Overall experience was great. My only concern was that nobody picked up the phone or returned my calls. I was not able to order champagne or wine at 6pm. No one answers the phone. When we checked out we left keys but I was not able to buy tea or anything at the gift shop. Nobody was at the desk 1030 am or answered the phone. The grounds are beautiful, house, and room lovely. We sleep so well. If you want peace and quiet with no interactions with inn keepers this is the place they avoid you all the time. Breakfast was delicious yum yum.

My wife and I feel like had taken a mini-retreat with our stay at Elk Forge. The common areas were fabulous to be alone in and settle back and read. Our room was comfortable and loved the two person tub. The setting was serene and wooded. And, the breakfast was great--food and service. we can't wait to go back!

Elk Forge is a beautiful estate home with a very cozy, family type atmosphere. We stayed in The Chesapeake Room on the third floor. It was lovely and the bed was amazingly comfortable! My only suggestion would be for the B&B to offer "do not disturb" signs for the door as we were trying to rest during the day and housekeeping knocked on our for twice and woke us up. We had to answer the door so they didn't think the room was empty and come in. The breakfasts were delicious both mornings. I would love to and most likely will return.

My fiancé and I only stayed one night, but we loved it! The building itself is super cool and they provide you with everything you need. Definitely will be returning and recommending.

The building, its grounds, and location in Elkton, are beautiful, but we felt the B&B was not living up to its full potential. The room we stayed in was very comfortable and quiet, but seemed a little dated. As did other areas of the Inn.

Well...we have 4 kiddos and live away from family in Texas so we don't get many chances to get away by ourselves. I wanted to do something nice for our 16 year anniversary and this was exactly what we needed, a nice place away from the normal hotel stay. Everything was very nice and clean on our arrival. We stayed in the Wilmington suite, which was very affordable and cozy. The breakfast was definitely one of the highlights. I definitely recommend the elk forge and hope to visit again in the future.

We don't expect to be pampered or wowed when we stay anywhere, if we are its a nice surprise, so with that being said it just didn't happen here. Suite was sub par in decor, although nice and roomy and the sleep number bed was a perk. The included breakfast was delicious but on last day of our stay once the two catering size trays of food were empty the last few guests to get to the dining room went without. The interior of the Inn was quant, old, with nice details and same with the outside, but you could tell there was a lack of required routine maintenance that is keeping this place from moving to the next level.

What a cool little place. My husband and I got to speak with the caretakers of the property while there (Brittany & Seth) who just so happened to be as charming and interesting as the house itself. They gave us quite o bit of background on Elk Forge as well. The main house is over 200 years old (the additions were added in 2000 when it was turned into a bed and breakfast). Only 2 owners have held the deed to this property in it's 200 year history. Seth, one of the current owners son's (and dual property manager along with is equally amazing and hardworking wife Brittany) has traveled the country staying at several different B&B's in order to get a feel for the style and quality he wanted to bring to this unique little getaway located in Elkton MD. It's definitely a step back in time to a more old school feel. Cracks in the walls show the homes age while simultaneously giving it character without the feel of it it falling apart. Lots of things have been re-purposed and reused. From all the stained glass windows that remind you of a church, to the old furniture and even the amazing artwork all over the walls and ceilings....it all just goes to prove that no stone was left unturned while converting this house into a budding B&B dream. The homes' charm and character can't be ignored from the moment you turn up the driveway. As you step across the threshold a very relaxing feeling of yesteryear consumes you while still giving off an air of elegance at the same time. What a beautiful place. So glad we found it. We will definitely be going back. We stayed in the Baltimore Room. The bed was BEYOND comfortable and it felt just like my bed at home. The bathroom was quaint and the decor was very elegant. I just can't say enough glowing and positive things about this place. It's a must to see and experience if you're going to be in the area.

Recently we stayed here and had no issues. The service was great, all the workers were friendly. Rooms were clean when we got there, only complaint is the rooms were slightly smaller than expected and the air conditioner was in the bathroom. We stayed in one of the rooms on the 3rd floor. The breakfast in the morning was excellent, lots of variety from making your own waffles, oats, yogurt, and they also have hot dishes everyday (we had different scramble eggs with bacon and sausage). Highly recommend if your in the area.

We appreciated the phone call from Jen giving us our check in details the night we were coming in. Our room was on the third floor and very quiet. There is a dorm size fridge in the hall where one could store refrigerated items. Breakfast was served buffet style each morning with an assortment of hot dishes, fruit, and waffles.

The positives - property grounds are great. Especially if traveling with a dog. Person who greeted us was friendly and helpful. Room was quite large. The disappointing - room didn't smell "clean". It was a pet friendly room on lower level so I suppose some mustiness to be expected. There appeared to be some water stains on ceiling, and possibly some mold around it. Would like at least one bar of bath/facial soap, rather than everything liquid out of a bottle. No tissues. The main rooms of the inn could be great, but this one was not.

This was a great place for an anniversary celebration. I selected the romantic package which included extras such as setting up the room during dinner with roses and candles throughout. We did not have onsite dining, but the package included a gift certificate at a local restaurant which was fabulous! My expectations were met and far exceeded what I anticipated. The weekend we stayed, the spa was closed. That was the only other thing I wished was available to us.

Very inviting and cozy. Quiet, the grounds are beautiful. Service and amenities are awesome. Best time was the hot tub! And walking the trails especially down by the creek.

No one to see me in upon arrival; greeted only by an envelope; no clarity where to park (with other residence-look alike structures being adjacent); no hot breakfast as customary for B&B establishments (offering a mere Continental Breakfast is far below the expected quality of the only inlcuded meal, especially, when the accommodation cost is taken into consideration) and then to offer it within an unreasonable time frame (7:00AM breakfast starting hour are found in abundance at hotels, 9:30AM finishing hour is also largely unheard of for B&Bs; ignored/not acknowledged as a paying guest just like those who received careful attention and orientation after my almost 2 full-day stay; no notification of a friend's long distance purchase and personal note arrangement with someone from the inn for a bottle of wine -until that friend mentioned her gift during my casual phone conversation with her on my last evening at the inn - in sum: too many details about this B&B were and are uncalled for. This stay was not my first or second at this type of establishment. It will, however, be my last at this particular inn.

The atmosphere at Elk Forge is so welcoming! You really do feel like you're just part of the family living in a large estate. We didn't get to explore much of the grounds due to weather but the view made it look like it would be a nice walk/hike. We stayed in the Chespeake room. Everything was so clean and the bed and linens were super comfy! The water pressure left something to be desired but it's honestly the only criticism I can muster. The breakfast was so tasty and they keep a little dish of pastries and cookies out for that midnight snack :) We have already discussed making this a yearly tradition just as a time to reconnect. We loved it!

We greatly enjoyed our stay at the facility. The Country Club suite was extremely cozy and the breakfast was top notch! We loved the 2 room suite and all it had to offer. The bed was nice, the bathroom was clean. All in all, we had a wonderful, relaxing time. We took a stroll on the grounds which was a nice breath of fresh air. The hospitality we recieved was amazing and everyone on the staff was courteous and kind. I would reccommend Elk Forge to anyone looking for a nice little retreat, 5 stars!

My wife and I had a short weekend honeymoon here, and it was a great experience! This is a renovated colonial mansion, which gives it a very interesting look and unique rooms. It was comfortable and well-maintained - we may come back here sometime!
2.8 on December 31, 2015
My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in the Elkton Room with a whirlpool tub. The room has low slanted ceilings over the bed and tub, which could be problematic for tall individuals. It is moderately decorated with a small fireplace for ambiance, but lacks essential space to place your overnight bags. The bed was comfortable with it's soft sheets and the bathroom was very clean. It would have been nice to have a bar of soap or even some makeup remover wipes to give it that extra something. The overall look and feel of the Inn are charming and historic as expected. I only gave it a 3 star rating, because I think it could be amazing if they incorporate some practices that truly make their guests feel pampered. The breakfast was just ok...I didn't mind the buffet style, but I think they could have more variety in what they offer, since they aren't serving each individual. Maybe some homemade muffins, french toast, scones and cookies. Other B&B's I have been too, have some small snacks out for when new guests arrive and that really makes your stay feel extra special. I also think, it would be nice to have a K-cup machine, so guests can have coffee or tea of their choosing at all times. I think it would be a good practice to offer guests a Wifi logon. My husband and I used up 75% of our cell data roaming trying to look for things to do in the area. Stayed December 2015

The room at the Elk Forge was great complete with a fireplace, microwave, fridge, and large tub. Very cozy and comfortable. Service was extremely friendly but hard to find. There wasn't always someone at a main desk to help. The staff did make it clear that if you called the main line someone would always answer but we never used that option. If you are planning a trip to Elk Forge lodge around Christmas time, we would highly recommend calling and asking what is expected during the festival of lights and tour of the Inn. We were not aware ahead of time that we needed to pack our stuff and remove it from our room for several hours on a Saturday night so tourists could view all of the rooms. The festival was enjoyable event but having to pack up our stuff and move it was slightly disruptive and unusual. Other guests felt the same way. The spa/massages were excellent. There really should be two people giving massages for two people as opposed to one person going back and forth. Hot tub was a plus. We enjoyed the breakfast buffets. We would recommend Elk Forge to friends but again, advanced notice of inn tour expectations would have been helpful.

This place was absolutely amazing..... My husband and I enjoyed everything about this B&B aND aother did our daughter ..... we wanted to find a home away from home where we could relax and have fun. The house was lovely and the service was exceptional. We stayed in the brandywine suite that came with the tub that's actually featured on the site and it was everything we hoped for..... If your looking for a B&B that's beautiful, clean, with great views of the surrounding nature this is the place..... They have near by horse stables where u can ride, wine Vineyard, and beautiful hiking trails. I can't wait until we can go back.

I used a Groupon deal for a 3 day/2 night stay here and I'm glad that we did it. It's a cute little place, very intimate setting and the staff really does a good job of providing you with privacy. My only qualm with the place was that there was no one at the front desk to check us in for at least 20 minutes. Someone eventually pulled up tot house and helped us out. Breakfast is good, but is finished being served a little too early. Oh and they forgot to place the flowers I had ordered into my room so I had to remind them.

Went here for a little honeymoon because we're short on cash but it was definitely a great getaway from the norm of things. Immaculately clean and detailed historically kept property. Totally blew my mind with the age and originality of the building but it didn't smell like my grandparents basement! Wouldn't even know it was that old if you were blind. Really a beautiful place. And I'm the husband saying this!

Because weather diverted us from our original destination, we arrived in Newark, DE without a place to stay. Our daughter had biked past Elk Forge and thought it looked nice - and they had a room. So by luck, we discovered a wonderful B&B where we intend to stay each time we visit Newark. The inn is a beautiful historic building with comfortable rooms and spacious common areas with movies and games. Breakfast was excellent. The owner and staff were lovely. Highly, highly recommended.

When you first see the building it just looks amazing, as soon as we walked in to check in we were greeted and shown to our room, given history about the building and it made us seem very welcome there. I plan on going back many times in the future, all the rooms have a certain design theme, I want to stay in a could others just experience them.

My husband and I stayed at Elk Forge Bed and Breakfast for our anniversary getaway. We had a wonderful time at the inn. Our room accommodations were so nice, and breakfast each morning was delicious! We also purchased the romance package which was beautifully done. A dozen roses, bottle of wine, chocolates, roses petals throughout the room and a lovely basket which consisted of a candle, chocolates, bath soaps/lotions. We will definitely recommend your inn and hopefully be back in the near future.

My fiance and I were celebrating our last anniversary of dating before we will be celebrating marriage anniversaries, and we decided we just wanted a quiet little stay away from Baltimore. When booking the room online, the pictures of the rooms were just lovely -- but they were even BETTER in person! All staff we interacted with were so helpful, friendly, and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. We were even upgraded to the Brandywine suite, which was very romantic (fireplace, whirlpool tub, soft bed). Since we were the only guests that evening on a cold, rainy day, we were even given the option of what time we'd like breakfast. THAT really impressed me, since I used to work in hospitality and am used to the strict breakfast hours. Breakfast had a great selection and was delicious; try the teas they have out! And check out their gift shop, where you can buy tea, teapots, and souvenirs. We took a walk around the grounds down to the stream and through the woods before we left, such a lovely area. Their set up for weddings/events looks really nice as well. Overall, AMAZING experience and we will be back!

We had planned to go back to Cancun to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. Being educators within Baltimore City Public School System just made it hard for both of us to take the time off, this year. So I have a dilemma, where shall I take my wife to celebrate our 1 year? I reviewed the comments and decided RSVP for three days and two nights...... Andrew who was on duty was OUTSANDING!!! The atmosphere, the grounds AND the couple massage was incredible....... Also the sweetheart package was wonderful.... my wife loved it!! I scored some major points this past Memorial Day weekend!!! I highly recommend staying at this Bed and Breakfast if you need to relax and get away..... Christopher and Sherri

After a quick wedding we wanted to stay near our home for the weekend as to not be far away in case of emergencies with the kids. So I picked this B&B north of Elkton. We stayed in the carriage house suite. Very large, nice room. Zero complaints with the suite. We thought the staff was amazing, super friendly, and eager to please. They were fantastic. The only thing I was not a fan of was the breakfast portion of it. It was just meh. Ok I guess, certainly not great. Seemed to me like they were trying to be overly fancy with a spinach quiche when everyone would have been happier with eggs and bacon. "french toast cassarole"?? Again... just scrambled eggs and sausage would be fine. If you are some sorta weird health nut there was plenty of breads, and granola, and fruits. But considering its a "bed and breakfast" I found the breakfast part lacking. Other than that it was a great little 2 day getaway. Would recommend.

It was nice and clean, but nothing spectacular. There was free wifi, but other than that it seemed that nothing else had been updated in the last 20 years or so. We appreciated the flexible eating time for breakfast, but there wasn't an overabundance of food. We felt we has to get to breakfast early on the second morning before they ran out of fruit!

This is a quiet, peaceful spot to stay when you are in the Newark area. The inn was elegant and comfortable. We loved the attention to details. Every corner of the inn's common areas had delightful surprises awaiting -- a chessboard, a beautiful fountain, historic stained glass windows, charming accent pieces. We had a great weekend and are looking forward to visiting again.

We really enjoyed our stay. It was very peaceful and a come as you go approach. For example, when we arrived, our keys were left at the front desk with a letter describing where our room was located and what times breakfast was served along with other important info we needed to know. We liked not having to actually deal with anyone. Of course if someone was needed, they could be reached. We will definitely go back. When we arrived, we were also upgraded to a nicer room, still unsure as to why, but definitely no complaints.

I enjoyed staying at Elk Forge. Check in was a breeze, no forms to fill out or any kind of hassle. We were able to check in early with no penalty and our room was ready. The facility is older but extremely clean. The staff was friendly and non evasive. When we were told we had the run of the place, they meant it. There was no hovering or bothering us all the time. If we needed something the staff was easy to locate and quick to be helpful. Breakfast could have been a little more extensive. An a la carte could be offered to those who wish to have bacon or sausage without having to get the egg casserole provided. Also having more than one waffle maker might be helpful. There was a long wait one morning. Over all I enjoyed our time there and hope to return.

This was my 1st time staying at a bed and breakfast and I enjoyed every moment with my husband. We have 3 kids and the 2 days and 2 nights were very peaceful and relaxing. We did not take advantage of the massage therapy, but we took advantage of the whirlpool inside the room. If you are looking for a close, but secluded place to get away... My wife and I stayed at the lovely Elk Forge B & B. Check-in was a breeze and the room was bright, cheery, and comfortable. They use a brand of bed sheet there that makes sleeping sooo easy. The food was good, but, the only criticism I have was my own doing. My wife has numerous food senstivities and I neglected to make the owners aware. Had I let them know, I'm sure the morning dining would have been better suited to my wife's needs. The owners and the staff are wonderful. Elk Forge is a great value and definitely the place to .stay in Elkton.

The rooms were nice and clean and the house is beautiful. The outdoor hot tub was great on a chilly evening. I was unable to pull up detailed photos of the rooms on the web site so I was quite surprised how small the room was and that the ceiling pitched very low, causing a few head bumps. The jacuzzi tub in the room worked beautifully and was very welcomed after a day of hiking. The only workers we saw there was the maid and someone at breakfast whom we assumed was the owner as she never introduced herself. Everything was self-serve including the small buffet breakfast. But, they were responsive when we called them on the phone with a question about the television. Beds were comfortable. There is a close by train track that features quite a few freight trains going by during the night.

We arrived 10 minutes before they left the front desk and the attendan was more than helpful!! Gave us a quick tour, showed us our room and that was that. We stayed in the Longwood suite and I have to say, it was the best room we've stayed in in a while. We've been all over the world(Japan, Canada, UK, New Zealand) and although it wasnt "luxury" that's not what this place is. It has a home feel to it yet is still spectacular. Incredibly clean, smelled amazing, HUGE living space, fantastic bed, I mean there is nothing negative to he said. I 100% recommend.

Wanted a few nights away from it all, and using the Groupon, I got what I paid for. We had the most basic room, with no real frills. The room was neat and clean, but very basic. The living areas were warm and friendly, and with no TV's or loud noises, we had our night away from it all. I expected more from the breakfast, but this was my first B&B, so my expectations could have been too high. If I had paid full price, I would have felt like I deserved more. But I do feel like I got what I paid for.

My boyfriend saw this on groupon and I've wanted to go to A bed and breakfast forever. This place was a great choice. I loved the old Victorian house, the furniture the paintings and just the whole set up was beautiful. The staff gave just the right amount of help they weren't overbearing, it felt like it was our own house for the 3 days we stayed. A very enjoyable peaceful stay, We will definitely be coming back!

I went to school at the University of Delaware and never heard of this place. Who would've known that it could be so great. Our room was nice and cozy and the Jacuzzi tub put it over the top. Great service as well. I am definitely coming back.

It was my fiancé's birthday so I was looking for a nice getaway for the weekend. I stumble after the place and seen all the good reviews so I book it. It was quiet and relaxing, and the staff was very friendly and help with anything we needed. They provided a tasty breakfast every morning. I would definitely stay here again.

Celebrating our anniversary for a two day stay at the B&B was quiet, warm, comfortable and relaxing. We stayed in the Wilmington Room and although small, the bed was comfortable, the two person whirlpool tub was fabulous and the electric fireplace kept us cozy. A romance package of flowers, goodies, chocolate and wine was set up by staff and well done (candles too). We stayed at the end of January and a bit of snowfall was quite beautiful.....but the grounds would be even better in the spring or fall! Most of all, the quiet nature of the location was peaceful and relaxing.

This B&B was a refreshing escape. We enjoyed the scenery, the food was good and the rooms cozy. It's location was secluded yet close to anything you may need.

I was skeptical about Elk Forge Bed and Breakfast but once I got in room it was lovely. We stayed in the Brandywine room for our anniversay getaway. I love the atmosphere, the decor and the quaintness. The rooms were clean, but the shower needed some maintenance, because the set up that they tried to put in place I had to do some maneurving to take a shower, thank goodness for the bath. The breakfast was great the first morning, the second morning not sure what they tried to put together but it wasn't nothing to write home about, thank goodness for the cereal and toast. Also the wine selection was nothing as it was listed and we had to settle for something else and it wasn't chilled either. Had to settle for something that they had in stock. We overall enjoyed our stayed but will ensure when we come back we have somethings in place. The staff overall was friendly and nice. I would recommend the Inn to friends and my wife is still talking about our trip.

We live in Philadelphia and just wanted an easy getaway in the middle of the week. It was everything we wanted and more! Everybody was so nice, and the building was so charming. We will definitely be back!

My wife and I spent 2 nights in the middle of October 2014, stayed in the Wilmington room. I felt the room was a little small, but bed was very comfortable and room was clean as was the bathroom. The doors to the bathroom were not snug nor soundproof though. Breakfast was very nice both mornings, only complaint is the coffee is in those over sized thermoses and really didn't hold the heat. This is a very old building and is kept nicely as is the property, the staff is very friendly and engaging, asking you how you slept, what you did that day etc. I would go back if we were spending time in that area again.

First, I must say this is a great place. I was pleasantly surprised to find something so nice this nice close to Elkton. It's also nice that it's only 15 min or so from Christiana mall. I was slightly disappointed with how small our room was because I imagined it slightly larger from the very few pictures online. There are very nice suites but they were sold out, so I settled for one of the third floor rooms. But only slightly disappointed. It was a nice, clean room and had everything we needed for a romantic retreat: bed and hot tub. Something so simple (and with an old tv, with spotty cable, some channels missing sound) could be cheaper, but overall, the whole place is very nice, and I certainly don't apply the cable issue necessarily to the B&B. If one goes to a place like this for the cable, that's kinda sad anyway, but I'd recommend new tvs in the coming months. I read other reviews that criticised the food. they must have remedied this. The food is excellent! It is a continental breakfast with many options, including a delicious homemade granola. I must say that if you are one who enjoys being served scant portions of exotic type, gourmet food and chit chatting with the inn keeper, this is not the place for you. The inn keepers are very hospitable and friendly but since I wasn't there to chat, I liked being left alone too. They have movies and games and very nice sitting areas. Solid 4.5 out of 5. I'd go back .

purchased a package for our anniversary. called ahead as planned so the room could be set up. no one got the message. As a result nothing was done. I went to the front desk to inquire. The attendant was unaware of our package, did not listen to the voice mail that was left. The result was him handing me what should have been in our room and saying sorry, but I did not have the chance to listen to the message that was left. I can get the same this at a La Quinta hotel. I expected a little more for the price of the room. On a whole the Inn was OK, but the cost and below average service does not equal a return visit.

Our room had very interesting decor! Didn't see a rose garden as talked about in other reviews and online site. Exterior needs a little sprucing up. Loved all the little common area sitting rooms. Hot water in carafe was a little brown. I think I might return.

Regretfully, we were never greeted by the innkeepers or if they were the same people who checked us in, they never introduced themselves as such. Most importantly, the "breakfast' as NOT what a B&B is. You had to make your own waffle, get your own coffee, the eggs which were cold were in a burner, it didn't start when specified, and NO ONE ever came out of the kitchen to greet us or even assist you with anything you may have needed. I could have stayed at the Hampton Inn! What were they thinking???

We stayed for too short of a time in the Longwood suite. We booked the suite as a retreat after a 18 work day. What a wonderful stay! The sheets felt like satin, there are two fireplaces in the room. It was super clean. There were so many small personal touches. You could tell a great deal of thought went into providing care for each guest. The whirlpool tub was wonderful and the shower was hot. Really one of the only rooms that was worth the money! This is a must see!

We chose this lodge because it was a halfway mark between two destinations. We loved the hot tub and the lodge is very pretty. Our room was amazing for the price, and very private. The vending machines didn't work well and the convention room looked like it was storing some Christmas stuff--not sure what was up with that. I will come here again. The hosts were friendly and accomodating. The breakfast was good, too.

My husband and I enjoyed our recent stay at Elk Forge B&B. We originally booked a room and much to our surprise were upgraded to a suite upon our check in! The suite was fantastic, the bed you could just melt into and the grounds were beautiful to walk. We also indulged in tandem massages in the spa and truly enjoyed ourselves. We highly recommend the Elk Forge whether you are needing a night away or more the service and friendly staff were top notch!

We had a wonderful relaxing stay at the Elk Forge B&B and Retreat. Our room was cozy and we enjoyed soaking in the Jacuzzi while watching television!!! The breakfast buffet was outstanding. The dining room and living room were so beautifully decorated, but above all, the warmth of the inn keepers was memorable. P.S. Please give Dubbs (dog) a KISS for us!!!

We found Elk Forge to be delightful place to stay as we celebrated our anniversary. It was clean and quiet and very well decorated. Breakfast is served at dfferent times on different days. We were unable to eat on Monday since it was late (8:30-10) and we were driving 2 hours to the Kutztown Folklife Festival. It was 7-8:30 on Tuesday, which is more to our liking. There was a good variety of items to choose from (waffles, quiche, bread pudding, fruit, homemade granola). I have special dietary needs and they were able to accomodate my needs with almond milk and the offer to fix me some eggs.

The Surrey Suite, 2 bdrm. bongalow layed back at the end of property was exactly what we looked for, peacful & quiet! Coming from the excitment & movement of the boardwalk in Atl.City to this tranquial setting of clamness was a sure bet to end our vacation time!! The Grounds are simply beautiful, my favorite is the picture perfect view of the rolling road over the Elk River, beautiful ! The trails are nice too. The dining experience with tranquil water flowing from the lovely fountain in the middle of the salarium, peaceful music enlighten the setting! Compliments to the Chef, bkfast with our stay was great!. Elk Forge exceeded our expections. Thanks, Harry & LeAnn. We will be returning for our August Anniversary, just the setting we love! My boyfriend and I stayed at Elk Forge this past weekend and it was worth the travel and expense. We stayed in the Fairhill Suite which is so cozy and well kept. The house is decorated very nicely and smells wonderful! Every flower that was there was real which was one of my favorites! We got the romance package which came with couple massages at the spa on-site, a gift certificate to Caffe Gelato a fantastic Italian restaurant in the town of Delaware, a basket of goodies that was left on the bed for us, fresh roses sprinkled over over the room and a whirl pool tub for two! There is so much more to say about this place but this is a review, we highly recommend this B&B!

The inn is beautiful. There were several things that we liked. The room (Country Club Suite) was beautiful. Very spacious. The grounds were beautiful. It was so nice after a busy day of sightseeing to relax in the double chaise lounge on the deck outside our room and listen to the water in the pond and the birds. It was so relaxing. The breakfast was very good. And the best part was the couples massage that we had!!! The people are very friendly and it is definitely a place that we would return too. What a great anniversary weekend! Thanks!

The house was beautiful! We had a Living Social deal that had expired but they took the money I had paid for it, we got the fall special and it was a good value. We stayed for 2 nights. Everyone was friendly and service was fast if we needed anything. This was our first bed and breakfast and it exceeded our expectations. We also had a couple's massage and she was wonderful, very relaxing. I've read reviews that the breakfast was bad, I thought it was a nice spread and the food was good. If I have the opportunity I will definitely go back!

Really enjoyed our stay at Elk Forge. The grounds are lovely, the tea room is warm and inviting. The massages so relaxing. We really enjoyed all the variety of teas to try. We truly enjoyed our stay and can't wait to visit again:)

...because there are so many relaxing things to do. Our group spent the day at Longwood Gardens, could have used another day for the Wyeth Museum (?) in Chadds Ford. The Inn is in Maryland, but minutes away from attractions in Delaware and Pennsylvania also. If you are visiting the University of Delaware (parents weekend, homecoming, etc) this would be a great place to stay. We would definitely go back and highly recommend it. Harry, LeAnn and Andrew really put themselves out for their guests. We did not experience the high tea or the spa, but the breakfasts were fabulous.

Spending time away from home on Christmas can be a challenge. Will the location be home-like, cheerful and family focused? Elk Forge Bed and Breakfast exceeded our expectations. The environment was warm and friendly from the start. We enjoyed the room which was clean and welcoming. The breakfast, especially the sausage used on Christmas day, was super. Finally the family members that own the Elk Forge are just plain nice people.

Stayed January 2012 on a business trip going from Baltimore to Philly. Beautiful location, wonderful "at home" feel. Can't wait to go back and say again with my wife.

I had never been to a Bed and Breakfast before so I was unsure of what to expect. I found this one for a great deal on groupon and it could not have been more perfect. Elk Forge is in a lovely location, the whole property was so quaint and cozy. My boyfriend and I loved our room (which was huge) and its amenities. We were thrilled they have such a great dog policy. It was a perfect way to spend New Years, we will definitely be back. I highly recommend this location for anyone who wants a quiet getaway.

We stayed at the Elk Forge B&B to celebrate my birthday in November. Our room was absolutely beautiful. We loved the jacuzzi and the gas fireplace. The sitting room was a perfect place to relax and unwind. The bed was so comfortable we never wanted to get up. We enjoyed the breakfast in the solarium. The staff were very helpful and friendly, making sure that we had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. The grounds were beautiful. The surrounding area has a lot of very interesting towns and historic sites, which we enjoyed visiting. We are really looking forward to a return visit to this Inn.

It was a relaxing vacation and I would recommend Elk Forge Lodge to anyone looking for a cute relaxing getaway.

Our recent stay at Elk Forge was everything we were looking for. The Country Club suite was gorgeous. The view outstanding. Andrew was friendly and most helpful. Had a most relaxing massage in the spa too. If there was anything I would change it would be to include some hot items such as bacon, sausage, etc to the breakfast buffet. However there was ample food for all to enjoy. Loved listening to the doves laugh and coo as we enjoyed our breakfast!

Elk Forge is a great place for a quiet retreat from the world. The Chesapeake room that we stayed in was quaint and comfortable. Our couple massage was a totally relaxing experience. We were celebrating our 60th Wedding Anniversary, by staying here for the first time last week. This was only our second exposure to the B & B scene. Everyone was pleasant, obliging and very attentative to our needs, even changed our room assignment to the first floor due to my problem with the stairs. Our "Chats" with Harry were really enjoyable. Loved the doves and their "good morning" greetings during breakfast. Their close proximity to the Chesapeake made it a good "homebase" for sightseeing. Can't wait to return. Nancy & Al

My husband and I stayed for 4 days/3 nights. It was the most relaxing getaway we have ever had. We loved the whirlpool tubs and spent time in them each day. Breakfast was wonderful-a plentiful assortment of fruit, breads, cakes, waffles, yogurt, eggs, etc. The Lendermans are wonderful - they are there when you need them and out of sight when you are enjoying the lodge and grounds. We recommend ordering the romance package for the first evening to enjoy the flowers and goodies for your whole stay. We look forward to many returns.

A great, quiet and relaxing get-away, pleasant owners, VERY accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rooms were VERY clean, quaint and comfortable. The price was right, especially with the on-line special. The Continental Breakfast was less appetizing than we expected, but the owners are "open" to suggestions. My guess is that, it will be up-graded. The old, but well maintained house has a VERY bright Great Room with very large windows, cooing Doves and a wonder view. It is a three-story structure, with basement facilities, but there is no elevator for Handicap persons. That can be a problem, if stairs are a problem for any guest.

We had a wonderful time and enjoyed our stay. Simple breakfast, which consisted of toast, bagels, muffins, waffles and fresh fruit. The lodge was very relaxing and everyone was exceptionally nice and helpful. They made you feel very comfortable. Good location and close to many restaurants, malls and sites to see. My family also had a great time horseback riding at the Painted Horse Ranch stables which were right down the road. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you again. The Florio Family. :)

I was pleasantly surprised at every turn. Every room was well appointed and clean. Staff was helpful, but not underfoot. Decorating was pleasing to the eye and restful to the senses. Even the doves cooed and giggled with us. A very nice respite during a grueling business trip. I will certainly recommend this establishment and will considering staying again.

My wife and I had a wonderful anniversary get away at the Elk Forge Inn. Although while at the Inn you feel like you are in the middle of no where, you are close to many attractions and urban areas. The thing we liked best was breakfast in the bright sun room with the sound of the fountain and the view of the garden. To top it all though, was the caring concern the innkeepers had for us. While there, our car was towed to a shop in Delaware leaving us feeling quite helpless. Harry drove me to the shop, waited to make sure everything was ready, and lead me back to the Inn. He turned a bad day for us into a wonderful one. Now that's a great place to stay!!

I really enjoyed myself here. The room that we had was very nice and clean. We spent most of our time in the room and didn't venture out too much. I had a massage while there and it was even more relaxing. The only downside was the breakfast. I was looking for a homemade breastfast spread and was really disappointed upon arriving for breakfast. They breakfast was kinda buffet style with hard-boiled eggs, fresh fruit, apple and orange juice, muffins, make your own waffles, yogurt, and hot coffee and tea I may come back again but will not eat breakfast here. The second morning we ate at the waffle house.

I enjoyed my stay at Elk Forge. I loved the old world style of the room, the big comfy bed and most of all the lovely grounds. After a long work day I felt I had escaped to a country retreat, even though I was only 15 minutes away from my client in Newark DE. The grounds include walking trails and a putting green and there is a large deck with ample tables to sit and contemplate or take your breakfast outside. The common areas were spacious and lovely and the buffet breakfast was very good. My only complaint and it is a small one is the wireless internet access is not secure. I will certainly be back & recommend it to friends!

Our host was delightful and very accommodating. Things I would have preferred to make the room better: two ply toilet paper instead of single ply; a full length mirror in the room; better in room lighting for reading; better mattress. Breakfast not as good as some B&B's; was sort of like Hampton Inn breakfast. There is absolutely nothing going on nearby so you have to really want to get away and stay away. Closest real attraction is Longwood Gardens which is 30 minutes away.

The room (Elkton on third floor) was very nice, though chilly and a bit crowded. Bed was very comfortable. Getting enough hot water to fill the jacuzzi was a challenge. Enjoyed the hot tub outside however. Grounds were beautiful with walking trails, but being beside a busy road with construction was a drawback. Overall enjoyed our stay and would come back.

But for the internet listing, I'd never have found this beautiful creekside haven. The main house dates to circa 1760; Washington must have slept there! Breakfasts are great in a lovely room (or outside on the deck) overlooking the grounds and shared with cooing doves in the corner. Highly recommended.

However, once we arrived and saw the beautiful scenery, gracious and helpful hosts, we were immediately satisfied with our decision. The atmosphere is so laid back an peaceful, it is almost impossible not to relax and enjoy yourself. We loved how the staff was there when you needed them and not pushy or in your face. We were also given many good tips on places to go and see. I will definitely bring my wife back here for another stay, it is very rare to receive such great customer service.

Excellent experience. Beautiful B&B. Suite was perfect. The continental breakfast was more than satisfying. Great massage and facial. Loved that it was pet friendly and enjoyed spending some time exploring the B&B's woods with my dogs. You really will feel that you have escaped the hustle and bustle of everyday life when you stay here - it is like a trip back in time. Eclectic but charming. For the number of people staying there, it was very quiet. I recommend this B&B for a relaxing stay.

My only issue was that the hot tub was not available every night. If you are a runner (or enjoy scenic walks) the nearby Fail Hills Nature preserve is a serious added bonus. I will definitely return.

You really will feel that you have escaped the hustle and bustle of everyday life when you stay here - it is like a trip back in time. Eclectic but charming. Wish we had more time to sit and read on the terrace, do the hot tub and explore the property. Very convenient to the Brandywine area attractions and good dining!

Excellent experience. Beautiful B&B. Suite was perfect. Service was exceptional (Thanks to Harry and crew). Even the continental breakfast was more than satisfying. Great romantic spa/massage service for two. Good suggestions for dining in nearby Newark, DE. Cafe Gelato was a great recommendation. Even enjoyed the "putting" green out back. Only downside was a bit of traffic/train noise; but not enough to divert our attention from a relaxing week-end away. Kudos to Elk Forge. Thanks so much.

Stayed Saturday and Sunday 3/19 and 3/20. Fair Hill Room Harry was very accomodating without being overbearing. Clean rooms. Nice Jacuzzi tub. For the number of people staying there, it was very quiet. Plenty to eat at breakfast. Excellent make your own Belgian Waffles. Did not take advantage of he on-site Spa. You can not bring your own alchoholic beverages as they have a Liquor License. I recommend this B&B for a relaxing stay.

Very quiet relaxing stay, convenient location and be sure to eat at Fair Hill

I enjoyed my stay overall. The two things that were negative were the train tracks 50 to 100 yards from the cottage I stayed in. At 6:30 both mornings, the train tracks and horns started rattling and blowing and woke everyone up. The second negative was that the breakfast was lacking. It was continental style and I've stayed at other B&Bs where the breakfast was a full home cooked meal. Other than that, it was lovely and the beds were very comfortable. The staff was helpful and friendly. Not sure I would stay again though because of the train noise.

Through this past year, I have stayed in so many of Elk forge's beautiful rooms. It makes me want to go back an try to stay in them all. Though I really don't have the time anymore to stay at Elk Forge because of other things happening in my life. I just can't wait until the next time comes again....

ca.1700's,high ceilings, stained glass windows,hand-painted murals,Sleep Number mattress, wonderful sheets, jacuzzi, separate shower/ bathroom, spa, bathrobes, +gas fireplace. Most welcoming! Our rm had comfy laz-y-boy type chair+ DVD/VHS player in rm(they lent out older VHS).The breakfast at this time, limited(law passed by MD,Inns with many rooms now need commercial kitchen) but still had lot to offer. Expanded cont. breakfast, includes hot Belg.waffles (MYO)wild blueberries, fresh cut+whole fruits, bagels, toast, jellies+ PB,cold+hot cereals, muffins, boiled eggs+string cheese (so protein for diabetics)yogurts, etc. Really,as much as could offer w/o cooking. Are currently building kitchen. The home itself is Victorian+are using fine china, silver,so still quite nice. Were doing all they could under the circumstances+before law they had great cooked breakfast that they are starting again soon. They were all more than helpful! The owner was very outgoing at bkfst, laid-back+engaging.Youngest son checked us in,also very helpful in getting my computer hooked up to their signal, as well as helping find lots of great local eateries, ("Blue Crab Grille" was fabulous+only 5 minutes away!) He wasn't talkative,(at that age, either was MY son),but VERY nice, courteous, more than helpful+kind to me, both with setting me up+ putting together a "b-day pkg"for hubby. The lady who helped out at check-in was EXCEPTIONALLY helpful, very kind, sweet.Stay was late winter,so rose garden not in bloom, etc, but had white lights on at night, lining stone balcony overlooking lawn, white candle lights in windows. Really, the 1700's building was quite charming+ comfortable! Had putting green+golf clubs ,hammock,2seat swing available for anyone.Everything we saw was clean, comfy, maintained. We thoroughly enjoyed every relaxing minute,LOVED that it was 4 minutes from Delaware,7 miles from PA, so could use this as "home",+venture out to many areas for day trips,(Amish, Longwood Gardens, outlets, Baltimore, etc)!

Me and my husband had a wonderful time at the Elk Forge Bed and Breakfast Inn, Retreat and Day Spa. It was a great get-a-way and I would definitely go back.

My boyfriend and I stayed two nights and can't wait to go back. We live in Baltimore and wanted to get out of the city to relax. Elk Forge Bed and Breakfast Inn was the perfect place for that. Our jaws dropped as soon as we walked in, the place is beautiful. Our room was even better. We stayed in the Brandywine Suite and watching the sunrise from the bed was amazing. We had an issue with the room we booked not being available, but they upgraded our room without hesitation. I've been recommending Elk Forge Bed and Breakfast Inn to everyone I know. We can't wait to go back and stay in the other rooms.

This was our first visit there, and the place was so nice. On the day we were checking out, we mentioned we wanted to get the special ribs but it is a take out place, and the owner told us to feel free to bring the food back and eat in the dining area. We loved the restfulness, the decor and the layout. We will definitely come again. Have told all our friends. The Coopers

Got a good deal -- and it turned out to be great. A "snowed in" weekend, but still got to enjoy the facilities and see some of the area. Though I live less than 60 miles away, experienced some sights for the first time and look forward to a return visit in the spring and/or fall. Don't be fooled by "met my expectations" rating -- I expected the rooms, value, breakfast etc to be very nice -- and they were.

conveniently located between Elkton & Newark, just minutes off I-95. Our room was spacious and cozy. The king size bed sheets were soft and nice. The staff was very friendly, welcoming & accomodating. My wife said her massage was the best she had ever had. Breakfast was fresh, simple and tasty. The Inn is creatively decorated throughout. We very much enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning soon.

We stayed in the Elk Room and really enjoyed the inroom whirlpool tub. The property was beautiful and we have already considered returning in warmer weather to take full advantage. The only downside was the meager breakfast...it reminded us more of a hotel continental breakfast spread than what we would expect from a B&B. Overall, a very beautiful building full of character with a lovely and inviting room.

Greeted by a warm staff, found the inn very cozy and the perfect weekend getaway from the busy city. The rooms invoke you to stay inside all the entire time, but the TV's could have been nicer/larger, but all in all very satisfied.

Great experience. I was writing a book and looking for a retreat, so I spent a lot of time in the building. Staff was very friendly, helpful and interesting.

Seth, Andrew, Harry, Grandma, John, Melissa made my stay a very pleasant experience. I felt that I was visiting family. I was even asked to join the family at their family dinner. The cuisine was just outstanding and I enjoyed my self tremendously. My room was beautiful, with all the comforts of home. It is a real treat to stay at the Elk Forge, with its long ancient history and all the beauties that it surrounds it. I highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast to any traveler in the area. I Thank the Innkeepers for making my stay at the Elk Forge Bed and Breakast such a wonderful experience. T.

Harry and his son Seth are great hosts, with sense of humour and very curteous. Although I arrived very late (10PM?) on this one-day trip, they made a point to welcome me in person, give me a tour and made sure I feel like home. Excellent value, warmly recommended.

My husband and I stayed at the Inn on a Saturday night. The room was clean and comfortable and had a nice nautical theme. We enjoyed borrowing a movie to watch from the library and all of the reading materials that are found throughout the Inn. Our entree breakfast was served to us and there was also other fruit/beverages/baked goods on hand to choose from as well. We would stay there again.

A charming B&B and former pig-iron forge, Elk Forge was beautifully appointed and warmly welcoming and a very soothing experience. Innkeepers, LeAnn and Harry have anticipated every need, leaving you free to enjoy your stay!

I stayed in the Elkton room and it was just lovely. Upon my arrival, I was greeted by a young man who was kind enough to help me with my luggage and show me to my room. Packets with your receipt and other info are left on a silver tray in a main hallway, along with a guide to direct you to your room. I'm glad the young man was there or else I would have been lost. That was pretty much all the interaction I had with any staff as there didn't appear to be any. Breakfast was continental and nice. The accommodations were quite comfortable and it's clear they value small details. I went looking for a weekend of quiet and little interaction with people and I found it. If you are a person that needs to interact with the staff, this is not the hotel for you. If you want peace and quiet, this is the place for you. I also had a 60 minute facial done and it was the best facial I've ever had.

My husband and I stayed here as we were moving our daughter in to college. The building, the room, the grounds are absolutely beautiful!! However, upon arrival, there was no one to greet us, and we had to find our room on our own. We were instructed by pamphlet to order wine or beer at the inn ( it is not permitted to bring beverages from the outside), and when we called to do so, were informed that there was no cold beer. A bit dissappointing after travelling for over six hours!! The only one person we saw that entire evening was very nice, but not terrible engaging. There was only one other guest that we saw. No one greeted us at breakfast, it was continental and just set out for us, the coffee maker was self serve and very much a challenge. The innkeeper came out at our request for help with the coffee, but otherwise was not visible. The Elk Forge Inn is absolutely beautiful, peaceful, and well located, but was a bit lacking in friendliness and approachibility.

We were fortunate to get a terrific internet deal last April. We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite (huge!) for $125!! Be sure to check for internet deals! Lovely grounds in addition to buildings. Very nice dining/breakfast room.

My family just stayed at this B&B and loved it. Their property is gorgeous! They have very nice accomodations and a lot of ammenities you dont traditionally get in a B&B (internet, hot tub, etc) They also have great walking trails you cant miss. We ate breakfast on their patio overlooking the grounds. It was really relaxing. My husband and I are putting it on our list of a B&B to definitely revisit.
