cold Christmas Holiday

4.6 on January 01, 2018

People are VERY friendly and accommodations very nice with period antiques. Close to beach and mall.

Nicest stay - will definitely stay here again!

4.6 on October 15, 2017

Our room was immaculately clean, spacious ( featuring a double plus a queen bed) and best of all a private second-floor porch. The attention to detail by our gracious innkeepers was amazing. Breakfast was delicious each morning. The location is great for beach-goers and shoppers alike. Newcomers to Cape May will appreciate the helpful advice for dining options .

Our first B&B experience. It was the absolute best!!

5 on September 04, 2017

Beautiful place to stay, clean and friendly atmosphere. The food was great and also loved that it was close to the beach and shopping. I would definitely go back!

Love the Gingerbread House

4.8 on August 16, 2017

The Gingerbread House owners, Fred and Joan, were amazing, wonderful people. They make you feel like part of the family. Their staff were super friendly and helpful as well. They provide beach chairs and towels. This is very close to the beach, shops, and restaurants. This is a lovely, clean, & friendly place to stay in the heart of Cape May!

Perfect Location in Cape May

The Gingerbread House is a lovely place to stay in Cape May. Fred and Joan are the best and will make you feel at home there. Best location to the beach and downtown. Would definitely recommend for future visits!

A Cape May treat!

5 on June 25, 2017

We loved our stay at the Gingerbread Inn in Cape May NJ! The place was just lovely and its hosts were wonderful.Breakfast each day was a treat and there were treats/tea/coffee available all day plus just a walk down the street to the beach. (Also, did I mention how clean it was!)

Absolutely beautiful, spotless and so clean!

4.2 on June 14, 2017

We've stayed at numerous B&B's, and this was the cleanest I've ever seen! Had everything we needed. The owners went above and beyond, to make sure we were comfortable. Highly recommend!

Visit to Cape May

4.2 on June 05, 2017

We recently stayed at the Gingerbread House for 1 night. The service was the best. We got into our room by 1:30 and we were pleased with the room, albeit it small. There were snacks and coffee out all the time, but I had to ask for ice water, which was promptly put out. We were given many suggestions for dinner, and enjoyed a delicious dinner at Oyster Bay. The house is very close to town and less than a block from the beach, and we were lent season pins/passes for the beach, as a pass is required. They even have beach chairs available for each room. Joan put out a continental breakfast, as we were leaving before the hot breakfast would be served. A delicious coffee cake, granola, yogurt and fresh fruit were available, along with juice and a Keurig for coffee. Parking was free, however we had to park two streets away.

Beautiful home with welcoming host and a delicious breakfast

4.8 on January 05, 2017

We spent two nights during Christmas at the Gingerbread house and had a restful and enjoyable stay. The house is beautifully renovated inside. The suite we were in accommodates up to four guests with it's own bath and porch that can't be beat. Joan, the owner is sweetheart and cooks up a mean breakfast every morning. The house is also conveniently located two blocks from the Mall and main attractions. We can't wait to go back in the Summer to enjoy the beach as well.

Nice Visit, Great Location

3.8 on January 05, 2017

My husband and I visit Cape May twice a year and stay at bed and breakfasts during the winter visit. The Gingerbread House is in a perfect location. The room is extremely clean. We stayed in room #3, which was a bit small. There was a flat screen TV, however it was very far from the bed, so it was a bit hard to see. Breakfasts were great, the only complaint is the time breakfast is served, which is around 9:15am-9:30am. For two people used to getting up at 5am, this was very late, even when sleeping in until 8am. Coffee was put out in the morning, however one morning my husband took used the Keurig to make a to go cup. We found it odd the Keurig cups were all put away the next morning, almost as if we should not have made a cup the morning before. Innkeepers are very nice and cordial. Overall a great stay, but we will still explore other bed and breakfasts because we like trying different ones.

Everyone Should Stay Here

Beautiful Home, Great Hosts

4.4 on October 20, 2016

This was our first stay at Gingerbread House, and it likely won't be our last. Owners Fred and Joan provide a warm, welcoming environment for their guests...right down to the gourmet breakfast. The location is perfect, with a short walk to the beach and mall. Stay with confidence, you won't be disappointed!

You won't go wrong here!

4.4 on August 31, 2016

Joan and Fred are delightful and accommodating hosts who run a first-class bed and breakfast just a couple hundred feet from the beach! I've stayed with them many times, and hope to join them for many more years. Rooms are clean, nicely decorated, and spacious. Breakfast is divine. My one suggestion would be that they offer bikes, as other bed and breakfasts seem to do this.

5 on August 17, 2016

This property is beautifully kept. It has a very warm feel. Super clean. I stayed on the top floor in a very comfortable room. I loved that they had beach chairs and an enclosed outdoor shower. I would most definitely stay there again.

Amazing Bed n Breakfast

5 on July 05, 2016

We stayed at the Gingerbread House in June and absolutely loved the accommodations. Our room was very clean and we had our own porch. Joan and Fred were great hosts and make you feel right at home. Their staff was equally warm and friendly. The beach and restaurants are all within walking distance, great location. Joan's breakfasts were delicious, especially those ricotta pancakes. We will definitely be returning to the Gingerbread House.

4.8 on May 27, 2016

I have stayed in many bed and breakfasts and this was one of the best! An immaculate and beautiful b and b 2 blocks from the beach.Fred and Joan happily greeted me and gave me info about Cape May. Light music played in the living room where fresh baked treats were always available. Breakfast was substantial and delicious. I had a perfect stay!

Beautiful place in a good location

4.6 on May 18, 2016

Our stay at Gingerbread House was very pleasent. The house is beautiful, the rooms are luxury and very comfortable. For one day in beautiful Cape May this house is the perfect location for walking to the beach and town center and to explore the environment. Joans breakfast was fantastic, there are several different courses and always something different every day including fresh juice, homemade cereal and cake, fruit and joghurt. We very much enjoyed our short stay and would like to come back some day.

Great Choice in a Superb Location

4.8 on December 16, 2015

Fred and Joan - and their assistant McKinley - are great and knowledgeable hosts. The inn is meticulously restored and decorated (beautifully for the holidays), the rooms are clean and well-maintained, and you have all the amenities you could ask for. The location is the perfect balance between the beach (just a block away) and the main part of town (a few short blocks to restaurants and shops). Breakfast was delicious and plentiful, snacks were always available, and it's unlucky for us we had just one night there. We miss Cape life. You can't go wrong with the Gingerbread House.

Step back in time

5 on October 25, 2015

Step back in time at the beautifully restored Gingerbread House in Cape May, NJ. Originally built in 1869. The rooms are pristine, comfortable and relaxing. It is within walking distance of many of the finest restaurants that Cape May has to offer and historical sites in Cape May. The atmosphere at the morning meal was warm and friendly as the host and hostess Fred & Joan went beyond expectations to make our stay more pleasant then we could have imagined. We have recommended it to our family members. We look forward to returning. The only comparison that I can make would be visiting relatives that you really like. I can't praise my experience enough.

Terrific stay in Cape May, NJ

5 on October 23, 2015

Joan and Fred are extremely friendly and go out of their way to make your stay memorable. The accommodations were clean and comfortable and Joan will satisfy your breakfast cravings. You can park your car and walk to most restuarants and shopping and the beach is just down the street. Stayed October 2015

My wife and I found the Gingerbread House an excellent place not just stay but to feel the warm friendliness, relaxing environment, great breakfast, conversation and closeness and being within walking distance to local eateries and other interesting shops. We are looking forward to next years stay at the Gingerbread House. Jeff & nancy Swanger, 220 Stonehedge Lane, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055

Excellent B&B in Great location in Cape May

4.8 on September 15, 2014

Fantastic hosts, breakfast, room, location, amenities, snacks. We loved it! These folks went out of their way to make us comfortable and to help guide us as we visited Cape May for the first time. We were very lucky to have a room available as our plans were last minute. Someone happened to cancel and we were able to stay. We really enjoyed it at the Gingerbread House and will plan to stay there next visit to Cape May

Perfect experience, start to fiish. Personalized booking, greeting, great accomodations/atmosphere and stay. Gingerbread is in a great location to beach, restaurants and shops. Fred and Joan know what they are doing. Will be back.

Great place! Block from the beach!

4.4 on July 17, 2014

My husband and I had a wonderful time at the Gingerbread House. The innkeepers Joan and Fred are lovely people and genuinely care about your comfort in their home. The service was great, the food was delicious, and their porch is so relaxing. We will definitely return.

Perfect B&B

5 on July 03, 2014

This has to be one of the nicest B&Bs we've stayed at! Our hosts Joan and Fred were fantastic, the food was exceptional, the location could not be better, and the house and property was in pristine condition ! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !

1/2 Block from Beach

3.8 on July 02, 2014

Perfectly, located 1/2 a block away from the beach and close to all the stores on Beach Ave, this is a great deal! The staff are all very nice, helpful, and attentive. The house is very nicely kept, rooms are clean, and there is always coffee, tea and snacks available. There's a bike rack in the back, beach chairs and towels are available, and there's even an outdoor shower. There's a nice selection of cold breakfast items available but the hot breakfast was just OK, not bad, just not really good. Overall, it's a great place and I wouldn't hesitate to come back.

Perfect Location & Great Hospitality

5 on June 12, 2014

The Gingerbread house is located right in the middle of everything; beach, restaurants, shopping, etc. Fred & Joan were great hosts and every morning a delicious hot meal was served along with other cold options. We were also able to keep our bikes right out back on their bike rack. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. We will definitely be back!

Great place for a Cape May newcomer

4.6 on May 30, 2014

The Gingerbread House is centrally located to the boardwalk, restaurants, and attractions. The comprehensive file of restaurant menus was a welcome convenience. Breakfast was a two-part feast. We enjoyed talking to Fred about his renovation work, greatly admired his mother's water colors and the antique furniture. Joan shared further information about the house and offered us tasty home-baked treats. The room was beautifully decorated, with sufficient reading lights and quite roomy. The front porch was a welcome spot to enjoy a glass of wine after a full day of walking around town admiring the beach and Victorian architecture. We spent little time in the room because we were either out on the town or downstairs on the porch. Our second floor room was quiet, roomy, comfortable, and nicely decorated.

Great time in Cape May

4.8 on May 17, 2014

We had a very nice time, and the house is wonderful with all the Victorian accessories and furnishings. The Innkeepers are very accommodating, and the B&B is very close to restaurants, shopping and the beach. C.Jones

The location was great! Nice people and the house was beautifully decorated!

Love this place!

4.8 on June 20, 2013

Wonderful location--1/2 block from beach and very short walk to shopping and dining. Comfortable breezy porch for relaxing and reading. Owners clearly want guests to enjoy themselves and go out of their way to make it happen!

The Gingerbread House was a lovely, relaxing experience. Fred and Joan were delightful host.

4.4 on June 19, 2013

We were amazed by the clean, quiet, eloquent atmosphere of both the resort, Cape May, and the delightful Gingerbread House. The proximity to the beach, restaurants, and shopping was most convenient. Our Cape May weekend was a memorable birthday present. Thank you Fred and Joan Echevarria. Allen & Anita Barclay, Cheverly MD

Could Not Have Been Better!!

5 on May 27, 2013

The Gingerbread House is as charming in person as it is from the pictures and descriptions. It is in a quiet location, but just a block from the beach - the combination we were looking for. Yet it is also in the center of everything - we never moved our car?! Just walked everywhere and had a wonderful time and great food. any needs were met immediately (if not a head of time) by the welcoming staff - Joan and Fred have worked hard to provide such a great B & B and it shows!! The Place to stay in Cape May

4.6 on May 26, 2013

We had a great time in Cape May and the Gingerbread House was a large part of it. The rooms were very nice, very well kept, and comfortable. The Inn is less than a block from the ocean and two blocks from the Washington Street Mall area. Joan, Fred and Mckinsey were extremely nice and a lot of fun. Do yourself a favor and try this one out, you won't be sorry.

Walk to the beach, historic district, shopping, and restaurants

Gingerbread House Inn

4.6 on October 14, 2012

We have been to many bed and breakfast inns but this one was outstanding. From the moment we met the owner Joan we immediately felt welcome. She was very helpful in letting us know what was happening that weekend and which restaurants were really good. She actually sent us a list of restaurants ahead of our visit for our consideration. Luckily we made reservations before arriving so we were Able to get the restaurant and seating we wanted. The breakfast was lovely and Joan introduced everyone to avoid that first awkward moment. We left there feeling as though we had spent the weekend with friends. I would highly recommend this inn.

Like One of my Dreams--

5 on October 04, 2012

Sometimes in the cold and dark of winter, I have a dream that I've been transported to a warm place with appealing architecture, lots of side streets, warm breezes, flower fragrances, the leisurely clop clop of horses pulling tourist carriages every evening . . . the dream comes true when we visit Gingerbread House in early September. The decor is most appealing, breakfasts divine, afternoon cookies fabulous--a short walk to the beach or to shops means we rarely need to drive anywhere. Visiting with Joan and Fred is a delight--they have many stories and a good sense of humor. May our annual visits continue for many years! --

A very enjoyable stay!

4.6 on June 30, 2012

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at the Gingerbread House. The room, though a bit tight, was very clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was excellent.

4.2 on June 13, 2012

The B & B was immaculate and the bedding exquisite. The towels were of upscale quality. My only disappointment was a late hot breakfast - 9:00 am. Being an early riser I flet like a part of the day was lost waiting for breakfast. The hosts were more than helpful.

Exquisite Cape May B&B

4.8 on May 08, 2012

We stayed very recently for the first time at the Gingerbread House in Cape May. It was a working trip for us as opposed to a get-away, but we found out short time at the house to be charming and restful. The food was delicious, and Fred and Joan are wonderful and available hosts. The house is exquisite. IC and Barbara

Nice vacation

Great Holiday Getaway

5 on December 14, 2011

Joan and Fred are the best inn-keepers we've ever had - and we've had a lot. We take two getaway weekends a year and seldom stay at the same place twice. But we'll definitely go back to the Gingerbread House in Cape May NJ!

Sweet and Cozy B & B

3.6 on December 03, 2011

Very impressed with the facility -- nicely rennovated and very tastefully decorated. However, there is no parking and it was pricey.

Gingerbread house is a must stay location!

5 on September 19, 2011

Fred and Joan make you feel right at home in their cozy Gingerbread House. The Luxury Suite was incredible with a lovely balcony and private bath, this was an excellent choice. Not to mention it, we were only less than a block from the beach.

Great Stay despite a hurricane

4.6 on September 06, 2011

My gifrlfirend and I spent a few days at the Gingerbread House right before Cape May was evacuated for Hurricane Irene. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly return! Joan & Fred's hospitality begins when we booked the room. Joan gave my girlfriend thoughtful recommendations for travel and restaurant choices. When we arrived, we were struck by how charming the inn is, from its airy front porch overlooking a small scented garden; to the lovely and immaculately restored parlor with its jars of homemade snacks; to our light-filled room on the second floor. Our room had a 14" TV. We asked that it be removed while we were on vacation, and Fred took care of it. The location makes all the attractions of Cape May an easy walk, including the beach, and there are snazzy chairs available for guest use. We did not find parking to be a problem, as we easily found spots on a side street across from the inn. Joan's hot breakfasts were very tasty and were complemented by items such as fruit and homemade granola and the convivial atmosphere around the table. Joan also had tasty afternoon treats and cookies available all day. The Gingerbread House was wonderful in every way, primarily because of how welcoming the innkeepers were. As an example, during our stay we had car trouble. Fred called a service station for us and even drove over after we dropped off the car in order to give us a ride back. And despite being busy readying the inn for a hurricane, Joan sent us on our way with food for the road. Fred and Joan's warmth and beautiful home made this a lovely vacation to remember.

Great stay every time!

5 on August 26, 2011

I have stayed at the Gingerbread House 2 times now and both times we have had an outstanding stay. Very friendly staff. The home is beautiful and very well maintained. Never had a bad experience. Will be returning again! Lisa from Manheim, PA

Great time in Cape May

5 on August 10, 2011

Another great stay at the BEST B&B in Cape May. Joan and Fred are the perfect hostess/host at the Gingerbread House. We enjoyed our stay and the B&B is very nicely decorated. The work they do to maintain the inn is impecable and Fred has a great talent with all the wood work that he does. Thanks for a great stay!

Small, cozy, and relaxed atmosphere. Friendly and helpful staff. Close to the beach and the center of town.

Had a really good time.

5 on October 16, 2010

We went with friends, took two rooms, the facilities were fine, enjoyed sitting on the porch, the brownies and chocolate chip cookies were good, the proprietors are very friendly, helpful, and knowledgable about the local restaurants and sights, and the breakfasts were great.

An absolutely amazing weekend!

4.6 on September 19, 2010

Fred and Joan have to be two of Cape May's most valued Diamonds and the Gingerbread House is thier crowning jewel. From Fred's beautiful craftmenship to Joan's elegant decorating and cooking we loved every minute of our stay. We were made to feel comfortable from the moment we arrived and were met by Miss Penny the guardian of the front porch (all must give her kitty treats and stroke her back if they wish to sun on her porch with her). Joan and Fred made it possible for us to destress and relax and enjoy Cape May the way it was meant to be. We've stayed in many B and Bs, several in Cape May, and the Gingerbread House is the tops. Thank you again for a wonderful weekend...we will be back. Shawn and Joanne 9/19/2010.

Great Getaway!

I could not have asked for anything more. Just from the beginning it felt as if I was stepping in to a fairytale. My reason for going away for the weekend was to re-energize, spend some quiet time alone but this weekend was more than I had expected. from the owners' warm welcome to the was PERFECT! Great JOB Fred and Joan!!! Hope to see you soon

A Wonderful Stay...

4.8 on September 18, 2009

This is the first time my husband and I stayed in a B&B and this visit convinced us that we couldn't have chosen a better place. This Victorian home is charming, meticulous, and has the perfect location...a block from the beach, and in the heart of Cape May's historical district. The owners, Fred and Joan, are warm and friendly hosts who go the "extra mile" to make all their guests feel comfortable. If you're looking for "homey" accomodations, great location, and friendly accomodations...this is the place for you!
