The Expo grounds are just outside the city center, near the suburb of Rho and connected to central Milan via the Metro (it’s only a 25-minute ride from the Duomo to the Expo grounds). This means that you can enjoy a centrally-located B&B in Milan and still get to the Expo easily. We've also included two B&Bs closer to the Expo grounds in Milan's suburbs, for those who want a break from the city hustle and bustle.

B&Bs in Milan usually consist of a room in a private apartment—or, as in most cases you'll see below, an entire apartment at your disposal—and breakfast is often little more than the traditional Italian one of coffee and pastries. With the food focus of the Expo, however, you may not want to fill up on a big breakfast before visiting the many international pavilions, plus, having access to an apartment kitchen is a handy feature when you bring goodies back from the Expo for later snacking.

B&Bs in Milan's City Center

B&B Porta Garibaldi

B&B Porta Garibaldi

Located between the historic center and the recently redeveloped area around Garibaldi Station and Porta Nuova, B&B Porta Garibaldi gives you easy access to Milan's main attractions and a nightlife hub. It's close to the chic Brera and Quadrilatero d'Oro shopping districts and a Metro station is only a five-minute walk from the door. Bikes are also available to guests free of charge.

The studio apartment includes a full kitchen, free wifi, and air conditioning. Owner Alessandra lives right next door, and loves meeting new people to help them explore the city she calls home. The apartment itself is full of light, with bright colors and contemporary décor, and the kitchen is stocked with everything you'll need to make a substantial breakfast, even eggs and bacon.

The Suitesisola B&B is an entire apartment for rent in the Isola district north of Garibaldi Station. This neighborhood has traditionally not been a touristy area, but it's one of Milan's nightlife hotspots. Nearby, the new Porta Nuova development's glass skyscrapers are interspersed with new parks and piazzas. The Isola location gives you quick access to Milan's Metro and to the trains that leave Garibaldi Station for points farther afield.

The apartment features modern furnishings, free wifi, air conditioning, and a well-stocked galley kitchen so you can make breakfast. Your hosts will greet you upon arrival, and are available for anything you need during your stay—though you're left to enjoy the apartment all to yourself if that's what you prefer.

Milano B&B Via Cavallotti

Duomo, Milan

As far as B&B locations in central Milan, you can't do much better than the B&B Via Cavallotti. It's a 5- to 10-minute walk to the many-spired Duomo, the flagship fashion boutiques along via Montenapoleone, and the legendary opera house Teatro alla Scala. The city fans out from the Duomo like the spokes on a bicycle wheel, so this is truly the heart of Milan—and with nearby Metro stations, you can get anywhere else you want to go.

This B&B is a compact apartment, with a bedroom and a sofa-bed, and has free wifi and air conditioning. The kitchen is stocked with the basic breakfast necessities to get you going in the morning—coffee, tea, juice, and pastries—and the central location means there are plenty of cafes and restaurants a stone's throw from the front door.

B&B El Brumista

El Brumista

One of the little-known features of Milan is that it has canals. Not like Venice, of course, but there are three canals in the Navigli district, just south of the city center. B&B El Brumista is a few steps from the largest of these canals, the Naviglio Grande, near the Porta Genova Station. This part of Milan has long been Bohemian and artsy, with small galleries and popular night clubs tucked between apartment buildings, and a buzzing nightlife scene.

The apartment B&B consists of one bedroom, a well-equipped kitchen, free wifi, and air conditioning. A parking space is even available by prior arrangement. Your hosts provide a variety of fruits and pastries for breakfast, along with coffee and tea. The side-street location ensures a quiet place to rest, while still giving you easy access to one of Milan's most exciting neighborhoods.

B&Bs Near the Milan Expo Grounds

Villa Mafalda

Villa Mafalda

The Villa Mafalda B&B is in the Rho suburb of Milan, just past the Expo fairgrounds, and offers a private shuttle on request to Milan's airports and the Expo. This property is more akin to a tiny boutique hotel, with three rooms available and relaxing common areas—including a sunny outdoor terrace with lots of greenery and comfy furniture.

Breakfast is in traditional Italian style, with coffee and tea, juice, and pastries served in the dining room each morning. In the summer, guests can enjoy breakfast in the garden under big umbrellas. The hosts can recommend local spots for dinner, and they also have an arrangement with a nearby spa for discounted services.

Oasi di Milano

Oasi di Milano

At Oasi di Milano, groups going to the Milan Expo can choose from five different independent apartments in a single building in the Arese suburb, just under two miles from the Expo grounds. The furnishings are basic and utilitarian, but everything—including the building itself—is relatively new.

The apartments sleep 3-4 people each and have air conditioning and fully-stocked kitchens with all the traditional Italian breakfast fixings. Transportation from Oasi di Milano to Milan's airports or the Fiera-Milano Metro stop are available by prior arrangement, so you can go explore central Milan when you've finished seeing the Expo itself.
