A Warm and Welcoming Getaway!

4.8 on October 13, 2017

David and Justine went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable and memorable. The outstanding breakfast alone is reason to stay at Smythe House, but the cozy room and beautiful property far exceeded our expectations. We will definitely be back!

Innkeeper Response
We are delighted to know your experience at Smythe House in the Catskills was memorable and exceeded your expectations. Thank you for your kind comments and we look forward to your return visit sometime in the future. We are here at Barclay Heights B&B in the Hudson Valley in New York from mid-May through the beginning of November each year. And from December through April each year guests can also join for a tropical adventure on the Pacific Coast at Casa Bellavista in beautiful Costa Rica at our new Blue Zone Bed & Breakfast. Pura Vida!

Our best weekend escape ever!

5 on July 19, 2017

My wife & I spent the whole weekend at the Smythe House and it was the best experience and the most relaxing getaway. Our hosts Justine & David were amazing. Their attention to details is felt throughout the B&B, their warm service is very inviting and pleasant, and the culinary experience they gave us each morning was memorable! Furthermore, we met fascinating guests during our morning brunch and are staying in touch with them. We will definitely come back and indulge some more!!!!!!!!

Innkeeper Response
It is a pleasure and an honor to share our Victorian home with guests, the house becomes a home when filled with travelers enjoying the adventures in the Hudson Valley. Thank you for letting us know you were satisfied with your stay!!

This was my first time staying here and this was my girlfriend's first experience at a bed and breakfast. I planned a surprise getaway and after much research I settled on this B&B. I definitely made the right choice. I have stayed at a few B&B's both in the U.S and internationally and I have to say this was the best one yet. The facilities were immaculate and the caretakers treated you like part of the family. I had corresponded with the owners for about 2-3 weeks before my arrival to ensure everything was set up. They were able to accommodate all of my requests and did so in a pleasant manner. The owners are both chefs so the breakfast was fantastic. My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time and this place will hold fond memories for both of us. They also have a location in Costa Rica that we plan to check out in the future.

Innkeeper Response
So grateful to hear of your enjoyable experience at Smythe House, it warms our hearts to know you have a lovely getaway. Wishing you an excellent summer and looking forward to meeting you again in Costa Rica at Casa Bellavista during the winter months so you can enjoy some Pura Vida!

Lovely Experience!

My girlfriend and I stayed there for two nights in the Violet Room and just had an amazing experience. I cannot say enough about the outstanding service and hospitality from the owners. We will be back in the fall and possibly schedule a trip to Costa Rica to experience their B&B service there.

Innkeeper Response
glad you enjoyed the Violet Room, and looking forward to seeing you in Costa Rica at our lovely Casa Bellavista.

My absolutely favorite place of all time.

5 on June 21, 2017

As a professional horse trainer, I travel from April- September throughout New England competing- and living out of a hotel becomes something you start to dread. But that is SO not the case with the Barclays Heights B&B!! I actually started looking forward to coming to the HITS shows, which is the most stressful fairgrounds on our dancing-prey-animal dumbbloods, because it meant we got to stay at this wonderful oasis! The gourmet breakfasts alone are worth the stay, but the lodging is super comfortable, and the rooms are all well thought out and lovely. Also the owners are some of the nicest people you will ever meet, and make you feel right at home! They also are dog friendly which is lovely too :) I can not say enough good things about this place!!

Innkeeper Response
Thank you for your kind review, we are grateful to hear that the Smythe House is a comfortable, safe and relaxing place for your to stay while showing at HITS. Our primary goal is to offer comfortable, clean accommodations and healthy delicious breakfast for our guests. It is rewarding to know that we may be achieving our goals. We love dog guests and delight in meeting our canine clients. Thanks again for sharing your experience here! Looking forward to your return stay...

The best B&B ever!

5 on May 30, 2017

Justine and David went out of their way to please us and filled us with attention. David food was just amazing! His love for cooking is in every single bite we put in our mouths that were melting in every bite. The rooms were impeccable and really cozy. This is a B&B to remember for ever!

Innkeeper Response
Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us at Smythe House. We are blushing at our generous flattery....we will continue to strive to do our best and offer the best experience possible for guests. David's 30 years as culinary professor at the Culinary Institute of America and Justine's hotel and restaurant experience including MBA from Cornell Hotel School help us to do our best to keep our priorities in order and always try to do our very best in regards to guest comfort....glad to hear our efforts are appreciated, that is the best reward we can think of....now we have just opened our new B&B in Costa Rica and begin the journey again of starting a new business. Find us in NY mid-May through mid-November and then come visit us in sunny Costa Rica mid-November through April for a tropical getaway in reliable safe and comfortable accommodations....see you soon!!

Lovely Bed & Breakfast - Perfect Weekend Getaway

5 on January 25, 2017

We visited the Smythe house for a quick one night getaway from NYC and had a very lovely time. The rooms, food and service were outstanding. We enjoyed getting tips on places to visit and the location was great. I'd recommend it to anyone that's going up to the Hudson River Valley to hike or go wine tasting.

Innkeeper Response
Outstanding Hospitality is our motto and our goal, so glad to hear we have satisfactorily served you during your brief stay at Smythe House. Thanks for sharing here so others can better decide where to stay during their getaway to the country.

Excellent stay in saugerties

5 on November 20, 2016

I called the Smythe house last minutes to find a place in saugerties and a last minute plan turned into a wonderful weekend. The hosts are extremely pleasant and have everything planned out for a magnificent stay. Very professional and a joy to spend time with. The hosts are clearly very happy people and their joy/ happiness pervades the entire experience. We even left a scarf in the room and the hosts graciously sent it to us. Must stay.

Innkeeper Response
