Had a great time at the Queen Anne Guest House for our anniversary. It was our first time staying at this B&B and it was wonderful! The innkeeper Mike is a GREAT guy and WOW can he cook!! Loved his Kitty Princess to! Will definitely be back.

Mike was a warm and hospitable host, making us feel at home as soon as we entered the front door. My favorite thing was the wonderful stories he told us during breakfast. We stayed in the Lady Ashley room. It is more beautiful than the pictures show, but is quite small, with the (extremely comfortable) bed taking up most of the space. The adjoining bathroom is nearly as large as the room itself and the fireplace across from the large tub make for a romantic and relaxing evening.

We had a lovely time at Queen Anne. The house is beautiful, and the breakfast was wonderful! The only downsides were a few loud trains, and the shower was a little claustrophobic due to the claw foot tub setup. All in all, it was a great place to stay.

My wife and I stayed there one night recently for our 14th wedding anniversary. This place isn't trying to be flashy or trendy. It is just a good classic bed and breakfast. The inn itself was very cozy and inviting...and the room very comfortable. Our host was awesome and the breakfast great. The innkeeper was such a good cook I would have happily paid more to have him make my dinner also! I would have no hesitation recommending this place to someone else and look forward to staying there next year.

This was our first bed and breakfast stay and we decided to go to Galena for a short honeymoon getaway after our wedding. The Queen Anne Guesthouse was a very beautiful house with amazing hosts! I was able to surprise my wife with a different package each night when we returned and everything was wonderful. The breakfasts were unbelievable with such things that we had never before experienced. Mike and Anita were so very nice and it was a pleasure to sit around the table and have discussions every morning. We have already made our plans to come back every year for our anniversary! - Michelle, Rockford, IL

Spent an enjoyable weekend evening here. Truly felt welcomed and valued as a guest. The ambiance of this circa 1891 building coupled with the opportunity for conversation and camaraderie with our host and the other guests both at the evening parlor social and breakfast the following morning made for a very enjoyable and memorable experience. The breakfast was a gourmet delight, complete with special accommodations made for my wife's food allergies.

This was our first bed and breakfast stay and we made the best choice! We came here for a little honeymoon getaway and it is now going to be our anniversary tradition every year. The hosts Mike and Anita were so very nice and we enjoyed the amazing breakfasts each morning. The house is just so beautiful and in a very nice, quiet location just a short walk from Galena downtown. I requested the cheese lovers package and the some enchanted evening package to surprise my wife and was not disappointed. We can't wait to come back next year! Michelle, Rockford, IL

Stay was very nice. There is lots to do in Galena. It is a beautiful town. The Queen Ann is a great place to stay. Parlor party at 5PM was nice surprise and lots of good conversation with folks from all over. Breakfast was very good and you do not go away hungry. Would stay here again. Do recommend to others. Only complaint was to train engineer that decided to blast his horn at 0130AM for no reason except being a total jerk. Next night nothing an slept like a baby.

Thanks Mike for a nice time. We stayed in the Lady Ashley room. The bed was a bit too soft for me, but the Jacuzzi tub, TV, and breakfast was great. There is a good selection of clean movies available to use. We met some nice people from Iowa that were also staying there. Mike gave us a good overview of restaurants and things to do in Galena. Celebrated my wife's birthday and walked the 191 steps up to the old High School. Nice relaxing time.

Our 87 year old mother had never stayed at a B&B. My sister and I decided to take mom to the Queen Anne and we were not disappointed! Mike is an exceptional innskeeper! Our room was perfect for the three of us. Breakfast both mornings was delicious and portions were very generous. Mike is very knowledgeable about where to find anything we were looking for during our stay in Galena. The history of the house was enchanting. It was evident Mike and Anita did their research when decorating the house. The victorian decor throughout the house was delightful. We'll definitely be back! All the way home mom didn't stop talking about what a wonderful experience she had!

This was our first trip to Galena and first stay at a B&B. Queen Anne far exceeded any expectations we had. The house was absolutely beautiful with so much history, but still had all the modern day convinces of electric fireplaces, free wifi and premium cable tv. The breakfasts every morning were absolutely delicious. The house is a quick 10 minute walk away from the main street of Galena. There is even a pedestrian bridge right outside the house. We are already looking forward to another trip to Galena and to Queen Anne. I would highly recommend.

We enjoyed our stay at the Queen Anne, but we were not hugely impressed by the food. Our first morning was a very sweet breakfast and the second was a mediocre egg dish. The room was lovely with a nice bathtub, and Mike provided friendly service.

The Queen Anne is a beautiful B&B. Mike the owner is a tremendous host. I have already booked another stay.

I stayed here for the Halloween weekend with my boyfriend. Mike and Anita were very hospitable and kind...the b&b was a beautifully decorated 1891 home. The breakfast each day was so good and conversations with the other couples was very nice. We stayed in the lady Ashley room with a Jacuzzi tub which does not have a shower as it stayed on the website...I love taking baths...if you are a bath person and want to soak with your sweetheart...then this is the room for you. Great price, great people and great b&b!

My wife and I stayed at the Queen Anne Guest House over the memorial day weekend. It was first time at a B&B. The host Mike was very nice and informative about the house and local attractions. The resturants that he suggested were all great. We can't wait to back. The location also was walking distance to downtown Galena.

Upon taking my girlfriend to historic Galena for the first time, I knew staying in a B&B was the way to go and the Queen Anne Guest House ticked all the boxes. The location to both main street and Grant's home is ideal. Not only are the Victorian rooms cozy (we stayed in the Queen Anne room) but you also get free reign of the downstairs parlor and sitting room anytime you like. But the best aspect of our stay were the uniquely delicious breakfasts prepared by Mike, who is full of stories and info about where to go in town. If we ever make it back to Galena we know where we'll be staying!

My husband and I needed a little getaway and we couldn't have chosen a more perfect place to stay! The home is charming and beautiful, Our host, Mike, was an amazing chef and a fun and interesting person to visit with. We stayed in the Queen Anne room which has a little nook to sit in which is part of the turret. It looks out over a peaceful bike trail along the river. Our room had a 4 post bed, a cozy little fireplace and a clawfoot tub! Every morning at 7 there is a cart in the hallway with delicious coffee and teas. The breakfast is served in a beautiful dining room and is the best we have ever had, worthy of a 5 star chef's restaurant! We were a short walk from a charming foot bridge that leads right to the downtown shopping district of Galena. At 5 we enjoyed visiting with our host and fellow guests at the parlor party, where Mike serves refreshments while you sit on Victorian furniture in front of a gorgeous fireplace. There you can learn about the history of Galena, things to do, local fishing and recreation, or just enjoy fun conversation. If you want a fairy tale experience when visiting Galena, you must stay here! Thanks Mike and Anita!

The home is beautiful and clean, we stayed in the Lady Ashley room...it is small but romantic and has a very nice large 2 person Jacuzzi tub :) There were many things we enjoyed about our stay and what we enjoyed the most was the owner/innkeeper/chef Mike!! He was very enjoyable and fun to be around and talk with and he is a wonderful cook! Breakfast was just wonderful each morning. We Stayed at the Queen Anne Guest House in late October from Monday through Thursday for our Honeymoon. This was our first time staying at a Bed and Breakfast and we will surely do it again! The house was well kept and warm, and Mike was an amazing host. The parlor party was an excellent way to get to know the other guests and the breakfasts were absolutely AMAZING! Everyday brought a new flavored coffee, and all were very tasty! We stayed in the Lady Ashley, which is the smallest room, but the jacuzzi tub and electric fireplace in the bathroom made it well worth it. The walk into town was so easy we did it various time each day, and we aren't exactly walkers in our everyday lives. It was also a part of the Galena Trolley tour which was really cool. We found ourselves homesick for the Queen Anne after returning home, we will definitely return!

We stayed at the Queen Anne on Columbus Day weekend and had a wonderful time. The house was beautiful and the room was very comfortable, clean, and had all the modern amenities you would like for our family of three, with 14 year old daughter. The location was within a short walk to downtown Galena and the craft fair that was going on. The breakfast prepared by Mike was out of this world and the tiramisu coffee was a special treat. Will definitely go back again, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

While I already had high expectations for my first B&B stay, Mike surpassed them. The Queen Anne is a gorgeous home located on a quiet street in the historic district. Our room, the Sir William, was decorated beautifully. Mike is very knowledgeable about the area and its history. He's also an excellent chef. We were "wowed" with breakfast the next morning. I'd love to return again. Right now, though, I have wonderful memories for my silver anniversary!

My husband and I visited for our honeymoon (we stayed in the Lady Ashley room). The Queen Anne is charming and our host, Mike, prepared a tasty breakfast each morning. He was very personable and offered great suggestions for sightseeing. Our room was pleasant, though smaller than we expected (no real place to put the suitcase) and the mattress rolled you to the well in the center. The two-person whirlpool tub was wonderful! We would stay again, but I would choose a different room.

Michael met us as soon as we arrived. He helped carry luggage, worked at getting us settled in. The room was very neat, plush. The other rooms were occupied but we never heard anyone. The breakfasts were very special and well done. We loved the side screened porch. We played cards and Boggle each day and used this during a period of rain. I've been sharing with all of our friends to look into staying here.

My daughter and I just loved this B & B. We arrived at 4:00 p.m. Mike gave us a tour of his beautiful home and told us there was a parlor party at 5:00! We were served snacks and juices and Mike told us about the history of this lovely Victorian home. It was so relaxing. When we got back from dinner we were greated by a tea cart just outside our door with the most flavorful teas we have ever tasted! In the morning, our breakfast was wonderful! I have been to many B& B s in Galena and this one is top notch! Just a short walk to shopping too!
4.8 on March 11, 2014
IMO the most important part of a B&B stay is the owner. Luckily, the owners of this awesome 19th century house, Mike and Anita, did not disappoint. They were very welcoming and extremely nice. Anita was a wonderful and entertaining cook. She dished out a broiled & salted grapefruit and a fried egg lentil salad with buttered toast for breakfast that was extremely delicious and I don't usually even like grapefruit! The house itself is very rich in history and Mike was happy to tell us all about it. Beautiful furnishings, stained glass windows, and there's even a large sword on the wall. I'm a guy, and guys love swords. My wife and I stayed in the Lady Ashley room. It used to be the nursery of the house so it is the smallest room but that fact by no means diminishes how great the room is. It is beautiful and cozy, just the way we like it. I'm not a super fan of huge open rooms so it was perfect for us. The room is connected to what used to be the servant's quarters (and is now the bathroom) which is a fairly decent size and sports a large jacuzzi/bathtub. Everything was very clean and tidy. Overall our stay was very enjoyable, the hosts were great and Galena itself is a great town with lots of wineries and shops to explore. Go check it out! -Travis from Peoria

My husband and I try to get to Galena once a year. It had been hit and miss the last three or four years. We were able to get there for a couple days and one night over Thanksgiving weekend. We picked Queen Anne Guest House at the last minute (we usually stay in motels due to possible weather issues in winter months). The room was a little on the small side but clean with comfortable bed. We rated it only a 3 since we had some water issues which I'm sure the owner will take of. Our host Mike provided us a snack and conversation the evening we arrived. His breakfast was very good the next morning. We'd stay here again if we get the chance.

Meticulously restored painted lady Victorian home and beautifully furnished with period pieces. Comfortable, cozy room complete with modern amenities. The inn is a short, scenic walk to the town of Galena. The house is located on a quiet street with many architectural styles. The host, Mike, was a wealth of local information. He prepared sumptuous gourmet breakfasts and joined us for conversation. At the 5pm parlor party we interacted with many of the other guests. Surprisingly, we were not the only anniversary couple that weekend! Great accommodations and nice town for a mini vacation.

Our stay at the Queen Anne guest house was wonderful. From the beautifully decorated Victorian home to the delicious breakfast, we couldn't have asked for more. Our hosts, Mike and Anita were welcoming, friendly and extremely accommodating. The B&B was an easy stroll to Galena's Main Street but in a quiet residential area. So the location was perfect. My only recommendation to future visitors is to bring your own wine or adult beverage to the 5:00 pm Parlor Party. The Queen Anne does not have a liquor license so they cannot pour or serve. But guests can! :-). Great value at the Queen Anne Guest House!

The owner was the greatest. He made you feel right at home and he knows his Galena history. The breakfasts were outstanding. I will miss them. All the little touches like the parlor gathering was a great way to know the others staying at the B&B. By the time we left, we had made 7 new friends. We will go back there again some day.

Nice place to stay when visiting Galena. Breakfast was very good every morning and the hosts were very nice people, who were also very helpful and knowledgeable about events and places in the area. I would recommend.

This is a lovely spot and the host is nice, but it was very inaccessible for elderly guests. The stairs are steep, inside and out, and the tub is difficult to get into. It's important to inform potential guests if they tell you that they are elderly, so that they can make an informed decision.

We looked for and found the Victorian splendor at the Queen Anne Guest House. Although the bedroom and bath itself was cramped for the two of us, the décor in the room and throughout the common rooms was beyond wonderful! Enormous care has been made to adorn the art and furniture and whole ambiance with the authentic feel of the 1890s. We were indeed taken back in time aesthetically in every way at this marvelous home.

Arriving in Galena, we faced a difficult situation and Mike was very gracious and went beyond the required to make our stay comfortable and pleasant. The location of Mike and Anita's bed and breakfast is also a major plus. Located across the river from Main Street, the Queen Anne Guest House was located in a quiet residential neighborhood - perfect for those looking for a quiet retreat. There is a short 10 minute walk across a pedestrian bridge located next to a walking trail to all of the favorite shops and restaurants. We would highly recommend stopping in and visiting Mike and Anita at the Queen Anne. If you are serious about a wonderful experience, you would want to check this place out. Susan, Rochester, MN

From the service, to the room, to the food, to the people. Mika and Anita truly create a fantastic experience for their guests. The history of this house alone I thought was awesome, but it wouldn't be anything unless Mike and Anita kept true to the way they bring it to life, and they do it wonderfully. I cannot say enough about what a memorable visit we had to Galena, and we owe a great deal of that to our stay here.

If you are considering a stay in Galena at a B&B, then you need to seriously consider the Queen Anne Guest House. Mike and Anita did a wonderful job of making you feel comfortable in their home. We stayed in the Queen Anne room and it was beyond our expectations. The bedroom wasn't the biggest, but it wasn't claustrophobic either. The bed was comfortable and the décor matched the Victorian style of the home. Our bathroom was surprisingly large and had all the needed amenities, including large and incredibly soft towels. The inside of house itself was decorated in a style that matched the outside; you could tell that there was thought put into every piece of furniture and detail. Even the dishes used during breakfast were beautiful. Speaking of breakfast, I can't imagine a better breakfast. Mike and Anita consciously prepared a breakfast to meet the needs of their guests. The peach, coffee, and overnight French toast served to us during our stay would alone would be worth visiting again for - what a treat! The location was also a major plus. Located across the river from Main Street, the Queen Anne Guest House was located in a quiet residential neighborhood - perfect for those looking for a quiet retreat. For both days we stayed, a short 5-10 minute walk across a pedestrian bridge located next to a walking trail got us to all of our new favorite shops and restaurants. Overall, this was our first trip to Galena and our stay at this B&B made it a fantastic first experience. We would highly recommend stopping in and visiting Mike and Anita at the Queen Anne. If you are serious about a wonderful experience, you would give this place a look.

The Queen Anne Guest House was a perfect compliment for our 20th anniversary. We stayed two nights. The location is in easy walking distance to everything in town. The Civil War history of the area was fantastic. Galena is a great get away for anyone. An overall wonderful, beautiful experience at the Queen Anne Guest House.

This is a beautiful Painted Lady B&B, which is exquisitely furnished with antiques and a cozy fire place in the bedroom. A delicious and elaborate breakfast was a total surprise to us. It is located just couple minutes to the Galena downtown in a quiet residential area. Definitely it is a place one can recommend to a friend.

This is a large Victorian home with a lot of personality. Not only does this property exude charm and character, so does it's host, Mike. The accommodations were lovely (with the softest towels ever) and the gourmet breakfast was to die for. Every evening at 5 p.m. there is an evening gathering to allow the guests to mingle and enjoy a beverage and snack, at which we were able to find more about the quaint and charming town of Galena. We look forward to a return in the fall.

Beautiful house in a good Galena location - away from the busy part of town but an easy walk across the pedestrian bridge. Room small but nicely set up, good television in room, bed comfortable, bathroom attractive and very clean. Some nice extras, like a pitcher of ice water on arrival, coffee on the landing outside the room in the morning. I have two complaints about things that might not bother everyone but were definitely issues for us. First, the windows in the room could not be opened. The storm windows were in place, and it's obvious that they never take them off. This was a great disappointment to me - to have to use an air conditioner when the weather outside was perfect. Second, there is one time for breakfast: 8:30. No flexibility on that. Sunday morning...8:30 breakfast...have mercy. I recommend calling ahead to check on any details that are important to you.
5 on April 28, 2013
The home is wonderful, with a lot of neat little bits of history from old books to things on the wall. As history nerds, my wife and I really enjoyed that aspect of the Queen Anne. Mike is a wonderful guy, very interesting, and makes you feel at home right away. The food was wonderful and the room was lovely. I would very much recommend the Queen Anne to anyone staying in Galena. The home itself is just around the corner from downtown Galena.

We stayed in the Lady Ashley room--a bit claustrophobic--but the large jacuzzi tub was nice in the bathroom. Breakfast was delightful. Walking distance to downtown shopping/dining.

This was our first visit at a bed and breakfast it was wonderful it exceeded our expectations! The room we stayed in was The Lady Ashley it was a beautiful room and very clean, the bed was very comfortable. The jacuzzi was big enough for two to sit in comfortably. The breakfast was great I ate foods that I normally wouldn't eat, but Mike made them very delicious! We would defanately stay there again. The walk to downtown was so easy and fast. My only regret was I forgot to buy a cookbook.
4.2 on March 11, 2013
The food was delicious and the proprietor was terrific about taking dietary concerns into account. Accommodations were lovely, and there is a nice hiking trail not far from the house. Additionally, you can walk into town via a nearby pedestrian bridge. The best amenity? Ashes, the queen of the Queen Anne. This sweet cat greets guests when you arrive, keeps tabs on your comings and goings, and even escorts you to the pedi bridge -- then awaits your return to escort you home.

My husband took me here for my birthday and we really enjoyed it. The house is big and although it's victorian style, the rooms are up to date with flat panel tvs and all the cabel you could enjoy. The decor is very beautfil, rooms clean, and beds comfy. It's been a few months now since our stay but I think the husband's name is Mike. He was very nice and so helpful giving us suggestions for places to eat. Also, this house is pretty much in walking distance from the heart of the town. And of course, I can't forget to mention breakfast. Soooooo good!!

Some people don't care much about breakfast at a bed and breakfast, but I want amazing and the breakfast at Queen Anne Guest House was truly amazing. And huge. You won't need lunch. Be surprised by what is served. They have unique offerings that are absolutely delicious and will accommodate dietary restrictions with notice. Continuing with food, they also offer an evening parlor party with drinks and elegant munchies. As well, they provide tea or coffee in the morning well before breakfast. The B&B is quite nicely decorated and very pleasant. It is located in a residential neighborhood a short walk from downtown. It was our first time to Galena, so I didn't know if we should be in the thick of the action downtown or further out. We made the right choice. I didn't find downtown to be quite so charming and endearing as others seem to, so I was glad to be in a quiet area. It's also walking distance to Grant House, another popular attraction that was very interesting.

We were surprised when we arrived at the Queen Anne to see that it was a bit run down on the outside and there was no off street parking available. However, we were greeted by Mike who was very friendly and helped us get our luggage up to our room. He and Anita gave us a great tour of the house and lots of helpful tips on how things work (doors, codes, lights, etc.). Our room was comfortable and clean, and the towels were luxurious. The parlor party was fun and we enjoyed chatting with Mike, Anita and the other guests. We walked to downtown Galena for dinner and felt very safe, even after dark. The coffee and tea available early in the morning was appreciated. The breakfast was very good, and Mike and Anita gave us some helpful suggestions for things to do in the area. They do a few little extra things that add to the charm of the home. We enjoyed our stay!

We had an ABSOLUTELY wonderful stay at the Queen Anne. The owners are so very friendly and their parlor parties are a great time to talk about the fun things some of the other guests are doing around town. Did I mention how delicious the desert and wine are that they serve at them?! The rooms were a bit smaller than I expected - but definitely adorable and worth the price. Food was fantastic, and they were extremely accommodating with picky eaters (me!). Location was prime - off the main strip which can get very noisy with locals after hours... this was within walking distance and very close to the bridge which takes you right to downtown. As of extra ammenities - they had plenty! Movies to borrow, Kareoke to play, patios to sit and drink in the evening. And the Cat - sweetheart! We'll definitely be heading back to Galena again and will be staying at the Queen Anne!

Memorable anniversary My wife and I celebrated our 31st anniversary with a stay at the Queen Ann Guest House in Galena. Mike and Anita welcomed us with open arms into their beautiful home. The little things are sometimes the hardest to do but Mike never failed in making the entire weekend very special. The breakfast each day we were there was superb. I surprised my wife with this overnight stay for our nineteenth wedding anniversary. We will remember our stay for a long time. Our lives and jobs had been getting more and more stressful and our marriage was taking the hit. Just one night at the Queen Anne got us back on the right track. It was very relaxing to get away from it all. The house was beautiful and fully decorated with antique furnishings. We stayed in the Prince George room and my wife slept for over an hour in the original claw foot tub. It was a great experience. The best part of the stay was the interesting conversations we had with both the innkeepers and the other guests. There was a reception from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the parlor with a snack and drinks served. We had very interesting conversations. Breakfast (including the food) was a little formal for my taste, but it was very good. I would have been just as happy with pancakes and sausage. Of course, if you like fine dining for breakfast then you will love this breakfast. Again, the breakfast conversation was the best part.

The host/hostess were very friendly and great hosts. From the greeting on our arrival, to the afternoon "snack and conversation hour" to the wonderful breakfasts that started each day, Mike and Anita made their guests feel welcome and comfortable.

Mike is a gracious host and the Queen Anne was a very pleasant place to stay. The only problem was that the windows are shut with storm windows and one has to sleep with the air conditioning on - which is noisy and one would not expect it at a B7B

My wife and I recently stayed at the Queen Anne for the second time in two years. It is a delightful place that combines the best 19th century charm with modern amenities. The breakfasts are fabulous. The owners (Mike and Anita) and their "employee of the year for 2010", Ashes the cat who lives on their porch, treat you like family. It is clearly a labor of love, not just a business. It feels like home, only better!

Great location. Rooms a bit smaller than anticipated. No real property, just the house. Little garden was not cleaned up. Friendly people. While not a bad experience, would most likely try another B&B on next visit, though returning would not be a bad thing.

On the second morning we were served lentils with spinach and eggs. This brave offering was a very pleasant surprise. We were inpressed! Our hosts were very friendly and personable. The house is interesting and historic. We enjoyed our stay and would gladly return if we should ever be in the area again.

very welcoming accomadations and most interesting atmosphere---food was excellent and owners made us feel at home and very special. Added touch of anniversary quotes and other inspirational writings took everything up a notch would highly recommend to anyone visiting Galena This was our 41rst wedding anniversary weekend and we enjoyed the stay and the town very much--even with the snow and nasty weather. Inside the sun was shining.
4.4 on March 26, 2011
The owners are very welcoming and thorough showing and explaining all about their absolutely beautiful home. Being honest though, if you're going in the nice weather you can walk across the river, but colder months, I may have picked a closer stay to their main street. While the food was superb, I have to watch my blood sugar and the breakfast was too sugary (but delicious the few bites I enjoyed). They push their cookbook a bit too much, almost began to feel uncomfortable at breakfast. Overall, the stay will be exactly as you'd expect in a nice B & B.

My husband and I enjoyed a weekend get-a-way in Galena. We enjoyed our stay at Queen Anne's - particularly the warmth, hospitality, and great conversation with the innkeepers and other guests. The breakfast with other guests was a fun way to start the day and evening cocktails in the parlor was a perfect way to unwind before an evening meal. We really enjoyed our stay and plan to be back!

This was our first time at a B & B. It was a great experience. Mike & Anita are wonderful hosts. We really appreciated how personable they were with us. They treat you like a best friend. They make every effort to make you feel comfortable, share candid conversation with you, and are very knowledgeable about their town and where things are that one might enjoy.

Our stay at the Queen Anne guest house was amazing. There are so many positives, so I will just list a few: our room, the "Lady Ashley" and its jacuzzi tub were perfect, Mike and Anita the innkeepers are wonderful hosts the walk to downtown Galena is short and the 5 pm cocktail hour is a great addition to any day in this friendly, throwback town. This was the first of many trips we will be spending there.

I truly had such a special stay at Queen Anne Guest House. My fiance planned such a romantic trip to Galena (a place I had never been). The city itself is extremely charming, but pulling up to this Victorian style home, it was a delightful surprise. We were greeted with the cutest neighborhood cat Ashes, then a smiling gentleman Mike! Mike showed us the in's and outs of our room then the rest of the home. He was very helpful and had a warmth about him, that made our stay very comfortable. We stayed in the Lady Ashley suite which was gorgeous, had a hot tub with a fireplace in the bathroom and it was very romantic. Each morning we sat around a table enjoying unique, carefully thought out dishes and each evening we enjoyed a special treat with beverages. It was a great time to bond with the inn keepers and other guests. We weren't from the area so Mike and Anita were especially helpful recommending places to go and restaurants to have dinner. One night the weather was a bit miserable, so my fiance and I took advantage of their extensive movie and game selections. It is strange for me to say fiance, but the weekend we stayed at Queen Anne Guest House, not sure if it was the mood of the Bed and Breakfast, but my boyfriend proposed to me. This place certainly sets a tone and I can honestly say it was the best weekend ever and we will be coming back!

5 on December 18, 2010
My boyfriend and I chose this inn to celebrate our one year dating anniversay, which was the first of September. Our stay was December 10th. We had to wait to until then because the inn was booked solid. I must say we are both very glad we waited. The owners of this property are fantastic. We felt like family from the time we entered the house until the time we left. The food that was prepared by the owners was amazing, five star!! Our room in my opinion was the best room in the house (Lady Ashley), check out the photos and you can see it. We couldn't have asked for more!

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful weekend getaway at the Queen Anne Guest House. We stayed in the Queen Anne room, and it was beautiful. Nice-sized bathroom, comfy bed, and fireplace. Very relaxing. Mike and Anita were lovely hosts and excellent cooks. The Parlor Party in the evening was fun, too. We would not hesitate to return.
5 on October 27, 2010
What a great place to stay. Easy access to town and near the park but far enough away from traffic & noise. The little amenities, like the 5pm parlor get together & the tea cart at night & the AM are a real nice touch. The knowledge of the building & area that the owners have is really nice to listen to. Would highly recommend staying here.
5 on October 26, 2010
Very charming home, hosts Mike and Anita were very knowledgable about the area and very hospitable. Quiet and luxurious rooms help you to relax and unwind, and Mike's fantastic breakfasts and parlor parties made you feel as though you were at a friend's home. Their personal touches made the experience extraordinary, highly recommended for a special occasion or relaxing getaway!

We enjoyed our stay at the Queen Anne. The food and innkeepers were amazing. Our only issue was that the windows in the room did not open, so we had to continuously run the window unit air conditioning, and the mattress was a little softer than we would have liked. Other than that, just perfect.

Mike and Anita maintain this outstanding Victorian painted lady. This was our first B&B experience and they set the bar extremely high. There are many in this area, but my wife and I don't even care to try another after our visit. As one can tell from the pictures, the house is beautiful; amazing breakfasts; and the 'palor party' in the afternoon was a great way to meet with other guests. Mike and Anita are the sweetest people you could hope to meet--we shared many laughs and stories together. It was like visiting distant relatives. All this said, the town of Galena is spectacular in itself. There are tons of things to do here for every sort of person. We recommend the Queen Anne Guest House to anyone who appreciates history, Victorian elegance, and warm generous hosts. We will be comming back soon.

We were greeted at the door by our host and personally walked through the house, breakfast time, etc. A pitcher of fresh ice water was brought in for us. A tray of hot drinks in the hallway at night and in the morning were supplied for guests as well. Parlor party at 5:00 was a great opportunity to meet the other guests and talk with Mike and Anita, as well as get great information on Galena. The bed was the most comfortable we've slept in and the breakfast was higher than outstanding! The hosts joined us for wonderful conversation and the stories were wonderful. Ask Mike about the animal slippers! We cannot wait to go back. Ed & Debra...

My wife and I had a perfect 1st anniversary celebration staying at the Queen Anne Guest House. Mike & Anita's welcoming hospitality and great conversations were complimentary to the exquisite Victorian house that's within walking distance of Main Street shopping (or a 5 minute drive). We really enjoyed the 5pm parlor parties that enabled us to mingle with the other guests and learn about the large historical background Galena had to offer, all courtesy of Mike's strong knowledge and excellent story-telling. Not to be forgotten, the awards Mike has won on his gourmet food are well-deserved! The homeade breakfasts and parlor party snacks with wine were absolutely delicious! It's a home away from home, and we will definitely be back to stay with them.

Overall it was a great experience and I would recommend the Queen Anne Guest House to my friends.

My daughter & I stayed at the Queen Anne Guest House for our first mother-daughter get-away, which was also my first stay at a B & B. Anita and Mike were wonderful hosts and we felt completely comfortable in their beautiful Victorian home. The evening "parlor party" was a great time for the guests to meet each other and visit in a relaxed environment. The appetizers served during the parlor parties were delicious - including Mike's award-winning chili made with Galena-brewed beer! The breakfasts were beautifully presented and amazingly delicious! This couple is truly devoted to providing a memorable stay at their beautiful Queen Anne Guest House! I definitely will return to this home, and next time, I'm bringing my husband so he can enjoy the experience!

I came with my sister for a girl's birthday weekend celebration. I cannot say enough WONDERFUL things about our stay at the Queen Anne! From the second we checked in, Mike immediately made us feel welcome, and there were many thoughtful touches throughout our stay. We loved the parlor party-we enjoyed our conversation with Mike so much- who is a gracious, interesting host- that the party "hour" turned into closer to 2 hours! (We loved his stories of local history.) The home is exquisitely appointed. The rooms are extremely inviting, and this is the first time I have stayed in a "hotel" bed where I woke up the next day and my cantankerous back felt better than it did sleeping in my own bed! The clawfoot bathtub was beautiful, and the room felt very private! (Plus, the added modern touch of satellite tv in-room is something hard to find at many hotels!) We spent the evening eating at one of the 2 EXCELLENT restaurants Mike recommended in the area. After coming home, we sat outside on the relaxing porch and played cards, and also met Anita, who is truly a delightful woman! (And checked email via wireless internet- another nice modern touch!) But the highlight was the next morning- I have been fortunate enough to be able to travel in my lifetime, and NEVER have I had a more gourmet or delicious breakfast while travelling! Mike could compete in "Top Chef- Breakfast Edition" and win, HANDS DOWN! :-) The food was unique, delicious, pleasing to the eye- and he and Anita's warm service and conversation during breakfast made us feel very pampered! (Oh, and the early morning coffee/tea carts were a great touch.) I cannot say enough about our experience at the Queen Anne- we would have added a 3rd night, we loved it so much, but they were booked! I guess we'll have to figure out another reason to have a girls' weekend back VERY SOON! I never want to stay at another "regular hotel" again... Thanks Mike and Anita for a truly memorable stay!

Not long ago, my husband and I decided to look for a bed and breakfast in Galena just for a one night getaway. First of all, we didn't know where to start because there are so many to chose from! We finally chose to stay at the Queen Anne guest house mainly because of the price. They had such a reasonable deal for one night on a weekday, we couldn't pass it up. The Innkeepers were wonderful, Mike gave us some really great conversation before dinner. The place was so immaculate and beautiful. We were the only guests at the time and never felt out of place or hurried to leave. Mike brought out hot tea at night before bed and fresh coffee right next to our room in the morning. He also cooked us a wonderful breakfast. We were so pleased to have a relaxing night away from our busy daily lives and will definitely suggest this bed and breakfast to anyone in the near future! Thank you!

The inn is beautiful on the outside and on the inside. The furniture and decor take you back to another time period. Each room is unique in decor and all rooms have their own bath. You will leave the Queen Anne feeling relaxed and refreshed.

My husband and I found this B&B on line and weren't sure what to expect but the reviews sounded good so we took a chance. This experience far exceeded our expectations! The inn keepers Mike and Anita were a joy to be around. We found our selves sitting and chatting with them far longer than we would have anticipated. The food that Mike cooked was excellent and the house was really beautiful. We will definitely go back!

Anita and Mike were excellent hosts and the inn was gorgeous! The inn is close to downtown and parks to take a walk and relax in. Anita and Mike provided a welcoming, homey environment and we hope to come back again one day!

This B&B is charming in it's decor, and Anita and Mike, the owners, truly care for their guests with compassion. The breakfasts and afternoon teas are wonderful opportunity to mingle with them!

The inviting, warm atmosphere of the Queen Anne and the welcoming conversation with Mike and Anita set the stage for a charming first visit to Galena. We woke up to the smell of fresh coffee and breakfast each morning...the breakfast was unbeatable! In fact it was so great; we are looking forward to trying more recipes from the guest house cook book we purchased. After a full day of exploring the town we were ready for a snack; the parlor time offered great food and relaxing conversation. We would highly recommend staying at the Queen Anne Guest House and we look forward to our next trip back. Thank you Mike and Anita.

Our stay was in November when it was just getting cold. The Inn was warm and cozy and comfortable. The inn Keepers were very friendly and were very knowledgeable about Galena and the surrounding history which added to our stay. The Inn was well kept and very clean. It did show signs of its age with setting cracks in some of the rooms. Over all we had a wonderful stay and would go back there in the future.

The food was delicious and not at all "cookie cutter" B&B food. Our room was very nice and I loved being able to take a nice, long bath in an old fashioned clawfoot tub! Mike & Anita made our stay so comfortable, they genuinely seemed interested in each and every guest and we so enjoyed staying with them. May nice touches that made the stay just a little more personal.

We just returned from a weekend at Queen Anne's in Galena. It was very comfortable and is VERY close to the main strip of shops, restaurants and bars in Galena. The rooms were very clean and nice. Not too overdone. Rooms were very private. The breakfast the first morning was great but perhaps not typical. We had fresh trout with asparagus and tomatoes. It was delicious and broadend my horizons on breakfast. The second day breakfast was a combination of eggs with asparagus and an english muffin topped with canadian bacon, fresh tomato, cheese, sauce and spices. It was phenomenal. We only went to Parlor Hour (5pm) the second day where they provided Broccoli Cheese soup, snacks and wine while we played a game with some of the guests. The hosts are very nice and approachable. We are a young couple 26 & 27 and were a bit uncertain about staying at a B&B instead of a hotel. I have to say the hosts were GREAT, and it was kind of like staying with a funny, easy going and warm hearted Aunt and Uncle. We also got along great with the other guests that were staying there that weekend. We will definately return and I would strongly recommend to first time B&B visitors.

This was our first stay at a B&B and we are so happy that we choose the Queen Anne. It was the perfect weekend. Mike and Anita are such wonderful hosts and their home is charming and comfortable. We felt right at home the minute we walked in the door. The Queen Anne is within walking distance to several great restaurants, the downtown shopping, and other things to do. We enjoyed our time to get to know the other guests as well as our hosts at the Parlor Party and breakfast, which I can’t stop raving about to friends and family. The food was truly outstanding – hats off to the chef! They even have a late evening/early morning beverage cart with coffee and hot water for tea or cocoa. We highly recommend the Queen Anne and will be coming back ourselves. Thanks for the perfect weekend!

This was our first time at a Bed and Breakfast and we really enjoyed it! Close to everything in Galena. Mike and Anita were super hosts and very accommodating. They made us feel very welcome in their beautiful Queen Anne home. They prepared and shared a delicious breakfast with us and four other guests. Great heart warming stories by all. Nicky, the parrot was very entertaining. Anita, thanks for the Cookbook! Can't wait to start sampling all of your and Mike's recipes. Mike - Love the hat and the SLIPPERS! ;-) ~D & A from IL.

We come to Galena, IL at least once a year, usually in conjunction with the Country Fair which is held the second weekend in October. We have tried 8 B & B's in Galena so far. Even though several have been closer to Main Street in downtown Galena, none of them can match the location of the Queen Anne Guest House. (Galena is so very hilly that one invariably ends up driving from the B & B to downtown and back.) Driving and parking in Galena are two difficult propositions during the Country Fair. The last two years we have parked our car at the Queen Anne on Friday and left it there until we left on Sunday. The fair, main street shopping and restaurants are well within walking distance from the Queen Anne. Mike and Anita's breakfasts and parlor parties provide satisfying and tasty dishes and beverages, and the conversation is very pleasant.

The home is beautifully furnished with antiques throughout. Mike and Anita are very friendly and relaxed and wonderful hosts. During a late afternoon wine and treats break and also during breakfast they sat with the guests and prompted friendly and lively conversation. The food was delicious! The home is located within easy walking distance from downtown Galena, and is situated in a neighborhood of lovely homes with many large trees which made a leisurely walk very pleasant even on a very warm August day. We will definitely return on our next visit to Galena.

Everyone needs to get away from their hometown ever so often, and when our internal compasses pointed to the east (from Iowa), we hopped in the car, deciding on a whim to visit the historical town of Galena. Intending to just spend the day there, we hadn't made reservations anywhere overnight and ended up calling different B&B's in the area to see if there were open rooms available. Much to our surprise Queen Anne was the last place we called, & the owner Mike invited us to his beautiful home to view his rooms. He gave us a brief tour and history of the home as we are lovers of history. We immediately felt comfortable and decided to stay the night. What we liked particularly about the QA is that it is in a quiet area, yet just a relatively short jaunt across a walking bridge leads one to the main street, where restaurants, shops and other attractions abound. When it was time for us to return to the Queen Anne for the evening, we felt as if we belonged there. We shared tea and viewed historical books which are normally set out on the coffee table. While enjoying the faux fireplace (all the benefits of the warm, glowing ambiance without the heat), we listened to old LP records and relaxed. After a romantic evening & a restful night on a comfy bed, we joined the other guests at the table for breakfast. The food was fresh, simple, and presented well. We enjoyed visiting with the others, as well as the owner Mike who was a charming and gracious host. I purchased the Queen Anne Guest House Cookbook and plan on trying some of the particularly delicious sounding dishes. All in all, our stay in Galena was a happy, fond one and one which we will always remember. A lot of our memorable moments were spent at the Queen Anne, and though we only spent one wonderful evening there, we do plan on returning soon!

Great place to stay! This was our second time here. Loved each visit!

We had a vist that was beyond what we expected. The Queene Anne suite was soft and warm, yet somehow romantic and accessable. The beautiful tub was romantic, the fireplace exquisite, and the turret area where we had our coffee and drank wine was so beautiful and seemed meant for us. We loved the room and will return again no doubt. We rate our experience a ten. Wishing you a wonderful time here. Ron and Jeanne Marie

Three couples on a wine tour decided to stay in Galena mid-trip. We certainly found the bed and breakfast to meet our expectations. Mike was friendly and very informative and willing to give us insights into the community etc. The rooms were comfortable and met our needs. As with any home, the water pressure fluctuated with the number of people showering but certainly not a major issue. Breakfast was great, delicious steamed pears and walnuts to start the day! The inn is slightly off the main downtown area and a short walk to the shopping, but just a 1 minute drive if you can find parking downtown. We have no complaints, although Mike the Innkeeper seems a bit preoccupied with his parrot!
