B. Also, having an assigned parking spot was great.

The food at the restaurant was not "Charleston" quality. The Inn use to have a fantastic breakfast, but now has nothing in the morning. Don't know how you can call it a bed and breakfast without breakfast. Otherwise it is the "best" place to stay in Charleston for quite, restful stay within a beautiful community.

My husband and I along with another couple recently stayed at the Inn and this would be our home base for our three day tour of Charlestown. Great choice : ). The town or Mt. Pleasant is just off Rt. 17 and a fifteen minute drive to Charlestown. There are two nice restaurants, swimming pools, tennis courts and a fitness center at the Inn that we also enjoyed during our stay. Bottom line, we will return to this great little Inn on our next visit to Charlestown.

I was reluctant to stay just outside of Charleston rather in town itself but I am delighted that I gave this beautiful inn a try! It is located within minutes of Charleston across the Ravenel Bridge. The room was gorgeous, the staff attentive and well mannered and the restaurant a great surprise. My dinner at the Italian restaurant at the inn was unexpectedly delicious and frequented by locals; always a good sign.

The location was great! Because it was a Bed & Breakfast and previous experiences, I was expecting breakfast. Instead of breakfast we did receive vouchers to two locate restaurants for appetizers or drinks. It worked out well. Really enjoyed the porch and the comfortable bed.

We stayed at the Inn for one night while moving out so. Into college. The room was clean and nicely decorated . The porch does need some attention , as There is a bees nest and it was in need of washing. Other than that minor issue, it was perfect !

Our room (#4) at the Inn at I’on was beautiful and romantic. The king-sized bed was very comfortable, the a/c worked great (nearly 100 during our visit, so it was not the time to try out the fireplace!), and everything was clean, neat & tidy. I loved the extra-long bathtub, too. The only downside was that the charming porch opened to a busy street, so there was noise while sitting out there; however, it was not a problem in the room itself. There was a dedicated parking spot for each of the rooms. Beaches, shopping & restaurants are very nearby, as is downtown Charleston. The rate was affordable, and I would definitely consider staying there again. Thumbs up!!

This was the second time we stayed at the Inn at I'on. The rooms are very comfortable and the breakfasts are fantastic. The inn is close to Charleston, Sullivans Island, and the Isle of Palms, but when you don't feel like traveling, there is family pool, as well as an adult only pool that at your disposal. We also like the inn because it is off the beaten track, in a quiet community rather than on a main highway.

This is a place we will come back to for our visits to Charlston. Everything is just minutes away, beach and Downtown Charlston. The rooms are modern but have a cozy home feel. Went swimming at the pool house and enjoyed walks around the neighborhood. I have already recommended this bed and breakfast to my friends and co workers.

My husband and I visit Charleston frequently, but want to spend more time in Mt. Pleasant. The Inn was the perfect place, situated in the beautiful Ion community, close to shopping, restaurants, the beach and downtown Charleston. The room was perfect for us, with two queen beds, a refrig. and plently of space. It was clean, service was excellent and breakfast a treat. We will be back, very soon. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves quaint and quality at the same time.

Excellent stay! We will definitely be going back to stay here! Great location minutes from beaches, downtown, and local attractions. My only complaint is they syrup was served freezing cold which then made your waffles cold. Everything else was perfect.
5 on June 04, 2016
Our room was tastefully decorated quiet and clean. The balcony was furnished with two large white rockers and a small table. We enjoyed the hanging baskets of red blooming Geraniums and the view of the tree shaded street below. Breakfast was served on time as we ordered from the menu the day before. The shrimp and grits were amazing. All portions were generous. All personnel were friendly and willing to share information about the Charleston area. My only complaint was that the light on the desk did not work and I had to sit on the bed to read and work on my computer.

We stayed in room #6 which was beautiful. The food and staff were excellent
4.8 on May 28, 2016
The Inn is located in the beautiful I'on community in Mt. Pleasant, which is located across the river from Charleston. It is within walking distance of some very good restaurants (e.g., Langdon) and an easy ten minute drive from the heart of Charleston's restaurant district on Bay Street. The rooms are large and comfortable. Ours had a second story porch with rocking chairs perfect for relaxing. The breakfast, which is included, is generous and hearty. Every member of the staff we encountered was friendly and helpful. This inn is a great value. We come through Charleston frequently, and the Inn will be our headquarters going forward.
4.2 on May 01, 2016
The rooms are lovely and quiet and parking was easy but there is no comfortable lobby to meet other guests. Our welcome was not warm and there was no offer to assist with luggage. I also found it odd that a B&B would not serve breakfast or even provide written directions to a nearby restaurant for breakfast .

A perfect alternative to the more chaotic downtown Charleston yet only a few minutes away...quiet, lovely & peaceful small community near beaches, shops, all. Loved the little southern balcony porch off the bedroom. Only challenge can be thin walls so can hear neighboring room noise. But mgt has policy that supports guests respect peace & quiet. Worked overall. Will return!

I need a clean, pathogen free room when I leave home, due to asthma and numerous allergies. This is one of the cleanest places I have stayed in and every breakfast is delicious. I am not particular and like most food, but it was great to have input each day. This is unusual in the places where I have stayed. I also have very precise tastes when I order eggs and they were always perfect, as were the grits. I will be using goat cheese due to my stay here. It is inspiring, not routine. The cleanliness rating above should go higher and I would pick this if I could. Valerie Hickey, Ohio

We stayed at the Inn at Ion for the second time (2014 and 2016). We plan to stay there on future trips. The room (Room 1) was very quiet. The furnishings are very nice. We used the fireplace in the morning since there was a chill in the air early in the morning. It warmed up the room quickly. It is enjoyable to sit out on the porch mid-morning and early evening. The breakfast is very good. Just be sure to know that a breakfast is not available on Mondays. We suggest walking over to the Coffee Connection (a five minute walk). The location of the Inn is perfect. A 10 minute ride is all it takes to get downtown. Our daughter lives over in West Ashley and it takes us 25 minutes to travel there. I would have given an outstanding rating for the room if the bed had been firmer. The middle of the mattress made it difficult to get out of easily.

I have only stayed at a few Bed and Breakfast locations but The Inn at Ion exceeded my expectations. The staff was courteous and informative. From the front door through to the porch off of the room, this place was immaculate as far as cleanliness. My Mom was a domestic worker so I have always been particular about noticing these things. I also travel for a living so I stay in a lot of hotels. This was a wonderful place to stay and the bed very comfortable. When I originally read the reviews and customers made comments about the street noise I was a little worried but upon my stay I found it did not bother me at all. It is a great place to stay away from the hustle and bustle. To the staff, thank you for making my stay a great experience.

This place is truly the best kept secret in Charelston! I found it on line while researching places to stay for a September wedding. I just didn't want to stay at a chain hotel and found the Inn at I'on randomly and took a chance. I even talked another couple into taking a chance, too. Boy... am I ever glad we did. I will never forget this place, and neither will my friends. I can still taste Fernando's (their chef) breakfast shrimp and grits and his cherizo, pepper and egg wraps...mmmm. Mike and his staff provided friendly, curtious service. An evening glass of wine in the rocking chairs on our deck off our room.priceless. I could go on (and on) but I'll let you go make your reservation and find out for yourself! Ps the neighborhood is amazing...walk around shopping, and don't miss the Irish pub across the street and the Belgian Gelato place a couple of blocks away!! I

They don't serve breakfast on Mondays, which we didn't mind since there's a great coffee shop within walking distance (Collective Coffee Co.)!

The Inn at Ion was comfortable and well appointed. The only problem we had was with noise. The walls are very thin and there is a lot of traffic on the road our room faced. Each room has a designated parking spot. Very nice and convenient. Also breakfast is $15 a person extra. The pool was just down the street at a country club and was wonderful.
Please be advised that breakfast is included FREE with you room (2 guests per room)....only when you have additional guests that are not staying at the Inn or you have more than 2 people staying in the room is there an additional $15.00 per person charge for breakfast...

Visiting Charleston for a few days. The Inn at Ion provided a great quiet location for our family of 4. Close to beaches & a short drive to Charleston. Access to a pool was a bonus. The breakfast provided was delicious! We enjoyed placing our order the night before & having our breakfast ready for us. We would highly recommend staying here.

Located across the bay in a quiet neighborhood of Mt. Pleasant, this is a wonderful relaxing place to stay within walking distance of a great restaurant, Langdon's, and easy driving distance of its sister restaurant, Opal, which is also outstanding. And there are lots of other great places to eat in Mt. Pleasant. The Club at Ion privilege is fantastic -- you won't find a better swimming pool anywhere.

We made a last minute reservation at the Inn and were very happy with our stay. The room was fantastic (third floor of the inn) and it was great being so close to the beach and downtown Charleston. It was nice that breakfast was included, but I would say it was just ok (had the chicken and waffles). We will definitely stay again!

Beautiful room in Jacob Bond house. Super clean, weak wireless, had to hotspot from my phone. Nice courtyard to sit and drink and ION is great setting for nightime walks. Obinions is a very cool pub on the square. Breakfast was consistently bad all three days. Obvious frozen waffles, biscuits, and sausage, and the eggs were cold and rubbery. Deep fried potatoes can't go wrong. Probably the worst biscuit I've ever had. Biscuits are easy, why not make fresh! Should have something like bagels and lox too. Great servers but food is poor. Each day we got something that was still frozen in the center. Man that runs/owns? place seems chilly and uncaring. All over good value and would return but probably skip the breakfast and instead get closeby Hardee's for the courtyard.

Beautiful Inn, nice surroundings, delicious meals... But most of all GREAT people! Home... Away from home!!

Upon arrival the employee at the front desk checked us in but didn't seem very knowledgeable about the area. He did offer us a brochure that he appeared to just discover behind the desk. Later as I came down the stairs I saw a map behind the desk that hadn't been offered to us, so I helped myself to one. The building appears new and clean. Once we got to the 3rd floor where our room was located, I noticed a strong smell. I later put two and two together and realized it's from the large wool rugs in the rooms. Wool emits a smell when wet, and the location is very humid. The room was spacious and clean. The vent in the restroom was broken, and I was told not to worry about it even though the paper you receive upon check in says if you do not turn the vent on during showers you risk setting of fire alarms...The vent was never fixed, and I was under the impression it has been broken for some time. Luckily the fire alarms were never set off. The shower was the biggest negative. The temperature would either be really cold or really hot no matter how I turned the handle, and the water pressure was poor. The best part of staying here was getting the delicious breakfasts. The bed was comfortable, but there were only 2 pillows. I would suggest providing 4-5.

My wife and I went to charleston South Carolina area for the first time to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary. We were not sure what to expect when booking a room at the Inn at I'on but we're were pleasantly surprised at everything we found. We hav already decided that we will be returning to stay here again

The room and the breakfast were fantastic. Unfortunately the internet was not available in our room even though we were told it was working. There was no microwave or refrigerator in our room, and there was not always someone available to help. It was not a typical bed and breakfast, but the location was good for enjoying Mt. Pleasant and convenient for going into Chrleston.

We had a family trip to Charleston and our experience with the Inn at Ion was overall great. The room was surprisingly spacious and clean. Surrounding area was nice and safe. We had no problem driving to downtown Charleston in a couple minutes, and the Inn was also minutes' drive to the murine museum. The only disappointment was that the wifi at Bond house was not working during our whole stay and the inn didn't further communicate with us after we report the problem to them.

Our room was very private and very nice. The area was all newish construction including the bed and breakfast which we actually thought was nice. Good restaurants in very close walking distance. The breakfast was excellent. We will definitely think about going back!

Our stay was great and this is our second experience at the Inn. The rooms are beautiful and very well kept. One small issue. There were several water bugs in the bathroom. I guess that happens in the South with the extreme humidity and heat.
5 on May 11, 2015
We loved this inn. So clean and full of character. Large room and spa-like bathroom. The only issue we had was running out of hot water in the morning while showering. This Inn is like home, but better! Super friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was delicious, too. Nice area in a quaint upscale neighborhood. Just minutes away from downtown. Will definitely stay again on our next trip to Charleston.

My wife and I spent the night in room 6 and could not have been more satisfied. The room was immaculate and very well decorated and included a very spacious bathroom. The breakfast was one of the best I ever had. We are looking forward to our next visit.

This is a perfect way to visit Charleston and Mt Pleasant. The Inn is just right by the bridge to Chsrleston and Old Mt Pleasant is close too . There are four rooms that open to a porch. Be sure to ask for one of them! We will stay there again!

The only negative aspect of our stay was check-in. The young girl was not able to answer our questions, and did nothing to find the answers. But other than that our stay was wonderful. The room was beautiful, very comfortable, and super clean. Breakfasts were delicious, with an extensive menu to choose from. Housekeeping did a fine job. The room was a good value for the price and I would not hesitate to stay there again in the future.

I've named my review, The Hidden Gem, because The Inn at Ion is tucked away in a quaint pristine town call Ion. Everything about this B&B met my needs. I had a room on the third floor with an efficiency. Everything was so clean and neat, the breakfast was exactly what I ordered and delicious each morning, the staff was very friendly, and there was a wonderful fitness center guests had access to. I rate this B&B a solid 10. The next time I'm back in town, this is the only place I plan to stay.

Looking for a nite's stay while attending the family circle tennis. The room was great and the checkin was easy. Took a water taxi to charleston which worked out really well. Great value for the money and a nice area. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We stayed here as we took our daily trips into Charleston. The Inn at I'on was beautiful with great service and convenient breakfasts. Not a lot to do in the immediate area but it is only a drive over the bridge to get into Charleston.
4.4 on April 05, 2015
Do not pass up the opportunity to stay here. Compared to inns in Charleston, it is a much better value, and you do not give up anything except for proximity to downtown. The Ion area more than makes up for this, as there are walking trails and shops within easy walking distance. Public beaches are an easy 10-15 minute drive. Bed was comfortable, room was clean and attractive. Breakfast was good. Other than check-in and breakfast, there is not staff readily available, so this inn is for experienced, independent travelers who can take care of themselves. Overall, a very good inn!

My boyfriend and I made a quick getaway to Charleston and stayed at the inn last night. The room was beautiful; spacious, wonderfully decorated, and clean. The bathroom was also spectacular with a large tub and modern style. The bed was so comfortable! Sadly what disappointed us was how loud people were and the slamming of the door constantly (between their room door and the hallway door.) I could hear conversations as they were quite loud. We went downstairs to inform someone but no one was there. I didn't see anyone but when we checked in and ate breakfast. Breakfast was also lackluster. The food was somewhat decent but service was quite unprofessional. The waitress was inappropriately dressed , gave our sides to someone else, and didn't come back and check with us. I felt the place was very classy but the waitress wearing sweatpants and a tshirt took away from the atmosphere, in my opinion. Our room was immaculate, but the noise and disappointing breakfast dampened the visit.

My husband and I were on vacation for our one year wedding anniversary and our stay at the Inn at I'on was outstanding! We stayed in the Jacob Bond house and the room was absolutely beautiful and so clean! We loved the community and the hospitality. The breakfast was excellent every morning and we loved walking around town. We also really loved that the health club was available to us as an extra perk for staying at the Inn. I would HIGHLY recommend the Inn at I'on to anyone visiting Charleston/Mount Pleasant! We would also definitely come back and stay here again too!

My husband and I stay at the Inn at least four times a year when visiting Charleston. For us, there isn't anywhere else to stay. From the moment we arrive, we feel as though we are home. Mike and his staff are incredibly accommodating, the rooms are beautifully decorated, the bed is amazingly comfortable and it makes our stay in Charleston just that much nicer. You won't find a better place to stay.

This is our 2nd visit to the Inn. We were with our sixteen year old grandson this visit. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was just as ordered and we like the menu plan. We stayed in Room #5 and found it suitable for the three of us. The only need is for a comfortable chair for seating to read or relax or watch TV. The only option is either to view TV from the bed or the "day bed." A good comfortable chair would be an excellent addition to this room. Next time in Charleston we would stay at the Inn again.
Thanks for your suggestion in regards to additional seating in room 5....our rooms are designed for 2 guests per room however some such as room 5 have the ability to allow a 3rd guest if needed but on those occasions the room will become crowded....the brass twin day bed that was used by your third guest is usually used as a comfy sofa complete with several fluffy throw pillows to watch TV when there are only 2 guests in that room.....hope to see you soon

We had an easy/ stress free quick overnight stay at the Inn. We received a phone call the day of our arrival to confirm our check in time. We were greeted and given our keys and inn information facts. The next morning we were served a delightful breakfast. Very laid back and relaxing experience.

We enjoyed our stay at the Inn at I'ON. The rooms were lovely, the inn is tucked in a cute little town square of a newer intentional community setting. The lady who checked us in was friendly and helped us figure out parking in Charleston. Unfortunately there were a few things that made our stay a little less than we hoped. The elevator got stuck on our ride up to our 3rd floor room right after check-in. We ended up pressing the 'help' button which connected with the local 911... it eventually lowered on its own and opened up. Apparently this happens from time to time. I have several food allergies (gluten and dairy), which we noted both on the breakfast menu that we submitted the night before, and mentioned again to the waitress when we were seated. I still had to send my plate back to the kitchen, but the dish that came back was without allergens, but bland, overcooked and extra salty. Of course that is okay, however we have dined at other inns where the kitchen went above and beyond. We decided to eat out the rest of our trip, even though breakfast was included in our stay. (Hominy Grill is the place to go for brunch!!) Also, as other reviewers note- there is no common space in the inn- the entry is small and you go directly to your room. The very trendy coffee shop just across the street has great coffee but almost no indoor seating... We enjoyed our stay, it was reasonably priced, right across the bridge from downtown Charleston and, close to Sullivan Island as well as a whole foods, starbucks and Trader Joe's. The rooms were lovely and decently clean, the small staff was friendly enough- but we felt it lacked the heart that makes an inn an extra special place. When we return to Charleston we will probably stay elsewhere.
We apologize for the elevator mishap which happens occasionally as it does with all commercial elevators...as you noted the elevator has a fail safe system which returns within 3 minutes to the first floor and lets the passengers out....the repair service responded with in 90 minutes and had the elevator back in service..... Our menu has all the typical breakfast items of a standard breakfast menu and is full of gluten free and dairy free options for you to choose and build your own breakfast selections from and this has available to our allergy concerned guests for 6 years and this is the first complaint we have had about this.... Our Inn does not have an indoor common area as you noted but several of our rooms have great outdoor cover porches, we have a large covered porch that seats 16 ppl on the main floor, we have an additional 4 side walk café style umbrella tables that seat 20 ppl, the Jacob Bond House which is our 4 room carriage house has a lovely ornate southern courtyard/garden with stucco walls and wrought iron gates which seats an additional 16 ppl at Charleston wrought iron tables and chairs... We strive to keep our price points very affordable and offer well appointed and comfortable rooms within minutes of all the great Charleston sites. Our breakfast is always good and our service is always friendly. We could easily offer over the top gourmet breakfasts and increase staff ratio to attend to your every need 24/7 but that would require a substantial increase and rates and we have discovered that most of our guests appreciate the value....

We stayed in 2 rooms due to scheduling. Both rooms were lovely. Our 1st room was on the 2nd floor which had a wonderfully large bathroom and a lovely balcony. We missed the balcony when we moved to the 3rd floor. The beds were big and cozy. We slept like babies. The staff moved our luggage from one room to the other for us while we were out. We had a choice of 8 or 10 breakfasts every morning. Cooked to order and fresh. Our rooms were clean and well supplied. Best of all, the staff was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We had a great stay and would highly recommend staying at the I'ON.

Lovely, charming place. I would definitely stay there again. I wouldn't call it luxury, but it was quaint and homey. I was staying by myself, and I felt safe. It was also very roomy and clean. There are actually two buildings; one across the street from what you see pictured which is where I stayed. I had a little bit of trouble negotiating my luggage through the gate of the courtyard to get to the room. The breakfast was outstanding. The place was definitely worth the price.
4.2 on March 12, 2015
The room was furnished with lovely furniture, the kind that would be in an upscale, Architectural Digest home. The cost of such a room was half what we would have expected for such a beautifully appointed room. Bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows to choose from. The service was weak, though, due to understaffing. We were out of our room from 9am to 3:00pm and no maid service had come. Also, we had scheduled an 8:00am breakfast, and we're not served until 8:30. ( you fill out a menu sheet and give it to them the night before)

A couple minutes off Rt. 17 in Mt. Pleasant, SC is the best "change of pace" place to spend the night. The Inn at Ion offers a quiet hideaway to escape normal hotel atmosphere. A few rooms offering a ton of space each.....more then you have at home....creates a pleasant get-a-way yet is just minutes from all the sites of Charleston, SC. Breakfast is a special time at the Inn at Ion. Order a truly fulfilling southern style breakfast that will carry you through the day. Promise you won't need lunch! It's the south so enjoy the low key, friendly atmosphere with people who care about making you happy and comfortable.

It was like walking onto a movie set! The small town is very clean and inviting. Close to Charleston and a super place on the water to eat located at Shems Creek area. Breakfast menu to choose the night before has many options. Breakfast is served at the Inn. We stayed in room 9 across from the inn that was restored beautifully. The price was right and we would recommend this B&B inn. York, PA

We love this Inn. Great atmosphere, old South Charm and lovely streets to walk. The breakfast is very good. Service is great. We would like the staff to clean the floors better. No one wants to walk on other peoples hairs and dirt. The only problem other than the floors we have had was on our last visit when someone pounded on all of the room doors for almost 2 hours in the middle of the night. We suspect it was a drunk customer who could not remember his room number. We will be returning.

Not a bad stay. Floor was tile so a bit cold. You could hear people walking in room above us. My credit card was charged 12 days before our stay. I was surprised about that. Typically I expect the charge to post on my card the day of departure.
As with most bed and breakfast inns we do charge a deposit at the time you book your reservation. That deposit is normally 50% unless as in your case where you only booked for one night then the deposit is the full amount of your stay......rooms 8 and 9 are the only rooms that have tile floors however there is also a very plush 9ft by 12ft oriental rug in those rooms as well. The other 9 rooms all have rustic oak hardwood floors and 9ft by 12ft plush oriental rugs.....

Everything was great a the Inn.....except the noise from other rooms and the hallway.
Thank you for your feedback about your stay...We are a small Inn so the rooms are close together but because all our interior walls have 6 inches of spray foam insulation we very seldom get noise complaints...it "sounds" to me that you may have had a guest in an adjacent room that was being excessively loud and they disrupted your stay...this does not happen very often but if and when it does our staff or myself are available at any time to speak to that guest/room to quiet them down....we even go a step further with our guest check in paperwork that all guests sign at check in which states "any noise or behavior that is disruptive to other guests will result in a damage fee of $250.00 or the total cost of any rooms that choose to depart due to that disruptive noise or behavior"...We take this issue very seriously and as such have very few situations like you experienced....I am sure had we been informed about the noise we could have handled it to your satisfaction... Thank You Mike Russo

On our first trip we were only booked for one night, however after checking in to this lovely Inn, we already wished we had booked another night! The room was beautiful and spotless! The king size bed was very comfortable and the fireplace made it even more romantic! The bathroom was spacious and clean and the tub was oversized and so great for a relaxing bath! The porch with rocking chairs topped off this lovely space. The breakfast was wonderfully prepared! We have already booked our next trip for my partner's birthday next month! I have a feeling this will be our new place to stay when visiting Charleston area!

We stayed at the Inn for a long weekend and had a wonderful experience. Across the board, all of the staff were very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Dining is limited to breakfast only, but breakfast was spectacular. Our room was very clean, the bed quite comfortable, and despite the cold weather, it was nice to be able to go out on the covered porch overlooking the main street. The neighborhood is very pedestrian friendly & safe for runners / walkers, and the location is centrally located for access to Mt. Pleasant, Sullivan's Island, & Downtown. If you plan to spend the majority of your time in Downtown Charleston, there are likely more convenient locations right downtown, but for us, the location was great. My only suggestion is that it would be nice to have a chair or loveseat in the room to sit on so that we wouldn't be limited to a desk chair or the bed, but this is a minor complaint in the big picture of our stay.

2 night stay in early December. Stayed in room 9 which is across the street from the main Inn. Very spacious room. It dawned on me that this must double as a meeting room as the TV is a decent distance from the bed & there's an exit sign inside the room that illuminates in red when the lights are off. This didn't bother us though. We love this neighborhood & it's an excellent location. The breakfast was really good, fresh cooked to your order & a great selection to choose from on the menu. Our server was attentive, please be sure to tip accordingly even though the breakfast is included in your room rate. By far a better value than the usual Hampton Inn that we stay at This will be our home away from home anytime we're in the area.

Our son's wedding was in Charleston and all aspects of this event were downtown except the rehearsal dinner for 120 people. We reserved the Creek Club for this special night. ( an absolute perfect choice! ). With so much to do we were decided to get 5 rooms at the Inn for our family and guests. The location was perfect! Only a few minutes from the Creek Club and blocks from all the shopping you might need. This quaint area was beautiful. The Inn it self made the weekend so much more comfortable. The rooms were spacious and nicely decorated but had all the modern amenities you need. Breakfast served everyday was excellent. I have no hesitation to recommend this hotel to anyone. I'm trying to think of a new reason for a weekend away just to stay here again!

Ignore the crabby reviewers -- this is a lovely property with private rooms and baths and friendly, helpful staff in a pretty suburb minutes from downtown Charleston. This is more like an inn than a B&B -- rooms have private baths, guests come and go as they please, diners sit separately during breakfast. I loved the privacy. The two women who staff the front desk are incredibly helpful. My daughter was under-the-weather during a portion of our stay, and they recommended a pharmacy, pediatrician, etc. Beach club is a few blocks away and more like a community pool than a private club, but nice enough. A good restaurant and coffee shop are in a nearby shopping plaza. This is a city suburb, so lots of highway traffic, but the inn is located in a nice, quiet enclave. Great place to stay if you don't mind a little driving to get to sights and beaches!

Nice Inn in a planned community that seems older than it is. Beautiful rooms and porches, but wished there was a common room to hang out with traveling companions (rooms were too small and too cold for porches!) A few small things were overlooked: tea bags as well as coffee in the rooms, a list of breakfast places for Monday mornings when it's not provided. An enhancement to this situation would be to offer a self-service breakfast bar of granola/ fruit/ beverages on Mondays - all these are on the menu and would have been greatly appreciated!

After trying to find a decent hotel in Charleston for less than $450 a night, we found Inn on I'On. And what a find it was! After a little initial frustration with the check-in time, everything was great! (If you need to check in later than 9pm, be sure to give them plenty of advance notice; we had to miss dinner reservations with friends in order to get to the Inn before check-in time closed. They were inflexible on this even with four hours notice.) We stayed in The Jacob Bond House, room 11. It was large, very clean, and the bed was fantastic! Our room looked out into a cute little courtyard. The Inn was very quiet and cozy. The staff was very friendly and courteous. The location of the Inn is great-close to downtown, and accessible to everything, yet tucked away far enough to be nice and quiet and relaxing. We will definitely be staying at The Inn, again.

This inn was constructed just a few years ago, but the use of hardwoods for floors and details, the size of our room, the furniture (no press board!) and lighting made it feel like an authentic building with all the modern amenities. We are not connoisseurs of old properties, but it had a really great feeling, and I would recommend it again.

I loved the Inn at I'On. My room was so beautiful, smelled good, and was very clean! I wanted for nothing. Perfect place to spend my Anniversary! The food was awesome and prompt every morning...and tasted wonderful. I really have no complaints except that my toilet seat was a little loose, so I felt like I was gonna fall off every time I used the bathroom, hahaha. But I just took it in stride. The bath was huge with a lovely rain shower head, water was hot, towels were plentiful, extra blanket in the armoire, Room was nice and cool, and the plantation shutters were beautiful. I really just loved it. Two thumbs up guys!! Keep up the good work!

Great food and people. But the room I was in Bond room number 8 was on the ground floor of a strip mall with multiple windows affronting the strip mall. This made it loud and bright for most of my stay. The room was also located a block away from the "dining area" which was somewhat inconvienent.
Thanks for you input and we are certainly thrilled you enjoyed our food and staff...Like most Bed and Breakfast Inns we have multiple rooms (11 rooms)and they are all different...The room you stayed in room 8 is not our best but still a very nice room it is however our least expensive room..That is the only room that fronts the street and all the other rooms at the Jacob Bond House are our best rooms...It is located directly across the small common green space of Ion square from the main Inn...about 50 yards ...for you golfers about a half sandwedge away....

This was our first time staying at a bed and breakfast. The room was lovely, spacious, and cozy. The bathroom was large and the shower was wonderful. It's location was nice and close to everything. The breakfast was good, but not great. I would stay there again.

Stayed at The Inn at Ion for 4 nights last week. Had a delightful stay. The location is in the quiet development of I'ON in Mt Pleasant, a quick 10 minute drive to Charleston. Room was very nice. The restaurant is closed except for breakfast, but the breakfast is outstanding. I took advantage of the Ion Club which has a pool, tennis courts, and a very nice workout facility. We didn't have any service needs, but the front desk is only open after 3:00. But, the manager is only a phone call away. If you are looking for a quiet, comfortable stay with a great breakfast, The Inn ant I'ON is a great place.

It was my first time at the Inn. We will be back. My son lives in Mt. Pleasant - Braemore. His house was full so stayed at inn. Was within walking distance and made it all easy. Room was very comfortable.

My girlfriend and I chose Inn at Ion when visiting Charleston SC because it seemed convenient & afdordable. I have to tell you it really exceeded our expectations in every way! First off when we arrived in our room that was across from the inn at the Bond House we were very impressed. My girlfriend immediately went to the bathroom to the big bear tub! I was impressed by the size of the room and the gorgeous but non working fireplace that I had brought candles to fill with and that worked fine! Has a wonderful garden patio to hang out in and have wine. Which is another thing I wanted to mention is Whole Foods is right around the corner. Yep another A+ The next thing i would like to mention is the wonderful breakfasts that are served at union hall the in house restaurant. The food is gorgeous & so is the coffee. Speaking of coffee let me tell you there are 2 amazing coffee shops in walkin distance from the inn. One is Grind & Sqeeze which is a coffee/juice/wine bar that has the best latte ever and comfy chairs and couches to sit outside and relax. The other is the uber cool coffee scientists down the street at collective coffee co. Amazing! So let's get back to our vacation and having Charleston at our fingertips because it's such a convenient drive. Basically to come out if the adorable little neighborhood that the in is set in. Like a movie set actually. You get on the road drive over that beautiful bridge and it's basically first exit off. So it was almost as if we were right there but also having a quiter and more peaceful place to go home to. Yes after a day or so it felt to us like home. I'm not getting paid or forced to do some amazing review but I honostly & truly loved that we made the choice to stay at Inn at Ion for our romantic Charleston getaway! We stayed 4 nights and truly didn't want to leave and it was affordable, convenient & exceeded our expectations in every way!!!!

My husband and I booked The Ion Inn to enjoy a nice relaxing weekend away from our 2 year old twin boys, and the Ion Inn was the perfect place to do this. We absolutely loved it! The rooms were fabulous, the breakfast was delicious, and the service was great. It was also quiet so we got a wonderful nights sleep. We loved the community it is located in and took advantage of the pool at the Ion Club. We also enjoyed walking around enjoying the beautiful scenery. The location is great too. We like to enjoy Sullivan's Island as well as dinner downtown so staying in between is a great way to do it. You also can't beat the value of this inn. We've stayed many places downtown including a bed and breakfast or 2 and this by far outweighs our experiences there for half the price. I highly recommend booking a reservation at the Inn at Ion. You won't be disappointed.

The Inn at I'on was a wonderful place to stay just outside Charleston. Great location in a nice community. Right across the street from a great pub with good food and service. The breakfast at the Inn each morning was delicious, the room (room 1 is where we stayed) was clean, had modern furniture with a feel of exactly what you want a BnB to be and the rec facilities down the street were a great plus. Well worth the price! Definitely want to return with some other friends and make a fun couples weekend staying at the Inn at I'on again.

The room was outstanding! The morning breakfast hours are a little tight, I'd prefer to have breakfast start at 7am. Also, getting in contact with the front desk is difficult. However, our stay was great and breakfast far exceeded my expectations.

I stayed at the Inn for only one night and there was no breakfast served on Monday mornings, so I am unable to review the dining. However, the Inn and my room, in particular, were absolutely lovely. No hokey B&B decor. Beautiful designs, bed linens and a superbly outfitted bathroom. I cannot wait to return!

We staid at this B&B for 3 nights and we had a good experience. The breakfast was nice but the choices were limited.
Thank you for your input...We are a small Inn who serves breakfast only to the guests of our 11 rooms...We offer a breakfast daily that includes Cooked to order omelettes, eggs scrambled, fried, poached or over easy, orange infused french toast, Belgium waffles, breakfast burritos, breakfast sandwiches, Fried Chicken and Waffles, Shrimp and Grits, Oatmeal, Granola,Breakfast Bowls with homefries, eggs, cheese sausage and country ham, Fresh Fruit and yogurt bowls...all this is available on a daily basis....We feel this is a very varied breakfast menu for a small Inn however we always remain open to new menu suggestions....

Our stay at the Inn at Ion was disappointing on several levels. While the room itself was very comfortable, the fan in the bathroom was completely inadequate. Because of this, everything IN the bathroom became covered in heavy condensation after one shower of average length.. The shower itself was very nice though. Also, there was old coffee in our pot. We purposefully left our "Do Not Disturb" sign outside our door, so were quite dismayed to return and find the room had been straightened, and the bed made! "Do Not Disturb" should NEVER be violated by the staff unless there is an emergency! Because of this, we felt our privacy was violated. The breakfast was good, except for the seasonal fruit which had obviously sat too long and was becoming fermented! And lastly, as we were departing, the man at the desk barely acknowledged us, and didn't seem to care if we ever came back. This by the apparent proprietor of the establishment! So all in all, we were not left with a favorable impression, the desire to repeat the experience, or that we were viewed as valued customers. While the fan, food and lack of friendliness were disappointing, the fact that our room was attended to even though the "Do Not Disturb" sign was clearly in view was very unsettling and inexcusable. One should never have to be concerned about their privacy being violated in such a place.

My husband and I have been staying in bed and breakfasts and inns for almost 36 years. The Inn at Ion was one of the most beautiful and most immaculate inns we ever had the pleasure to visit. Additionally, the staff could not have been nicer. We loved everything about our stay, from the rooms, the excellent breakfasts, the staff, and the great advise on restaurants and places to visit in the area. We would highly recommend this inn to anyone, even the most particular travelers.

Room was large, felt very spacious, and was very clean. The inn was a short drive away from downtown Charleston, but far enough out of the way that it was quiet and not over-populated with tourists. Loved the older feel of the place, but since it was recently built, I appreciated the up-to-date plumbing and electricity! Will surely stay here again the next time I visit. DID NOT DINE AT THE INN; COULD NOT FAIRLY RATE.

For a last minute decision to travel, a friend recommended this Bed and Breakfast. The Inn at I'on did not disappoint. The room was very cute and exactly what it looked like on line. Not much interaction with the staff, but that's ok, because we weren't visiting the staff but the beach and downtown Charleston. Definitely will be back to The Inn at I'on for our next visit!

This has to be one of the quietest places we have ever stayed The beds were very comfortable. The room had two beds, but only one chair for additional seating. The breakfast on Sunday was delicious, just wished they had also served breakfast on Monday. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return some day.

I never expected to cross the river on the big bridge from Charleston to find a little bit of France. As soon as we turned off the main road in Mt Pleasant to look for our inn I was pleasantly surprised by the charm. There is a village square on which the inn and it's annex sit that felt very European. Our room was in the annex and was one of the most well-appointed hotel rooms I've ever been in. Everything about it was beautifully done with exquisite attention to detail. Each morning we crossed the square to a delicious breakfast graciously served in the elegant sunroom at the inn. This was the perfect place to plan our day and meet with other travelers comparing notes on the best things to do. There's a fun bar and grill on the square where we had great cheeseburgers one night and a wonderful deli where you can grab a delicious picnic lunch or a bottle of wine and snacks for your room. Walking beyond the inn through the neighborhood you'll pass gorgeous homes a/la Charleston. One woman I met on the square told me people move to I'on because it reminds them of what Charleston used to be. On your walk you might come upon the town rookery with a quiet nature trail around a large pond you can view from two lookout towers. The Inn at I'on was the perfect place to return to after a busy day in Charleston. I highly recommend this charming retreat.

The food served for breakfast was fantastic and better than any breakfast I've had at many brunch spots. The room was spacious and cutely decorated, though the bed could have been a little more comfortable. There is a beautiful courtyard right outside the James Bond house rooms, which was so nice to sit in, with the sun and flowers all around. We really enjoyed our stay, and would recommend this b&b for other visits!

We spent our wedding anniversary at The Inn at Ion we could not have had a better experience. The location was very quite and peaceful and we especially enjoyed sitting on the porch in the rocking chairs. The accommodations were very nice and comfortable. The breakfast was very good and the staff was great. The decor fit the Old Charleston era a very romantic atmosphere. I would recommend this B&B to anyone visiting the Charleston area close to downtown, but away from all the tourist congestion. We will plan on staying there again.

All in all, a great experience. Hope to return.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and had a great experience! The customer service was impeccable, the food was delicious, it's reasonably priced, and it is conveniently located minutes away from downtown Charleston and the beach. My daughter and I stayed in Room 7 a couple of weeks ago (June 2012) and the room was so clean. As clean as hotels in which I have stayed in Switzerland and Stockholm, which is saying a LOT! It felt like staying in someone's home rather than a hotel. It was very quiet and I plan on using a lot of their design ideas in building my new home. The value was fabulous in that we received a full breakfast each day and it was the best breakfast I have ever eaten. The cappucinnos were to die for. And the second night, we received a complimentary dessert of the chocolate pudding direct from the chef which we were able to take to our room. We also had dinner there as well the second night and they knew we were in a hurry to make our sailing trip and the food came right away. Despite the white table cloth type of restaurant it is, it felt so comfortable and they even fixed what my daughter wanted for dinner even though it was not on the menu. My daughter is 6 and she raved about the great time we had there. Whenever we go back to Charleston we will always stay there, without a doubt. Fabulous, fabulous hotel.

The Inn has become our home away from home. Me and my wife live in Charlotte and find ourselves staying at the inn whenever we need a weekend away. The hospitality and overall atmosphere defines Charleston. A short cab will get you to the center city, but theres is more than enough within walking distance to keep you busy if you just want to lay low. Thanks for all you do!! Justin & Kim

I always rely on reviews for my decisions on whether to use that service or place. I chose the Inn at Ion for all the good reviews and people were so on target with the reviews. It was our 31st anniversary and I wanted some place close to downtown Charleston and Patriots Pointe. I always have concerns for cleanliness and service. I had never stayed at a Bed and Breakfast before but many of my friends have recommended them. We have always been a hotel type. We were pleasantly surprise by how friendly the staff was! We were a little concern with pricing when looking for a place and this price was within our price range however when we arrived they had upgraded our room since I had put in my request that we were celebrating our anniversary and Mike Russo (Owner) did this with no additional charge. Wow! I could not believe they took it upon themselves to treat us like family. The first night we were there, was our anniversary night and we decide to give their restaurant a try since they had a renown chef who had been on Iron Chef. The food was fabulous and the wait staff was great. When I told our waitress that we were celebrating out anniversary, she brought us 2 glasses of Champagne as a surprise! The rooms were very clean and the furniture was like being at home. We had one small issue that was resolved within 2 mins after we got there. So they were quick to satisfy us. This place is in a cosy area away from the downtown chaos but close enough for all our activities. Downtown Charleston Market was only a 15 min drive and The dinner boat cruise at Patriot Pointe was only a 5 min drive. We enjoyed our stay so much that there is no doubt this will be our place to stay in the future. We highly recommend this to all our friends and family! Defiantly a 5 star place to stay!

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary and we absolutely loved it! The area is very quaint and beautiful. Everyone at the inn was extremely welcoming. Especially Kristi and Fernando who greeted us in the morning for breakfast. The room was a great size, and the breakfast was delicious! My husband claims that his waffle was the best he's ever had, and I had a very filling and tasty omelette. It was a great start to our day. The location was perfect for us considering we were only staying one night we needed something affordable (which was unlikely in downtown charleston). We were able to make it to isle of palms in about 10 minutes to walk along the beach. And had dinner in charleston that night. We'd highly recommend the inn to anyone seeking a cozy getaway.

The rooms are clean, comfortable and beautiful. The food was amazing! Our wedding guests were raving about the food. We loved everything so much we bought ourselves a gift card to return again. We can't say enough wonderful things about the staff, the Inn, the Creek Club and the food at Carter's Kitchen. Highly, highly recommend everything!

We just returned from a wonderful visit staying in The Inn at Ion. Our room was beautifully appointed..the staff could not have been more accommodating. Mike , the Owner/Manager, took time away from his busy schedule of renovations on his restaurant, to write down instructions on how to get to different places that we were going to visit. We want to express to Mike our sincere comments on our gracious and pleasant stay while we were there for our two nights of our vacation get away..Thank you so much..Because of the renovations of the restaurant, we were unable to get breakfast, but were compensated for that loss..The next time, we visit Mt. Pleasant, we will certainly stay with you. Signed : Your Fripp Visitors

We arrived at The Inn at Ion at 2:45pm after a 4 hour drive. When we entered the Inn there was a man standing in the doorway with a clipboard with his glasses down on his nose. He did not even look up to say, "hi". I told him that we were checking in. He looked up from his clip board and then to his watch and said "Check in is not until 3pm, you are early! Let me see if the room is finished!" He did not even look at us. I was stunned at how impersonal he was. We have been to many B&B's and have always been welcomed like we were one of the family. Well not here! We entered Room #4 and it was clean, not spotless, I could tell a few things were not cleaned..the mirror in the corner had a dust on it and the coffee pot was not up to my expectation of cleanliness. The room was beautiful and we were so excited about having a lovely few evenings enjoying the fireplace. In fact, I booked Room #4 because it had a working fireplace. (Xtra Money) We unpacked & flipped the switch to the fireplace and it did not work. We told the guy at the desk that the fireplace was not working on Friday and the next morning we told our waitress, Kristie, about the fireplace too and they both said they will tell Mike. To make a long story short we had no fireplace the entire stay and they didn't offer anything until Friday morning when Kristie asked us if we wanted to switch rooms. We were leaving Saturday and did not want to move our things as we were going out. Mike Russo never came up to us once during our stay and apology or even acknowledge us. In fact my husband said hi to him on Friday night and he just grunted and stared at his computer. What a great Host!!! NOT!! Another disappointment was the mattress in our room. It was very uncomfortable and we sunk in the middle of the bed. We didn't sleep very well. I would not recommend staying here until the Innkeeper, Mike Russo, takes a training course in guest relations!!!

After staying at the downtown hotels in Charleston, I thought I would try the ION after sourcing on the internet. WHAT A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE. NOT ONLY WAS THE SETTING VERY COMFORTABLE AND RELAXING, THE SERVICE WAS IMPECCABLE, COURTEOUS AND ENGAGING. WILL DEFINITLY STAY AGAIN.

This Inn is amazing. The rooms are gorgeous, and the balconies are DARLING. The restaurant is truly a gem. We ate there the first night after a day of travelling. It was so good that we returned the second night instead of venturing back into Charleston proper for dinner. The menu is incredible, and the price is VERY reasonable for both the quantity and quality of food. You'd expect food and service of this caliber at a MUCH higher price point. Both servers that we had (on the two nights) were among the best we've ever had. They were so friendly and interesting - I don't think we've ever enjoyed talking with our servers so much at a meal. And if that sounds weird, that's part of the charm here: it's such a quaint, friendly place that all of the staff makes you feel like old friends. This place would be worth the trip just for the room OR for the dining alone, but putting them together....WOW. I don't think you'll find a better value for this kind of experience. It goes without saying that the entire village at I'on is darling. If you stay at I'On, make sure you visit the other shops and the chocolatier (!). The shopkeepers are all really friendly people. This whole experience was divine!!

I recently stayed in the GEORGEOUS room 4, and absolutely loved every minute of it! My room was extremely clean, and comfortable. Outside of the room, was a private deck where I sat in my own Charlestonian rocking chair, with lush plants, sipping my coffee in the mornings, and wine in the evening. Breakfast is OUT OF THIS world...honestly, it's included in the price of the room, and you can order an array of different yummy breakfast items. Fernando and Kristy were so gracious that I felt right at home. I wouldn't pass up the Shrimp and grits, or the French toast!! I'on is a wonderful place to stay in Mount Pleasant. Within walking distance to grocery, and little shops. Minutes from downtown, or the beach.....I couldn't have asked for a better Vacation!

Great place to retreat. Comfy, quiet with definite Charlestown style. Easy to get to downtown Charleston or the beach, but much quieter. Big plus (in my mind) is that it is located within a block of a great chocolatier (Christophe), who has a store in I'on and downtown Charlestown.

Everything about the stay was exceptionally good. In particular, the staff was extremely well trained and anticipated many of our needs. In addition, since the Inn is small, they remembered our preferences from one day to the next. Outstanding breakfast in pleasant surroundings. Rooms are beautiful.

First impression-attractive, big windows, nice. As soon as we were alone, I got some tissue and picked up the dead roaches-chalked that up to arriving early and the room didn’t get the “once over.” As I flushed the debris in the toilet, a swarm of mosquitoes flew out. They would haunt us later. Leaving the bathroom I looked straight ahead out the window, and it was then I realized, looking at a UPS truck, that the 3 sets of beautifully draped windows let in natural light at the expense of our privacy – they were directly onto the sidewalk of the town square! This room is not in a house, it is a STOREFRONT! I immediately shut the drapes.I could hear the kids gathered in the square, assumed they could hear us also. That night, as my husband and I curled up in the comfy bed, we heard what we thought were dogs barking in the next room. Investigation found the fountain outside our back door full of frogs, all pleading for mates. It went on, at regular 10 minute intervals, until 3:00a.m. Had the fountain been flowing, the frogs wouldn’t have partied there. There is no place to sit but a straight-backed wooden chair. The back entrance is under an overhang that creates a perfect place for mosquitoes- every time the door opens, they fly in. Roaches in the morning were left for the cleaners. At least they were dead. I’m sure that for private parties our room is a fine space. As a bed & breakfast room, it is totally inadequate. The price is the same as rooms in the real house, with no indication that the experience will be anything different. If the price had been less, I would have assumed it to be inferior. I would certainly not recommend staying at Jacob’s “House”.
We are very sorry you did not enjoy your stay. The room you are talking about is room 8 in the Jacob Bond House. It is the least attractive of our 11 rooms and we only book it when all other rooms are sold out. Being that it faces the square it can also be a little noisy. The fountain is natural and it does flow and we have since had the frogs removed. palmetto bugs are always a problem on ground floors in Charleston and we always go through rooms before arrival but your early unexcpected check in may have precluded the last minute go over..We are also considering your suggestion of lowering the rate in that room. I can assure you that all the other rooms in the Jacob Bond House are equally as nice as the main Inn and rooms 10 and 11 on the second floor are our largest and 2 of our finest rooms.

We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay during our visit to Charleston. It was close to downtown and to all of the major tourist attractions, yet was out of the real busy areas. It was in a quiet neighborhood with quaint shops and restaurants around. The bed in our room was by far the most comfortable bed we've ever slept on. We felt right at home here and can't wait to come back!

I was initially very hesitant as I never spend this kind of money on one night. It was my wife's 50th birthday and thought it would be worth it. I was not to be disappointed. The rooms were immaculate. The breakfasts..outstanding. The service, without complaint. We were running late due to my job and I had called earlier in the week. With check-in closing at 9 I was worried that this celebration weekend was off to a rough start. The man at the desk was kind and willing to stay until we arrived, to which I was VERY grateful. The Jacob's Kitchen staff were very friendly and accommodating of all of our requests, no matter how obtuse. The I'on community is so homey, and seems so far away, yet only being 5 minutes from Charleston and anywhere you want to eat. My wife and I miss it already, and will be back in the future.

I had never stayed at a bed and breakfast Inn. I was very pleasantly surprised with the personal touches that made our honeymoon so pleasant and memorable. We had just checked into our room, which was exceptionally well decorated in keeping with the old south charm of the Charleston area, when the inn staff delivered 2 glasses of champaign. The hospitality and personal service was this way throughout our stay. With only seven rooms you never felt like you were staying at a crowded hotel. The breakfast included was EXCELLENT and ready exactly when we requested. I would highly recommend this Inn. Mike Russo, the owner, and his staff, constantly made sure that everything was to our liking. Five stars to the room, staff, and service!

My wife and I have been to Charleston many times and have stayed in many different hotels and this is the first time we have stayed in a bed and breakfast. The Inn at I'on far exceeded what we had expected. We will never stay in a hotel in Charleston again. The room was wonderful. It was large, well decorated, very comfortable and we felt very at home. The bathroom was large and the jacuzzi begged you to stay just a little bit longer. The staff was friendly, helpful and as pleasant as you could ask for. The breakfast was wonderful. We both love breakfast and this is as good as it gets. My wife had the shrimp and grits on the second day and it was much better than the shrimp and grits we had the day before in a well respected Charleston restaurant on the peninsula. This was a 5 star plus for us.

This was our first stay, but will definitely not be our last. Everything about our stay was top notch. Nice spacious rooms and bathroom, although we spent most of our time on the lovely balcony. Would highly recommend.

I have had the opportunity to stay at this Inn 7 times since Dec secondary to a hich vacancy ratio. There were times I was the only one in the Inn and because I was offered a "frequent traveler" discount, was made to feel less of a valued guest. My first incident occured a couple months ago when i arrived and noone was available to check me in(apparently I had said i would be there at 4 and arrived at 3). I had no idea I was being held to such a strict timeline. However, I overlooked that and decided to go ahead and stay since I was already in Charleston and await the innkeepers arrival. Most recently I arrived at 1:20 with my sleeping daughter and was turned away once again because checkin wasnt until 3pm. I was told that checkout wasnt until 12 and that NO rooms were ready. I find that difficult to believe as everytime I have stayed I have been gone right after breakfast, but never the less , I found it profoundly poor service to turn away a frequent guest with a sleeping child with no other suggestion than to come back at 3! I failed to mention that everytime I have stayed at the Inn I have eaten at the restaurant and spent upwards of 80.00! Needless to say, I did leave but did not return at 3pm. I hope he spends the 99.00 he got for that night wisely and might suggest a class on southern ettiquette. Although I have recommended it in the past, i will assure everyone I come in contact has all the facts prior to securing a reservation at this establishment.
I am sorry that after 7 stays you had an issue with check in. Your previous stays were in Jan and Feb our very slow time and we were able to allow you to check in early on your stays. From April through Dec we are very busy, April was 93% occupied. Our website clearly states a 3PM check in so when you arrived 2 hours early there was no rooms ready. The inn was sold out the every day that week but one and being a 7 room Inn we clean rooms after breakfast is served. I cannot help it when a guest arrives 2 hours early with no notice and insist that a room be available for him. A simple phone call and we may have been able to get that room ready earlier. During slow times we can often afford our guests early check ins as well as late check outs but one should not assume we are always slow. We wish this guest the best and were happy to have met his excpections on 6 previous stays. Respectfully Mike russo

Recently, my husband and I checked in on a Sunday afternoon for a four night stay. Soon after arriving, we were greeted by Joy, who was a charming and helpful hostess. Unfortunately, Monday and Tuesday were her days off. After returning to our room on Tuesday to find that we had not received room service for the second day in a row, we went down to the desk. As Mike was working in the restaurant, we spoke to the young lady on duty who was gracious and apologetic. We asked to have certain room supplies replenished and were told she would speak to Mike as she did not have the key to the supply room. She assured us our items would be brought up later that evening. Nothing was delivered. The next morning - now Wednesday - at breakfast, we were greeted by Joy who was surprised to learn we had had no room service since check-in. She was extremely apologetic. From that point on - thank you, Joy! - everything was perfect. This is a lovely inn - the rooms were comfortable and beautifully furnished, the restaurant was excellent, and the location is very convenient to downtown Charleston. Unfortunately, our stay was tarnished by the inattention to service displayed by certain staff members.....
I must full resposibility for the issues you had during your stay. I had injured my back on that Sunday and received an MRI on Monday as well as cortisone shots on Tuesday and heavy duty pain medications. There was some miscommunication between myself and Joy who I had asked to work on Tuesday. I would very much like to get you to stay with us again and if you would contact me directly I will arrange a complimentary stay. Thanks Mike Russo

From when I first arrived at the inn I felt welcomed. The room exceeded my expectations. The bed and bathroom were very large and relaxing. The breakfast at Jacobs Kitchen was great. Come prepared with a big appetite. I couldn't finish my food because the portions were big but the food is so good. There are tons of things to do in the area and my boyfriend and I enjoyed exploring and coming back to the inn to rest. Mike was a great host and I can't wait to come back!

This was my first experience with a B&B and I must say, I think I am hooked. We traveled from Louisiana and stayed there for 4 nights and it was grand. Thanks to Joy and Mike for making it such a delightful stay. Princess Z and I really hope to be back soon and will surely book our favorite room. Thank you!

We had a wonderful visit at the Inn in I'on. We were only a short distance to Charleston (6 mins, just across the bridge) which was so convenient. Joy, the innkeeper was so helpful with advice on where to visit/eat and directions. The food at Jacob's kitchen was outstanding! We ate at several places and Jacob's was consistently the best food, wished we could have stayed longer just to eat more!!
We are always so pleased to hear that our Guests enjoyed their stay. Jacob's Kitchen is wonderful for the Guest Breakfast and Brunch or for Lunch and Dinner.
