A writer's retreat, echoing the murmur of cascading waterfalls, offers 180-degree vistas of the Caribbean. Nestled atop a 300-foot-high mountain, we enjoy a postcard view of the three bays of Vieques – including the world-famous Bioluminescent Bay. Casa Cascadas was designed by a renowned architect in the Japanese Wabi-Sabi tradition and is in itself a work of art. Two very private suites, each with king bed, bathroom with double sink and open-air shower are on the upper level of the house, separated by a loggia with a kitchenette with sink, refrigerator, range, coffeemaker and toaster.

This is one of several Hix-designed properties in Vieques. After staying in another, we feel this is the best. The bedrooms have panoramic views; the common space is spectacular; Peter's breakfasts are great; the layout allows for total privacy. This was our second stay in Vieques, and one of several in PR; no need to think twice next time -- we're going to Casa Cadcadas and taking our best friends with us.
