Enjoyed two nights at the Hearthside B & B. Stayed in the only downstairs bedroom, decorated in Churchill memorabilia. Homey feel with great bed and linens. Catherine and Brian are excellent hosts, preparing wonderful, plentiful breakfasts and afternoon cookies. Inn is located on a quiet residential street, within easy walking distance of downtown and the harbor. Recommend packing lightly if you choose an upstairs room, as you will carry your own bags, but this is a delightful place to stay.

My husband and I stayed at this lovely B&B for two nights in August 2016. Location, accommodations, parking, breakfast/snacks, hosts -- all outstanding. Brian & Catherine make you truly feel you are a guest in their home. Walking distance to all you need in Bar Harbor.

The Hearthside B & b exceeding all of our expectations. We visited with another couple and the experience was outstanding. The B & B is beautiful and is pristine in every way. The main floor is beautifully appointed and was warm and welcoming from morning until night. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable and the hosts are friendly, helpful and very accommodating. We would return here in a heartbeat and recommend it highly. The B & B is in close walking distance to restaurants, shops and activities and the hosts are extremely helpful with menus, maps and brochures to plan every activity.

We spent four days at this B&B in May 2016. Other than the weather, it was PERFECT. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The hosts are REAL hosts. The breakfast were superlative. The best eggs benedict I have ever had anywhere in the world. The location is such that you can walk to everything Bar Harbor.

Catherine and Brian where great host, full of knowledge for things to see and places to eat. Would go back again and again!

This was a perfect place to stay while visiting Acadia and Bar Harbor. Catherine, Brian and Joyce and Rich were wonderful hosts. The breakfasts are a great way to start your day( and really delicious!) of hiking, biking and leaf peeping! They also offer(for a small fee) packed lunches which had everything you would want for lunch so you can stay on the trails. Every afternoon there were homemade cookies and lemonade and a place to catch up with what everyone did that day! Coffee, Tea, cocoa and some snacks were always available when we wanted them (love the blueberry cobbler coffee.) I can't say enough wonderful things!!

We stayed at the Hearthside with my Inlaws whilst traveling around New England and we wanted to experience a bit of old worldly charm at least once during our visit. We were not disappointed, our hosts were exceptionally friendly and helpful, Joyce went beyond the call of duty to ensure our stay was one to remember. If I have one criticism it was our beds were not that comfortable. However we felt that it was a small price to pay for such a great visit. Also excellent position for central Bar Harbour.

We stayed here for three days celebrating our 40th anniversary and it could not have been nicer. The house and bedrooms are beautiful and the innkeepers,Brian and Catherine, couldn't have been any nicer. They went above and beyond to make sure that our stay, and everyone else's was perfect. The house is only two blocks from downtown Bar Harbor and easily within walking distance.Brian grew up in Bar Harbor and knows everything about everything there.Breakfasts were varied, relaxed and absolutely delicious. Our next trip to Maine will positively have Hearthside B&B on the itinerary.

My husband and I have stayed here twice before, but this time was with the new owners. We both have special dietary needs and Brian and Catherine did an excellent job making something special for us. We really appreciated it! We stayed in Glass Managerie again and we still love it. The room was beautiful and the bed is comfortable. We both slept well! Hearthside is the first and only place I look when booking for Bar Harbor. We will definitely stay here again!

Good friends...good mémorise...for always...

The proprietors of the inn were warm and welcoming and created a convivial atmosphere that made it easy for guests to meet each other in the comfortable living room and at the communal dining table. Our room was excellent and it was not a big deal at all that we had one of the rooms with our private bathroom down the hall. The only reason I gave the food less than the five stars is that, unlike I guess most bed and breakfast goers--I'd prefer simpler breakfasts without the fancy dishes. An egg, a cup of strong coffee, and some good bread is my fave; despite this I preference I enjoyed the amazing completely homemade pastries the hosts made.

very convenient location, though in future we would consider trying to find a place overlooking the water. Room was great - very well decorated and comfortable. Hosts were very welcoming and inviting. Breakfasts were unique and varied each day.

This B & B is outstanding; it is immaculate and decorated beautifully. It is located on a quiet side street and is within walking distance to everything. The Innkeepers, Brian and Catherine, are wonderful hosts and are beyond helpful. We stayed in the room Wuthering Heights and the bed was very comfortable. We would definitely stay there again.

Brian and Catherine were absolutely fantastic. They made our stay in Bar Harbor something we will never forget.
5 on June 29, 2015
The owners of the Hearthside B&B are its heart. You are (undoubtedly) greeted by Brian with a huge smile, who gives you the rundown of how everything operates there as soon as you arrive. He also gets to know you and has a recommendation for any possible thing you may want to do in Bar Harbor and beyond. The building is conveniently located; my husband and I often walked from there to the shops, restaurants, and harbor. We were on our honeymoon and stayed in the Romeo & Juliet room, which was perfectly private. We spent a little time downstairs one rainy evening playing Scrabble and drinking wine, which was lovely. It was also so sweet each time we came in from an adventure in the afternoon to find cookies and drinks on the living room table. The breakfasts each morning were delicious. Brian and Catherine really bring a joie de vivre to the room that I think infects everyone with a little camaraderie. I wish we could have stayed longer; hopefully next time we will!
5 on June 20, 2015
I have been visiting the Bar Harbor area for work in June for over 15 years. This trip I decided to change up my accommodations and was very pleased. The Hearthside was a very pleasant change . Brian even had special Gluten free offerings for me. Thank you for a cozy trip!
5 on June 10, 2015
Brian and Catherine are amazing hosts, the rooms are beautifully appointed and clean - as is the entire inn - and breakfast is exceptionally delicious and abundant. The Hearthside is on a quiet street and its beds are wonderful so sleep quality is excellent. It's a great value for what you get. Brian and Catherine go above and beyond to be helpful and make one's stay in Bar Harbor a real pleasure. Love that there are no TVs in the rooms. They're more lovely and restful because of it. A stay at Hearthside is a chance to relax, be pampered and get away from it all. Brian has great knowledge of the park, so had many helpful suggestions for exploring it. My only regret is that I couldn't stay longer. A perfect stay.
5 on June 10, 2015
Beautifully decorated, spotless inn. The innkeeper offers excellent advice on activities in and around Bar Harbor. This inn is within easy walking distance of downtown but is far enough away to be quiet. Breakfast was wonderful. Will visit again.
5 on June 05, 2015
We chose the Hearthside prior to departing Canada and were perfectly impressed with the Inn and cannot say enough about the Innkeepers, Brian and Catherin. The location was great, breakfast was fantastic (yummy as my inside kid would say). We stayed 2 nights and visited a good part of Bar Harbor and the surrounding area. I couldn't talk Brian into a round of golf, next time?
5 on June 04, 2015
We spent 4 nights at the Hearthside last week and absolutely loved it. The owners, Catherine and Brian were excellent hosts. We stayed in the Emily Dickinson room on the second floor. It was perfect, whirlpool tub, fireplace, nice sitting area. The location is great - you can walk to all the stores and restaurants downtown. It's only a short drive into Acadia National Park. The 3 course breakfasts were simply out of this world. After a day of biking or hiking there was lemonade and cookies waiting for you in the living room. It was nice for the guests to gather and talk about what they had done that day. Brian and Catherine had lots of great tips about the area and genuinely made you feel like family. We would definitely recommend the Hearthside Inn to anyone going to Bar Harbor.
5 on June 03, 2015
Our stay at Hearthside Inn was superbly wonderful. Our host Catherine and Brain were just amazing and very warm and welcoming people. LOCATION AND ROOMS: If you are looking for a vacation in Acadia, I would totally recommend this place. The Inn is very clean and tastefully decorated. The room that we stayed in was big. The bathroom was nice and towels smelled fresh. Moreover, the Inn is conveniently located at the Bar Harbor downtown and in the evenings you can walk down to one of the restaurants or have an ice cream overlooking the ocean. The shore path is also nearby. THE SELLING POINT: But what was most amazing about Hearthside were Catherine and Brian. It was also as if we were visiting an extended family. The breakfast was elaborate with almost 3 courses. Since I was pregnant, Catherine even used to give us some fruits and bread/muffins for our lunch (This was not a part of the package). It was a very sweet gesture and very touching. In the evenings, we were always welcomed the inn guests and lemonade and cookies/strawberry bread. TO SUM UP: To be honest, we actually missed them after we reached home. Our stay at Bar Harbor definitely became more memorable due to Catherine and Brian at Hearthside Inn.
3.2 on October 31, 2014
Our stay at the Hearthside was very nice. Our room was spacious and well kept. The bed was very comfortable. For us there were a few drawbacks. There was no TV in the room and I'm sure for some people that would not be a problem but for my husband it was. The parking is very limited and very tight in front of the building. I have a new car and I was not very happy about that. Breakfast is served at one big dining room table. I am not a morning person and although the food was excellent I do not like to share my breakfast with strangers making small talk. There were some tables outside but some mornings we were not luck enough to get one. I'm sure for some people these things would not be an issue. In that case this would be a very nice place to stay, It's in a great location close to town and the innkeepers were very friendly, helpful and accommodating.

We have been to Bar Harbor Maine several times and we always stay at the Hearthside Bed and Breakfast. Susan and Barry always provide us with scrumptious breakfasts, and wonderful hospitality. Hearthside is only a few hundred yards from the center of Bar Harbor with all it's shops and restaurants. It would be difficult to find a better place to stay. Hearthside is located within walking distance of town yet on a quiet street. Susan and Barry are very friendly and fun. They are knowledgeable about the area and anxious to share that info - even loaning binocs and blankets and water bottles. Breakfast was varied and scrumptious. There are stairs to navigate but they are wider than most old homes so very doable. We would recommend it to anyone who enjoys B&B..

We and another couple spent 2 nights at Hearthside and it was wonderful. The rooms were large and comfortable with everything you needed. My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hearthside Inn for Labor Day Weekend, 2014. This place was absolutely fantastic!!! I say that with zero hesitation. Everything you want in a B&B. We will definitely stay there again when we go back. Location: 1 block outside of the main eating/shopping area. Perfect location. Always had parking in the driveway and on the street. Really quiet/no loud neighbors. The actual Inn: PERFECT. The facility was clean, cozy and welcoming. We stayed in the Duke of Wellington which I think is one of their smaller rooms, and it was the perfect size. A little sitting area, bathroom and bed are all you need when you are going to be outside the whole time. Every room was different and beautiful. I love the way that they decorated the whole home! I believe it was a house that was 100 years old, and I would have never guessed. Nothing falling apart, all rooms had AC and fans if needed. - they also had a ton of books/maps/information about the area to read and borrow if you hadn't planned or wanted to be inspired by something new. - computer with internet if you need to borrow it. Wifi for all guests. The Owners: Incredibly nice and helpful. They are so friendly that I feel like I"ve known them for years. We loved how Barry gave us a map/mini suggestion session when we checked in so we were immediately oriented to the town and Acadia. He had a ton of suggestions throughout the stay and I never felt uncomfortable asking "Hey, which trail do you suggest?" Actual Breakfast! The breakfast was amazing, and definitely fueled us for the day. We stayed 3 nights and had french toast, omelets and pancakes, respectively, for our three days. (Sitting area at big dining table or outside if you want something private for you and your partner). The best B&B experience I could have asked for!

The Hearthside B and B was fantastic! I've never stayed at a B and B before, and had heard some horror stories to go with my inexperience. After staying two nights with Susan and Barry, I can say that I will never hesitate to visit them when in Maine. The rooms and beds were big and comfortable. The breakfast routine provided friendly atmosphere and good food! Both Susan and Barry were friendly and helpful when it came to tourist attractions in Bar Harbor. Thank you for a fantastic trip!!

The kindest, funniest innkeepers on the planet! The inn is spectacular ... immaculately clean, historical, yet so personal. Ask about the snake basket on the living room table! Breakfast is bountiful, delicious, and in the "presentation is everything" department, they rock! Sleep hard, laugh hard. Great place!

Loved the Emily Dickinson room and your great recommendations for places to eat and things to do in and around Bar Harbor. The location of the B&B close to town made it easy to walk to downtown. Thanks so much for the wonderful breakfasts. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend the Hearthside B&B to our friends!

Wonderful long weekend in Bar Harbor...Hearthside is close to restaurants and shops downtown - innkeepers were great with recommendations and terrific breakfasts! 5 on August 05, 2014
This B&B was wonderful. The room was really nice, so was the weather so we didn't need the air conditioner. Very quiet, but very close to "downtown" Bar Harbor. The breakfasts were exceptional; fresh fruit, fresh baked goods (homemade), a breakfast "appetizer" and then a hot breakfast entre. The hosts, Barry and Susan were very friendly and down to earth and were able to give us a lot of information on things to do and see in the area. I would definitely recommend this B&B.

About the Hearthside itself: I stayed in the Glass Menagerie, a smaller room with a (private) bathroom around the corner. The slight inconvenience of that was more than made up for with the beauty of the room itself. I LOVED the leaded glass windows, the very large window seat, and the small porch off the room. It almost made me wish for rain so that I'd have a reason to stay inside and read. I peeked at some of the other rooms while they were being cleaned - gorgeous. And many rooms seem to have outdoor space. The common areas are comfortable and well-stocked with helpful information about things to see and do. The Hosts: Susan and Barry are very friendly and very helpful. They have great tips about things to do on the island -- and as long-time residents, you should listen to them! The Food: Blueberry-and-cheese crepes (really blintzes for those who know what those are), sausage and a perfectly stunning smoothy in a martini glass on Day One, as the main offering (though other more routine stuff was around, which I didn't really pay any attention to.) So, so good -- and helped fuel a few hours of hiking and climbing with no lunch (except a later afternoon popover) On Day Two, the best eggs-and-bacon-and home fries (and fresh fruit) breakfast ever. It makes no sense that someone can make better eggs and bacon and home fries than the next person. but Susan and Barry did. The home-made blueberry muffins were extraordinary. Again, who needs lunch? The B&B Experience: I've had romantic getaways at B&Bs before and that's what I usually think of when I think of B&Bs, but this time I was on my own visiting my niece. It was great, in large part because Susan and Barry are so friendly -- as were some of the other guests. It was a welcome change from the solitude of solo business travel. In short, I had a wonderful stay at Hearthside Bed and Breakfast and highly recommend it.

Our room was just beautiful and the bed was heavenly. We were in the Winston Churchill suite on the 1st floor and noise was not an issue whatsoever. Breakfast was superb and late serving time was appreciated. Susan and Barry were so personable and easy to talk to, it was nice talking to them and all of the other guests in the house. You can't beat the location either...walking distance to lots of shops and dining and a quick drive to Acadia. We will most certainly be back for a much longer stay next time!

Wonderful stay in a perfect location. Walking distance to everything. Great breakfasts to start the day. Wonderful hosts who were always ready to chat and provide insights on things to do around the town. Comfortable and homey accommodations where you could stay in and read a book during the tail end of a hurricane (which we did) or just stop by to refresh with a cup of tea and baked goods before setting back out to explore. Can't wait to return!

We had a truly excellent stay in this Inn. The facility is in as perfect condition as possible, it is clinically clean, bed and sheets were top quality, and the hosts went out of their way to make the stay enjoyable, but without being intrusive. The food seemed limitless and was thoughtfully prepared. I must confess to being surprised at the quality of the experience for the price we paid. Hotel chains should come and learn from this place. All very good indeed. Richard and Joanne, London

We were invited to accompany our dear friends on this, their 3rd time to Bar Harbor. The first was their honeymoon, returning on their first anniversary, and now their 10th…returning every time to stay at Hearthside. What an honor for us. It was our first time to Maine and won't be our last. The area was lovely and the location of Hearthside was convenient for walking down to the harbor, as well as a short drive to the park for hiking. We chartered a sailboat, ate lobster…repeatedly… and every experience recommended by Barry and Susan was wonderful. They were perfect hosts and excellent cooks :) When we return, there's no reason to stay anywhere else but Hearthside.

We had such a lovely stay at Hearthside! We were in love with the glass menagerie room which had a little private balcony and cute area to sit and read right next to the window. The bathroom was separate but we never bumped into anybody on our way there. The breakfasts were delicious!! Thank you to Susan and Barry for all their generous hospitality! Will definitely come back to visit one day! :)

The Hearthside B&B was the perfect spot for our stay in Bar Harbor. It was within walking distance to the downtown area with its restaurants, the inn was always spotless and quiet, and the beds very comfortable. Acadia National Park was a 10 minute drive away. Breakfasts and fresh-baked afternoon treats were great. They even made fresh gluten-free snacks and breakfasts to accommodate my wife's food allergies. A great inn and a reasonable price.

My husband and I visited the Heathside B&B for the 3rd and longest time this past week and as always it was perfect. The rooms are clean and beautifully decorated in the victorian era decor. The hosts Barry and Susan are one of the main reasons to stay, they are wonderful hosts and make you feel like you are home. The breakfasts are the best - something different every morning. You feel like royalty when you are there - add to that the beautiful Acadia National Forest and you have a perfect vacation!!! Highly recommend this B&B!

We stayed at the Hearthside B&B for two nights. The moment we walked in the building, we knew it was a quality establishment. Susan and Barry were there to meet us and provided helpful tips about the area and what to expect during our stay. We arrived early as we wanted to enjoy as much of Bar Harbor (especially the carriage trails) as possible during our visit. Susan was very accommodating, and let us into our room right away. We were traveling with our bikes, and by the end of the first day it started to rain. When we asked if there was a safe, dry place to put the bikes overnight, Barry quickly responded with access to the basement. Our room, The Winston Churchill, was beautiful! The bed was very comfortable giving us a great night of sleep. I am a fussy traveller and have to give this B&B a full five stars for cleanliness. The bathroom was spacious. The fireplace in our room worked perfectly. The meals were delicious. Before leaving, I just had to know what the rest of the rooms looked like. Were they as nice as the Winston Churchill? Because we were there in the early spring before open season in Bar Harbor, we were able to walk through and see all of the rooms. Both my husband and I agree, every room is impeccable with attention to detail everywhere. This B&B is a treasure! We will be recommending the Hearthside to all of our friends! Thank you, Susan and Barry, for creating such a lovely B&B! Cheryl & Mark

We had a wonderful stay at the Hearthside Bed and Breakfast. Susan and Barry were very helpful in recommending things to do in the area and made us feel very comfortable in their beautiful home. The breakfasts were outstanding and we tried things we hadn't eaten before and very much enjoyed them! This Bed and Breakfast will always be a wonderful memory and if we ever get back to Maine, we will definitely want to stay there again.

This was our first stay at a bed and breakfast and it was simply amazing! Wish we could have stayed longer. It set the bar for the remainder of our trip. Needless to say this was a rare find and one we would highly recommend!

We spent two great nights at Hearthside! We were in walking distance of the harbor and the downtown area, and a 5 minute drive from Acadia National Park- it doesn't get better than this. Susan and Barry were delightful, offering great tips and information on everything from the hiking to the biking to the restaurants, and even the bars that would welcome these Cardinal's fans intent on helping cheer their team on to the 2013 World Series!!! Breakfasts were lovely, delicious and plentiful. We can't imagine there being a better base from which to venture out into spectacular Acadia and its surroundings.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Hearthside B&B in Bar Harbor for perhaps the 5th time, and - as was the case with every other visit - we had a tremendous time. Barry and Susan are great hosts, they provide solid recommendations, and the location of the inn is conducive to a great experience at Bar Harbor.

Beautiful private rooms, delicious breakfast, and friendly hosts.
5 on October 23, 2013
Susan and Barry were such gracious hosts! We truly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again if we venture back to Bar Harbor. Our hosts went out of their way to accomodate my gluten free eating needs and we enjoyed some really great food for breakfast. Thank you so much! The B&B is located just around the corner from downtown Bar Harbor so it's easy to walk over for shops and restaurants.

When we go to Bar Harbor we always stay with Susan and Barry. It's like a second home for us. Conveniently located on a one way street. Easy walking to all downtown locations and quiet at night. You won't be disappointed.

Susan and Barry are the ultimate hosts! They were very welcoming, gave great recommendations about everything Bar Harbor and served elegant breakfasts and afternoon tea and cookies daily. The Inn is located on a quiet street within very short walking distance of Main Street. The lovely rooms are tastefully decorated with Victorian furniture, very comfortable and have private baths. We will definitely stay there again. JoAnne & Joni, Kansas City, MO.

Susan and Barry were outstanding and very hospitable. The BnB was lovely. The gourmet breakfasts were to die for. The shower felt oh so good. I love the key system --- we didn't have to worry about hanging on to the key around town. If I were to come back into the area in a few years, I hope there's an opening at this lovely home.

This is a lovely home in a great location with phenomenal hosts. Susan and Barry made our exploration of the town and Acadia special. The breakfast is tasty...a little different each day, The afternoon snack hit the spot. The pictures on the net matched the house so we had a realistic preview which was also a big plus. That is not always the case., Our room was special and I think each room is unique. I would stay there again and others clearly do.

We've been visiting Bar Harbor and Acadia park for a number of years and our stay at the Hearthside is always a must.

the room was very small and on the road. late at night people were walking by and talking. the next morning the owner susan talked about going to the fair was her reward for working "here" for 6 months.
5 on September 21, 2013
We stayed for 2 nights in September, and this was our third stay at this property. The hosts create a very inviting, homey atmosphere and can advise on restaurants and activities in the area. Our room was beautifully decorated and included two comfortable chairs. It is quiet at night and the bed is extremely comfortable. Breakfast was amazing, with a hot item offered each day. I would definitely recommend this b & b.

We've been coming up to visit Bar Harbor for many years and have stayed with Barry and Susan at the Hearthside. It feels like stepping into your own home (only better) - so comfortable and welcoming. You just can't match the friendliness, cleanliness and overall feeling of comfort when you stay here. The location is so central to everything we want to do. We absolutely love it and will continue to visit as often as we can.

Staying at Hearthside made our trip to Bar Harbor and Acadia incredibly memorable. It was a perfect location to enjoy the national park, as well as walk everywhere in town. Breakfasts were incredible, and our room was very comfortable. We'd love to stay here next time we visit!

This was our first trip to the Bar Harbor area as a couple. After searching and reading review of several other hotels in the area, I decided to try a Bed & Breakfast since I have never experienced it before. Hands down I made the right decision. From the moment we walked through the door to the moment we left, the service was great. It felt like home to us. Our room was cozy and romantic; we stayed in the Romeo and Juliet room. It was perfect and it felt like I was in my own bed at home. During this trip, we got engaged!! Susan and Barry were so accommodating and when we got back to our room from hiking, there was champagne and flowers. Susan went out of her way to call Gaylen's restaurant to reserve us a special table to help us celebrate. I am also gluten intolerant and for breakfast every morning, my plate was modified to accommodate this. The location worked out perfectly. We could drive to the park easily and then walk to downtown Bar Harbor for dinner every night. What a perfect quiet hideaway. We couldn't have asked for anything better. We are looking forward to coming back on our one year anniversary of our engagement!! Thank you Susan and Barry!

I can't think of one negative thing to say about the Hearthside Bed and Breakfast. Susan and Barry were incredibly friendly and made us feel welcomed from the beginning. Our room (the glass menagerie) and bath were both larger than anticipated and I adored the window seat and private balcony. Breakfast was outstanding. It started with delicious fresh fruit and the blintzes were divine. The location is great and everything in downtown Bar Harbor was well within walking distance. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

I just completed a stay here with a friend and it was perfect! We stayed in two different rooms and each was was so clean you could eat off the floor! They each had their own style. Even though we didn't use it the Emily Dickinson room had a small fireplace with two chairs you could sit in. Canterbury court on the thurs floor (up 2 flights of steps) was simple and clean and all we needed! The breakfasts were cooked fresh for each person each day. The Eggs Benedict were delicious as was the quiche and French toast. Also could not have asked for better hosts. They were so friendly and gave us good suggestions on what to do and where to eat! Mâché bistro in town was the best meal we had! Upscale food in a casual environment! Also the location of the inn was ideal. Right in the center of town but on a quiet side street! 5 minute walk to Main Street but 2 minutes to cottage street which is another main st in town! I would without a doubt stay there next time I'm at bar harbor!!

My husband and I stayed for one night three years ago and it was great. Now three years later we once again found ourselves in Maine with family who offered to watch our kids so we could have a night together. It was everything we remembered from the first time. We had the Romeo and Juliet room both times and it's a great room with lots of sunlight and space and a terrific jacuzzi bathtub with separate shower. The room has small touches like instrumental CD's, bath gels, and chocolate. The hosts are very approachable and acommmodating. The location is in town within easy walking distance of everything. They have a nice dining table for breakfast where you can sit around and get to know other guests or smaller tables outside on the porch where you can enjoy time alone. The next time we are in Maine and have family again offering us a night away, this will be our stop!

Our stay at Hearthside was wonderful. My boyfriend and I stayed in the Queen Elizabeth room. It was extremely clean, with a small closet and bathroom. The ceiling was sloped, so my boyfriend had to duck to get into bed (hence the 4 star rating for the room). The room had a floor length mirror, which I greatly appreciated. The bed, bedding, and towels were all fresh and comfortable. Barry and Susan were great hosts - they are friendly and extremely knowledgable about the area. They serve delicious cookies, coffee, and tea in the afternoon, and the breakfast is wonderful. They always have cereal, toast, and various baked goods, as well as the hot dish of the day. Everything we ate was fantastic. My only complaint was that I wished the cookies and coffee were served in the evening as desert. I would definitely stay at Hearthside again, and I would highly recommend it to others. I would also highly recommend the trip to Bar Harbor. We had a wonderful time visiting Acadia, and particularly enjoyed the popovers (and chicken salad) at the Jordan Pond Restaurant. We also enjoyed meals at McKays and Bar Harbor Inn (the Reading Room). The sandbar should not be missed! All in all it was a great trip!

The room was large and well furnished. Attention to all the details that separate a merely good B&B from an excellent one: water bottles; snacks in the afternoon; a good breakfast; restaurant recommendations; friendly; accessible innkeepers; plenty of soft towels; relaxed atmosphere, etc.

We had a great stay here during our 5th anniversary trip. Susan and Barry were great. We did hiking and restaurant research before coming. We ran some ideas by Susan and Barry who provided us with some great tips and ideas about Acadia and the local restaurants. We tweaked our plans based on their suggestions and had a fabulous time. Breakfast was fantastic each morning and the room was very clean and comfortable. I can't think of a better way to share a special anniversary than in Bar Harbor and staying at this b&b.

We stayed at the Hearthside in July for 6 nights. It is an easy walk around the area and it is close to all the restaurants and shopping. We were on the third floor, the very quiet air conditioner and ceiling fan were on when we arrived. The nights were cool so we opened the windows, we had no outside noise. Breakfast was very good and all the quests seemed to come down to eat at the same time. Susan and Barry did a very good job getting breakfast ready for 9 rooms of people. They were both very informative about events and directions. We had a good time and would recommend the Hearthside to anyone visiting the area.

Delightful stay at the Hearthside!! The owners went out of their way to make us feel at home, with helpful advice on points of interest, restaurants, etc and wonderful warmth and humor. My husband and I traveled for two weeks to USA and spent three days in Bar Harbor hosted at Hearthside Inn B & B, it was our first experience at a B&B, and there are no words to describe the pleasant surprise. Every detail of the house and the room, the breakfast delicious and different every day, a delicious coffee with homemade cookies in the afternoon, the people that was staying and the magnificent hosts gave us the best memories of this vacation.

One always hopes that a B and B chosen, sight unseen, will be wonderful, and this was my lucky four days. I loved my first room right from the start and the owners were pretty wonderful in giving me all kinds of information about Mount Desert Island...what to do where to eat. This was the home of a doctor at one time and my room was, according to the owner, his study. I moved after the second night to a room on the main floor that I liked less. It was dedicated to Winston Churchill and for Churchill buffs it might have been supreme. For me, I did not like his portrait staring at me over the fireplace. The room was very dark and it did not help the gloomy feeling that was accentuated by the rain and fog on the island. The B and B is impeccably run and the breakfasts were to die for. Take that Winston Churchill!!!
5 on July 02, 2013
My boyfriend and I stayed at Hearthside for three nights last year, and we loved it. So this year when we planned for a brief stay in Bar Harbor, we did bother considering other options, and just went to Hearthside again. The place is located at the center of the town, but it is very quiet. Both the house and the rooms are super cosy and clean. Each room has its own character and equipped with an AC. The best thing about Hearthside, to me, is the breakfast. Susan and Barry are such wonderful hosts, and Susan is a phenomenal cook. Unlike many B&Bs that serve conventional continental breakfast or pancakes or waffels, Susan uses whatever in season and creates her own dishes. You may say that "I don't eat this or I don't like that," but as soon as they present to you the dish, you will just want to try and you will definitely love it. I cannot claim that Hearthside is the best B&B in Bar Harbor, since I haven't been to other places. But it is the right place to me. We will certainly go back to it again.

Susan and Barry, We had a wonderful time thank-you for your wonderful hospitality.
4.6 on June 17, 2013
Susan and Barry made us feel so welcome in their beautiful and comfortable home. Lots of fun touches in the parlor, like a collection of unique kaleidoscopes on the mantle. Our bed was made up with luxuriously soft sheets and there was a nice selection of music CD's to listen to on the bedside clock. We got in on a special rate before the peak summer rates, so feel that we got an excellent deal. We would gladly stay here again!
4.2 on June 16, 2013
The only improvement made to our stay would have been if Barry and Susan suddenly became sun gods and dried up all the rain.
5 on June 13, 2013
Perfect fit for a cozy bed and breakfast place! The breakfast was excellent, and the owners were very nice. Tucked away a bit from downtown so it was quiet, but easily accessible. Will stay here again next time we're in Bar Harbor!
4.6 on June 10, 2013
My wife and I stayed here for only one night. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our room as well as the common areas of the facility. The breakfast were delicious. Our only problem is we should have stayed for longer than only one day in Bar Harbor. We plan on coming back soon.
4.2 on June 10, 2013
This is an excellent choice for a couple wanting a quiet place to stay and enjoy reading a book or walking around Bar Harbor. This is NOT a good choice for smokers, anyone with children, anyone with infants or pets, or rowdier or party-prone folks. Otherwise it's outstanding and I would recommend it.
5 on June 08, 2013
This lovely inn was a perfect choice while visiting Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The owners took care to make our stay and everyone else there with us as comfortable as possible. The inn was in easy walking distance of the shops and restaurants in Bar Harbor. Breakfast was delicious and quite varied daily. Susan was gracious to ask ahead of time of any special diet needs (which I have) and was glad to accommodate.

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at this amazing B&B and we could not have been more happy with the stay. The building and rooms were in prestine condition, the food was excellent and the proprietors were very friendly. They know the area very well and were able to answer all of our questions and help us find fun activities to do. They even set up dinner reservations for us at one of the local restaurants. We will certainly come back to Hearthside Bed and Breakfast!

We spent 3 nights at Hearthside before Bar Harbor hit its main season and it was lovely. The accommodation was warm and cozy, as were our hosts! Excellent food and it is really interesting to have the guests eat together - there are some interesting stories to hear. There was a wide variety of guest during our stay and the innkeepers were able to connect with all of them. Not our first visit, nor our last!

This B&B is so well located and an easy walk to so many things, but the best part is that it could not be cleaner, cozier, or more comfortable. We were in the Duke of Ellington room - reaonably priced with extra amenities that you don't always get at a B&B (bottled water, chocolates, hair drier). Even though the bathroom was small in this room, it had everything we needed, and the shower was great with plenty of hot water. As for Susan and Barry, they are just wonderful! We had a quick stay as my husband was running the MDI marathon, but felt we got to know Susan and Barry and their lovely B&B -- we would definitely return!

Susan and Barry pay attention to all the details, are very helpful regarding the area's many available attractions, and provide a comfortable and cozy place to stay. Highly recommended.
4.6 on October 16, 2012
Staying with Barry and Susan is always a pleasure. Breakfast is varied (never the same meal twice), and always great. It's been several years since we stayed at Hearthside, but they remembered us, and remembered what we liked, what we needed, and how to care specifically for us. Outstanding. They've also done a good job of adapting and accomodating an older house in the center of town, to make it quiet, comfortable, and private for the guests. We will be back, again and again.

Hearthside is perfectly located in Bar Harbor. You can easily access the shuttles to the park, the downtown area while enjoying the peace and quiet of staying on a side street. Susan and Barry are very friendly, helpful and fun. Love the community breakfast with the other guests. We got to travel through the experiences of of the other guests and share suggestions on trips and dining on Mount Desert Island.

Our stay at the Hearthside Inn was fantastic. From the minute we checked in, it was clear that Barry and Susan have thoughtfully attended to every detail. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a map of Bar Harbor, restaurant and shopping recommendations, and a brief but thorough introduction to everything the inn has to offer. The dining room had coffee, tea and baked goods available, while the living room is complete with a vast amount of information on Acadia National Park and the surrounding area. Our room was well-appointed and very comfortable and everything is impeccably clean, inside and out. But by far our favorite part of the stay was the homemade breakfast! The only negative to our stay was that it was too short....we will definitely be back! The Hearthside Inn met and exceeded all our expectations.
5 on October 08, 2012
Charming inn, wonderful breakfasts. Location couldn't be better - close enough to walk to the center of town yet off the high traffic areas. Inn keepers were friendly and informative. Our room - Emily Dickinson - was nicely appointed, enough room for us and our luggage. Bathroom was attractive and, again, comfortably sized. Common rooms well appointed and inviting.
5 on October 05, 2012
We have stayed here so many times now that I have lost count! There are many reasons we keep returning to this special place - the location, the cleanliness, warmth and coziness of the accommodations, the wonderful breakfasts, the afternoon goodies with tea, coffee and hot chocolate and last but certainly not least - Barry and Susan's unfailing hospitality that allows guests to feel like they are in their own home and their wealth of knowledge about the area after years spent on the island. Even though they were not born in Maine, they know more about the area than most natives do! We'll keep returning as long as they'll have us!!!

This was our third stay with Barry and Susan at the Hearthside B&B and we can't say enough how much we love it...Everything is grand from the moment we check-in to the hugs and well-wishes as we depart (sadly). Barry and Susan set the standard in Bar Harbor, with their lovely decor, delicious and plentiful breakfast, gracious hospitality, and that ever-present touch of humor that tells you they love what they do. We are already booked for next year and can't wait.

We stayed at Hearthside during our honeymoon 15 years ago, and it was just as wonderful as we remembered.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay over this past Labor day weekend. The property was very nice and convenient to all of the Bar Harbor attractions. Barry and Susan were both very friendly and helpful. We would definitly consider staying here again.

Susan and Barry are great! They provided us with local insight of restaurants, sights and getting around. Hearthside is equally fantastic! The room was clean, in good condition and the linens were very nice. Breakfast was delicious and the common spaces were cozy! Finally, they were flexible to allow a late check out to fit our schedule. This B&B is a great bargain and a real gem!

Barry & Susan are wonderful hosts. They know the area and are willing to offer you their expertise. Breakfast was so filling! Great location to downtown Bar Harbour and Acadia National Park. We even made the trip to Baxter State Park to see a moose!

Highly recommend this Bar Harbor B&B for service, cleanliness, and EXCELLENT location. Easy short walk to nearby Bar Harbor shops and restaurants located on a lovely quiet side street. The lack of traffic and quiet location made it easy to sleep with open windows and enjoy cool breeze. Totally enjoyed our stay and the Inn Keepers made us feel very welcome.

My wife and I spent two nights at the Hearthside in August and were pleased with every aspect of our stay. We stayed in the Emily Dickinson room which was very spacious and tastefully decorated. It had a quite comfortable king bed, a full bath, and a sitting area complete with a few volumes of Dickinson's poetry. The location is perfect as well. High Street is a short stroll to the water and to the center of town. Our room was in the front of the house, but we were not bothered by any noise - High Street is very peaceful due to the low volume of car / foot traffic. Susan and Barry are wonderful hosts who maintain the perfect amount of presence throughout a stay. You always know they are there should you need anything but they are not intrusive. We had several friendly conversations throughout our stay. Upon arrival, Barry gave us a helpful rundown of the main features of Bar Harbor and Acadia. He even broke down the low tide times for us so we could walk the sand bar over to Bar Island. The breakfasts Barry and Susan prepare are superb. Each morning there was an appetizing array of baked goods, fruit, and cold cereal along with plentiful coffee and tea. The hot entree on our first morning was a gigantic waffle with sausage, and on our second morning we were treated to omelettes, which were made to order. The breakfast atmosphere was very pleasant. Guests could even choose to sit outside on the deck or a patio area. Overall, there is absolutely nothing that I could possibly find fault with about the Hearthside Inn. My wife and I will certainly be staying there again.

Barry and Susan made our stay great. They showed attention to detail and everything was clean. A full breakfast started each morning. They were very helpful in planning our day trips around the park. Their suggestions for dinner wonderful.

We stayed for a couple of nights recently and really enjoyed ourselves. :-) The breakfast was wonderful and the room was very clean and the bed comfortable. There are no TVs at this B&B, we did not know that going in, but it was not a deal breaker for us. I would definately stay in this B&B again if I was in the area!! One of our favorite B&Bs along the coast!
5 on August 11, 2012
Our recent stay at the Hearthiside was wonderful. The room was excellent, and we enjoyed the attached balcony. The breakfasts were outstanding. Susan and Barry were always helpful with suggestions about local attractions and restaurants. I highly recommend this B&B.

We had a great time at Hearthside Bed and Breakfast. The room was superb. Susan helped us plan our visits, particularly at "Petite Plaisance", Marguerite Yourcenar's house. Warmly recommended.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Hearthside Bed and Breakfast. We are so glad that they had a vacancy. The home is centrally located to everything in Bar Harbor, including the free buses into Acadia National Park. Breakfast was wonderful and there was always an afternoon snack and pink lemonade waiting when we returned from hiking. We enjoyed actually getting to chat with the other guests at the dining room table. Restaurants are all around for dinner, and we walked out to the sandbar at both high and low tides - great fun. This is one of the best stays we have had at a bed and breakfast. Thank you for such a nice time.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Bar Harbor, and much of that was due to the Hearthside Inn and our hospitable hosts. The location of the Inn is perfect when visiting Bar Harbor, and we had easy walks to shops, restaurants, water and scenic hiking paths. The Inn itself is quaint and comfortable, and the breakfasts were fantastic. We highly recommend it and we would definitely stay again.

5 on July 26, 2012
We stayed at Hearthside Inn for our anniversary, and we could not have picked a better place! The location is perfect...just off of the main streets of Bar Harbor, so it's easy to walk everywhere. Susan and Barry were incredible hosts. The B&B is the cleanest I have ever stayed at....it was truly impeccable! The breaksfast they served was the most amazing breakfast we've ever received at a B&B....they tailor it to your dietary needs/wants and there are a variety of options. Our stay was heavenly....and we will definitely be recommending Hearthside to anyone we know who will be in the Bar Harbor area!
5 on July 11, 2012
We have stayed at the Hearthside many times. The facilities and owners are great!
5 on July 09, 2012
Susan and Barry are wonderful hosts and clearly have the B&B experience nailed down. They have a beautiful home. Everything is squeaky clean and in perfect working order. There is something for everybody at breakfast and if you make your eating preferences known in advance, they will bend over backward to accommodate them. The Inn's location is central and withing walking distance to everything. They have been doing this in Bar Harbor for over 26 years and are happy to share their wealth of information on anything to see, do and eat there. We cannot wait to return! Thanks for everything, Susan and Kathy

5 on July 08, 2012
We had a wonderful time at the Hearthside Bed and Breakfast. The location was perfect (3-5 minute walk to downtown and the ocean), our room was wonderful, as were the hosts. Breakfast every morning was delicious and Susan and Barry, as well as the other guests, were very helpful in planning our trip and giving advice on what to do. It was nice to stay in a B&B, it had a very homey feel and was quite a different experience from a large hotel.
4.6 on July 04, 2012
Hearthside could not be in a better location to the shops/restaurants of Bar Harbour. We never had to get in the car. Restaurants and local shops were within a minutes walk. The rooms were tidy and comfortable and service was very warm and inviting. You must try the homemade granola. It was delicious! We were very happy during our short stay and would definitely return!
3.6 on July 02, 2012
Really enjoyed my stay with Susan & Barry. They are cordial and very willing to accomodate special eating requests and restrictions. They are so conviently located just one street away from downtown Bar Harbor. The only surprise was NO TV. which may have been in the write up and we just missed it. Ended up being kind of nice to be disconnected from the news for a week...not much of it is good anyways. Would definitely return another time.

My wife and I rode into Bar Harbor from Pittsburgh, Pa., on motorcycles -- in the rain. Ironically, in fact, we seemed to follow a double-rainbow for the last hour of the ride...right to the front door of the Hearthside Bed and Breakfast. Tired and a bit wet, we found ourselves absolutely delighted when Innkeeper Barry Schwartz greeted us so pleasantly and with such "Better Homes & Gardens"-like accommodations. Cozy and quaintly appointed, our gabled third-floor room (the Duke of Wellington room) offered period charm, calmness and a great night's sleep after a long and sometimes difficult day of riding. The bed and pillows were first-rate, and the small but full bathroom served us well. As for the breakfasts, we thoroughly enjoyed our meals on all four mornings of our stay. Barry and his wife, Susan, always provided seating at the large diningroom table, as well as at several bistro tables on the side porch (which we really enjoyed, weather permitting). We could always count on oatmeal, other cereals, toast/English muffins, homemade breads or muffins, some kind of fruit dish, and flavorful, locally roasted coffee. Then there were the entrees. Made to order, Barry and Susan prepared plates of French toast one day, omelets with choice of fixings, quiche and some kind of delicious blueberry-filled crepes. All very good -- and enough to keep my wife and I going until at least mid-afternoon. The innkeepers themselves were friendly, attentive, warm and caring, and they seemed to pay close attention to the kinds of details that make them a stand-out among inns, from towels to dry off our bikes, complimentary bottles of water and locally sold olive oils, to lots of tourist information, maps and personal recommendations for sight-seeing. Indeed, we enjoyed the stay and left with fond memories, as Susan and Barry are the best of the best when it comes to running a bed and breakfast inn.

Susan and Barry are wonderful hosts: the food is delicious, and the treats offered at 4.00 with tea and coffee are out of this world. The Inn is quiet, with coffee ready two hours before breakfast is served for us early risers. I've been to Bar Harbor many times, but Barry and Susan have suggestions for things I've never tried before. This year, I went out on a lobster boat and saw baby seals with their mothers.

my boyfriend and i spent just one night at the hearthside b&b on our way home from a roadtrip, and pretty quickly we were kicking ourselves for not staying longer. our room was clean and comfy, barry and susan were friendly and offered recommendations on dinner, evening activities, and acadia hikes. breakfast in the morning was outstanding (more than we expected!) and all-in-all we had a fantastic time and look forward to returning.

This place was awesome! The breakfasts were great, Susan and Barry were friendly hosts, and the bed was more comfortable than the one we have at home! My only complaint (very minor) was that the east-facing window in our room didn't have a very dark shade, making sleeping past the early New England summer sunrise a bit difficult. When we were looking for a place to stay in Bar Harbor, we chose Hearthside because the rates were a little more reasonable than most other B&Bs. I don't think we sacrificed in quality at all!
5 on June 09, 2012
Within a short walk you're in the middle of everything in this beautiful seaside town and a 5-minute drive to Acadia National Park. The rooms are bigger and more lovely than shown online. Breakfast was delicious and great fun as Hearthside seems to attract the most interesting and nicest people. Terrific experience!
5 on June 06, 2012
We stayed in the Wuthering Heights room. It was very comfortable and inviting. We didn't use the fireplace in our room, but liked the fact there was one in our room, in case we did want to use it. The room was quiet, on the second floor and with plenty of space for two people. We really liked our room!

Cannot say enough about the Hearthside. Beautiful place and beautiful people. Will be visiting again.

Susan, the owner, was friendly and knowledgeable if a little too chatty for my taste (but I'm no talker myself). She's a great chef and her breakfasts were SO good. Charming, very well-maintained, spotlessly clean Victorian b&b. Breakfasts are individually prepared-none of those dreadful breakfast casseroles which are showing up in many b&bs. Susan and Barry are very helpful hosts-anxious to help their guests make the most of their stay in Bar Harbor.

Stayed in Glass Menagerie. Delightful room with window seat and private balcony. Didn't realize that "detached private bath" meant down the hall and passed the stairs. Not ideal. Bathrobes were provided but a badly frayed collar detracted from the otherwise class of the whole experience. Great food and convenient location. Susan and Barry are great hosts.

We have stayed here 3 times and have always enjoyed Barry and Susan's hospitality and wonderful breakfasts. The inn is wonderfully decorated, and lovingly cared for. We stayed in the "Glass Menagerie" room. This room has a private balcony which is a nice place to spend time outdoors. It has two chairs, a table, and is accessed through a small door that looks like it is just another window. It has an awning to keep you dry.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hearthside B & B. Susan and Barry are great innkeepers. Susan gave us a great intro to Bar Harbor and the area. We stayed in the Winston Churchill Room; loved the decor and porch. When we mentioned we would be arriving in Bar Harbor fairly early in the day, Susan offered a 1 p.m.check-in which was fabulous. My husband was able to rent a bike from the shop just around the corner and get in a half day ride. Highly recommend this B & B, well priced, great breakfasts and excellent location (can walk to everything in Bar Harbor).

We highly recommend Hearthside B & B if you are wanting a perfect location to stay in Bar Harbor. It's just blocks from dining, bike rentals, kayak rentals, the marina, grocery, and all the fun of the town, but it also has all the charm of the old town. The location is perfect for hiking and biking straight into Acadia National Park. Susan & Barry helped us plan our adventures, giving us the right combination of input and space to "do our own thing." Our first floor bedroom had a completely renovated bathroom and a nice, quiet deck to chill out during our down moments. We had a terrific stay and recommend it for others!
4.8 on September 07, 2011
We had a lovely stay at the Hearthside B&B. The location is fantastic, walking distance to everything you'd want to do in the town of Bar Harbor. Susan and Barry go out of their way to make sure you have a nice time. Just one example, we happened to mention we were going to watch the sunrise from Cadillac mountain, and an hour later they showed up at our room with an extra blanket for us to use! They answered our myriad questions expertly (from where's the best place to rent bikes to what day was likely to have the best weather for whale watching). Breakfast was delicious every day, and they were very accommodating: when we had an early trip, they made sure we got fed before we left. The inn is comfortable and quiet. We had an amazing time in Bar Harbor and would highly recommend Hearthside to anyone.

Hearthside was a great place for my husband and me to stay during our first visit to Bar Harbor. It had everything any great B&B would have such as clean and comfortable rooms, attentive service, delicious breakfast, and tasty snack in the afternoon. What made Hearthside stand out for us was the owners' personal attention to our needs. In our case they heard our interest in hiking and in exploring the nature. They provided us with perfect booklets and books, in addition to guiding us on where and what to do. We had the greatest time in Bar Harbor as a result. Thank you, Susan and Barry!

The title of our review says it all! When you find a place away from home, that feels like home, you keep returning. Barry and Susan work very hard to make your stay a truly delightful B&B experience. From the scrumptious breakfast, which varies daily, to the beautiful and comfortable rooms, you will love the Hearthside. Don't worry about where to eat or what to do in Bar Harbor or Acadia, Barry and Susan are always ready to help. This year we forgot to bring our fanny packs for hiking the trails in Acadia. Barry was kind enough to lend us theirs. Acadia has 52 miles of the most scenic and beautiful carriage trails just made for biking. The first year my wife bought a small book, titled "A walk in the park", that describes in detail, the many hikes available in Acadia. We use the book for each hike and record the date and our impressions of the hike. We have not found one we do not like. We could go on and on, but I think we will add more comments next year. :). P.S. Try the cold Chai tea at Jordon Pond, you will love it. Especially after a long hike.

This was my husband and my first experience at a bed and breakfast and we loved it. As soon as we arrived, early in the morning way before our check-in time, Susan and Barry were completely welcoming and excited to meet us. After recommending a spot for us to get some breakfast since the previous guests had just checked-out of our room, we came back from breakfast to find our room cleaned and ready and it was much bigger than i expected. With a beautiful big bathroom! Breakfasts were amazing, location was perfect and a close walk to everything yet on a beautiful side street, and in knowing it was our first anniversary, they graciously left a bottle of champagne in our room. Great value, great experience, and LOVE Bar Harbor. We'll definitely be back!

We have stayed many times over the past 25 years, and we are always delighted in all aspects of our visit. The accommodations are comfortable, furnishings are refreshed, and the hosts are tireless in their efforts to ensure our total enjoyment. Each day's full, hot breakfast is unique, beautifully presented, and delicious. We invited another couple to join us. At a lesser establishment, that would have been a big risk, but at Hearthside, I knew I would not fail to impress my friends and show them a grand time.

My wife and I have stayed here three times since we got married ten years ago. We parked our car and never moved it until we left. That's how close to downtown Bar Harbor this Bed and Breakfast is. They served a big breakfast every morning so you were fueled up and ready to go for the days hiking biking or other touring. Our last trip there was for our tenth wedding anniversary. Every morning a new list of guests would be out and everyone could see how far people had come to stay there. While we were there the guests came from, Germany, England, Loveland, Colorado;New Orleans, Louisiana; Mass and even a few from Maine. Almost every day a least three of the nine rooms were occupied by people who had been there before. If you wanted a better recommendation than that I don't know what it would be. We went back because that is where we went on our Honeymoon. We also went back because we were treated well and because of the excellent location. We plan on going back again for another anniversary!

We are repeat guests at the Hearthside for a reason....we love everything about it, from the innkeepers, Barry and Susan, who are warm and funny and wonderful, to the rooms, cozy and comfortable and squeaky clean, to the central location on a quiet side street in th town of Bar Harbor, within easy walking distance of all shops and restaurants and parks, to the fantastic breakfasts and good company of other guests. This inn is a winner in all respects.. 5 stars!

We stayed 4 nights at Hearthside and were very impressed with our room and the exceptionally nice innkeepers, Susan and Barry. Gourmet breakfasts!

We chose Hearthside based on its central location and it couldn't have worked out better. We were in the "Glass Menagerie" room, which had a detached bathroom down the hall, but that turned out to not be a problem at all, plus that room had a private balcony which was very nice. Susan and Barry are very friendly and generous, which made our stay that much more enjoyable. The breakfasts were excellent and are different every day. The inn is charming and well-kept and every room is stocked with old books. Also, it was very helpful that the inn is in the center of Bar Harbor, so everything we wanted to do in town was within walking distance. This is where we will stay when we return and we would recommend to anyone that they stay here.

This is a great place to stay if you want to explore Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The inside of the B&B is beautifully furnished and the breakfast good. My only complaint was that the rooms were a little cold at night and you couldn't make them warmer.

Susan and Barry were exceptional hosts, but not intrusive. They provided the little extras, for example you could order a brown paper bag lunch, a picnic, or lunch with rucksack for hikers. The place has character. It is centrally located in Bar Harbor, but quiet. The beds were extremely comfortable. The breakfasts are of a high quality and the quiche for breakfast on our last morning was just delightful to eat.

I am a repeat guest who has been staying at the Hearthside for several years. Always enjoyable, clean, quiet and comfortable - Susan and Barry are the best hosts!!! They are friendly and helpful without being intrusive and they are a fountain of knowledge about the park, the island and surrounding areas. Great intown location, close to everything! The breakfasts are always fabulous and LOVE afternoon refreshments - home baked goodies, tea, coffee and cool drinks; just the right thing you need in the late afternoon every day! Rooms are beautifully appointed and spotless - very comfortable and cozy! If anyone asks where's the best place to stay in Bar Harbor, I always say without missing a beat "Hearthside"!!!!!!!! Don't miss it!

Barry and Susan have accepted by wife and I into their home over 20 vacation weeks. My wife and I have vacationed for over 38 years and only stayed in a B & B prior to the Hearthside. I would never stay anywhere else in Maine. The rooms are spotless, the breakfast's are awesome and what brings us back year after year, is Susan and Barry. Such great hosts and friends. I would, without a doubt, recommend the Hearthside to all. Truly a fantastic experience. Bill and Nancy Huber

We spent three days in this gorgeous bed and breakfast in October. Ideally located, very close to the park, this charming bed and breakfast was a home away from home. The owners of this restored house, Susan and Barry made us welcome and comfortable. The front door is open 24 hours day, no need to worry about what time to come back. In the living room there is a nice library where you can borrow a book for the night or a map for your hike. In the afternoon there is tea, coffee and gourmet chocolate available, as well as cookies. The breakfast is sinful, freshly cooked and bountiful. There is always a couple of cakes, fruit, a main dish that changes every day (quiche, eggs Benedict, French toast ). I did not like the main dish available a couple of days (a matter of personal taste, not of inferior quality of the food) and Barry did not mind scrambling some eggs for me. They have a great Maine blueberry jam, worth a try! . The guests were not only American, but also from different countries in Europe, it was a very nice and interesting atmosphere. We booked the Winston Churchill room and we loved it. Roomy, cozy, with a fireplace and whirlpool. Toiletteries were available, as well as CD player with an assortment of CD’s, a bottle of water and chocolates. The room had small details I appreciate, like a small dish for the jewelry. It had also a small terrace. Everything was extremely clean. Parking is available in front of the house, no problem. Susan and Barry are a mine of information about the park and the area, always willing to share with the guests. They give really good advice about restaurants, hiking routes, driving directions… Value for price is good and fair. We hope to come back to Bar Harbor and definitely we will plan our trip around the availability of this bed and breakfast, for us is the place to stay.

What a wonderful place! The hosts went out of their way to make my stay comfortable, welcoming, and enjoyable. I will be returning here many times thanks to Susan and Barry's incredible hospitality and lovely accomodations. I can't recommend it enough!

As return guests, we obviously enjoy the Hearthside and do not consider staying at any other location in Bar Harbor. Susan and Barry are superb hosts and are truly concerned about their guests. They are a wealth of information on Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park and can provide advice on where to go and what to do for any level of physical activity. We love the Hearthside and the innkeepers, we will be visiting again.

This inn is located on a quiet street in Bar Harbor. The innkeepers, Barry and Susan, were consistently friendly and helpful, though not intrusive. They provided excellent suggestions for activities in Acadia. The breakfasts were delicious: pancakes, waffles, sausage, cereals, muffins, breads, juices, teas, coffees, quiches, and other "little" dishes. Their dishes were easily some of the best foods we ate during our visit there. The rooms and bathrooms are clean, private, quaint, and well-furnished. I have no reservations about recommending this B&B to other people and intend to stay there again in the future.

This was the best B&B we have ever visited. The owners went out of their way to make our vacation enjoyable. They had great recommendations and were always available. The rooms were neat and very clean. The food was delicious and the owner (Susan) even made me my favorite iced coffee in the AM. I would highly recommend this B&B.

This is our 8th visit to the Hearthside. The reason we come back is Susan and Barry are what every innkeeper should be. They are warm, generous people, who really care that you enjoy their B&B, Bar Harbor and Acadia. They serve wonderful breakfasts and their home is spotless. Looking forward to our 9th visit next year. What more can we say.

Barry and Susan have an absolutely beautiful B & B in Bar Harbor. We have been staying with them for close to 15 years now and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else. The rooms are beautiful, the food is great and the innkeepers are the best! It's obvious they love the Bar Harbor area and they are more than willing to provide info and details about it in order to enhance your stay. Try it - you'll love it!!! Pam and Steve Taylor

Our stay exceeded any expectations we had from the photos and descriptions. Every detail from the beautiful decorated room to the gourmet breakfast. A storm and rain started that evening so we lit a fire. With the fire log blazing in the fireplace, the room was cozy and inviting. Only disappointment was that we couldn't book for another night (room taken). Diane & Bill, Sparks, NV

The owners keep the home in tip-top shape. Very clean and the breakfast is consistently outstanding. They are helpful with restaurant information and Acadia National Park. We keep coming back to their inn. Well worth it.

We stayed at Hearthside B&B for 4 nights at the end of September, and we highly recommend it to anyone. Susan and Barry are wonderful hosts who made us feel truly at home. Every little detail was taken care of during our stay at Hearthside B&B--the rooms were cozy and beautifully decorated, the common areas warm and inviting, and the breakfasts superb. Susan and Barry also went out of their way to prepare gluten-free foods for my husband who cannot eat gluten (including delicious gluten-free brownies every afternoon). Susan and Barry are also very knowledgeable about the area and all it has to offer; they are always glad to provide recommendations and their living room is filled with very helpful guides. Hearthside is also very conveniently located right in the center of town, but still hidden away on a quiet street. Bar Harbor is a beautiful place, and Hearthside B&B is a true gem. Highly recommended if you are looking for a quiet, tranquil, relaxing place to call your home while you are enjoying the beauty of this region.

It was our first visit to a bed and breakfast and the owners were pleasant and helpful with what to do in the area. The rooms were decent sizes and you could not hear any of the other guests. The B&B is on a quiet street within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. We would be willing to return!

We have visited Bar Harbor many times and keep returning to Hearthside B&B. Susan & Barry are wonderful. Their humor and hospitality make it a very enjoyable place to stay. We consider it our home in Maine.

This was a perfect B&B experience. The rooms were spacious, beautifully decorated, comfortable and immaculate. The beds were very comfortable. The hosts were the perfect combination of welcoming and accommodating without being intrusive. Bar Harbor and Acadia are destinations that rival any in the world and the Hearthside is convenient location from which to enjoy them. There is a wealth of information at the B&B and from the hosts to help plan sightseeing and take advantage of all the area has to offer. All this and we haven't even begun to talk about the fabulous breakfasts or the option to have a picnic lunch packed!

My husband and our friends stayed for 2 nights to enjoy Acadia and all that Bar Harbor has to offer. The rooms, service and breakfast were incredible. The inn keepers gave us fabulous recommendations for restaurants and activities. Overall our stay was wonderful!!

We absolutely loved our stay at the Hearthside B&B. Susan and Barry are the greatest -- very fun and down to earth. We took their recommendations on some really fun activities like kayaking and walking across the sand bar to Bar Island, as well as their recommendations on restaurants, and we were always pleased! We stayed for a long time and Susan and Barry prepared a different breakfast every day -- and every one of them was delicious! Afternoon tea was lovely, too, and there were yummy cookies and hot chocolate as well. Our room was beautiful and cozy (we snuck peeks at the other rooms and they were beautiful, too). The location is fantastic -- right in the middle of town but on a small, quiet street. We highly recommend this B&B and we will certainly return there for our future visits to Bar Harbor.

It was my wife's birthday. Like most guys I never know what to get or do. So I left it up to my wife Kim. She had never been at a B&B and wanted to spend her birthday weekend at one. After searching for some time online, it was suggested from another inn that i/we try Hearthside Bed and Breakfast. We are truly glad that the Hearthside was suggested. From the moment that we stepped foot into the grand foyer of the Hearthside we both knew that this place was going to be very relaxing, comfortable and cozy. Inn keeper Susan was a hoot.......very good warming welcome as well as having a great sense of humor. Her breakfast cooking was divine as well as the treats that she put out around 4pm for our enjoyment. Both Barry and Susan were very hospitable and we loved their stories of their years of experience as Innkeepers of the Hearthside. Our Room ( Romeo and Juliet ) was outstanding!!! We did however sneak a peek of the other rooms too and all were equally as elegant as ours was. Kim and I so enjoyed our time. We both rested well and were very comfortable with our soundings.........Thank you again very much for such a wonderful stay Barry and Susan Schwartz............we are looking forward to our next visit..........very soon........

This was our first bed & breakfast experience, and it could not have been better. Innkeepers Barry and Susan maintain an immaculate inn, and go out of their way to ensure guests are taken care of. Breakfasts are incredible down to every detail in the preparation and serving of breakfast. When I did not partake of a particular breakfast item, and they asked me why and I told thme I was allergic to one of the ingredients (cinnamon), they made sure that each morning there was at least one home baked item item for me to choose that was cinnamon-free, even to the extent of offering plain or cinnamon-raisi bread for their french toast. The room we had was one of their smaller ones, and while a little tight on space, it was comfortably furnished with warmth and imagination. We would definitely stay at Hearthside Inn again. Innkeepers Barry and Susan were also very knowledgeable about goings on in the area and how to get places.

The Hearthside B&B gave us exactly what they stated on their card - "Wonderful Times and Treaured Memories". We stayed in the Prince Albert room. They have afternoon tea and snacks at about 4pm and refreshments available until 9pm - which was not something we expected but a lovely treat - well we "Brits" do love our afternoon tea! The location was close to the town but on a side street far enough away to not hear the noise. Our room was on the top floor but was comfortable and very clean, with more than ample storage space. Although our bedroom did not have an ensuite the private bathroom across the landing was well laid out and worth the walk! Barry and Susan were extremely helpful and advised us on a local day walk at nearby Acadia park, and the packed lunches at $8 each were brilliant. They made us feel extremly welcome and we enjoyed sharing knowledge on the walking and sites to see back in our homeland of Wales, which they are keen to visit when they are next over. The whole place was very cosy, clean and inviting, and we also met many nice fellow guests during our stay, who were regular visitors. Breakfast each day came with plenty of choices and was always filled with good company around the large and homely breakfast table. We would highly recommend this B&B! and if we are lucky to re-visit, what is a beautiful part of the world, we wouldn't consider staying anywhere but the Hearthside when we return to Bar Harbor.

The Hearthside B&B was even better than those in Ireland, but very similar in hospitality and overall feel. We stayed in the Winston Churchill room. They have afternoon tea and snacks at about 4pm and refreshments available until 9pm. The location was close to the town but on a side street far enough away to not hear the noise. Our room was large, very clean, had more than ample closet/drawer space, a fireplace with a new log each day, a large personal bathroom, and a private covered porch. Barry and Susan were extremely helpful and have many useful resources to take with you on your daily outings. They always greeted us when they saw us, but it wasn't at all uncomfortable like some B&Bs can be. They let us store our bikes in the basement and we came and went as we pleased with the bikes. They offered to help us find parking if their lot was full, accommodated us when we had to leave early in the morning (we didn't even give them warning) by provding the hot breakfast quickly. They will also pack you a bagged lunch for $8 if you ask the night before. The whole place was very clean and inviting, breakfast was absolutely delicious and there were plenty of choices for picky eaters. Beautiful dishes, cloth napkins and matching silverware were a nice touch. The Eggs Benedict was to die for! I would highly recommend this B&B! I wouldn't consider staying anywhere but the Hearthside when we return to Bar Harbor.
