JUST what we needed. Staying with Chuck & Susan is like visiting with very good friends. We felt so very comfortable and welcomed. The house was full of amazing details and extremely clean. Breakfast every morning was a delight and we loved sitting at the table ( seats up to 18 ) and conversing with the other guests. Our room was spacious ( Mrs. Huntley's ) and had great views. Sitting on the front porch with coffee was magical, the views are amazing. And we loved all of the great recommendations for restaurants and places to see that Chuck and Susan gave us. Can't wait to return in the Fall to see the leaves! Thanks so much!

We were spending a quick weekend away from the hustle and bustle of the real world, away from the kids and work, and headed to Dubuque to visit friends. We had reviewed several bed and breakfasts, and settled on the Hancock House. It did NOT disappoint. The beautifully restored historic house high on the bluff was exactly was we needed to get away from it all. The hosts were more than accommodating...If you asked they would do whatever they could to meet your needs. The breakfast was second to none, and the friendliness of Susan and Chuck added to the experience. There didn't seem to be a bad room in the house, we snooped through them all (we were the only ones in the bed and breakfast for one of the nights), and they each had their own character and charm. The ballroom on the 3rd floor was our home and very spacious. The Hancock House is highly recommended, and I know when we come back to town, we will not have to think twice about where to stay.

Enjoyed our two night stay. Loved the Victorian look of the house. The Victorian décor made me feel as if I stepped back into a more genteel time when the demands of cell phone, texting, and general busyness could be left behind to relax and enjoy togetherness. The Huntleys were gracious and caring, concerned about our needs and wants. They made us feel at home and well cared for. Loved the "rubber duckies" in the Library tub...had to send a larger one to join the "family" All in all a lovely stay. The Wynns St Louis MO

What an incredible B&B. I have traveled many years and stayed in a variety of Inns but nothing compares to The Hancock House. Exquiste taste in restoration and furniture. Susan & Chuck are warm and inviting as well as the house itself. Enjoyed the variety of guests and the tasty breakfasts. I highly recommend this lovely home.

We love coming to the Hancock House. This is a beautifully restored home that Susan & Chuck lovingly maintain. The breakfasts are outstanding & careful attention is given to guests individual requests. Susan & Chuck are welcoming & hospitable; you leave as a friend. They also have extensive knowledge of the Dubuque area & provide excellent suggestions for local activities & restaurants. Our favorite B&B!

This is our destination for a relaxing getaway. We have stayed in various rooms, all with beautiful views of the city, clean and comfortable. You get all the amenities of a hotel, but more, visiting here. The beverages, fresh-baked cookies and breakfast are just a few. We have also enjoyed fires in the room. There are good restaurants and much to see in Dubuque too!

We recently stayed at the Hancock House for a couple nights. The outside weather was in the 40s-50s, and the inside of the house was VERY cold. The windows in our room were leaky next to the bed. The only supply of heat for the room was a small electric heater which couldn't keep up and made the room dry--resulting in a runny nose for both of us. There was a fireplace with a starer log that we lit but still were cold in the room. The dining room was also cold--I nearly shivered while eating my breakfast. I can't imagine how much colder this house would be in the winter! All of the decorations and furnishings were very dated. The house was spotlessly clean but needs updating. Based on my experience this one time, I wouldn't return again.
We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay. Regards, Susan Huntely

My husband and I had a recent trip to Dubuque, Iowa. It was our first trip to Dubuque and since we love to stay at bed and breakfasts and a friend had recommended The Hancock House. This stunning home and hillside property is well cared for and preserved by the owners, Chuck and Susan. We stayed in Mrs. Hancock's room with marvelous views of the city and river, a fireplace, clawfoot tub, and a step back in time with very comfortable features. Breakfast was amazing and we enjoyed talking with our hosts as well as other guests. We rate each of the review categories as "outstanding" but the system will only allow us to select the exceeds expectations categories. The Hancock House is is a perfect retreat!
