The Briars Bed & Breakfast

130B John R Junkin Drive , Natchez, MS 39120 USA (Show map)

Situated on the highest promontory overlooking the mighty Mississippi River south of St. Louis, The Briars, circa 1812, is one of the finest examples of early southern plantation-style architecture. It is renowned historically as the residence where Jefferson Davis married Varina Howell in 1845. When our guests drive through the gates of The Briars, they enter a world touched with the magic, peace and beauty of the past, but with the amenities of the Twenty-first Century. Office Hours: Monday-Sunday 8am - 5:00pm

Great weekend getaway with my love!

4.0 on March 04, 2017

We had never stayed in a bed and breakfast before and we wasn't sure what to expect. The location was awesome with it being right on the river and nestled into a secluded spot yet still really close to everything we were there to experience. The room we had was a bit more like a hotel room with outdated furnishings but we enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the river and seeing a few squirrels playing in the leaves. The following morning we had breakfast in the dining area with another young couple and we all agreed that we would not even need lunch. The grits were amazing coming from an avid grit consumer. LoL. This was by far one of the best breakfasts I have eaten in awhile.

We enjoyed our stay even though the weather was rainy and cold. We have been 3 times now to celebrate our anniversary and enjoy it each time.

History, Beautiful Views, and Seclusion.

The Briars afforded my wife and I three days of antebellum history, beautiful views of the Mississippi River, shady grounds, and relaxing seclusion. Good traditional Southern breakfast. Friendly staff. Also, it was convenient for excursions to downtown Natchez

B&B Stay in Natchez

Glenda and Katie are a great asset to the B&B.

I had some very basic wishes when choosing a B&B destination in Natchez, MS. I wanted a river view, secluded, and most importantly quiet. All of those were met and exceeded. The beauty of the Old Mansion is something to behold and the history that seeps from the hallowed grounds was consuming. It is obvious the Briars is in a transition phase and will do nothing but continue to improve. Our expectations were absolutely exceeded most importantly the service. Aime was a complete star, checking in our progress just in time to clarify directions and personally met us as we drove up to check in. From that point we could not have asked for anything more, all of our needs were met, the staff was attentive not intrusive, just spectacular. A very special thank you to Glenda, who prepared and served the breakfast, simply delicious. You are a great asset to the Briars Glenda, and your warmth, southern charm was delightful. We will return hopefully some day soon and know the Briars will be better than ever on our next visit. This is not a 5 Star Resort, nor should it be or professes to be. If you are looking for a quiet stay, surrounded by the beauty of the river, amazing southern history, close proximity to downtown Natchez then the Briars is the place.

Love the B&B

Romantic Anniversary Getaway

4.8 on January 06, 2014

My husband and I and another couple stay at the Briars Bed and Breakfast Jan. 3-5 for our 17th Anniversary. The staff at this place is exceptional! They make sure you are well taken care of!! Glenda, the cook is absolutely amazing!!! Her grits and homemade fried chicken, as well as her filet were absolutely incredible!! You will not taste better grits anywhere!! We stayed in the Gardenvue and our friends stayed in the Rivervue. The Rivervue controls the temp for both rooms and it also only has a shower. The only view the Gardenvue has is from the garden tub. However, is a balcony overlooking the gardens and the pool. Thank you Mr. Leon and staff for a great anniversary weekend getaway!! Natchez is a beautiful place!
