I arrived after dark, so could not see the lovely bones of this old home, but the even older home still standing from the early 1800's stands right next to this one, and its beautiful logs and old clapboards create an aura that can't be matched by many B&B's. The breakfast was incredibly tasty: crisp bacon, a piping hot cheese souffle, fresh muffins, fresh fruit and four juices. The owners are extremely hospitable and welcoming, making a stay as homey and comfortable as my own mom's. I will return again and again.

Lovely room with sitting area. Modern windows and white noise machine muffled sounds from the state highway and passing trains. Roland was a considerate and gracious host and a fine cook, while Steve generously offered an abundance of information on local history. My room had a hair dryer, something not obvious on the website. There was a Keurig machine in the upstairs hall, plus a microwave and a tiny refrigerator with bottled water and space for small items, all near a sitting area in the hall. Roland even provided a proper dinner plate, utensils, and cloth napkin when I brought in some hot take-out food. The well water system might shut itself off unexpectedly in the middle of the night when drought conditions are present, but there's bottled water handy, and Roland resets the system as quickly as possible so that nobody is inconvenienced. An air conditioner and ceiling fan kept the room cool and comfortable. I had a most enjoyable stay.

Roland was the most gracious host - and was always available to answer questions and address a minor issue (which is to be expected at any historic home). Breakfasts were delicious and room was delightfully comfortable. Lots of antiques on the lower level - fun to explore! We stayed here to visit Cooperstown during HOF week - location is an easy 40 minute drive.

Warm and welcoming hosts made our stay a delight. Roland and Steve shared their knowledge of the area and the history of their beautiful home and made us feel "at home". Portobello Inn was a highlight of our trip and we definitely recommend it. Nance and Ken

From the moment Roland met us at the door,. we found the service at Portobello to be attentive, but in no way overbearing. The Inn is beautifully decorated, with a fabulous collection of antiques. The room was comfortable and quite clean, with surprising attention to detail (for example, ironed bedsheets and towels). Breakfasts were exceptional, with a good variety of pretty healthy choices, well prepared (see recipes on the website!). One of the owners spent time one morning telling us about the interesting history of the area, We were looking only for a place to stay over the weekend while we visited relatives, but found it to be much more than that, We would return just for the B&B.

The Portobello Inn is a hidden treasure in Central NY. Roland and Steve made us feel completely at home in their magnificent inn. The historic home is backdrop for tremendous service and amazing breakfasts. As anyone who has owned a historic home can attest, they are always a work-in-progress... The Portobello Inn has enough charm to make up for a few repairs that were underway during our stay.

Stay one night in early June. We were met by a gracious host who remember all our requests and upgrade our room to the Arlington. The room was comfortable, well decorated and quiet (no concern in this room due to closest of train tracks.) Breakfast was well prepared and tasty. A lovely egg dish with the recipe shared. Do not avoid this lovely and old home due to the outside appearance. Per our host the flaking outside paint has been a problem and not easily solved.
