Aloha Crater Lodge and Lava Tube

11-3966 Lanihuli Road , Volcano, HI 96785 USA (Show map)

Nestled in the Hawaiian fern forest and situated on the edge of Kazumura Cave and Lava tube, Aloha Crater Lodge welcomes you. Located less than 2 miles from the entrance to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, our rooms are designed with your privacy in mind. Every room has it's own entrance and gorgeous views of the natural Ohia and Hapu'u landscape. A continental breakfast is placed in your room daily and includes homemade Hawaiian tea bread, a basket of fresh fruit and complimentary Hawaiian blend coffee and tea service. Enjoy your coffee while overlooking our collapsed lava tube. Kazumura cave is a treasure to behold. Breathe in the beauty and majesty of the days of old when lava created this incredible sight. After breakfast you might drive down to Hilo, about 30 scenic miles, where you can shop til you drop or beach it for the day. Unwind before dinner by taking a hot tub. Situated near the lavatube for your relaxation and enjoyment. A gourmet dinner awaits at any one of the fabulous restaurants located in Volcano Village, Thai Thai, Lava Rock Cafe, Kilauea Lodge or The Rim at the Volcano House. If you have dinner at the Volcano House, view one of the HOTTEST attractions happening in the Volcanoes National Park, Halema'uma'u crater. Hawaii Volcanos Park is one of the few places in the world where you can view a live active volcano. For most this is a once in a lifetime opportunity not to be missed. Remember, this is how these islands were made! L

Would definitely stay again

Aloha Crater Lodge is a wonderful place to stay. We had room #1 and loved the lush tropical jungle all around the house. Each morning, we greeted Bella the local bunny rabbit and relished the wonderful breakfast that Dan & Shannon always left for us (Lilikoi jelly, muffins, granola & oats, orange juice, yogurts, milk, chocolate coffee, bananas, rambutan, apples, papaya, and oranges). We both had never eaten more fruit in our lives! It was wonderful. (-: The Lodge was easy to find using phone GPS. Dan & Shannon also email you directions telling you exactly how to get there. The lodge itself is lovely stained wood with pretty paintings inside and waxy flowers outside. We would definitely stay there again.

Amazing spot

Would recommend this to anyone. Gorgeous room, lovely personal service, the lava tube tour was amazing.

Hotel Impossible needs to visit here!

We arrived in the early evening. It looked like a private home at first, and we could not find the office. We drove around to the back and there was a small office sign above a sliding glass door. I knocked on the door and several dogs came out to greet us and then the owner. I was sure we had gone to a private home instead of a lodge. We were taken to our room and we were shocked to say the least. It was damp, moldy, not clean, very dirty carpet and plastic patio chairs around a old table. I really felt like I should sleep with my clothing on!! We were there just for overnight thank goodness. The breakfast was 3 pieces of toast, with a jar of jelly that had been dipped in by many guests before us. I passed on that and ate one of the yogurts that were provided. The granola was in an old pasta sauce jar. I would have not taken a shower in the bathroom even if you had paid me. The grounds were lovely in the front and when you pulled in - we walked around the grounds and the back area looked like a junk yard seriously - no maintenance that I could see anywhere. What a shame as it could be so much more with just a little care. We do not recommend this lodge at all...

Great stay close to Kilauea

Lava tube tour is a Plus!

Shannon and Dan were great; the accommodations were nice, clean and quiet too! We loved being so close to the National Park. The lava tour was defiantly an added bonus and well worth the stay! Dan did a great tour. The grounds are beautiful.

Excellent family lodging

This lodge was a great place to unwind after our long trip. The vacation rental had plenty of room for our family of 5. Dan and Shannon are fantastic hosts, and went out of their way to make us comfortable. Don't miss the lava tube! MUCH better than the one in the park!

Very very very cool lava tube

This was a good place to stay. Their referral saved us $200 on a helicopter tour. But far and away the coolest thing was the lava tube.

Great lava tube on the property!

We only stayed for one night and the highlight was definitely the lava tube onsite. Thanks to Dan for giving us an excellent tour of it. The room was what was expected with what we paid for - we were just looking for a clean room/bathroom and nothing more.

Hawaiian Tea Bread
Made fresh daily. Hawaiian tea bread is a combination of banana bread with pineapple and coconut. This is a perfect compliment to our fresh island fruits. Top it with one of our homemade jams.
