Volcano Artist Cottage is located on the grounds of Volcano Garden Arts, a cultural hub of the arts community in Volcano Village. We are just one mile from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Award-winning Café Ono is on site serving homemade fresh organic foods for lunch Tuesday through Sunday. Soak in your private hot tub after viewing the glow of Halemaumau Crater at night. Awaken to native birdsong of the apapane that often communicate through your windows from their rainforest home. Enjoy your morning coffee or tea in the garden or in the private cottage kitchen. Banana bread, fresh fruits, yogurt and granola are stocked for you. We specialize in Honeymoons, Anniversaries and Birthdays.

We spent three enjoyable nights here, while visiting with family and touring Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and other natural wonders. Ira's Artist Cottage is perfect for a single or a couple who want a quiet comfortable place to relax after a busy day of touring. The four person outdoor jacuzzi around the corner from the front door of the cottage was very relaxing. Fruit, delicious granola, banana bread, coffee, and a choice of teas provided a good start to each day. On the same grounds as the Cottage is the Volcano Garden Arts gallery, filled with a wide variety of local arts and crafts, and Cafe Ono, a great vegetarian restaurant. The entrance to the National Park is just four miles upslope. We very much enjoyed our time at the Artist Cottage, and recommend it highly to anyone who wants an authentic local base for exploring Goddess Pele's natural volcanic wonders.

Loved our stay at the Artist Cottage. We especially appreciated (since it got chilly in the evening) the heated bed mattress pad. The grounds are so lovely and Ira is quite personable. The distance to Volcanoes National Park is great. We also enjoyed having fruit and granola supplied in the cottage along with some milk etc. We wish we would have tried the hot tub but never made it out there so we'll save that for next time!

My wife and I stayed here on our delayed honeymoon. We absolutely loved it! The cottage was so cozy and private. In addition, we loved walking around the grounds to see the lovely artwork as well as the friendly rabbit Noble. You literally have the whole area to yourself after 5 pm. If you stay, you must spend some time in the Tree Sanctuary! The staff were extremely friendly and made sure that fresh fruit and bread was available to us each morning. We even got a chance to speak with the owner Ira and he was so nice. This place is a must stay if you are planning to go to Volcano National Park as it is less than a 5 minute drive away. We hope to visit the Big Island again in the future and will definitely be staying here again.

Wonderful cozy cottage with fresh fruit and banana bread, Big Island coffee, granola, milk, etc for breakfast. Attractive grounds to wander and a hot tub to warm up in after a cool night viewing the volcanic glow at the nearby National Park.

Me and my girlfriend spend 3 wonderful night in the Volcano Artist Cottage. We had a warm welcom and the cottage was cozy. It is really well located, 5 minutes from the Volcano park. Definitively a good place to stay for a couple.

The space was small, but we were at Volcanos NP all day, so the cottage worked out well. It was quiet and close to the NP and the little downtown area. The local Thai place was good for dinner (not many options).

What a beautiful, peaceful, cozy cottage to stay in near the volcano! Ira is a wonderful, thoughtful host, with lots of good suggestions! The Zen bathroom was a delight to look at! We had too much luggage for the limited space in the cottage, but made do. Delighted with the apapane bird (red and black Hawaiian songbird) that perched on our window and sang to us every morning! Enjoyed exploring the beautiful garden grounds, the hot tub and seeing Noble the rabbit. Very convenient to get to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park--viewed the amazing glow from the crater at night, drove the Chain of Craters road all the way, hiked to the Petroglyphs, and saw rainbows and high surf at the end of the road. Amazing views!

If you are looking for something that is very serene, created with lots of love and thoughtfulness about every detail – this is the place to be. There is a art gallery and cafeteria on the property, but at night you will be all by yourself at this very cute cottage in the middle of a mysterious garden. We were pleasantly surprised to find a beautiful flower bouquet, fruit basket and even freshly baked banana bread at our arrival. Then we continued discoveries of anything we could possible need or want: coffee, teas, yogurt and milk in the fridge, spices and oil in case if you decide to cook, toiletries, books (if a place has a Little Prince on the shelf – it speaks a volume to me!), old movies, flashlights, and the list goes on… Jacuzzi under the stars after long day at the Volcano National park – what can be better? I wish we could have a chance to meet with the owner artist (you can find his works at the gallery on the premises and Volcano Art Center as well) Ira Ono and thank him personally. Maybe next time…

Got to the property about 3:30pm (check-in starts at 3pm), and were greeted at the gate by owner/host Ira Ono,what a gracious, nice guy!! The cottage is so cute, and sits off to the side of this working art store and eatery.....it is made private by strategically grown plants and shrubs. It feels like you are IN the rain forest, and we woke up each of our 2 mornings to peaceful birdsong and cool breezes. Fresh fruit, breakfast fixins, coffee and tea are stocked for you before you arrive, and we enjoyed each lovely morning. The hot tub behind the bedroom was a life-saver to soothe away the kinks and sore muscles after a day of hiking and exploring - - -decadent and divine!! After about 5:30pm, the property staff have all departed, and this cozy indulgence is private and inviting!!...we decided that a bottle of volcano wine partnered perfectly with the relaxing bubbles!! LOVED this peaceful retreat, and will DEFINITELY be back to visit again!!
