Staff is very friendly and loves to talk over coffee.

Lovely home, brunch, and company

5 on August 22, 2018

We had a brief stay at the B&B en route through Richmond and found it really charming and comfortable. Our night on the "porch" was quiet and peaceful. Comfy bed, nice large bathroom, and Jill's yummy brunch in the morning. Highly recommend!

What an amazing home and host! The owners worked with me to accommodate an early check in, and the breakfast was delicious.

Surprise, but Pleasant Stay

3.2 on August 20, 2018

We had reserved a room at the Campbell House, a sister house owned by the same family that owns the PW Smith House. Upon arriving at the Campbell House we soon discovered that there was no one there to greet us. After knocking on all of the doors and receiving no answer, we phoned the 800 number where we were told that we had been moved to the PW Smith House. After recovering from that surprise, we had to find the PW Smith House. It was only 2 or 3 houses down from the Campbell House. Once we adjusted to the surprise move, we found the PW Smith House to be very pleasant. Our hostess, Jill, was friendly and helpful, our room was clean and attractively decorated and our breakfast was delicious. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but would have preferred to be notified prior to arriving at the Campbell House that our house/room had been changed.

Great room with amazing breakfast

Great stopover on a long journey!

The Philip W. Smith was a welcome and comfortable break in a long 700 mile trip. Chris, the innkeeper, was a gracious and pleasant host and he fully accommodated our traveling needs. The inn was definitely a wise choice!

Historic glamour near antique alley

5 on August 04, 2018

Our host attended to every detail. The house is gorgeous and so was our very comfortable room. This B&B is located on the National Road and close to lots of antique shops, beautiful Tiffany windows, historic restaurants, a candle company and breweries/wineries. We will be coming back!

Eastern Indiana’s best B & B; No Orher is close.

4.8 on June 30, 2018

Historical Home with modern conveniences. Hosts are genuinely careing of their guests and attentive to their needs.

Just a lovely Place

5 on April 24, 2018

I try to stay here every time I am in town...which is once a year. The beds are comfortable and breakfast is wonderful.

Cambell Inn

3.8 on March 01, 2018

We stayed at the Campbell Inn guest room #1 - we stayed for a weekend getaway - overall experience was good. Very nice hosts and good breakfast. My only issue was the sheer volume of traffic that passes by the house all night long. I was not aware of how busy the road is that this house sits on. We were not use to hearing vehicles every 15 sec driving by - needless to say we bought ear plugs for the second night.

Quaint Victorian

3.8 on February 05, 2018

I had an overnight while my son was exploring Earlham campus as a potential student. The home is full of wonderful antiques and details. I wish I could have stayed a few more days just to sit in the garden or read in the living room. My room was a bit drafty But they provided an effective space heater. I did some work on my computer and found few outlets to charge my devices. Old house, old technology. The bathroom was clean, the water was hot, the bed was comfortable, the breakfast was delicious.

We had such a wonderful and relaxing time here! Jill was such a sweetheart to get to know and chat with. We hope to be able to come back here soon. Steve & Linda Smith

Again- Jill and Kris were outstanding hosts! We stay at least once a year to visit our kids at Miami University and would not stay anywhere else. Keep up the great hospitality.

Lovely Victorian home!

Innkeeper was passionate about historic preservation and the area where the inn is located. The home was warm and inviting. All our needs were met. We were quite comfortable.

Lovely home

This B&B is in a small city with traffic, but once you're inside, everything changes & you're in another era!

Lovely place

Glad we could easily make arrangements to arrive a little later than the standard check in. Interesting to learn they get their mattresses from an Amish place in Ohio, and we can see why... wow how comfortable!

Wonderful Stay

Classic corner room with a king size bed, very comfortable.

127 yard sale

4.0 on August 08, 2017

We thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Our hostess was fabulous. We had a very filling breakfast as well as a late night snack. My only comment is that guests in the double twin room need to be warned that the shower is very small. Anyone of stature would not fit! Thankfully we were fairly short.

Wonderful Experience

5 on July 23, 2017

The house is gorgeous and the service outstanding. The breakfast and dessert were fantastic. Would go again and recommend to anyone!

Relaxing and Wonderful Stay

5 on July 22, 2017

We stayed in the Philip Smith House. Kris and Jill are wonderful engaging people who help make the stay enjoyable. Great stimulating conversations and wonderful pride in the city. They keep the rooms clean and are pretty good cooks.

My friends and I went there for a girls getaway weekend. The place was perfect for us. The owner was friendly, rooms spacious and breakfasts were amazing. Highly recommended!

WIsh we could have stayed longer....

5 on July 18, 2017

Jill, the owner and hostess was awesome. Made us feel welcomed and like family vs. guests! Room was just like picture! (Room 1). Breakfast was outstanding - Jill's an awesome cook! Met other guests at breakfast and had delightful conversations. Wish we could have stayed longer!

3.8 on July 04, 2017

We stayed overnight during a Cardinal Greenway ride. Very comfortable and relaxed. Owner very down to earth and friendly. Comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast. She even gave us a big bag of ice to fill our camel-backs. We were rested and ready for the trail the next morning.

Very nice B & B

3.8 on June 28, 2017

Everything about our stay, from check in to check out was very easy and pleasant. The house is quite impressive as an example of a small 19th century mansion. The hostess was very nice and accommodating, and a good cook too ! We will definitely go back for our next visit to Richmond.

Super Impressed!

5 on June 19, 2017

Check in/out was easy. The house is beautiful. Jill was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. To top it all off, the breakfast was wonderful. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Quick stop - beautiful place

3.8 on June 03, 2017

Very clean, comfortable home with interesting architecture. Hosts Kris and Jill were most helpful and pleasant folks. We loved our short 2 night visit.

Great stay!

5 on June 01, 2017

My husband and I are well traveled and have stayed at B&Bs and boutique hotels around the world. We came to the area for a weekend antique hunt, and absolutely loved our stay. We ended up having the entire Campbell house to ourselves and it was terrific. I'll admit, we were a little nervous when we pulled up, as there is some work to be done on the outside (that Kris is all over by the way), but the interior is beautifully refinished in a way that honors the past but with all modern amenities. Kris was a wonderful host and we ended up chatting with him for awhile over breakfast. He shared stories about the renovations of the home, which we found fascinating. As with any historic home, the work is never complete, but Kris is committed to doing the work right. As far as the details, the bed was very, very comfortable, the shower was great (strong water pressure) and breakfast was yummy! Great place to stay.

Great Value!!

3.8 on May 29, 2017

My husband and I wanted a place to stay for a weekend for our 1 year anniversary. The room was a great size. We had the house mostly to ourselves which was great. Smart tv in the room allowed us to stay in and chill for a night. Whirlpool tub was a plus for us, as we like baths. Bedding and towels were clean, bed very comfortable. Breakfast was simple, but of generous portions and was thoughtfully prepared. Not all dishware seemed as thoroughly cleaned as possible but that may have just been a personal observation. Could've used a larger trash can in our room instead of just the tiny one in the bathroom. Definitely an old house with typical charms and quirks. Didn't meet Jill, but Kris was mostly social over breakfast but otherwise left us to ourselves which we liked. Overall for the cost, the drive from Lexington (3 hrs), and the amount of stuff to do in Richmond (most of which we didn't actually do, but we knew there was a fair amount) the value can't be beat.

Lovely B and B close to scenic train ride

3.8 on May 24, 2017

Beautiful house. Innkeeper was super friendly and helpful. Delicious breakfasts! Some comfortable outdoor seating either on the front porch or in the backyard would have been nice. I would definitely stay at this property again!

A Lovely Bed and Breakfast Experience

5 on May 17, 2017

This was my first time staying at a bed and breakfast. I loved every minute of my stay. My room was comfortable and clean. The breakfast was delicious. The hospiltality extended by the owners made me feel as though I was visiting relatives.

Many return stays

Great Girls Getaway Weekend

4.0 on April 27, 2017

If you're looking for something fun to do with a friend, definitely give Jill a call at this B&B. She took care of all the details...from arranging a tea party, dinner, and massages, to letting us know about the best sites and shops in town. The B&B was lovely and very comfortable with a delicious breakfast.

Charming B&B in Richmond IN helped take away some sorrow of fam funeral time!

5 on April 17, 2017

Jill and Kris were so gracious and warm. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Wonderful Place to Stay with Lovely Hosts

3.4 on March 30, 2017

We enjoyed our stay and hosts were helpful and accommodating. Comfortable and clean room. Would have been nice to have a light on both sides of the bed for in-bed reading. Host good at providing info about the city, places to eat, historic district, etc. We would definitely stay here again if traveling this way.

Felt right back at home in Richmond, IN

Comfy rooms. Yummy breakfast. Gracious hosts

3.8 on March 29, 2017

Enjoyed the huge rooms and the whirlpool bath.

Quiet, clean and comfortable

3.8 on February 28, 2017

Overall, I had a very nice stay with Kris and Jill. I was greeted by Jill whom quickly got me acquainted with the inn and information for my stay. I was there for 3 nights business travel. Kris prepared such nice breakfasts that I skipped my daily lunches. The shower was very nice with plenty of hot water. I stayed in Mr Smith's room. It has a 13" color tube TV. A little hard to get used to at first but I grew up in the generation which these were mas produced. Younger folk may not understand. Creaky wood floors didn't bother me either. Finding conveniently located electrical sources for today's many electronics could be an issue but I did at least find one extension cord in the night stand which helped. An aroma of musty antiques are detectable so keep in mind the things that often come with century old Victorian relics. I happen to appreciate this one.

worth the trip

4.6 on February 21, 2017

We were more than satisfied with our experience at Philip Smith Bed and Breakfast. Both hosts Kristopher and Jill were friendly, informative and helpful in our get away weekend in Richmond, In addition to the excellent conditions of this historic house, our hosts were helpful tour guides in providing an historical information for our weekend.

Outstanding Stay!!

5 on February 20, 2017

This is out third visit and this time we stayed in The Campbell Inn. We could not have been more pleased. Beautiful...relaxing and comfortable. Jill is a fabulous host and the breakfast was delicious! We highly recommend this establishment for a quiet getaway or if you are passing through! Todd and Lyn Dillon

Nice find in Richmond

My wife and I stayed here for a weekend getaway. The rooms were clean and nice. My wife loves the older homes. The owner Jill was very friendly and helpful. She recommended events around town and places to eat. We had a nice weekend and good food. We would recommend staying here.

A Beautiful Victorian Near Earlham College

4.4 on December 11, 2016

I needed a place to stay near Earlham and the local hotels were a bit of a drive and not very interesting. Smith's B&B seemed much more what I was looking for. I wasn't disappointed. A beautifully restored grand Victorian home, a very personable innkeeper, and a comfortable room and bed. I recommend it!

Great two day getaway

4.2 on December 06, 2016

We had a nice two days to unwind a bit and do some shopping in some of the great antique shops in the area. Jill is a great host. I'm sure we will be back.

great one night stop

5 on November 23, 2016

I needed a place to stay mid way on a trip from Pennsylvania to Missouri. The room was cosy and comfy. The home is beautiful and quaint. The breakfast was delish! would recommend this grand home for a short or long stay

Excellent visit!

5 on November 15, 2016

Service was outstanding ... breakfast was great .... innkeeper was a joy to talk with. Very knowledgeable of the home and the community.

Beautiful historic home close to Earlham

4.8 on October 27, 2016

What a lovely historic home with beautiful historic furnishings. Breakfast was creative and delicious. Jill was happy to adjust breakfast for my daughters who are both gluten sensitive. This was our first stay in a Bed and Breakfast, and we will be back. We were in Richmond for Homecoming at Earlham College, where my youngest daughter is a sophomore and plays on the Women's Soccer Team. We had a very nice stay and especially enjoyed having breakfast with Earlham alumni of varying ages. Last year I stayed at a motel, breakfast included. I didn't meet or talk to anyone else staying there even though there were clearly many Earlham alumni at the motel and at breakfast. It's an additional advantage that the Philip W. Smith Bed & Breakfast is much closer to Earlham than the motel district. We had a great stay. The only negative is that the sign is difficult to see, so we drove around the block multiple times before determining that we were at the right place. Glad we found it! What a great weekend!

Labor Day Getaway

3.6 on September 17, 2016

Owners were knowledgeable of the area and made suggestions to visit. Kris was on his own the night we stayed but did a wonderful job.

Great stay

4.6 on September 07, 2016

We enjoyed the time we had at the Smith BnB. Very nice accommodations. Service was excellent and friendly. Would recommend staying here for a quiet time.

wonderful stay

5 on August 28, 2016

the room was charming and the breakfast was fabulous. We enjoyed meeting the host and talking about Richmond. I highly recommend it! The mansion is so well preserved and decorated. The evening snacks in the upstairs hall were a surprise treat!

Jill and Chris are dedicated and pleasant hosts!

5 on August 25, 2016

I have stayed with the Nelsons twice and they could not have been more pleasant and accommodating. I will definitely be staying with them again on my visits to Richmond.

Earlham Parent

3.8 on August 23, 2016

Very nice rooms, lots of cool antiques. This is a good option when you want to visit Earlham College. The only thing I would want to have changed would be to have more healthy options for breakfast.

Nice Place - Exactly What You'd Expect

3.4 on August 06, 2016

Beautiful, interesting home & furnishings. Jill was friendly and knowledgeable, but not intrusive. Breakfast was wonderful, and I had more than my share of yummy cookies in the evening! Other guests were friendly too. I'm actually not a big fan of historic B&B's, which is why my ratings are not higher, as opposed to anything being "wrong." (I was there with someone who likes them.) My room was tiny (but I expected that), I made sure I didn't get one with a claw foot tub (they creep me out), but of course it had a pedestal sink (I expected that), so I had to put my things on the toilet seat, and then leaned over to get something, stood up, and whacked my head on a little glass shelf. Had to move the mirror over in order to plug in my hair dryer. Sink stopper mechanism disconnected when I used it. Etc. I'm sure people in the 1890's had worse problems. I suspect Jill & Kris are rather overwhelmed with work and don't always have time to check every little detail like a sink stopper every day (I did let Jill know about it). But it was still a beautiful home, and my room was clean and the bed was comfortable. If you like historic B & B's (and if you're on this website, you probably do!), you will love it.

Lovely B & B

4.6 on July 29, 2016

Lovely home, friendly staff, food was excellent.

A Wedding get away

4.8 on July 14, 2016

Three room cousin get together in Richmond IN at P W Smith B&B

5 on June 11, 2016

Second stay here. This time invited traveling buddies knowing they would have a good experience - and they did! The 3 couples had a great time with accommodations, breakfast, hospitality from owners, and suggested attractions.

Indy weekend

3.6 on June 02, 2016

We stayed in room # 3. Loved the room. Did not love not having a shower. I really should have made sure we had a bathroom with at least a shower curtain around the claw foot tub. We did not have breakfast either the days we stayed because we left too early.

Innkeeper Response
We appreciate your feedback! Guest room 3 does feature the original claw foot tub only with a hand held shower. Some people love a good soak. All other guestrooms feature showers only. As always, we strive to accommodate our guests' needs. For our early departures (prior to 6:30am) we do place out continental breakfast items. PS: Hope you enjoyed your replacement yogurt on day 2 !

Fantastic B andB!!!!

5 on May 30, 2016

Very beautiful house and awsome house!!

Another fantastic stay!

5 on May 16, 2016

Jill and Chris have consistently been great hosts. Top notch service, clean and comfortable, great breakfast and evening snacks.

Second time

5 on April 30, 2016

This was was our second visit. My basket weaving buddy and I come to Richmond each year for Stateline Friends Basket Retreat. We love it here, much nicer than when we stayed in the local hotels. We intend to stay here each year in our cute little room with the twin beds. So I'm very hesitant to give a review lest someone steals it from us! The owners are very nice and accomodating. Food is wonderful! The house is an old Victorian house with old house charms and quirks that makes our stay so fun. Charms: beautiful stained glass windows, beautiful wood work and antiques. Quirks: in our room a very small stand up shower that you don't want to drop the soap in. Lol!

4.6 on April 29, 2016

Having stayed her numerous time, I can attest to the ambience and consistency of this B&B. The Innkeepers are always gracious and accommodating, and go out of their way to meet any request made of them. being located close to the Depot District makes it wonderfully convenient for shopping, dining and exploring. The building itself is historic and beautiful, having original woodwork from a lumber baron who built it. They offer two different breakfast times for early risers and those who sleep in, which I find most welcome. Looking forward to my next stay! Laura Lawson

historic Richmond b and b

4.2 on April 02, 2016

Beautiful woodwork inside, convenient location, breakfast was delicious, our bed very comfortable and room cozy (request a room that does not face the main road, can be noisy from cars). Innkeeper very nice and was fast in responding to inquiry emails and made area tecommendations. Parking is on side street however innkeeper let us park in her driveway next door. Very convenient location

Better than I imagined!

5 on February 29, 2016

I decided to whisk my hubby away for a pre-Valentine's getaway. We chose to stay at the Campbell house which is a beautiful Arts & Craft home. Having never stayed at a B&B, I was a little apprehensive, but so glad we did! We were greeted by the owner, Kristopher, when we arrived. He was pleasant and engaging as he offered us a tour of the property. Each room was warm and clean, and the rustic charm was amazing! We stayed in the king-size-suite, and the room was decorated in period pieces. There was a whirlpool tub connected to this suite which was relaxing on a cold night. The bed was very comfortable, bedding was immaculate, and the pillows were heavenly. Our host made us dinner reservations at "The Olde Richmond Inn" which was nice. The next morning, we had the most amazing breakfast at the Inn cooked by Kristopher. (I would come again just for the breakfast!) During that time, we learned even more history about the home and the city of Richmond. I would highly recommend this property, and we plan on returning soon!

Very nice and affordable B&B

4.8 on February 26, 2016

Enjoyed our one night stay in this B&B in downtown Richmond, IN. The owners operate two separate adjacent homes. He runs one and his wife runs the other. He runs the one we stayed in and we were very pleased. Although the home is old it has been updated in the ways of convenience. Like, instant hot water in the upstairs. We may return someday.

Best B&B in Richmond

4.6 on January 08, 2016

Very nice stay. Meals were good and allergies were taken into consideration.

Thank you!

5 on November 22, 2015

The Campbell Inn B & B was a beautiful place to stay. Evening dessert and breakfast were amazing! Thank you so much for sharing your home with us! P.S. I always felt like I had to pet the kitty on the way up/down the stairs for good luck. :)

Rainy Day Stay

4.6 on August 15, 2015

Chris was very very personable and helped us with whatever we needed and he made us breakfast in the morning and it was delicious.

5 on June 22, 2015

The service was superb! The house was majestic with its intricate woodwork down to the parquet floors. The bed was big and mattress was firm the sheets were crisp and clean and the bathroom was clean as well. The hosts, gave wonderful recommendations about where to dine as well as activities around the town to explore. Overall, a very pleasant experience!

Exploring the Riches of Richmond, IN

4.8 on June 16, 2015

We came to Richmond to explore my husband's home town, and came away learning a great deal more! The experience at the Parry Bed and Breakfast was great--lovely room, good food, and great hosts! The Nelsons are well versed in the history of Richmond, especially noted through their preservation efforts in town. Kris' knowledge and commitment of the community helped fill in the timeline from the time my husband left his home and returned last week!

Anniversary Stay

4.2 on May 29, 2015

Beautiful old home with period furnishings. The owners were very friendly and helpful.

My sister and I scheduled Sister Weekend at this wonderful B&B. Jill and Chris are wonderful! The food was excellent and the house was great. We enjoyed sitting outside, it is a convenient location and within walking distance to drugstore, restaurants, and a five minute drive to the mall. My sister said she wouldn't mind going there every year.

Very enjoyable !

My favorite B&B

5 on March 20, 2015

This was my second stay with Jill and Kristopher and I will stay with them the next time I am in town. I think this B&B does an outstanding job making there guests feel safe and comfortable. The details that Jill and Kristopher put into these homes are worth the trip just to see them. The room was clean and cozy, the food was delishous and they made me feel at home. Thank You Rebecca Ormiston from Maryland

Comfortable and Classy Place to Stay in Richmond

4.2 on March 17, 2015

My wife and I stayed at the Martha E. Parry B&B (not the Philip W. Smith B&B) for two nights on a weekend getaway without the kiddos. We were able to relax and enjoy ourselves in the comforts of this historic and classy home. We were the only people staying in the house one night, and then one other guest joined us the second night. The room we stayed in was comfortable and clean, but it was quite small. For the price though, it was a good deal. Breakfasts were healthy, fresh and good. The host was very cordial and attentive to our needs. Dessert (cookies and pound cake) were provided to us each of the two evenings. Tea is available in a small hospitality room with a mini-fridge, sink and microwave. We made use of the fridge and microwave for storing and reheating leftovers from a meal in town one night. There is a lot of nice space for sitting and relaxing. Free Wi-Fi is available. Not all rooms have a DVD player in them, but they do all have Satellite TV. I definitely would stay here again if travelling through Richmond, IN.

Martha Perry - Take Two

4.6 on March 05, 2015

This was my second stay at the Martha Perry House. The innkeepers are very friendly and welcoming and the house is beautiful. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Richmond.

Our first B&B

5 on March 04, 2015

This was our first experience with a B&B and we were amazed. The rooms were decorated true to the period. The room size and bathroom size was great. The view from our window was beautiful in the snow. The hosts were very hospital and made us feel at home. The desert and gourmet breakfast was delicious. There knowledge of the area and the home's family history was impressive. They even cleared the snow off our car for us when it was time to leave. We are definitely going to make this our B&B retreat place.

A wonderful place . . .

5 on February 17, 2015

. . . conveniently located, with real architectural character, and staffed by innkeeper Jill who overflows with with warmth and helpfulness. The perfect arrow for Valentine weekend.

Pleasant and relaxing.

4.8 on December 23, 2014

The location was easy to find. Dinner recommendations were appreciated. Breakfast was lovely. Thank you.

very nice

4.4 on October 17, 2014

My husband and I, love bed and breakfast getaways. Very quite! Great service! Nice rooms! Good value! Our hosts were very knowledgeable about the history of the house and gave great suggestions of places to visit.

Amazing house, great hosts!

5 on August 12, 2014

I too own a small Inn and when I travel I like to stay in places similar to mine. This is truly a diamond in the rough. The owners knew exactly where to send us for antiques and good food. If you are in this area this is the only place you should stay!

Thanks & thoughts!

3.6 on December 09, 2013

Stay was very nice. I was able to enjoy my stay and visit with my friends in good conversation. Would have like bottled water and brewed coffee more available.

Fantastic Time

5 on October 07, 2013

My husband, daughter and I stayed at the Martha Perry House and loved it. It was very comfortable, quiet and clean. We sat on the front porch and enjoyed, then we sat in the back yard nice. The antique shops where great during the day. We will make this a yearly visit.

No more motels

4.2 on September 27, 2013

We've stayed at motels in Richmond for years because of convenience but this year we stayed at the Philip Smith Bed and Breakfast. Cleanliness, comfort, friendliness and good food were far superior to any places we stayed in the past. All our future trips through Richmond will include the Philip Smith B and B.

Fabulous experience!

4.4 on September 22, 2013

Stayed in the Parry House which was very comfortable and host Kris took great care of my wife and me and our 15-year-old daughters. The stay really took us back to a wonderful era! Easy access to all of Richmond, including Earlham College. Would highly recommend as an alternative to cookie-cutter hotels with no personalized service.

Wonderful place to stay!

5 on August 25, 2013

my husband and I stayed here for our first wedding anniversary and boy what a wonderful place to stay. We actually stayed at the Martha Parry home. Everything was wonderful. Kris was very hospitable and made us feel comfortable in every aspect. What a beautiful experience, thank you very much!

A great place to stay.

The house is beautiful, the beds comfortable, the furnishings great, and the inn keeper very friendly. They have thought of every detail. I was worried about noise from the street, but they had a "white noise" machine in the room and it worked beautifully. Would definitely stay here again.

Very disappointing--was not gormet..a slice of cantalope and banana-canned roll and a bad fratata...everything else was great...but we got nothing that looked like the breakfast shown in the listing.

Great B&B in Richmond Indiana

3.6 on July 30, 2012

I stayed at the Martha Parry B&B for 2 nights when attending my high school reunion. I highly recommend that you consider this B&B for a stay, even though you can stay more cheaply at a local chain hotel. The upgrade is definitely worth it. The couple that owns this place did a fantastic job restoring it. The rooms and furnishings are beautiful. The breakfasts were excellent. Jill (and her two small children) was a wonderful hostess. Her husband, in the National Guard, is often away from home on military deployments, but Jill remains cheerful, hard-working, and is a delight to talk to. I stayed in the room they think was Martha Parry's bedroom, with a 4-poster bed, and it was very comfortable, roomy, and well-equipped. There was even a small "kitchenette" on the second floor for the convenience of guests. The B&B is right across main street from Glen Miller Park, a great place for a stroll. The front porch is a nice place to sit and talk in the evenings, too.

Great place to stay in Richmond, IN.!

4.8 on May 16, 2012

We experienced a very pleasant two night stay in Mr. Smith's room and felt very comfortable using the front parlor in the evening. Eileen was very gracious and shared her knowledge of the area to enrich our restaurant and antiquing experiences. The full breakfast was great each day and our food preferences were taken into consideration which was very appreciated. We would stay there again!!

Outstanding place to stay!

My wife and I really enjoyed this place. We will definitely be back. Thanks.

A Wonderful Place to Stay In Richmond!

5 on April 28, 2012

We recently spent two nights at the Martha E Parry Bed and Breakfast while our son was visiting Earlam College and enjoyed our stay tremendously. The inn is fantastically furnished, the breakfasts were wonderful and the hospitality of Jill was fabulous. We enjoyed our conversations with Jill very much and the evening treats were a great way to end the day. The location is very convenient to historic downtown Richmond and Earlham and is right across the street from Glen Miller Park and Richmond's community rose garden. The Currys Peace Dale, RI

Most Amazing Escape

4.8 on April 19, 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Parry house and I say, it was absolutely magnificent. I booked it as a little getaway for my husband and he loved it. We got to Richmond a little late and were not able to enjoy the historic district because everything was closed but the bed and breakfast itself was great enough that we didn't need all that. The room was perfect. We were the only ones there and the owners are just wonderful. Jill's husband came to the house after being gone in the service and still made us, complete strangers, breakfast. He was a great person to have a conversation with and makes an mean plate of food in the morning. It was delicious. I would recommend this over and over again and will probably stay there as often as possible.

Lovely Spot

5 on April 07, 2012

This B&B exceeded my expectations. There is also a mini-kitchen on the second floor available for our use. Jill is perfectly wonderful! She knows the area very well and is happy to provide suggestions and directions - anything we needed. A real gem!

I stayed at the Philip W. Smith Bed & Breakfast for one night over a weekend. It was such a great stay that me and my quest both really enjoyed! The staff was so nice especially the kind lady that checked us in and also made the breakfast. Oh and the breakfast! it was wonderful! homemade and was prepared wonderfully! we really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back to stay again! I WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYONE! Thanks for a great weekend!

This B&B was awesome!

5 on March 29, 2012

Having never stayed at a B&B before, I wasn't sure what to expect. But after this great experience, I will certainly look at B&B's vs. hotels for my future travel needs. The room was quite cozy, clean and affordable. The bed was extremely comfortable and the food and staff were amazing! I loved it and if I ever have an opportunity to travel back to Richmond, IN, I'll definitely stay there again.

We had a very pleasant stay at Philip W. Smith B&B in Richmond, IN. The hostess recommended an excellent restaurant and we had a lovely conversation with her over breakfast. It's a beautiful old house. Too bad that urban sprawl has pu it on a very busy road.

Wonderful B & B

4.4 on November 16, 2011

A great stay at Phillip W. Smith B & B. The owners/hosts were very cordial and friendly. Fabulous breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday morning. The house was beautiful and charming. You cannot find that kind of workmanship in newer building today.

I spent one night in a nice room with a king size bed that was very comfortable. The breakfast was nice, it would have been nicer if I'd had some choice on the meal, I don't eat pork, but the quiche was excellent. I'd certainly stay there again.

A GORGEOUS house with beautiful rooms and furnishings! Loved the evening dessert and shared kitchen--it was perfect! Our bed was wonderfully comfy and the entire room was so comfortable! Thank you for a fabulous stay!

Great base location for antiquing with a group

3.8 on October 21, 2011

My first stay ever at a B&B was as nice as hoped. Met my sisters there for a couple days of antique shopping. A very comfortable and beautifully restored property, the Parry house had private baths for each room and a small second-floor kitchen for guests. Many antique stores within 5-20 minute drive, plus the historic depot area in Richmond, and a very nice park across the street from the B&B. Good restaurant variety in Richmond. I recommend the properties for any traveler, but especially for a family reunion or a ladies' group.

Comfortable and Wonderful B&B

5 on October 18, 2011

My 2 sisters and I stayed at the Parry House for 2 nights while we hunted through the areas many antiques stores. Jill was a great hostess and has created a very pleasant and comfortable B&B to stay at. The mini kitchen upstairs by the rooms is a great asset for guests to store things in the refrigerator or just grab a quick cup of coffee or tea. (Jill also leaves a dessert out for guests in the evening) The rooms we stayed in at the Parry House, rooms #2 & #3, were absolutely great. All 3 of us will definitely be staying there again.

great stay

3.8 on October 06, 2011

Great location right across from Glenn Miller park. The Inn had great character and we really enjoyed our stay. The innkeepers were very nice and helpful. There is an.upstairs communal kitchen with fridge, microwave, coffee, tea, and the innkeeper even had out homemade apple pie while we were there! The only downside is that the WiFi was pretty slow.

I visit richmond around once a year to visit family. This B&B is the only place I stay (over my own family!). Great house, tons of character. The rooms are very clean and comfy. We enjoy the breakfast...Overall, A very relaxing stay. Jill is a great Innkeeper and we always have fun catching up with her when we are in town.

Reunion weekend

4.6 on September 22, 2011

A beautiful old home in a lovely neighborhood. The food and service were exceptional, and the room was very clean. My only complaint is that the shower is extremely small. Also, we had the room fronting on the street (US 40) and the traffic noise was a little intense the first night, but we soon got use to it. My suggestion, next time get a room at the rear or side of the house.

Perfict start to Honeymoon

The stay at the bed and breakfast was a perfict start to our honeymoon, and our new life together. Everything was perfict.

Most relaxing weekend!

5 on August 28, 2011

The 3 nights we stayed at the P W Smith B&B were the most relaxed we have ever experienced at any hotel or B&B!! The atmosphere was calm and soothing, the room was fabulous, the food was great (they even accommodated my food allergies), and the inn keepers Elaine and Jill were superb - so friendly and helpful. They were so knowledgeable about the area and the history of the home. Our daughter lives in the area, so both she and her husband will recommend this B&B to their colleagues and we will tell all of our friends. We will stay again when our daughter's home is full to capacity with family!

A Beautiful Experience

5 on August 22, 2011

The experience exceeded our expectations. The house and the room were spotless, beautiful and completely comfortable. The breakfast was prepared and served in the family style. It was delicious and served in a friendly but professional manner. We had an interesting conversation with the other guests, and left with a warm feeling.

What a blessed stay after long travel

4.8 on August 21, 2011

Directions help: The directions only led us to the Perry House, we were physically told where to go. That was scary trying to make the 6pm deadline and being exhausted not knowing why we couldn't get access to our B&B. Once we were in the right location the tension dissipated and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Try to guide guests to one B&B with specific address's to each. The park across from the MP house would be a solid land mark too. Also, when directions are for the PS house guests should know where to go for parking.

5 on August 19, 2011

Jill was very kind to us during our stay. It was our anniversay weekend and she recommended great places to eat and she gave us our privacy. Thank you for a great weekend.

Not my last stay at the Martha Perry B+B

5 on August 14, 2011

This was my very first time at a B+B and I couldn't have been more excited and the Perry B+B did not disappoint. From the moment I stepped thru the front door I felt I had been taken back in time and for someone interested in family history it was a great treat. i can't say enough about the cleanliness, hospitality or food. I look forward to my next trip. Thank you for making myself and my 5 cousins feel welcome. Jo McGinnis

4.6 on July 28, 2011

I really enjoyed my time at this B & B. Everything about it was lovely. The raspberry french toast was especially delicious! My best friend and I are thinking about making this an annual event because we had such a fun time exploring the surrounding small towns looking for antiques.

Good Atmosphere and facilities

4.4 on July 20, 2011

The check-in time was flexible thanks to proper communication. The decoration is beautiful with lots of hard wood antique furniture. I did appreciate having the sitting and sleeping furniture being antique replicas so that I didn't feel like I might break something just through wear and tear. Many of the replicas are also for sale, so if you find something you really like you may be able to buy it. The rooms do not have access to a full kitchen, but there is a kitchenette of sorts in the hallway. It has a microwave, water tank, refrigerator/freezer, various hot drink mixes (tea ect.), silverware, and evening desert. The room was immaculately clean and very comfortable. The breakfast I had was very good, but if you are a picky eater you should let the staff know because the breakfasts are intentionally different than the run of the mill eggs bacon and pan cakes.

My favorite place to stay in Richmond

5 on July 11, 2011

The best place to gather with friends and be in a homey atmosphere. Food and accomodations are great.

Smith B&B

3.4 on July 02, 2011

We stayed in the Smith house. Fascinating woodwork. Delicious food. Most of the accommodations were top notch, and the proprietors were very gracious. The weather outside was hot, which might explain the extra-cold temperature in the bathroom. The reproduction sleigh-bed was attractive, but the mattress was very uncomfortable.

Parry House review

4.0 on June 29, 2011

Our stay was great. We have stayed at the Smith house and thoroughly enjoyed our host so we returned to the Parry House. It is just as lovely as the Smith and the host is very welcoming and gracious. The food was delicious and the rooms in perfect order. We will definitely stay at either again when visiting family in town.

5 on June 15, 2011

My sister and I were visiting Antique Alley and chose this B&B for our accommodations. We couldn't be any more thrilled. Eileen, the caretaker, took care of every need, breakfast was wonderful, and she gave us a good tip for dinner. The home is gorgeous. In fact, the entire neighborhood was lovely. We will be back!

Philip W. Smith - best place to stay in Richmond IN

4.6 on June 13, 2011

My cousin and I make this our destination on Memorial Day week-end. We were raised in the area and have found this the best place to stay. We have our evening "chataquas" in the parlor. Eileen, our hostess,(and Kris's mother) is very gracious and we invite her to join us in our breakfast discussions. Another patron and I banter via the guest book as to which one of us gets to book the room next. The house is beautiful and very clean. Breakfasts are not run of the mill, unless that is what you request.

A beautiful historic home

4.6 on June 01, 2011

This B&B is absolutely beautiful. The furnishings, accessories, wood trim and moldings, built-ins, paint and wallpaper, all were sumptuous, fresh, and interesting. The bed was very comfortable. I wished there had been better light for reading in the bedroom. The cost per night was slightly less than the nearby Hampton Inn, so I considered it a good value. Breakfast was delicious, and the innkeeper was very personable.

A surprise!

A wonderful place to stay while visiting Earlham College

5 on April 24, 2011

My daughter, who has been accepted at Earlham College, and I stayed at the Martha E. Parry House B&B while visiting Earlham. I've stayed at many B&B's, but this one (and I assume the Philip W. Smith House, also owned and operated by Jill and Kris Nelson) is special. It's a restored Victorian with stunning stained glass windows, mahogany woodwork, and painted and molded ceilings and furnished with antique reproductions which may be custom ordered. Comfortable, quiet, and luxurious, yet in the same price ballpark as Richmond, IN hotels. We stayed in a bedroom with a canopied bed, sofa, fireplace, armoire, and TV/DVR. Our private bathroom had a claw-footed tub and shower head. High-quality towels and sheets. A small kitchen down the hall is available for guest use and is stocked with paperback books, DVDs, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, microwave, coffee and coffee maker, tea, dishes and silverware, and small frig. Home-made, individually wrapped desserts are left for the guests in the refrigerator nightly. Breakfasts are delicious and filling. The hosts are friendly, charming, and knowledgeable about the area and gave great restaurant recommendations. We were very pleased, and I'll look forward to staying here again while visiting my daughter at Earlham.

Wonderful place to stay

4.6 on April 17, 2011

We were greeted by our host on Friday night, and were shown around the house. Kris told us about the history of the house and pointed out some of the beautiful architectural detailing including the sirens on the staircase and the stained glass window. There was a dessert waiting for us on the sideboard, which was a lovely touch. Breakfast was delicious, ample and friendly both mornings. I am so glad we chose to stay here while visiting Earlham. We will be back.

It could be so much better

3.6 on October 26, 2010

Other reviews cover the wonderful attributes of the B&B but make no mention of challenges we experienced, so we focus here on unpleasant surprises we encountered. The Smith house is beautiful with stained glass windows, roll-down doors, antiques, etc. The decor is lovely but rooms contain more furniture than shown on the website. Photos of multiple generations cover the sign-in desk, dining room buffet, and piano top suggesting we're intruding in someone's personal space. Fewer would be better. We stayed in the sun porch, which is lovely but filled with the B&B's stuff. A much-needed table beside the bed meant one of us had to crawl over the foot to get in and out. A small pie-safe is full with a small t.v. (ok with us--we were not there to watch t.v.) and additional linens. The bath is very nice and clean but lacked space for our items except for a slanted small glass wall shelf holding soap dish, mini-paper cups, etc. A wire rack over the bedside table, about 8 ft above the floor, substitutes for a closet and requires careful use of a long handled hook to let down and put up clothing on hangers. When hung, my husband's trousers blocked the light of the bedside lamp. An upholstered chair may be intended to hold decorative bed pillows, but we put some on an extra bath rug from the pie safe, placed fiber side down, and slid them under the bed. The remaining pillows were stacked on our luggage so we could use the chair. To the inn owners, I suggest: replace the small pie safe with a larger--taller, wider--armoire to house t.v., hold additional linens and allow drawers, shelves and hanging space for traveler's clothes. For the bath, a small multi-shelf wheeled cart for personal care products, haircare items, etc. would be wonderful and by virtue of mobility, would not block or crowd visitors of many builds and sizes.

A Favorite

We've stayed here many times as our daughter is a student at Earlham College in Richmond. It's a lovely family run B and B with great attention to detail. Jill and Chris and Eileen are warm and friendly. Their two young children are included in your welcome. It's all charming and relaxing. There is an extensive park and rose garden across the street just meant for wandering. When our daughter graduates we'll have to find some excuse to return for another visit.

We will return.

This is the second time we have stayed here and both times we were met at the door. The upstairs buffet with coffee and night time dessert provide an added touch. We used the refrigerator and one of the many corkscrews available.

Best B&B in Richmond

Pleasant Visit to PW Smith B&B

5 on August 18, 2010

The wood work is beautiful in the Victorian home. Prices reflect the size of the rooms. We stayed at the smaller bedroom which was adequate for our needs. The room was comfortable and had a clean private bathroom with shower. The hostess gave a great recommendation for dinner at the Old Richmond Inn. She also had brownies waiting for us when we arrived. The breakfast was delicious with egg quiche, fresh fruit, and recently baked biscuits. We would return to the PW Smith B&B if the opportunity presented itself.
