The Architect's Inn - George Champlin Mason House is a dive! We get there and the front door is locked. I ring the bell and there's no answer. Out front I see - who I later find out was one of the owners – Brian, and tell him that we have reservations. He says to call Nick (his partner) on his cell. Nick doesn't answer his phone, but about 30 minutes later, he opens the door. He tells us to come back in 2 hours - that the room wasn't ready. I explain that it was already after 3:00 PM and that was the check-in time on our confirmation. Again, he says to come back in 2 hours. We asked if we could use the bathroom and he said, "no" that we can find a bathroom in town. Two hours later we’re back at the Architect's Inn. Again, the door is locked and we ring the bell. After 10 minutes Nick lets us in and tells us that our room is on the 3rd floor. My husband and I both have difficulty climbing stairs - especially this steep narrow staircase. When I asked for another room he said that all the other rooms were requested or occupied. I then asked him if he would carry our bags, and his response was, "No, and I'm not your slave." I kid you not. Those were his exact words! The worst part was when we get to our room and find that the garbage can was full, the carpet was filthy, the sheets and towels looked like they were never laundered, there was no way the bathroom was cleaned from the previous renter, and the toiletries were used. This place was such a filthy dive that we decided to leave. When we got downstairs and asked Nick for a refund, he had the audacity to laugh at us. We told him we were going to dispute the charge on our credit card if he didn't refund our money. He then yelled and demanded that we get off his property immediately (the exact words that he uttered aren't fit to write) and until we safely drove away we were literally afraid for our lives. P.S. After booking another B&B that night, AMEX credited us for what we paid to The Architect's Inn.

Murder Mystery Weekend

5 on October 24, 2016

My best friend and I stayed for their Murder Mystery Weekend in October as It was absolutely awesome! The Inn was just so charming and decorated beautifully. The food was delicious and presented with lovely garnishes. The Inn was located within an easy walking distance from numerous quaint restaurants and shops. But the Murder Mystery itself was the crown jewel. We had so much fun from beginning to wicked end. It was a 3-day weekend of real-life clue!

Great Stay! Amazing Place and People!

5 on October 27, 2015

This is my second trip to the Architect's Inn. This time I really put these guys through the ringer. I planned a corporate trip for 40, (Yes 40) people. But the Inn isn't that big, you say? You are absolutely right. Nick, the owner, orchestrated 2 other Inns for us. One being their sister property, Inn Bliss. I also requested a specialized team to take us through a bunch of different places, Fort Adams, Rose Island and the Newport Art Museum. I know I was asking a lot and this would have made anyone else run for the hills. Not Nick! Not only did they manage to arrange everything I asked for, they did it perfectly and with some of the best personality and flair I have ever seen. The food was amazing, the events were perfect and the accommodations at Architect's and Bliss were beyond my expectations. From dietary restrictions to rooms changes, they handled it with ease. Brian, the Chef, is a magician. He must be, no one can make food that amazing, everyday. Patrick and his team were awesome as they took us through some of Newport's best attractions. Lee and his bigger than life personality was always a welcomed delight. Nick, is the ultimate personality and has a laugh that makes you want to keep cracking jokes, just to hear it. They are professional and personable and when you leave, you feel like family. I honestly cannot compliment Nick, Brian, Patrick, Lee and the rest of the crew enough. My entire team, was so impressed they are planning to go back as soon as they can. So, a HUGE thank you to the Architect's for another flawless trip. We love this Inn and it's people.

Wonderful stay at a charming, historic mansion

5 on June 26, 2015

There is so much history and charm in this marvelous mansion. We stayed for one night in the LaFarge Room, and were very pleased with room amenities and services. The booklet in the room is written by Nick and Brian, whose writing style is both informative and quirky - you will learn a lot about the mansion and the town. I enjoyed reading it and, at times, found myself laughing hysterically at some of their restaurant reviews. Though busy, Nick made himself available to answer my many questions and was generous with his recommendations on things to do and places to go. Because we made reservations through online booking sites, breakfast was not included, unfortunately; however, there were always cookies and muffins available in the dining room, as well as coffee and tea.

Charming B&B

Everything was wonderful! Our hosts were fun and very insightful about the area. Everything was in walking distance from the house.

Wonderful stay at a beautiful inn, minutes away from downtown!

My fiance and I had a wonderful weekend away at the Architects Inn. The inn itself is beautiful, quiet, and very clean. Our room had a fireplace which made for a romantic feel. Brian and Nick were very gracious hosts. We loved that in less than a 10 minute walk we could quickly get to the restaurants and bars on Broadway. It really is in a fabulous location! We definitely highly recommend this b&b and hope to visit again in the near future!

Newport Winterfest

3.4 on February 24, 2014

The Inn was gorgeous. The room was charming. The decor was lovely. We loved the fireplace near the bed! It made for a very romantic evening. The location was great. It was close to restaurants and other attractions. The Inn keeper's recommendations of restaurants and nightlife was knowledgable and very helpful. The minor problems with towels and water were addressed within minutes. I was surprised that breakfast was not included in the room rate. Even so, I recommend this historic Newport Inn.

Above and beyond my expectations

4.6 on October 23, 2013

After a 5 and a half hour drive in traffic from New York, we were in a sour mood. This mood was immediately erased by the quaintness and beauty of the architect inn. Nick and Brian were extremely welcoming hosts and it was a pleasure to share our meals with them and the other guests of the Inn. Not only were they fantastic proprietors, they batted 1000 when it came to recommendations for things to do. I highly recommend asking for the redwood room. The room was extremely cozy and the bed was very comfortable. We have every intention of returning to the inn.

Such a wonderful stay and overall great experience!

5 on September 21, 2013

We just spent three nights at the Architects Inn and we will be returning! This place has it all! Perfect location, great hospitality, and beautiful, cozy rooms! The breakfasts were plentiful, original and perfectly prepared; you will not be disappointed! Nick and Brian are wonderful hosts who go out of their way to ensure you're stay is comfortable and fulfilling. They are very aware of what Newport has to offer and will point out the best places for you to spend your vacation. Overall, staying at the Architects Inn made our vacation absolutely perfect and I recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the Newport area!

Incredible stay in a Victorian mansion

5 on September 13, 2013

Our jaws were on the floor from the moment we stepped in to the Architect's Inn, and we're still in awe a week later. Everything about our stay was fantastic. Our room was decorated with antiques that added to the aesthetic while still being functional. We got to experience Victorian style with an extremely comfortable bed and great hot water pressure! Nick & Brian were fantastic hosts, full of great suggestions for things to do around Newport (all of which was a short walk away). Breakfast each morning was delicious and the other couples we met were a delight to talk with. We had such a great time and can't wait to go back to the Architect's Inn!
