This is an absolutely wonderful b&b! It certainly exceeded our expectations for various reasons. Location: the inn is situated off a beautiful, clear water canal. Easy access to swimming, dangling feet in the water, fishing. There is also a boat for use on the canal. Rooms: clean, looks just like the photos. Menu: breakfast is tasty, ample portions and varied. Service: the innkeepers Godfrey & Judy were fantastic. They treated us like old friends! From picking us up at the airport, taking us around the city, introducing us to Bahamanian foods and more.. They made our first visit to Nassau really outstanding. We will be back!!

We recently (April 2014) stayed at LaPaloma, Nassau for 4 days. We chose this B & B for numerous reasons, one of which were the outstanding reviews we read on the internet. An update on these reviews is that LaPaloma no longer has the "pick up at the airport" service. You need to make your own way to the house. Also the Breakfast part of the B & B is no longer. Breakfast is not included in your stay, although you do have full access to the kitchen at all times. However, the general state of the house including the kitchen is not clean. Also there is next to no cutlery available for your use, and the kitchen has no hot water to wash the dishes with. The porch at the front of the house is messy and dirty. Also the bathroom is quite dated. The toilet and the bathtub/shower were quite dirty and the water from the showerhead just trickles out. The bedrooms (we used the two on the upstairs level) met out sleeping needs, however, they are just adequate. Diane is friendly, however, if you are looking for more than just a place to sleep, you will not really find it at LaPaloma.
We chose this B&B based on its location away from "downtown" and near the airport. We used the bus that stops one block away to go to town for shopping and restaurants. The building and grounds are beautiful. We had a garden facing room which had a nice balcony. The rooms and building were kept very clean. We did not receive any instructions on check in regarding breakfast and meals so we did not know there was a breakfast menu available. We did take part in the continental breakfast that was available each morning. On our second day we learned about the menu and ordered from it. Breakfast service was on "island time". We had dinner here both nights and each meal was great. Colyn was a terrific waiter and provided help with some other questions - he is truly an asset to this B&B! The only trouble we had was that our flight was delayed/cancelled and there was no way to call the airline 800# from the hotel without using our cell phone which would cost $2/minute. After trying a number different ways to contact the airline we opted to get a ride from John to the airport and handle it in person. This worked out well - we got our reservation re-booked and were back to the hotel in less than an hour. All in all a good stay at A Stone's Throw Away.
BOTTOM LINE: I certainly made the right decision to stay at La Paloma and would highly recommend it for vacationers, adventurous eco-travellers, and non-fussy budget-minded graduate students or young professionals. DETAILS: I planned a weeklong trip to Nassau for business + pleasure. As an adventurous young professional interested in experiencing local life, I decided to stay in a guest house near downtown Nassau instead of in a large hotel on the ocean. Based on price, location, residential neighborhood, and unbelievable service, La Paloma is the absolute best value guest house in Nassau (e.g., beats Mignon Guest House). The room size (Coral room), ventilation, temperature, and furnture were very comfortable and I adjusted to 'living' in the house immediately. The bathroom was well lit and good size. The neighborhood was on a hill with a view and was good for walking around. La Paloma is a 3 minute drive away from the bridge to Paradise Island (and I enjoyed walking home from Paradise Island for my exercise actually, ~ 30 mins). Diane's personalized and friendly service is by far the most special aspect of La Paloma and what sets it above other accommodation options. From airport pick-up and drop-off (included in the rate -- very rare for this type of accommodation), to shuttling to downtown to catch a jitney or grab groceries (and from downtown if able, also no extra cost), to recommending local sights and activities (the amazing Blue Lagoon Island beach day, 'Jollification' local craft fair), to tips on good local eats (Fish Fry, and under the bridge), Diane was just exceptional and certainly went above and beyond expectations. On the occasions where a question or problem arose (e.g., hangers needed, shower blocked) Diane attended to it quickly once brought to her attention. (FYI - I did not order meals at La Paloma, but brought home breakfast groceries on Day 1 and ate out for other meals, which is why dining is 3 'met my expectations').
My husband and I stayed for four nights for our anniversary and vacation. We loved the location and the beach club available to all the guests. The service was excellent and helped with all our needs and questions. We hope to come again sometime and recommend this Bed and Breakfast for a most relaxing stay.
This stay was for a surprise birthday trip. Our hostess was GREAT! she met us at the airport, and gave us a tour of the town, She gave us a ride to downtown and Paradise Island. We felt like we were at home, drinks on the veranda and good conversation. She was avalaibe to give us a ride to dinner each night. When it was time to leave it was like saying goodbye to a good friend.
Diane picked me up at the airport and, although the drive back to the bed and breakfast was scary (they drive on the wrong side of the road!), I arrive in one piece. Diane also pointed me in the direction of the tourist sector of town, and drove me both to the dock for my next day's Beach Day Adventure and to the supermarket that evening. She is very friendly, very polite, and there is free wifi in the building. Diane also drove me to the dock for my departure to the Sivananda Ashram. Altogether, my stay was awesome, but it didn't include breakfast.
Diane made us feel like family, and went above and beyond to assist in many ways, including picking us up at the airport, and stopping to allow us to purchase groceries. Wi-fi, and complete use of her spacious home made for an enjoyable stay.
My wife and I stayed at the Stone's Throw Away for 4 days. We were welcomed by the owner who was a very friendly person. I would recommend this Bed & Breakfast to whoever is looking for a nice and relaxing get a way.
we spent a night here between disembarking from a tall ship cruise and catching our flight home. Very restful and just what we needed to adjust to land life again. We were there on a Sunday, however, and the staff was not much in evidence.
It felt like we were still in the ocean when we were taking a shower - water a little too salty...so you can imagine how much we disliked washing our teeth with the sink water. Thank goodness we brought bottled water. Kept blowing a fuse for the whole floor when my wife ran the hair dryer! That's what I call back to nature. Which the front patio area glorified...it was beautiful.
We stayed here for 4 nights and loved it - in the list of top 5 things we liked about our trip! The rooms are beautiful and very tastefully furnished. Everyone's friendly and really focused on making our stay as pleasant as possible. We were touched by the attention to detail in every aspect of the service and property. Highly recommend it!
I boyfriend took me here for a weekend getaway, it was one of the must ramantic times that i have had. The food was great, the people were helpful and the grounds and views just breath taken. I love it !!!
Think all you want about Paradise Island, but this jewel is the BEST!!! When we came here to het married at Christ Church Cathedral, Grouper and the gang were unbelievable... Room, view, hospitality, staff... All great... Away from the bustle, yet you could not ask for greater people... Look forward to our return...
