This is a beautiful home in a neat neighborhood. It was a chilly day, but it was very cozy inside. It would be fun to stay in nice weather too because it's a great neighborhood to explore. Breakfast was delicious. Kim was very friendly and available when needed.

The Portland White House is absolutely amazing! My husband is active duty and we were not in the Christmas spirit since we couldn't spend our Christmas with family but these gracious hosts turned that around for us. We could not have asked for a more welcoming and beautiful stay. The staff was just wonderful. To top it off, we had a gourmet breakfast at no charge each morning we were there. We have told all of our friends about the White House and would love to stay again!

My husband and I stayed over the Christmas holiday, our second visit to PWH. We were very happy in the Coach House. The bed is comfortable, deep mattress, no problem for my husband's sensitive back. Cozy room with clean, modern bathroom - liked the shower. Breakfasts were superior with fresh fruit, different entree each morning, great coffee. The staff, including Myra and Kim, were totally welcoming and accommodating. Nice feature nearby is public transportation bus at the end of the block.

Me and my friend have been going to the White house for over 15 years . We enjoyed every visit. It's relaxing, and the hospitality is wonderful. They make you feel like family. We are going to miss the current owners & host .

This is a gorgeous mansion in a lovely neighborhood. The rooms a beautiful, so many antiques everywhere. The breakfast is delicious and substantial. Maybe improve the coffee a bit. I admit to being a coffee snob, sorry.

I have often stayed at the Portland White House because the people who work there are so kind, so welcoming and just delightful!! There treats at night and scrumptious breakfasts add to a most delightful stay!

We enjoyed our stay at the Portland White House so much that we not only stayed here just the first night of our trip, but decided to end our trip to Oregon here as well. The rooms were beautiful, we absolutely enjoyed our conversations with everyone associated with the Ptld White House and the breakfasts were amazing - would love to have the recipes! Easy location and GORGEOUS neighborhood!

I spent two nights in September at Portland's White House and it was lovely from the moment I arrived. My room was upgraded so I was in the Rose Room which was huge and beautiful, you must try it! The linens are nice, the toiletries are top notch, it's quiet, you get a wonderful breakfast to start your morning, the owners are great, and the girls helping with breakfast are very sweet. Everything is clean and well kept, it's a wonderful place to spend your down-time when you're visiting. I can't wait to go back again this month!

My husband and I spent 1 night at the White House at the end of our travel around Oregon. It's a beautiful property. We stayed in the Garden Room which had a lovely patio. The breakfast was filling and delicious. The service was gracious and attentive. I would definitely stay here again.

Nice B&B in the East side of Portland, 20 minutes from downtown in bus. The house is very beautiful and well decorated and the rooms are comfortable. The breakfast was very good and the service very kind.

The While House is located in a beautiful neighbour but still close to everything. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the sitting room has a number of very interesting antiques. Nothing is a problem for the team, we arrived early and they couldn't have been more accommodating. The light rail is a short walk away, and our only regret is that we were able to stay only one night!

Lovely B&B. A respite from the summer heat. The staff were very welcoming and made us feel that it was our quasi-home.
5 on September 08, 2017
The Carriage House was beautiful and very private. A really lovely room. The only negative was the air conditioning because we could not control it in our room. Breakfasts were amazing, delicious and different every day. The table was beautifully set and made us feel like we were back in the Victorian Era. Talking with other guests at breakfast is always a special treat. Lanning, Myra, Rose and everyone else we met at the White House were wonderful. Helpful with ideas and suggestions for navigating around Portland and the Columbia Gorge area. All in all an outstanding visit to OR.

The owners and staff were friendly and very accommodating. The breakfast room was elegant and the food was of a gourmet caliber. All of our needs were met with a smile. We were very satisfied with the location. We wish Lanning and Myra much luck with their futures and whatever their next project may be.

We enjoyed 3 nights here and were continually astounded by the care and concern of the staff and owner for our needs both onsite and offsite. Absolutely charming, warm, caring people! The breakfasts were delicious and the owner was diligent about cooking for my food sensitivities. Absolutely recommend the Portland White House!

Beautiful building and grounds, attentive staff, exquisite breakfast! The weather was warm and there was no AC, but we were in the carriage house and opening windows kept the temperature quite nice; plus, we got to listen to the fountain. Location is quiet, and close to restaurants. Very professionally run B&B - an excellent experience!

This is our second time here, first time was holding our wedding at this location. This place does not disappoint, it is such a beautiful well preserved home that is very welcoming with outstanding customer service. It's unfortunate it is up for sale now, but hopefully somebody not just with the money but with the heart/passion to keep this bed-and-breakfast alive is the one who buys it. There is the reason why this is the 2016 bed-and-breakfast of the year in the U.S.

By far the nicest bed and breakfast I've ever stayed at. Staff are fun to chat with and we always meet great people at the breakfast table.

The entire property is a time capsule of genteel urban living of a hundred years ago, yet it is impeccably clean with totally modern, updated bathrooms, lighting, amenities, etc. Astounding works of art and antiques surround you at every turn. Breakfast was good and ample and the coffee was strong. If this is your style, jump on it as the property is for sale!

We had a wonderful short stay. I only wish we could have been here longer. First of all the tea is to die for, top notch, the aroma is amazing!! We loved the jucuzzi tub and champagne and the music that was on in our room when we arrived set the mood so nicely. The owner and manager were friendly and kind and greeted us even when we arrived hours after we thought we would. We have celiac and they had a wonderful breakfast that we could eat and only missed out on the fresh made cinnamon roll. We were so full from the delicious breakfast and fresh fruit that we really didn't feel sad. I pove the decor and you must take a leisurely walk around the neighborhood to see all the old houses.

The Portland White House B&B was a great place to stay. We had a nice, charming room with lots of little extras like chocolates and champagne. There was a decent wireless network, a cute sitting room in the main house, and adequate air conditioning during our Summer stay. The bed was comfortable enough, although I wasn't crazy about the pillows -- too soft for my personal taste. The breakfasts all three days of our stay were outstanding.
4.8 on July 09, 2017
We had a fabulous stay at Portland's White House. The owner and chef made us a delicious breakfast with local fresh fruits. The house is for sale so it will be interesting to see if the new owner keeps it as a B&B. There is a lot of history and antiques in the home that are gorgeous. A must see!

We were visiting family in Portland, and they recommended the White House B&B. It is a beautiful old building, well maintained, and in a lovely part of Portland. The host and staff were extremely friendly and helpful. And the breakfasts provided were exceptional. Each morning was a different dish, and each one was excellent. The rooms were furnished nicely. The room we had, the chaffeur's room, was a bit small, but very private, and there were two lovely courtyards to relax in. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience.

The house, rooms, and furniture are all very well maintained and manage to avoid that "grandma" feel that many B&B's can't avoid. The staff was very pleasant and helpful and the food was delicious. Also, the complementary oatmeal cookies left in our room we're outstanding! the neighborhood is tucked away near several beautiful old homes, but only a short distance to bars and restaurants if you feel like going out. I highly recommend this place!

The Portland Whitehouse team is the best. We've stayed in a number of places in Portland, and it is by the far the best and most consistent. Anyone looking a great room, good location, easy location, top breakfast, and just an all around no worries experience, this needs to be your place.
4.8 on April 19, 2017
Very friendly and attentive service. Our breakfast included a variety of quality food (we had quiche, diced potato, bacon, and fruit), much of it locally sourced. Their fresh baked goods are absolutely to die for! The rooms are comfortable and well-maintained. The neighborhood itself is safe and clean, and has a lot of restaurants and small shops within walking distance. For a romantic getaway, or for a wonderful place to relax, I would absolutely recommend Portland White House.
We love you.... thank you for such a great review! It's always wonderful when someone appreciates the local ingredients we source! We get our eggs from a farmer in Sandy that personally delivers them to us... our juices are all fresh squeezed from a local juicer! And during the summer months we do all our shopping at the farmers markets for our fresh ingredients. Big hugs!

Friendly Staff, Comfortable Bed, Good Food, Short distance to entertainment. Only turnoff was checkout. I found it odd that the POS system prompts for a 15%/20%/25% tip and that was awkward. I have never had that experience at another B&B. After leaving, I googled to see If I was off base and I see that I am not. You tip housekeepers (envelope was in the room for that) but it should not be assumed for the owner of the B&B. It was such a small thing but left me feeling ashamed or something when I shouldn't. When we go out, I typically tip 20%+ and know service rely on these to supplement the overall compensation. I would totally recommend this location, but wanted to give honest feedback about the experience.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us. However, I did want to clarify that the tips do go to the Housekeeping and Breakfast staff (not the owner)... they are distributed evenly by the hours they work. In fact, Lanning, the owner actually adds additional for the staff if we receive great reviews, etc. Some people don't have cash on hand and therefore appreciate that they can add the tip on the credit card. There is also a tab to write your own amount or leave no tip. We hope that helps clarify and again appreciate your business and taking the time to express your discomforts. Myra

We stayed at Portland's White House for two nights. We were pleasntly greeted by staff when we arrived, given a brief tour of the building, and led to our room. We recoeved a free upgrade, which was a nice bonus. Our breakfasts were fantastic and the White House had a good location in terms of being able to grab Portland buses.
Yay.... we love 5 stars!!! Thank you for the wonderful review. We so appreciate that you took the time to do that for us. Best wishes and we hope to be welcoming you back soon.

My husband and I went to Portland for the first time and decided to try this B&B ! What a great decision ! It's location is great , decor is beautiful and the cooked breakfast was outstanding ! There was a slight mistake on the price of the rooms when we checked out , but they refunded us promptly and send a nice email to apologize. We'll most probably stay there again when we visit Portland next time !
Thank you for taking the time to give us a review... and we hope to see you back! We appreciate your business! Best wishes!

What a surprise to find this lovely and welcoming B&B when nearby convention center hotels were either fully booked and equally or more expensive. Set in the Irvington National Historic District, the White House is like stepping back in time. The neighborhood is safe and wonderful to walk around in. We loved looking at the architecture and well kept yards and gardens. Our room over the Carriage House was the smallest at the property but a spacious bathroom, a lovely view of adjacent back gardens. It is a quiet neighborhood and we slept well. The cookies, chocolate and wine bottles to purchase in the room weren't necessary by our standards and I suppose many appreciate the extra touches. The nicest part was breakfast served at one long table which made it nice to meet fellow travelers and share stories. The breakfast was beautifully prepared and served. We would return if we ever want to stay in that part of Portland. Highly recommended for those who appreciate history, antiques and see the benefits of a B&B over a hotel.
Thank you for the wonderful review... Lanning is a perfectionist and has restored this home almost to it's original greatness. He even found the original wallpaper (Schumacher Wallpaper, which are still around today) and put up the exact pattern in the dining room. Breakfast is served on his grandmothers Meissen Blue Onion dishes over 150 years old, individually hand painted... he takes much pride in his museum quality artwork and decor. Thank you for the appreciation of his fine collection. Best wishes.

Set in the Historic Irvington and nearby Alameda neighborhoods, Portland's White House is a welcoming home for discerning travelers. We had looked a hotels nearby for an event we were attending but they were full up due to a convention. The White House turned out to be less expensive and certainly more interesting. The owners and staff are so friendly and respectful. The house and grounds are gorgeous and the breakfast is beautifully prepared on one long table where you can meet fellow travelers. The neighborhood is very walkable and a feast for anyone with interest in architecture, historic preservation and gardening.

After planning a birthday weekend and making my reservation I was able to speak with Myra who helped in making for a wonderful weekend. When we arrived we found a beautiful room that was specially prepared with a Birthday Cake (Myra was kind enough to find time during her busy day to go and pick it up for me), chilled sparkling cider, refreshing fresh fruit, cookies to die for (it's good that I didn't know where to find the cookie jar or I can assure you that there would have been none for the other guests!) and some wonderful chocolate. The room was clean and fresh. We were warmly greeted and given a quick tour of the downstairs before being shown to our quarters. Everything was simply stunning. We woke to a breakfast that really hit the spot! I suspect that the menu changes, but we had eggs, potato pancakes and cherry tomatoes and peppers. There were rolls available that we almost missed. We were invited to roam freely and peek into any rooms with an open door. All were immaculate and we're so excited to plan our next trip! As I settled our bill with Cassie, a lovely young lady who attended to our elegant breakfast, Myra took a moment from the tour that she was giving to say good bye and gave a warm hug. We felt like family. (not mine, but a really nice one where you feel welcomed and want to come back often!) Our thanks to the entire team who clearly works so hard to create a memorable experience. It's obvious that every detail was carefully considered. Nothing left to chance. Last, but not least, I'd like to comment about the other guests. In a word full of self absorbed people who barely acknowledge each other, each guest that we interacted with was simply wonderful. Great conversation and they even joined in to sign happy birthday. We're not only excited to return and enjoy another unique room, but to see who we'll meet next.

Portland's White House is incredible. Everything is immaculate and special and the staff are endlessly accommodating. I stayed there with my 8-year-old son and we had the most special time playing chess, and they accommodated a child's taste buds in the most doting way. The value is shocking - I don't know why they don't charge more! You will forget the world around you and maybe even the reason you are in Portland because it's such an oasis.

My wife and I had a great stay at Portland's White House! We booked the Canopy Room which was absolutely gorgeous and quite spacious, with a huge jetted tub big enough for two. Neither my wife nor I are morning people, but we made the effort to get up early enough to try out the complimentary breakfast, The breakfast was definitely worth waking up early for - very delicious! Also, you will be AMAZED at the number of impressive antiques throughout the White House...including memorabilia from the actual White House! The staff at this establishment was diverse, professional, warm and friendly, and very helpful - we loved our stay here! We will definitely make plans to stay here again in the future!

We rented the facility for our wedding and it was the MOST AMAZING EXPERIENCE! Our entire family stayed over night. The rooms and common areas are stunning, welcoming and comfortable. The Staff was incredible. They thought of everything! They were very responsive, accommodating and extremely helpful. The quality and presentation of the food was fantastic! We couldn't have been more pleased with the property and the staff. Many of our guests commented on what a wonderful wedding it was and how smoothly everything moved along. I highly recommend The Portland Whitehouse for any events or a weekend get away.

It was fortunate that there had been a cancellation, and I was able to get a room on very short notice. It was New Year's Eve and I needed a place to stay where I could be close enough to town, yet someplace that was very quiet. Portland's White House fit the bill. The room amenities included all I might need: complimentary chocolates, cookies and bottles of wine available for purchase - red and white options. This is a very classic accommodation, yet I felt totally comfortable and relaxed. The common areas were as lovely as the rooms - such beauty in furniture, fabrics and Lanning's (the owner) collections of porcelain and artworks. They were wise enough to plan for a later breakfast on New Year's Day morning. It was fantastic and plentiful. The staff was bright and accommodating. I highly recommend a stay at Portland's White House, located in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in The Rose City.

Overall this was a nice place to stay - very quiet and the bed were really comfortable. The main foyer had a little bit of an odor that took me a while to get used too. Felt really weird in the bathroom because there was only lace curtains covering the windows - no blind or shutter. I also would love to see better light in the bathroom- it was a harsh cold light. I stay here again but would chose a different room next time. I loved the character of the home

The Portland White House is absolutely gorgeous. My husband and I had a night away from our young kids and it was so much fun! The furniture and interior decorations throughout the house are breathtaking. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was beyond my expectations. It was delicious! Great friendly staff as well! I have wanted to stay here for years and I was not at all disappointed with our stay. I would strongly recommend the Portland White House to others.

Our four nights at The White House were peaceful and so enjoyable. From the friendly staff and beautiful antiques to the absolutely delicious breakfasts and in-room cookies each night (!), our stay in Portland was made by this B&B. Only slight annoyance was slow internet (hence, 4 stars for Service, not 5). But if one really wanted to go back in time and enjoy reading not web surfing, it was perfect!

Breakfasts were served at the grand dining table (that seats 18). Husband enjoyed the grand piano in the parlor. Hope to return again.

My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time staying here, and will definitely be back. The Canopy Room we stayed in was great! Linens, towels, robes, etc. were clean and everything worked just fine. Everything seems well insulated, so despite other people staying, noise never seemed an issue. The house as a whole is amazingly quaint, with very well-kept and consistent decor that really makes the whole experience better. It is old-fashioned, yes, but that gives it so much more character and depth. Food was fantastic, and the whole inviting and community feel of morning's breakfast coupled with friendly service was really fun! Like I said, will definitely be back. Might be fun to stay in other rooms just for the different experience, too. Highly recommend!

Stayed in Blarney Room which was quite small but was fine for us as we knew that we would be out and about the weekend anyway. The breakfasts were amazing. Inn is an old historic house in a residential neighborhood. It is close to public transit and a main street with places to eat. Parking is free but it is on the street. Noone was there to check us in but directions were given to get to our room. Was a great value with the winter rates in October. Blarney Room is in a cottage outside of main house so was quiet and private.

We stayed for only one night (sadly), but what a treat the White House is. Myra greeted us warmly and was attentive, without being intrusive. We stayed a lovely room, which was an upgrade, without an additional charge. The house was gorgeous and quite and breakfast was phenomenal. We WILL stay at the White House when we return to Portland--it's a wonderful bed and breakfast inn.

We spent two nights at the Portland White House. The place is beautiful and very well maintained. Very peaceful, pleasant neighborhood. The staff is outstanding and the breakfasts are delicious. Told the staff that I was interested in a low carb option and they accommodated my requests the following day.

I stay here when I visit my son in Portland, if it is not already booked. The building and rooms are lovely, I always enjoy chatting with other visitors over breakfast. It is a quiet and charming neighborhood. A bonus - it is 2 blocks from one of my favorite yarn stores and Spielman bagels.

Our last night in Oregon was at the White House B&B. So worth it, wish we could have been there the whole trip but this was our only night in the city. Before Myra answered the door it was clear that this B&B is "loved" and well taken care of. You are surrounded by beauty, inside and out.

What a Gem that we discovered right here in Portland. The staff were responsive pre stay and were GREAT when we were there as well. We stayed in a very nice room, the Canopy room, and it was very nice and quiet. Fresh flowers, bubbly, chocolate and fresh baked cookies were a wonderful surprise! Breakfast was great! We will go back on our next "staycation". John K. Portland, OR

We had an outstanding experience at the Portland White House. From the moment we arrived the service was excellent and the Canopy Room was amazing with champagne and Moonstruck chocolates. We were able to order a special breakfast to suit our dietary needs. I would highly recommend!

The room was so beautiful (we stayed in the Balcony Room) and comfortable. The breakfast was amazing! The staff were very friendly. The only issue we had was that the previous guests had set an alarm in the room for 6:45am and that was a shock since we had planned on sleeping in. Other than that, it was a great visit.

We had a one night stay in the carriage addition, Carolina room that was very nice and clean. It is a unique old home that has been lovingly restored. Nice residential neighborhood where we walked to a wonderful dinner at a local tapas restaurant. Breakfast service was as advertised with the only negative that the eggs Ben included collar greens that is down the list of my favs.

The inn was elegant, the food delicious (homemade cookies alone worth the stay), and innkeeper, Kim, was a gracious and helpful host. If you visit Portland, stay here.

Despite being a local resident we stay whenever we want time away and do not have many days. For locals or travelers you can't go wrong!

We were travelling with another couple and both stayed at the White House for two wonderful days in September. We had booked based on high ratings on Trip Advisor and other sites and were not disappointed. If we could rate 6 stars we would! Lanning was an exceptional inn keeper and host, always ensuring we had everything we needed and going above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We so enjoyed our time sipping wine on the beautiful patio and wandering the lovely neighbourhood. We highly recommend this gem in Portland.
5 on September 28, 2016
The breakfasts were absolutely wonderful and the staff was terrific. Each room was different and very well decorated, all with private bathrooms. Ours was the only one that I know of that had a double walk-in shower and a balcony. One had a second-floor porch! My only concern was that some of the rooms had beds so high that I think step stools should have been provided to get into them.

We have stayed at the Portland White House a number of times and look forward to each return. If you enjoy A historic setting great hosts, clean and comfortable rooms, and an awesome breakfast, then this is your destination on the historic eastside Portland Oregon!

Close to downtown and with lots or bars and restaurants within walking distance, the White House proved to be our perfect choice to stay on our first visit ever to Portland. The breakfasts were outstanding as well as unusual -- it's the first time I ever had fried chicken and waffles! Lanning courteously invited an old friend who lives in Portland to join us for breakfast on the last day of our stay, treating us and all of the guests like family.
5 on September 21, 2016
My wife and I stayed here based on online reviews and we were not disappointed. Lanning was a great host being friendly but not obtrusive and even though he was on the go most of the time we saw him he was kind enough to explain the history of this historic property and the work he has put into it to get it where it is today. The rooms were clean and comfortable with delicious homemade cookies and chocolates to greet us each day. The breakfasts were gourmet and fantastic. We walked around the neighborhood where this property is located and loved the restored old homes and huge old trees. I highly recommend Portlands White House!
5 on September 20, 2016
We love B&Bs; its a chance to get away from the masses and be treated as special guests. Portland's White House does not disappoint; Thus was our second stay and was just as great as the first. Lanning and Myra and staff go out of their way to make you feel at home in this elegantly restored mansion. Enjoyed our walks around the Irvington neighborhood. Room was very spacious and the bed divine. We looked forward to relaxing in the private courtyard and cookies after our day of hiking the falls. The only regret was our early morning departing flight did not allow us to have breakfast on the last day. You do not want to miss the breakfast; its grand. B&L Copus, Stilwell, KS

I cannot give high enough praise for this beautiful and welcoming Bed and Breakfast. We only stayed one night, but it was an amazing night spent in a warm and comforting atmosphere, only blocks away from great restaurants, shops and art, and is located in a great neighborhood. If that wasn't enough, the staff were some of the friendliest I have ever met, and the breakfast of cheese blintz and fresh fruit was to die for. I would recommend staying here to anyone and everyone!
5 on September 11, 2016
My husband and I were truly amazed at the first sight of the property. Once inside, we were in awe of the woodwork, the décor and charm of this lovely place. The staircase that greets you as you walk through the front door is just breathtaking with one beautiful room after another. The breakfast was served in the formal dining room and was outstanding- very delicious!!
5 on September 07, 2016
Myra was wonderfully hospitable upon arrival. She even returned a last minute email about uber being at the airport. The room was beautiful, the neighborhood had wonderful; we loved walking and biking around the city from here. Breakfast was delicious both mornings as well!

We've stayed here three times before coming back last week. We love the location, friendly staff, and especially the breakfast. It is absolutely amazing! The rooms can be tight, however, it's an older home and they are perfectly comfortable. We find this B&B a much better place to stay than a downtown hotel. The price is reasonable and the parking is free! We love exploring the neighborhood and find it easy to get downtown, to the Pearl, and to 23rd while leaving our car parked at the B&B. The people we've met and chatted with while having breakfast are always interesting and enjoyable. We highly recommend the White House and will be back again.

We only stayed one night, and sadly had been ill. But the staff graciously prepared a tray for me to take to the room, so we got to enjoy a delightful breakfast. Details and decorations are a feast for the eyes. Bed was very comfortable, with fabulous pillows; appreciated the terry robe and quiet.

Portland's White House is located on a quiet residential street on the NE side of Portland. Many great restaurants are located less than 3 miles away. The B&B is furnished with many, many antique furniture items and the rooms are very, very nice.

This amazing, beautiful, and superbly run venue is the perfect spot for a get-away or even a wedding, our particular experience... OK! Only get one of those, but I promise you will want to keep coming back year after year. Yes, the rooms are lovely! Cool, comfortable and perfect. Yes, the location is great. But, truly it is the staff and the innkeeper that make this the absolute best experience you will want to keep having year after year! Love, love love Portland's Whitehouse....

We spent three nights at the White House recently. It's a wonderfully decorated space and is located in a wonderful neighborhood. We were able to walk to many great restaurants and local businesses. Lannning and Myra were great hosts and had gregarious personalities. I would definitely come back if we are back in Portland.

What a beautiful property. Very attentive staff. Elegance everywhere. Breakfast was superb. Price was actually less than chain motels we stayed in our trip.

Just had a wedding here but had been looking at this place over the last 15yrs. Finally booked the venue and couldn't be happier. This home is beyond beautiful, so much character and history to soak up. This place will be on our list to return to yearly. To top it all off the owner, Lanning, is an amazing host and so down to earth. Accommodating our every need while serving up some of the best quality food I have had in some time. Thanks Lanning from Andrew & Joy!!!

My wife and I stayed here because we had a business convention at the rose quarter. All the hotels in the area were booked or way overpriced. Our stay here was the best we have ever had in our 4 years of business travels. Lanning made chicken and waffles one morning and it was upwards of the best meal I ever have eaten and there scones are to die for. The rooms are a little pricey but well worth it. We are staying here anytime we need to stay in the Portland area. Lanning and Myra were excellent host and treated everyone with the most up most respect and hospitality.

a friend and I booked rooms for my wife's birthday weekend, as a surprise. The ladies were blown away with our choice. The service was fantastic, and they made us feel like it was our own "home away from home". We enjoyed the ball room in the evening for some games, and the patio after breakfast for a card game. The food was delicious, and done to our wishes! The value for the cost was more than I expected. I look forward to the chance to visit and stay here again.
Thank YOU for taking the time to write such a wonderful review. You were so much fun and it was a pleasure being part of your birthday surprise! Hope to be welcoming you back soon... Your cookies are waiting here for you!

The only the wrong with our stay at Portland's White House was that it was too short. The room was beautiful. We enjoyed drinking champagne in the garden and watching the stars come out. Breakfast was wonderful and the kitchen even catered to our Gluten-free/grain-free requests. We will be back. Loved it!!
Come Back... Come Back! Thank you for writing such a wonderful review. We appreciate you taking the time to let us and the world know! Big hugs!

The White House Bed in Breakfast in Portland was a great surprise to find att he last minute for our weekend get away. It is conveniently located, clean, unique and cozy. Although we hadn't choosen the largest of rooms, we loved it : nicely decorated and cosy! Breakfasts were marvellous, not only the quality of the food but the whole atmosphere of sitting together with the other guests at a large table. Conveniently situated to visit Portland, bus stop nearby.

When you're at the White House, you're family. Everyone from the owner, manager and all the staff are there to make sure every moment is memorable. We had our whole family of out of town guests stay for a long weekend, Med school graduation - and every detail was perfect... highly recommend this place!

Portland's White House is quite stunning. It's in a great neighborhood location, which gave it a quiet and homey feel, but still very convenient to everything. The rooms were a nice size and our room included a great balcony view and amazing bathtub. The décor was lovely, but there were so many interesting items that it gave the house a cluttered feel. The breakfast was good, but not the best we've ever had, and despite mentioning my food allergies when we made our reservation, some of the breakfast items offered to us still included them. Overall, a nice experience, but we would probably explore some other options in Portland before staying there again.

Beautiful property with excellent breakfasts. Major downside is room was extremely small which detracted from overall experience.
Thank you for your review. We do our best describing the Blarney Room as small and cozy and that is also why the rate is so much less than the other rooms at the inn. I hope you had the chance to enjoy all the common areas of the property and take a peek at the other rooms for hopefully a return visit. Thank you for your input and inspiring me to come up with new ways to let people know how cozy the room really is.

Everything was wonderful! We enjoyed "touring" the beautiful historic home, as well as the neighborhood. Lanning and Myra acknowledged our anniversary and made us feel special! The inn was completely booked, but all was quiet and peaceful. Breakfast was excellent, and a lovely opportunity to visit with the other guests. Overall, our experience was memorable and well-marked our special occasion! Thank you!
Thank you for making our day! We love hearing wonderful feedback and look so forward to welcoming you back! Big hugs Myra & Lanning

Portland's White House scores very high on the tranquility factor. Even though every room was booked, we had a quiet and restful stay. The White House is beautiful inside and outside. The breakfast was delicious and the service impeccable. In the morning and evening, strolling through the neighborhood became our favorite urban activity. Simply tranquil.
Thank you so much for taking the time to send this wonderful review. We totally appreciate it! Big hugs, Myra & Lanning and all of us here at Portland's White House.

Innkeepers Lanning, Myra, and the staff made us feel most welcome. We were even included in morning chatter with friends of Lanning also staying at the Inn. The breakfasts were fabulous. Staff member Kathy helped us feel like special guests. Found their Website description to be right-on. The Inn is located in a historic, residential area of Portland. We were fascinated with the surrounding homes and the nearby eclectic business district.

At breakfast the next morning I met several guests who were repeat visitors...I'm sure I will become one too.

Even though my mom and I were single-night guests (and changed our reservation date at the last minute!), we were treated like royalty. The reservation process was simple, response from the host was immediate, and our welcome from Myra got things off on just the right start. She oriented us to the neighborhood and gave advice on where to head for dinner. Our room was gorgeous, and so quiet. The breakfast was 5-star. I will recommend Portland's White House to others and will stay there again any time I'm back in Portland.

We stayed at Portland's White House in early April. This B&B is located in a beautiful residential neighborhood and all the dogwoods and flowering shrubs were in bloom! The house is filled with antiques, elegant furniture and rugs. Breakfast is served at a large dining table (14?) and was delicious. It was mentioned that the breakfast is a "slow food" service, but we felt rushed at the 9am seating. Our room was beautiful and we enjoyed sitting out on the balcony with a glass of wine before going out for dinner. The staff was very nice and their suggestions for local places was helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

Amazing!!! Loved our stay... We were met by the owner Lanning who made us feel at home upon arrival.. He arranged to have a bottle of champagne on ice with champagne glasses on our veranda..to get us started. Our room was so beautiful. FYI you wont see it on the web site. "An upgrade to what we chose" The Garden room with a gorgeous claw foot bath tub that I have to say was so relaxing. Breakfast was over the top... Eggs benedict. My favorite and it was made to perfection. The staff went above and beyond to make this experience unbelievable. We even got a tour of the rooms and history of this beautiful place.. I have recommended this place to a lot of people I know and don't know..

A bit of a disappointment, after all the TripAdvisor hype. We stayed two nights, with no clean linens provided. The food and baked goods were good. Adding insult to injury, after leaving a crazy generous tip (for what I'm still not sure), I asked for a couple of cookies for the road, and was refused. I'm still waiting for an itemized receipt.

From the homemade cookies and Moonstruck chocolates waiting in my room to the gourmet breakfasts (I had a Dutch baby pancake one morning and fried chicken with waffles the 2nd, both with loads of fresh fruit) to the high quality linens, down comforter and pillows, Molton Brown toiletries, all housed in a fantastic Historic home filled with carefully selected antiques in a beautiful old neighborhood. Everyone was wonderful and eager to help. I can't say enough wonderful things about my stay, just try it for yourself and see, you'll love it too!

Was lucky to have gotten reservations for four nights in the Blarney Room. This is the smallest and most economical room but it served our needs perfectly. The room, being in the adjacent building where there are two rooms upstairs and one downstairs, was cozy and had a great view of the neighboring homes and yards which are beautiful and serene. We were able to see the other rooms in the White House when we arrived because they keep the doors to rooms open until a guest checks in. We actually preferred the Blarney Room because of it's location and privacy over the ones in the main house. The main house is outstanding with it's furnishings and collections. We spent time in the main "living room" visiting with my daughter who lives within walking distance of the White House. She was allowed to have breakfast with us as a guest which was very nice. The breakfasts are unbelievable. Each day brings a different specialty which we looked forward to . Breakfast is served by "reservation" times that guests select the night prior starting from 7:30 until 9:00. Our only issues were with the lack of drawer space in the room and the sheets that had a few small holes in them. Otherwise, the service was great, cookies and Moonstruck chocolates were fun and the bathrobes came in handy. I know my daughter will recommend this property to any guests that she has who are looking for a cozy, upscale place whit great value. I know we'll stay here again on future visits.

My wife and I just celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary at the White House. This will have been our third visit in 10 years. I can honestly say the service and care of their staff and owner(s) has consistently stayed high. They genuinely care about their guests, it's not a transaction factory. I highly recommend giving these folks a try. Love the gourmet breakfast as well!

The Portland White House is located a ways out of downtown, but it is in a quiet neighborhood and has good restaurants close by. We did walk into downtown, but it's about 2 miles (4 to get to the Rose Gardens). The home itself is decorated very nice with charming antiques and a cozy feel (I'm glad they didn't overdo it on the flower patterns; I find these B&B's rather tacky & dated). The breakfasts were delicious and the staff was very helpful & attentive. The only real complaint is that it is quite pricey. However, when you look at what a hotel costs, it's not too bad of a deal all and all.

My husband and I love to find unique B&Bs. It's a whole different experience than a hotel. This is a beautiful old home stuffed full of antiques. Makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. Our room was very comfortable and even though there were a number of other guests there, it was very quiet. We stayed in the Canopy room. Even a chandelier in the bathroom! The breakfasts were excellent and it was nice to be able to sign up for the time you wished to dine. The location is in a quiet neighborhood and we found it pretty convenient for everything we wanted to do. It's only about 10 minutes to downtown, close to 84 and not far from the airport. We'd certainly recommend it to others.

Our stay while moving our daughter into her dorm at UP provided a serene interlude in the evenings. The cookies in the room were delicious! We still daydream about each breakfast, too. Cheers to Lanning and his crew!

Our stay at Portland's White House was very nice. We were able to walk to area restaurants and a mall where we could catch a movie. The area was quiet, and the rooms were comfortable and also quiet. The bathroom space was a little cramped, but adequate. The bed was very tall, and no stool was provided to assist with getting on and off of the bed. I'm not particularly short, so I can imagine this might be a problem for some people. The breakfasts were generally good, but not outstanding. This is a beautiful old house, so if you enjoy that kind of setting, this would probably be a very enjoyable place for you to stay.

We had a mini-family reunion at Portland's White House - it was the perfect venue for the 9 of us, great rooms, really great breakfasts, public rooms for us to gather, and gracious hosts and staff. Would love to return.

Host greeted us both by name at the door despite being past official check in time. He made us feel very much at home. The house is spectacular and it's a real treat to stay in there. We booked a room with a balcony, but we sadly got moved to a different room without a balcony because we were only staying one night. The room was clean, quiet and wonderfully decorated, but the mattress was a bit soft for my tastes. Breakfast in the morning was a complete show stopper- the best I've ever had at a b&b: plentiful, delicious and something truely special. Would highly recommend a stay here.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the White House, which is in a lovely quiet neighborhood in Portland. The soundproofing was excellent, and the air conditioning was very welcome, as we were there over a warm weekend. The food was marvelous - great big cookies left in our room every day, and huge breakfasts which featured mounds of fresh fruit Our only complaint was that there was a bright bathroom light controlled by a sensor that could not be de-activated - at least, according to the staff. It was very annoying to be bombarded with light when we got up in the middle of the night. At the end of our stay, one of the staff confided - seemingly in all seriousness - that this the work of one of the inn's many ghosts. I can't quite swallow that....

My family stayed at the White House for a quick overnight in Portland. It was quite beautiful - the rooms were nicely decorated and very clean. We had a Garden balcony which was a nice place to gather for a glass of wine. The neighborhood was quite nice and dinner options were within walking distance. Lanning the owner was wonderful and very accommodating since we had to get up early and head out - he had a delicious breakfast ready for us before departing. Only small issue was the night we arrived they had a dinner party so we felt like we couldn't utilize the facility - information I would have like to know prior to arrival!

Portland's White House is just that. You feel like you were a guest at the White House! Very well done estate and great staff! They really go out of their way to make sure you have a great stay and feel at home. They feed you outstanding breakfast cooked fresh each morning. The home sits in a great historic area of Portland and is a great place to walk to shops or restaurants or just in the neighborhood to look at the great homes/estates in the area. The owner was very personable and takes great pride in this bed and breakfast and it shows. This house is a MUST stay for the area and we will for sure be back on our future trips to Portland!

HIGHLY recommend staying at the White House! Incredible food, very friendly staff and owner. We stay at many B&B's, this is THE BEST experience! Loved the location, the room, the food, just simply a lovely experience. BRAVO!!

I was married here several years ago, and can't wait to go back for my anniversary! The ambiance was perfection, Lanning's customer service was impeccable, I can't believe I was lucky enough to find this place!

What a surprise from my girlfriend for my 49th B-Day! This is an amazing house and the amount of museum quality furnishings is stunning. Since this property is on the National Historic Registry, it must be maintained to certain standards. Well, I think this house sets new registry standards. From the second you walk into the foyer, until the second you leave, you have this wonderful sense that time has stopped in some by-gone era. It's actually too much to take in at first glance. You really must spend some time in awe and wonder at the amount of antiques and details this house offers. About the owners and service: We arrived by cab and while getting out, my girlfriend slammed the door onto her thumb! So instead of some normal form of checking in and subsequent tour, she was blessed by being attended to by Myra, the property's manager. She was so sweet and caring, that we felt immediately felt at home. After Myra patched my girlfriend up, she briefly showed us around and took us to our room. It was amazing! We booked the Canopy Room with whirlpool bathtub. The feather bed was so comfy! At breakfast, the next day we got to meet Lanning and his wonderful wait staff. Everyone catered to us as if we were family and we truly felt like we have been staying there for years. Lanning took time from his very busy catering schedule to show us some of his museum pieces and they truly are museum quality finds. Ancient Chinese porcelain, rare sculptures, period specific furniture, etc. Thank you so much Lanning, for making the time to show us a more personal take on your history, family and how you came to be the proud owner of this incredibly establishment. We can hardly wait to return to visit! Your friends in Centralia, WA!

Our stay was lovely. The Staff were most friendly and helpful. Breakfast was amazing every day!! If we go to Oregon again, we would definitely stay at Portland's White House again. A wonderful stay..

Portland's White House clearly took the time to add extra details for guests which really make your visit even more personal -- gourmet chocolates and cookies when we arrived, for example. We were lucky enough to get the Garden room, which had a private veranda and it was wonderful. Breakfast was fantastic. I would love to stay here again if back in Portland!

Quite simply there is no reason to do any research on finding a place in Portland. Just go to the White House and you will know it was the right decision. We have been there three times and this time we brought friends along. Now they are telling others and everyone will know this is the perfect place in Portland. It so fits the personality of Portland and its location and breakfast can't be beat. We love it!

We really enjoyed our stay here! It is a beautiful house with cozy amenities. They had a wonderful sit-down breakfast every morning as well. We only ate with everyone one of the mornings, because we wanted to sleep in and they cut off breakfast at 9am. But they were accommodating by letting us bring some breakfast items into our room when we couldn't make it to the formal breakfast. We stayed in the Carriage House (Blarney Room) and it was clean and cozy. The only complaint I have is that the neighborhood can be loud that they are located in and I didn't sleep too well. This could have also been due to the room right next to us and the fact that you can hear everything that they are doing. Other than that, the area is beautiful, the B&B is clean and I would recommend this place for sure!

We just returned from a four day stay at Portland White House, where the service was impeccable! Talk about value added! Wow! We stayed in the coach house. Our room was small, (The Blarney), but adequate. The staff went way beyond to help us have the best experience possible, having it be our first visit to Portland. (Thank yous are coming directly and soon!) They provided us with maps, personal directions, along with recommendations of places to see and things to do. I have stayed at many B & Bs, and they definitely receive a "thumbs up" from us. Highly recommend.

This is a beautiful historic inn in a quiet neighborhood. The hosts were friendly and helpful. Our well-decorated room was small, but it had everything we needed. The bed was super comfortable. Breakfast was the only thing that didn't meet our expectations. Although nicely presented, the Belgian waffles were surprisingly tough and chewy. Overall, it was a great place to stay!

This White House makes every guest feel like a president! It is a gorgeous home in a beautiful historical neighborhood, quiet and park-like, but with easy access to downtown Portland. It is the perfect accommodation for folks attending the Irvington Home Tour. Maya, Lanning, and all of the staff were welcoming, pleasant, and enthusiastic. The breakfasts were amazing--baked eggs on goat cheese in a pastry shell with elk and bore sausage--for example. Wow!

Thoroughly enjoyed staying at this fine establishment. Quite the beehive of activity, but Lanning made himself available for any/all questions. Simply lovely surroundings!
4.6 on May 20, 2015
The breakfast was amazing! Everyone we encountered at the inn was fantastic as well. The only item that could have used improvement is that the room smelled musty- but that's part of being in an older building. Also, we were 'upgraded' - but .. The room we were 'upgraded' to was not as nice as the original one we had booked.

I was given clear instructions to accommodate my late arrival. An envelope with a key and further instructions was ready when I got in. The website and photos do not do justice to the appearance and hospitality of Portland's White House. It Is easy to find, comfortable and convenient. The breakfast offerings are amazing, and the extra touches were outstanding...chocolate chip/oatmeal cookies in the room each day, truffles at the bedside, copious amounts of hot water in the shower all provided for a memorable stay. The staff was friendly and helpful. The neighborhood was pleasant for early morning walks and felt safe when parking at night.

B&B full of antiques. The hosts were professional and welcoming. The room was very clean and spacious. Location not the closest to downtown but the area is very quiet and it's a beautiful home that it makes up for that. But by far, the best part was the food. The breakfast they prepare for their guests is superb. Thank you.

We just enjoyed a return visit. Lanning, Myra and staff are very cordial. We come to visit our kids & grandkids a few streets over. Everything you would wish for - chocolates, bottled water, great cookies. And, each a.m., a sumptuous breakfast on beautiful china. Time stops here - a casual classic.

Pluses: Incredible decor- the antiques were amazing and prolific. Excellent service, very warm. Excellent breakfasts. Fabulous location- great older neighborhood with mature trees and vegetation, only a short bus ride from downtown. A nice high street (to borrow a British term) only 2 blocks away. Minus: There is a point where quaint descends into shabby. That point was passed in the bathroom of the Baron's room, where we stayed. It is badly in need of renovation. Tile floor and wall tiles were probably clean, but past the point where they could ever look clean again and there were a number of cracks. Shower was probably solid enough, but felt precarious. And the wallpaper was noticeably peeling. Also, if you are going to offer in-room internet service, make sure it is reliable and reasonably performant. Otherwise, just don't offer it- would not have missed it if it weren't there, but hated the fact that it was slow and iffy.

We stayed in the Balcony Room and enjoyed a lovely glass of wine on said balcony (although it could have used a thorough wipe down & sweeping) overlooking the quiet, fountain and street below. The room was nice, the bed very comfortable and squishy- just the way we like it. The walls were thin which was not a surprise for a home of this era, but it was a bother to hear others in the room above us arrive noisily at 10:00 pm. The bathroom had a great, updated walk-in shower with double shower heads on either end of it. The thoughtful touches of two chocolates and two yummy cookies were super. The breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed chatting with our fellow guests. We also enjoyed a good stretch of the legs the evening before walking to SE so we could restaurant hop for a great dinner and then dessert.
Thank you for the feedback. It's always helpful to know what might need attention. Especially with this crazy weather we've been having, rain hail & wind one minute and bright & sunny the next! The room above is rarely stayed in, thank you for letting us know! Lanning just bought a gorgeous turn of the century rug... I think it should go up there! Again, thank you for taking the time to let us know and w look forward to welcoming you back again.

We almost didn't stay here because I read a couple reviews saying that the customer service was poor and the guests felt like they were an inconvenience to the owner and manager. Our experience was very positive! Both Lanning and Myra were very friendly and helpful. The decoration is beautiful and authentic. You can tell that the owner didn't try to cut corners and save money on purchases. Beautiful, historical home. Would love to visit again!

My husband and I stayed here for one night as a little mini getaway on a Thursday night and really, really enjoyed our stay. Our room, the Canopy Room, was so lovely, and the staff was very friendly and helpful! Our breakfast was homemade waffles with fresh frit and bacon, and was very good. The staff never let our coffee get cold, either! Excellent service. We hope to come again for another stay, and this time to stay a few nights instead of just one.

We just spent three terrific nights. The house is spacious, beautiful, comfortable, and inviting. Breakfasts were a great way to start the day. We were served a mushroom and caramelized onion quiche in a hash brown crust the first day, corned beef eggs Benedict with a mustard Hollandaise sauce on day two, and a sausage and eggs with spaghetti squash and gravy on day three. All three dishes were outstanding. Breakfast conversations were always lively and interesting with the other guests. The Rose Room was large and comfortable. We slept very well in the king sized bed. The only thing I can say we were not ready for was the tub shower, it has shower curtains going all the way around. The curtains become bothersome by narrowing your showering space quite a bit while washing. Myra and Lanning the Innkeepers made every effort to assure our stay was pleasurable. I would recommend the White House to anyone I know. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are already planning our next trip.

Traveling on business, I decided to spend a night in Portland before my meeting. The decor in every room of this B&B was beautiful and in particular my bedroom was lovely with a private bathroom. The size of this B&B was impressive, though it seemed to be off-season so I had the entire place to myself. Staff remained unobtrusive and breakfast was tasty. ~ Piper J. Drake

My daughter and I stayed at Portland's White House for a week. It was an ideal place to re-energize each evening after a day of investigating Oregon's Universities. We felt very at home and well cared for. Breakfast was always fabulous and my daughter's vegetarian diet was taken into consideration and provided for each day.

1. Inn: The price was 20-25% higher than I have paid for comparable inns. 2. Myra's service and attention to detail was superb.3. A house keeper on the second floor of the main building did not greet me and returned my "good morning" without enthusiasm.
Thank you for taking the time to give us a review. We appreciate the feedback. I do apologize for our housekeeper on staff that day... that seems so out of character for her, even with the language barrier, she's always smiling. In regards to pricing, we are actually very competitive to other Portland lodging establishments and have a range starting from, $135 a night to $235... So sorry you felt the value wasn't there. We strive to provide the best with Moonstruck Chocolates, homemade cookies, Molten Brown Amenities and fresh eggs from our chickens. Plus lots of fresh fruit everyday. Hope you will give us another try.... we like you!

We found Portland's White House simply by doing a Google search and were more than pleased during our 3-night stay! The house and rooms were well kept and very comfortable. We had the opportunity to meet Lanning and Myra upon our arrival and immediately felt welcomed. They recommend some locals restaurants for dinner, assisted in making our reservations and we could not have been more pleased with their choices. The establishments they suggested had great food and wonderful service. We were also pleasantly surprised with a treat at the restaurant on their behalf. The Rose room was enjoyable and the bed was very comfortable. We looked forward to finding fresh cookies and chocolate in the room each day. Breakfast each morning was wonderful! The guest service from the team working here was also excellent. Very hospitable and attentive. The location was convenient within the city. Parking was right out in front. We will indeed plan to return in the future. We highly recommend!
Welcome to the family!!! And thank you for the lovely review! Just pulling the cookies out of the oven... I think we should eat one for you! Giggle.

My husband and I stayed at Portland's White House for Valentine's Day and could not have been happier with our experience. We checked in in the early evening after competing in a 50k trail run that day. Lanning and Myra were both there to greet us and introduce themselves. Myra showed us around a little bit and then showed us to our room. We stayed in the Rose Room, which was beautiful. The details throughout the entire Inn were amazing. In the morning, Lanning made a delicious breakfast that was so much more than we expected. We are both vegetarian and while the other guests enjoyed some incredible (by their words) dishes with meat options, Lanning tailored a meal to our needs that was beyond delicious. Overall, our stay was amazing. It was comfortable, welcoming, in a beautiful neighborhood in NE Portland, so charming, and we will absolutely be coming back.

After researching Portland's White House online we decided the Blarney Room would be perfect for us -- and it was. We parked our car on arriving and never used it again until we reluctantly left for home. Initially we were concerned our location east of the river would be inconvenient. However, easy access to public transit and mild weather made exploring Portland on foot a breeze. Each day we left Portland's White House fortified with a breakfast both decadent and nourishing. Each night we helped ourselves to hot tea and the fresh treats left in our room. The bed was comfortable, the room quiet and well appointed, and our hosts Myra and Lanning were beyond gracious. We look forward to our next visit.

We were "okay" with our stay at Portland's White House. It was clean and the service was wonderful. I know this is advertised as a renovated old mansion, but I was expecting something along the lines of The Benson Hotel lobby, downtown Portland, which is where we usually stay. However, it wasn't like that.To me it was an old house full of antiques. Our bedroom was fine and the bed was extremely comfortable. However, the bed and bath in the Rose Room (can't speak to other rooms) are not designed for "senior citizens." The bed was very high off the ground and the shower was in an old claw footed tub--hard to get into and out of and nothing to hang on to; both could be problematic for older folks. There are a few shops, coffee shops within walking distance, which is nice. Lloyd Center is close for walking if your into malls. But for good restaurants and shops one needs transportation.
Thank you for taking the time to let us know your thoughts regarding your stay at Portland's White House. The Inn is quite large and gracious with eight guest rooms and lovely parlors filled with fine art and antiques. We do have a mix of rooms with the old fashion claw-footed bathtubs (period to the house), Jacuzzi Tubs and four of the rooms with shower stalls. We wish we would have known your dislike so we could of maybe moved you to a room without the claw-footed tub. We are in a lovely neighborhood of good restaurants, however, Portland is blessed with amazing restaurants that are 1+ miles away. Thank you again and we wish you a wonderful new year!

We felt like honored guests from the moment we walked through the front door to the time we checked out the next day. I do wish, though, that we'd known that a party was taking place that afternoon; while most of the guests weren't noisy, a couple of children seemed to take a liking to the piano and played the same opening 8 bars of what sounded like a Coldplay song for the better part of an hour (interspersed with "Chopsticks" and "Heart & Soul"). Other than that, our visit was top notch!
You are honored guests!!! We appreciate you picking us for your stay and taking the time to write your review after it. We do apologize for the amateur pianist (totally out of character for the inn) and have implemented a new rule in our guests playing the piano (no matter how much the parents think their child knows how to play). Thank you again and happy New Year!

The Portland White house is gorgeous and in beautiful condition, the breakfast was definitely 5 star, as was the service. My only disappointment was The Chauffer's Quarters. We paid more for it than any other room in the house and their wasn't even a place for us to sit and eat a meal. The television was archaic and so small that we opted to watch a movie on our lap top. The gate to the carriage house banged so loudly every time someone walked through that it woke us up or startled us during conversation. A spring to quite it's closing seems an easy fix? There is room enough for a sitting area with a small table if the ginormous armoire would be removed or replaced with something much smaller. The bed was fabulous, as were the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, but the red wine was nearly undrinkable for $20.00. Lastly, parking would be much better if the management marked off a spot for each room in the house the lack of place to park our car on a dark and rainy night is a draw back. We would definitely stay at The Portland White house again, but not in the Chauffeur's Quarters.

We stayed in the Baron's Room and had a wonderful experience. The room is very comfortable and the staff were helpful and friendly. Portland's White House went above and beyond the hospitality of other B&B's by providing us with a plate of fresh-made cookies and chocolate truffles when we arrived.

We really enjoyed our stay here, it's an incredible piece or Portland history turned into an amazing Bed and Breakfast! Lanning and Myra were both extremely friendly, both excellent cooks too, the food was excellent. The other staff were also courteous and professional, exactly the type of people you would hope to meet at a place like this. If you like antiques, the collection on display all throughout the mansion is amazing. There is plently of room to have guests over too, the main floor living room/sitting room area is tastefully decorated with antiques and antique furniture. It's also in a quiet high end neighborhood of Portland but is still only 5-15 minutes from everything. Overall we loved this place and would highly recommend it to anyone!

We selected the Portland White House for our wedding. The setting is lush and intimate. We talked to the owner, Lanning Blanks, over iced tea on a hot summer day. He is the epitome of the gracious southern host. The White House was the first place we visited and there was no reason to look elsewhere -- it has everything. The setting is lovely, the staff is exceptional and the food is to die for. We knew that they would be good and that we could turn everything over to them without a worry, but it went way beyond that. They have done this enough before that they made sure that we were the first one through the food line so that we could get a few bites in before the guests came in. They also took special care of one of our guests who had difficulty walking. It was a treat the next day to end our wedding with family as overnight guests and with everyone enjoying fresh fruit, muffins and Crab Benedict for breakfast. We've traveled all around the world and stayed at some fabulous hotels and locations, none is better then this. We are lucky to live in the Northwest and to have this fine place in our city.

I chose Portland's White House because it was within walking distance of a workshop I was attending for 3 days. It had received good reviews, but still wasn't quite sure what to expect since this was my first stay at a B and B. One reviewer said it was elegant without being pretentious and I think that sums it up completely: Beautifully decorated, stately and quiet. My room was clean and comfy, the breakfasts were outstanding and the staff was friendly. It was a real treat and I would definitely stay there again!

My husband and I enjoyed our recent 2 night stay at the White House. We appreciated the friendly hospitality, attention to detail and tasty breakfasts. The location was convenient for the plan to attend a Trailblazers game at Moda Center and also to drive out for a day trip along the Columbia River. However, it was also not far to drive in to downtown Portland. We would gladly book a room again at the White House for future Portland visits.

Two large warm cookies were waiting for us, as were two lovely pieces of chocolate. Everything was comfortable and nicely done. We loved our stay and will be back.

Everything about this stay was fantastic! The inn is beautiful, bed luxuriant, breakfast tasty (ditto for the fresh oatmeal butterscotch cookie that greets you when you arrive), and innkeepers wonderfully friendly.

The room, grounds and breakfast were very nice. The room could do with cleaning in the corners. The bathroom was also nice. The bed was very tall and difficult to get into and out of and shook when moving. The mattress was not comfortable. We liked the cookies each day.

Our recent stay at Portland's White House was just wonderful. It is located in the historic district of Irvington so you can get up and walk around the delightful neighborhood enjoying the wonderful architecture. The rooms are very nice and cozy. They give you great cookies and chocolates. We could open our windows to the wonderful cool air outside. It becomes an experience like you are at home. During all of our visits the other guests seem nice and interesting. I just love this place and will stay there whenever possible. One last advantage - it is very close to airport (15 minute ride) so it served as a great place to stay before we left the next morning. Many good restaurants are nearby - consider OX.

What a beautiful property. Bed was incredibly comfortable. Stayed in one of the smaller rooms that was very well equipped, nicely decorated. Breakfast was awesome. Myra is the epitome of what an outstanding hostess should be. Very personable and gracious. Jason, who assists as the server is very outgoing, polished young man who also has a fleet of vans that he maintains for overnight camping in the Northwest. Can't wait to return. And I will.

My wife and I truly enjoyed our stay at the White House. I was not familiar with this area of Portland but was pleasantly suprised by how quiet and green the area was. It was raining most of the weekend so we did not get to explore much on foot but what we did see what quite charming. The house itself is immaculately decorated; it seemed that each room had its own charm. The breakfast was essentially made to order and was delicious and ample. In short, you cannot go wrong with the White House.

My wife and I stayed here one night and although we were pretty rushed getting in late and having to leaving early, we very much enjoyed our stay. The staff was very accommodating for our travel schedule. The house itself is magnificent and the breakfast in the morning was outstanding.

All the rooms are beautiful. House is elegant. Breakfasts wonderful. Lanning is (proprietor) delightful. Located in a quiet neighborhood so you can get a good nights sleep on the comfy beds. Close to downtown Portland and yet there are several local spots to walk to for dinner if you don't want to drive. Met several interesting people from all over at breakfast. All were satisfied with the accommodations. Definitely recommended.

Spent two nights at The White House at the end of September. Arrived and greeted by Lanning at the door. The Maple Leaf flag at the Portico entrance was the first of the little hospitality touches that made us feel welcome ..and at home ! We had the Carolina room which was perfect for our time in Portland. The cookies and the chocolates in the room were decadent ( Kristin ......well done !) The location is very easy to get to downtown Portland, either by car or transit. A variety of restaurants are within walking distance of the White House. We had travelled quite a distance before arriving so, grabbed some cheese, meats, bread and a bottle of Willamette Valley wine and sat out on the patio and relaxed ...totally ! First morning , breakfast was ready at the time we had asked, and we sat at a large dining table with other guests. A great way to get travel tips ! ....and the breakfast, Lanning's eggs Benedict were OUT OF THIS WORLD. Day 2 breakfast was Mexican themed, not spicy hot unless you requested, and all the extras fresh fruit, muffins available. Great start to a day of touring ! The parking is street side on a quiet street and no problem getting a space. We had a few requests of the staff, and they were very helpful in providing what we asked for. This facility is extremely well appointed with antiques in the common rooms. The guest rooms are similarly appointed . Micro and refrigerator not avail in the Carolina room, but any items requiring cold or heat, just head to the kitchen. This is one of those B & B's that will linger in our memory for a few years. Our place to stay in Portland !

We would definitely stay at the White House B&B on our next return to Portland. Facility was more than expected. It is a home restored to its original time period. We felt very welcomed, staff was very professional and food was extraordinary. NMB

We stayed in the balcony room and it was nice, but cold inside and the thermostat never moved the temp despite changing the setting. Otherwise a nice, grand, old home in a neat setting of other nice big old homes and easy to walk to some local shops.

Our Innkeeper was truly a gourmet cook. The breakfasts were superb and the company was totally entertaining. And it's no wonder he keeps the Family Cookie Recipe a secret! Those cookies were the very BEST! We loved every minute.

Our stay at Portland's White House was fabulous! The property is really amazing and the service was outstanding. The breakfast each morning was fresh and delicious. We will be back!

We won our room in a silent auction; not knowing anything about the White House, we hoped we would come close to getting our money's worth. Once we arrived? Wow! It's a beautiful place, located just minutes from anything we wanted to do. Lanning's breakfast was outstanding, and the room was uber-comfy. It will be our favorite Portland getaway for years to come.

The White House is a stately home with beautiful rooms and grounds. Would recommend the Garden Room with its private balcony and corner location. Breakfast is a treat served in an elegant formal dining room. Portland has excellent public transportation and limited parking so it is not necessary to have a car for sightseeing.
1.8 on October 02, 2014
we were not allowed to wheel our luggage acrosss the expensive carpet, don't get make-up on the monogramed wash clothes, breakfast was cold and the bacon greasy. The gourmet breakfast turned out to be a quesadilla. When the written directions failed and I called for help I was told to use my smart phone. Seriously, you put cookies in thrroomand think you are providing a welcoming atmosphere, think again.

The beauty of our accommodations, the quiet neighborhood and having restaurants and shopping within easy walking distance made our stay memorable. The exceptional service volunteered to make taxi arrangements for us when I simply mentioned we were flying out the next day. I am used to not eating out, having a low carbohydrate diet, but once the Portland's White house found out they went out of their way to meet my dietary needs. This Bed and Breakfast is outstanding. Thanks.

Lovely room, not very large, but beautifully decorated. Fantastic breakfast. The only thing that was bothering was the AC/fan. The A/C can be turned off, but the fan continued to blow at a very high level. But all in all it was a pleasant stay.

I grew up in this neighborhood and it was a lot for fun for me to finally get to stay here and get to see the inside of this place. The house is beautiful, the staff are very friendly and the food was delicious! (You wont go hungry!!) Unexpectedly, the bed was extremely comfortable. (You never really know what you're going to get with a bed) A wonderful place to stay and (I think) the best in the area.
5 on September 13, 2014
Not only was Lanning a superb chef, he was a very kind man, inviting our son and his family to join us for the amazing breakfasts as his guests. (They lived a block away.) The interior, full of period pieces, and the grounds were impeccable. It enhanced our stay in Portland a great deal

We were trying to find a great place to stay for our daughter's wedding that would allow us to take great wedding pictures. The White House is one of the most beautiful and amazing places to stay and the pictures are sure to be fantastic. The staff goes above and beyond to make your stay memorable. From the daily yummy family secrete palm sized chocolate cookies placed in your room daily to the formal breakfast each morning complete with bacon, eggs, waffles and a wide variety of fruit. The owner Lanning pulls out all the stops and even had a bottle of champagne waiting for the new bride and groom in their room. When you compare prices the White House is comparable to many of the local chain hotels and the White House includes breakfast and does not charge for parking. Wonderful stay. Thanks Lanning, Myra and crew. We will be back!!!!

I would highly recommend this great bed and breakfast. The owner is a great chef and very personable. I highly recommend this place.

We stayed two different nights in two different rooms. The Rose room was very comfortable and the street lights less noticeable (both rooms needed room darkening shades to block street lights). The water coming through the shower head in the Rose Room was just a trickle. The shower in the Baron room was full flow. Both have claw foot tubs, so tough to enter and exit. Both rooms had very comfortable beds. Parking can be challenging especially if you do not know how to parallel park. The owner is a character, and mildly scolded us for being 10 minutes late to breakfast as it cramped his "busy schedule" of things to do in the morning. He also demanded payment even though we had already paid our bill and it was clearly marked as prepaid - minor oversight. Overall, I would return. It was a very restful stay and close to amenities.

We stayed in the Carolina Room in the Carriage House. The room is very nice, and the bed is extremely comfortable. Although I did suggest to Lanning that a step ladder to get up onto the high bed would be of benefit to short people such as my wife and I :-) Lanning was a very accommodating host, allowing us to do some washing and use the ironing board etc. His breakfast of waffles and fresh berries was delicious. The only thing I could suggest to make the stay perfect is that because the Carriage House is separate from the main house, so if you wanted to get a late night cup of tea or coffee you had to go outside to the main house, as there are no facilities for this in the Carriage House. But a minor criticism in what was a really nice over night stay. We would definitely stay there again. Thanks Lanning for an enjoyable stay. PS. Please try to stock a jar of Vegemite for future Aussie guests :-)

We had a most wonderful stay at Portland's White House.on the 25th and 26th of August 2014. Every aspect of our stay was thoroughly enjoyable. Our room was extremely comfortable and very clean. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. Lanning the innkeeper was terrific and his breakfast were out of sight, especially his South Carolina breakfast of fried chicken and waffles. He was helpul and informative about his beautiful renovation of the inn and made us feel right at home. The inn itself is beautiful and the appointments are superb. On our return to Portland we would not consider staying elsewhere. Barbara and Burt Turek

Our stay at the White House was exceptional. The house is immaculate; the furnishings extraordinary. The food was outlandish; the service impeccable and the house tour provided by the host was enjoyable and informative. It felt as every detail of our stay had been well designed and then each was executed to perfection. Can't wait to go back and be completely spoiled by the accommodations and staff at the Portland White House!!!

We had the best time! Lanning, the innkeeper, made space for us last minute. And that was incredibly lucky because this place is gorgeous, quiet, has easy parking, great location, comfy beds, and the greatest gourmet breakfasts I have ever had. We had a mixed experience at the White House. The house and grounds are lovely and in a nice, quiet neighborhood. We stayed in the carriage house. Our room was small but nicely furnished. The mattress was saggy and somewhat uncomfortable. The air conditioner was not working either, which made the room stuffy. We did receive a small discount on our bill to reflect that, however. The breakfasts were delicious!

We stayed two nights in the Canopy Room, and everything about our stay was fantastic. The bed is huge, soft, and fluffy, there are many wonderful details that made the room special. Breakfast was delicious, served by friendly staff, and presented in a gorgeous formal dining room. This is what all bed & breakfasts should be...

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a couple of days in late July and loved it - the White House is located in a cute neighborhood on the east side of Portland (Downtown was very accessible via short cab ride). We loved the breakfasts and enjoyed getting to know the other guests. Lanning was a great host and helped us choose some great restaurants for dinner. Favorite part was that he got us a reservation last minute for our "honeymoon" -- it wasn't our honeymoon but we loved the place, the free appetizer we got, and funny story we got to share at the next morning's breakfast! :)

We were totally taken back the by the beauty of the White House as we entered the front door. Our room was the icing on the cake with an amazing four post king bed, music, fresh baked cookies, and the list goes on. After riding the STP's 200+ miles for the for the first time, this made my tired muscles disappear.

Last weekend we hosted two wedding events at Portland's White House. We not only took over all of the rooms in the White House but we also held a special dinner for out-of-towners as well as a Sunday brunch. Our guests raved about the beautiful rooms, their fabulous nights' sleep, and the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The White House is gorgeous inside and out with lovely yet warm and welcoming furnishings. The food Lanning prepared for our Friday night special dinner and Sunday brunch was out of this world. Everything was homemade, local, elegant, bountiful, and delicious. We had one guest with very severe dietary restrictions and Lanning went to the trouble of making her special meals for both of those occasions plus her daily breakfasts. Lanning and his staff were so patient with us as we planned our special celebration and we were so grateful for his creative suggestions and ideas. They made our weekend easy, fun, and memorable. In the past I've also held Corporate meetings at Portland's White House and Lanning is always a joy to work with. I can't say enough about how extraordinary our experience was with Portland's White House. If you have an important event, I highly recommend it.

Our stay at Portland's White House was full of pleasant surprises. When we arrived at our room, we found bottled water, two chocolates and two fresh baked cookies waiting in our room. The bed was fantastically comfortable, and the breakfast each morning was a culinary delight. In addition, the White House is located fairly centrally and is within easy driving distance of Portland's attractions.

Portland's White House offers you a great stay with amazing service just outside of downtown! My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights while we explored the city and all that it offers. It's distance from downtown poses no challenge, especially if you've rented a car. The staff was tremendous! Lanning and his team really worked hard to make us feel at home. The homemade breakfasts were delicious, made with love from local ingredients! Even sweeter than the savory breakfast dishes like shrimp eggs benedict and locally made sausages were the unforgettable baked goods like muffins and rhubarb dutch babies. I continue to crave the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies that were placed in our room each day! The private bathrooms and well appointed rooms make for a wonderful bed and breakfast experience. Our bathroom had a claw-foot tub, which made showering a tad bit challenging at times, but otherwise, everything exceeded expectations. I would definitely return to Portland's White House the next time we're in town! Thanks to Lanning and his crew for an amazing stay!

What a charming B&B. The staff was wonderful, very friendly and extremely accommodating. It's located in a cute, quiet neighborhood on the outskirts of downtown. Having a car is great to drive to and around in downtown, but not necessary if you are a walker. We walked to the convention center and downtown on several occasions. We liked that we were not in the middle of the tourist section, but close enough to walk or drive to.

We stayed 3 nights and wished it could have been longer. Attention to detail was perfect, from Molton Brown toiletries to gold embossed towels, a 3 course breakfast cooked to your liking and even a chilled bottle of champagne for us when we got back from our run on July 4th. You have to drive a few minutes to downtown but really not an issue, and totally worth it to stay here.

Repeat visit from a couple of years ago. Unfortunately the management has changed. Every interaction with the "owner" was negative. He didn't like that we wanted to store bikes inside overnight since rain was predicted (and occurred). Hrr gave me a lecture about not leaving my car nearby during our 5 day bike trip because it would likely get ticketed or towed (could have been delivered as a suggestion) and when my wife didn't like the breakfast menu of breaded eggs, was told "That is what we are serving", though he did agree to provide simple eggs and toast a little while later. I'm not sure what happened to customer service but seems to be lost on this guy. The White House itself is beautiful and the rooms are elegant.
5 on July 05, 2014
we were very pleased with the service and the breakfasts, they were phenominal. the only objection was the $60.00 extra charge added on. I don't think that was fair, we were paying enough already.

I have been trying to stay here each year that I visit my son, but it has always been booked. This year I was able to stay 3 nights in the carriage house and it was wonderful. Quiet, lush and reminiscent of another era. You are surrounded by antiques in the main house that make you go back in time. Our hosts were gracious and welcoming. The chef made sure that my son would join us for breakfast one day which he did. The breakfasts were elegant and delicious. I be sure to make my plans ahead of time so that I will be able to stay here once again.

Portland's White House offered grand estate elegance combined with the charm and comfort of a quaint home. Situated in a beautiful residential historic district, this is an area of Portland we would never had experienced had we stayed in a hotel. Everything about our stay was of outstanding quality; the décor of the room, the bed & linens, the outstanding breakfast and the indescribably delicious cookies waiting for us upon our arrival! We felt like we were staying with warm, loving friends that we haven't seen in years.

Great B&B! - They allowed us to stay in a $235 room for $180. Very accommodating. - Free cookies and water. - Such a beautiful house. - Only the food did not meet my - admittedly lofty - expectations. Waffle was not crisp and there were a few burnt black bits on it that I had to pick off. OVERALL WOULD RECOMMEND.

The cookies left by our bedside everyday (AMAZING, so HUGE, so DELICIOUS) better than mom used to make!!!! The breakfasts that we devoured, gorged on, enjoyed were unbelievable... We didn't need lunch any day we were there. If we return to Portland we would stay at the White House.

First of all, I really appreciate when an owner upgrades you to a nicer room when possible. There have been too many times when I've stayed at an inn with only 2 of 5/6 rooms taken and not been upgraded! So, this stay started off the right way when we were upgraded to the lovely carriage house. The room was great, the bed super comfy, and everything was just so. The breakfast were outstanding, the neighborhood was fabulous, and we couldn't have had a better 2 nights.

We are still marveling about the truly gourmet (and filling!) breakfasts served on antique china in the formal dining room! The guest rooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated. The owner and the manager are very friendly and helpful and ensure that guests feel welcome and comfortable. We visit Portland quite often and plan to return to Portland's White House often.

The GM is absolutely amazing, she herself prepared a wonderful breakfast including french toast, eggs, and bacon along with juice, and coffee. Stayed three nights. Fresh baked cookies very nice surprise. Each of the breakfasts served were excellent. The Chef and House maid greeted us when we arrived. Never saw the owner or given opportunity to tour this beautiful home so rich with history. Chauffeur Room offered privacy and was apart from main house. The King Size Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom nice but beware there is no place to put personal items. Be careful when walking on patio between main house and room. The wooden deck boards very soft and tend to sink down when walking on them. Rain water drains poorly off the deck so is a little slippery. All this said we would enjoyed staying there again. Home located in beautiful neighborhood and you will enjoyed walking to nearby small shops and restaurants.

We really enjoyed our stay. We were pleasantly surprised that they were able to accomodate our vegan diet. I was expecting them to give us some fruit and tea but was surpised when they not only brought over fruit, but a full-on breakfast of country potatoes and a breakfast sausage. All vegan of course. We also enjoyed how quiet the room was, we couldn't hear the other guests very much. The only time we heard another guest was when one of them decided to play the grand piano downstairs, which was a really nice sound to awaken to. The bed was amazing too, it was like a cloud. We stayed in the canopy room, don't know if the rest of the beds are this amazing.

Lovely very clean room, comfy cozy bed, great ambiance. We were upgraded to the Canopy Room which was a most appreciated compliment for our 50th Wedding Anniversary. ( A bottle of champagne/sparkling wine would have been an extra nice touch to celebrate. It was no doubt an oversight.) Nice breakfast. Elegant period decor.

I recently stayed in the Balcony Room at this bed & breakfast and had a wonderful experience. It's a beautiful building in a very convenient location. The rooms are beautiful and very clean. The staff were perfectly friendly and were able to help with everything I needed. And the food....well, it was awesome! I will be looking for an opportunity to visit Portland again so I can try out some of the other cute rooms they have. I will recommend this place to all of my friends and family.

I was at the Portland White House for only one night, but I wish it could have been more! (I did get a chance to survey the owner's collections of porcelains and other interesting art objects.) Teresa was very helpful, and even provided cookies for my grandchildren as I was leaving. All in all, I had a very nice visit.

My husband and I got a babysitter and stayed here for a night as a get-away treat. Everything was fabulous. Easy to book, photos true to the room, lovely cookies, chocolates and wine available in our room and a beautiful, beautiful home. We got a courtesy call to let us know how to get into the house if the inn keeper was away and our envelope was right there. All so easy. We got an excellent recommendation for dinner that night and enjoyed being so close to some great neighborhoods to just roam around and enjoy. Breakfast was wonderful and just the right amount. I always love staying in B&Bs that give you an opportunity to sit and talk to other travelers with great stories and recommendations. The large breakfast table leant itself to exactly this scenario. We would definitely stay here again and recommend to our friends.

Off the beaten path in a quiet neighborhood with free parking. What else can you ask for. Oh yes, a beautiful place to kick back. We've stayed in many locations in downtown Portland, but this is across the river with a family feel and wonderful staff. We will be back again and again.

We stayed at the White House and it was absolutely wonderful. It is a beautiful house and the breakfast was exceptionally good. Ever facet of our stay was perfect. I highly recommend this bed and breakfast and we are looking forward to staying here again.

An históric and opulent house; great garden patios and conservatory, a quiet neighbourhood within easy reach of everything. The food and cooking there outstanding (Sean and Teresa, thank you). The review numbers here are strictly about the room being a bit bound by the historicness of the house. One or two of them could be called 'cozy' in size. Beds enormously high, too high. Breakfast around a single table with everyone is not my favourite choice but the table is big enough it seems to allow for quests to sit quietly away at one end if that is the preference if your timing in the morning works out. All in all though, would go back.
5 on November 14, 2013
I was lucky enough to be part of a dinner party event at the White House and chose to stay 2 nights in addition to the party. The house itself is beautiful, the meals wonderfully prepared with local ingredients. The staff went out of their way to be attentive to every need. The location is perfect in a quiet neighborhood but handy to bus and rail service so if you don't have a car it's still possible to enjoy this site. I look forward to visiting again.

When we arrived, Maira ushered us in, gave us a quick tour of the house and made sure we had everything we would need for our stay...of course, the fresh baked cookies other reviewers have raved about were delicious. We stayed in the Baron's room; the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was spacious and I appreciated the windows on two walls in order to get a cross-breeze. This is an old heritage building. If you are used to modern amenities, this may not be your choice of stay. But, if you want gracious, attentive service, a delicious breakfast, and an enjoyable visit with the lovely Maira & Theresa, then I highly recommend a stay. One suggestion for the owner: write or acquire a book/pamphlet about the history of the home & the area.

This is a wonderful B&B in a lovely restored mansion. The owner and managers are friendly, warm, welcoming, and run things efficiently. The breakfast is a sit-down (rather than serve-yourself European style, which is common at many B&Bs) and outstanding. We have been here 5 or 6 times and it is our preferred place when we visit Portland from San Diego.

Stayed in the lovely rose room. When I made the reservation I mentioned that I was allergic to down. The management made sure that the down bedding was removed. This made for a very enjoyable stay.

Portland's White House is a lovely place to stay while in Portland. It's a bit like staying in a museum but with friendly folks, lovely beds, and delicious breakfasts.

We stayed three nights in September. The neighborhood was very clean and safe, taking a walk was very enjoyable. Good local merchant neighborhood a couple blocks away. The hosts were very fun and talented. The service and especially the food was incredible! Imagine- waffles and fried chicken for breakfast! They accommodated my gluten allergy very well. We loved it! Stayed in the rose room, very quiet and comfortable.

Before booking our reservation, we inquired about the different rooms and mentioned that we prefer quite. We we told all the rooms are quiet and chose the Balcony room. It is probably the least quiet room. It is situated over the front door, so we heard everyone going in and out. The room is nearest to the fountain in the front yard, so we heard water running day and night. It is also the only room that has a third floor apartment over it (for someone who lives onsight) so we could hear people walking around above us. We could hear the people in the next room, which is probably a problem with all the rooms. Maintenance was not great. The light bulb over our mirror needed replaced and it never was. The bathroom sink drained poorly and we ran out of Kleenex. They do not keep extra supplies in the room, so you have to search around for someone to help you. The innkeepers were nice and the food was good; we would not stay here again, though.

What a wonderful and charming place at Portland's White House. Everything was just perfect for our visit to Portland. All of the staff went out of their way to make our stay the best ever. Great food, great atmosphere and friendly faces throughout. We will definitely be back in the future and recommend to anyone to stay at this beautiful B&B!

What a friendly, customer focused place. Our room was just as the pictures on their website and the social space was relaxing and friendly. When we arrived in the early afternoon, I commented that my wife had not eaten lunch and before you knew it our hostess had brought her a bowl of soup and some cheese and crackers. Would definitely stay again.

We had told the owner we would arrive at 5:00. He was not at the front door at 5:00, did not answer the doorbell, it was raining hard outside and so other guests invited us in the front door. When the owner arrived, he scolded us for 5 minutes about gaining entrance without him and said he would be talking to the guests who were kind enough to let us in out of the rain. While I understand the place has been robbed, I did not appreciate being scolded like a child. Room was lovely and breakfast was divine but I don't think we will return.

We had a great time in Portland. Our stay at the Portland Whitehouse was great. The service was super - as were the breakfasts. Very well located - ie: near the transit (MAX) system - and very quiet. Our (my) only complaint was that my side of the bed squeaked - and it was not a weight thing as it squeaked for my lighter-weighted wife as well.

If you go to Portland, Portland's White House is a "must" for you!! Everything was exceptional from the hosts, to the room, to the beautiful surroundings to the cookies in the room - everything to make the guests feel special. And, the breakfast was to die for!! The best 2 days I have spent in a long time. I would highly recommend this wonderful B&B to anyone looking for a memorable experience!

What a fabulous way to end our first time trip to Oregon. Our room (Blarney in the Carriage House) was quaint and the bed really comfy. Chocolates and homemade cookies from the kitchen were waiting for us. We stayed two nights, which meant we got to ENJOY two morning breakfasts. Words cannot even describe the delicious food prepared for us. Lanning and his welcoming staff were just what we needed for our last two days in the beautiful state of Oregon.

I had some reservations being my first trip to Oregon based on other posh locations. It is a marvelous historic mansion in an old neighborhood. A classic really. If you like antiques, old mansions, gardens, pianos and candlelight breakfast then this is the place. The owner is delightful to talk to and has many interesting stories especially the reconstruction of the house. What B&Bs are all about. Gary & Lynda

We had a delightful stay in the Portland Withe House. We visit Portland often and this was the first time we decided to stay in a B&B, we made a terrific choice. The location is very good in a nice quiet neighborhood in NE Portland near shopping and restaurants - but you certainly don't need to look for a place for breakfast (or lunch for that matter), the breakfast each morning was different (only in what we were served). Each morning was as good or better than the previous, we were there for 4 of these mouthwatering and tasty meals. Our room was lovely and looked out over the backyard and into lush greenery. We are looking forward to our next visit to the exquisite B & B. It is truly Outstanding.

What a beautiful place Portland's White House was! Even though it is in the Western Oregon coast, felt like a little touch of Savannah with the mansion charm, and the hospitality from all the staff. Truly a wonderful experience, we will be sure to return next time our travels take us to the west coast!

I loved, loved, loved it. It is even more beautiful than it looks on the website. My room was beautiful, comfortable and all I could have hoped for. The staff was very courteous and the food delicious. If you are ever in Portland - or live in Portland - I highly recommend a stay at the Portland White House. By the way - those cookies left in the room are spectacular! Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Stayed at the Portland White House B&B for one night while in Portland. We were so impressed with the stately home, magnificent decor, and service. It is obvious that attention to detail is a priority. Lanning, the owner, went out of his way to help us with our late arrival. This B&B is truly a gem.

My husband and I stayed here for our 5-yr wedding anniversary. We were in the Canopy Room, and loved how grand the room felt, from the massive canopy bed to the fun chandelier and the jetted tub in the bathroom. The house was really quiet and the staff was helpful but also gave us privacy. Breakfast in the morning was delicious and very creative, and the company from the other lodgers was very pleasant. Even after we checked out, the owners were happy to mail me an item I left behind. Overall it was a really nice experience!!!

This home is large and luxurious. Most rooms have private baths. The common areas are riddled with old trinkets, antiques, art and curious corners that invite inquiry. There are a couple of patios in back, a nice front yard and an imposing entry. The center stair way invokes a feeling of Gone with the Wind... and "Frankly I don't give a damn". The balcony room (where we stayed) has a curved balcony under the portico with flags flying and thick roman columns supporting the whole thing. If you have a dream.... and want to shout to the huddled masses below then this could be a place to play out your fantasy. "Don't cry for me Argentina"... let my people go.... We have hope... keep the faith... stay calm and carry on....:)

We stayed in the Blarney Room which was the least expensive but a little too small for comfort so I would recommend treating yourself to a larger room which were elegant and spacious. A wonderful stay at a grand lady of a Bed & Breakfast. This place oozes charm of another era. The food was outstanding as was the service. The room was a tad small, but of course in the day it was built this was the norm. The setting is a quiet neighborhood of magnificent homes and gigantic tree-lined streets. We will definitely return. We had a wonderful stay at Portland's White House! We were only there for one night, but we'll gladly return the next time we're in the area. Our room was very clean and the welcome cookies were delicious. The staff was very nice and helpful with questions about the Portland area. The towels were a bit scratchy, but that seems to be common in the hotel/B&B industry these days. The other guests were a delight to speak with and home locations spanned the globe. The best part was Breakfast. It was the best B&B meal I've ever had and it was one of our top meals of the entire weeklong trip. The bread pudding French toast was awesome and I don't even like bread pudding. The berries were delightful and fresh from the local market. The cream was wonderful and my wife says the coffee was great too. The meal alone made the stay worthwhile, but the history of the house, our hosts, and the comfortable rooms/beds make this place a repeat destination.

Our stay at the whitehouse was fantastic- great breakfast, clean room, fresh baked cookies and chocolates waiting for us. We also loved the porch/sitting area. When we were tired one night we just got take-out and lounged here with books for a few hours- very quiet neighborhood but convenient!

We started our honeymoon in style at Portland's White House. It's a beautiful setting and great people running it. Everything about this place is top notch; from the grounds, to the decor, to the food. I love being on vacation and feeling like a local and this place was perfect for that.

4.2 on August 12, 2013
We stayed at Portland's White House on the first night of our honeymoon and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The house itself is incredibly beautiful and unique! We stayed in the Blarney Room in the carriage house (not in the main house) and the room was small but well appointed with a private bathroom, tv, and a four-poster queen bed. Great shower too! The B&B is in a beautiful neighborhood directly on a bus line to downtown (about 10-15 minutes away by bus, less by car). Breakfast in the candle-lit dining room was a highlight: the food was excellent and the staff (and other guests) were very friendly.

4.2 on August 06, 2013
We stayed 2 nights in the Chauffeur's Quarters. Highlights were the breakfasts, the great neighborhood, and overall classy and comfortable atmosphere. We could've used a few more drawers, a bathtub that drained properly, and a little bit more privacy (2 not-so-soundproof rooms above us). If we're ever back in Portland, we will definitely stay here again!

This B & B was outstanding from the time we arrived until the minute we left. We stayed in the Blarney room which is located in the coach house. It is a small room but very functional. The bed and pillows are comfortable. The only negative is the bathroom is a bit small and there was not any room to store our toiletries. The food was amazing. I had been waiting all day for the cookies and chocolates other reviewers had raved about. I was not disappointed. The cookies were delicious and so were the chocolates. I unfortunately could not get the recipe from the owner since he keeps it top secret. The breakfast in the morning was also very good. There was freshly squeezed orange juice, soufflé with fresh fruit, banana bread and all the coffee or tea you could drink. The food at this B & B made my day. The owner is very friendly and accommodating. He provided helpful recommendations on where to eat. He was also available when needed. The location of this B & B is a 12 minute easy ride to downtown. It is located in the historic district of Portland. We went for a walk in the neighborhood and the homes were beautiful in architecture and landscaping. I would not hesitate to stay here again. This is the best B & B we have stayed at since the price is very reasonable for all the amenities you get, the food is outstanding and the location is very convenient to downtown.

We only stayed one night at the Portland White House but the time we spent there was enjoyable. Our room was quite cozy. The highlight was the delicious breakfast - delectable waffles topped with heaps of fresh Oregon berries, fresh orange juice, and excellent coffee. It was the perfect meal to see us on our way. The B&B is conveniently located in the Northeast area, close to public transit and numerous restaurants. I would certainly stay here in again.

We always enjoy meeting other visitors at breakfast.

This was our second stay at Portland's White House Bed & Breakfast. Our first being 12 years ago. The house, grounds, rooms and staff are every bit as well appointed and charming, and the food as delicious as it was 12 years ago. My wife and I loved being able to walk to nearby local restaurants and shops, through this historic neighborhood. We especially enjoyed a wonderful yarn shop just two blocks away that serves tea, snacks and wonderfully unpretentious knowledgeable service. If there is a more elegant, well run and located B&B in Portland I don't know of it.

After staying at Portland’s White House, I’m going to be disappointed with anything less. I stayed in the carriage house where the rooms are smaller, but delightful and the value is outstanding. But what won me over was the personal service and amazing breakfasts, served with candlelight in an elegant dining room fit for a property called the White House. When I asked for a late arrival, they easily accommodated me and even gave me a call to make sure I had arrived safely. I can’t say enough. It would be a wonderful venue for a wedding or other important celebration.

This BB is located in Portland, Oregon, although its only minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the city life.. You would never know that until you leave the area.. We had such a nice, comfortable time in June. No problems getting taxis back into the city. The breakfast was so large we didn't need lunch! Fantastic (and large) cookies left in the room on arrival. Though the breakfast table was full, we never heard another guest. Really lovely neighborhood just a couple blocks away from the "action" of every day life. But very quiet. Would definitely stay again.

My husband and I were married last year at Portland's White House, and returned this year to celebrate our first anniversary. Last year we filled every room with family from all over the country and everyone felt at home. This year the same warm ambiance embraced us with a variety of strangers and everyone loved it. The breakfasts are beautiful and delicious, and the event catering devine. Every room feels special. The entire manor is spotlessly elegant and welcoming. The staff presents a perfect blend of camaraderie and respect. The location is surprisingly close to downtown so you can easily drive to business centers, or just stroll a few blocks to local boutique shopping. I've stayed at many B&B's, and this one tops the list for quality and value.

We stayed in the Chauffeur's Quarters -- a lovely room in the adjacent building to the Whie House. It was clean with plenty of light. As an older place, the walls were not particularly thick, but, thankfully, all of the rest of the guests were quiet and this was not an issue. I had given the White House a heads up about food allergies and they had a safe, delicious breakfast waiting for us. We absolutely loved staying in the Irvington neighborhood where the White House is located. We'll be back!
4.6 on May 20, 2013
The room was beyond comfortable, and the bed -- higher off the ground than any mattress i've ever slept in -- was fabulous. The breakfast was top-notch, and the chef came out to make sure we were taken care of. Two little nitpicks -- would have loved help with my luggage up the narrow staircase. And management was there on check in but couldn't find a human anywhere when it was time to check out, so I left my keys in my room with the door open.

We arrived one day early without a reservation for the unexpected night. Our gracious host Lanning upgraded our room for both nights of our stay to the Balcony room! We loved the little balcony and the double shower heads in the bathroom. The room was beautiful as was the entire home, which was luxuriously decorated. Lanning and Teresa were the perfect hosts, they made us feel like part of the family. The breakfasts were fabulous and the homemade cookies and lattes were delicious! I would definitely recommend The Portland White House to anyone visiting Portland. I know where I'm staying the next time I'm in town!

We received a gift certificate to stay at the White House and we are glad we had the chance to experience this quaint b&b. After walking around Portland all day it was nice to come back to a cozy bed. We have to say that our favorite part, besides our stay, was the excellent food. The macaroons, the oatmeal cookies, the French toast - all the best my wife have ever had - by far. Kudos to the owners and chefs there, they really do a great job!

We couldn't have enjoyed our stay more. The breakfasts were fantastic. We stayed for six nights and every morning we had something different. The staff was welcoming and helpful. The location is excellent and the house is well furnished and kept up. Our room was very comfortable. Can't wait to go back!

Our room was beautiful..we poked around and found the other rooms were just as lovely. I loved the place so much I didn't want to go sightseeing. I could have spent the whole time inside. The breakfasts were delicous and beautifully plated. The owners were amazing, gracious and lovely to visit with...they made you feel special. I seriously will be back just to stay there again. Everything was original and not gutted like most B&B....you know, the outside looks old and the inside is modern. You must stay here!! Denise DeCarlo-Los Angeles California

With a B & B you want more than a place to just stay. You expect a well run, clean Inn. It is the extras that make it special. The White House has it all. Excellent location in a fabulous neighborhood for early morning walks; unbelievable breakfast that makes lunch unnecessary; and an owner with a personality. Also, the price must be a mistake as it is so reasonable.

Jack and I celebrated our wedding weekend at the Portland's White House and Lanning and Teresa made this an unforgettable experience for us and our guests. The food was fabulous and the rooms were exceptional. Everyone felt like they were at home as Lanning was so welcoming. Beautiful house - perfect place for a wedding or any special event. I could go on and on but everyone should check it out for themselves - exceptional service - marvelous food.!

Portland's White House is an incredible place. The imposing exterior is just the beginning. The inside is filled with amazing antiques that somehow all fit to for a comfortable, luxurious experience. Our reoom was very clean and nicely furnished, very comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. We plan to be back!

My wife and I visited the B&B on our way to the Oregon coast. It was a great spot to get the flavor of Portland. The location allowed us to easly access to Protland Metro to explore downtown. The cookies in our room upon arrival were delighful. Breakfast was also wonderful. All in all a great place to stay and we will visit again.

My wife arrived on our first visit to Oregon, the same week that the management staff was undergoing significant upheval. We wouldn't have been able to tell except that the new manager told us so. The rooms are wonderful, and the entire B7B is like walking through a museum of ancient antiquities. The owner, a renowned Restauranteur, prepared a superb breakfast for us on our last dat. This was a truly memorable stay.

PDX's White House is beautiful. The staff was wonderful. Breakfast was tasty. All B&Bs take on the feel the house, the staff, and location. The White House is no exception. The house has a classical look from the outside, Victorian charm and beauty on the inside, and the overall feel of Portland about it. It was the PDX feel that I found to be slightly unexpected, but also quite endearing and honest. The neighborhood is wonderful for walking or driving - TONS of fun old homes. PWH is close to plenty of dining and nightlife. We, however, preferred our room to the nightlife. Lots of fun and a good get away from the small-town life. :)

My wife and I had never stayed at a Bed and Breakfast and were very impressed. The Portland White House will be a hard act to follow. The staff was friendly, helpful and professional. The breakfast was "incredible" served with all of trappings of a fine restaurant and "oh" did I mention the house "spectacular". We felt like we were aristocrats staying in a stately mansion at the turn of the century. This will be our spot when traveling to Portland for future visits.....we're hook on B & B's.

Had a wonderful surprise with our two night stay at the "White House." Lanning is not only the owner, but also chef extraordinaire and supreme barista! We loved the breakfasts and the special coffees he made for my partner. He has a way of making everyone feel special, even the quiet reclusive types such as us who don't frequent B&Bs often. Loved the historic neighborhood, the access to Broadway St shops and restaurants, access to the city and to Vancouver Washington. We won't be staying anywhere else next time we are in Portland. The White House was the perfect start to our visit to Oregon and drive down the Oregon coast to California. The location allowed easy access to all parts of downtown via the Tri Met. We had dinner a Mamma Mia's which, because of the service, was excellent. Breakfast at the White House was also memorable. We would recommend this experience to anyone, especially the out of this world cookies provided on arrival. Bravo Lannis!

Wow, what a fantastic place, the value and service are truly outstanding. We stay one night at the Portland White House. It was our first night as Husband and Wife. They made sure the reservations were clear, they followed up with instructions about our Late Check in. It was easy to find. We needed an early check out so we could catch out flight to Kauai, they prepared a full Hot! breakfast for us to go. The food was outstanding. I would Highly! recommend anyone who is looking for a great bed and breakfast in Portland, it is a must to stay at the Portland White House. On a side note, I almost never ever give full stars on a survey, but I could not help but give these folks and their beautiful Bed and Breakfast a full rating.

We're not a big fan of B&B's, but in Nov. we wanted to spend a week in Portland and didn't want to pay the outlandish parking fees downtown, and hassle with the in and out of that type of parking, so I looked into various other options. We had a perfect visit for that trip, and just stayed another 2 nights in the same room, the Chauffer's quarters. It's a lovely room, my only complaint is the bathroom fan! I mentioned this when we checked out the first time, and it doesn't seem any better. It's on the bathroom light switch, so any time you're putting make up on, or brushing your teeth, it drones on so loudly it's just awful. And since part of the the charm of these lovely old rooms is the vintage baths, forget about enjoying a romantic soak in the tub with wine, we had to bring a bedside lamp into the bathroom to hear ourselves think. We'll definately stay again, Teresa the gracious hostess is a doll, but maybe we have to bring our own "bathroom lamp!" The food is fantastic, wish it was served till 10 am. I would recommend this charming and beautiful B&B to anyone who enjoys the finer things in life. The neighborhood is fantastic too, a must see for anyone browsing Portland.

If you are looking for the perfect intimate wedding venue, or just a romantic night or weekend away, look no further!! From the first meeting with owner Lanning, we were treated like distinguished guests and old friends. He made every effort to ensure our comfort and spent almost an hour with us discussing options for our event and touring us through his absolutely gorgeous Bed and Breakfast. We fell in love with the beauty and grandeur of the home, it's furnishings and the elegant and luxurious guest rooms. Our wedding day was in two words, ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!!! Everything looked stunning. Our guests checked in and were extremely impressed with their rooms and with the courtesy and attention they received from Lanning and the staff. The bottom of the staircase was the perfect space for our ceremony, and our photographer said it was perfect for pictures. After the ceremony, the staff again was extremely helpful in quickly serving our guests drinks and several different delicious hor d'oeuvres. The reception was beyond delicious with a gorgeous presentation and oh so gourmet and scrumptious!! Also for the toast, the champagne Lanning served was top notch. The ballroom space was perfect for dinner, and after the cake in the dining room, the ballroom became the perfect space for dancing and celebrating! At the end of the night we retired to our GORGEOUS and luxurious guest room, enjoyed the jacuzzi and had the best night's sleep in the super comfortable king sized canopy bed. Breakfast the next morning was right on time and was once again, beyond delicious! I could go on and on, but bottom line is our wedding day was exactly as we had hoped it would be, went completely smoothly without a hitch and will forever be remembered as PERFECT. We owe so much to Lanning for his making our day such a huge success. And we have decided to come back to the White House at least once a year!

Beautiful B&B with an excellent location near the west side of Portland. Great staff, welcoming atmosphere, and top-tier staff. The only complaint was the Wi-Fi was sporadic in the Canopy room. Other than that it was a great stay and we will come back again.

The White House was beautifully decorated for the Christmas holidays, and perfect for people who love historic homes. They upgraded our room to the Rose room as it was available, which was very comfortable with lots of space. The cookies on arrival were delicious and just what we needed around tea time. The fresh squeezed juice, eggs benedict, fresh fruit, and pastries the next morning were perfect too. The neighborhood is close to many things, and we suggest going for a morning walk to see the other houses in the area and visit the sculptures of Beverly Cleary's book characters in nearby Grant Park. This is a great idea for a weekend getaway -- we appreciated that it allowed booking for one night, easy street parking, and a reasonable price for an amazing experience.

The staff are so warm and friendly. The house is magnificent. Our room was cozy and comfortable. And to top it off, bedtime cookies were delivered to our door. I think our new hobby will be to stay at least once in every room over the next few years. We have stayed here twice and each time was perfect.

We were in town for work for two days. Very relaxing to stay here - super fun. My only criticism might be the weak coffee and high-carb breakfast. I recognize that I eat on the fringe of the protein-fat-caffeine spectrum. Paleo with coffee! All in all a great place and WE WILL BE BACK!

My wife and I and another couple recently spent four nights at Portland's White House B&B. Wow. We've B&Bed in Europe, the UK and the United States, and the White House is right up there with the best. The Innkeeper, Teresa, and her staff were all you could want. Pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. The house is beautifully restored. The rooms are spacious. The beds and cookies at night are a slice of paradise. Did I mention the cookies? And Teresa knows her way around a kitchen. Breakfast with a capital B. The house is in a great neighborhood and the location is easy to get around in. Oh, and the cookies.... Would I stay there again? Is Salem the capitol? Have you tried the cookies? I would live there if I could. ...and I will stay there again. Chas Zehner

We stayed here because the yelp reviews said how "amazing" the food was. Also their web-site said they had an espresso machine. First let me say how beautiful this place is!!!! It's breath taking. the room was clean and the cookies you get in your room were also amazing!!! Right when you get there the lady asks you what time you want to eat breakfast?? (I've been to many B&B's and they serve you when ever you wake up) So then we had to set an alarm because we were out late and we picked the latest time which is 9!! (Not very accommodating for $200 a night plus tax) We couldn't wait to eat breakfast since all the reviews were so good. We are vegetarian (another reason we chose this place) since it says on there web-site ALL the breakfasts were vegetarian (not the case). Breakfast #1 First course was a small stale store bought croissant then the main course was a poorly made waffle with a crap load of whip cream and fruit on top. So we barley ate our food and then when I asked for an espresso they said "oh we don't have that." Breakfast #2 a little better with fresh fruit to start then the main course was English muffins with eggs and salsa and mushrooms on top with not cooked all the way shredded potatoes. All in all don't come here for the food just come here for the amazing location and beautiful rooms with nice beds. Also our room had 6 shower head which is another reason to charge so much but only about 4 1/2 of the heads worked. But that wasn't a big deal. Enjoy and try to go when its cheaper so you get your moneys worth.

We stayed for two nights in this lovely B&B. Lanning and his staff were extremely gracious. We checked into the balcony room which has a private balcony overlooking the fountain. Breakfast was fabulous (they even share the recipes). Our room was very comfortable, the bathroom modern and the antique furnishings were beautiful. Each evening there were the most delicious cookies waiting for us in our room. We will be staying here again the next time we are in Portland! Jon & Deb

I was directed to the Portland White House by my friend who was getting married. I chose the canopy room as a splurge. It was grand and luxurious yet comfortable. My favorite parts of the PWH experience were walking in the neighborhood to Broadway and beyond, the ambiance of the historical mansion and most notably, the four breakfasts I savored. Portland's White House truly goes above and beyond when it comes to artistic and culinary expression. The food and presentation of the meals will not be soon forgotten.

We stayed 3 nights at Portland's White House. We stayed in the Carolina Room which was a little small and without a desk, but it was beautiful with an extremely comfortable bed and pillows! The hosts are all very friendly. We got there three hours before check in and were planning on leaving our suitcases and going to grab lunch. But a banquet was just finishing up, and Kim asked us if she could put some plates together for us for lunch on the patio. What a great surprise! Yummy! The breakfasts were amazing! We were always so full that we never ate again until after 6 pm. There was an amazing quiche, crepes covered with fresh berries and wonderful baked eggs with canadian bacon and a tomatillo sauce, served on top of hash browns. Not to mention the scones and muffins. I had never had blueberries and raspberries on top of avacado - it was delicious. You are asked if you want any meat that may be served, so if you're vegetarian, it's not a problem. This B & B is 15 blocks from the TriMet light rail. You can catch the TriMet right at the airport and walk or there is a number 70 bus on Multnomah that would get you to within a few blocks of the B & B. A full day pass using all mass transit is $5.00 and you just get it at a machine in front of any of the TriMet stops. A great place to start off our time in Oregon!

I am so grateful that I stayed at the Whte House on my recent trip to Portland. I was in town for a conference and my collegues who stayed at hotels were jealous! I felt pampered every day - the breakfasts were outstanding. After the first day, I allowed myself 15 extra minutes for breakfast each morning just so I could take it slow and enjoy. It was so easy to unwind in the evenings on the back patio and enjoy the scrumptious homemade cookies left each night in my room. Lanning was gracious and helpful with all my needs - from lost luggage at the airport to restaurant reccommendations. I highly reccommend.

When we arrived at the White House, our jaws dropped because it is that beautiful from the outside. The inside was amazing as well. Clean, classy, but friendly. Just as a bnb should be. Breakfast was outstanding and the cookies that were left in our room each day were out of this world. Sometimes i wanted to ask a question and had difficulty finding someone who works there, but when I found them they were extremely helpful. I only wish we could have stayed longer!

We usually avoid B&B's because (a) my husband is tall and they normally only have rooms with queen beds and (b) I'm a light sleeper and historic homes usually have thin walls and creaky stairs, and I don't want to hear the breakfast prep early in the morning. Portland's White House is beautifully and solidly built, with 4 rooms that have king size beds, the most elegant and delicious breakfasts, and Lanning , Kim and Steve are skilled, fun, and gracious. Plus, it's in a beautiful neighborhood that was wonderful for walking. The room was comfortable, quiet, beautiful, and had every amenity we like. I plan to return.

My fiance and I enjoyed our stay at Portland's White House tremendously. When we arrived Kim met us at the door and was extremely friendly. She informed us that the room we reserved was unavailable but that she had a better one at no extra cost. The cookies and chocolates that were left in the room were so delicious we thought about asking for a couple more. Kim was very helpful with any questions we had regarding where we wanted to go in Portland. The breakfast was out of this world, i have no words to describe how tasty it all was along with the hospitality. We will definetly be staying there again and for a longer period of time. Thanks again! Tanya & Amber, New Westminster, BC

You will be floored by the elegance of this beautiful place. I have had the privilege to stay at many world class hotels, and this is a world class B abd B. rooms are gorgeous, and we were upgraded to the Canopy Room, although i looked at other rooms, and all were amazing (maybe our hot tub is what made it an "upgrade", not sure. The breakfasts were substantial and delicious. There was a box of gourmet chocolates in the room at checkin and homemade cookies every afternoon. If there is one place to improve, the couple that runs this wonderful place (different from the effervescent, friendly owner), who clearly work hard, caused a small ding in the overall experience. While HE was fabulous, bending over backwards for our smallest request, SHE came with a huge Chip on her shoulders as if any request ( ice?) was putting her out on an already busy day. We felt like scolded children. At check out she tackily reminded me that we had been upgraded, something we had not requested, as if she had done us a huge favor. There are always difficult personalities, and HER'S is one of those that should probably not be running a B and B, or perhaps simply not be the one to deal with guests. We highly recommend this place in general, but we did leave on a slightlt sour note, after a wonderful 2 days of seeing friends and family in Portland.

The property was everything and more that I had read about both on line and in the Unique Inns booklet. Our room was furnished nicely and well appointed. Our favorite part of our stay was breakfast and the personal attention each guest received.!!! Being from Florida, my husband and I were thrilled at the delicious fresh food - everything from the delicious berries to the savory egg dishes! We stayed for three fabulous nights and would return again as we know that a return trip to Oregon is in our future! We spent 14 days traveling the state and still did not see all of the beauty that it has to offer.

I was down in Portland on business, but my treat to myself was to stay at the White House B&B... my first time and boy, was it incredible! I HIGHLY recommend staying there and should I go back to Portland – whether for business or pleasure, there is no question that I will definitely stay there again. Lanning, the owner, truly knows how to provide excellence in service. Steve and Kim, the Managers, were most accommodating and made you feel so welcomed. It was the little details that made it so enjoyable. They served full breakfasts that were out of this world - absolutely delicious and very creative! I especially enjoyed the daily home-baked cookies and decadent chocolates left in the room - a real treat to come home to... and, that is precisely how I felt... like it was my home. The house, itself, is lovingly appointed with all kinds of interesting artifacts and things to look at, not to mention it is situated in one of the highly sought-after areas of Portland. (The homes in the area are lovely older mansions, all exceptionally well kept up.) The neighborhood is primarily residential, yet very convenient to shopping and exploring Portland. The White House is truly a fabulous place to stay and play. - Pam Taylor, Seattle, WA

We new wife and I spent our honeymoon in the Canopy room. The service was great from the moment of check-in until we departed after breakfast. The breakfast was a large portion and was served quickly and tasted and looked as thoguh it was from a 5 star restaurant with a home cooked feel. The room was beautiful, and well decorated. The bathroom had a hint of a musty smell, which I attribute to the age of the building itself. Other than that, We would definitely stay at the Portland White House again.

Wow!!!!! This bed and breakfast was outstanding. The interior of the home is magnificent with an extensive collection of china and art work. The owners and innkeepers could not have been nicer or more generous with their time. Very comfortable and accommodating. I have traveled extensively and the White House is really a stand out. Will look back on my stay fondly and if I ever return to Portland I will surely stay again.

From the first greeting and introduction to the property, to the farewell hugs, I felt right at home in this elegant 1910 mansion. I highly recommend Portland's White House to anyone staying in the area who wants a "home-away-from-home" in a sublimely elegant setting.

An unexpected turn of events in our travel plans brought us to this little gem of a B&B and I am thrilled about it! Gorgeous, Victorian-style house in a really cool area of town, just minutes from tons of restaurants and bars. We were warmly greeted by Kim who showed us to our room and told us a little bit about the house. The room was a little bit smaller than what we are used to staying in, but it was so charming, the size of the room became easy to overlook. Homemade sweets awaited us nightly, and they were Mmmmmmm, Mmmmmmm good! We loved having breakfast each morning as well. I'm very picky when it comes to food, so when I say that these breakfasts were outstanding, that is a HUGE compliment. Absolutely delish!! The personalized service we got from Kim, Steve and Lanning was exceptional. I would definitely stay here again if we are in the Portland area and will recommend it to my friends. Just the perfect way to finish up our vacation.

The White House is full of period piece furniture and bric-a-brac which is definitely not our style but for a short stay it added interest to the B&B. Our hosts were friendly and helpful and the room clean and comfortable. The highlight of the experience was the breakfast of perfectly cooked eggs benny. Everyone does eggs benny now but these were very special. You can't go wrong staying at the White House.

Great stay, great location-a quiet neighborhood in walking distance to public transport and many shops, restaurants, and Grant Park. Great innkeepers- their attention to detail, friendly demeanor and delicious breakfasts and cookies in the room. Great rooms- comfortable beds, clawfoot tubs, wifi. Our stay definitely exceeded our expectations. Thank you to Lanning, Kim and Steve. You helped make the trip a memorable one.

Our visit to the Portland White House B & B was to celebrate our anniversary. We met each other in Portland while I was going to school. My husband lived in a house just a few blocks away from there, so it was fun to explore the neighborhood again. We really enjoyed the wonderful gormet breakfasts. We were there for 4 nights and enjoyed something different for breakfast every morning. We stayed in the rose room which was very comfortable. I loved the king sized, four post bed with the nice feather matress pad. The homemade cookies as well as the chocolates were special treats. The house is beautifully decorated. We enjoyed looking at all the antiques in the dining room, living room and game room. Thank you Kim and Steve for all your hard work. It was really a very delightful place to stay.

Our 3-night stay in the Canopy Room was wonderful. Kim and Steve (the managers) are wonderful hosts. They made us feel as if we were already close friends. The rooms were very clean, the food that Kim & Steve prepared was superb, and the entire B&B was a wonderful experience. They are both very gay friendly, so they made us feel at home. Our only two suggestions that would have made our stay better: 1. the WiFi signals in at least three of the upstairs rooms was terrible or non-existent. Two other guests told me that they also had to face a certain direction, go into the bathroom, or into the hallway to connect. This is an issue that needs to be addressed immediately to ensure that all rooms have a very strong signal. 2. The A/C vents need to have plastic or metal deflectors installed. The air blew directly on our faces all night. Other than those two issues, the PWH was one of the best places we've stayed at in years. Kim & Steve are definitely the best, friendliest, and caring managers we've ever met. I would highly recommend PWH. David

Portland's White House is a heavenly place that offers all the luxuries of the rich and famous.......(ok maybe not all, but walking the grand staircase was a special treat and the dining was with all the elloquence of luxury. The hosts were fantastic, accomodating, and take pride in their work. It was a joy and extremely reasonable.

We recently stayed two nights at Portland's White House. Do the pictures of this place look great? The real life experience is better than the fabulous pictures. The property and furnishings are first class. The service and hospitality as well as the food were excellent. The prices are a little high but you definitely get your moneys worth. I will be a repeat visitor.

It was our first visit to Portland and what better place than the White House for an intimate and elegant bed and breakfast experience? It's in a quiet and safe residential district close to Broadway, but also easy access to Downtown, the Japanese and Rhododendron Gardens, and the airport. Each morning was started by uniquely delicious breakfast and great conversation with fellow guests. For us, a memorable and comfortable stay. Mike & Diane McCarty Madison, WI

Beautiful rooms and grounds, friendly staff (just enough attention, just enough privacy), and amazing food. The complimentary newspaper and home-made cookies in the room were a sweet touch. Loved the claw foot bathtub and all the antiques!

We stayed for 3 nights as part of a wedding held on site. The service was fabulous, the breakfasts will put you in a food coma (in a good way!). The rooms are beautiful. Prescott, the dog, stole my daughter's heart. All in all, this is a gem in the heart of Portland. If you want a quiet weekend, or a beautiful wedding site, I can't recommend The White House enough. There should be a 10 star rating! Love you Kim & Lanning! (can I get the recipe for that coffee & Kim's "secret" hot chocolate that she concocted for my daughter? :)

Four of us were traveling north from Napa along the west coast of Oregon. We decided to find a special bed and breakfast in Portland and discovered the White House. The hospitality we received from Lanning (the Owner) and Steve and Kim (Inn Keepers) was extraordinary. The House is a rare period mansion with beautiful Meissen porcelain and antique furniture. The history lesson and good humour of Lanning made our stay very memorable. Steve and Kim were wonderful hosts and the breakfast was gourmet. Probably the most interesting B&B we've ever seen.

My husband, Wilbur, and I just returned from our stay at Portland's White House. It was absolutely an outstanding experience in every way. The house is gorgeous and elegant. The service is great. It was so wonderful to go downstairs in the morning and eat the delicious breakfast in the dining room. Kim and Steve Clardy are the perfect hosts! They are welcoming, helpful, caring, and very concerned with making your stay with them delightful. They are always happy and glad to see you. We hope to go back to Portland and stay at this fabulous place in the future. Neal Blackman

My partner and I had a great experience at The Portland White House. My partner happen to get sick with a bad cold the second night we stayed. The staff was very concerned and took the time to provide hot tea and offered to do anything else that they could do. Very caring atmosphere as well as relaxing. We will be back and may plan our 5 year celebration of renewing our vows.

Kim & Steve truly have the gift of hospitality! From the moment we arrived, they met our every need! From warm baked cookies in the afternoon, to fabulous breakfasts (Steve - the French Toast was still my favorite!), to providing a delightful setting for friends and family to gather in the evenings, to providing extra feather pillows...we couldn't have asked for more!

The Portland White House B&B was a great place for a romantic getaway weekend. Delicious cookies and delightful innkeepers made us feel at home, but the house also has very beautiful, eclectic antique decor and a grand layout. Especially charmed by the murals of the Potomac in the front hall. Hope to be back!

We stayed in the balcony room. It was great we were really excited about the six headed shower but the pressure was very low and two of the heads just dripped. When another room used their shower while we used ours all the shower heads turned into a drizzel. The food was great. About a three block walk to the main road there re two coffee chops. One on the corner and the other to the left we went to the one to the left the coffee prices we low the coffee was great and it was not as crowded as the other one. The cookies and truffles they give you at the B&B are a very tasty touch to a very nice place to stay.

A grand and historic house in a neighborhood of lovely old homes. The food was great. A huge breakfast at a shared table in a big dining room, and cookies and chocolates in the room. An easy walk to a commercial district, or an easy drive to downtown. A cozy and charming inn, much better than a sterile hotel. We enjoyed our stay and would come back.

Our room was well appointed, and featured white terry robes and great cookies and chocolates. The bed was comfortable, with nice linens and pillows. The bathroom was small but well done, so it all worked. The building itself is quite spectacular, as can be seen from the pictures. The neighborhood is quiet, with a number of restaurants within walking distance. Even though it was a bit damp, we walked to a good Thai place for dinner. We visited in November, so we expected rain. Breakfast consisted of individual Dutch Baby pancakes, plus bacon. Since we don't eat bacon, the meal seemed delicious but scant. Maybe we're just big eaters, but we would have enjoyed some fruit or additional offerings in place of the meat. Each party chooses the time they will come down to breakfast and notes it on the board in the entry. Since most of us elected 8:30 (breakfast is served until 9), a number of strangers sat down at a single table for breakfast. We eventually got a conversation going, but it was a bit uncomfortable. Children are allowed, and we had a couple of charming but noisy little ones staying next door. If you wake easily, bring a white noise generator. There might have been one in the room, but we missed it. The innkeepers are a mixed pair. Our hostess seemed charming, but our host was a bit less gracious, and he's the one with whom we had the most contact. For instance, while she invited everyone to sit wherever they wanted, he came in and rearranged folks to accomodate later parties. Similarly, his presentation about their procedures made us feel awkward. When I asked a question without having listened to his whole spiel, I was asked to wait. This B&B was nice, but we'll probably try someplace else when we next come to Portland.

Loved it, it's worth visiting Portland just to stay there. Terrific and unusual breakfast, great little extras like homemade cookies and Moonstruck chocolates, all in a setting that feels like something out of the Roaring Twenties that looks as great as the photos.

Portland's White House has our complete endorsment. We had a wonderful stay. The staff was courteous and helpfull and greeted us with homemade cookies upon our arrival. We asked for a dinner recommendation and had one of the best meals of our trip only blocks from the White House and for around 40 dollars for 2! We were allowed to explore the building and use the livingroom to read and relax. The bedroom was nothing short of amazing with a chandelier over our bed and antiques, pottery, stained glass were only a few things that adorned the home. Our room was quiet so we rested well. The television provided had full cable service. Breakfast in the morning was as described, a gourmet treat of fresh orange juice, great coffee, a bowl of fresh fruit and an egg fritatta. Every effort was made to be sure the guest were comfortable and happy. We have stayed at many large chain hotels including the Ritz Carlton and the JW Marriott. There is much to say about those hotels but the customer service and personal attention at the White House beats them all! Thanks White House...we'll be back!

Room (Baron's suite) was amazing; especially the oatmeal-chocolate-chip cookies and moonstruck chocolates next to the enormous bed. Also, the breakfast (crepes with chicken apple sausage) was delicious and plentiful. I would stay there again FOR SURE.

Wonderful stay- we enjoyed the grandeur of the home, the dining room and appreciated the friendliness of the inn keepers. Gratuity is not included, so if budgeting, keep in mind an additional 'tip' although it's not mandatory... however, once you stay, i think you'll agree that a tip is well deserved.

My wife and I just stayed here - we chose the "Blarney Room", one of the three rooms in the carriage house. This B&B is spotlessly clean and gorgeously appointed with antiques. The owners really, really care for the place and their guests. The location is great too, in a quiet, safe, historic neighborhood not far from the hot spots of NE Portland. Street parking is plentiful, the gourmet breakfast is truly outstanding - perhaps the best I've ever had in a B&B (and vegans take note: my wife is vegan, and I eat vegetarian, and we were very well taken care of) - and the super-friendly, super-chatty staff bent over backwards for us. Only quibbles: the wall between the Blarney Room and the Carolina Room is thin and we could hear our neighbors pretty clearly. Not much the owners can do about that, so bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper. Also, I'd recommend thicker curtains for our window, as the morning sun woke us up earlier than we wanted! Aside from that, I'd happily stay here again. It's amazingly well-priced for the luxury you get. I highly recommend this place if you are in Portland.

Beautiful building and fun owner/operators. Great breakfasts. We stayed three nights and felt that some simple things would make the stay much more enjoyable. After breakfast there was no access to tea or coffee or nibbles. Access to these things (self serve) 24 hours makes a big difference. Brandy or wine in the sitting room in the early evening would also help. These are things we have come to expect at other B&Bs in this price range. The decoration is over-the-top and not for everyone. Carpets, especially in the entry and on master staircase need cleaning.

My wife & I chose Oregon for our vacation this year and we were not disappointed. We stayed at some of the most wonderful places(Crater Lodge, Timberline and Columbia Gorge Hotel) but our favorite night was at the White House. Great accomodations, friendly host in Kim & Steve and the breakfast was "the best". You will be highly recommended. Joe & Sandra

Spent a weekend here - the owners are extremely hospitable and did everything to make our stay enjoyable; and we travelled with our 1 year old, so a bonus that a B&B allowed children. Rooms were welcoming, clean (loved the oatmeal cookies!) and the location was perfect, close to the train to downtown, but also easy to walk everywhere and bars/restaurants/shops within a few blocks. The breakfasts were to die for - the best food we've had - you can't beat it!

We arrived in Portland during our 2 week honeymoon road trip and feel in love with the White House! Lanning was amazing, gave us a complimentary upgrade so we had a beautiful king size bedroom with immaculate bathroom and fresh cookies upon arrival. These cookies are amazing! He gave us extras when we left and I want the recipe! We only stayed one night but it was a heavenly night's sleep and we awoke to a wonderful full breakfast served! The food was one of the best breakfast's we'eve ever had! Cheese blintzes with fresh local berries, blueberry muffins and fresh, hot coffee...I HIGHLY recommend the White House for a romantic stay away from home! We will definitely be back! --Happy Honeymooners

The interior spaces of the of the PWH are comfortable, although ornate. We much preferred the cozier, more cheerful Blarney room over the Balcony room, although the space was extremely small and crowded with furniture. The reservation form stated that vegeterian breakfasts were served and vegan choices could be provided. I indicate a vegan preference, but I was served eggs and meat or fish daily. I am used to a simpler, healthier breakfast, but my husband thoroughly enjoyed it. Our primary reason for choosing the PWH was its location which most convenient for our purposes.

We took over Portland's White House for a three-day weekend to celebrate our wedding. We filled all the rooms and had at least 16 for breakfast every morning. We had our ceremony in the flower-filled courtyard, and enjoyed the buffet lunch at tables they set up outside, too. The list of things that went well that weekend is very long! Our guests loved their rooms, and talked about the chocolate chip cookies that they enjoyed every day. The food at the buffet for the wedding was exactly what we'd ordered, and was delicious, fresh and beautiful. We had outstanding breakfasts every morning (we stayed for three nights). Adults, kids and teenagers all loved the selection and the flavors. The owner, Lanning, was a perfect wedding organizer - he kept an eye on every detail to make sure it went perfectly. And it did! Kim and Steve kept everything running well, and our families have all commented on how much they enjoyed the weekend. We can't wait to go back and celebrate our first anniversary with a stay at this amazing place - right in the heart of a beautiful neighborhood in Portland! Highly, highly recommend it.

Our stay at the White House was too short, only 2 days. I would highly recommend this B & B. The owners made you feel like royality, they were very friendly and welcoming. The property and all the landscaping was gorgeous, the bedrooms were fabulous and the food delicious, presentation of food beautiful. The staff went out of their way to make us feel comfortable, extremely helpful with all our questions and even offered to share their dinner with us one night after we had had a long day of sightseeing, I'd say they they were very generous. The whole ambiance was wonderful and we really were sad to leave. Given the opportunity again we wouldn't hesitate to go back and stay longer.

We enjoyed our stay very much. It's a grand old home in a wonderful neighborhood and our room (The Chauffeur) was comfortable (and immaculate). The breakfast alone is worth a stay here. At the suggestion of the owner, we ended up spending a glorious day hiking around waterfalls. We would not have known about it otherwise. The only thing lacking was a box of Kleenex in the room, but I'm sure if I had asked for it, they would have delivered one immediately. Highly recommend.

This is the second time I've stayed here, with a few years intervening. It's strong suit is location; quiet and convenient NE. Other services are adequate. PWH is in a lovely, friendly, old neighborhood of Portland, with huge, beautiful trees, roses and rhododendrons lining the streets, so it's great for walking and being outside. Our room (the chauffeur's quarters) was old-world elegant and immaculate, cozy/somewhat small, with luxurious bedding and a beautiful bathroom. Food was served beautifully and very generously, with daily homemade cookies and chocolates a nice, welcoming extra. There's a charming parlor and living room with piano, games at tables, and comfortable sofas for relaxing. Our daughter and granddaughter live next door and were welcomed over for breakfast, and our granddaughter loved playing an African drum in the parlor. Lanning, the owner, and Kim and Steve, inn keepers, were all easy-going, gracious and professional hosts. I look forward to staying at PWH again when we visit our daughter in Portland.

Our second visit and it was even better than the first! Lovely rooms, great service, wonderful food, good company at breakfast and a very relaxed atmosphere. We'll be back soon.
5 on May 13, 2011
The room was right out of a turn of the century magazine. Other than a few modern items, the original owners from 1912 had just stepped out for awhile. Getting used to a taller bed was a small learning curve, but once there you didn't want to leave, even though you knew breakfast was going to be special. Not only does Lannning take pride in the house, but so do his caretakers. Kuddos all around for maintaing this slice of heaven!

The innkeepers were lovely and personable. They even upgraded us to a nicer room for no extra charge. We loved being immersed in the antique charm of this b&b, and the neighbourhood was a wonderful place to walk around. We were so happy we stumbled upon this place.

This is a beautiful facility. The Canopy Room had everything one could want including champagne, chocolats and cookies to greet us on arrival. The inkeepers were very friendly and accomodting. They made sure our stay was very comfortable. This B&B is located in a beautiful neighborhood in NE Portland. We look forward to staying at Portland's White House Again.

We were in Portland visiting relatives but wanted to ahve 1 night to ourselves since our anniversary fell during the stay. Upon arrival we were greeted by Kim who informed us that we were upgraded from the Rose room to Barons. I don't think there is a whole lot of difference to the room itself but the bathroom in Barons is much, much larger. My wife enjoyed soaking in the claw foot tub. The innkeepers gave us a great dinner suggestion in downtown Portland. Breakfast the next morning was terrific, including the elk sausage. Lots of towels in the bath along with comfy terry cloth robes. Two cookies were waiting in the room upon check-in and chocolates when we returned from dinner. A very elegant place.

The staff(better said friends) welcome you with open arms the minute you walk in the door and present the type of atmosphere in which you dont need to say word one and your every need is met with a smile. We certainly felt at home and would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone who is looking for that once in a lifetime unique getaway. We will be back! Thanks to all!

Perfect combination of sevice without being intrusive. Champagne, cookies, chocolates, soft music - very nicely done. The breakfast was oustanding - Quiche, sausage, fruit, muffin.

The room, the small touches (e.g. chocolates, cookies) were stellar. The service was amazing as well as the breakfast. We will absolutely be back here and recommend it to anyone!

The White house exceeded our high expectations. We have stayed at B&B's around the world and this experience was one of the tops. The rooms were great, the breakfasts a delight and the staff very helpful.

My wife and I live in Portland, but stayed at the White House for a night as a gift. It was beautiful and the staff was very friendly and sensitive to our gluten-free dining needs. Even though it was no more than 30 minutes from home, we felt like we were on vacation in another city.

Beautiful place, nice neighborhood, friendly staff, great breakfast, amazing cookies and decent chocolate complementary with room, overall great value. Stayed for two nights in the Rose room. My parents stayed in a nearby room and also enjoyed their stay? Hawley room?

We had such a great time staying at Portland's White House! We loved the historic decor and our room was everything we could hope for. Amazing staff, amazing food and the perfect location. Would definitely stay there again and will recommend our friends to if they're ever in the area. Thanks for making our vacation great!

This property is lovely and in a wonderful neighborhood within walking distance of shops and restaurants. Everyone was so friendly and went out of their way to make me feel comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and they were very kind and accommodating regarding my dietary restrictions. I will definitely stay here again.

My husband and I just returned from a short trip to Portland and we cannot say enough positive things about this wonderful B&B. It is both elegant and cozy. It is filled with antiques but manages to not feel overly precious. There are plenty of modern amenities. Also, the breakfasts are delicious. And, you cannot complain about the scrumptious homemade cookies that are in your room every day and the chocolate truffles. The staff is amazing and you feel very well taken of. The inn is located in the Irvington neighborhood which is lovely and walking friendly. There were lots of shops and restaurants on NE Broadway just a couple of blocks away. And, as other reviewers have mentioned, it is a quick drive to downtown Portland. I highly recommend this B&B.

Excellant room, close to several dining options, within walking distance, romatic setting to be close to my wife. Best time we have had just spending time together. Would love to have the oppurtunity to do this again some time, thank you very much for the experience.

Portland’s White House is a B&B mansion filled with ambience and antiques fit for the cover of any magazine. Our party of eight from the U.S. and Canada was delighted with its warm accommodations - soft, cozy four-poster beds, luxurious bathrooms, afternoon cookies and dark chocolates, cheerful lounging areas, and delicious gourmet breakfasts. Our host, Lanning Blanks, was caring, attentive and welcoming. He saw to our every need including food allergy alternative meals; help with minor ailments, transportation requests and dining recommendations. We all agreed; if you wish to be spoiled, Portland’s White House is the perfect get-away choice.

A stately mansion filled with ceramic treasures makes for a wonderful B&B. The service was excellent, the breakfasts (we had four) interesting and delicious (one exception, the sausage was not great). The only fault we saw was the property maintenance could be improved (e.g., outside painting). Such maintenance issues had no effect on our stay.

The White House is a beautiful mansion filled with antiques and art. The best chocolate chip cookie and Moonstruck chocolates awaited us on check-in. The bed was incredibly comfortable. Breakfasts were fabulous and Lanning is a generous and entertaining host!

Located in the convenient Northeast section of the city, in a historic neighborhood, Portland's White House offers classic, yet cozy, comforts at a very reasonable price. Fresh baked cookies and truffles welcomed us. Then we were treated to an outstanding breakfast in the morning. Our room was spacious, the bed comfortable. We'll definitely return.

Not much to report. Booked a room for a romantic getaway, and we were given a free upgrade to the biggest room. The house is truly amazing, the room even better. We loved the big bathtub and HUGE soft bed. We had cookies and chocolate waiting for us and we were able to walk a few blocks to a restaurant for dinner. There was a big party in the banquet room, and we hardly noticed. Our evening wasn't interrupted or affected at all, even with party guests enjoying themselves and coming and going. Breakfast was good, not great. We didn't stay here for the food, we came for the incredible room and house. We left very very happy. Great stay, great bed and breakfast. I will go again.

As far as food, we had a southern-style huevos rancheros. It was delicious, healthy, and had a beautiful presentation; but traveling from Texas, we had hoped for something less familiar, such as some outstanding pancakes, french toast, or other baked good. We were only able to stay one night, so obviously had we stayed longer our taste buds might have been satisfied. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Portland.

The White House was the perfect intimate wedding place. The service and atmosphere was beyond our expectations and we would recommend it to anyone wanting a small, private getaway.

Thanksgiving with family in P-town, found the White House nearby. What a delightful B&B - stayed in the cozy Carolina room - very comfortable accommodations. All antique furnishings. Colors and art in this home - beautifully done, warm and inviting. Incredible staff, service was perfect and the breakfasts are truly to die for.

My husband and I are native Portlanders, and we just wanted to stay somewhere unique and local for our anniversary. This mansion is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. Large enough to be impressive and interesting...small enough to feel personal and welcoming. Gorgeous antiques throughout. Lanning was on vacation, so we didn't get to meet him, but he left us in excellent, capable hands. All staff were courteous and attentive. A perfectly pleasant experience!

We had a very nice stay at the White House. The decor was "old world" and we enjoyed the ambiance and style. The breakfasts were very well done, delicious. I enjoyed talking with other guests at the family-style breakfast table. The location is bit far from downtown but in an old neighborhood that is quiet - great walking! I will return when in Portland again.

Portland's White House is located in a very lovely quiet neighborhood within walking distance of many cool pubs, restaurants, and shops. We stayed in the Balcony Room. The bed was plush and luxurious and the room was equipped with a flat screen TV, an ipod dock, and lots of informative local magazines. The room was quite small and the balcony itself was tiny. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the cookies and chocolates awaiting us in our room. The six-head shower had very low water pressure, which took the novelty out of the experience. Our breakfast of stuffed french toast was delicious but we were hoping for more food. We could hear the cooks' conversations while we ate and the topic was less than savory. This B&B is by no means upscale, but for a fun and casual stay in Portland it's not bad.

I usually stay by myself, traveling on business. I feel comfortable here solo and would also feel very comfortable staying here with my wife; it's welcoming and romantic without making solo travelers feel awkward. The breakfasts are sensational; I usually have oatmeal and cottage cheese for breakfast but I throw the calorie counter out and go all out here.

Everything about this Bed & Breakfast was what I had hoped for, I had reserved a room as a gift and was not disappointed. The house is gorgeous, historic and elegant, and the service was excellent throughout our stay. I had not known what to expect as far as what we would be served for breakfast, but it did not disappoint. It truly was a gourmet breakfast, I couldn't ask for anything more. Without a doubt, I will be recommending the Portland White House to family and friends.

Stayed in the Balcony room for three nights, the one just above the front door. Pluses: Great looking building, kept reasonably well, in a really nice neighborhood. Nice view and charming decor. The sheets were nice but the feather mattress pad had pointy feather tails sticking out. Beautiful shared areas with a grand piano. Minuses: The room was very small, there wasn't a desk and one had to sit on the bed, since the side chairs were small pushed against the corners between other pieces of furniture. The air system was very loud and impossible to turn off. Made it very hard to have a good night sleep. The bathroom was small with no room for toiletries. We had to put our things on top of the toilet tank, which was a drag because every second flush, the float got stuck and we had to remove the tank lid to unhook it to get it to fill and flush the next time. The toilet got plugged very easily. The multi-head shower had not even enough pressure for one head. We had everything shut down just to get a dribble of water. The TV was the worst we've ever seen and the remote control didn't work. The breakfast was repetitive and average at best. The home baking was good however but the service itself was mediocre. We heard the expression "we're trying to keep our food costs down" about 5 times one morning. All the gay guys we know are very friendly and particular about the details, these two were an odd ball, one of them was very rude and the other, who wore 10 year old T-shirts could not ever remember who wanted coffee and who wanted tea. Overall, we were not impressed with our stay there, we met some nice people and also some rude ones, the place is charming but the hosts are not. Be my guest, try it at your own risk and hopefully you'll have a better experience than ours. Oh and by the way, don't go in winter, the balcony doors leak a lot and you'll very likely be really cold!

Your jaw will first hit the floor when your eyes gander at every nook and cranny in this beautiful 100 year- old former timber baron mansion. The owner and staff who greet you, and then are there to take care of every detail and need you might have are just world-class. We were treated to warm fires, scrumptous gourmet meals, fresh baked snacks, and every possible creature comfort you would dream of when our party of 20 was there for three day/ two night stay and wedding ceremony. Then the accommodations are both private, and yet you feel very together with everyone there in the same common areas for socializing an dining, and rooms with huge king beds that you could sleep 20 years in and never know you missed a day, large, private baths with every room annointed in an eclectic mix of 18th, and 19th century art, pottery, and fixutures. You really feel like you are stepping back into time, and are of some royal lineage when you are there. Lanning was such a great caretaker of all of us, and especially doted on our children and made them feel welcome in his White House. The kids loved the downstairs ballroom, stripped of breakable heirloom pieces where they could play the piano, make a little noise, and have open space to be kids in. We had a wonderful time getting to meet our new in-laws, and the cozy space with so much to keep your eyes roaming all over during your stay will simply astound you. It was a great place to hold our small ( 20 person) family wedding where we all got to stay and be together for the long weekend. Truely memorable place and stay we had this weekend. Don't miss a chance to stay here when you are in Portland.

Whilst this was quite possibly one of the most beautiful B&Bs I’ve ever stayed in there were some serious problems. The room was unbearably hot and I was told the A/C was ‘turned off for the year’. We had to sleep with all the windows open to the street and an unimaginably filthy fan blowing the whole night. The breakfast was merely average and was not read when they said it would be. One excellent thing was there were no scents anywhere to trouble me; no fabric softener or dryer sheets, no room deodorizers, no plug-in air fresheners. It was the first B&B I could actually sleep at without having to take a handful of allergy meds while there. It’s a shame I couldn’t sleep because of the heat. That said; the B&B is magnificently beautiful with more antiques than the Antiques Roadshow. It’s perfectly situated within a nice neighborhood in Portland within a few minutes drive or walk from just about everything. While I may never stay there again anyone wishing to stay there when the heat or A/C is running will not be disappointed.

If you think that B&Bs are just about fussy decor and furnishings that are more attique than antique, go directly to Portland's White House. From the genuine antiques and original artwork to the original Tiffany stained glass windows, this amazing mansion combines charm and comfort with elegance and hospitality. Great location in a beautiful residential neighborhood too.

We stayed 3 nights at this bed and breakfast in late August of '07. It is just as beautiful as the website shows. Lanning is very kind and attentive as is his staff. Lanning even made up a plate of desserts for my family (who were not guests) when he saw we were making a road trip. The rooms are papmering plus! Thankfully I have family in Portland so I get to re visit this wonderful place. Kitty and Jack

Lanning and his White House is a fantasy come true. In a word, "Decadent." Lanning answers questions from his guests in a way that left me wanting to know more (but I didn't want to be too nosey). I am now hooked on luxury level B and Bs for my short travel adventures.

This venue was so out of my league as I drove up, but immediately upon arrival was made to feel a part of the family. My 1st time at a B&B and has set the standards for what I expect from now on. Lannie is a huge part of what makes the venue special, he is open, honest and willing to answer any questions with just enough info. to keep you wanting more, and does this in a proud parent type of way, so you know he loves what he does and it shows.

We spent 3 nights. We loved the lively conversations with Lanning. He is a jolly, people-loving, multi-tasker. He can serve your bountiful breakfast creation while fielding everyones' questions about himself and the inn and the area. He is full of useful information and is never too busy to sit for a minute and talk with you. Our daughter was invited to share breakfast with us the first day which greatly impressed us. She, in the hospitality field, was greatly impressed with the cleanliness of the room.

We were greeted by a young man who helped us to our room. The home is amazing. We enjoyed wondering around the empty main floor--playing the piano, a game of chess. The room was terrific, very elaborate and elegant. Breakfast was when we became very disappointed. The innkeeper was boastful and the conversation at breakfast was very uncomfortable. The food was pleasant, but not remarkable.
