About Malibu

Gorgeous accommodations fit for a movie can be found on a Malibu getaway. Hotel alternatives like large and boutique inns, private homes, villas, and charming cottages are filled with jetted spa tubs, and more. Sumptuous breakfasts are followed by appetizers and wine in the afternoon and evening. Private garden patios and plenty of parking are more creature comforts guests can savor.

Hike the National and State Parks

A scenic drive up or down the Pacific Coast Highway is the leisurely route to three outstanding parks with hiking trails for bird- and wilderness-watching. The flora is not to be outdone with selections of exquisite native species such as horsetail and fern showcased. Point Mugu and Topango State Parks as well as Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area will not disappoint.

  • Point Mugu State Park: Surfs up where this pristine wilderness area meets the Pacific Ocean. Enjoy a bit of whale and dolphin watching or swim with seals. Pack a picnic, because all the activities available will make the day a long one. Return for a repeat performance during low-tide to walk across the bridge that joins the land and beach sides.
  • Topango State Park: Hiking to the lookout at this state park offers vistas for miles. Stay nearby in Topanga for instant access on foot. Over 60 trails open to 11,000 acres with the Santa Monica Mountains as a backdrop. There are 36 marked trails with myriad others meandering to Topanga Creek and breathtaking canyons and valleys. The nature center and petting zoo are must-sees before heading to the Backbone Trail System that wind along the mountains.
  • Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area: Several State Parks are encompassed by this archaeological wonder with its high artifact content. It has another distinction with an ecosystem similar to the Mediterranean region. Over 150,000 acres have trails yet to be explored with Balance Rock located on Mishe Mokwa Trail. Westward Beach is a prime location to observe migrating gray whales or go for a quick dip.

Spend the Day at the Beach

Malibu beaches have a storied history because of famous residents and expensive properties. However, a cousin is just down the coast in Venice. Waters are warmer with several local attractions and events ready to be explored. During the trip, locations will look familiar with the boardwalk and park seen in a variety of movies. Roller skate or skate board on the 17-mile path that runs along sand or pay a visit to infamous Muscle Beach Gym. Boogie and surf boards can be rented from vendors that line the boardwalk so enjoy the waves.

Walk in Your Favorite Star’s Footsteps

Grauman’s Chinese Theater is centrally located on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The entire journey spans 18 blocks on Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street with picture taking opportunities. Return after a bite of tasty pizza at Stefano’s to take in the latest movie. After the show head over to Pig N'' Whistle Restaurant for a little celebrity gazing.

It Is Always Sunny in Malibu

It never rains in Southern California is more than a popular song lyric. Tourists appreciate this climate feature as they plan year round getaways with stops along the coast or inland. There''''s the smallest chance of rain during spring and fall, and the clean waves in September through November are perfect for surfing. Temperatures remain warm to dry with loads of sun and winds alternating between the ocean and mountains. Winters are practically non-existent as far as snow or plunging thermometers are concerned.
