Recently my fiance and I stayed at the Whistling Swan Inn for the weekend. The room was so intimate, and incredibly clean. The description on the site matched my expectations perfectly! All guests were so welcoming, and very respectful. We had two nights, or the most peaceful sleep we've had in a long time! The Inn Keeper was so wonderful! She is extremely knowledgeable of the area and was able to direct us to some excellent places to shop. She stopped to talk with us during breakfast, and not at one point did we feel rushed or like we were a bother. Breakfast is made on site by the Inn Keeper and it was very delicious! Each morning was something different and each meal was perfect. So pleasant being able to eat outside, and there was plenty of room and different seating areas for people to mingle, or branch off on their own. They definitely think of everything to make your stay more delightful and easy going. I had ordered a private couples massage, and I must say, they did deliver! She was excellent! By far, one of the most professional and friendly people I've ever met! I would definitely stay there again, my fiance and I even discussed it becoming our little thing when we want to get away for the weekend (combined we have 4 children - getaways are very important to us!). Would definitely recommend to others, the entire time I was there I could picture friends and family staying there!
Thank you so much for the glowing review. We do strive to make our guests' experience here memorable. The couples' massage is one of our most asked for packages, and I'm glad it was just what you needed/wanted. We'll look forward to seeing you both again soon.

Mother daughter getaway to Stanhope was enhanced by our stay at the lovely Whistling Swan Inn. We brought dinner to enjoy on the amazing wrap-around porch with fireflies lighting our table. Our room was beautiful with a sparkling new bathroom. We appreciated the complimentary array of cold beverages and snacks at any hour. Our garden side breakfast on the porch was delicious! We enjoyed good conversation with our hostess, Rosalind. We have plans to return in the Fall.

We stayed at the Inn for Fourth of July weekend and stayed in the Walnut Valley Suite. The Inn has well-appointed rooms and peaceful surroundings. The morning breakfast was delightful--you might find blueberry French toast, eggs benedict, sticky buns, and other delicious treats. Innkeepers Roz and Tom are wonderful and great conversationalists. Enjoy resting at the Inn or venturing out to nearby restaurants, wineries, lakes and parks. A wonderful stay!

Spent a lovely night at the Whistling Swan Inn and wished we could have stayed much longer. Our room was cozy and comfortable, the breakfast was substantial and delicious, and there was also a generous offering of soft drinks, coffee, tea, snacks, baked goods and sherry available all day. Though the Inn is situated in a residential neighborhood, it was very quiet and we were able to relax on the porch and sit in the gazebo overlooking the garden, the only sound being water from the fountain and coy pond. Rosalind was friendly and informative, giving us suggestions for places to visit and restaurants to try. We are anxiously awaiting a return visit.

This B&B is top notch, with well-appointed rooms, delicious buffet breakfast which might include such selections as blueberry French toast, eggs Benedict, sticky buns, waffles, cereals and fruit, among other items. Relax on the porch, indulge in a glass of sherry, engage in conversation. Innkeepers Roz and Tom are a delight. Located on a quiet street, you could easily rest at the Inn or venture out to nearby attractions, lakes and parks, wineries and restaurants. We had a wonderful getaway to celebrate our anniversary!
We're so glad you had a memorable experience at the inn.

In North Jersey there is just one place to stay: The Whistling Swan Inn. There is a German word that best describes the Inn: Gemuetlichkeit. It takes a-half dozen words in English to translate it; but, it means, warm, cozy, friendly, comfortable, good, etc. The owners, and hostess and host, are Roz and Tom Bruno. They are very accommodating and helpful with special requests and interests of which I’ve had some, such as entertaining guests, ordering from local vendors, and ‘hands-on-help’. Roz’s breakfasts are the best to include special requests. If it’s reasonable and possible, it’s done. The Inn is a great ‘go-to’ destination-great for a quiet long weekend get-away. I think my wife and I have stayed at The Whistling Swan at least six or seven times in as many years.
Thank you so much for this glowing review. We do try our best to ensure that every guest has a memorable experience, and we're so glad that you keep coming back.

Stayed over our 30th wedding anniversary at the Swan. The room was great, Roz & Tom were warm, welcoming and helpful. The home is lovely even in a New Jersey winter. We've already recommended the Swan to friends and will gladly return.

My wife and I stayed at the Whistling Swann this past November and had a wonderful experience. We stayed in the Stillwater Mini Suite. Rosalind was a fantastic host. The Inn was beautiful, and our room was perfect. Breakfast was excellent. I strongly recommend this B&B, and look forward to coming back again.

I recently visited the New Jersey area and when I went to search for hotels in the area I found this B&B. The price was reasonable to what I would pay for chain hotels and the staff was EXTREMELY friendly and personable. I would recommend this place to anyone and did on my visit. I will be staying here on my next trip to the area. Awesome experience.

This beautiful Inn is everything you would want and expect from a well-run B&B. Out of the way enough to provide very quiet and relaxing surroundings, but perfectly situated for enjoying all that this region provides - including journeys into NYC. Breakfasts were great - whether off the buffet or off the grill, they catered to every taste. And LOVED coming in of an evening and finding those brownies waiting for us. Rooms were tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable. Grounds were beautifully landscaped (I can see why people want to get married here.) Roz, your hospitality and customer focus are unrivaled. Thanks for a great experience and some lasting memories.
Thank you so much for your generous review. We're so happy your experience here at the inn was a memorable one. We'll look forward to seeing you again the next time you come to town.

We recently booked the Whistling Swan Inn for our wedding of 40 people. It was a perfect setting for our ceremony in the garden and reception on the wide wrap around porch. The inn is beautifully and restored in Victorian style with ornate woodwork and antiques in every room. We felt very much at home in our room, as did family and friends who stayed for the weekend. We can not say enough about Ros who was very hospitable to all of our guests, but also extremely helpful as our "ring leader" in planning our day. She had wonderful contacts for all of our needs and everyone worked together beautifully. It truly was a low stress atmosphere for planning an event. On a final note, the breakfast in the morning is not to be missed! There were several delicious cold and hot options, especially the lemon pancakes. We highly recommend this inn, whether staying for a few nights or planning an intimate gathering.
It was indeed my pleasure to help you make your wedding a memorable one. We're wishing you both many more years of happiness. Ros

A stay in the Tranquility room was "just what the doctor ordered" after a couple rough weeks at work. My gf and I enjoyed dinner down the street at Bell's Mansion, then took a casual stroll by the creek in the morning. The proprietor at the Inn was welcoming, and made us feel at home! Definitely recommend.

Absolutely exceeded my expectations. The house is beautiful, the staff are welcoming and friendly, the breakfast was 5 Star - best we ever had at a B&B, the grounds were lovely and the room and home was clean as a whistle . . . or should I say a whistling swan. The wrap around porch was delightful and my daughter and her beau enjoyed visiting us there. My hubby and I ate one meal in the Gazebo admiring the garden. Tom and Ros, you have got one wonderful gardener. Don't hesitate to stay here. You will absolutely want to come back again.
Thank you for your glowing review. We're so happy you liked the garden; I think I've finally put the right annuals in that can stand the full sun. I'll let Tom know as he is our gardener extraordinaire. Do come again; we'll be delighted to see you.

Tom could not be more friendly and accommodating. As compared to other places, this B&B offered tasty, full breakfasts. The always open common lounge area was welcoming and well stocked with cookies and soft drinks, tea or coffees, even sherry. There was an extensive collection of DVDs too. The wrap around front porch and grounds were wonderful too. We had a very enjoyable stay.

We went up as three couples from the same family, and loved our stay. The rooms were clean and inviting, Roz was a very welcoming host and breakfast both days was delicious. Cookies and brownies and coffee available whenever we wanted them. I recommend this Inn to anyone staying in the Skylands area of NJ.

We stayed for a long weekend 3/25 -3/28/2016. Ros was amazing. The décor and the breakfast that was prepared each morning was truly wonderful. She really would make you feel right at home. Very pleasant staff. I would definitely return and recommend this to everyone. My husband and I rode bikes along the canal which are complimentary. We also went to Bushkill Falls which is about 40 minutes form the hotel. Lots to see. Very cozy!!!

The inside story to my recent stay, before my review... I was given a weekend stay gift card by a very dear friend of mine... She knows that I'm basically a jeans, t-shirt and sneakers type of guy, and was hoping to broaden my horizons with a stay at the inn... My plan was to enjoy a relaxing 'no plans' weekend away and see what came up... We checked in mid-day on Friday and were greeted by the very gracious Ros, she filled us in on everything and showed us to our room... And we just settled in for a lazy night, complete with some very yummy freshly baked cookies and brownies and a fine glass of sherry... Saturday morning we headed down for a breakfast that left us full, and every tastebud tickled... We headed out to explore the local area and came back after a few hours to find our freshened up room... The room well it was quaint and comfy, with a bathroom that we kinda wanted to sneak home with us... We asked Ros for a recommendation for an Italian restaurant, and wow she sent us to an awesome one... So to sum it up, we totally enjoyed our stay, and are looking forward to future visits to further explore the area, knowing we'll enjoy great hospitality, an awesome breakfast and a relaxing stay away from our everyday... Thank you Ros...

We wanted to relax and enjoy some time together... and our expectations were exceeded. This B&B has old world charm that lends perfectly to romance and relaxation. Our suite was very unique, comfortable, spotless and with great amenities. Ros and the staff are welcoming, kind and attentive, while allowing plenty of privacy. We were pampered with delicious breakfasts - the lemon pancakes are to die for!! We also enjoyed dinner at nearby restaurants that Ros recommended. It was the perfect getaway, one we hope to return to one day. Thank you!

The Whistling Swan Inn is a welcome alternative to the chains for the business traveler. Tom maintains a fleet of bikes which can be used on the nearby Morris Canal bike path which connects to the Sussex Branch Rail Trail. Much better than the fitness room. After your morning ride, read the papers on the front porch with you first cup of coffee which is available 24 hours. The rates are competitive with the nearby chains but those hotels can't match the home cooked breakfasts prepared by Ros. Breakfast conversations are always enjoyable with like minded travelers. If you have an early departure, she prepares breakfast to go with a delicious hot egg sandwich. Finish the day with one of Ros' killer brownies on a platter by the beverage station. A microwave is available for a convenient dinner if you don't have the time or energy to dine out.

Ros is awesome...super sweet and helpful...I am a total breakfast girl and Ros did not disappoint. The inn is beautiful but not stuffy. You feel at home and more than welcomed.. The 24 hr snack bar is a great touch and the brownies to die for. If you are looking for a welcoming relaxed place to unwind your search is over. Next time we stay we are going to do Jacuzzi suite for complete relaxation. I had the best time doing nothing with my hubby for our anniversary .. Thanks Ros.

My daughter and I stayed here one night for a Mom/Daughter weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Roz, out hostess was very welcoming and friendly. Our room was lovely and we enjoyed the electric fireplace. The only reason the room doesn't get 5 stars is the lack of facial tissues. A silly thing but we missed them. The breakfast was delicious with many choices and yummy eggs benedict. My only disappointment was that we weren't staying a second night. Definitely would recommend this B&B.
I'm so sorry there were no facial tissues in your room. I can certainly understand how that can be annoying. When I inspect the rooms, I'll be sure to double check to ensure there's a box of tissues in each room. I'm glad your stay was otherwise pleasant, and I'll look forward to seeing you again.

An excellent atmosphere, great rooms and especially the courteous Roz makes this place a homerun. I can not add anything that has not already been written about this great get-away. Concern over the needs of the guests. I need to eat a bland diet. Roz had no problem making sure my breakfasts were perfect for my diet. What else do you need to know? Returning in June... see you there...

Excellent B&B in Stanhope, NJ. My wife and I just needed a quick overnight getaway and this was just the place. Ros, was an excellent host and made the reservation process and our overnight stay painless. She recommended a nice place in town for dinner and we had a lovely time there as well. We stayed in the Walnut Valley Suite. A lovely Victorian decorated room on the second floor. It had its own sitting area and fireplace. It was just cold enough outside to enjoy that and we did. In the morning, Ros had a delicious breakfast ready for us and the other guests. We had a lovely time and recommend this B&B. Thanks Ros for a wonderful experience.

My wife and I have stayed at the Whistling Swan Inn at least a half a dozen time over as many years to include BRT (Before Ros and Tom). It's the best place to stay in northern New Jersey; and it's only an hour's drive from Newark Airport (after commuter traffic has passed). We like it because it's comfortable, quiet, reasonably priced, and breakfasts are 'gourmet'. And importantly, Ros and Tom are a superb and accommodating hosts.
Thank you for your kind words ... we're blushing! It's always a pleasure to see old friends when they return to the Inn, and we're glad that you've continued to make us your home away from home.

As a wedding gift, we were given a gift certificate for this lovely B&B. We hadn't planned a honeymoon, so this was perfect. We stayed 2 days in the Harmony Suite. The room was quiet and comfortable. The owner/innkeeper, Ros, is personable and makes wonderful breakfast items. She even shared one of her recipes that we enjoyed. We ate dinner the first night at a German restaurant called The Black Forest. The next night was yummy burgers at the Stanhope House. Delicious! We recommend both! We really enjoyed our time at the Whistling Swan and will definitely return!

This was the first time that my wife and I stayed at a Bed and Breakfast. We were there a few months ago. It was everything we we were looking for in a Bed and Breakfast and more. We were very lucky. We were the only ones staying there at the time and that allowed us to look at each room and choose the one that we would like to stay in next time. The entire house is very, very clean. Much better than most hotels. We felt very comfortable there and slept great. The room and the bed was very comfortable. The owner, Roz, is wonderful and a joy to talk to. She will leave you alone if you like and give you your space, or she will tell you about her house and the area. She is a wonderful cook too. There is a lot to do here. Large selection of DVD's with a DVD player and a nice TV in each room. Large selection of interesting books and newspapers to read. I enjoyed looking at all of the pictures on the walls and other knick knacks. Check out the wall of different Presidential pictures on the second floor landing. We will be going back as soon as we can. There is a lot to do in the area and good dining, but The Whistling Swan is really a destination in itself, not just a place to stay while visiting the area. I just wish it were closer to home so we could go more often. You will not be disappointed. Especially with the home made chocolate cookies. Mmmmmm! We did not feel like we were staying in a hotel, but rather the home of a friend.
Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm so glad your first stay at a bed and breakfast was a memorable one. My number one priority as an innkeeper is to ensure that guests feel comfortable and leave relaxed, rejuvenated and well-fed. I'm so glad the reality lived up to your expectations of a B&B stay.

I could not have asked for a better experience with Ros and Tom. Ros opened her Inn and her arms to my family and friends. She allowed us to hold my sister's bachelorette party at her Inn and she went above and beyond in her accommodations to a large party of women, many of whom were not even staying the night. She allowed us to have a painting class and she set up a beautiful catered dinner on her front porch. The bride-to-be was beyond happy and without Ros' help, the night would not have been nearly as successful. The inn was beautiful and very well kept. Her breakfast was delicious as well! Thank you for your hospitality!
I appreciate the kind words. It was a pleasure helping these ladies celebrate such a happy milestone in the guest of honor's life. They were charming and convivial guests, and I'm delighted they enjoyed the dinner, the breakfast and the special beauty of this wonderful old home.

We recently celebrated our anniversary in the Walnut Valley Suite at Whistling Swan. The inn is charming, well appointed with gorgeous furnishings, well kept, and extraordinarily clean. Ros (the innkeeper) is extremely hospitable and is a great chef. The breakfasts were in keeping with expectations for an inn on the Select Registry. Ros keeps home baked goods, coffee, tea, cold beverages, a flask of sherry, and other snacks available for her guests 24-7. The bed, furniture, and room furnishings were comfortable providing for a relaxed environment. There was plenty of hot water for the romantic Jaccuzzi and the twin "his and her" separate bathrooms. The room was private and quiet. Ros made us feel more like visiting relatives than guests. While we didn't need any special considerations, she made sure we knew that nothing was too small to ask. Housekeeping also really did a nice job. Overall, this is the finest B & B we have ever visited and we would recommend it to anyone wishing to stay in the Stanhope, North Jersey area. The Whistling Swan is a perfect getaway "worth the whistle" and exemplifies how a B & B should be operated. Thanks Ros for a delightful stay. We will be returning again. My wife and I stayed at the Whistling Swan for two nights over Veterans Day weekend. The Whistling Swan participated in the B&Bs for Vets program, offering one free night to military veterans that weekend. Ros and Tom are excellent hosts, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We would definitely recommend this B&B to friends, and will probably stay again. Check-in and check-out: we arrived late, but we were able to get to our room with no issues. Ros provided us with a code to access the front door, and left the key to our room on the front desk. There is plenty of parking available in the lot behind the inn. Check-out was easy, and they take all the major credit cards. Room: we stayed in the Morris Canal room on the second floor. The room was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. This room has a heater that simulates a fireplace and a TV with DVD/VCR player. Common areas: there is plenty of room to sit and relax downstairs if you want to do so. Ros and Tom have coffee, tea, snacks, and sherry (delicious!) available downstairs 24 hours a day. They also have a collection books and movies available. Things to do: my wife was experiencing pretty bad morning (all day) sickness so we mostly just rested in our room. We did venture out for pizza down the street, and I had an excellent dinner at Bell’s Mansion. The town has a lot of antique shops, and there are plenty of other options nearby. Breakfast: this is my favorite part of a bed and breakfast, and the Whistling Swan did not disappoint. Ros has an excellent breakfast buffet, and also makes one specialty item to order each day. We enjoyed croissant French toast casserole, breakfast burritos, eggs Florentine, ham, sausage, oatmeal, apple crisp, coffee, tea, orange juice, and an assortment of fruits.

My husband and I stayed at the Whistling Swann in October. What a lovely time of year! Our room (the Harmony) was absolutely perfect from comfort to decor. Ros and Tom made delicious breakfasts each morning and scrumptious snacks to go with our tea and coffee in the afternoon. We enjoyed our talks with Ros,walking and shopping at The Blue Heron Antiques Shop as well as eating at local restaurants. This is definately a B & B that we will not only return to but recommend to our friends.

The Whistling Swan is a beautiful bed and breakfast. The Innkeeper, Ros, pays attention to every detail and is there to answer all of your questions and meet your needs. Unfortunately for us, the room that we chose was too small for us. My husband is 6'' 3" and had trouble feeling comfortable getting around the room. It was a beautiful room nonetheless. I peeked into the unoccupied rooms and no other room had the space issues. All were gorgeous. Loved sitting on the wrap around porch every day with either a cup of coffee in the morning or a cocktail in the evening. I would recommend this Inn.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our too brief overnight stay at the Whistling Swan Inn. The ambiance was timely for the Victorian style of the house. The accommodations were generous and immaculate. The hosts were welcoming and gracious. I wish I had a larger appetite for the delicious homemade breakfast that was served which included a fresh vegetable fritatta and scrumptious banana muffins. The location of the Whistling Swan is ideally located near Routes 80, 280 and 287. There are so many sites and activities to see and do in that area of New Jersey.

This was my first B&B experience, but I wanted to surprise my wife for our 32nd wedding anniversary doing something different. I am glad I chose the Whistling Swan. Beautiful quiet setting, The Stillwater Suite was cozy and comfortable (forget those fancy hotel beds). Roz is friendly. Even though we arrived past open check-in time, she showed us around the Inn and asked if we needed anything. She even had the roses I had ordered in a vase. Great breakfasts. I will be using this place as a standard if I continue going to B&Bs around the US. I've been telling friends and family to go to The Whistling Swan
You were the most charming guests. I'm so glad you enjoyed your anniversary at the inn, and that you are now a convert to B&B's. Looking forward to seeing you both again. R

One of the best b&bs I have stayed at. Good size room, but the extras really made it special. Keurig coffee downstairs, and a variety of coffees to choose from. Cans of soda available at no extra charge and beautiful rooms downstairs to relax in. The nearby restaurants were also excellent and there's plenty to do around the area too. Would definitely go back.

I've stayed at the Whistling Swan Inn five or six times: two or thee times with the former owner, Liz, and at least three occasions with the current owners, Ros and Tom. Ros and Tom are superb hosts as was Liz. Breakfasts are a gourmand's delight. The inn is a go to place for anyone wanting a few days away or has a need to be in Northern New Jersey. It beats any hotel-motel in the area, and it's a 45 minute drive from Newark Airport with light traffic. I've stayed in three or four of the inn's rooms. They are immaculate and nicely decorated. The small ones are small and the large ones are large. Pay attention to room size if that matters.

My boyfriend and I are busy workaholics and were looking for a spot just outside of NY that would provide peacefulness and beauty to a birthday weekend. We arrived late and check in was easy. The Innkeeper, Ros was an amazing host and was able to recommend some dining spots for us that were incredible. We walked all over and enjoyed being on the water's edge. The decor of this B&B is very classic and inviting. We loved our jacuzzi tub, robes and great linens. The pricing was reasonable. We will certainly be back.

My wife and I wanted to get away for a weekend to celebrate our first wedding anniversary and decided to escape to The Whistling Swan Inn. The Innkeepers were very accommodating and the breakfast was delicious. The room was very clean and we went with the Romance Package, which stocked with Champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, and a dozen roses upon our arrival. The Inn is located in a great area- walking distance to fine restaurants, a short bike ride to The Sussex Branch Trail, and Lake Hopatcong is right around the corner. We cannot wait to return back and would recommend the Whistling Swan to any of our friends or family!

My boyfriend and I recently enjoyed a very nice stay at this place for our first bed and breakfast experience ever. The place was amazingly beautiful, breakfast was phenominal, and innkeeper was very friendly and attentive to us whenever we crossed paths. We will definitely come again someday

The Inn is absolutely wonderful and so are the innkeepers - Not to mention great cooks as well. I was so happy that we booked this wonderful weekend and I would recommend any other couple, for a special occasion or simply a relaxing weekend, stay here. It's a very low key area so don't expect a huge amount of night life. The Inn itself is extremely comfortable and beautifully decorated. Your room will make you feel very relaxed and welcomed. The innkeepers will also be happy to provide any advice on what to do and when to do it, places to eat and things to see / do. Have fun when you visit.

I thought it was very refreshing to have such a "southern hospitality" with a northern flare when I stayed at the Whistling Swan. The people who owned and ran it were nothing but sweet and were very personable. I enjoyed the quiteness and comfort of my bedroom and felt very relaxed. I was very pleased with my stay!

I've stayed at nearly a dozen B&Bs around the nation and this one is my favorite. Rooms are very clean and the service is great. Whether you on vacation or business, this B&B is an excellent choice - I've done both. Its in a quite little town but it has everything you need within walking distance. If you can't find it locally they are a malls within 15 minutes where you can find more stores and dining choices if you need them.

My husband and I had a wonderful visit at the Whistling Swan Inn. We had selected this particular inn because of the biking, hiking, strolling to the small town, etc. A week before we left my husband had a bicycle accident and ended up on crutches during our visit so our activities for our weekend stay had to be adjusted. Roz and Tom were most accommodating as our time was spend lounging on the beautiful veranda, enjoying a delicious breakfast each morning, and taking in the local restaurants and shops by car. Once my husband completely recovers we will re-visit the inn to enjoy the outdoor activities we missed!

Delicious breakfast in the morning, including fresh made waffles! We stayed one night and were upgraded to a nicer room than we had paid for (jacuzzi tub instead of just a shower). Ros recommended Bell's Mansion for dinner, which was also delicious and just a short walk away. We definitely enjoyed our stay!

When we were planning a trip to celebrate our anniversary, we realized we could only be away for a few days. We decided to stay in New Jersey and selected an area we had never visited. The Whistling Swan Inn definitely exceeded our expectations. The Inn is beautiful, our room was lovely and Ros, the innkeeper, was a perfect host. She reviewed our plans with us and made additional suggestions (all of which were excellent). She is also a great cook. We highly recommend the Whistling Swan Inn.

We have stayed a night in the Harmony suit. It was very clean and looks new. It is actually somewhat smaller than it is appear on the photos but I would not put that fact as negative. Room feels just the size you need. The breakfast was great, we really enjoined eating outside. The innkeeper was very polite and informative. Definitely recommend to anyone willing to runaway from their crazy routine for a day or two.

I cannot say enough good things about the Whistling Swan Inn, as a B&B or as a wedding venue. From the minute you walk in you are transported into a domain of Victorian splendor. I found the place after several weeks of searching for the perfect venue, and boy am I glad I did. It's tucked away in the residential town of Stanhope, on a quiet street that can be easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. I met with Roz (the Innkeeper) about a year prior and told her that I was planning a Sunday wedding for appx. 50 people. She was cheerful and helpful from the start, and the inn was charming and tidy. I hardly had to decorate at all! In order to hold a wedding, you simply rent out the inn (9 rooms) for that night and pick your menu. We had the Seafood Stuffed Flounder and Sautéed Chicken Breast, with String Beans Almondine and Oven Roasted Red Potatoes (all of which I would highly recommend). I kept getting compliments from my guests on both the venue and the food. You can go to a church for the ceremony, but we chose to have it right by the fountain in the garden, which made a glorious backdrop for pictures, followed by dinner on the lovely veranda. It was so convenient; the ceremony, reception, and hotel were all in the same gorgeous place! Roz stayed on-track coordinating all dinner and wedding activities, and none of my guests wanted for anything. After all the wedding activities concluded, my new husband and I had a relaxing soak in our en-suite jacuzzi and a great night's sleep. Breakfast the following morning was exceptionally good, and I was sorry to have to leave.

We stayed here one night for a mini-honeymoon and it was absolutely fantastic. We were a little bit late for check in but it wasn't a problem, there is great security, and Tom & Ros are really great at what they do. Our room exceeded our expectations and the breakfast was delicious and filling. We would definitely stay here again!
5 on June 11, 2013
We stayed in the "tranquility room" here and it lived up to it's name, cozy, soft and comfortable. We found this room to be the perfect place to retreat for our anniversary. The rest of the inn is beautiful and well cared for. The big wrap around porch with comfy chairs was also relaxing as we watched a town wide yard sale take place! The breakfast was delicious and abundant. Finally, the hosts were welcoming and gracious without being intrusive. Couldn't ask for more!!
5 on June 08, 2013
Super clean and just enough Victorian charm. Updated bathrooms with steam shower and 2 person jet tub in the High Point room. We took a bike ride and then sat on the porch swing and hammock for hours. Very relaxing! The chocolates and the strawberrys in the romantic package were delish and the the massage was excellent. All in all....a great relaxing stay!

This was my first time staying at a B&B and I was blown away. I was only able to stay one night and hope next time to stay longer. The house was magnificent! The room I stayed in you would have never known someone stayed in it. It was spotless and beautifully decorated. I felt so at home. The landscaping and garden were so well kept, it looked like it could be in a magazine. The next best thing I highly enjoyed was the home made breakfast. It was delicious! The inn keepers were so friendly and informative. I cannot wait to go back! Diane Casey

Great breakfasts & plenty of all day drinks & snacks! Our four day stay went way too quickly! Would definitely come back!

We went on trip advisor and counted on the kindness of strangers to help us decide on a great bed and breakfast for a vacation. As soon as we arrived, Ros was friendly and accomodating. The lobby is open and delicious aromas of baking cookies fill the air. She showed us to the common area where teas, coffees, homemade cookies and other treats await the hungry guest. A water cooler stands ready to fill your cups, and a mini-fridge is filled with soda and other drinks guests can take at no charge. There is always a bottle of sherry sitting out for those interested, and some m & m's in a dispenser to snack on. The room we stayed in, the Walnut Valley Suite, was spacious, clean and inviting. We only peaked at other rooms, so I won't speak for them, except to assume they are at least as clean and well stocked. Breakfast in the morning was so good, with certain staples, but then always a special something cooking in the kitchen. Overall, it was relaxing and rejuvenating for us and we would definitenly go back. Ros and Tom understand what it means to be an innkeeper!

We were looking for a romantic weekend away, that wasn't too far from home, and The Whistling Swann Inn was just what we had in mind. We stayed in the Stillwater minisuite and enjoyed every second of it! The room was small but extremely comfortable. It had a whirlpool bathtub, king sized bed and mini fridge. The house itself was really unique and fun to explore. The innkeepers, Tom and Rosalind, were very nice. Tom even gave us a brief history of the bed and breakfast when we arrived. As were were celebrating my husband's birthday that weekend, I had requested a wine and cheese basket. The wine was very good and the basket was full of many different types of cheese, crackers and other snacks. I had also requested that rose petals be scattered around the room upon our arrival. Overall, our experience at the Whistling Swan Inn was very good! Tom and Rosalind were very accommodating, responding to my requests even on short notice. The breakfast was very good and the area around the inn was also fun to explore. It's a small town but there are a lot of antique stores and some pretty neat restaurants. I would definintely reccommend this place to anyone looking for a weekend away!

I googled Bed & Breakfast places in NJ and this one caught my eye. I checked it out, the rooms looked great and I read not one bad review! One of the things everyone said was out of this world is the breakfast which is great because my husband and I love food! We felt right at home and there was nothing awkward about this experience. We definitely will be going back in the Spring when it's warmer. I definetly would recommend this if you want to try a B&B!! Thanks Tom & Ros

This inn was the perfect spot for my husband and I to have a quiet winter getaway from our 1 1/2 and 3 1/2 year old. We booked the Walnut Valley suite. My husband was feeling a bit under the weather - and was able to take a nice nap (very quiet and peaceful) while I read a book in front of the fire. We went to a local restaurant for dinner - just ate at the bar and it was wonderful. Breakfast was great the next day - fruit, freshly made french toast. Inn keeper (Tom I believe was his name) was lovely and very helpful. Perfect place to catch your breath, relax and not do a thing. I think we will likely go again next winter. The only reason why I gave four instead of 5 stars is because I think some of the areas in the inn need a bit of sprucing up (paint and minor repairs). But the current inn keepers had just taken over about a month before our visit and I imagine they have plans to make some changes/updates. Would definitely recommend to friends.

We loved this place! My husband and I stayed in the tower room, and I felt like a princess! The house is full of character, and in a quiet and beautiful neighborhood. Our room was beautiful, a good combo of antique and modern styles. Loved the jacuzzi! And breakfast was incredible. We left really feeling pampered. The only complaint was that the tower room bedroom has short windows along the floor that are uncovered, making us a little nervous about peeping toms. We covered them with blankets and pillows, but I would suggest formal window coverings.

This B&B is an all-around charming place! I would highly recommend it.
3.2 on January 08, 2013
It was a nice place, but our room, the Morris Canel, had no closet..none. They did state that it was a very small room, and that was true but if you have no closet and you bring coats and clothes that need to be hung properly a stick type coat rack doesn't help. We managed and made the most of it. The Inn is clean and pretty.

My girlfriend and I decided to do something different for our 6th year anniversary. We usually do more "event-like" celebrations, i.e., Broadway shows, driving to exotic restaurants, partying in Atlantic City, etc. This year we decided to try out something low-key and relaxing and The Whistling Swan came to mind. My parents used to frequent it when I was a kid and were always very happy with their stay. While the inn now has different owners it's reputation for being a lovely, relaxing getaway is very much intact. I booked the Harmony Suite, one of the bigger rooms with a queen sized bed, 2 bathrooms(one housing a shower and the other a jacuzzi), and a faux-fireplace that gives off the perfect amount of heat. It's done in a Victorian/Japanese style which we really liked. We arrived on a Friday afternoon and spent a good amount of our time taking it easy and enjoying just being at the inn. Later that night we drove down the street to Bell's Mansion for a 5 star meal. Afterwards we returned to the inn to plan out the rest of our night. We checked out various bars/venues in the area and later that night ended up back in our room with a chilled bottle and chocolate covered strawberries that had been provided for us by the Whistling Swan. We had a wonderful night relaxing in the hot tub and spent the rest of the night either in it or the bed. The next morning we enjoyed a delicious home-cooked breakfast buffet courtesy of Rosalind. The entire staff was nothing short of kind and generous. It was a wonderful gift to the both of us this year and we will absolutely be back.

We will definitely be coming back and recommending this place to others.

My wife and I were married against all odds last week in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Rosalind made sure to call us to explain that the power had gone out in Stanhope, but that the Whistling Swan was running on limited power via a generator. She told us that this would mean we would not be able to watch cable, but the TV and DVD player worked, and while there was running hot water, we could not use the jacuzzi. We told her that was fine, as we were looking for a comfy, quiet place to spend our wedding night. My wife and I were in absolute awe of the Whistling Swan from the moment we entered its doors. Its comfy, rustic charm appealed to us immediately. When we entered our room, the High Point Suite, we were greeted by a wonderful wine and cheese basket that we had ordered, complete with sweets, and gourmet cheese from a local creamery. The bed was one of the comfiest we have ever slept in, and we had a great time watching DVDs from the Inn's video library, kept on the second floor. As for the showers, the water pressure was amazing, and the bathtub/jacuzzi was awesome even without the water jets. The electric fireplace that faced the tub was a wonderful treat as well. When we made our way downstairs, Rosalind warned us that her breakfast that morning wouldn't be her "usual fare". We weren't phased. We expected bagels, or maybe some warm cereal, which is better than some of the other hotels that my wife and I have stayed in, but instead, my wife and I were greeted by homemade waffles, sausage links, an assortment of cold cereals and granola, cheese pie, coffee, orange juice, milk, and pumpkin bread. Even as we ate, Rosalind continued to apologize for what she considered a lackluster breakfast. We can't wait to go back and see what her "usual fare" is! All in all, even without the hurricane, we couldn't have asked for a better place to spend our honeymoon night. We wish Tom and Rosalind all the best with the Whistling Swan and cannot wait for our next stay!

My wife and I were celebrating our 21st anniversary. I thought it would be great to surprise her by taking her on a romantic and quiet long weekend. We've never stayed at a Bed and Breakfast before because of my own perceptions of them. However, I really wanted to try the B&B experience and wanted my wife to have a quiet and relaxing weekend. I did some research and found the Whistling Swan Inn! And what a find it was! My wife was a little skeptical when we first pulled up to the Inn. But, as soon as we walked through the front door and met Roz, the owner along with her husband Tom, we were sold! Then Roz showed us to the room I reserved called the "Walnut Valley". My wife and I loved it! The room was beautiful and romantic! There was this instant feeling of tranquility. Each morning Roz and her husband had a wonderful and delicious breakfast prepared promptly at 8:30 for their guests. But, there was no rush to be down. Guests have until 10:00am to come down for breakfast, if they wanted to come down at all. One thing that Roz made clear to us when we arrived - she has no rules. We were so happy that our first B&B experience was at the Whistling Swan Inn. For that reason we noted it as one of our top places to go. We will definitely be going back!!!

We have never stayed at a Bed & Breakfast before. We were greated by a friendly smiling warm lady, who showed us around the house. Then to our room. After relaxing outside on the wonderful front pourch. Roz made dinner reservation at a wonderful old manson. Which that was within walking distance. After dinner again we sat on the pourch for sometime, having coffee / tea & brownies that Roz made. The night stay was very nice , quiet & comfortable. We have posted it up on my facebook page & plan on returning again. The food we ate at breakfast was very good. Do not think I have anything bad to say. Thank you to Tom & Roz for a GREAT time. The Innkeepers Roz and Tom will make you feel immediately welcomed when you come here. Roz was so great about suggestions on things to do in the area and where to have dinner, she even made our reservations for us. Our bed was comfortable, with plenty of pillows. A two person jacuzzi tub with bath salts and candles, fluffy robes, and extra towels were some of the little extras we found pleasantly surprising. This turned out to be the best choice for relaxing for a few days. Stanhope is a sleepy little town where you can sit on the wrap around porch in a rocker or hammock, stroll thru the gardens or take a ride on the free bikes the Inn provides and enjoy its peacefulness. Breakfast is not to be missed, so many choices. Blueberry pancakes, waffles, fresh fruit, bacon, Roz's breakfast pizza with sausage, tomatos and cheese. You will not go hungry here. In addition to a filling breakfast, snacks and drinks are available all day. Aside from all the wonderful things this Inn has to offer it is worth the trip just to spend time with innkeepers who genuinely enjoy their guests and take the time to make them feel comfortable and welcomed.

We were looking for a nearby weekend getaway, and I signed up based on the website. The building is a very nice Victorian home, with beautiful garden, on a quiet street in a picturesque town. The hosts were friendly and personable. Completely satisfied.

My husband and I had a lovely stay at the Whistling Swan Inn. The Innkeepers were welcoming and friendly, and quite knowledgeable about the town and surrounding area. We stayed in one of the smaller, less expensive rooms. The room was spotlessly clean, comfortable and cozy. Breakfast both mornings was quite good, with a nice variety of breakfast choices. We liked that the breakfast was served buffet style, and we could sit at our own table or on the warp-around porch. Overall, excellent value for the money.

My fiance and I arrived 30 min before the check in limit. Unfortunately when we got there, we realize that the web booking mistakenly booked us on the wrong days, but the groundskeeper was extremely understanding and accommodated us for being there in the next best room. We booked a suite and because we were there a day early and the only guests at the time, she happily offered to let us see all the rooms. We were so pleased we even asked about doing our wedding there as well. This was our first bed and breakfast and it was a warm and wonderful experience. We hope to be coming back soon, next time as Mr and Mrs.

We had a room with a very high ceiling and a fan with a long extension pole, it was swaying and making noise over our heads. The first night was too hot and second night too cold. Each night we were awakened by carbon monoxide detectors beeping, one in our room and one in the hall. There was no danger, just annoyance and a loss of sleep. The featherbed was not comfortable to us. Many other rooms to choose may have a different experience. The Jacuzzi Tub was nice but we didn't care for our steam shower. Food was great. Could not enjoy the porch furniture due to smoking. We ended up doing activities in the Poconos after deciding not to stay at a Pocono Resort which would have been better for us and less costly when other expenses were factored in. There would have been a lot to do in the area but we just didn't have the time to experience much of it.

We recommend the Whistling Swan Inn and if you are looking to just getaway from everyday life this is the place you want to visit. The new inn keeper Roz is so incredibly customer focused and she goes above and beyond to make you feel at home. My fiance and I love this B&B and we will continue to make frequent visits throughout the year! It's a must see if you are looking for a home away from home. Camille and Fedner
Thank you both so much for the lovely review as well as the recommendation to your friends. It was my pleasure having you both as my guests, and I was tickled to be one of the first people to congratulate you both on your engagement. Looking forward to seeing you soon. Ros

We stayed in one of the smallest rooms. It was cozy, but nice. We found the hostess pleasant and helpful as we planned our weekend. We had the babymoon package. It seemed a fair deal, especially compared to more pricey options at other B & Bs. The town is a great place to relax before having children.

My husband and I stayed there last weekend for a night to celebrate our anniversary. This place was extremely clean, the baked goods were delicious and the owners were a delight. For one night, we didn't want to travel too far and this turned out to be a delightful experience. I look forward to coming back in the summer or fall when there is a bit more to do (like the vineyards nearby :)

My wife and I stayed for a night at the Whistling Swann Inn. The rooms are nice and clean and we had made arrangements to come in late at night and check out later in the afternoon. We made the arrangements and got in late. We then expected to be able to check out later in the afternoon for an additional fee which was agreed upon. We were told that they would not be able to have us check out late because they made other arrangements even though we agreed on this. And then the hostess still insisted to have us pay the additional fee (even though we did not get to sign out when we agreed upon). Additionally, our hostess seemed to be rushed and more on the unfriendly side. The Whistling Swann Inn is a nice place but given the steep price and poor service, I would not recommend it.
This was an unfortunate result of miscommunication. Dr and Mrs. H requested a 2:00 pm checkout when they booked their reservation. Although my official checkout policy is 11:00 am, no fee is incurred until after 12:00 pm. Dr. and Mrs. H checked in late, and I did not see them until breakfast. In the morning, I asked them if they still required a late checkout, and they then asked for a 3:00 pm time. Given that someone was checking into the room that day, and I had an event that afternoon, I indicated that 1:00 pm was the best I could do, which I thought was a reasonable compromise to the original request of 2:00. I'm sure I did appear rushed. Dr. H entered the kitchen to continue the discussion. It was a Sunday morning, and I was trying to serve breakfast to a dining room full of guests. I'm sympathetic to the H's disappointment in not being able to enjoy the amenities of the Inn for a longer period of time. To avoid a similar situation in the future, 12:00 pm will be the latest guests can check out when there is an event, and it will be clearly communicated at the time of the booking.

We used this as a get-away evening. We checked-in at 3:00, left the room once for dinner for an hour and once for breakfast for about 25 minutes. There isn't much to do in the winter around Stanhope, but the room was so pleasant that we felt no need to find anything more to do other than relax and just enjoy some unwind time. Rosa was great, the breakfast was great, and the experience was great! I've stayed in many hotels, but this was my first B&B. I'll do a B &B again, for sure!

I was looking for a special place near Lake Hopatcong to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday. Googling the region brought the Whistling Swan Inn to my attention. We love Victorian houses and I was immediately charmed by the inn. However, we seldom have stayed in older B&B's because we want a king size bed, and most haven't had them. So I was delighted to find that several rooms here had King's. The quality of the accommodations and the renovations to the bathrooms have been done with great care and fit modern needs while preserving the graciousness and style of the Queen Ann period. Our room had a soaking tub and a fireplace- both amenities were wonderful. The owners are friendly and helpful and enjoyable to talk with.

We chanced upon the Whistling Swan Inn when we wanted to do a quick getaway, mini-honeymoon on the weekend we were married, as we wouldn't be going on our true honeymoon to St. Thomas for a while. We loved the inn, and have stood there traditionally now for 8 straight Columbus day weekends (and never desired to return to the Virgin islands, btw), and stayed for2 other times in between anniversaries, as well. We could not imagine our anniversary weekend not being spent there. Liz the innkeeper is wonderful, and we love the Victorian feel, as well as all the nice restaurants, fall foliage, and activities available in the beautiful areas near Stanhope. Highly recommended!

My husband and I stayed here on our wedding night. We called ahead to let them know we'd arrive late as it was a Friday night wedding. Upon arrival, we managed to get in. I slowly made my way up the stairs while my husband ran back to the car to get the bags. As I got to the top of the stairs, the male owner called up the stairs to me. I thanked him for the instructions on how to get in. He made a rude comment about how we should lock his house up. I realize he didn't know that my husband was still outside but I still think he could've done better at being friendly. --- The room was comfortable enough but not worth the money we paid in comparison to similar places we've stayed in. The ceiling fan rattled a lot when you put it on the high setting. It made me rather nervous. The room was very clean. --- The breakfast was excellent and the woman who cooked very amiable. --- I would recommend this to a friend but warn them that it is very pricey for what you get.

The Whistling Swan is a nice place if you are planing on escaping from the everyday rush for a couple of days. The house is tastefully decorated and Liz, the innkeeper, has really put a lot of effort in making sure that the decor is true to the era in which the house was built. The breakfasts are amazing as well as the cookies and brownies that Liz has on hand all the time in the dining room. The wrap around porch is a pleasant place to sit and have breakfast and listen to the water fountain in the beautiful garden it overlooks. There are lots of nice restaurants in the area, however, there isn't much else to do unless you want to go hiking. Again, this is a perfect place if your intention is to get away for a couple of days for a romantic weekend and do nothing but relax and enjoy some good food.

This is a great find! We were extremely happy to arrive safely there after the hurricane Irene the night before. We were greeted by Liz and enjoyed wonderful treats with the wine/cheese basket and choc covered strawberries. I thought it was really nice she had an area for snacks, homemade cookies, well stocked fridge with water and sodas and teas and coffee. The room was fantastic and we didn't need to ask for anything...b/c it was already there! Definitely going to plan another longer stay in the near future! Nancy & Paul

We stayed in the High Point Suite and it was an amazing room. With amenities like a whirlpool tub, steam shower, and Queen Size Bed, we had a fabulous time. The sink was a little on the small side, but we managed just fine. The only real issue was some fruit flies crawling on the blanket at the base of the bed. The Inn Keeper came immediately and took care of the issue. The food was great, and the complementary beverages, snacks, and DVD library were very impressive. We would definitely make a return trip, finances and time permitting...

We enjoyed our stay at this B&B. Located close to several hiking trails and a great restaurant called Bells Mansion. The town itself doesn't offer much so plan on getting in the car to do most of your activities. 35 minutes from Bushkill falls which is totally worth the trip! We enjoyed sitting sunning ourselves and napping on the side yard one day there. Very peaceful.

From the moment we walked into the Whistling Swan for the first time, we were satisfied. Not only was the service good, the room inviting and comfortable, the plumbing perfect and the food excellent, but the design and decor of the entire inn gave great aesthetic pleasure. I loved the beautiful decorating scheme of each room, as well as the swan theme that was maintained throughout the inn, in a tasteful manner.

The inn is comfortable and friendly, with nice touches like homemade cookies, coffee, water and soda always available, and a great DVD library. We were really just looking to relax so we mostly stayed at the inn, and enjoyed the quiet and our in room jacuzzi tub. We did venture out for dinner. It was a great summer night, and we were able to walk to the restaurant and enjoy dinner on their deck. Breakfast of homemade blueberry pancakes on the porch was perfect. I would highly reccomend!

My husband and I don't get away on our own very much, but wanted to do something special for our anniversary this year. I looked around online and came across the Whistling Swan, it was not too far from home and the prices were very reasonable. We booked a stay for one night and purchased the Romance Package. Liz and Bill were wonderful, we had the most fun conversing with them. We had dinner at Bell's Mansion which was also a tremendous value, I had lobster tail a shrimp pasta, my husband had the seared ahi tuna and we shared the satay trio...very good. The inn was very cozy we hung out downstairs for awhile before settling down for the night. Our room was just perfect for us and we both got a great nights rest. The morning brought Liz's amazing breakfast of blueberry crisp french toast, spinich quiche bacon and fresh coffee. We enjoyed our experience so much we hope to return again in the fall. Thanks Liz and Bill for making our stay so enjoyable!

It is still much better than motels.. but there are other bnb places way better than this. breakfast is ok with not-at-all fresh fruits. I had the same menu for 3 days except for waffle for one day and pancake for the other, like that. but same bacon, same cereal, same bad fruits, same egg pop pie... Host is kind but you barely see her. pretty much you just go there to sleep although you can hang out in the common room, but there's no tv in the common area.. you don't really get to sit with the host and other guests to talk about what's around and stuff...

We loved our stay at the Whistling Swan Inn! It was a quaint, quiet place to stay with a wonderful Innkeeper and amazing food. The room was nice and comfortable-nothing outstanding but a good room. We stayed in The Tranquility Room, where they very recently replaced the old clawfoot tub with a brand new one, which is wonderful and also works as a shower. The best part of our stay was the wraparound porch with the chairs and hammock which we enjoyed while eating fresh cookies and coffee and the breakfast, which we also enjoyed out on the porch. Great place!

We've stayed at the Whistling Swam on numerous trips over the past four years while our daughter was in college nearby. Innkeeper Liz Armstrong is always accommodating and treats us like we are visiting her home. Her breakfasts are terrific, the rooms are beautiful and the location is great. We've stayed in at least half of the rooms and all are comfortable. Liz makes you feel welcome, enjoys our company and we enjoy hers. The porch is a great place to just sit and relax with friends. A computer for guests, homemade cookies at all times, drinks and snacks make it an easy and beautiful place to stay. We'll be back even though our daughter has now graduated!

This is my first visit to Whistling Swan Inn, and I find it outstanding. All sorts of drinks - water, soft drinks, wine etc - are complimentary all day long, and the pastry/cookies included are excellent. The room is delicately decorated, the common areas are very nice and convenient, and the deck and garden are very nice. It is an excellent choice.
2.6 on May 10, 2011
We are veteran B&Bers and found Whistling Swan somewhat lacking. Our room didn't have any opening windows. The orientation of the furniture was odd and we couldn't see the TV from the bed. No nightstand or reading light on one side of the bed. One of the faucet handles was missing from the jacuzzi. We looked at all the rooms and didn't find any that were really great. Plus, it's in the middle of nowhere.
We deal with a large number of guests at the inn, and, as you can see by our other reviews, we usually do an excellent job satisfying them. We are, however, aware that sometimes a guest's expectations are not met, and we like to view an unsatisfactory stay as an opportunity to improve our overall guest experience. There are two operating windows in the High Point Suite -- the architectural windows in the turret are from 1905 and are for decoration only. This is the first time we have received a complaint about the TV. It is a large 32" flat panel TV, placed directly in front of the bed for optimal viewing. A part of the jacuzzi handle was removed because it had become a safety issue -- guests would lean on it while getting out of the tub and it would break off. The change is merely cosmetic, as the remaining part of the handle can be turned easily. We have removed the same part from the other handle to eliminate any incongruity. Though we may not be located in an urban area, there are plenty of things to do in our area, such as outdoor sports of all types, wineries, movies and live theatre, and shopping(antiquing, boutique, outlet malls, shopping malls). We also have many fine restaurants in the area, some within walking distance and NJ’s finest jazz and blues club on our street. Again, we appreciate bringing this to our attention and we look forward to your return. Thanks.

My wife and I try to get away twice a year, but don't like to spend half the weekend travelling. What a great find in the Whistling Swan - and only 45 minutes from home! It's located in a quiet residential area, but close enough to the highways and within walking distance of a great restaurant. The inn is nicely appointed and the oak fireplaces and woodwork in the foyer, parlors, and dining room are gorgeous. The inn has a great wraparound porch with plenty of seating - great for reading, snoozing, or eating Chinese takeout while overlooking the garden! The only disappointment was the size of our room (the Morris Canal). Not terrible, but it turns out that it is the smallest room at the inn - we learned this when the innkeeper let us view the vacated rooms before we left on Sunday. The rest of the rooms are amazing, even those on the third floor were surprisingly roomy and very interesting. We will definitely be returning to TWS in the future for another romantic getaway. -C&P

My daughter and I had a college tour scheduled for the Hackettstown area - we did not want to stay at a hotel. Bed and Breakfast stays are always much nicer. We stayed at the Whistling Swan Inn and immediately fell in love with the place. It was decorated in Victorian style, the innkeeper was so friendly, the room was clean and very beautiful. The bed was so comfortable! The breakfast was delicious. All in all I highly recommend the Whistling Swan Inn.

Our stay at the Whistling Swan Inn in Stanhope, NJ was absolutely lovely. My husband has a gluten/wheat allergy which makes our desire to stay at unknown places very unlikely. Ms. Armstrong guaranteed that she could make a breakfast especially for him. The best part was that Michael even received homemade gluten-free cookies upon our arrival. What a special touch. We enjoyed staying in the nice quiet part of the house. Taking time to enjoy some rest and relaxation was exactly what we needed. I especially enjoyed being able to take a relaxing bath in the footed tub. Thanks for an enjoyable evening away.

Our anniversary is in March, so the weather is always questionable.... but, Thunder-Snow? Couldn't have thought of a better place to ride out the storm (the homemade chocolate chip cookies helped)! Can't wait to return next year for our annual anniversary get-away!

Buffet breakfast is the way to go with a B&B so you don't have to wake up at a particular time.

Good: Rocking chairs on the porch, room & bath were beautiful, bed comfy. Nice touches: free wi-fi & computer in common parlor, in-room fridge & fireplace, bev. station w/ice, snacks, & Keurig, sherry & newspaper. avail. 24 hours. Bell's Mansion-close, w/ good/uneven service/food & BAD singer. GREAT music at Stanhope House. Dinner & GOOD singer-Salt-Byram; good lunch-Krave-Newton. Good antiquing-Blue Heron-Stanhope, Scranberry Coop & other stores-Andover. Not So Good: Every stay has glitches, yet more than a few together, added up. An e-mail re: nearby restaurant answered w/o an offer to make reservation or if we’d need one. The site mentions they do this, but opportunity to accept or turn down offer never came. We’d mentioned celebrating 2 special occasions in our reservation (granted, w/out requesting anything be done) but it was never even mentioned during stay. In-room fridge not plugged in (discovered after leftovers were warm next day). Dim bedside lamp was fixed by handing us a different bulb. TV cables for the DVD player were wired incorrectly, the room’s handmade “Do Not Disturb” sign was broken so we couldn’t hang it, the bathroom window was left open after the room cleaning & fluffy robes mentioned on the site for each room were nowhere to be found. Fireplace in the common room was never utilized (nor offered, though it was about 26 degrees & snowing). The address of a restaurant in their guide was incorrect – they’d moved & the info hadn’t been updated. We spent 20 mins. looking & had to ask a Sheriff for directions. When we brought this to the Innkeeper’s attention, it wasn’t acknowledged. Main seating for the first day’s breakfast was unavailable; we took plastic ware & small plates into another room to fend for ourselves. The Innkeeper found us after a few minutes & we were given a hot breakfast, still in the other room. Overall, Innkeepers were polite & cordial, yet we never experienced the "warm & fuzzy" vibe we’ve had at other B&B's.

We were looking for a quiet place to stay for the weekend. When we arrived, the innkeeper, Liz warmly greeted us. We are b and b ers and travel about to different inns. Whistling Swan is the best we've experience. There are so many little extras, for example a fully stocked snack bar, a computer, a video library and large comfortable sitting rooms!! Plus the breakfast was A-1!!!!

My Husband and I stayed here for three nites and boy , it was quiet , just what we wanted ....Everyone was friendly and breakfast was great ... Liz is a great cook..Her husband provided lively conversation at the table along with a few laughs.. Unfornately we had to leave early due to our son being sick and they had no problems charging us for only the time we spent with no questions asked .. Will definetly stay here again - Noreen and John Vitolo

While Stanhope isn't a dream vacation spot, this house sure is! It really is beautiful. My wife and I stayed in the High Point room... a two-room suite with a jacuzzi tub and a separate steam shower. The fireplace in the jacuzzi area wasn't working so they took $20 off the rate, which I thought was very nice. Great hosts, spotless house, nice breakfast... super gettaway.

...everything was great, the room, the common areas, the food and the service. Innkeeper Liz was very nice and interesting to chat with. The only issue I had all weekend was the room lighting, all bright, no soft lighting. If that's my only complaint, it must have been pretty good!

I'm so happy that I found this inn! There were so many positives to our stay. The hospitality was beyond 5 star, especially breakfast! The housekeeper is an amazing cook. We stayed in the Walnut Valley Suite and the room was what we though it would be and more. The location is great as well because it's central to alot of towns that have a great variety of things to do. In this day and age it's great to find a place that cares alot about the small stuff. I can't recommend this inn enough!

My husband and I have stayed at the Whistling Swan twice now - most recently, over Christmas 2010. It is such a beautiful old home, and the Christmas decorations were lovely! The breakfasts are superb - a real treat! Everyone is so friendly and makes you feel welcomed and totally "at home." We can't wait to come back and stay there again!! Thank you for the great hospitality!!

Our anniversary and my wife's birthday fall in December so we went in the cold. The room was impeccably clean, cozy, and comfortable. The night at the Whistling Swan was very relaxing for us. The innkeeper was friendly and made us feel at home. My wife and I enjoyed reading the notes in the book in the room from previous guests. We look forward to spending another night at the Whistling Swan during warmer weather.

The Whistling Swan Inn in Stanhope, New Jersey is a beautiful Victorian inn in a picturesque setting. Replete with stunning turn of the century antiques, this mansion boasts modern bathrooms with state-of-the-art fixtures. The sitting room and dining room are beautifully decorated and feature stained glass windows. The professional, friendly staff goes out of their way to make you feel at home and serves up delicious breakfasts that should be featured on the Rachel Ray Show! We'll be staying here again, for sure! Maybe the finest B&B experience I've ever had! -- Bill Coughlin - Hoboken, NJ

I went this past weekend just as a semi-romantic get away with my girlfriend and added the honeymoon package, which comes with wine, roses, choc covered strawberries etc. I had a request instead of roses to try and get an edible arrangement for me. No problem to difficult for them, they had everything ready for us at our 3pm check-in. The breakfast was amazing plenty of choices. The innkeepers are very sweet reminds me of back home in the south. Will return here highly recommended.

We took the High Point Suite for just one night, as we needed a getaway. I got the romantic package, which was a good deal because of the Dinner gift certificate. I was a little disappointed with the champagne bottle we got. The room was fantastic, though.

We didn't know what to expect when we drove up to the B&B despite the review we read in the "Select Registry" book. It turned out to be a lovely inn (even though we are not big fans of victorian buildings) with a beautiful garden and porch and very comfortable rooms with great beds and pillows that exceeded those in comfort that we have found in much more expensive inns and B&Bs. The owner, Liz, is a very good host. If you are the Stanhope area we highly recommend the Whistling Swan Inn.

My husband and I wanted to celebrate our wedding aniversary in a quite setting away from NYC, and the Whistling Swan Inn, was a perfect place to relax. The Inn is charming, the breakfast was delicious the innkeepers were on vacation and the Temp Innkeepers Rosie and John were great and made us feel comfortable. The room we stayed in the Lenape was very clean the bathroom big and nice, the bed very comfortable. The only thing that was a little uncomfortable was the celing it had a low slope and evertime you moved around the room you would bang your head it was the last room available at the time still happy I visited. I would definitely go back and try another room and meet Liz Armstrong.

The innkeeper was on vacation during our stay. I think we would have been given more information on the area and what to do if she had been there. Also, we think we would have received a little more attention if she had been there. The couple watching the inn were very nice, but didn't know the area very well and didn't engage in much conversation.

A friend of ours recommended the Whistling Swan Inn to us. It was one of the best B&B's that we've stayed in. Our room, The Walnut Suite was absolutely beautiful and very romantic. Our breakfasts were scrumptuous- the first morning we had fresh blueberry french toast (not made with bread) with real maple syrup, the second morning was a delicious quiche, and, our third morning was made to order pancakes- I had my favorite, blueberry pancakes and my husband had plain pancakes- served with the real maple syrup. Snacks in the afternoon were terrific- crisp, fresh chocolate chip cookies, and, blueberry crumb bars. The innkeeper, Liz Armstrong was extremely helpful in advising places to visit - an indoor antique mall, park with an easy walking trail, and, the Lakota Wolf Preserve. We had a wonderful time. We also walked on the boardwalk in Sparta, only about 20 minutes away. Liz, also, suggested places for dinner, and took care of our reservations. The inn was an absolutely terrific place to spend our 45th wedding anniversary. We will definitely recommend the Whistling Swan Inn and are looking forward to returning there. Gave my husband a weekend getaway for Christmas, and used it now at Whistling Swan Inn (7/17-7/18/2010). What a beautiful, quaint, romantic, comfortable place to stay. We stayed at the High Point Suite, pictured on this site. The Jacuzzi was most relaxing, the robes were soft and comfortable, and the room was just gorgeous! But in addition to all the personal touches and attention to detail, the Innkeeper, Liz and her husband Bill were super great! The breakfast was delicious, we enjoyed it out on the wrap-around porch, and it just added to the excitement! The staff was very helpful, and courteous. Thanks Heide for welcoming us and telling us what we could do while we were there! A beautiful Inn that we certainly want to return to. Arelys & Gonzalo

My daughter and I stayed at the WS for a weekend and loved it! The first night we stayed in the Waterloo Village room. It was wonderful! The second night we stayed in the Tranquility room, which was much smaller, but still very nice. Also loved the location of the Inn, within walking distance of excellent dining and antique shops.

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Highpoint Suite and loved it! We wanted to have a nice quiet weekend getaway and this place was ideal for that. The Inn Keeper (Liz) was extremely accomodating and resourceful - actually she's wonderful!! We mentioned at breakfast that we wanted to try out a local water park and before we were finished eating, she came back with a print out of the location and other info on the park. Whatever you do...don't miss breakfast! it's a delicious way to start any day at the Inn - be sure to try the blueberry french toast! We liked the fact that when we got in from spending the day out that there were all sorts of tasty treats left out for us by Liz. Be sure to take time to sitting in the rocking chairs on the veranda or take a stroll up the block to Bell's Mansion for lunch or dinner (staff is great and food is delicious). We absolutely loved this place and plan on going back!

As I write this I am sitting in a most comfortable rocking chair, enjoying a hot cup of freshly brewed coffee on a beautiful wrap arround porch. My wife and I had the pleasure of staying in the Morris Canal room, to celebrate our third anniversary. The service is as most have said, impeccable yet not invasive. It feels more like a home and less like a hotel. Highly recommend this to anyone needing a break from the over-stimulus of modern life. Will definitely be back, hopefully before our fourth anniversary! -John & Samantha

We stayed in the Walnut Valley Suite which was a beautiful room. It included his and hers bathrooms, a jacuzzi tub and fireplace. Our only regret was that it wasn't warmer when we were there so we could have eaten our breakfast on the beautiful wrap around porch. The nearby Bell's Mansion was recommend by our hosts for dinner. It was another beautiful old home within walking distance where we had a wonderful dinner. I would highly recommend both places.

This was a beautiful inn in Stanhope, NJ. We stayed on the third floor in the High Pointe suite which was quiet, nicely decorated and had a nice-sized jacuzzi. Breakfast was delicious. We didn't do much in Stanhope itself but used the inn as our base to go hiking and rock scrambling in the nearby state parks and the Delaware Water Gap. The hosts were VERY helpful in planning our days and evenings.

This place was great. My nephew got married at the Inn the last friday in August. It rained that whole day but the Sun shined bright on the lovely couple that day. We had the wedding on the porch and everyone was all smile. It was a sight to behold. His brother made the special trip from California to be present at this affair. Easily accessible snack area with complimentary chips, cookies, water and soft drinks? Check. Spacious, clean, comfortable room with all of the amenities I could ask for? Check. A good, satisfying breakfast? Check. Significantly nicer, more relaxing, and more comfortable than a typical hotel for not much more $? Check. Roughly an hour away from Brooklyn? Check. I like this place. Highly recommended.

Family converged from all over the country for a family event in West Orange, several of us settling in at The Whistling Swan. We all found it to be worthy of it being called "one of the 10 best B & B's in the country." All rooms were cozy, impeccably clean and each unique. The breakfasts were wonderful and our interim innkeepers went out of their way to insure our stay would be memorable: our first night we all arrived at varying times and they opened the dining room for us all to eat take out; helped our "guests" feel welcome while we sat in the front parlour catching up; made it feel like home with a glass of sherry by the fireplace on a windy night before heading to bed. We've all decided this was not to be our last visit to the Whistling Swan.

It was my husband's birthday, and we needed a get-a-way from our busy lives. This is the first weekend we've every spent away from our daughter, let alone at a B&B. We liked it so much (going away AND staying at a b&b) that I think we've just started a new hobby! We stayed in the Walnut Valley Suite, which was very luxurious and decadent-yet warm and cozy, too. We enjoyed the romance that the room inspires, nibbled on Liz's chocolate covered strawberries, sipped our chilled champagne, settled in front of the fire with our books, bathed in the whirlpool tub several times a day, took a walk to the bookstore and enjoyed the quiet. We initially came for valentine package that included a Kathy Philips Band performance and gourmet dinner, but our experience was so wonderful I think we'll come again with or without a package special! The highlight of our day, every day, was breakfast. Liz is a fabulous cook. Simply delicious. Also, the valentine special was such a DEAL! It was $55 per person and the meal was a gourmet 4 course dinner made by Liz. We were in heaven!! And we didn't have to drive to a restaurant to get there! All of this in the Whistling Swan parlor. We dined on friday night at a local French restaurant called Silver Springs Farm. Very charming and romantic, and the venison was exquisite! The service was superb. When the waitress found out it was my husband's birthday, she brought out a little dessert with a lit candle and a small gift for each of us. It was quite reasonable, even with the award-winning wine Jacqueline (the owner) recommended. It was perfect! Last of all, I just want to thank Bill and Liz for our wonderful weekend. It was nice talking with Bill. He is so nice and friendly and warm! Liz was a superb hostess. She provided anything we needed, cooked exquisite meals, and let us enjoy our time alone. We will definitely come back!

I think Spring or Fall would be a wonderful time to enjoy all the scenery and activities at the nearby locations. Patty & Nate

The room was good and the inn beautiful, but what was it with the breakfast? You could do much better at McDonald's!-change the name to Bed-No Breakfast!
Although the Whistling Swan has received 100's of great reviews from our guests indicating their stay exceeded their expectations I am saddened that the guest who wrote this review was unhappy about our breakfast. Guests rave about my homemade breakfasts. They are prepared fresh each morning and include a hot entrée, side dish such as bacon, sausage, or home fries, fruit dish, two different fresh baked sweet breads, homemade granola, etc. Guests often tell me that they use my recipes from my cookbook for their own brunches. If you had let me know about your unhappiness I would have tried to make it right and perhaps have comped you the night. Although I know it may be impossible to make some guests happy that is my mission because that's what Innkeepers do.

My partner and I stayed in the High Point Suite for 2 nights to celebrate my birthday. It was truly the most relaxed we've been in years. I've only stayed in a few B&Bs, so I'm still getting used to the differences between hotels and B&Bs. The High Point Suite has a quirky set up but is truly cozy and romantic. We thoroughly enjoyed the tub and the fireplace. The bed was super comfy and the ceiling in the bedroom was so beautiful to look at. The steam shower was an added plus! Since it's a bit into the off season, there were very few guests there and we got to peek into most of the other rooms. All quaint, all beautiful. We've already decided we'll be trying the Walnut Valley Suite next time! True - the old fashioned skeleton key for our room was a bit difficult to use. I think maybe the lock in the door might be a little loose. However, there is a certain charm that goes along with using a skeleton key! Breakfasts were super yummy. One morning we had some sort of caramel french toast casserole (I know that's not the right name, Liz! Sorry!) which was beyond delicious. The next morning we had a broccoli and cheese quiche. Very tasty, very cheesey! The cookie jar always had nummy chocolate chip cookies to munch on and the fridge downstairs was always stocked with soda and water. Easy access to the computer made deciding where to go for dinner a snap. We went to Barone's (truly fine food!) and Black Forest Inn (great seafood buffet). Barone's had fantastic desserts - a must "take back to the room" to eat after soaking in the huge tub! Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay at this Inn and are looking forward to going back again sometime this winter. Thanks, Liz and Bill! Terrific job on all you do to make your guests comfy and cozy.

WE loved our visit to Netcong, NJ and the Whistling Swan! Our room was quaint and comfortable, with all of the amenities and 'necessities' of a regular hotel- and much more besides! The decor and antiques were delightful; the innkeepers were warm, welcoming, and helpful. the home-made breakfasts every morning were absolutely delicious! We can;t wait to schedule our next visit!!

From the rope hammock to the terry robes, from the tastefully decorated room, to the tasty chocolate covered strawberries, from the bubbly spa to the bubbly champaign! It was a very relaxing, comfortable, peaceful and memorable weekend!

This was my first stay at a B&B and I am hooked! Liz and Alice were so friendly and accomodating. The inn is a showplace - rooms with names and a lovely Victorian garden. I especially loved the old world charm and the modern conveniences offered (the TVs have embroidered covers with noise reminders). Can't wait to book another B&B.

We just got back from a long weekend at The Whistling Swan Inn for our 4h wedding anniversary. The inn is beautiful and Liz and her staff could not have made us feel more welcome. Breakfast on the beautiful wrap around porch was so relaxing and her food was wonderful. My husband couldn't get over the brownies that were put out one afternoon. The location is perfect as you are in the middle of breathtaking state parks and quaint towns. I can't wait to go back.

My wife and I do not frequent B&Bs, but we felt that this one exceeded the standards of many hotels in which we have stayed. The place is SPOTLESS, literally. Every detail is attended to by the innkeeper. It is extremely impressive to see that they noticed everything. The inn even lends out bicycles to ride in the area. In summary, we highly recommend this great place.

We recently stayed at the Whistling Swan Inn, Stanhope. We were on a bicycle trip from High Point, NJ to Cape May and selected the inn becuase of it's location on our route. We pulled in after traveling 15 miles in torrential rain and were warmly greeted by the innkeeper! She made us feel so welcome and she accomodated us and our bicycles and wet supplies. The room was beautiful and the inn was very clean and well kept. We had all of the comforts of home and can not say enough good things about this inn. This was the first B&B that we stayed at on our 8 day trip and we didn't realize how good we had it. Thanks Liz and Bill - you're the best.

My husband and I have been enjoying our Get-away weekends for several years now at the Whistling Swan! We love every minute of our stay, starting with the marvelous homemade breakfasts, the chocolate dipped strawberries, which are the best, the comfortable beds, whirlpool tubs or a dual head shower....every detail is well thought out. You must try the Murder Mystery Weekend and have a wonderful dinner as well as breakfast. It is truly a night to remember, being part of the play and attempting to discover who the killed "Sir Hugo." We love the B&B and Liz is a great hostess and has become a friend as she always makes us feel at home.

I'm a seasoned and picky traveller, but this B&B exceeded every expectation. The rooms are fantastic and clean. The house is beautiful. The service is great with tremendous attention to detail; and, the breakfast cooking is nothing short of world-class. Even though the house is in the middle of town, the community is very quiet, safe and peaceful. I highly recommend this place.

June 2008 We stayed at the WSI and had the “Tranquility Room”. The room is located on the 3rd floor, and is in a very quiet area of the house. It is small, but the antique décor was beautiful. The bed was very comfortable. The TV worked and the stain glass in the room was beautiful when the sun shone through. The décor of the B&B was truly breathtaking as were the other rooms. Liz, the innkeeper was not there that weekend, but Alice and John were and they went out of there way to make our stay beautiful. The hospitality, cordialness and friendliness that they showed us and other guests were truly outstanding and rewarding. After spending the weekend there, I felt as if I made some true friends for life. Breakfast. Each day was a different menu and they had plenty of coffee. Breakfast consisted of some specialty dishes, muffins, breads, English muffins, fresh fruit, juice, etc. All the food was homemade and fresh. Now they also have a cookie jar in the living room and let me tell you those cookies were great. a/k/a the “endless cookie jar”. In addition, you can have breakfast inside sitting with other guests or you can go outside and have a private breakfast for two. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing, romantic and truly remarkable stay, please visit the Whistling Swan Inn, you will not be disappointed. In fact, we plan to go back in September.

We have stayed at this inn at least a dozen times in the last several years. Liz provides the best service and hospitality! The rooms are immaculate and the homemade breakfast is delicious. We have found the inn to be our home away from home, when we have visited throughout the four seasons. A truly romantic getaway!

I've been a frequent visitor to upstate New Jersey and stayed in most of the chain hotels in the area. Thanks to bedandbreakfast.com, I found this gem of a place. Liz is an outstanding hostess and makes every effort to create a warm, welcoming, and pleasant inn. What a nice change of pace to have comfortable beds in rooms that are tastefully appointed with period antiques! After a long drive, it's nice to check in to the Whistling Swan, relax with a nice glass of sherry in the Victorian lounge, and feel "at home". Breakfasts are well prepared with offerings of herbed scrambled eggs or homemade buttermilk pancakes, breakfast meats, homebaked muffins and breads, fresh fruit, and pleasant conversations with other guests. While I've only had the chance to visit during the fall and winter seasons, the outside grounds look beautifully landscaped. I plan on returning again in the spring to see how the property looks in full bloom. In the meantime, do yourself a favor and book a weekend at the Whistling Swan Inn; she's as stately and serene as her name sounds.
