Just returned from three night stay at the Ellwanger and it was not long enough. What a beautiful estate. Rosemary is an amazing person and has decorated the entire house with beautiful taste and comfort in mind throughout. Lighting good, furniture comfortable, colors lovely and restful. Breakfast was a treat everyday and my plate always looked like a work of art and tasted wonderful. The gardens grounds are beautiful and restful addition to the lovely house. Beds comfortable and everything we needed was within reach. I have stayed at many, many B&B's and this one tops the list. We will be back this summer to see how the gardens have changed. Within talking distance of history cemetery and and park as well as restaurants.

We arrived early at Ellwanger Estate and that was no problem for Rosemary. She greeted us early and gave us a thorough introduction to the Estate and our quarters for the next few days. The room was spacious and open and exactly as described on their website. The bed was comfortable and warm and extra blankets and pillows were available when needed. We were there when Rochester received a pretty heavy storm and knocked out the power to the Estate for over 24 hours. Rosemary sprung into action and ensured we had sufficient lights and kept warm. She also comped us the night of the storm. Totally unnecessary, but Rosemary insisted. The location of Ellwanger is very close to the hospitals, which was the reason for our stay. Rosemary also gave us some extra care by providing amenities after my surgery which went above and beyond the duties of "bed and breakfast". There were several choices for restaurants and entertainment nearby. The morning breakfasts... after having Rosemary's breakfasts you won't be hungry til the evening hours. Such delicious and well-balanced breakfasts. A great way to start each day. We highly recommend staying at the Ellwanger Estate. We stayed in the Woodland Suite and it was delightful. My husband felt that this was his best stay at a bed and breakfast ever.
As a guest of the Ellwanger Estate B&B, thank you so much for your patronage and leaving us with your insightful review! We are delighted to learn that you experienced a fantastic stay with us, savored an amazing breakfast experience, found the location convenient, and enjoyed our well-appointed Woodland Suite. Designer, MacKenzie Child called the room "Whimsical", stating "the outdoors slips inside to serenade your slumber". It certainly found it's way in by knocking out the power. Thank goodness for battery operated candles, a good deck of cards, and a sense of humor! We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back again soon! Warmest wishes, Rosemary Janofsky

I booked the Ellwanger in part because it is walking distance from the nursing home my Mother is in. So glad I did. The estate is spectacular (even in winter). The building is gorgeous, Rosemary is very welcoming and accommodating. Turns out we were the only ones there that weekend (mid December) and had the run of the place. I am sad we were there i winter because the gardens look like they would be spectacular. Breakfast fast amazing.
Thank you so much for the wonderful review and stay. We pride ourselves in exceeding guests' expectations and it seems we did just that. I also had the pleasure of meeting your mother yesterday, while giving a fun virtual tour of the Ellwanger Estate B&B and Gardens to the residents, and sharing our multigrain croissants with pear butter. It was a hit!! They too look forward to the Ellwanger Garden in May. We look forward to your return in the Spring!!

My cousin and I stayed in the Victorian Suite at the Ellwanger Estate for two nights September 19 and 20th 2016. We loved our stay! The Estate is beautiful as are the surrounding gardens. Our host Rosemary was extremely helpful and friendly. The gourmet breakfasts were wonderful and extensive. There were also snacks like cookies and fruit out all day. The mansion is so historic and lovely. Our room was large and comfortable. We would love to visit again, and highly recommend this Inn.

My wife and I just returned from a trip at the Ellwanger Estate. We were visiting on business for the weekend, and Rosemary made us feel as if we never left home. We travel often for weekend business trips, and never have we stayed in an environment so comforting and enjoyable. The breakfast was delicious, the room was very clean, and the setting was the kind you look forward to coming home to after a day out. Location is perfect for access to the highway system, along with downtown and many great restaurants. Universities are also within walking distance. The river is behind the property, which lends itself to great running along the trail. We look forward to visiting the Ellwanger Estate again soon. Highly recommended.
Feeling like home away from home is what we strive for, and you found it! We look forward to seeing you in 2017!

The Ellwanger Estate is a veritable oasis where most travelers' expectations will be exceeded. The location is private yet has easy access to downtown and the greater Rochester area. What sets this B&B is not so much the lovely compound of the estate or the well-appointed accommodations or spacious common areas, but rather the innkeeper, Rosemary. She makes visiting this extraordinary venue an exceptional lodging experience. Guests are warmly welcomed, their needs anticipated from reading glasses to yoga mats!! Moreover Rosemary serves a sumptuous breakfast with engaging conversation. Visit once and you will leave wanting to return! I did.

We stayed at the Ellwanger Estate for two nights (October 30th and 31st) while visiting friends in the area. The Woodland Suite was clean, comfortable and the Arts and Crafts style decor in the private sitting room is lovely. They have preserved a lot of the original features and gorgeous woodwork, but thankfully a modern bed and bathroom. The bed is like sleeping on a cloud and the WiFi signal is strong. There was no television in the room, but there is one downstairs in a small sitting room you can use if you want to relax. We were able to wander in and out when we pleased (provided a key), and the owner (Rosemary) always had tea, coffee and some sweets available. We ate breakfast with the other guests on the first morning, and they were very incredibly friendly and interesting people. Breakfast was delicious on both days. Fresh fruit and something delicious with eggs, as well as home made baked goods, on both mornings. We are still talking about the warm croissants! The day we woke up very late, and notified Rosemary we would not be down for breakfast, she kept it warm for us. Unfortunately, because we were on a two-day whirlwind tour of Rochester, we couldn't spend much time exploring the house. We were in awe at the level of restoration detail the owner has captured, right down to playing early jazz music in the grand sitting room, to make you feel like you have stepped back into time. It's really amazing. Rosemary will go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. There was never an issue with parking our rental car in the driveway, there were plenty of spots available. It is also very walkable (or short drive) to the South Wedge area of Rochester, which has fancy coffee shops, pubs and places to have a nice lunch or dinner.
The Traveler's Rest is a grand, quiet sanctuary, accessed by the stairs and offers 322 square feet of unique space in which to unwind and consider which Rochester landmark you'll take on next. Beautifully appointed in fine luxury with a Queen Prana bed, reproduction antique writing desk, and a private bath with shower, tiled in green glass. It's a favorite for honeymooners and corporate guests, with it's chandelier, bamboo curtain rods with designer curtains, hand painted map wall murals, and candle light fireplace. The cranberry and beige tones are comforting. Decorated by Antonia Orlando, with Designer's Library: for making"Memories of planning, exploring, and experiencing new adventures".

Rosemary was not born in the house that is now the Ellwanger Estate Bed & Breakfast. Although a few call her Helen (Ellwanger, granddaughter to George, and preservationist). During the day, The Ellwanger (and Barry Botanical and Pomological Gardens” aka Mt. Hope Nursery) was a little piece of Heaven. It still is. “I stumble upon this diamond in the ruff and found that I needed it as much as it needed me”. She’s is now an innkeeper for the last 7 years ...and l loves it!
