Fantastic Place, well worth it

4.4 on January 07, 2017

My girlfriend and I stayed in the Rose Room here on New Year's Eve 2016 and New Year's Day 2017 to Ski at Elk Mountain less than an hour away. I had never been to a B&B before, and wasn't sure what to expect. I am used to upscale hotels, and was concerned about the cleanliness and quality of the place. My experience exceeded my expectations in every regard. The home was like an old hotel that had been modernized, with lovely decor and a welcoming ambiance. This is truly a Mom-and-Pop operation, which leaves you feeling like you've stayed at a beloved relative's home rather than a hotel. Cecilia will serve you a five-star breakfast (truly divine, and it made the whole experience worth it), while Gordon caters to your every need, including giving driving directions that outflank Google Maps. Admittedly, we were the only guests there, and so we may have received special attention, but even if we had shared the house, I would not regret my stay one bit.

Innkeeper Response
We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at Hillard House Inn and were kind enough to post a review. Most people are a little apprehensive about their first stay at a Bed and Breakfast but they soon realize that there was nothing to worry about and so much to enjoy. There is the personal attention to details and the interaction with your hosts. The home itself is usually the star because so many b and bs are historically significant to the locale. We hope to see you again soon.

Warm and Friendly

We've stayed in both the Gold Room (quite wonderful) and the Blue Room (totally charming) and enjoyed our visits every time. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are well appointed with fine furniture, coffee cups and wine glasses, and towels and toiletries. The Blue Room is on the third floor, so a little rough on arthritic knees; but very cozy. Everything is as clean as can be and the house is an architectural wonder. There are even pianos in a music room! Cecilia and Gordon are very friendly and the breakfast is always amazing. A favorite stop in Pennsylvania.

Hilliard House B&B

We stayed at Hilliard House during our trip from Maine to Florida in mid-Oct and found it to be an excellent place to stay. Fairly convenient to the Interstate and well located within walking distance of a wide variety of dining spots. Cecilia & Gordon are friendly hosts who clearly look out for their guests. Our room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast was outstanding and filling. We'll stay here again if/when the opportunity presents itself.

Innkeeper Response

We have many guests who are driving north to south(and vice versa) because of our proximity to the I81 corridor. Hope you enjoy your time in Florida.

We will definitely be back!

We had an amazing five day/four night stay at the Hillard House Inn on Labor Day weekend. The stately house is situated on a charming tree-lined street next to Wilkes College. The Duchess Suite provided two separate bedroom/lounge areas for me, my husband and 90 years old mother to share in an apartment-like setting along with a private bathroom. The décor of the suite was lovely and the beds were extremely comfortable. The elevator was an added bonus getting my mom to the second floor suite. The owners, Cecelia and Gordon were delightful, sharing the history of their house over the five star breakfast provided. We even spent a fun-filled evening on their spacious front porch with a British couple staying at the Inn. No hotel in the area can complete with the amenities the Hillard House Inn can offer. We will definitely be back!

Innkeeper Response
We very much enjoyed having your family stay with us over the Holiday weekend. Our Duchess Suite is perfect for a stay in the area because it provides that extra bit of space to relax in a homelike atmosphere. Gordon and I enjoyed speaking with your mother and I think she was entertained by the conversations at the breakfast table. We certainly hope to see you all again.
