We visited Henderson to see a local concert but ended up enjoying our stay at the Lamplight Inn equally if not more than the show. Gary and Shirley are very warm hosts and fun to engage in conversation. The inn is in excellent shape and being from the 19th century feels like a piece of history. We would wholeheartedly recommend staying here and may do so again in the future!

I found this place on line and needed to get away from the crazy city work days. I loved it! Quiet, friendly and easy. Just what I needed. I stayed in one of the cabins and heat stopped working. I had a newbheat system within the hour and the cabin was cozy all night. I will be coming back!!!
Thank You for your comments. We look forward to your return.

We stayed 1 night after a very, very long drive from DE to NC on Saturday before the Eclipse. I called from the road when I realized we likely would not make the later end of check in time 7 pm. The owner was gracious and understanding. As it was we slipped in with a few minutes to spare. We were guided to our room, shown the dining room and invited to help ourselves to popcorn, cookies, wide assortment of teas and coffee. The owner expressed concern that we had been on the road since 10 am and had not had a meal, but we explained we had the fixings for the picnic we thought we'd enjoy along the way, so we were set. Our room was clean and comfortable (only exception being a heavy sliding bathroom door), cooled by air conditioner, but we were glad to use an available stand up fan as well. The next morning we enjoyed farm to table breakfast featuring omelet made with freshly gathered eggs, fresh strawberries topped with a pleasing light cream dollop. Our only disappointment was in not having arrived at least a couple of hours earlier so we could explore the knick-knacks, doll displays, the yard itself, the nearby lake and the front porch for longer. I would advise there are friendly dogs on site. The roosters did not wake us up! If we were to return to the area again we would gladly stay again.
You must stay again, and see the continuous evolution of all the barns. With 15 old buildings there are constant changes and updates. Thanks for the excellent review.

This might not be everyone's ideal place, but I enjoyed it. The owner is a true marvel and the grounds and RV camp are worth a tour. Lots of lamps (oil) hence the name. Bed was comfortable. All needs met. I would return but then I like places that are different , and theLamplight is
We like being different and catering to special people. Thanks for the review.

This Inn may not be everyone's "cup of tea" but we enjoyed it immensely. My spouse observed: "It sure beat staying at a Hampton Inn!". It's really difficult to summarize what this Inn has that makes it a unique place to stay. First and foremost the would be the Innkeeper. She alone makes the visit worthwhile. The room/bed was comfortable. All amenities were provided. I will state that local dining options are limited to Interstate exit chain places. We plan on returning.
Thanks for taking the time and writing such a great review. People like you make my job worthwhile. We do have a really good restaurant around the corner that should be re-opening soon.

I so can't want to go back one day I was able to relax and embrace the stillness of the peaceful country. The Inn keeper was so kind and helpful. The food is amazing.

The Lamplight Inn is a very nice place for a couple to get a way. Ms. Shirley the inn keeper reminds me of my grandma. She sat down with my husband and I and talked for 30 minutes about the inn, the land, the history of it. We will defiantly go back. The breakfast was so wonderful and made with love.

Nice little B&B in a quiet, country setting. Stayed in the Gone With The Wind room, which was very pretty. Shirley was a wonderful host and provided all kinds of information on the area. Although the inn is somewhat isolated from town, it is very convenient to I-85. Location would be excellent in warmer weather with Kerr Lake nearby. Food was fresh and well prepared.

The farmhouse is quaint and rustic outside, but pleasantly decorated on the inside. The rooms are small so we didn't have a lot of space for luggage. They accepted our dog and it was a wonderful outside area to walk her, plus it was very well air conditioned for her to stay behind when we were out and about. I like to sit outdoors on the porch, but the furniture was not very clean...perhaps because it was a farm...the "camp" area was very rustic, but fun to visit as it gave the history of the tobacco farm. Shirley is a welcoming innkeeper and served lovely breakfast to us.

The cabin accommodations at the Lamplight Inn are absolutely charming. I only wish I could have stayed longer. My only critique is that they are in need of a good old fashioned, top to bottom, professional cleaning. I know that cabins are meant to be rustic, but it just doesn't seem like they've gotten the attention that the rest of this beautiful property has. If they did, I'd stay here every time I was in the area! Loved it! Oh, though the website may give the impression that breakfast is included with a cabin stay, it isn't.

As a retired military officer and now a senior government official, I have experienced a wide variety of travel accommodations and been exposed to cuisine on a global scale. My stay at the Lamplighter is without a doubt among the most enjoyable and satisfying that I have ever enjoyed. The manager, Shirley, is an extraordinary hostess, the rooms are neat and well cared for, the food is OUTSTANDING!! Do not let the quaint farm exterior fool you. You cannot go wrong staying at the Lamplight.

The lady that runs the place was super nice and helpful. Pirate's cabin was as expected/pictured. Not fancy but perfectly adequate for our needs. Side porch very nice to sit out on and read a book (with a headlamp!). Lock on door a little tricky but actually it would have been less tricky without the note telling us how to use it - they seemed pretty concerned about it and if they are that concerned they should probably just use a different type of lock. Unsure about the grounds - many things listed on brochure not sure if they existed (exercise barn, yoga platform) but or a quaint and quiet place at a good price it fit the bill!

The innkeeper could not have been any nicer and the breakfast was delicious. We were disappointed with the first impression of the inn as their was a good bit of junk (tools lying around in cardboard boxes, etc.) and carved wooden pieces covered in cobwebs on the front porch. The decor in our bedroom appeared tacky to us. The commode had a ring in the bowl but maybe that was just iron deposits. I guess we are just use to more pristine accommodations at B&B's we have stayed at before. The price, however was very fair.

My husband and I needed a peaceful and relaxing night away and we got way more than expected! A lovely comfortable and clean room with all the amenities we could possibly need, a kitchen filled with incredible smells from Shirley's delicious cooking, warm ambience and hospitality. To top it all off, there is a screen covered gazebo on the grounds of the property where we sat for a while that night and listened to the sounds of the country- so quiet and serene. Thank you Shirley for this peaceful heavenly haven!

This is an old farmhouse style inn. It was quite comfortable with a very nice and varied breakfast. Shirley is friendly and willing to cater to any needs. My only problem was with the cats on the porch. If you have cat allergies you will not be able to sit in the rocking chairs since they are covered in cat hair.

We spent an evening at the Lamplight Inn for our anniversary this year. As history and cinema buffs, we chose the Gone With the Wind room for our stay. Our room was beautiful, our hostess delightful, and breakfast superb.

Stayed in the Regal Room. Being located right at the dining room was great for helping ourselves to a snack and beverage. Our hostess met our food preferences and standards with Ridgeway honey dew melon with blueberries, soy milk, decaf., and Splenda with Fiber. Not to mention the baked mushroom egg dish, homemade biscuits, link sausage, orange juice and the to-die-for homemade coffee cake. We were the only guests during this one-night stay. We got to choose when we would have breakfast. We had breakfast after an early self-tour of the farm. My favorite was the fitness center, a converted tobacco pack-house. Our complimentary personal chocolate cake was also scrumptious. The bed was as comfortable as the one we slept on at the Grove Park Inn in Ashville during our honeymoon. We followed the innkeeper's suggestion and ate at the Middleburg Steak House, which is open only Wednesday-Sunday. Awesome! Didn't want to leave!

Relaxing on the porch, looking over the tobacco farm I could imagine days of yesteryear. Shirley has created and unique retreat. I would recommend to all to come.

I didn't actually use the B&B. We were in the adjacent RV Camp. Absolutely perfect for us. Shirley and Gary were very accommodating. The grounds were well kept. Reminding me of Bodie CA, this old tobacco farm RV park is in arrested decay. The outbuildings serve as rustic (but safe) porches and lounges. And they are fantastic artistic photographic opportunities. Being a retired photographer/graphic designer I took over 400 images. Some will definitely become part of my fine art portfolio. So, especially to your artists out there, if you want a quiet absolutely beautiful place to stay in your RV, or at the adjacent B&B, I HIGHLY recommend The Tobacco Farm Camp and Lamplight Inn. Mike D

My wife and I spent Sept. 3-5, 2010 at Lamplight Inn and had a wonderful time. The inn keeper was charming and quite plesant to talk with. The food provided was delicious (esp. the complimentary cake she baked for our anniversary!). The house was beautiful and well-maintained, as were the expansive grounds. She made sure to always have snacks, etc. on hand. Very glad to have found this spot in NC! We will definitely be back!

we stayed in a farmhouse with history and charm, along with an innkeeper who wants to share her knowledge of the property with everyone. the original out buildings of the tobacco plantation are there for you to explore, and the grounds around the family cemetery and curing barns are well kept. a wonderful change of pace and great getaway.

At the close of a busy summer we decided that we wanted to take a relaxing vacation that would allow us to take a step back from our fast-paced lives. The Lamplight Inn was just the place because it was just a few minutes drive to lovely Kerr Lake where we were able to enjoy the scenic views as well as rent a canoe and spend the day on the lake. Shirley is a very nice and hospitable lady and we could tell that she had really paid close attention to the details around the inn; whether it be the homemade fudge, the unique lamps found in the parlor, or the converted tobacco sheds we certainly found it perfect for our first getaway as a couple. Historic districts in Henderson and Oxford afforded us the opportunity to wander antique stores and sample the local offerings as well. All in all we couldn't have asked for more from the Lamplight Inn - it was truly a pleasent and perfect vacation for us.

Shirley really makes this B&B. She is so helpful, friendly, and willing to do what she can to make your stay a great one. She cooks a wonderful gourmet breakfast every morning. We really missed those breakfasts when we got home. A close second to Shirley is the location. The Inn is surrounded by fields. It was a pleasure to sit on the porch and listen to the sound of... nothing. The rooms are a nice size and well-appointed. If I could do one thing to improve this great place, it would be to just sweep the cobwebs out of the corners. They were in every room. I guess that's the price you pay for living in some place so rural: lots of spiders. Other than this, the place is spotless. If you go, don't forget to pet the cat on the porch.
