Fitzgerald's Irish Bed & Breakfast

47 Mentor Avenue , Painesville, OH 44077 USA (Show map)

About

Fitzgerald's Irish Bed & Breakfast offers Irish hospitality in a unique 16-room French Tudor built in 1937. You will be charmed by its unique castle-like architecture. Very different from a hotel, Fitzgerald's Irish Bed & Breakfast was ranked fourth in the U.S. and Canada for best interior design and decor. Fitzgerald's offers four guest rooms, each with private bath. Come and admire the stirring architecture of the common areas indoors or lounge on the sun porch while enjoying the park-like yard to watch the migrating birds. Near Cleveland, Mentor and Kirtland, in Lake County. Just a short drive away are some of the most-visited trails and beaches in the Great Lakes region, along with opportunities to sail, swim, cross-country ski, golf, shop and more. Fitzgerald's Irish Bed & Breakfast is located 30 miles east of Cleveland in Painesville's historic district and is easily accessible from Route 2 or I-90. Our guests return again and again for the hospitality and fabulous breakfasts!

A great find!

4.4 on November 16, 2016

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend getaway at Fitzgerald's. Our substitute hosts, Tom and Marlyn, were gracious and attentive and gave us great information about local restaurants and attractions. The Bushmills Room was beautiful, quiet, private and luxurious and just what we needed for peace and relaxation. Our fellow weekenders were a wonderful group and we enjoyed getting to know them at breakfasts. It would have been nice to have some variety in the two breakfasts we were served; however, the food was very good - especially the scones. Overall, we plan to return and look forward to more time at the beaches of Lake Erie and the wineries of northeast Ohio!

Loved It

I posted a review on Trip Adviser; wonderful B&B with a clean, hospitable atmosphere. We would love to come back!

Great...again!

Still having family in the Painesville area, we find ourselves back there once or twice a year. Fitzgerald's has become our "home back home". Debra and Tom are great hosts. Breakfast always starts with something delicious that Tom baked --scone or sweet roll, etc. Debra is enthusiastic and knows all the "spots" in the area for food or fun. Also have their own coffee blend from a local coffe shop -- great cuppa' in the morning. Floors creek, but that adds to the charm of the place. Rooms are big and comfortable. We'll be back again the next time we're in town...next year for sure for our 55th high school reunion!

Off the beaten path, but worthwhile

Situated in a lovely neighborhood, the lodgings are a beautiful home, filled to the hilt with tasteful Irish relics and shamrock decor. The living room has an extremely high, exposed-beams, cathedral ceiling. Floors are hardwood throughout—a true plus. My only misgiving about reserving was dispelled by the next morning’s breakfast: They announce a full breakfast Friday through Sunday and a continental breakfast Monday through Thursday, and room rates are lower those nights as a consequence. Yet, far from leaving you unattended with a toaster, Innkeeper Tom—who is well-traveled—was on hand to help with the table (beautiful emerald flocked satin tablecloth, fine stainless flatware and porcelain place settings) set with carafes of hot coffee, orange juice, kiwi and melon (green!) in crystal compotes, already served scones, available grain cereals, granola bars, and I can’t remember what else. In other words, they don’t skimp even with a reduced breakfast. Makes us want to try a weekend stay, just for the traditional fare. The Fitzgeralds are experienced and cultured in professional hospitality. They provide lovely, comfortable bedrooms and know all the right area restaurants.

Innkeeper Response
Thank you for your kind review and for staying with us. I also appreciate you pointing out the confusion about breakfast. I have made a change online to reflect a full breakfast served on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and continental breakfast on weekdays.

Delightful B&B

We stayed two nights at the Fitzgerald's Irish B&B. The home is spotless. The decor is very tasteful. The bed was very comfortable. The grounds were beautiful. The home was decorated with fresh cut flowers from the garden. Tom picked and served fresh raspberries and red currents with breakfast. I would happily stay with the Fitzgerald's again and again.

Wonderful place to stay

We loved this place. Even though the owners were gone on a trip, the substitutes were wonderful. Only problem was that there is no railing on part of the stairs, and as I use a cane, this was a bit of a problem.

A great find...

Signature Dish

Ham and Egg Breakfast Braid
Our Ham and Egg Breakfast Braid is one of our most requested recipes. A flaky croissant is wrapped around scrambled eggs and a layer of maple cured ham. Most breakfasts are also served with one of Tom's many specialty scones. You will love them!
