We stay at a lot of B&B's, including this trip, and this is in the top 3 of ALL the B&B's we have ever stayed. Everything from the reservation process to departure was outstanding. We have never stayed in a B&B, for example, where they had DVD's of the area and activities! The food was outstanding and the ambiance was superb. We highly recommend this to anyone in the Bar Harbor area.

This was my second visit to the Primrose Inn. It was wonderful...just a I expected it to be. The Inn Keeper and her helpers were just awesome at taking special care of me and my traveling companion. I plan to visit again in the next year or so.

We were in room 1 for four nights, a nice room wth a balcony. Despite the cool weather we sat on the deck a few times. Good size room with two reading chairs. Excellent breakfast and coffee. Afternoon tea with a cookie or sweet. The owner is wonderful as are the entire staff. Looking forward to going back ASAP. Rick and Louise.

Very nice place ... great service ... awesome breakfast ... feels like being home not at a hotel ...

Everything -- every detail-- about the Primrose was just perfect. Beautiful, clean rooms, amazing food (breakfast and afternoon tea), sweet sweet ladies keeping it running, easy walk to town...all of it, just perfect. Would stay again and again.

I can't say enough about our stay at the Primrose. The house and grounds are immaculately kept and our room was perfect - large and roomy, yet very comfortable. And everything was spotless. The staff was very accommodating and we've never seen a more organized B&B with every little detail taken care of. I highly recommend staying here and we will most definitely be back!

We will definitely return to this lovely inn. The rooms are exceptionally clean and quite lovely. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Walking distance to Main Street. Everything was just right.

A wonderful and cozy Bed and Breakfast. Very close to shopping and restaurants. The staff was wonderful and the breakfast was delicious.

The staff at the inn was extremely helpful with concierge details about the area. The inn was very clean and the breakfast was excellent. I loved that there were two entree choices everyday along with the continental selections of fruit, cereal, and pastries. I loved afternoon tea which was a sit down affair with lovely sweet choices. The inn keeper was one of the nicest we have ever known.

This is our second stay at the Primrose. We stayed here three years ago and liked it so much we asked for the same room again and brought friends with us. They do not disappoint, I have some food issues and they were more then willing to accommodate all my needs. The location is great just far enough out of town for a quiet and peaceful sleep but close enough to walk into town for restaurants and shopping. I would highly recommend this lovely, well run B&B.

Melissa and staff were great , food and location cannot be beat. Chris.

This was perhaps the best B&B we have ever stayed at. Room #16 was very spacious and comfortable. I did not see any other room so cannot comment but #16 was perfect. It is a modern room not filled with antiques to raise the cost. The food was great with two choices for breakfast. About 1/2 mile from downtown Bar Harbor and very direct access to Acadia N.P. We would definitely stay here again.
4.4 on September 27, 2016
Bar Harbor is generally not an inexpensive place but the Primrose provided a good value because of the very convenient location and breakfast and parking included in the rate. It was an easy walk to the village green, where we could get a free bus to Acadia National Park, as well as walk to the main business district and harbor area. Quaint, comfortable, and quiet rooms.

3rd time at the Primrose, starting to feel like home. It's always a pleasant surprise when the owner remembers you from a past visit. Breakfasts are always delicious and filling, giving us plenty of energy for a days worth of hiking on the mountain. Stayed in 3 rooms so far. This trip we stayed in Room 8, which is the least expensive room they offer and also the smallest. The room was a little cramped, with our extra hiking gear, but the addition of the private porch, to sit and relax, more than made up for the smaller room. Last time we stayed in Room 5, which had 2 rooms with a day bed in the second room to spread out our suitcases. The bathroom was a little small but overall was a great value for the extra size of the room. My favorite, but most expensive, so far is the Leffingwell Suite. Plenty of room to spread out, a perfect king size bed, very large bathroom and to top it off a private porch in the back. When the kids are grown and out of the house this will be the room I get on every trip. On a final note, the location is perfect. About a half mile from town. Close enough to walk but far enough away for a more relaxing experience and a lot less noise.

Everyone was so friendly and helpful during our stay. The environment created by the staff made all guest feel comfortable and relaxed. I really appreciated the dietary accommodations made for me, and the breakfast and afternoon tea were delicious.

We were on our honeymoon and managed to grab the last available room here. It was on the first floor and less expensive than the others, so we were prepared to "settle", but excited to be going to Bar Harbor and Acadia anyway. We were pleasantly and greatly surprised by the size of our room! We had a separate seating area, plenty of room in the sleeping area, and a full bath. Every afternoon the tea and pastries were delicious. The freshly made breakfast was amazing each morning. It was hard to decide on one, so we each got something different so we could share. Every need was anticipated and met. They had water bottles, drinks and snacks available to help yourself to anytime. The coffee and tea were also always available. There was an extensive library of materials to borrow about the area. Binders of local menus were at our disposal as well as useful recommendations. There were even umbrellas available to borrow! Overall a great experience and I wish we could have stayed longer!

Great service, owner on site and taking a very personal interest in your stay. Rooms well appointed, comfortable and clean! Easy to walk to all great restaurants. We would definitely return to the Primrose Inn.
5 on September 06, 2016
We stayed at the Primrose for four nights and were overjoyed with our decision. Last summer we stayed at a different Bed and Breakfast in Bar Harbor for three nights, for nearly the same cost as four nights at the Primrose, and we thought the Primrose was better overall. The Primrose offers a helpful and happy staff, a nice and spacious room, delicious food, and a quick walk to the local restaurant shops, without a gigantic price tag. Thanks Primrose!

We had a great time at Primrose Inn, our rooms were beautiful and beds super comfy. Perfect place to rest after a long day of hiking in Acadia. Breakfast was better than most B&B's I have had in the past. Walking distance to all the restaurants in Bar Harbor. Would recommend to anyone. ~ The Patels

A absolutely wonderful Bed and Breakfast. The rooms, staff and food were fantastic. The Primrose Inn is easy walking distance to the center of Bar Harbor and the staff was very helpful recommending the must do's during our stay!!

We can only say positive things about this site. Everything about it surpassed our expectations.
3.8 on August 18, 2016
The location of the inn is just great! It is walking distance to a fun town, with plenty to keep you busy. It's not right on main street, so a few short blocks away, so also not too noisy. The inn was very user-friendly and able to accommodate whatever you needed (had water bottles that you could get before bedtime). The rooms were very clean and the staff was all very nice. An overall great visit!

We stayed for two nights on a weeklong trip driving along the coast of Maine last week. The Primrose was a shining star among the Inn's we visited during our vacation. The location in Bar Harbor is perfect, the accommodations were wonderful, the staff welcoming and very helpful, sharing the important tidbits of information to help with dining and tour recommendations. We are already planning our return trip!!

The Primrose is top notch in every way. We were greeted by Maureen at the door with a warm smile. She gave us a tour and showed us to our very nice room. Afternoon tea was excellent. Breakfast was even better. Best of all, my wife loved the total experience!

My wife and I were hesitant about staying in a B&B but we are now big fans! From the moment we checked in, all our needs were met including some we didn't even know we had. Our room was very spacious, with a separate bathroom and a private balcony overlooking the gardens, which we enjoyed a glass of wine on. The instant-on gas fireplace was very nice after a cold rainy day hiking in Acadia. The host shared much valuable information such as hiking trails, scenic drives, and restaurant suggestions. Instead of an assigned time, breakfast was served over a 90 minute span, allowing for flexibility. It was also served at individual tables for those of us not looking for small talk with strangers in the morning. The food was delicious, offering a choice of either a sweet or savory entree. Plenty of unexpected extras were included, such as a refrigerator stocked with cold complimentary bottled water and soft drinks, a wine chiller, glass wine glasses, cork screws, coffee, hot tea and many others. We are planning on returning for a longer visit and more hiking in Acadia and will definitely be staying at the Primrose. again.

Beautiful Inn in an old well maintain building, conveniently located within walking distance from harbor and short drive to park, nice breakfast, afternoon cookies and free unlimited bottled water and soda. Pleasant staff with good knowledge of the area and wealth of information to share. We loved it!

My three sisters and I stayed in two lovely rooms at the Primrose Inn in July 2016. We are all agreed--it was a wonderful stay! The rooms were spacious--one had a separate seating area and the other had its own outdoor porch with rocking chairs and a porch swing. The breakfasts were delicious: stuffed french toast, quiche, blueberry oat brule just to name a couple of favorites. Cold water bottles, soda, and tea were available 24 hours. Early coffee was especially nice as one of my sisters and I are early risers. Innkeeper Melissa Collier DeVos and evening front desk staffer Maureen could not have been more accommodating. The location was perfect--a couple of blocks from downtown Bar Harbor. Quiet yet near all the action! All four of us highly recommend the Primrose Inn.

4.4 on July 11, 2016
The rooms were lovely and the bed was very comfortable. The location was perfect for walking downtown to explore Bar Harbor. The breakfast and afternoon snacks were great; however, since we wanted to hike the park before the crowds we weren't able to enjoy breakfast every morning. The breakfast we enjoyed on our last day was delicious. If we had waited to eat breakfast at the Primrose, we would not have arrived at the park until after 9 and the hiking parking lots would have been full. We would recommend the Primrose.

We had a wonderful experience during our stay. The staff was wonderful. We would recommend the Primrose Inn to anyone looking to visit Bar Harbor.

Four days and three nights in Bar Harbor. Primrose Inn made the visit to the great island even better. EXCELLENT service and food, convenient walk to water and Main Street. We stayed in #15 and the room was spacious and spotless. Definitely recommend to anyone looking to stay in Bar Harbor.
4.6 on July 02, 2016
We enjoyed our 5 day stay here at the Primrose but only had a chance to enjoy breakfast because we wanted to get to the trails to hike before the crowds. We didn't want to wait until 8 to eat breakfast because by 10:00 most of the parking lots for the most popular trails were full. I wish we could have requested an earlier breakfast time especially because of the 4:45 sunrise. We didn't want to waste a minute of hiking on such beautiful days. We did enjoy a delicious breakfast on our last day. The afternoon snacks were enjoyed by all.

The breakfast and pastries are outstanding. The great movie selection is a nice touch.
5 on June 17, 2016
We stayed here for 4 days this June. Everything was as advertised, and we were treated very well. The place is spotless. The room was very comfortable. Location was great for town access. We don't eat breakfast but the other guests seemed o really enjoy the meals. But it is the little things that put them over the top. Guide books to borrow for hiking. A cd guided tour of Acadia. A ciller for your wine. Complementary snacks. Homemade baked goods for afternoon tea, with some left out and wrapped for whenever (usually coming in late). The housekeepers leaving us a card and small gift for staying there... All very nice and added to our experience!

This was our first time in Bar Harbor and we always look to stay in a place where we can walk to everything. The Primrose Inn was perfect! It is located right in the town and everything was great. We stayed in room 4 which has a king size bed and a beautiful bathroom. The room was decorated well with attention to detail. Breakfast was excellent and you can really see how Melisa takes great care of her house. Very clean and well organized. Will definitely stay here again.

We keep coming back to Primrose Inn. The rooms are traditionally decorated with antique furniture and the mattresses are top-of-the-line comfortable. Gourmet breakfasts and 4 pm teas are served by warm, friendly hostesses. Each room has a DVD player and TV, supported by a library of classic and academy award-winning movie DVDs. Within walking distance to down-town Bar Harbor.

We have made this our annual anniversary b&b to stay out. It's cute and perfect and the rooms as well as the extra services are always superb.
5 on June 05, 2016
The Primrose Inn is a magnificent Bed and Breakfast with richly accommodating amenities both in the rooms and the public areas. In-room fireplaces are toasty on rainy, cool May days. Our King bed was a delight; not too soft and not too hard and the linens fresh and clean. The coffee/tea stand is always full and offers a wide variety of options as does the kitchen-like amenities area that provides complimentary water, soft drinks and snacks. The wine cooler comes in handy, too.The staff are always smiling and gracious and helpful. This was our second year to stay with Melissa and staff and we could not have been more pleased. We have found our home away from home in Bar Harbor. We look forward to many happy returns.

I picked this Inn because of the afternoon tea - a perfect end to a day looking at gardens on the island! After we stayed the first time, my husband and I decided we liked it so much we wanted to come back and stay again. We've been back 2 more times and love it!

This was a lovely B & B and the staff were warm, friendly and helpful. I find the rating system a bit difficult. I thought the B & B was exceptionally nice, but I expected that it would be, thus the rating that it 'met my expectations'. The rooms were nice, the staff provided a good service, the food was tasty, the location convenient. Overall a wonderful stay.
5 on November 09, 2015
We arrived before check in time but the room was ready and we were checked in. The owner gave us a tour of the house to show us where everything was. A CD of the Acadia Natl Park Loop Rd was available (we used it and it was great). Also provided was a list of the local restaurants and a map of downtown Bar Harbor. The room was clean and tidy and very comfortable. Afternoon tea was great with at least two items prepared in the house kitchen - delicious! For early risers, as we are, there was coffee and snacks ready at 5 AM and breakfast was served at 8 AM. Breakfast was a choice of two main items and the usual toast, bagel, coffee or tea. Downtown Bar Harbor was a short walk from the house. Overall it was a wonderful stay and we would stay there again.

This was our first stay at a bed and breakfast and it was wonderful!!!! The inn keepers were so friendly and pleasant!! Our room (room 5) was very nice and cozy and it was a great size. The inn itself was just beautiful and very cozy. Breakfast each day was delicious too! The inn was within walking distance to town so it made it very convenient to walk to a restaurant each night and to the shops. We will absolutely visit Bar Harbor again and when we do will definitely stay at the Primrose again!!!

Our visit to Primrose Inn October 12-14, 2015, was absolutely delightful. The attention to detail is obvious throughout. Brochures and local information table (including a very nice self-guided Acadia Park tour CD/packet). Nice snack room with beverages and snacks 24/7. Fresh cookies and cake in the afternoon. The Inn's own personalized flower vases and coffee mugs. And a very nice breakfast service, with freshly-made hot selections made in the Inn's kitchen and served to your table or a selection of continental items you serve yourself. Well-organized breakfast room can handle a continuous crowd very pleasantly. Kudos to the friendly, efficient staff and Innkeeper for presenting a top-notch Inn. We highly recommend the Primrose Inn!

One of the best B&Bs we have stayed at. Great breakfast and afternoon tea, friendly and helpful staff, spacious rooms, within walking distance to downtown. We had a wonderful stay!
5 on October 26, 2015
We stayed during the last week of the season. The staff could not have been more friendly, attentive and skilled. Breakfasts were superb with two excellently prepared choices each day. Rooms were spacious and very clean. The 24/7 water, soda and coffee as well as a solid DVD library were a nice touch, too. We were sad to leave! We will definitely stay there next time we go to Bar Harbor.

We would stay at the Primrose again should we ever return to Bar Harbor. I do think that the owner and chef could work on upgrading their breakfasts. For the cost of a stay, I think that the breakfasts should be taken to the next level. While the presentation was lovely, the food was just average, and the servings small. Location was great, rooms were lovely, innkeepers friendly and helpful. We had a problem in our room, which was taken care of immediately and thoroughly. We did enjoy our stay, and would recommend the Primrose Inn to fellow travelers.
5 on October 20, 2015
We stayed here for three nights at the end of September 2015 as part of a tour around New England. The room was exceptional , perfectly equipped with everything you could need. Our hosts made us very welcome from the start .It was an ideal base for exploring the town of Bar Harbor the centre of which was a 5 minute walk away and Acadia National Park which was within easy driving distance. Delicious breakfasts and afternoon tea offered each day.
5 on October 20, 2015
My wife and I have stayed here twice, and it is hands-down the best B&B we have ever stayed at, Bar Harbor or anywhere else. Melissa and her staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and you can tell they love what they do. The inn is clean and well maintained, and the all the food served is great. Can't say enough good things, so just stay here if you're in Bar Harbor! We're already looking forward to our next visit!
4.4 on October 11, 2015
Very nice bed and breakfast. We had room 10 which is on 1st floor just down from the kitchen. Room was comfortable but bathroom is on the small side and needs a few more shelves to place your items. Sitting room before going into bedroom is nice. But would be nice to have a chair in bed area too since that is where the TV is located and you really can't see from the bed. If TV was hung up over dresser would give room more space and you could see from the bed. Breakfast was very good. If you forgot anything, they will help you out. Free coffee, tea, water and soda available all day. Assigned parking space which is very nice. For room 10 right out back door. You can hear some noise from room above you, so if that might bother you, you might want a second floor room. Easy 10 minutes walk down to shops and great restaurants. Most have happy hour and early bird from 4-6pm. Inn provides CD for park and has lots of information and tours for the area. Only complaint we had was you can not control the temperature in your room. We were very cold from our walk back and heat would have been nice, but the air conditioning was on.

This was our first time in Bar Harbor and our first stay at a B&B and we loved the Primrose. The staff was great and made us feel welcome from the very beginning. The Primrose had all of the advantages of being in our own home but also reminded us everyday that we were on vacation. Melissa thought of everything and her guests are her #1 priority. Highly recommended.

My wife and I made our second visit to the Bar Harbor area in late September to celebrate her birthday with a week's vacation. We could not have made a better choice by staying at the Primrose. We so enjoyed the hospitality, the relaxing atmosphere, the breakfast and afternoon tea times, and the advice for all things local. Our every expectation was more than satisfied.

This is my first stay at Primrose. My wife stayed there a few times. We stayed in rooms #1 and #2 on this trip. The inn fills up well in advance, so book early. The rooms are beautiful, clean and very comfortable. Room #2 has an old fashioned sink in the bathroom (one faucet for hot water and the other for cold), otherwise the rooms are outstanding. The breakfast and afternoon teas are delicious and the best meals we've had at B&B's in Bar Harbor. Well worth it. Primrose is pricey, but it really is on par with other B&B's in the area. You get more for your money there. It is a clean, comfortable, unique and beautiful B&B. Well worth checking out if you're coming to Bar Harbor. We will definitely be staying there the next time we're in Bar Harbor.

Wonderful stay. The service, provided by the owner and her team (she describes as "family") was excellent. The breakfasts were perfect. One in our party had special dietary needs - these needs were addressed. The room was clean, cheerful, and well appointed. We selected the room we wanted in order to have a small, shaded, private porch. We used it often. The location was perfect, a short walk to town and the ever important Island Explorer. All in our party highly recommend the Primrose Inn.

5 star from the beginning! We stayed for 5 nights and loved every minute of our Bar Harbor/Acadia experience. The Primrose is impeccably maintained and decorated inside and out. Everything to help plan your time in the area is available. Better than a visitors center. Attention to every detail a 5+. Bed/linens most comfortable ever. Every breakfast and afternoon tea selections superb and not to be missed! Minutes walking to everything - tons of dining choices, super market, great shopping on the streets of Bar Harbor and literally on the doorstep of spectacular Acadia Nat'l Park. My wife and I both agree that what made our vacation so memorable was the actual people that make the Primrose B & B so wonderful! Upon our arrival we were greeted by Maureen and given a 5 star introduction! Melissa, her mom, along with Sandy were all some of the sweetest, most gracious, kind and accommodating people you will ever meet!!! Plan your stay a long way in advance though! Lord willing we'll be able to return sooner rather than later!

The inn is well located : you can park there and walk very easily to downtown. We were greeted by a very nice lady who showed us through the house. It was aftenoon tea time so we had a piece of cake and some home-made cookies : a pure delight ! Our room (n°15) had an alcove with a day-bed which was perfect for our 19-year old daughter and a bedroom with a king bed. It was nicely decorated and felt really warm and comfortable. Breakfast was really good with a choice of hot meal and plenty of cold stuff.

Stayed here for one week in August in the Holland room which has it's own entrance and two bedrooms. The room was pleasantly furnished and clean. It had a Jacuzzi tub which we used after a long day of hiking, biking, and kayaking. The breakfast options were very tasty and satisfying. One was always egg based and the other sweet. Lastly, the hosts were very friendly and informative about what is going on in the island. I highly recommend staying here.

We have stayed twice. The atmosphere and aesthetic of Primrose is wonderful, and makes for a very relaxing stay. The rooms are clean and we have slept soundly in the comfy beds. The up to date award winning movies is always a treat. Breakfast is above average, not spectacular, but always good, and they make special gluten and egg free breakfasts that my wife loves. One of the few times she gets pancakes and the like. Staff is very nice, and moved our bags between two rooms for us while we were out for the day. The stay feels a bit on the pricey side, but you really can't do better for a bed and breakfast on MDI in terms of quality or location.
4.2 on August 27, 2015
This is a historic cottage and the historic touches are retained throughout the inn from the cottage to the period furniture. On the other hand there is a gas fireplace, fast wi-fi and a excellent collection of DVD movies - all modern conveniences. The rocking chairs on the porch were lovely. Many rotating inn-keepers/staff but all were courteous, helpful, well-informed. The dining room can feel a tad small but the food is excellent.
5 on August 26, 2015
The Primrose was incredible. Rooms were first class. The cleanliness of the entire property was off-the-charts impressive. The food... delicious. And they thought of everything that you may need to have a nice stay. Assigned parking closest to your entry way, ice machine, complimentary wine, bottled water, movies, tour guides. You name it. Melissa was gracious. This place was my best experience ever.

My wife & I stayed 4 nights at the Primrose Inn in mid-August. The inn is located a few blocks from the main shopping street in Bar Harbor on a quieter street. Our stay was memorable, from the beautifully decorated room, wonderful late afternoon treats provided and scrumptious breakfasts. The staff has thought of everything to ensure a great stay. Highly recommended!

My husband and I had the great fortune of staying at the Primrose Inn for 3 nights. My only complaint is that is too few days to enjoy this lovely B&B. Our friends recommended it to us and it exceeded our expectations. The rooms were very comfortable. Coffee available at 6:30 am was a real plus for us. Breakfast was a real treat! I am a vegetarian and they always had an option for me. Teatime in the afternoon was something to look forward to every day. We met some very nice people as the atmosphere is so relaxed and friendly. The staff I'd outstanding! I would stay here again for sure. Honestly I really did not want to leave. Lisa and Paul

Perhaps we had the best room and the most convenient room. It was a short, easy walk to shops and harbor and the village green and park. We didn't have to drive anywhere and found the inn very relaxing and quiet. Melissa and staff were cordial and made us feel welcome. Afternoon tea was a real treat and breakfast was great with enough cereal and breads to stand alone without a choice of entrees, but the entrees were not to be missed. We will return and recommend this to everyone. We found this very good value and the best place we stayed on our road trip.

Beautiful gardens, perfectly appointed rooms with fabulous sheets, delicious breakfasts, thoughtful all-day munchies and beverages, and a short walk to restaurants and shops - all topped by the warm, friendly, knowledgeable innkeepers. This was one of our best-ever B&B experiences. We would recommend the Primrose Inn without reservations to anyone planning a visit to Bar Harbor.

One of the finest B&B's we have ever stayed with! Good job Melissa and Maureen.

No need to spend time online searching for a great place to stay in Bar Harbor. Primrose Inn is conveniently located, bed and linens are exceptionally comfortable, and Innkeeper Melissa is a delight. Breakfasts and afternoon baked goodies can't be beat. All of our requests were cheerfully accommodated.

We had a few wonderful days at Bar Harbor. Thank you Melissa and all others for all the great tips and for your support in every question. If we ever have the opportunity to come back to Bar Harbor, the Primrose Inn will be our very fist selection.

We stayed at the Primrose Inn for a divine 2 nights. We hated to leave. From the beautifully decorated room, to the very comfortable bed, to the Jacuzzi tub, and the gas fireplace, no detail was left out. We felt so relaxed and breakfast was delicious. The innkeepers were so friendly and thought of everything. They even have GPS's available and full menu guides. We can't wait to come back. 10/10!

Our room was comfortable, clean and quiet. The breakfasts and tea sweets were fabulous.

We stayed at the Primrose Inn for two nights on our travel up the coast of Maine. It was the best experience of our holiday. The attention to detail was perfect in every way and we are looking forward to our next visit.

My husband and I have gone to the primrose twice now and bother times have been amazing. We have a lovely time in Acadia and always love the accommodations at the primrose. The snacks and breakfast and overall service are superb.

Our visit to Bar Harbor was made very special because of our stay at the Primrose Inn. The inn is very welcoming and the staff made us feel like friends. The location is truly a very short walk into town where there is lots to see and do. If we visit Bar Harbor again we will return to the Primrose Inn. From the breakfast to the bed linen everything was very nice but the owner and her staff really made us feel welcome to the inn and the area..

We had a delightful experience at the Primrose Inn. Mary was a gem and the food was delicious! We will definitely come back!
5 on October 25, 2014
Stayed at Primrose for a girls getaway weekend during foliage. The Holland room is cozy and comfortable - it works well for 3 people. It's hard to find accommodations for 3 girlfriends, but these rooms fit the bill perfectly - even the day bed in the 2nd room was comfortable! Breakfast each day was perfect - not a ton of food, but just enough to start the day off on the right foot. Primrose's location was perfect and although not on the ocean, you could easily walk around Bar Harbor from the Primrose. I highly recommend this B&B to everyone!
5 on October 21, 2014
This is the second time staying here and won't be the last. One of the most welcoming and warm places to stay in Bar Harbor. Will certainly be on our list of places to go back to.
4.4 on October 19, 2014
Had a wonderful time in Bar Harbor, staying at Primrose Inn. Far enough away from the hubbub to be quiet, but within walking distance of Main Street. Loved the Holland room - huge, comfortable bed, great shower, parking right outside our room - no stairs. Loved our stay there.

The innkeeper at the Primrose Inn was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious. Good location as you can walk to the harbor, shops, and Catholic church. Innkeeper recommended the restaurant, Havana, for dinner and it was one of the best meals we have ever had.

Everything from the service, the rooms, the olive oil gift, the breakfasts, the afternoon tea, the dvds... this B&B is worth every penny!!! We had such a memorable weekend, I would definitely return!!!
5 on September 20, 2014
We were greeted by lovely Mary and given our tour! The list of amenities went on and on as she gave us the tour. They don't leave you wanting for anything! All needs are taken care of. Complimentary bottles of water, sodas, teas, coffee, snacks, a cooler for your wine, wine glasses and home made goodies! They provide a GPS for the geographically challenged like me, audio DVD tour of the Acadia National Forest as you drive through, cozy rooms which are clean, fresh and lovely. Much to choose from in the living room for reading and games. Breakfast is prepared by a local chef in the beautiful kitchen and Melissa the owner was our hostess and extremely personable with us. We will definitely stay at the Primrose Inn again!

I loved my stay at the Primrose Inn. I would stay there again easily. I am an incredibly picky eater and didn't love the food, but my experience with dining was completely satisfactory. My partner loved the food.

This was our first stay in a B&B and it was everything we had hoped it would be. Friendly staff, beautiful grounds, comfortable and private rooms, and delicious breakfast food that sent us off for days of sight seeing and hiking. Melissa and her staff do everything right! We have already recommmended the Primrose Inn to family members. They won't be disappointed.

The Primrose Inn is absolutely perfect! It's well located in Bar Harbor, close to everything but still quiet at night. The rooms are well appointed and very clean and comfortable. The silky sheets on the beds are an added bonus. Everything you might need is at hand, tea & coffee all day, cold beverages and water, ice, snacks, DVDs, books to read . . . they've thought of everything. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the breakfasts are wonderful. They give you a couple of choices and everything is delicious. (Home baked items are usually included too) I highly recommend this lovely Bed and Breakfast in Bar Harbor. You do better for the price.
5 on August 29, 2014
My husband and I highly recommend the Primrose Inn! We stayed in room #9 for 2 nights in August. As an added bonus to this delightful experience, we had a private porch swing and fireplace. Melissa and Maureen were welcoming and helpful. Great stay!

I was very impressed by my stay at the Primrose Inn. Mary was very welcoming and gave us a tour of the building when we arrived. The rooms were very comfortable and prettily designed. The food at both breakfast and afternoon tea were excellent! I like that we had our own parking space designated for our room. The inn is within walking distance to downtown Bar Harbor. I would stay here again!

Our stay at the Primrose Inn was absolutely wonderful. From the ultra clean rooms and very comfy beds to the delicious food it was superb. Add the friendly and pleasant personality of Mary the host and we were very pleased with our two day stay at the Primrose Inn. Keep up the good work. We will be recommending your inn to our friends and family.

We traveled to Bar Harbor as part of a week long summer vacation in Maine. We are from Texas - I'm in my late 20's and my husband is in his early-30's. We booked the Primrose after seeing that it was ranked well on Trip Advisor. We arrived at the Primrose and were immediately impressed by the curb appeal. There is one parking space for each room, which is a nice amenity in a town that can be quite crowded! The location is great. It's off the beaten path, so quiet, but close enough to the "downtown" area to walk. To me, this was the best location we could have chosen. The innkeepers here have really thought of everything a tourist could want in a place to stay in Bar Harbor. The ones we used the most were the large library of guides on activities in the area, and the small kitchen area that was always stocked with refreshments and snacks. We borrowed the audio guided tour of Acadia National Park the first day, and it was a great way to get an overview of the area. We also borrowed one of the hiking books for some suggested trails, which we did on the 2nd day. The accommodation was fabulous. This place is immaculately clean. I don't know how they keep up with such a large house so well! Our room was #6 located on the 2nd floor, and it was very quiet for having rooms on either side - they must have done some good sound-proofing when they turned it into a B&B. It was cozy, and the perfect size in my opinion. You really don't need a huge hotel room in this area, as you'll spend most of your time wandering around the area, and being outside! The bed was one of the most comfortable I've stayed in. The food was good, and there were enough options every morning to please all tastes. The service was great - Maureen & Melissa are very nice and helpful with any questions you might have about the area. We will definitely consider this place when we return to Bar Harbor, and will recommend it to family and friends!

4.6 on June 30, 2014
This is a charming B & B, close to town and the harbor. The staff was gracious and accommodating. They have thought of everything, even down to the papers being available on Kindles, afternoon tea, guided CD tours of Acadia National Park, a makeup washcloth (genius), and satin sheets! Breakfast was great. I highly recommend The Primrose Inn to anyone looking for a charming, convenient spot to stay in Bar Harbor. Melissa even helped us plan the last leg of our trip by suggesting a visit to Boothbay, which we loved! Thanks for a lovely visit.

We loved our 'honeymoon' stay at Primrose Inn. It was my husband's first trip to the island and we both so appreciated the comfort, centrality and help of our stay. We only partook of breakfast, which was average - except the fantastic blueberry waffles! Highly recommend it!

My wife and I recently stayed at the Primrose Inn for four nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The staff was very friendly and helpful and went out of there way to give us information about the local area. The breakfast and afternoon snacks were outstanding each day. The location is within easy walking distance to all the main shops and restaurants in Bar Harbor. We will definitely be coming back again.

My husband and I stayed 3 nights in Room 1 of the Primrose Inn. Loved our room, very spacious with a huge bathroom and a separate hall leading to our balcony (I love balconies!), all enclosed. Dining was grand, somehow we always made it to afternoon tea, a real treat. Breakfast didn't disappoint, loved how we had the choice of either sweet or savory menus. Our hostesses were attentive and engaging. I gave 5 stars for value because we got so much for our money, even our own reserved parking space. And yes was an easy walk to downtown dining, ect. On our 2 week trip to New England we stay at many wonderful inns, the Primrose was our favorite!
4.4 on September 16, 2013

Attention to every detail is thought out. Very friendly & helpful staff. Rooms are not sound proof and could hear other tv from one room and their muffled voices. A wonderful inn to stay and would go back.
4.8 on November 04, 2012
The Primrose Inn is beautiful and in excellent condition. The staff are very friendly, accommodating, and helpful. Our room #10 was spacious and very comfortable. The breakfasts and afternoon teas were absolutely delicious! The location of the Inn is great-a few blocks away from the shops and restaurants in downtown Bar Harbor (we and the evening staff woman at the Inn recommend Rosalie's Pizza) and a short drive to the entrance of Acadia National Park and the road to Cadillac Mountain. The Inn has CDs available to borrow that are a narrated guide through the park, which we found very informative and helpful. The Inn has a good-sized collection of DVDs to borrow in your room, as well as a public computer with a USB port, an SD card slot, and free Internet access. Near the shelf of DVDs is a back counter with complimentary snacks and a mini fridge with soda pop and bottled water. The only drawback we experienced was that the walls and ceilings were thin, so we could hear muffled voices in the evening and snoring at night. Turning on the ceiling fan helped cover the noise.
4.4 on October 22, 2012
We stayed October 3-4, 2012, at the Primrose Inn. The rooms were lovely and well stocked and included extras like six different bubble bath scents for the jetted tub, makeup remover pads, nightlight, push-button fireplace and a flashlight for, well, whatever you might need a flashlight for. Unfortunately, the weather was unseasonably warm and we didn't get to use the fluffy down comforter, the handmade quilt or the fireplace. Breakfast was everything we hoped it would be and the fresh-baked goodies at Tea Time were yummy. The Primrose Inn is just a short, pleasant, scenic walk to downtown with all the shops and restaurants. There is a wine chiller for guests to use and an extensive library of DVDs. The Primrose provided us with a CD which narrated our tour of Acadia National Park, which was quite informative. If you are traveling to Bar Harbor, I don't know that you could be any better than the Primrose Inn.
4.2 on September 24, 2012
The household staff was uniformly pleasant and helpful. An easy walk to downtown Bar Harbor. conveniently situated on the main road. All good. Frank & Judy

The inn was exactly what I expected. There is really not anything additional you would need during your stay. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating.
4.6 on August 06, 2012
This was our second stay at the Primrose Inn. Since our last stay the inn has changed hands and we were a little concerned about changes. However everything we loved about our first stay was still available from the excellent breakfast, clean and comfortable rooms, to the wealth of info about the park that can be checked out and used for hiking, etc. The new owner wasn't as visable and not as many verbal recommendations were given. Overall we love this inn, one of our favorite anywhere, and would stay again on a return trip to Acadia.
5 on July 27, 2012
Magnificent stay. Fell in love with the crew. So clean and confortable. We were litterly spoiled. The breakfast was to die for, not one, but two choices (sweet or savory). It was hard to choose. We will definitely be back. Thanks Melissa, Maureen and the rest of the crew. Oh, and yes, our hats off to the chef. Joe , Vicki and Candy

We spent 10 nights at Primrose Inn in June 2011. We can both say, without a doubt, this is the best overall B&B experience we've ever had. Jeff and Catherine are friendly, helpful, fun and so hospitable, not to mention Catherine's exceptional culinary skills (you won't lose weight here!). They have thought of everything to make their guests as comfortable as possible. We didn't want to leave!!

My wife and I stayed a the Primrose Inn for 4 nights in May, 2011. We loved it! The owners are so friendly and helpful and they went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The breakfasts were wonderful, and were the mid-afternoon snacks. We were amazed at how well organized the inn was, from the ordered selection of local restaurants to the grouping of DVDs by award winners to the numbered parking spots! The location is very nice, the food is great, but it is the owners that make this inn so special. Highly recommended.
5 on June 03, 2011
My wife and I just enjoyed a three day stay at the Primrose. We have traveled extensively and have stayed at many B&B's but the Primrose has no equal. Not only was our room immaculate, charming, and located in the heart of Bar Harbor, but the hosts, Jeff and Catherine have created the next level in short-term vacations. When we arrived, Jeff gave us a tour of the facility and began showing us details that set the Primrose apart from the rest. In the parlor there were two KINDLES with the daily WALL STREET JOURNAL AND THE BOSTON GLOBE! Next we were given a CD/map with an auto-tour of ACADIA National Park on it. We spent an entire day using the auto-tour and throughly enjoyed the experience! The inn has WIFI, free beverages and snacks and cheese-cake in the fridge for late night foraging! Every morning a monitor in the hallway had the weather forecast posted and you could log onto the internet to check your emails. Breakfast was unbelievable. Gourmet. Pure and simple. There were even loaner GPS devices that you could take for the day with way-points set for restaurants, site seeing, and points of interest. Not to mention a fresh copy of the BANGOR SENTINEL propped up against the door by 6:00 a.m.! In short Jeff and Catherine have gone the extra mile in producing an environment that was safe, restorative, and classy. Do yourself a favor- stay here. Thank you Jeff and Catherine for special 27th anniversary experience.

My husband and I stayed at the Primrose Inn this past weekend to enjoy the foliage in the area of Bar Harbor. Every detail was meticulously thought out at the beautiful inn. We felt like we were home and Jeff was so pleasant to deal with. The room was spotless and comfortable and we enjoyed the selection of movies and books to choose from. The breakfast was very nicely done, and it was a pleasure to have so many amenities available. I highly recommend this to anyone. Hope to be back next year.

What a great choice we made to stay at Primrose Inn! We just completed a three night visit and everything about it was perfect. The inn is quaint, comfortable, and conveniently located. Jeff and Cathy are welcoming hosts who have thought of every detail to make your trip special. The breakfasts, which are lovingly prepared and served are delicious. The rooms are nicely decorated and inviting, as is the entire inn. Our only regret is that we couldn't have stayed longer.
5 on October 01, 2010
The Primrose Inn was so perfect in every way. It was so beautiful, quaint, cozy, & also pristine in decor & cleanliness! Jeff & Catherine were such gracious hosts & made us feel so at home. The breakfasts & tea times were amazing. I actually couldn't wait to get up in the morning in anticipation for the breakfasts. The Inn is also a short walk to many activities, including one of the most quaint shopping areas on the waterfront, & to catch great lighthouse, etc., cruises. The beach nearby is gorgeous on its own but has paths to climb up on cliffs to see a "high up" endless view of the Atlantic ocean! Breathtaking! You will do yourself a great disservice to miss out on a stay at The Primrose Inn!
5 on September 24, 2010
Everything about the Primrose Inn was perfect! The Shaw's have thought through every detail for an excellent stay. We are trying to figure out how we can get back next year.

Catherine and Jeff provide a positively wonderful B&B expereince. Their attention to detail is unprecedented. From the check in and welcoming tour to the creative dining everything was perfect. Will recommend the Primrose Inn to any of our friends going to Har Harbor
5 on September 01, 2010
Where to start? There were so many GREAT things about the Primrose Inn. Jeff and Catherine thought of everything to make our stay the best experience of any B&B we have stayed at to date. A gourmet breakfast with choices; afternoon tea and dessert; 24-hour coffee and tea with travel cups in case you want to view the sunrise from Cadillac mountain; Full menus from all of the restaurants in Bar Harbor; Two GPS devices to get you to some of the popular out-of-the-way places to eat and visit. Did I mention the room was great? And I know I am leaving some amenities out. I can't give the Primrose Inn a higher recommendation. It was everything we expected and much more. Thanks Jeff and Catherine for a great stay at your wonderful B&B.
4.6 on August 28, 2010
Lovely. Everything can be summed up in that word. Our host and hostess, Jeff and Katherine were delightful...friendly, helpful and very welcoming. The B & B itself was well maintained, very clean, and very pretty. But the best part of our experience was the attention to every little detail possible that would enhance our stay. We loved our private porch (with swing, and rockers, and lovely garden--not to mention the friendly cat!)And--we loved the afternoon tea--it was something we looked forward to every day after a busy day in Acadia or Bar Harbor! We certainly hope to return to the Primrose in the future!

My husband and I were vacationing in the New England area and chose the Primrose Inn and we are certainly glad we did! Jeff & Catherine were such nice people. They made you feel so welcome the entire time. We did enjoy the short walk to the shops in Bar Harbor. The afternoon tea with the delicious homemade cookies was a nice touch as was the newspaper delivered to our room each morning. We could not think of anything we needed that was not already provided at this B & B. Thank you Shaw's for an unforgettable experience.

I recently stayed at the Primrose Inn in late August 2009. It was better than any other bed and breakfast I've ever stayed at. Extremely clean and the innkeepers are very nice and hospitable. Moreover, breakfast is absolutely phenomenal! The hot dishes and bakery items served are worth writing about! Plus, there is tea time in the afternoons with fresh baked goodies. My dad loved the blueberry pie, and I just loved the cookies. It was hard not to spoil dinner! I would absolutely recommend this bed and breakfast to everyone!

My husband and I stayed at the Primrose Inn for a weekend, and could not have asked for better accommodations. Jeff and Catherine were courteous, friendly and helpful from the time that we arrived to check in until we left. We stayed in the Holland Room, which was beautiful and impeccably clean. The breakfasts were great, as was the daily afternoon tea. We are already trying to plan our next stay here!

The current innkeepers have done an amazing job restoring the Primrose while preserving its charm and friendly atmosphere. Great food. Immaculate rooms. Lovely landscaping. Handy Internet station for checking the weather. Our favorite new feature is the beverage center where you can start your day with an early cup of very good coffee, pick up a complimentary bottle of water, or chill your own bottle of wine. Morning delivery of the Bangor News is also a nice touch. My husband and I honeymooned at the Primrose in 1988 and return every 5 years. The Shaws made our 20th anniversary very special with a bouquet of roses to welcome us. They are lovely people.

We stayed at the Primrose for our honeymoon in August, 2008 and stayed in the Holland room. It was so beautiful and romantic! The room was warm and cozy and very clean. Catherine and Jeffrey are so kind and provide top notch hospitality. Great restaurant recommendations as well. For breakfast, you have a choice of hot entrees and everything we had was delicious. Hot coffee, tea, and juice always available. Worth the money! If we come back to Bar Harbor, we definitely would stay here again.

We come from England and stayed in the Primrose in in June 2008. We did not want to leave. The breakfasts and afternoon teas were homemade feasts. Everything in the room was in keeping, including the phone and little gold clock. The attention to detail with everything was remarkable. Thank you

Our stay at the Primrose was wonderful. The hospitality was superior. Jeff and Catherine did not miss a beat making our stay totally comfortable. The food was outstanding too.

The Primrose Inn sets a new standard for all that a bed and breakfast can be! Our stay there far exceeded the expectations we came with. Other guests we stayed with felt the same way! Jeff and Catherine are gracious and hospitable innkeepers with a talent for making delicious and filling breakfasts. It is evident that they have a passion for what they do. The inn is within walking district of the harbor, shops and restaurants, and is a short ride from Acadia National Park. We eagerly look forward to returning again in the future.

My husband and I cannot compliment Jeff and Catherine for the service they provide. We stayed in Primrose Inn in May of 2008. We were really impressed with how comfortable the rooms were, the bed was SO GOOD, especially after long day of hiking, the rooms are very clean, the linen is of very good quality. The breakfast is great and afternoon tea with the home made deserts exceeded all our expectations. And the prices are very reasonable. Highly recommend!

Stayed at the beginning of June. Lovely inn, very near to quaint downtown and oceanside path. Tea and breakfast were wonderful. Wanted an early supper, so pie was held for us. Also have travel info, computer/internet, wine, soda, and dvds available to guests. Very friendly, but not "hovering". Wonderful church workers discounts.
4.6 on May 27, 2008
The rooms were beautiful, the service friendly, and the food was truly AMAZING!! My only caution would be that the owners are evangelical Christians; there are Bibles in every guest room on the bookshelves (along with a copy of _The Purpose Driven Life_), and in the living room are books by Dr. Laura and Tim LaHaye (_Left Behind_, about the "rapture"). Some folks may find this great, others might be uncomfortable. Just an FYI!
We are very pleased that our guests enjoyed their stay here at the Primrose Inn recently. We are also thankful for the items that were mentioned in the review about our background and some of the many books that are provided to our guests around the inn. One other item that was not mentioned in the review is the verse on the small bronze plaque by our front door from Hebrews 13:2: "Be not forgetful of Hospitality, for by this some have entertained angels unawares." This verse, in simple terms, states our mission to all guests that come to Bar Harbor and stay in our home, the Primrose Inn.

We stayed at the Primrose for 3 days and a wonderful experience. Jeff and Catherine are great hosts and made us feel completely at home. The Primrose is just outside the main traffic hub of Bar Harbor but an easy walk to everything. We were concerned about it being too far but that was not a problem. Jeff & Catherine provided excellent suggestions about restaurants, activities and were always willing to help. We can't say enough good things about our experience -- we will definately be back.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Primrose Inn for our honeymoon and had an amazing time. The rooms were immaculate, and there were even a dozen roses there to congratulate us on our marriage. Breakfast and tea was always delicious and Catherine and Jeff really go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. Cleaning staff was also very nice and attentive. A small fridge is always packed with cold drinks and hot coffee is usually available too. They provided lots of brochures/pamphlets with area attractions as well as recommending restaurants neaby. Town is only a 5 minute walk away. The inn is beautiful and immacuately kept. We have nothing but kind words to say about both the Shaws and the Primrose Inn, we've been telling all our friends to visit!

We stayed at the Primrose Inn for three nights recently on our mini honeymoon. There are many great things to say about the Primrose Inn. First, the location is perfect. Bar Harbor is a small, but hopping town during the peak season, and the Primrose Inn is in a great location for easy access to all things Bar Harbor / Acadia NP. There is a reserved parking spot for your car which is nice. The innkeepers are fantastic hosts, and obviously take incredible pride in the service they provide. This is evident in many ways. From the fully stocked complimentary fridge with soft drinks and waters, to the binder with all local restaurant's menus and recommendations, to the flashlight in each room making it easy to see while on an evening stroll, to the plethora of guide books and activity books that are available for each guest's use, to the breakfast service each morning, and the high quality linens and towels in the rooms. All was outstanding at the Primrose Inn! We'll certainly stay there the next time we visit. We truly felt right at home even though we were far away from home. Thanks again Jeffrey and Catherine for facilitating our memorable and special stay in Bar Harbor!
