Quick one night stay

5 on September 11, 2017

Wish we could have stayed longer. Cecilla and Gordon were great hosts. Met us to help with bags in the rain even as we arrived pretty late. Served up a fabulous breakfast and Gordon was delightful sharing his history and knowledge of the area. The house is a virtual museum of interesting items and the hosts know the stories of each piece. Stay here if you can!

Classic Elegance

5 on July 24, 2017

The innkeepers, Cecilia and Gordon, were most welcoming. They helped us carry in our luggage and showed us to the room we had reserved - the Rose Room. Their knowledge about the history of the home was impressive, and they know the city well, too. We had dinner at Cafe Toscana, one of their recommendations, and were not disappointed. The restaurant was upscale but not stuffy, the Italian cuisine authentic and delicious. We enjoyed a comfortable night's sleep in a clean room with all the modern conveniences but decorated with period pieces in keeping with the historic architecture and design of the house. Our hosts sent us on our way with a delicious gourmet breakfast, and we felt we were saying goodbye to old friends. We definitely plan to return to this lovely place!

A Pleasant Stay

3.2 on July 14, 2017

In a fine old house in the historic city of Wilkes-Barre, Cecelia and Gordon provided a comfortable stay and a good breakfast. Several of the rooms contained many knickknacks and keepsakes, which some guests might consider fascinating and others might find a bit claustrophobic; in general, the furnishings and decor might benefit from updating, but our hosts made us feel welcome.

Innkeeper Response
We are pleased that we made you feel welcome, provided you with a comfortable stay and a good breakfast. Those are our three primary aims as Bed and Breakfast owners. Our house is over 150 years old and is furnished with antiques and reproductions that reflect its age and history. In the public rooms(Music Room,Small Parlor,Dining Room and Den)there are items, pictures and books that help tell the story of the Wilkes-Barre area. Most of our guests are interested in those things, choosing to stay in a historic house instead of a generic hotel. The Hillard House Inn is a true Bed and Breakfast. It is our home that we open to overnight guests and we invite them to experience the history and atmosphere. We thank you for your review.

Excellent in Evey Way

5 on June 24, 2017

We stayed two nights in this gorgeous Victorian home and enjoyed our private suite with a fantastic whirlpool bath. (Duchess Suite) The hosts are gracious and eager to provide information about the surrounding neighborhood and good places to dine. Both breakfasts - made to order - were amazing - blueberry pancakes and Egg Benedict -muffins, fruit -all served in a beautiful dining room. Thank you Cecilia and Gordon! We look forward to coming again soon!

Very nice!

5 on June 17, 2017

My wife and I stayed at the Hillard house for one night. The owners were extremely nice. Cecilia allowed us to use the one person ol' time cage elevator to send our luggage up to our room. (We had a lot of luggage for just the one night.) Gordon visited with us about his days as a food broker while serving breakfast. The house was very clean and our room large. Excellent breakfast. All in all, a great place to stay!

Innkeeper Response
