Run Away....Dont stay

1.0 on May 08, 2018

Very disappointing experience. Avoid this place! Rude and arrogant management, bait and switch practices will stick you in their run down "cottages" and claim their castle is full even after making a reservation. They will lie and claim the customer came on the wrong date Mold or water stains in the walls by the bed, heating system with problems. Make sure you read the many other POOR reviews on other travel forum.Bed bugs, mice and poor maintenance are noted many times. You would be better off sleeping in a tent than this awful place. With the poor attitude of management, this place wont last long

Innkeeper Response

A Mouse Came Into Our Bed!

1.0 on January 16, 2018

Absolutely HORRIBLE experience! When we got there, there was trash (previous guests had celebrated Christmas and all of the trash from their celebration was still piled by the door and in the living room) from the previous guests in multiple areas of the house. There was MOUSE POOP on the counter of the kitchen. And then a MOUSE CAME INTO OUR BED while we were sleeping! Obviously, there is a mouse issue here, not an isolated incident. He came into our bed (ran under my husband's pillow) just ten minutes after we turned out the light. The manager was on vacation, so to get emergency help, we would have to go across the street, in a blizzard, on foot because the driveway had now been plowed so we couldn't get up the driveway, to get a phone number to call of someone who was "on call". It was midnight already, so we just slept with the lights and tv on. (Read: didn't sleep at all because the lights and tv were on all night). We CAUGHT THE MOUSE around 4 am when it CAME BACK AGAIN and jumped into the trash can. We were trying to be nice by not making a big scene about it when we went to breakfast in the morning. We quietly talked to the receptionist about it, who assured us we would be given a refund. And a week later we get a note that we'll get 25% back. Seriously?!?! THERE WAS A MOUSE IN OUR BED! WHILE WE WERE IN IT!!! I had to fight for 50% back and that's all they'll do. Talk about the opposite of a "romantic getaway".

Innkeeper Response
Hello, we were not informed that there was an issue immediately and you carried on with your stay. We received no mention of a rodent problem from you until the next morning and you were not troubled about it until you left and there was nothing we could do to solve the problem at that time. I do apologize because, of course, we would wish that this would never happen to any guest; however, we were not alerted to the issue until after your stay. Thank you and we hope that you can give us another chance to experience the beauty and charm of this Historic Property.

Very disappointing

1.6 on October 05, 2017

I hate to write such a poor review. The property is amazing. House has wonderful character and detail but it's poorly maintained. The prices are very high, both for the room and food. Their presentation is nice but whoever cooks here needs to go back to school. Food is horrible. I'll say the waitstaff we had for dinner had to be the nicest thing about dining here, otherwise there's nothing else nice to say. Food was very very salty, served cold and poorly prepared. The chef couldn't even prepare simple scrambled eggs. I suppose the dill which saturated the entire portion was their "elevation" of gourmet, but it tasted like a salty wad of herbs. I believe they want to portray a Relaix and Chateaux and Gourmet establishment, and they certainly charge as one, but truthfully, they operate as a low to moderate motel chain. The bartender was horrible. He couldnt make but about 1 drink every 15 minutes and out of the 2 drinks we ordered, he forgot to make 1. We had to return to the bar 15 minutes later and ask him for the other drink he was supposed to bring out. Of course, both were already paid for, and $20 I might add. There's so much more I could detail, but it'd be redundant. It's quite sad because this home is spectacular but that's about all. Far overpriced, food is horrible, and quite an unfriendly staff. Very disappointing indeed.

Superior Service

4.8 on March 05, 2015

Staying at the Henderson Castle is a decedent experience. The Castle is perfect for a romantic weekend. We ordered food after the kitchen was closed and they made arrangements for us to eat. You will likely run into Francois Moyet while you are there and you can tell he puts his heart and soul into the smooth running and service of the Castle. The next time I am there I'm going to try the French Cuisine they serve on site. They have multiple course meals that sound delicious. I wasn't aware my room came with a steam room/shower. Nice surprise. My favorite part was the rooftop hot tub. Wow! I can't wait to return.

Sleepless night

2.6 on August 21, 2014

We stayed on August 20, 2014 for my birthday in the Italian room. The building is beautiful, the staff friendly and the room was clean, but every time the air conditioner ran and the compressor kicked on it rattled very loudly. We slept very little if any that night do to the noise. It the morning we ate and left. No one was at the desk (we left the keys on the desk) and no one ask us how our stay was, We would not stay again.

Fun, Unique, Quaint experience

Stayed in the Italian room which was beautiful but beware, No shower only a tub. Castle is great. Very interesting to See the antique structure etc. staff very friendly and Courteous. Had 7 course dinner in restaurant. Food was yummy but not Particularly French. Did get worst of the waiters. Saw that other waiters We're much more efficient. I've been to French restaurants Before and Outstsnding service is a trademark. Did not get that here

Henderson Castle is enchanting!

Stayed in the winter the first time. Mr Henderson's quarters. Beautiful room. Would love to come back this summer and enjoy the garden and rooftop jacuzzi. Dinner was amazing. Love the back story of the castle and the fact that it's rumored to be haunted.... adds a certain charm to this amazing place.
