Love this B&B! Joan was very sweet and hospitable. She welcomed us with area info and delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies. Buck's Homestead is a farmhouse that Joan grew up in, which I totally love. Room was very comfy, felt at home....I could live in this house no doubt. And Joan throws down quite a breakfast! Next time we are in the area we would love to stay at Buck's...and for longer! Shannon & Matt Connelly Grass Valley, CA

My husband and I last minute decided to take a mini vacation to Montgomery NY. Last minute we booked our stay at Buck's Homestead B&B. We had never experienced staying at a B&B and Miss Joan made this experience wonderful. We were warmly greeted by her and her cats and delicious cookies. Her house is very clean with a lot of history everywhere you look. Our bathroom was equipped with all the needed necessities. We would get up every morning to the smell of a breakfast that you'd die for¿¿. She was really helpful in being a tour guide. We will definitely visit her again.

I will just give the pros and cons and you can make up your own mind. Pros - The area is lovely. The property itself is across from a farm and is also lovely. Great to be in an historic 1800s home run by Joan, the friendly host. Elaborate 3 course breakfasts. Keurig coffee and tea maker in the room (ours didn't work) and in the hallway (did work and we used it). Cons - We stayed for two nights. After our first night we left for the day at about 10AM. We returned at about 5:00PM to find our room hadn't been touched. I mean everything was as we had left it when we headed out that morning: Bed still unmade, trash still there, used coffee cups still where they had been. IOW - No one had come in to at least tidy up. We didn't necessarily expect fresh sheets, but NOTHING done? Also - There was a door was in our room with a sign "Private". We guessed the other side was Joan's private residence. When we came back on that same afternoon she must have been hosting a group party. We could hear everything. It felt like the people were in our room with us. Tough to relax after a long day. Luckily it didn't last beyond 7PM.

We just returned from a two night stay at Buck's Homestead B&B. The few days leading up to our stay and the day prior to our arrival had been especially difficult due to the loss of one of our cherished cats. From the moment we arrived at Buck's Homestead, we felt welcomed and relaxed. Our room was comfortable and lovely with beautiful period furnishings. Very spacious bathroom in the Queen En-suite Room. The entire house was charming and warm. Joan had chocolate chip cookies to welcome us and delicious breakfasts each morning. She was also so helpful in recommending places to eat and to visit in the area. Her home is situated on a lovely country road and, of course, the fall foliage was just gorgeous! We met two other lovely couples at breakfast each morning which was an added bonus! And not to be forgotten, little Chippie put a smile on our faces each day. Meow! Thank you Joan for a lovely stay and for your warm hospitality. Ellen & Marc

Joan runs a fantastic little B&N in Montgomery. The room was very nice and comfortable. The food - well it was just wonderful. We stayed 3 nights and had just amazing meals. The eggs benedict was to die for. Joan also had some great tips for activities. We never would have seen the outdoor art at Storm King if she hadn't recommended it. The property is off the main road but close to the village center and close to sites to visit. Just a beautiful county home. Thank you so much for delightful time. Joe and Lori P. Denver CO.

Joan has reestablished her childhood home into a wonderful B&B with amenities from the earliest part of the families history to the present. The room was comfortable, clean and quiet. And the breakfasts were awesome!

My boy friend and I like to get away for long weekends and drive somewhere not too far from the city. Our stay at the Buck's Homestead Bed & Breakfast worked out perfectly for one such get away. We spent two nights at Joan's warm and cozy home which meant we got to have two of her delicious and hearty country breakfasts. We were also lucky to have been the only guests those two nights so we enjoyed complete privacy moving about our bedroom, the sitting room and our private bathroom. The welcome we received from Joan was warm yet unobtrusive. It started with packages of chocolates and homemade cookies and ended with her own little booklet of her favorite breakfast recipes. And in between, there were bottles of water in the refrigerator and a Keurig machine with a supply of single-cup coffees and teas. Everything was clean, the queen-sized bed was comfortable, and there was a full supply of basic amenities, even dental floss and toothpaste. We would go back to Buck's Homestead if we happened to be in the neighborhood again.

Thank you Joan for an awesome stay at your home. We had a most delightful stay in your charming Bed and Breakfast. My girlfriend and I typically go away in the fall for a "Girls Get Away" from all our kids and husbands. This was the terrific spot for us to start our adventures in the Hudson Valley. We thoroughly enjoyed your warm welcome, comfy accommodations and fabulously delicious breakfasts. The little town of Montgomery was adorable and your tip to head down to Cold Spring for antiquing and lunch was perfect too. Thanks again for a marvelous stay.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our far too short stay (one night) at Buck's Homestead. This is a beautiful farmhousethat is filled with memorabilia of its former dairy days. The room was great and Joan has thought of all the amenities you might have forgotten and need in the bathroom like toothbrushes, health and shower products etc. Our room looked out on a field of sweet corn with the workers bringing in the harvest. Breakfast was hearty and delicious in a relaxed atmosphere with the satellite radio playing Josh Grobin. We will be back.

I stayed here on a recent trip to the area. The home is really beautiful and the location is convenient but peaceful. Fortunately, I really like cats, but if you are looking for a B&B in this area and don't like cats, don't stay here. They are everywhere and the first floor smells like cat litter (that really perfumy clean cat litter smell, not like cat poop). There are also some issues with bathroom ventillation and smells in general, so you shouldn't stay if you have sensitive sense of smell. However, our room was clean and comfortable, the bathroom was very spacious and up-to-date for a house from this era, the breakfast was delicious, and we had a very pleasant stay.

We stayed at Buck's Homestead over Memorial Day weekend. We felt welcome and catered to throughout our entire stay. We were greeted with fresh baked chocolate chip cookies and a flower from the garden in our room. The Queen room was airy and spacious. The view overlooks the landscaped property and a wide open picturesque field across the street. Much thought went into making sure we had everything we needed. Coffee and tea, extra towels, bathrobes, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, extra pillows and much more! The bed was so comfortable that we didn't want to leave. We spent time relaxing in the rocking chairs on the front porch and sitting in the gazebo. Breakfast in the morning was amazing! The table was decorated with red, white and blue fresh flowers for Memorial Day and our own bubbles. Fresh fruit, yogurt parfait, coffee, french toast, warm maple syrup and brown sugared bacon was out of this world! We sat on the screened in porch and took in the peacefulness of the beautiful gardens and yard. We are excited to return and spend more time enjoying all that the inn has to offer!

I grew up in Montgomery and staying at Buck's Homestead I felt like I stepped back in time without losing any of our modern amenities. The owner, Joan Buck Smith, grew up in this very home and I loved reading her family history. She is the consummate hostess and the FOOD is PHENOMENAL. She has thought of everything you could possibly want or need and is a treasure trove of information about the area. I give Buck's my highest recommendation.

Nice rooms, quaint decor, most comfortable bed I've ever slept in at a B&B, Joan does a wonderful job making you feel welcome and special. We recommend Buck's Homestead if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Need to know that the house cats (2) - soft, fluffy, and friendly - have the run of the home, so if you're allergic, bring your Allegra!

Growing up in Montgomery this is a must stay.If you want the feel of this small village.Upon picking up the phone to book your stay you feel the warmth of small town. Then upon arriving Joan greets you with that same warmth. If you need to relax and just let the day slide away you will be hard pressed to find another place like Buck's. The rooms are country the way it was when i was a kid. They are clean cozy and relaxing. Joan can give you a history lesson on the town if you want or you can just be left alone but the latter of the two is not the way it was.Joan will put on a breakfast that will leave you full for the better part of the day.All country cooking with homemade jams and breads, honey. I stay here every time I come home to bring back my childhood memories of times long ago but it is still alive here.A must stay rather it be a day or a week. George Bacon

Upon arrival we were greeted by Joan and given some fresh homemade chocolate cookies and offered a cold glass of iced tea. The room was very comfortable and clean and felt like you were home. Bathroom was clean with plenty of towels and extra toiletries. We even had bathrobes! Breakfast was outstanding each of the three days that we stayed. Joan is a terrific hostess and will direct you to local attractions. Would highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast. Thank You, Joan!

The bedrooms were very cozy, very clean and very comfortable. In addition there are 2 very clean bathrooms for the non-suite guests. These bathrooms are clean, were on the same floor as your bedroom and had a lot of amenities. Towels galore! Let me put it this way, if you forget to bring lotion, toothpaste or even a toothbrush...it's there. The owner and hostess of the place, Joan Smith, is such a sweet, thoughtful lady. We were presented with cookies upon arrival and were sent home with more cookies and banana bread upon check out. Breakfast was, of course, included with what you paid for and it wasn't something to sniff about either. She really knows how to entertain and seems to truly care about the guests (knowing that we were coming with kids, Joan even shopped for juice boxes and yogurt). The breakfast consisted of carved pineapples, homemade parfait, a delicious French toast and bacon. Of course the menu changes but all were delicious. Thanks, Joan! We had a lovely stay at Buck's homestead in Orange County NY. We were in town to pick up our Son , the US Marine who had been in Japan over two years and we were really excited so we decided to arrive a day early and explore all the wonderful local attractions and there's a lot to do in the area. We wanted to try something different but we experienced better at the B&B, It felt like home. Extremely clean not even dust bunnies, not just beautifully decorated almost everything had a story or told the history about Orange County, outstanding / friendly service. I enjoyed the breakfast while listing to music , I enjoyed all the details of the meal and she considered our food restrictions very gracefully. We will return for a longer stay next time. Thank you, The Ockletrees

This is an exceptional facility, comfortably furnished, a screened in porch to relax on warm summer evenings, a well maintained pool, an extensive library of current movies and always has absolutely outstanding breakfasts! Joan is the most gracious hostess assisting with the needs of her guests. We have stayed here several times and have always found the service to be exceptional.

A surprize 90th birthday party necessitated the gathering of many family members from out of town. What a joy to have a place right near the event for 6 family members to stay togethter and enjoy each other before hand as well as the morning of the event! Bed and bathRooms were warm and beautifully appointed--top-notch! Joan was a great hostess! Delicious, abundant breakfast food and cookie treats--even a Keurig for our favorite brews! She was attentive and delightfully conversational but also sensitive to just letting us enjoy each other. She was very accommodating of our schedules for arrival and departure. Would recommend this hidden gem as a great place to relax or a beautiful base to come back to after exploring the area. Susan J.

I was very fortunately to have stayed at the Bucks Homestead in Sept. 2011.I being from the Montgomery area growing up.I moved away back in 1986.I had missed the small town feel I grew up with. Not only was my room wonderful but Joan treated me like I was family. The morning breakfast was just unbelievable after a good nites sleep and long drive the day before. She made enough to feed two people. So if you are ever fortunate enough and are passing through Montgomery do yourself a favor and spend a nite or two.You will not regret this stay . Thank you Joan for making me feel at home. Sincerely George Bacon

My husband and I were looking for a relaxing weekend away from our teens...and found paradise at Buck's Homestead. Our hostess, Joan, was warm and welcoming and never intrusive. Our room was cozy, comfortable, roomy and filled with quaint country accessories. Breakfast was a real treat with fresh fruit, homemade treats and almost too many good things to eat...though we managed. Thank you Joan for a wonderful experience!
