One night stay

3.6 on May 19, 2018

Stayed one night. Staff was friendly. Room was clean.

Needs a total remodel

1.4 on May 17, 2018

We had great expectations and unfortunately none were met. The property looks nice from the pictures ... needs a lot of work. Their were bugs in our room, no tissues, no face soap, mold in the shower, no make up mirror, burnt out light bulbs. The attention to detail was lacking. Breakfast was confusing, we didn't know that we would have to find the cook to place our food order, the process was not discussed and we waited 30 minutes for our eggs, and to top it off the order was not correct.

Gracious and accommodating host

4.8 on February 20, 2018

Cynthia was a Godsend when my family needed a place to stay while my family member was hospitalized. She worked with me to find the best accommodations for my mother and my brother. She reorganized reservations on-the-spot to help us. The Inn was tranquil and relaxing. We would definitely visit again.

Our Stay at the Columbia Inn at Peralynna Manor

5 on December 16, 2016

We heard about this special Bed an Breakfast from a co-worker 5 years ago and they were very pleased with their stay and had the Best breakfast and classy scenery along with a live pianist. Every employee was very friendly and professional. We really enjoyed our stay. Can't wait to get back there during the summer. Donald and Mary

Innkeeper Response

A Delightful Gem

4.8 on November 04, 2016

This was my second visit to the Columbia Inn at Peralynna and once again it did not disappoint. The owner's grandson greeted me on my arrival and was extremely personable. My room was lovely and breakfast was a delight. I highly recommend this delightful gem of a B&B.

Innkeeper Response
Thank you for taking the time to write this beautiful review. We do our best to greet each and every guest and make their stay as wonderful as yours. We look forward to your return!

Good stay, except for disruptive housekeeping

3.4 on October 17, 2016

Overall, our stay at the Columbia Inn was pretty nice. The building is beautiful, the room was nice, and service at the beginning was attentive. Food in the morning was also good. The negative part of the experience was the fact that housekeeping walked into our room FOUR times while we were in bed or using the restroom - 3 times before standard checkout at 11, and once more before our delayed checkout (which had been approved by management) at noon. The interruptions made the stay pretty stressful, and management needs to address it. Otherwise, the stay was enjoyable.

Incredible Service and Great Staff

5 on May 25, 2016

The staff is absolutely incredible. It's a beautiful and very comfortable place to stay. I am delighted that I found it as I had been staying at the chain hotels in Columbia when I come up on business. This is considerably nicer. One of the great things is that each room is different - all are very comfortable - and the staff is incredible (bears repeating!)

Innkeeper Response
We could not agree with you more. We are an excellent alternative to the chain hotels. We hope that you return soon to experience the same excellent service. Thank you for sharing your kind words.

Very pleasant family run place

3.6 on March 10, 2016

We enjoyed our stay. The staff was very nice if a bit quiet. Which does seem to be the norm here in the East. Not the most social of folks. The hotel itself was comfortable and pleasant. The library and game room seemed fun. The grounds were also very relaxing and the breakfast was great. Just like home cooking! I do have two negatives. There was no phone in the room to reach someone at the front desk. And the neighbors were arguing all night long. We didnt want to leave our room as it was a romantic getaway. It would have been nioce to have a room with not fighting neighbors or some way to reach the front desk to have them come and ask the neighbors to be respectful.

Innkeeper Response
Thank you for your review. We appreciate your kind words regarding our staff, food and atmosphere. We truly are the ideal romantic getaway in Maryland. We apologize for any inconvenience you experienced by not having a phone in your guest room. After 19 years of providing phones we recently had them all removed for lack of use. Our front desk number is printed on all of our guest's registration cards if they need anything at all. I'm sorry our phone number wasn't pointed out to you. We also want to sincerely apologize for any distribution from your neighboring guests. This is a rare occurrence at our Inn. We would love for you to reach out to us to discuss this further and in some way make it up to you. My direct line is 410-227-8479. I hope that you will reach out soon. Thank you again for sharing your experience.

One of a kind European elegance hospitality

5 on December 10, 2015

I traveled for business in December 2015 and selected The Columbia Inn for location convenience and for the customer high rating. To my pleasant surprise, I found the Columbia Inn to be the most relaxing and home feeling experience from all my busy travels in the last three months, where I had to be in a new place almost every day. Refreshing and comforting, the suite I stayed in was furnished with high taste and quality, a fireplace in each room, a dining table, microwave and fridge, two bathrooms equipped with jet tub and multiple jet showers, a balcony with great views. The breakfast was freshly prepared by the cook on order, and it was deliciously fresh and tasty. The dining area is furnished in an European elegant style, with large tables covered with tablecloth, and french doors leading to the private deck with outdoor sitting, where you could enjoy the nicely maintained back yard. Every evening after 6pm the owners entertain a complementary snack and wine tasting. I had a reservation at the Columbia Inn few weeks prior made through a booking agency on line, and never made it due to business travel changes. The owners were so nice to call me back to let me know that if I chose to stay at their Inn another time, they were offering me a free night for the night I could not come last time. I came few weeks later and I benefited of one night free besides the night I booked for the trip. What an awesome experience, it never happened to me such a pleasant thing before. Overall I was totally pleased and very happy with my stay at the Columbia Inn at Peralynna. After two months of very busy travel, I finally found a place that made me feel at home and relaxed, a place that brought back deep European melancholia... Many thanks to the owners and staff for the distinguished efforts to make this happen! Five out of five stars!

Innkeeper Response
Thank you for this beautiful and detailed review. We truly enjoyed having you as our guest. We are so glad we could provide you with some relaxation and comfort during your travels. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

About the innkeepers

We like to have our house filled with music, fun and stimulating discussion. David will regale you with our genealogy & Cynthia can share her experiences in designing Peralynna, basing it on a home she had lived in, in Europe. Our son, Brandon, was the builder of this 22,0000 sq. ft. building, at age 22. He was a child prodigy with no formal training, and impressed every inspector & engineer working with him, with his innate abilities, skills & decisive management style. We are still in awe!

Signature Dish

Berries in a Cloud
BERRIES IN A CLOUD 3 egg whites 1 tsp vanilla ¼ tsp cream of tartar 1 cup granulated sugar ½ cup finely chopped almonds, toasted 1 3-oz package cream cheese, softened ½ cups packed brown sugar ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder 2 tbsp milk ½ teaspoon vanilla 1 cup whipping cream 3 cups fresh whole strawberries, stems and caps removed 2 oz semisweet chocolate, cut up 2 tsp shortening Let egg whites stand at room temperature for 30 minutes. Cover a baking sheet parchment paper. Draw a 9 inch circle on the paper; set aside. In a large mixing bowl combine egg whites, 1 tsp vanilla, and cream of tartar. Beat with electric mixer on medium speed till soft peaks form. Gradually add granulated sugar, 1 tbsp at a time, beating on high speed till very stiff peaks form and sugar is almost dissolved. Fold in almonds. Spread over circle drawn on paper, building sides up taller than center to form a shell. Bake in a 300 degree oven for 45 minutes. Turn off oven; let meringue dry in oven with door closed at least 1 hour (do not open oven door). Remove from oven. Lift Meringue and carefully peel off paper; transfer to a serving platter. (Or store in an airtight container overnight.) For cocoa mousse, in a small mixing bowl beat cream cheese and brown sugar till smooth. Add cocoa powder, milk, and the ½ tsp vanilla; beat till smooth. In another chilled, small mixing bowl beat whipping cream with chilled beaters of an electric mixer on medium speed to soft peaks; fold into cocoa mixture. Carefully spoon cocoa mousse into the meringue shell. Press whole berries, stem side down, into the mousse. In a heavy small sauce pan melt semisweet chocolate and shortening over low heat, stirring constantly. Drizzle over berries, filling and meringue. Serve immediately, or cover and chill filled meringue for up to 2 hours. To serve cut into wedges, dipping knife into water between cuts. Serves 10.
