My husband and I stayed at this BnB in September 2016. We booked the Scandinavian Suite (I believe it's called), and it was literally, the nicest room I've ever slept in! Everything was just so incredibly luxurious and comfortable. This is a quality BnB that I would return to in a heartbeat if it were in a more happening part of MN. I found Lanesboro to be pretty....quiet. But this BnB was top-notch.

A lovely night was spent in the Carriage House at the Habberstad Bed and Breakfast. The amenities were very nice and the caretakers were very nice. We were greeted with a lovely glass of wine, such a nice touch! We would recommend this as a lovely place to stay in Lanesboro. Thank you.

We had a lovely stay at the Habberstad House Bed and Breakfast. The Carriage House in which we stayed was lovely and very comfortable. The proprietors were very nice. We enjoyed a lovely glass of wine upon arrival which was a very nice touch. We would recommend it for a stay in Lanesboro.

Our two night stay at the Habberstad House was wonderful. Elaine & Mark were very welcoming & very helpful hosts, with dinner suggestions, making reservations & extra special touches. Their breakfasts were delicious! Our Scandinavian room was spacious, spotless & had a balcony that was great for relaxing with a glass wine. We are so glad we stayed here to enjoy biking on the Root River Trail.

Carriage house was a wonderful place to rest after long days of biking around the Root River. Breakfast was wonderful!

We have stayed at a lot off b and b before, and this. By far is our favorite. The rose Rom is so clean and well kept...it has been well cared for. The breakfast was so nice and it was wonder you that the owner and dog joined us. The gardens and groans are so pretty and well kept up. This is going to be an annual tradition for sure. We enjoyed our recent stay very, very much, from the room to the relaxing front porch!

I've only been to 1 other B & B so my experience with them is limited; we stayed here for 1 night and would do it again in an instant. The rooms were cleaner than most hotels I've been in, and there was even a faint floral smell to the linens. We stayed in the "Orchid" room while our adult daughter stayed in the "Heather" room; both were achingly beautiful in their decor and amenities. The homeowners had good knowledge of the history of the place, and there were scrapbooks in the common rooms that detailed the original owners. It was a Monday night but the house was full (10 guests total) - still, we slept well, for it was as quiet as if we were the only ones there. Guest ages ranged from 17 to 65+ (I learned this at breakfast) - oh, and the breakfast was to die for! Not only were we new to B & B's but we had never visited Lanesboro before. Again, the homeowners were helpful in advising and pointing us in the directions we wished to go. I'd recommend Habberstad House to anyone wishing

Enjoyed our stay. We arrived early but we were able to get our room, a nice thing when the room is for only 19 hours. Rates seem high but we were given a gift certificate. Nice breakfast with nice guests.

We had a great time in Lanesboro for our 20th anniversary, and the Habberstad was the perfect place to stay. Elaine was friendly and understanding when we called for a later check-in. Breakfast was great! We hung out on the swing outside after checkout. Felt like an exquisite home away from home. We'll stay here again.

The breakfast was the best I have ever had at a B & B!

Really enjoyed our Minnesota staycation to Lanesboro. The Habberstad House was lovely! What a beautiful property to call home for the weekend. From the freshly tended gardens to the walk up the 100-year-old staircase to your room, our entire visit was steeped in discovery. Our breakfasts were delicious, and we lived winding down by stepping out onto our private porch, too, what a plus! You won't forget your visit to this historic town, historic home. Jessica Lamker

The Habberstad House Bed and Breakfast is a wonderful get away. The rooms are quaint and charming. Everything is immaculately clean and comfortable. Mark and Elaine were wonderful hosts. The grounds of house are beautiful and very well maintained. The breakfast was worth the price of admission! A three course feast to start the day. Yogurt parfait, baked eggs, sausage, scones, Amish jam and peach crumble for dessert! Outstanding.
5 on July 03, 2016
This bed and breakfast is excellent very nice an super clean rooms in fact that's what really impressed me about everything how very clean and tidy it was. The breakfast was fabulous and more than one course. Loved our room and jetted tub. The only thing that I would recommend that would put this place over the top is to offer a afternoon snack otter wise they did offer drinks for the afternoon. Again fabulous place.
5 on June 29, 2016
Our room, the Carriage House, is a most cozy, relaxing get away spot. We had every amenity needed for our stay from the nicely stocked kitchenette for cooking if we wished, to the very comfortable king sized bed and living space, to the wonderful bath that included a two person whirlpool tub. And then there is the breakfast delivered to our room. A very scrumptious meal to start the day. The innkeepers are friendly and helpful. The Habberstad House is our home away from home in Lanesboro.

We recently stayed at the Habberstad House in the carriage room. The space is absolutely perfect for relaxing and unwinding, exactly what we needed! The room is nice and open, we loved having the fireplace and whirlpool tub in the room. Mark and Elaine were the perfect hosts, going above and beyond to make dinner reservations for us and to reserve tickets to a play we wanted to attend. Breakfast was delicious and completely surpassed out expectations! We would highly recommend staying there and can't wait for our next visit! Michelle & Brad

We recently stayed in the Carriage House for a "girls weekend" and loved every second! I wouldn't have realized the owner's just purchased the property a year ago...they seemed like pros and exceeded all our expectations. The breakfast was especially good and there was always enough to save for a small lunch. Elaine is an amazing chef and they were both extremely good hosts. We may make this our annual tradition!

Staying at bed and breakfast is what my wife and I do for our anniversary, for almost thirty years we been going away for a romantic get away. This year took us to the picturesque town of Lanesboro Minnesota, and the Habberstad house B&B. We chose to stay in the carriage house, a private room away from main house, but all the rooms looked very comfortable. On our arrival we where greeted by the owners Elaine and Mark, who invited us to share a glass and socialize with the other guests, we accepted and now have new friends, guests and Inn keepers... Our stay in the carriage house offered all the amenities and comfort one could dream of from whirlpool bath, king size bed,to state of the art sound system and breakfast in bed! The food and room where amazing, the only thing that made our stay better w as the hospitality of the Inn keepers.

We stayed in the Rose suite...loved the room because it had a private balcony and a separate sitting room. It's close enough to the "downtown" area to walk, but far enough where it's peaceful and quiet.

I was just there over the last weekend and have already recommended Habberstad House to at least a dozen people. I can't wait to go back!
5 on August 05, 2015
The Habberstad was top notch. Five Star in our book. Very, very clean, gorgeous, and everything I wanted was already there, they didn't forget a thing. We have already booked the Carriage House for our next stay one year from today when we checked out. There was absolutely nothing wrong, and everything right. I have never given such a great review, and I have stayed at many B & B's, as well as many 5 star hotels. Quality, kindness, intergrity, a gorgeous home, and class. Thank you Elaine and Mark, the owners.

We stayed in the Carriage House and it was absolutely beautiful and very clean. The bed was pretty good. The shower could have had a little more shelf space for soap etc. The Jacuzzi was wonderful with a very calming atmosphere. The kitchen was very clean and had everything we needed. The only disappointment was the breakfast. Very disappointing, couldn't hardly eat it. Way, way too much sugar. They basically just served us desert for breakfast. Two mornings they served a very small egg dish along with a lot of sweets. The last morning was 2 strips of bacon and french toast with a pink paste in the middle. Had to spit it out. If they serve a normal breakfast, we'll be back.

The breakfast is family style, which is very fun. Our table was full (ten people) even on a Monday morning. It was good food, but not as fancy as some b and b's we've stayed in. The hosts were extremely helpful...asked us what our plans were and if they could help us book any tours, etc. Beverages upon arrival created a nice welcome. The grounds were beautiful!

The Habberstad house was a wonderful stay. The food was excellent and the gardens are absolutely beautiful. Nancy (and her adorable dog Lena) were wonderful and very kind.

My daughter and I were looking for a fun overnight where we could stroll through antique stores, have a nice dinner and then retreat to a comfortable room where we could chat the night away. The best part of our trip was spent in the Carriage room at Habberstad House. Nancy and Lena ( her cute poodle) welcomed us upon arrival and then helped us settle in to a beautiful, peaceful space with views of both the fountain and gardens below and the treetops. It was just what we needed!

5 on June 03, 2015
Everything about the Habberstad House was amazing. The furnishings, the grounds, the comfortable bed and gourmet breakfasts all exceeded my expectations. The best part of all though was Nancy and Dave's hospitality. I hope that I am able to travel to Lanesboro in the future. This is the only B&B I would consider.
5 on May 26, 2015
We just spent an anniversary weekend here and everything was better than to be expected. Breakfast was one of the best we've had at a B&B. Our room "the Heather room" was well decorated and cared after. Lanesboro also offered a charming weekend getaway adding to the great experience. Highly recommend staying here as we plan to be back ourselves.
5 on May 23, 2015
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at the Habberstad House in the Scandinavian room. This was our first time at a bed and breakfast and I have no doubt the bar for us was set very high! The house is fantastic. There is intricate detail from the outside in. The furnishings are obviously well taken care of and much thought was put into their choice. Nancy is always warm and inviting and you can tell she enjoys meeting people and taking care of their every need. Our room was beautiful and very comfortable. Bring an appetite because Nancy puts together a lavish breakfast that you can't get enough of. Lanesboro is always a treat to be in and this B&B makes it all the more enjoyable.

What can I say, a fun time exploring Lanesboro then a relaxing stay at great B&B with wonderful people. The breakfast is not to be missed...!

We stayed at Habberstad House in May, 2015 to celebrate a "milestone" birthday. We enjoyed our host, Nancy, and her great sense of humor. She has a wealth of knowledge about her home and the Historic Lanesboro area. Our stay in the Heather Room was a treat- great bay window with a garden view- huge bathroom with a rain shower and big whirlpool along with a comfy bed and beautiful furnishings. Breakfast was fantastic and included great conversation and fun. We highly recommend a stay at Habberstad House!

My husband and I stayed here for our first B&B get-away. Lanesboro is a great location and this home is a wonderful place to stay. Breakfast was delicious, rooms were clean and incredible! We were looking for a last minute get away at a quality bed and breakfast near great biking trails and the Habberstad House in Lanesboro turned out to be a good choice. Nancy and Dave were warm, friendly and helpful hosts. The house was very clean and comfortable. We stayed in the Rose Room in April and the weather was nice enough that we were able to enjoy the nice porch off the sitting room. The shower was a little cozy for 1 person (if you are 6 feet tall), otherwise the room and amenities were great. Great coffee in the morning and a delicious breakfast with fresh fruit and yogurt, almond sweet cake and pannekoeken with baked apples and real maple syrup. The dining room was very comfortable and Nancy and Dave were quick to keep the coffee cups full. We also took advantage of the beautiful yard, sat on a bench swing and took in the beautiful gardens and local birds.

Spending a weekend at Habberstad House with my significant other, I found the accommodations comfortable, the location central, and the glass of wine upon check-in a pleasant surprise. I did, however, find the food underwhelming and the service somewhat stiff. All in all, though, Habberstad House is a great place to stay if you seek lodging in-town and with a unique history.
4.8 on April 14, 2015
I cannot say enough great things about our visit to The Habberstad House. We stayed behind the main house in the Carriage House, which was like a home away from home. There was a kitchen, a Jacuzzi, a T.V. a king-size bed and everything you needed to enjoy a weekend away. Dave and Nancy make you feel so at home and the breakfast's they serve are on the top of the list! Our children gave us this for our 50th anniversary gift and they couldn't have picked a better place!

Our third stay at Habberstad House B&B was fantastic. Dave and Nancy were engaging and helpful. We stayed in the Rose Room, new for us. It was wonderful with two comfortable chairs for relaxing. We especially enjoyed our long discussion with the other guests.Oh, yes, breakfast was delicious!

My husband and I booked a weekend trip to Lanesboro at the Habberstad House B&B. We were quickly reminded how much we look forward to staying at B&B 's. Nancy and Dave were gracious and engaging proprietors. Both mornings we enjoyed a delicious breakfast and lingered for hours with other diners for hours of engaging conversation. The historic home is decorated beautifully throughout. We will definitely book another visit.

When I read reviews I love to hear about what rooms people stayed in and the details so here goes ours. We stayed in the Rose Room and we so loved the very comfortable recliners in the sitting area and the private porch we had the chairs out there were so comfortable also and we appreciated the little tables next to them. Our bathrom was small but the shower was Great! We were ok with the small bathroom during this stay as we loved the porch and sitting area. The only thing I wish is that we could of had a Keruig in our room so we would not have to leave the room for coffee and some rooms do have one and next time we will try one of those rooms :) I will say though they have coffee ready at 7 downstairs which was very nice. Dave is just the sweetest man and so humble and made us feel right at home. They made our reservations for the Resturant "Intermission" which is Awesome and we will be coming back to the B&B and Intermission to eat again:) Thank you also for the beverages when we arrived the wine was sooo good.

My husband and I rented the Carriage House the other weekend. It was my birthday weekend. What a pleasant surprise this place was. Everything was wonderful. The Carriage House is very private and comfortable. It is very apparent that the owners have taken every detail into account and chosen only the highest quality furnishings. I loved opening the windows and listening to the water fountain outside while eating the breakfast that they brought to us. I felt so pampered. The theater in town was excellent and the bike trail was awesome. We rented bikes and it was so convenient. I bought the owners book about owning a bed and breakfast and read it in two days. Imagine my surprise to find out that the historical architect who helped select the exterior colors was a family friend of ours. That made our stay even more special. We hope to come back, or maybe I will bring my theater loving sister down for a quick trip.

I wish to thank Dave and Nancy for enhancing our short trip with a stay at their lovely Bed and Breakfast which included wonderful conversation, breakfast (truly the best) and a restful night sleep. This is the top of the top for B&B's. Nancy and Dave are wonderful folks. The setting, and rooms are unique and comfortable on every level, and the breakfasts… well probably the best we've run into on our travels. We recommend Habberstab House unconditionally. Simply the best! Comfortable and very nice. The decorating is near perfect but comfort isn't sacrificed in any way. And I'm not exaggerating when I say that our breakfast on the morning we left may have been the best I've ever had while traveling. The community of Lanesboro is interesting and the biking on the Root River Trail is excellent. Nancy and Dave know how to run a B&B and we enjoyed their company very much. Enjoy your stay.

First time at bed and breakfast. Beautiful house and gardens!
5 on August 12, 2014
Habberstad House was recommended by a co-worker -- I feel I owe him something bigger than a breadbox as a "thank you". This was the epitome of Bed and Breakfasts. More than any other B&B I've stayed at, this was comfortably homey, it was clean-clean-clean, and the food was really high quality. The gardens are really well kept and the house and grounds updated. Definitely a high-quality adult getaway that is reasonably priced. Expect the best, you'll get it.

Staying in this wonderful house brought memories of my grandparents small town Victorian home. The Habberstad House has been restored in the best possible way, staying true to its roots at the same time as it provides a modern, very comfortable escape. Our two night stay could not have been better in any way.

We had a wonderful three-night stay in the Heather Room. The breakfasts were sumptuous, the hosts always attentive. We appreciated the secure but accessible bicycle parking. Our only suggestion is to provide luggage stands in the room, since using the bed or chairs is not an option. We hope to return some day!

Outstanding B&B run by the very smart and friendly Nancy and Dave. Their attention to detail is second to none. The town and bike paths are great but a visit to the Habberstad House is why you really should visit Lanesboro.

I wanted to plan a special surprise for my husbands birthday where we could bike the local trails and relax in Lanesboro. I must say, this was idyllic! The home and grounds were well kept and appointed with beautiful decor that suited the style of the home. We were greeted with white wine and beer (our drinks of choice) and a tour of the home. We enjoyed the accommodations in the Scandinavian room which included a very comfortable bed, whirlpool tub and our private bath and our own balcony where we enjoyed coffee in the morning before breakfast. I was particularly pleased with the Keurig in our room so I could have my first cup before breakfast. The room was well organized, spacious, so comfortable and cozy and beautiful. I also noticed that we didn't hear any other guests thanks to the hallway that separated our entrance from the other rooms. It made for a very peaceful night for us. They also have a place where we could store our bikes, which we appreciated very much! Nancy and Dave were pleasant, helpful and offered great suggestions for guests as needed for dinner and entertainment. I loved that when I confirmed my room I received lots of information about the Lanesboro area from them. It was very helpful in making our plans! I would highly recommend the Habberstad House to anyone who needs to getaway, relax and enjoy a peaceful and wonderful time! We cannot wait to go back!

We celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary recently with a short trip to Lanesboro. Whenever we go to Lanesboro, we go biking as well as shopping at the Amish farms and we always stay at the Habberstad. This our 4th time staying at the Habberstad and it is always a wonderful experience. Nancy and Dave know how to make their guests feel welcomed and relaxed. I bought Nancy's recently published book, "Behind The Door Marked Private" and am looking forward to reading it soon.

Nancy and Dave are wonderful hosts, always pleasant, gracious, and very helpful when a guest needs helps making plans. To say nothing of their cooking skills - I've loved every breakfast I've had at the Habberstad. The house and grounds are beautiful. And the resident dog, Lena, is always a treat to be around and loves going for walks.

Just returned from a weekend with my husband in Lanesboro, MN and we stayed at the Habberstad House. Dave and Nancy are the most wonderful inn-keepers. Their hospitality, excellent breakfasts, historical knowledge and fine recommendations made our stay seem way too short! The accommodations were fantastic -- the whole house was beautifully decorated, each piece carefully chosen, and the place was spotless. The beds were super comfortable and their attention to the little details (bottled water in the rooms, extra pillows, beverage upon arrival, etc.) made all the difference. They were so friendly, yet sensitive to ensuring they weren't intrusive. An added benefit was the great folks we met while staying there--fun to chat with and share some laughs and stories. We've stayed at several other B & B's and this one tops the charts! A definite on our places to return to!

My husband and I spent two nights at the Habberstad House. We were greeted by our host with wine and cheese. Our room was very comfortable and cozy. Our hosts made dinner reservations for us and booked our tickets for the theatre. The breakfasts were very good. I didn't need much lunch. There was plenty to do and still time for a nap. A perfect weekend get-a-way. We look forward to returning.

We enjoyed our wonderful two night stay at this delightful Bed and Breakfast. Great room with a beautiful view of the fountain and gardens. Each morning we woke up to the smell of fresh brewed coffee which was savored as we sipped on it while sitting on the big front porch. We were then greeted with a beautifully set breakfast table, as our hosts presented us with a tasty, filling, and spectacular full breakfast. We enjoyed meeting new people and our hosts, Dave and Nancy made us feel right at home during our stay at the Habberstad house. We look forward to going back there again!

We had a great experience at the Habberstad House! Everything was outstanding. The food was unique and very good. Only one very minor issue in that the stairs going to another room above our room were a bit noisy. Again, just a very minor issue. We'll be back.
5 on June 20, 2014
Nancy and Dave are the most genial and entertaining couple and are very knowledgable about the Lanesboro area's attractions and history. They both prepare the food which is exceptionally delicious and filling. No need for lunch after one of their breakfasts. The decor is perfect Victorian and beautiful. Comfy beds and friendly people all around. Wow! Can't wait to go back! Pat Mc from St. Paul

This was my 1st time staying at a B&B, & Dave & Nancy far exceeded my expectations! The meals were FABULOUS! And our room was huge (we stayed in the Amish room in the attic space) & very clean. They thought of everything as far as amenities go. We were planning our return trip after Day 1.

This was our first stay at a B&B and the experience could not have been better. Nancy & Dave were wonderful hosts and their breakfast was outstanding. The B&B's location in town was close to the Root River Bike Trail that we biked from the B&B. The neighborhood was peaceful and very relaxing. I would certainly recommend a stay at the Habberstad House Bed & Breakfast.

First B&B stay and really enjoyed this place. Dave and Nancy are wonderful hosts and Dave makes a mean breakfast. Very, very clean. Nice grounds with plenty of places to sit, relax, and enjoy the surrounding neighborhood. I didn't want to be over zealous with my stars but this place did exceed my expectations and my girlfriend and I will happily return to Lanesboro and this B&B.

We love the ambiance of the gorgeous Queen Ann Victorian mansion. Dave and Nancy are amazing hosts and make your stay perfect! The rooms are immaculate and yet very warm. We plan to revisit again in a month or two. My wife and I HIGHLY recommend this wonderful B&B as well as the area.

We've stayed at Habbberstad House several times and the setting, food, accommodations, and hospitality have always been outstanding as all the other reviewers have pointed out. However, at this B & B, the mood is set for guests who are interesting, enjoy humor, polite, good conversationalists, so the breakfast becomes a three hour event, as happened this last time. I attribute it to Nancy and Dave who also have the same qualities. Thank you Huisengas! event.

We stayed two nights at the Habberstad House. I was impressed that they took care of our dinner reservations both nights and reservations for the play - which was a great show! The room was amazing - the bathroom was beautiful and had everything I could think of and the room was truly lovely as well. The food in the morning was well beyond what I expected and our hosts were both friendly and informed about things happening around town. We had a truly lovely weekend at this beautiful location.

My wife and I had a WONDERFUL weekend in Lanesboro, The highlight of which was our stay at the Habberstad House B & B. Not only were Nancy and Dave outstanding hosts in EVERY sense of the word. They were also extremely knowledgeable about the history of the area which also made them fascinating 'racontuers'. Thank you for making our 'getaway' weekend a MOST memorable one.

We are always so glad to get to The Habberstad: the exterior tells us we're home; Dave and Nancy's warm welcome and the hospitality begins its crescendo - theatre tickets, supper reservations, chatter about what's happening in Lanesboro and the area. Sleep comes easily - and a lazy morning toward an 8:30 breakfast (unlike anything Mom imagined) sustains us for the day of cycling on the bike path or 18 holes of golf or a float down the river. 3 nights at The Habberstad a few times a year - just right.

The Habberstad House B&B was an awesome experience, the minute we walked in the door and were greeted by Nancy the wonderful journey started. Nancy and Dave Huisenga are fantastic hostess and host, accommodating and knowledgable, sharing the history of the Habberstad House and Lanesboro, to making reservations for our dinners and ventures. The house is gorgeous and the accommodations were great. I enjoyed the victorian decor and the personal details within the home, giving our friendship reunion even more value. Fortunately having stupendous weather to enjoy sightseeing throughout Lanesboro and surrounding towns made this trip even more relaxing. I would highly recommend this B&B for everything it has to offer and I will return. Thank you Nancy and Dave.

The Scandinavian Room was wonderful, roomy & exceeded our expectations. Dave & Nancy were great hosts, made sure we were comfortable & provided 'concierge' services for dining & theatre in Lanesboro. The breakfasts were excellent & they went out of their way to accomodate a Gluten-Free diet. We appreciated the quietness of the Habberstad House & Lanesboro in general. We would absolutely recommend the Habberstad House to anyone.

We stayed in the Amish Room of this exquisite B&B. The Amish Room is up in the third floor, the attic. The room is very spacious with three distinct areas - the sleeping section, a T.V. alcove and a "kitchenette" alcove. We loved the privacy of this room and its overview of the beautiful fountain with its ring of lovely flowers. The breakfasts were exceptional!! If you are looking for stately grace and quiet charm to sooth the heart, mind and soul, Habberstad House is the place!

My husband and I usually camp, but on a whim decided to try a bed and breakfast and we couldn't have been happier with the Habberstad House Bed and Breakfast. The grounds were beautiful and the hosts were friendly and helpful. We received a glass of wine and unwound on the front porch for a couple of hours. Ours hosts helped book tickets to the Commonweal Theatre and to the Intermission Restaurant. Both were great! We would love to return again do this all again.

Every morning there was alway fresh coffee ready and waiting in the living room. That was followed by a perfect breakfast that started with a tempting fruit dish and fantastic breakfast. We stayed four days and every morning was a wonderful surprise. The meals consisted of international delights from around the world. The owner truly enjoyed cooking with an international flavor. The grounds were press teen and the building was refurbished to mint late 1800's era and elegant's.

This was our first time staying at a B & B and to be honest we were a little nervous about staying in someone's home with other strangers. Dave and Nancy were excellent hosts, the food was wonderful and the rooms were great. Comfortable bed and a big bathroom in the Heather Suite. We will return and recommend the Habberstad House to out friends and family.
5 on August 06, 2013
We stayed in the Habberstad carriage house, and hope to return again. We loved the spaciousness of the carriage house, the views of the gardens below, and the breakfast prepared by Dave was exceptional -- as good as any we have ever enjoyed. The only possible drawback for those who in enjoy the B&B experience was that our breakfast was served in the carriage house since the Habberstad House was fully occupied on the date of our visit, so there was insufficient room to join the other occupants around the breakfast table.

Dave and Nancy have created a wonderful getaway for anyone looking for great hospitality, a nice choice of rooms w/ a variety of prices and a breakfast that is absolutely delicious w/ their many details creating an edible work of art! We agree w/ another guest at breakfast, "I could get used to homemade ice cream for breakfast every day!"

We had a wonderful escape during the middle of the week to the charming town of Lanesboro and that escape was even more delightful because of our stay at the Habberstad House. We've stayed at most of the B&B's in Lanesboro and this is our new favorite. The house, grounds, and rooms are meticulously maintained. The hosts were very accommodating and made our dinner arrangements in advance as well as having reserved seats for us at the theatre. Breakfasts were delicious and got each day off to a great start. We look forward to a return visit.

I am a hotel guy, and I admit it. I love hotels. My wife likes to stay at bed and breakfast inns. This year she finally got me to try B & B's on two of our trips. I've got to say that our recent stay at the Habberstad House has made me a B & Believer. Our hosts met us with a complementary beverage, provided us with full menus from local restaurants, and took the time to make us feel at home. Our room was spotless, comfortable, and full of artifacts related to the house itself and the breakfast the following morning was worth the price of the stay. If you routinely stay at B & B inns I believe you will find Dave and Nancy's home one of the best you have ever stayed in. If, like me you are a hotel person, give this wonderful inn a try. You will not be disappointed.

The Habberstad House is a beautifully decorated and comfortable lodging. The gourmet breakfasts were an incredible way to start the day.
5 on July 11, 2013
The house is a lovely 1897 jewel that has been meticulously maintained, groomed and pampered by the current owners for the past 13 years, Dave and Nancy Huisenga (retired firefighter and nurse, respectively). They clearly love their house and love their business. Every room of the house that we experienced was spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. We stayed in the Heather Room, which has a small-ish bedroom but a huge, luxurious bathroom complete with corner Jacuzzi with rain shower and all the amenities. The bed was extremely comfortable with high-quality linens and all of the furniture and fixtures were beautiful. The breakfasts were simply amazing. Guests are seated in a lovely dining room around a 10-person table that is beautifully set. Dave and Nancy work as a team, with Dave preparing Nancy’s fresh purchases and Nancy serving the guests and telling wonderful stories about the house and the history of Lanesboro. The first morning, we started with a rhubarb cream pie-like first course, following by a mushroom omelet, ham and a hash brown potato patty. Nothing from the frozen food section here. It was all freshly prepared and beautifully served. Fresh orange juice, grape juice and water are at the table to be served family-style, but the starters and entrees and refills of coffee or tea are personally served. The second morning started with a tres leches confection topped with a small dollop of real whipped cream and a mint sprig from their garden, followed by pannekoeken (a fluffy, light pancake-like treat) filled with cinnamon apples and a side of bacon. Heaven! We give Habberstad House and Dave and Nancy our very highest recommendation. This is what the B&B experience is meant to be.
5 on July 11, 2013
The Habberstad House is historical as a home and filled with the history of the owners as well. It is filled with modern creature comforts, whirlpool bath, rain shower shower head and splendid linens. The Heather Room was perfect for a summer stay. Felt like I was floating on a cloud in the sky. The breakfast, more than one would expect. Nancy and Dave are gracious hosts and this is clearly a labor of love for them. Thanks for a memorable stay.

I don't know how to put into words how wonderful The Habberstad House is as well as the owners, Nancy and Dave. We spent 3 nights at the Habberstad and we were really sad to leave. Nancy and Dave feel like family now...they are the perfect host and hostess. We frequent bed and breakfasts quite often so we have alot to compare this B & B to and honestly, I can't think of 1 thing bad to say. Nancy and Dave make you feel welcome from the moment they open the door until the time you have to say goodbye. The breakfast in the morning, oh my gosh!!! (However, I really did want quiche HA HA - inside joke.) Delicious, wonderful, and plenty to hold you over until dinner! Nancy and Dave help with suggestions on activities and dining and will make reservations for you. The house is in A+ condition and decorated beautifully. Kudos to you! If you are looking for a B & B to stay at in Lanesboro, look no further. Thank you Nancy and Dave, we will be back in the fall! P.S. Mary, you are wonderful as well. So friendly and thank you for cleaning up our room daily.

Walking through the front door of Habberstad House is like walking through the door of a by gone era. Our room was the Rose suite and it was perfect. Dave and Nancy make you feel very welcome and they gave us great service. The only thing that I can say that is not positive is that they did not provide for us soap, which we did not plan for. Having said that, we will be back again and again.

My sister-in-law and I visited Lanesboro for a short kid-and-husband-free getaway. We biked, enjoying the beautiful weather and peaceful scenery, and then checked into the spacious and comfortable Amish Room in the lovely Habberstad House. Us newly weds planned to sped 4 days of wedding planning and wedding recovery at the Habberstad House. Our stay in the Carriage House room was exactly what we needed and more. It is very roomy, comfortable, and thoughtfully set up. The full kitchen allowed us to cook in on nights that we didn't feel like venturing outside. The couch was soft and cozy and an interesting selection of DVD movies are present to be able to watch on the nice sized flat screen. The whirlpool is an extra added treat with a good assortment of relaxation CD's and speakers right in the bathroom. The grounds are beautifully maintained and have several places to sit and read a book or play cards. These amenities alone would make the Carriage House room a good value. The breakfasts were simply amazing. Thoughtfully prepared and displayed, they were also a good balance of proteins and carbs. The owners Nancy and Dave were always around to help make the stay great and to answer any questions about things to do around town. I would highly recommend a stay at the Habberstad House.

My wife and I stayed in the Carriage House and it was one of the best rooms we have stayed in at any B&B. The breakfast was excellent and brought to our room. My wife has been trying to look up Pannekoeken recipes since we got back. Go see Ken to set up your canoe trip at River Rat Outfitters at the edge of town. We had a blast and Ken takes great care of you. Old Village is a great place to dine as well as Pedal Pushers.

If you are visiting Lanesboro, you simply must stay at The Habberstad House! It is by far and away the best B&B we have ever stayed at. Incredible breakfasts, wonderful hospitality, so helpful with ideas about things to do in the area. Dinner suggestions are spot-on, and Dave and Nancy will even call ahead for you. Even two nights of heavy rains couldn't dampen the great time we had this past weekend. WOW! (Be sure to ask about the Amish tour options.) Gary and Margaret

In the area for a wedding and wanted something different. Nailed it! Beautiful house, charming and quaint. Breakfast was awesome. The hosts, Dave & Nancy, were a delight. You were made to feel like you were 'family'. The bonus of the weekend was getting to have dinner downtown (note: Lanesboro is NOT the place to go to lose weight; great restaurants!) and then seeing Nancy at the local theatre performing Noel Coward's 'Blythe Sprits'. Outstanding theatre production in an intimate setting. Love Lanesboro; highly recommend Habberstad House.

Nancy and Dave were excellent hosts and the room and service that we received truly defined what an outstanding bed and breakfast really is. My husband and I have been guests at Habberstad House many times since we first discovered it several years ago. Nancy and Dave know how to make you feel at home. If we want privacy and quiet, our room (any of the rooms) is warm and welcoming. We have stayed in every room over the years and each is clean and decorated tastefully. The beds are very comfortable and linens, blankets and bedspreads are always crisp and clean. Lunch is never needed when we stay at Habberstad House as the breakfasts served are more than generous. Nancy and Dave serve a gormet breakfast that is always very filling and they often create and aquire new and wonderful recipies. Served family style, breakfast is, in our experiences over the years, a time to enjoy wonderful food, meet new people from anywhere in the world, and to be treated more as family than guests. Thanks to Nancy and Dave, our visits to Lanesboro always feel like coming home. CT

Our stay in the carriage house was fantastic!! I read all of the reviews and it lived up to all of the hype. Dave and Nancy make you feel right at home and the breakfast was better than we could have imagined. We left Sunday morning so refreshed and we can't wait to go back. It's the best place we have ever stayed.

Dining was not at the B&B however, there were many choices in town and the Village Pub was wonderful for dinner. Hosts were very friendly and attentive along with poodle Lena. Gorgeous yard and outdoor water fountain. Wonderfully decorated and authentic antiques.

The food was excellent and the room large and beautiful. My only complaint is that the innkeeper was a bit unfriendly when we arived 20 minutes early and when she asked me to move something of mine. We had very friendly and welcoming innkeepers at our previous two inns and it took a while for me to feel comfortable with the female innkeeper here.
5 on October 20, 2012
Our hosts Nancy and Dave were very gracious and helpful. They made reservations for us for dinner and a tour and gave us wonderful other recommendations for entertainment. Our stay was wonderful and the breakfasts were delicious. There are many things to do in Lanesboro and nearby towns including biking or walking on the trail, Amish tours, canoeing or kayaking as well as antiques. We will definitely return to Habberstad House when we visit Lanesboro again.

My husband and I would highly recommend this wonderful B & B to anyone. The Scandanavian room was a special treat! Breakfast was amazing, beautifully presented and delicious. Nancy and Dave Huisenga, owners, go above and beyond in many ways and know their buisness well.

We received our stay as a gift from our family and we decided on the Carriage House. Simply wonderful - hottub, fireplace and breakfast served. Nancy and Dave were amazing innkeepers and the breakfast was above and beyond what we expected - dessert first, then the meal....fantasitc. We cannot say enough good about our stay. We will be going back again someday..you cannot beat the hospitality - Thank you Dave and Nancy!!

We really enjoyed the privacy that the Carriage House provided and loved having breakfast come to us - we even stayed in our pajamas! We were looking for a quiet, restful get-away after a stressful month, and Habberstad House really filled the bill. We also brought our bikes and were able to bike the trail right from the house, which was really convenient. Excellent food and lots of it. Nice to have the kitchen available, too. It was a wonderful couple of days!
5 on October 04, 2012
Our main reason for this trip was to come down from the cities to see the cave in Harmony. I did A LOT of research and found Lanesboro to be the most interesting place for us to check out and with the (bike) trail head right in town we thought it sounded great to bring the bikes along and go for a ride. Everything was beautiful. This lovely town sucks the stress right out of you! Our decision to stay at the Habberstad was very much worth every penny and I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a great place to stay! Nancy and Dave are wonderful and their home is perfect and very well kept. We stayed in the carriage house which was a private room above the garage. This was our first time staying at a bed and breakfast and we will definitely return to the Habberstad house sometime in the near future!
4.4 on October 03, 2012
Room was quiet, and the bed slept very well. The bathroom was large and had a nice whirlpool tub to relax in after biking on the Root River Trail. Breakfast was home made and excellent.

Habberstad House was the BEST B&B I have ever stayed at! The owners, Dave and Nancy, were exceptionally gracious hosts and incredible cooks! The breakfasts were exceptional, the service great and the presentation impeccable! We stayed in the Amish Suite, which was airy, roomy and with a view like none other! Highly recommend this to anyone!

We (and another couple) stayed overnight at the Habberstad House, and all of us would highly recommend this wonderful B&B. The hosts were friendly and helpful, the rooms were exceptionally lovely, the flower gardens were beautiful, and the breakfast was very delicious. Thanks to Dave and Nancy (owners) for making our stay in Lanesboro especially memorable and fun!

I was a bit apprehensive about our first bed and breakfast experience. The idea of hanging out in a house with a bunch of other guests honestly didn't appeal to me. But my wife wanted to do it, so I decided to cowboy up. I did my research though and found the Habberstad house. They have a carriage house room - a room on top of the garage, separate from the main house. I booked it immediately as I thought it would be a good compromise. We still had a lot of privacy, but got to enjoy the B&B feel as well. Food was amazing. Service was great. Proprietors were awesome too. Able to make good conversation and tell us everything we wanted to know about the area (finding the best places to buy Amish furniture for example). We will definitely be back and we are recommending to friends and family.

Our stay in the carriage house was a great retreat. It was spacious and extremely clean. The bed was cozy and the two stereo systems enriched the atmosphere. We biked, dined, shopped and went to the theatre. We stayed two nights and both my husband I wished we could have stayed a third. Thanks Dave and Nancy for a beautiful place to visit. Ed and Paulete

Our night at the Habberstad House was our first ever B & B stay. We made the right choice! What a lovely house and grounds. We so enjoyed our suite with sitting room and private balcony - perfect places to spend a quiet relaxing evening. We enjoyed chatting with the other guests ( repeat customers), and the host/owners. Breakfast was so delicious and served at a beautiful table. We will be back.

We thoroughly enjoyd our 4 night stay in the Amish Suite at the Habberstad. Large comfortable room, fantastic breakfasts, interesting guests. Nancy and Dave are wonderful hosts and made us feel right at home. We enjoyed an evening at the theatre in great seats reserved for us by Nancy. One of the best B & Bs we have ever stayed in!

I thought the house and the gardens were absolutely breath taking. They have really done a great job of keeping everything as it would have been in the early years the house was lived in.We stayed in the Orchid room. It was very nice with alot of light coming in the bay window but it was a a little warm at night. We tried to open the windows but they didn't stay open. The other thing was the bed was not that comfortable. It did that sinking in the middle thing which would be fine if there was only 1 person in the bed but there was 2 of us and we would sink into eachother, The breakfast the next morning was really great! The owners were nice but I did feel at one point that one of them was put off by some of our questions..

The Habberstad House put the breakfast back into Bed and Breakfast. The room was furnished with charming antiques and decor while providing comfort for one of the best night's rest I have had in a long time. Great location in town with security for my bike. Worth every penny.
5 on August 06, 2012
We stayed in the Carriage House - it was large, beautifully decorated with all the amenities one could need (the glass of wine given to us upon arrival was the perfect way to being our stay). The breakfasts were creative and delicious. Sitting in one of the outdoor shaded areas, reading my book was exactly what the doctor ordered.

My husband and I stayed at the Habberstad House last weekend and loved it! Nancy and Dave are extremely personable and gracious hosts. The house is lovely and very clean. The breakfasts were wonderful. I can't say enough good things about it.

The Habberstad House is in amazing condition. The owners did alot of hard and talented work to restore it to a very beautiful and comfortable B&B. The owners, Dave and Nancy, were so pleasant, delightful, and enjoyable! Our room, The Scandinavian, was large, comfortable and relaxing, included was a whirlpool tub and charming balcony that we were able to enjoy. To top it off, we started each day with a outstanding-delicious breakfast that was craftily prepared and presented.

We recently stayed here. LOVED it. The whirlpool/shower combination was unique, we really liked the combination. The concierge service was great, no problem finding and making reservations for us. And what can I say about the breakfasts, they were way above what I was expecting. Both days it was a multiple course meal, everything was so good I couldn't leave anything on my plate it was so delicious. We would recommend staying here. The location is also nice. It is several blocks away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown but still within walking distance.

We had a wonderful time during our two day stay at the Habberstad House Bed and Breakfast. Nancy and Dave were the quintessential hosts and ensured that our stay was wonderful. Both breakfasts were outstanding and filled with fresh homemade ingredients. Nancy and Dave worked with my allergies and both of our diet restrictions to ensure that everything was perfect. Our room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was very spacious and well appointed. The rain shower was a nice touch. We will be going back!!

The carriage house was wonderful space although we did not feel we utilized it enough since we were there only one night and were with a big group. The only improvement I would make, would be to add a shade to the skylight opposite the bed - the morning light woke me up at 6am. The whole house and grounds were impecable. The owners are doing a top notch job of keeping up the old home and gardens. Beautiful property and very relaxing.
5 on June 27, 2012
Nancy and Dave are the terrific hosts of this B&B in pretty Lanesboro. They took great care of us during our stay, arranging for great seats in the local playhouse, offering excellent restaurant recommendations, and serving up tasty breakfasts every morning in their beautiful restored home. Habberstad is definitely a B&B we will recommend to friends, and one we hope to return to ourselves again and again.
5 on June 18, 2012
Our recent three-night stay at the Habberstad House offered a little taste of heaven! Our spacious room with a great bed, provate balcony to sip a morning cup of coffee and the quiet gazebo to read and rest in the late afternoon after a long bike ride ensured peace and tranquility for our time of restoratation. The best part of our stay was the extraordinary breakfasts prepared by our hosts! We have stayed at many B & B's across the nation and our meals at the Habberstad were the best. It is evident that they strive for excellence and continue to add to their culinary status of exceeding 4 star status! Nancy and Dave's quiet and unassuming graciousness in connecting to guests added to the over all ambience. We want to return again and enjoy the pleasures of the home and surrounding countryside. We stayed at the Habberstad for our 40th anniversary. It was spotless, beautifully decorated, and the gardens were exceptional. Our host and hostess were welcoming, funny, and very informative about the area. The breakfast was delicious, hot and promptly served. Having stayed at many B and B's over the years, I can safely say that this was one of , if not the best! Highly recommend this Inn, and hope to visit it again

We stayed at the Habberstad in October 2010 and again on our honeymoon in October 2011. Needless to say, we love Dave and Nancy. We stayed at a different B&B this spring and the experience did not even compare. We've been spoiled and plan to celebrate our anniversary with them every year. Even in a moment of crisis when a water issue made serving breakfast impossible, Dave and Nancy made us feel wonderful and appreciated as guests, paying for our breakfast in town and buying us a bottle of wine at dinner. We'll be back for years and years to come.

My husband & I visited Lanesboro & stayed at Habberstad House for a couple of days R&R after a working trip to Minneapolis. We were delighted with our choice. The beautiful, historic home had every comfort available for guests & was spotlessly clean. The breakfasts were a delight in both quality & quantity and we really enjoyed the breakfast time chats with our friendly & helpful hosts Nancy & Dave. We stayed in the Scandinavian room & were pleased with the size & comfort of the room & inparticular with the enormous Jacuzzi bath in the bedroom. The private balcony was a lovely spot from which to admire the house's immaculate gardens. I cannot rate this B&B highly enough. A wonderful house & genuinely nice owners who go the extra mile for their guests!

This historic home is fabulous. My mother-in-law and I came to Lanesboro for the Holiday Inn Tour, where you are able to tour 12 inns or B & B's in town over the course of two days. We were pleasantly surprised to see that we were staying at the nicest of them all! The innkeepers Dave and Nancy were so informative about local restaurants, happenings, and history. Even little Lena (the dog) was a pleasure to be around! We stayed in the Amish Suite, which has two beds (perfect for us) and was very relaxing. The location is very quiet, the grounds are beautiful, and the food amazing. I have only stayed at a 5 star hotel once in my lifetime, and I would actually prefer to return to Habberstad House. Thanks Dave and Nancy for a memorable weekend!

Nancy and Dave are very friendly and easy to get to know. Dave made us a delicious breakfast and Nancy enjoyed telling us of the history of Habberstad House. The brightest spot, however ws the conversation we had over breakfast. Everyone got along so well and shared to completely that we were disappointed to have the meal come to an end.

My husband and I spent this past fall weekend at The Habberstad House in Lanesboro for a much needed get away. Dave and Nancy were welcoming and made us feel at home with a nice wine and cheese reception on Friday evening to get to know the other guests. Our main purpose for the trip was to relax and we were very pleased with the Heather room that we stayed in. The large Jacuzzi with rain shower was perfect, the house was quiet, and the bed comfortable. The grounds of The Habberstad were very beautiful and peaceful with a nice arbor swing and fountain. Breakfast was so good and filling that we didn’t need lunch both of the days that we stayed there. Many of the guests there were repeat visitors that said that The Habberstad House was their favorite B&B. After our weekend, I can see why.

Our stay was a wonderful experience. As mentioned in previous reviews, Nancy and Dave are great hosts, warm, welcoming and ready to offer suggestions but never intrusive. We enjoyed hearing the history of the house and the town over a great breakfast, browsing the photo books in the parlor and strolling through the lovely grounds. The Amish room is spacious, comfortable and quiet, just what we needed after the day’s long bike ride. The house is beautiful, clean and well organized. My favorites: the dining room and the garden fountain. We will be back!

Our second stay at the Habberstad House. We had time to read underneath the grapevine ensemble, while a fountain bubbled in the background. Once we set out to bike, we didn't need to stop for lunch after a fulfilling, fresh, organic breakfast full of nutrition. My favorites at the Habberstad House, are the Friday night appetizers, the unique rooms, the well groomed yard, the easily assesible place to house our bikes the friendly atomosphere, hosts who are willing to assure our adventures and dinner reservations are complete to our satisfaction. Our two night stay was booked a year in advance on recommendation from a couple returning for their fourth time. My husband is not fond of B&B's, but this was an awesome experience which he wants to repeat next fall. Nancy & Dave are wonderful hosts, they both have a great sense of humor and quick wit. Our August 2011 visit was thoroughly delightful. I am by nature wary of B & B experiences, although I've stayed in several wonderful B & B's in the Pacific Northwest and Europe. Our experience at Habberstad was everything we could have asked for...clean and well maintained accommodations, friendly owners, superb breakfasts, beautiful and peaceful grounds, and a wonderful location close to the bike trails and downtown Lanesboro, without being in the center of traffic and activity. Our 3 night stay left us refreshed and fully appreciative of the time we spent in southeastern Minnesota.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 1st stay at the Habberstad House. We stayed in the Heather Room, and highly recommend it. The whirlpool and the rain shower were so pleasant. The breakfast was absolutely amazing. Dave and Nancy do such a good job. Thanks!

We were warmly welcomed by Dave and Nancy at the Habberstad House. The breakfast was delicious, the coffee abundant, and the conversation stimulating. They were also extremely accommodating for my glutenfree needs. Our room was delightful and classic, and really showed off the glorious property. Also lovely were the gardens and patios around the house, where we spent a relaxing evening sipping on wine. And joy of joys: no mosquitoes! Many thanks to our gracious hosts for the stay in Lanesboro. (And for the tip about the theatre production - so funny!)

We stayed in the Heather room. It was very comfortable and overlooks the beautiful fountain in one of the gardens. It has a large bathroom with a rain shower and whirlpool bath. Dave and Nancy were gracious hosts. They are very friendly and wonderful cooks. We were on the MS TRAM bike ride and they were very helpful and accommodating with our special needs for the bike tour. Thank you Dave and Nancy!

My husband and I stayed in the carriage house and really enjoyed having the place to ourselves. We were able to cook a meal together and dine in, were recommended walking routes, and relax together in front of the TV and in the wonderful jacuzzi tub. We would love to go again.

ROOMS: The entire house and grounds are impressive and our room was quite comfortable. SERVICE: The host served complimentary beer and wine in the evenings, which we were not expecting. However, the hostess, who served breakfast, never stopped talking to allow us to enjoy our meal peacefully. The meal was family style at 8:30 AM, with all guests present at the table for one sitting. Most appreciated the hostess’ input, I’m sure. We would have preferred an earlier sitting to make more of our day, and a more private breakfast experience. VALUE: Putting aside personal grievances about breakfast service and breakfast itself, the price for a night's stay met my expectations for a well maintained, high end hotel experience in this part of the world. CLEANLINESS: Seemed spotless. DINING: I'm sorry to say that our dining experience was not satisfactory with regard to food, as well as service. We were served a breakfast consisting of a slice of cake (for breakfast!), nectarine (yay fruit!) in cream, a piece of quiche that was about 1/5th of a 9 inch pie plate and had a hash-brown potato crust and 4 kinds of cheese, two pieces of toast, and 2 slabs of some sort of ham. Although great care was taken, I'm sure, in the preparation of these items, the caloric tally of this spread would rival a Denny's Grand Slam breakfast. The food came in two courses: course 1 included the cake and peaches and course 2 included the quiche, ham, and toast. These pairings were not well considered. The cake spoiled the delicate sweetness of the nectarine. The second course was excessively salty. The quiche was overloaded with salt. Why bother with 4 cheeses if the only flavor is salt. The toast was drenched in butter (more salt), and needless to say, the meat was salty. There are many other seasonings besides salt, but if any were used in this meal, they were overpowered. Surely some guests loved this food, but in our view it was poorly conceived from both a nutritional and gastronomic perspective.

We had a fabulous stay at the Habberstad House in Lanesboro last weekend! We stayed in the Scandinavian room, that was quite large, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. There were appetizers (fruit, cheese, crackers and chocolates) and wine and beer offered on check-in for the weekend. It was a nice time to meet the hosts and other couples that were staying there. The breakfasts were very tasty, and extremely filling! I especially enjoyed the fresh fruit with homemade ice cream that started out the first breakfast! We enjoyed biking on the many trails in the area, then to cool off, rented tubes at the Little General store and floated down the root river. There are several restaurants in the area to choose from, and Dave & Nancy (the B&B owners) have menus from several places to help you decide where to go. There are also two theatres in town (right next to each other) and we saw an entertaining play that Nancy was in! We had a great time, and would love to go back!

Habberstad house is wonderful. Nancy and Dave are exceptional cooks. They made dinner reservations and advised us on available events. Both my husband and I loved our stay.

We have been privileged to stay at the Habberstad House 5 times since 2006. A a Travel Consultant, this is my first recommendation in Lanesboro. Nancy and Dave are great hosts. The modern accommodations are immaculate, and the breakfasts delicious. With a nice selection of rooms offering a variety of amenities this is the perfect choice for a romantic getaway or a small group gathering.

What a delightful stay we had in the Scandinavian Room at Habberstad House! From the wine upon arrival, to the personal sized pannekoeken for breakfast, we were pampered. The room was so carefully furnished and felt as if we were truly on a getaway.

The carriage house at the Habberstad House was a perfect retreat for us. We biked in the Lanesboro area and would come in our own private entrance, pour some wine, enjoy the hot tub, and then go to dinner. The breakfast prepared by Dave and Nancy was delivered to us and was outstanding. We thoroughly enjoyed their gracious hospitality and beautiful grounds. I would highly recommend making this your B & B destination if in the area. Very peaceful, tons of room, great breakfasts, beautiful gardens and outdoor seating areas, great for a couple or big enough for a small family or another couple. Can't wait to go back!

We have been going to Lanesboro and the Haberstad House for quite a few years now. The property and gardens are impeccable. Dave and Nancy the proprietors are gracious and fun hosts. The welcoming wine and appetizers and the gourmet breakfast are such a treat. We love staying in the Carriage House with it's views, privacy and amenities. It always on the top of our list for weekend getaways.

This B&B was an excellent home base for our weekend getaway to the Root River Trail. Nancy and Dave were very nice and accommodating--they even went out of their way to use meatless sausage for breakfast when they learned we did not eat meat. The inn is also located within walking or biking distance to downtown Lanesboro and the Root River Trail (we never got into our car once!). I would definitely recommend this B&B for its hospitality, breakfasts, classic beauty, and proximity to Lanesboro and great biking excursions.

Can't say enough about this place ... the hospitality was more than gracious, the breakfast was delicious and filling, the rooms were clean and uncluttered. Would definitely stay at the Habberstad House again.

We were looking for two nights of total rest and relaxation, and got that and more in the Carriage House at the Habberstad House. The accommodations were spacious and wonderful, the breakfasts outstanding, and Lanesboro and surrounding communities are charming! We did a lot of biking, so the large whirlpool bath was a definite plus! We'll be back--and HIGHLY recommend it!!

What a delightful stay we had in the Carriage House! The Carriage House is next to the main house. You stay on the second level and so you look out over impeccably kept and beautifully landscaped grounds. In the middle stands a fountain, that during the day doubles delightfully as a bird-bath. The room of the Carriage House is spacious and airy, with lots of windows. Four sky-lights bathe the room with lots of golden morning sun. We loved the jacuzzi. Bath-salts are provided. We had fun putting on the spa robes provided, just so we could take them off as we slipped into the tub. Put on a relaxing CD and see if your blood pressure doesn't drop by at least 20 points. One thing we noted was how clean both the Carriage House and the main house were. No dust, no cobwebs. Inside the main house and the Carraige House, we loved the soft, muted color scheme and Asian motif of the appointments. You're just half a block or so from the edge of town in a quiet neighborhood. That makes for a restful night's sleep on a comfortable King bed. Because we stayed in the Carriage House, we got to enjoy a delightful, private breakfast on the patio. The cooking is superb. The food simply could not have been any more delicious. If the patio for whatever reason isn't to your liking, you can have your breakfast served to you in the Carriage House. We enjoyed grinding our own coffee in the morning, using the whole coffee beans stored in the frig. And, it was good tasting coffee. We never got around to it, but if you like, you can also take out some bottled water or a soda pop, or even a beer stored and kept cold in the frig for a very nominal cost that we thought was most reasonable. The Habberstad house has now become one of our new favorite places to get away to when we want to recover ourselves and our sanity in a place where we felt immersed in serenity and beauty. Thank you, Dave and Nancy! We will be back again, and again.

We had a lovely 3 day, 2 night stay at the Habberstad House. We were looking for a quiet cozy place to spend a couple days to relax from the hub-bub of summer. This was the perfect place. The weather wasn't terrific, but we were able to bike one day and relax on the wonderful balcony off the Scandinavian room. This room was perfect for us. Nancy and Dave were wonderful hosts and gave us whatever help and attention we wanted. They seemed to know when to leave us alone and when to step in. We had a great discussion at breakfast with the other guests which was fun. Thanks again for a great time.

My husband and I recently spent our anniversary weekend at Habberstad House. Everything was perfect and far exceeded our expectations in every way! We stayed in The Carriage House and felt truly pampered when Nancy and Dave brought us our delicious breakfast each morning. It was a wonderful experience! We'll definitely be back!

We have made several trips to Lanesboro and have stayed at the Habberstad House every time except once. When you find perfection, why change? If you are looking for beautiful rooms, excellent food and warm and friendly hosts the Habberstad House is the place to go!

The Habberstad House was a wonderful place to stay. The grounds are gorgeous and provide many lovely places to rest and relax, as does the main house. The host and hostess are superb. They are most helpful, happy, knowledgeable and both have wonderful senses of humor. The breakfasts they provide are among the best ever! Their culinary skills are excellent. All the breakfasts we had consisted of fresh fruit, an egg dish, a homemade breakfast cake, sausage/bacon, potatoes/waffles, juices and coffee. We highly recommend the Habberstad House.

Couldn't have had a better experience. We are not really bed and breakfast regulars, usually staying in nice hotels, but the Habberstad House may have changed our minds forever. We stayed in the Amish room which was perfect because there was plenty of room for me to work when I had. The whole house and all of the rooms (we all decided at breakfast one morning to see each other's rooms) were so nicely decorated - very good taste, not overdone, just elegant. The breakfasts were beyond any expectation I could have had, like eating in a fancy restaurant every morning - dishes that I would never have thought of and done to perfection. And of course, Dave and Nancy were full of ideas of where to go and knowledge of the area and the history - they were the perfect hosts. You won't be dissapointed at the Habberstad House.

We stayed in the "Heather" room (w/ fantastic whirlpool bath and shower) and enjoyed every minute of our time in Lanesboro. It has been a long time since I had better breakfasts, the yard and landscaping are idyllic, and the proprietors are wonderful. We felt we couldn't have picked a better place to stay.

The Habberstad House Bed and Breakfast was more than I had expected. The flower gardens were beautiful and well cared for and the house was gorgeous, clean and tastefully decorated. We had requested a vegan breakfast and the lady of house created a wonderful breakfast - I would love to see what she would make for lunch! The host and hostess were most helpful in booking dinner and the theater reservations for us. It was a perfect weekend of getting away from the city and leaving all stress behind. We will be back again!

We loved our stay at the Habberstad House. Dave & Nancy were super helpful & kind, and their home is just gorgeous. Being a bit of a foodie, my expectations for breakfast weren't too high just because I didn't want to get let down, but boy was I pleasantly surprised! Breakfast was absolutely delicious both mornings & we were barely able to clear our plates. I would highly recommend staying at this b&b.

The stay was fine and amenities was as expected. But the price was too high for this stay despite the fact that its not a highly visited and crowded place. The breakfast was really awesome, infact thats the only positive thing there. I had to pay nearly $150 for one night in the orchid room and its definitely not worth that much since its neither a big city nor a scenic location. My overall feeling is a huge dissatisfaction! I won't even recommend Lanesboro as a place to stay.

Great place to stay - especially liked staying in the Carriage House - lots of peace and quiet. Dave and Nancy were gracious hosts and very nice and friendly but knew when to leave you alone. Having stayed in several bed and breakfast inn's over the years, the Habberstad House was by far the best breakfast ever. Would defintely stay again. Thank you Dave and Nancy for a wonderful anniversary experience. Mark and Shannon Beard, Dubuque, Iowa

We love staying at the Habberstad House. It's a beautiful house with wonderful landscaping. The breakfasts are so delicious. We love relaxing in the jacuzzi or out on the deck. But what tops it all are the hosts, Dave and Nancy. They take care of us, helping with reservations or tickets, directions or maps, any other plans or needs. They are fabulous! Can't wait to go back.

This was our second visit to the Habberstad House and we stayed in the Carriage House. We love that it is designed like a studio with an open floor plan and includes a kitchen area. My boyfriend loves that they keep the fridge stocked with beverages! Our hosts made the most delicious gluten- free breakfast, which was a real treat for me since I'm gluten intolerant. Lanesboro is a great place to go to relax and enjoy cute shops and good food. As it is only 2 hours from the cities, we will definitely be going back again soon!

Second time we've stayed at the Habberstad. Our plan was to go biking, but Mother Nature changed that. Even in the rain we had fun in town. Then we hung out at the house. Plenty to do there, games, cards, and visiting. Breakfast was great both mornings. We stayed in a different room each night. The Amish room was big and roomy. The rose was very nice and plenty of room. It was a little strange to take a shower and look out of the shower stall. Ready to go back again.

We had never stayed in Lanesboro before, but knew that we wanted it to be one of the stops on our "bed and breakfast tour" vacation. The breakfast was amazing, and the house beautifully restored, but it was the hospitality that really made our stay. We felt as though we were old friends being welcomed for a visit rather than guests. Out of the four B&B's we stayed at, Habberstad House was our favorite. We will definitely return!

My wife and I loved the Habberstad House! We looked at many B & B's in the area and this was the highest quality place to stay for the same money as its competitors. Beautiful place.

We stayed in the Carriage House, which is separate from the main house, and it was everything I hoped it would be, plus some. The pictures on the web page actually don't do the room justice as it is larger than it appears there. We enjoyed the hot tub everyday along with the warmth of the fire place, both of which are great during the cold weather. There was absolute privacy except for in the morning when our breakfasts were hand delivered and placed on the table for us. The food was awesome and the service great. Nancy and Dave are very friendly and willing to do whatever they can to make sure your stay is the best it can be. When we were leaving they asked if there was anything they could have done different or better to make our stay more enjoyable, honestly I did not have one thing to say. It was our perfect weekend, just too short! Thanks Nancy and Dave, it was truly outstanding!!

The Habberstad B&B was a wonderful surprise! Having taken a spontaneous trip to Lanesboro, we lucked out to find this B&B. The inn is tastefully decorated and absolutely clean and comfortable. We were welcomed with a glass of wine! Breakfast was a feast of fresh, healthy food. Our hosts were great sources of information on the area. We'd stay at Habberstad again in a heartbeat!

This is a great B&B! I highly recommend it to anyone. We have stayed at many B&B's. Our standards are a bit high. So we really look at their websites and reviews thoroughly before we book. Dave and Nancy are really focused on you having a wonderful Lanesboro experience, not just on your experience at their inn. Their recommendations for activities and dining were spot on. They also seem to be well liked members of the community. Folks around town got excited when we mentioned where we were staying. We stayed in the Scandinavian Room. It felt very Scandinavian with its furnishings and two-tone stained pine board paneling. The room also feels very private as it is down the end of the hallway by itself. Everything about the room was wonderful.

Nancy and Dave Huisenga have made the Habberstad House into a beautiful, restful, and enjoyable haven. They were more than helpful with recommendations for activities and restaurants in the area; they even made the reservations and reserved tickets. Breakfasts were amazing, though the quantity was somewhat overwhelming for those with lighter appetites. Locally sourced and home-baked/cooked food was delicious and beautifully presented. Both owners are engaging and informative leading to interesting discussions.

We were greeted at the door with a friendly welcome and then were given a tour of the home. Nancy was very helpful informing us of events going on in the town and offering to make reservations at the local theatre. We enjoyed using the sitting rooms to read the local papers and looking at the photos about the history of the house. Dave answered any questions we had about the house. We stayed in the Scandinavian Suite and were very pleased. If you want privacy, this is the room for you. This room was added but the other rooms are the original of the house. When we got settled in, Dave offered us a beverage of choice. I would suggest maybe some food be offered with the drink like crackers and cheese or cookies. Now to my favorite part. The breakfast was to die for. It was delicious and let me say we were full when we were done. The presentation was also very nice. Dave and Nancy were very friendly and we always felt welcome. We would positively go back again.

Lake home? Why? Habberstad House in Lanesboro provides great accommodations (no need to open when we arrive or close when we leave): wine upon arrival, reservations for meals and theatre, exquisite suites, and gracious hosts (Dave & Nancy) who engage and inspire conversation. We are repeat visitors (at least twice/year - no matter the season ). Habberstad House is our Minnesota Vacation Home. Habberstad House is nestled in the thriving community of Lanesboro where the bike paths, canoeing, trout streams, fine dining and live theatre are a delight for every season.

We stayed 3 nights in the lovely Amish Room at the Habberstad House Bed Breakfast. We wished we could have stayed a month. The entire room was sufficiently supplied with comfortable beds, plenty of books, games, and movies. This room was decorated with style and class- right down to the custom soaps and shampoo. The Innkeepers fussed over each and every guest offering special treats and drinks, interesting conversation, suggestions for dinner and pampering with exquisite attention to detail, sugar cubes! The home and gardens were in mint condition with several outdoor quiet places to sit, read, play chess or enjoy the water fountain. A private indoor storage area was provided to store bikes with ample room to make adjustments for a long ride. The Nancy and Dave together are masters in the kitchen and offer a fresh, healthy, organic breakfast. (We didn't need lunch) Our stay was perfect, we had privacy but, also had consistant attention to our needs. We highly recommend the Habberstad House.

We have stayed three consecutive years and hope to come back for a long, long time. The primary purpose for staying in Lanesboro is to bike the magnificient Root River Valley trails. But we have experience so much more - fine dining, superb theatre, great shopping and the spectacular landscape. I am from the Red River Valley of North Dakota and my partner lives in the lakes country of Minnesota so the limestone bluffs are like another world. The very best thing about Habberstad House (except for Dave & Nancy) has to be the breakfasts. The menus are well thought out and distinctive. As much as possible they use local, organic food. Every morning is a new, delicious adventure and gives us a jump start on our long days of biking. The house and gardens are impeccibly cared for. We, without reservation, give the highest recommendation to the Habberstad House.

The Habberstand House B&B is an outstanding place to stay. Dave and Nancy, the proprietors, make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. They great you with the beverage of your choice. The home is lovely and spotless - I don't know how they do it. It has been maintained to the highest level including the historic furnishings and woodwork. You are given a key to your room and to the front door so you can come and go as you please. There is no shortage of hot water or towels and the beds are extremely comfortable. Now, that said, you must stay here just for the breakfast. It is a wonderful, wonderful meal that starts with dessert. How can you possibly beat that. We will definitely be going back here again and I live in TX!

I was one of three couples that traveled to Lanesboro for a weekend biking vacation. My expectations of staying in a small town in rural Minnesota were a bit hesitant after having stayed in B&Bs in Cape May, NJ and Rehoboth Beach, DE where "painted ladies" are abundant and renowned. This was an amazing experience! Innkeepers Dave and Nancy are obviously people who love their occupation and take extraordinary pride in hospitality and service as well as the accommodations and ambiance. The house is immaculately maintained, the gardens are picturesque and the rooms are neat, tidy, and extremely comfortable. I made the reservation for the Amish Suite in March for a stay we planned in August and as the date approached I was concerned - the summer of 2010 has been one of the hottest on record and staying in an attic room had visons of sweltering heat and sweaty nights of sleep. But I assure you it was not! A large ceiling fan, air conditioning that retro-fitted to the ventilation system and a large fan ensured that my nights were spent covered and sleeping in comfort! My friends that traveled with me stayed in the Carriage House and the Orchid Room and we spent Saturday night dining and playing cards in the spacious Carriage House. We've decided will have to do a coin toss for who gets the Carriage House on our next stay but I honestly think there isn't a room at Habberstad that isn't comfortable or inviting in its own way. Breakfast is gourmet and will absolutely delight your tastebuds and the level of knowledge Dave and Nancy have of the area's interests, history and dining and attractions is a bonus that you'll want to utilize during your stay. We are already planning our return and can't wait to stay at Habberstad again!

Our stay at the Habberstad House was wonderful and extraordinary. We celebrated our 35th anniversary here and would highly recommend this incredible Bed and Breakfast. Dave and Nancy were fabulous hosts and we felt like we had known them forever. The breakfasts that we had were top rate and most of all delicious. We are looking forward to spending another weekend there next summer.

The facilities and the hosts were wonderful. The hosts were accomodating to our needs and let us be as private or social as we wanted to be. The yard areas and landscaping are beautiful with multiple areas to sit, relax, read or just be. We enjoyed playing cards at a quiet table in the backyard and our breakfast in the courtyard. The food was unique and delicious. We felt well taken care of and that our hosts were sincerely interested in our comfort. Our room had everything we needed and was well furnished and maintained. We plan to stay at the Habberstad House again.

What a great place to begin and end our biking week with friends. Everyone met at the Habberstad House to check in and begin our week. We found the rooms so clean and comfortable, it was hard to get up and prepare for our bike ride. Once we did crawl out of bed, we were introduced to the best breakfast we have ever had the joy to eat! Ironically, now that we are home, I see I have as many pictures of our rooms and our breakfast experience that I do of the biking trails. Quite a nice tribute to the hospitality of Dave and Nancy. We stayed for a week and it was wonderful, can't wait to return. Terri S

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at the Habberstad House and were very pleased with the lovely accomodations and even more impressed with the hospitality of the owners Dave and Nancy. We stayed in the Scandinavian Room with a private jacuzzi tub, our own private deck and beautiful furnishings. The breakfast was wonderful. And the special touches throughout our visit made us feel welcome. We enjoyed the community of Lanesboro with its historical main street, shops and restaurants, and particularly the production at the Commonwealth Theatre. We hightly recommend the Habberstad House.

We had a wonderful experience at this delightful B&B. The breakfast presentation each morning was so outstanding we even took pictures of our food. Nancy and Dave assisted us with every aspect of our vacation. They suggested resturants in the area, gave us knowledgeable tips regarding the biking trails (we rode 110 miles during our 4 day stay), and even stirred us to some quaint local entertainment. We felt pampered and well taken care of.

My husband and I were part of a group of 12 that recently had the pleasure of staying with Nancy & Dave in their lovely Habberstad B&B. From the gourmet (and I truly mean gourmet) breakfasts, to the wonderfully restored home, to the graciousness of Nancy and Dave...it was a trip that none of us will soon forget. We were a cycling group, and Nancy and Dave were so helpful in accomodating our bikes and helping us with the various trails and restaurant selections. I would highly recommend the Habberstad B&B and hope to return very soon!

We went with friends and neighbors, so we were a boisterous group, but Dave and Nancy took us in stride and made us feel special every moment we were there. We had to take pictures of the breakfasts, because they were as beautiful as they were delicious. The bed was wonderfully comfortable and porch sitting every evening was as relaxing as anything I've ever done. We also had a wonderful time at the live radio program and the play, both of which included our irrepressible hostess. We plan on going back and recommend it in the highest degree!

I just spent six memorable days with Nancy and Dave Huisenga at the Habberstad House B & B in Lanesboro, Minnesota. Each day my friends and I said that our hosts couldn't top the gourmet breakfast they had served us that morning, and each day they met the challenge. Nancy explained the family recipes used as well as the garden-grown herbs that Dave used to season our foods. They joined us sometimes with fascinating stories of the history of Lanesboro and the surrounding area. We came for the biking trails which are superb, but left with memories of much, much more!!!

The hosts, Nancy & Dave, made our stay most memorable - they were welcoming and we felt very at home. Breakfast and the conversations around the table were great - it was fun to meet other guests.

The rose suite was so appropriate for our anniversary. I had asked Nancy to order a dozen roses to surprise my wife and being in the rose suite was perfect. We loved the private balconey where we could kick back and enjoy the afternoon with wine, beer and cheese. Our best anniversary yet!!!!! Dave and Nancy are perfect hosts, and what a breakfast!!!!! See you next year Paul and Gail

Upon arrival Dave and Nancy were extremely helpful in getting us settled. They ensured we had plans for dinner and gave some great suggestions. I had called ahead to ask them to go a little beyond normal services provided and they were more than willing to oblige. The rooms are impecably clean and the decor in the carriage house is modern and they make great use of the space. The pictures of this room don't seem to do it justice. I had looked online and we were sold, but were still pleasantly surprised by the ambiance. Breakfast is nothing short of gourmet. I sat, mouth watering in anticipation, as Nancy described each course while serving breakfast. Fresh ingredients (where does one get a fresh plum in February?) and an herb garden make the meal. The room was cleaned as we walked around town, the house is in a great location, a quick drive or a moderate walk from the downtown shops and trails. A wonderful experience from start to finish!

My friend and I have been staying with Nancy and Dave for years. My husband and I have also stayed with them. We do NOT consider any other bed and breakfast when going to Lanesboro. Nancy and Dave are the most down to earth, welcoming people, you could find. We book our stay a year ahead and look forward to our stay at the Habberstad House all year long. This truly is our home away from home! Thanks Nancy and Dave for years of enjoyment at the Habberstad! Cheri Yasgur

My family and I have returned several times to this exceptional Bed and Breakfast. Upon arrival we are offered a complimentary glass of wine by Nancy and Dave Huisenga, the owners/operators who are very congenial as well as helpful about how best to enjoy the Lanesboro area. We have stayed in various rooms in this historic "painted lady". While each room is quite unique (the rooms span the gamut from modern to very traditional), we have found the atmosphere to be relaxed and welcoming while the furnishings, decor, mattresses, linens and bathroom facilities are at a very high standard. The grounds are well maintained and attractive - there are plenty of areas in this large corner lot to to sit and relax, watch and listen to the water fountain and the abundance of birds who lodge at Habberstad House gratis. But the highlight of our stay continues to be the mouthwatering abundant breakfasts which include homemade baked goods straight from the oven. We always leave feeling completely rested, satisfied and eager to return.

My husband and I love to go to the Habberstad House! Nancy and Dave welcome you, and share the comfort of their beautiful home. Breakfast is an experience of sheer pleasure as they are both fantastic cooks and are always seeking out new and wonderful dishes to prepare. The rooms, common areas and grounds are all reflections of the love and care put into them. Attention to detail is evident everywhere, and the history of the house and it's previous residents is fascinating. We have become frequent guests as we know how wonderful it is to stay there. My wife loves Victorian style houses so the Habberstad house was just perfect. The house is EXTREMELY well maintained and the ambiance was great! Dave and Nancy served a 5-star breakfast and also helped make our entertainment and dining reservations. We highly recommend it in every way!
