About

At Netherfield Natural Farm, our goal is to be a self-sustaining place for visitors who are looking to have a rural agrarian experience on their vacation. It’s like “farm to table” but better — the table is right on the farm. Inside - The dining room in Netherfield house opens up through 11-foot wide pocket doors into a large, window-wrapped living area. It’s arranged with distinct, slightly separated areas so you can have a little of your own space but still be near enough to join in a friendly conversation. Outside - What better way to enjoy the country than to spend your time outdoors? Wide-open decks wrap around two sides, along with a patio, and there are three covered porches. Up above, there is a large balcony overlooking the yard, pasture, and pond. And new for the 2015 season, we have a large in-ground pool with a sun deck, patio area, and firepit to enjoy. The Bar/n - Bring some of your favorite spirits and enjoy some time in the saloon within our working barn. Most of the bar is made from reclaimed material from the barn itself. You can play darts and chess, listen to music, or watch a game on the flat screen while you relax. The cows might even stop in a stall for a visit. And you don't even have to call a taxi when you're ready to call it a night.

Perfection

Scott and Matt are lovely hosts. I came here midweek for a few days to unwind and had the place to myself. Chickens, turkeys and dogs roam freely. Simple and well kept trails run through the property and there is a pond for fishing. Ellie and Adele, their Great Pyrenees and sometimes Cocoa, the neighbor's Chocolate Lab will accompany you on a walk. Breakfast was homemade biscuits. Scott was kind enough to give me the recipe. For a few dollars more lunch and dinner are provided and it is well worth it. Scott made stuffed sandwiches for lunch, again from scratch. He is quite the bread baker. Matt grilled up some fresh squash from their garden along with grass fed steaks. The house is clean, comfortable and well decorated. I stayed in the Jesse & Rhoda Vance room. It has an eastward facing balcony, which was lovely for watching the sunrise. The best part is the private bathroom with a deep Jacuzzi tub with room for two. Perfect for soaking after a hard day of doing absolutely nothing besides wandering from the pool to the shaded hammock for a nap. There are a couple of towns about 20-30 minutes away but I never left the farm. There is a separate barn with a charming bar available. I suggest you bring your own adult beverages as those are not provided. It’s a great alternative with a unique atmosphere. Scott and Matt will entertain you as much or as little as you want. While I am regretful to leave I look forward to coming back. I had a fantastic time. I wanted to relax and decompress for a couple of days and that’s exactly what I got. My expectations were exceeded.

Best idea yet!

This was our first B & B experience. We loved the home cooked delicious meals, all the farm life (they even let you help if you ask!) and especially loved the super comfortable beds. We will definitely be back! Also, if you have children, any age, I think they'd have a blast with all the fun things to do at the house!

About the innkeepers

I'm a former Washington DC bartender turned Kansas farmer. I grew up here many years ago and started this new adventure with my partner, Matt. We've spent the past few years getting this farm running. So far it's been a great experience and we're loving it every day.
