It was my first experience to stay in B&B. I had a good time, quiet place located very close to college. I walked to college a few times during my stay. Also very close (walkable) to Burger King and Asian Restaurant. Furthermore, the inn keeper Sherry is such a nice person and amazing host. I assure you that if you get to stay at Mayor Lords and get to meet Sherry, you will find a great friend in Meadville who is always there for you. I recommend you to book the Mims suite at Sherry' place. It is very comfortable and perfect spot for single, couple and small family. In short, this is a great place to stay and you will enjoy your stay.
The Mayor Lord's B&B was a great find for us as we visited the Meadville, PA area. The rooms were well-furnished and exceptionally clean, with very comfortable beds. Innkeeper Sherry was very friendly and accommodating, and provided a very nice breakfast selection. She is obviously committed to buying local, as she has local pottery and wine on display for sale; uses local pottery for her breakfasts; and seeks out whatever breakfast ingredients she can find locally (e.g., artisan breads). We would definitely stay at this B&B should we find ourselves in the Meadville area again. - Scott-S
Once again, Sherry out did herself, and provided a warm and welcoming environment for our weekend stay. We first started staying here in 2005 and everything has only gotten better! We highly recommend it. Currently we only visit Allegheny once a year. We look forward to our next stay in November 2017.
Mayor Lord's is without question the best place to stay in Meadville for whatever your reasons are; getaway, business, dropping off kids at school, etc. I've stayed there for the last 4 years and have found everything about my stay expectations to be consistent and sometimes better. Compared to hotel prices in the area, it can't be beat. The choice when in this part of PA is automatic.
I had the best stay here and highly recommend it to everyone. I came to drop off my sister at Allegheny College and it is only a block away. Everything was just outstanding and I will be back every time I visit my sister.
My wife and I were traveling back from Michigan to New Hampshire. We were looking for a nice place to stay the night and we were not disappointed. The hosts were very agreeable and went out of their way to make my wife and I feel at home. The house is quaintly cozy and decorated to perfection. My wife and I fell in love with the place. The rooms were unique and the way the house was set up each room had its own nook and privacy corner in the house. The house did not lack for anything. In the morning the breakfast was truly a pleasure served up by our host. My wife and I will definitely be returning.
Stayed at this great inn while our son attended Allegheny College (2012-2016) multiple times. Easy access to the campus, great accommodations and gracious innkeepers, and feeling miles away from it all without any loss of comfort kept us coming back. The last visit was for graduation weekend and our daughters and their husbands joined us along with an 8 week old baby. We will miss our regular visits to Bethaven. If you are in the area, or you have a student at Allegheny College, this is the place to make base camp for your visit. Bye bye Allegheny College and Bethaven Inn.
Sherry, We had such a wonderful experience and felt very welcomed at the Mayor Lord's House. It was the first time we have ever stayed at a Bed & Breakfast and it was amazing. The homemade breakfast was outstanding and loved the quiche. Our room was beautiful and our bed was so comfortable and slept so very well. Thank you so very much for making our stay with you the best experience ever. We are telling everyone here in Erie about Mayor Lord's House and it is a must stay amazing place to go and relax. I miss this place! While my daughter was at Allegheny College (2011-2015), I came and stayed several times during the school years. I enjoyed Eileen's room with the comfy couch and desk over looking the brick-lined Hamilton Ave. When my mom and sister joined me, we had the whole third floor to ourselves. A wonderful "girls retreat!" The breakfasts were amazing. Kathy and Gary were always very welcoming, making my stays feel like visits with old friends. Maria, Pittsburgh PA
Bethaven Inn, run by the Yaegers, is a dream in more ways than one. The couple run the inn to fulfill their own dreams of running a small bed and breakfast, and the love shows. While you are there your troubles seem to melt away, for you're in a different universe all together. The furnishings, the setting, the pervading peace and quiet are a balm for the visitor, conveying a sense of comfort and the stopping of time. I highly recommend the Bethaven Inn.
Sherry the Innkeeper was terrific, as was breakfast each morning. We could walk to the downtown area restaurants, which was very convenient. We would stay again if we are back in the area.
Imagine my surprise upon discovering my old house is now a B&B! My bedroom was "Helen's Room" ironic since my mother's is Helen! Imagine that room covered in the teen heart throbs of the time: David and Shaun Cassidy, Donny Osmond etc...It was a wonderful place to grow up. The best part was the sun room porch. In the fall we made apple butter on the edge of the "forest" close to the hill. Now that I look at the pictures through the eyes of an adult, it is a wonderful bed & breakfast. I hope all who stay there enjoy it's peacefulness as much as I did! Sabrina
short version: best place for anyone, but especially families, to stay in Meadville! Long version: We (husband, 2 preteen daughters, and myself) stayed at Bethaven for my reunion. We stayed in the Eileen and Barbara Jean rooms on the 3rd floor, which meant we had the whole floor--2 large bedrooms separated by a small sitting area (additional sleeping space if needed) and bathroom. The rooms are decorated with beautiful antiques but more important everything is designed with both comfort and function in mind. The 3rd floor is directly beneath the roof so the ceiling slopes down on both sides, with dormer windows. There is a window seat in each room (& a fitted bench under the 2nd window in the Barbara Jean room, so really 2 window seats in that room). The Eileen room has a desk and sitting area. The furniture is well positioned so you feel cozy, not cramped. The bathroom is adorable but may be too tight for comfort for some adults. My husband and I are of medium build and were fine, but someone with a larger frame may have a harder time. The sink and commode are under the highest point of the roof, while the tub/shower combo is under the sloping part. My husband and I are relatively tall (6" and 5'10") which required ducking during showering but was doable. A dorm fridge with working freezer is in the hall. Anything that you might possibly need is already provided and conveniently tucked away in the rooms. While we didn't stay in any of the other rooms, we were able to peek in them--the 2nd floor has large bedrooms and large bathrooms with the same beauty, comfort, and functional design. Breakfasts were delicious (croissant french toast or baked apple pancakes with sides of pineapple dishes and turkey sausage) served in the sun room. The public areas of the home and gardens are equally well designed, including the outdoor rope lights left on all night (made walking back at night much nicer). Gary and Kathy are excellent innkeepers and truly wonderful hosts!
From the moment we entered the mayor Lord home, we felt instantly welcome and cared for. Meadville had experienced tremendous snowfall and terrible weather but you would never know it from the warm we felt with our gracious host. The rooms were an excellent value, and the breakfast beats anything I've had inside a major chain hotel billing itself as a continental breakfast If your family is coming to Meadville to spend time with your student at Allegheny, or you are visiting for business, it is an excellent place to rest your head and a wonderful place to fill your belly at breakfast time.
Enjoyed our stay at the Mayor Lord's House. Sherry was extremely accommodating and helpful. Liked our room - the bed was very comfortable - and enjoyed breakfast - Sherry even fed our family who live in Meadville !! Would definitely stay here again.
Travelled from Ontario on our way to pittsburgh for a hockey and football game. Family of 6 (parents with adult children and their partners). Upon arrival were greeted, area questions answered and an excellent suggestion for dinner restaurant provided within easy walking distance- Voodoo Brewery. We all had a great sleep followed by a fantastic breakfast. Sherry knows how to cook! We have stayed in many bed and breakfasts and this one did not disappoint.
I visited a family member in Meadville, and was lucky to find Mayor Lords. I was greeted by Kate, a beautiful calico cat. Sherry kept in touch as I was not sure of my arrival. She was super attentive! I arrived earlier than expected, so I looked in all the rooms where the guests hadn't arrived yet. What a treasure! Each room was excellent. The home was craftsman, and I must admit, it's my favorite era, so I am certainly biased! I stayed in the Reynolds room, and it was delightful. The bathroom was charming, subway tile, old windows...My room was in the front, so there was noise, but not anything I would say was disturbing. Of course, I live in a noisier area, so this was minimal. Breakfast was hot/cold buffet style, and was quite good. I am not a huge breakfast person, so I am easily impressed! No stale donuts here!I wanted to stay an extra night, but they were fully booked! Next time, I will plant to stay longer!
This is a wonderful house and place to stay. The house was awesome and very peaceful. I can't wait to stay again. It was like going home to grandma's house. Thank you for a great stay. We stayed 5 nights the first time will make it a week next time.
We stayed for one night and had reserved the DeGrange room, but we were able to upgrade and chose the Lord Room. This B&B is beautiful, clean, and tastefully decorated. Sherry, the innkeeper, was helpful with restaurant suggestions and made sure we had everything we needed. We shared a bathroom with the other downstairs room, but all of your towels, soap, robes, etc are in your room, so sharing the bathroom is not an issue. We saw reviews regarding the traffic noise, but found that it was very minimal and did not bother us. Breakfast was very good and plentiful. My husband said it was just like being at home, and I said that's true if our home was beautiful and had nice furniture!!! We hope to have the opportunity to stay at Mayor Lord House in the future.
We enjoyed an overnight stay on the way to drop our daughter off at college in Erie. The Huidekoper room was beautifully furnished and the attached balcony/deck was a wonderful place to relax, read and view the lovely flowerbeds. We walked about 1/2 mile to eat dinner at a local Italian restaurant that had great food and service and was reasonably priced. Breakfast was a delicious buffet. A great value and we hope to return in the future.
We stayed just one night when we dropped our son off at college in Meadville. Sherry took care of us from the minute we arrived. Everything was as advertised, and we immediately recommended Sherry to our son's roommate's parents, who stayed there the next night. We already have reservations for a two-night stay later in the fall.
I stayed at Mayor Lord's with my two daughters while visiting Allegheny College. Mim's Suite was the perfect set up and very comfortable. The innkeeper, Sherry, was very warm and welcoming and provided us with a delicious breakfast of cheddar eggs, sausage, artisan bread for toasting, and fresh fruit. I highly recommend Mayor Lord's and will stay there again when in the area.
Wonderfully furnished, very convenient and certainly a bargain for all that is included. Spent a very comfortable evening and morning in the DeGrange Room. Despite nearly full occupancy, the environment was homelike and very quiet. The hostess is a joy to meet and converse with. Highly recommend.
My girlfriend and I wanted to get away for a quiet weekend to celebrate our anniversary. We wanted some place close enough to Pittsburgh that we could get there after work, but far enough that it felt like we were getting away. We found Mayor Lord's House B&B online and decided to try it. The house is charming, and it is very easy to forget you aren't at home. We were able to relax and enjoy the weekend without feeling the least bit homesick. The breakfast selection was different both days we stayed, but it was full of variety and very delicious each time. We will definitely try to make an excuse to visit again.
