Beachside Inn, Destin, Florida

Destin’s clear blue-green waters are just yards from your door at this appropriately named inn, known for its charming pet-friendly rooms and cozy on-site coffee shop. We love that Beachside Inn offers a popular on-site sushi and seafood restaurant, as well as a beautiful two-level pool. Grab the family dog and a morning joe and take both for a walk along Crystal Beach, which abuts the property. Its sugar white sands, dotted with pastel-painted beach cottages, also make for a great sunset stroll.

Room rates start at $89 per night.

Peter Shields Inn, Cape May, New Jersey

Cape May is a historical resort town packed end to end with Victorian homes, a winding promenade and some of the best seafood restos on the Eastern Seaboard. Your carefully manicured shoreline destination? The Peter Shields Inn. This whitewashed Georgian Revival manse boasts modern rooms, flickering fireplaces and, most importantly, a fine stretch of beach (plus wicker rocking chairs from which to gaze at it). The property even provides beach chairs, umbrellas and bicycles for guests.

Room rates start at $99 per night.

Cape Cod Ocean Manor, Hyannis, Massachusetts

Hosts Ashley and Martin Battle welcome you to their Hyannis redoubt, outfitted with coastal flair (think sailboat-printed duvet covers and rooms decked in nautical blues). With the beach located literally across the street plus a wide deck that overlooks the adjacent salt marsh, water surrounds you at Cape Cod Ocean Manor. Best of all, it’s just a 15-minute walk from postcard-cute downtown Hyannis.

Room rates start at $75 per night.

Coral Hill Bungalows, Cahuita, Costa Rica

A quick 200 yards is all that separates you from one of Central America’s finest coasts, but we understand if it’s hard to tear yourself away from the rooms themselves. Local hardwoods, hand-painted sinks and original artwork make this Costa Rican getaway unusually cozy. The Coral Hill Bungalows are the perfect base for discovering Cahuita’s native fauna (monkeys, iguanas, slow-moving sloths) and incredible tropical gardens.

Room rates start at $130 per night.

Birds of a Feather Oceanfront B&B, Victoria, Canada

Victoria is perched on the rocky southern end of Vancouver Island, where you’ll find this ocean- and mountain-front B&B. No amenity goes overlooked at Birds of a Feather: Sprawling suites come with cathedral ceilings, rainfall showers, gas fireplaces, heated floors—pretty much everything but the kitchen sink. Oh, wait … there are fully fitted kitchenettes as well (but you’ll want to sample the innkeepers' French toast stuffed with strawberries and pecans at least once).

Room rates start at $99 CAD, or about $70, per night.

El Sol la Vida, Mazatlan, Mexico

A palapa with panoramic Pacific views, anyone? At El Sol la Vida in Mazatlan, on Mexico’s western coast, a secluded beach and oceanside location are just two of the reasons to hunker down here for the night, or week or month. Sprawling bathrooms, modern bedrooms, and an incredibly friendly staff that goes above and beyond the call of duty put mega-resorts to shame.

Room rates start at $110 per night.

Westender Inn, Negril, Jamaica

The Westender Inn, tucked in Jamaica’s quieter corner, is one of our favorite stays in the Caribbean. Located far from the maddening crowds of Montego Bay, situated along the coast just past the Negril lighthouse, this inn is all quiet intimacy and fuss-free romance. Find hammocks and verandahs and secluded spots spread over the property—and very few crowds among them. Insider tip: Don’t miss an authentic Jamaican breakfast of ackee and saltfish, followed by a dip in the freshwater pool.

Room rates start at $69 per night.
