Our group of ladies have met at Elliot Rose Guesthouse for the last four winters for our annual retreat and we are fortunate enough to book the entire home for two lovely days. The atmosphere is so relaxing and low key after a hectic holiday season. One of the best spots is in the library with the fireplace, my personal favorite! Each room is impeccable and extremely clean and welcoming. We would highly recommend this location for either a couple or multiple families!

We rented the entire home for an overnight sisters and cousins get-together. The hosts were so gracious, and the home is just lovely and very welcoming! The breakfast was lovely, and the scones were absolutely delicious! Becky, Eddie & Kathy

Rented entire home for the weekend, GREAT price for entire home, had numerous classmates stay at the home with us, which allowed us to visit, relax, have our privacy in our own beautiful rooms when needed. Everything detail is thought of and ready for you when you arrive. Wonderful host and hostess, BREAKFAST WAS A GREAT way to start the day; fresh ingredients, homemade honey cake and scones, frittata and quiches, always something a bit different each morning! Of all of the B&B's I've stayed at this is by far my FAVORITE one!! DEFINATELY will be back with my entire family next time!!! Loved it!!! Bev & Randy Class of 74

My husband and I, along with my 2 daughters, their spouses and children, (ages 8 mos., 2, 4 and 5 yrs.) spent 5 wonderful nights at the Elliot Rose Guest House in early June 2013. It was amazing! We rented the entire house and were completely wowed upon arrival and inspection. My daughters were thrilled to have the sound machines in each bedroom (for the youngsters it was a godsend), and Diana & Paul had set up the crib and toddler air mattress for our youngest grandchildren, complete with a soft animal in bed to greet the 2 yr. old. What nice touches! Everything about the house was just so nice - it was clean, spacious, lots of amenities, well equipped/stocked bathrooms, and both kitchens were neat and also well equipped. There were freshly pressed pillow cases, and lush towels and bathrobes. The decor was also very tastefully done and not crowded with chotzkies like some B&Bs can be. The backyard was also delightful, a great place to gather with other family members staying in the area and for the youngsters to catch fireflies. Great old tree, swing, deck with table and chairs. Very nice. And last but not least - the breakfasts were scrumptious! Those scones are to die for! (I want that recipe.) - They kept our coffee cups full and had juices, scones, fruits, egg dishes, cereals, milk, - all different items on different days - something for everyone. We just couldn't have been happier with our stay. Great hosts and a great house. We will definitely be staying again and cannot recommend it more highly. Thanks Diana & Paul for a wonderful home away from home. Peggy Mohr Christiansen, Fernandina Beach, FL

I have stayed at the ERGH on two separate occasions; a two night stay in November of 2012 and a three night stay in March of 2013. The rooms are inviting and clean making it easy to relax and unwind at the end of the day. However, the best part of the ERGH is at the beginning of each day - breakfast! Diana really goes above and beyond making delicious scones and egg dishes. Fresh fruit, yogurt, hot coffee, and an array of juices are also always on hand. If you'd like to see something special added to your breakfast menu all you have to do is ask - Diana and Paul put their guests' comfort at the top of their list of priorities. I would not hesitate to recommend the ERGH to anyone traveling to, or through, the Defiance area.

We stayed here in mid-February for a weekend. From the hospitality to the breakfast to the room, everything was all we could ask for. If we are ever in need of lodging in northwest Ohio again, we will definitely stay here again.

Diana and Paul are delightful hosts, they feel like family! Their b & b is exactly what I have needed for a long time when visiting relatives in my hometown. It outweighs the stay at a hotel by its hospitality and feeling like home, and not to mention the value! It is by far the cheapest yet best place to stay in Defiance. I would recommend a stay at the Elliot Rose Guesthouse to any of my friends or family. The details are all caringly thought out and perfectly executed. If something were to have gone wrong during our stay, I have no doubt Diana and Paul would have come to our rescue! A wonderful place for out of town visitors, and a place even a local could love for a get away weekend:) Laura and Ken A.

Simply Perfect Scones
Our guests unanimously agree: these scones are fabulous! Served warm right out of the oven, they are simply delightful. Either way, we're sure you'll find that these are like no other scones you've tasted. The texture is flaky and light, but hearty - due to the wholesome 100% whole wheat pastry flour, real butter, and natural yogurt that make up the pastry. Each batch is a flavor sensation, with combinations of dried fruits and nuts, such as: Apricot-Orange-Pecan, Cranberry-Orange-Walnut, Pomegranate-Plum-Orange, Kiwi-PIneapple-Lime-Coconut, and Cherry-Chocolate Chip-Pecan. We use only the best ingredients: Eggland's Best eggs, real citrus zest, hand chopped nuts. Cinnamon and other spices in various combinations highlight the taste and aroma. Hand made, sparkling with demerara sugar topping, crisp on the edges and tender in the middle....can't you just taste them already?
