I came here with a small group for a Jane Austen Retreat a couple of years ago and have been wanting to come back since. The Bed and Breakfast is a beautifully and historically restored manor, but with modern amenities that make it a very comfortable stay. The owner, Suzanne, made us feel at home and has a wealth of knowledge about Jane Austen and the periods her books took place. The stay was magical and I would highly recommend this lovely B&B.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Governor's House and wish we had been able to stay longer! The home is beautiful and very comfortable. Our host, Suzanne, made us feel so welcome and had lots of tips for our vacation. Breakfast was out of this world delicious. I highly recommend The Governor's House - we loved our visit!
I live in Connecticut, the land of B&B's so why would I travel to Vermont (over 4 hours away) to stay for a weekend? Because the Governor's House in Hyde Park is worth it. The view from the back of the house is breathtaking. The inn is in a beautifully restored historic home. The rooms are unique and lovely. It is peaceful and deeply relaxing there, restorative. That's not even the best part, its the hostess, Suzanne. I can not believe she runs the entire inn and prepares all the absolutely scrumptious food by herself! She is a wonder. There are all these little touches, fresh flowers, warm cookies on the side board, the lovely garden, the downstairs bathroom that is covered in a fantastic mural, late check out and fresh local apples to snack on in the fruit bowl. I went with a girlfriend for one of her Jane Austen weekends and had a marvelous time! High Tea, quill pen writing, juicy book discussions, sumptuously prepared Regency style cuisine and English country dancing! Needless to say, this is an annual tradition. Give yourself the gift of a stay. You deserve it.
We recently had the priviledge of staying at the Governor's House in Hyde Park, VT. The owner and hostess, Suzanne, made us feel welcome and very comfortable. We enjoyed the Afternoon Tea which she has studied abroad and has become very expert. We had a very stimulating and delighting conversation with the other guests and hostess over tea. As it was our 50th anniversary, Suzanne had all the "special touches" to help make it a memorable occasion for us. The fallen golden leaves made the area seem like a backdrop of autumn countryside. Our room was quaint yet very comfortable and cozy at the same time. We hope to go back for another stay as soon as possible. Dalton and Judy Gossett.
My husband and I decided to have a small, intimate wedding at the Governor’s House in Hyde Park and we are so happy that we did. The house itself was clean, well maintained, and beautiful. The landscaping was welcoming and the lawn a relaxing place where our families and friends could relax and enjoy each other’s company. Suzanne, the innkeeper, took care of most of the details of our wedding and was very efficient with a thoughtful attention to detail. The food was fresh and delicious and arranged beautifully on the dining room table. The cake was simple yet elegant and very tasty. Having our wedding at the Governor’s House was easy, inexpensive and memorable.
Attended family reunion associated with a 50th wedding anniversary. Wanted to be close to everyone yet have privacy. Inn was beautiful--we stayed in the former governor's office. Lovely room, furniture, and very comfortable chairs and bed. Breakfast was yummy, and Suzanne gave us some good hints about things to do in the area. Our stay at the Governor's House was a definite highlight of our trip!
The inn keeper has thought of everything. The entire house is beautiful and inviting. You will get the BEST night's sleep as the rooms are so comfortable and the bedding exquisite. The innkeeper is at the ready to assist you in planning your day whether you're staying in or going out (read, watch movies, play games, hike, ski, shop). I can't wait to go back!
After staying at The Governor's mansion for three days & two nights I can recommend with confidence. This inn is a unique opportunity to step into history but enjoy modern conveniences. I was impressed by the attention the innkeeper, Suzanne, paid to the smallest detail to make my stay comfortable & enjoyable. The shelves of movies & selection of books made me want to stay longer than my schedule permitted. My room & bath were very clean, the food was delicious & the views of the mountains were beautiful.
My fiance and I stayed in the English room over a long weekend in January. The inn is beautifully restored and was the perfect spot for a winter weekend escape. The breakfast was delicious, especially the muffins (the innkeeper was kind of enough to pack up extras for our long drive home). The inn's library was a great spot to sip wine and relax after two days of skiing at both Stowe and Smugglers Notch. We look forward to returning again soon.
My daughter had her wedding and reception here for a small group of family and friends. Everything was perfect and the host, Suzanne Boden, was most helpful to my daughter in planning and execution of her special day. A wonderful inn, elegant and historic. The dinner was delicious.
I love this place. I've been there twice, once with my parents and once with my girlfriend, and it was great both times. It's in a beautiful part of Vermont, and the house itself is gorgeous too. All the rooms are big and stocked with bathrobes and amenities more like a hotel than a B&B. And the innkeeper is very attentive - she even brought us tea in our room when we checked in. Definitely hope to make it back there again.
I loved the charm of the rooms in this inn. It was clear that the innkeeper poured her creative energy into them and added special touches to each one. The bed was so wide and comfortable, my husband and I never wanted to leave it! We had delicious meals served to us and had a vast library of books, games and movies to keep us entertained, as well as nearby nature trails. The innkeeper paid us special attention that is so far unmatched by other b and b's I've stayed in. If you're pulling through Vermont this luxurious and cozy inn is definitely worth a stop.
I always go the bed and breakfast route when traveling and the Governor's House is a great find! It has the coziness of a b&b but the cleanliness and quality of a hotel. From the rooms to the food, no detail has been ignored, which makes for a very pampered experience. The Governor's House really made an impression on me and I will definitely come back.
Perfect! I’ve stayed in many bed and breakfasts and this one has been by far the most enjoyable. The house itself is great – beautiful, clean, and cozy. But what really makes the the place stand out is the hospitality itself. The woman who runs it was extremely friendly, welcoming, and helpful, the food was delicious. We were served breakfast in bed and ice cream at night, she helped us pick out movies and had all the inside knowledge of the best places to ski nearby and even offered afternoon tea. We came to ski but were tempted to spend much of the trip inside. I cannot speak highly enough about the governors house!
My wife and I were married here just 2 days ago. I cannot say enough about Suzanne and "The Governor's House". I have been in the culinary field for over 20 years and I completly enjoyed the simple elegance of every meal Suzanne prepared. Her use of fresh local produce and products such as maple syrup, berries, etc... From her Ham & Cream Cheese stuffed french toast, Suzanne proudly call's her version of the Montycristo, to our tastey wedding meal and pretty cake. Her choice's of the J.O.P. & photographer exceeded our wish's as well. Our host was professional, freindly and efficient. The House had Class, Character & Comfort all around!
My wife and I were married at Governor's House last week. We really enjoyed the quite, serene setting, and Suzanne took very good care of us from the minute we walked in until when we checked out. We will be back for anniversaries in the future I'm sure!
My husband and I chose the Governor's house for our destination wedding on 6/7/8. We live in St. Louis, Missouri. Suzanne planned everything. Her recommendations for JOP, photographer and flowers were all top notch. The Inn is beautiful. The outdoor ceremony was spectacular with the mountains in the background. The food at the reception was fabulous. Every single guest, 38 in all, had nothing but high praise. Suzanne is an amazing cook and the inn is very romantic. She is extremely organized. Our experience was a positive one. Hopefully we'll make it back to the Governor's House for our first anniversary.
