Rick and Carmen and their remarkable staff consistently offer the best B&B in the world. And I have been to a few places. The warmth and heart extended to all guests, the marvelous breakfasts, the wealth of valuable history shared all combine to make your stay one you will repeat time and again.
Upon the recommendation of a friend of our host in Ajijic, we switched our booking to Casa Zuniga - best choice we could have made! Perched at the base of Momumento Pipila (useful for taxi drivers), one has a commanding view of city. We shared a two bedroom suite & were served a different traditional breakfast each morning. Rick, the host, cannot be summarized in a review, but he designed and built the casa from the ground up and generated most of the custom furnishings and decor. He supplies guests with funicular passes, so the Jardin is only minutes away. If you are out beyond funicular hours, a taxi to Monumento Pipila is only $50 pesos. We were in Guanajuato during an unexpected cold snap & the winds were intense on the top of the overlook, but it is still where we will return.
We stayed in Casa Zuniga in December. The house is beautiful and clean. Our room was spacious and had a beautiful view of the city. The daily breakfast was delicious and Rick and Carmen are caring, thoughtful hosts.
Great and a funky place to stay. Really interesting art/decorations make it fun. Convenient to center of city via funicular that is only steps away from place. Excellent breakfasts, hosts, views and rooms. Would definitely stay here again. Lots of steps in Guanajuato and also at this property for those of you not so mobile and have a concern. I personally like the exercise...
Spectacular views from rooftop B&B. Our immaculate and spacious room—“Max” featured a balcony overlooking the colorful colonial town of Guanajuato. It had a comfortable king size bed, lots of natural light and free Wi-Fi. Run by Rick, an affable ex-pat and his wife Carmen, the B&B is a sprawling complex with a well-maintained lap pool, beautiful tile work throughout, intriguing metal designs, whimsical art work, pottery and native plants. A substantial breakfast and funicular tickets are included in the room charge. Since Casa Zuniga is high on a hill, a stone’s throw from El Pipila, (the city center is accessed by a funicular), it’s quiet and Rick’s excellent security system ensures guests’ safety. The only down side were the dozens and dozens of steps to and from the B&B. Anyone who’s not in tip-top physical shape should pass up this charming B&B.
Had a wonderful stay with Carmen and Rick. Visiting Casa Zuniga is like taking up residence in an art gallery; sculptures, murals, paintings, photos - everywhere you look there is something to capture the attention. Not to mention the views of Guanajuato. Our room (Morgan) was spacious, comfortable and had fantastic views of the town. As for the breakfasts - wow! Authentic, ever changing, plentiful and delicious. Carmen and Rick are deeply passionate about their town, it's people, culture and history. They are kind and generous hosts who made our stay in this fascinating town all the more enjoyable. Deb and James - Australia
The best B&B I have ever stayed in. The house is like a castle. The room that I stayed in, Morgan, is spacious with big comfortable bed. Above all, you will get the best view in Guanajuato from this B&B. Price is reasonable too so I highly recommended it.
I stayed at Casa Zuniga with my girlfriend. We stayed at the Max for 3 nights and enjoyed our stay very much. Rick was warm and welcoming and offered many good advice prior to and during our stay. Our room was very quiet and was separate from the main house; we have our own balcony which overlooks the entire city of Guanajuato - very romantic and picturesque. The casa offers daily breakfast -- totally blown away by the food! It was AMAZING! Rick's place is absolutely gorgeous. We would recommend Casa Zuniga to anyone traveling to Guanajuato. You will enjoy it as much as we did. We can't wait to go back with our friends!
Because the B&B is at the top of the hill next to the funicular, the view of Guanajuato is splendid. But, even though we were given funicular passes, the novelty of it wore off. and for people who like to stay out late, the funicular's last trip is 9:50. After that you'd have to climb the stairs or take a taxi.
Very eclectic & enjoyable accommodations with wonderful hosts Rick & Carmen. The breakfasts were excellent & wish we could've stayed longer to sample more of the tastes. The location was fabulous with outstanding views overlooking the city of Guanajuato.
A unique and unparalleled experience with the personal attention of the owner of the house, the price and the attention they give is much better than in a 5 star hotel, the best? FOOD! Thanks Rick for your amaizing house and your attention. Elia
Rooms were extremely comfy with comfy beds, sheets and towels. Lots of common areas to hang out with tables and chairs to enjoy the views. Breakfasts were incredible. Something different each of the five mornings we were there - all delicious. The owner was very knowledgable about the history of Guanajuato and loved sharing - he even took us on a private tour of the mines and the tunnels. The view from Casa Zuniga was unbelievable, especially at sunset.
We were greeted when our taxi arrived at the top of the steps by a friendly gentleman who helped us carry our bags down to Casa Zuniga. From that point on we were continuously amazed by the service, views, and delicious breakfasts. We were given tickets to ride the Furnicular up and down to town so it was just a few steps each way. The beds and linens were luxurious, there was plenty of hot water and water pressure, the owner was a wealth of knowledge and actually took us on a couple of personal tours of the tunnels and the mines. I can't imagine that there is any place to stay in Guanajuato that could be better!
To get a good perspective of Guanajuato one simply must experience the view from Pipili. To wake up to it from Casa Zuniga is even better. And to start your day with breakfast there will set you right til dinner.
Another great stay with Rick and Carmen. Rick and his energy made this most recent stay enjoyable. The accommodations were excellent ...after staying in a place with low water pressure for a month in San Miquel de Allende, it was a pleasure taking a shower here. The breakfast was excellent as always....thank you Carmen. The view and Rick's historical artwork cannot be beaten. This is clearly the place to stay while visiting Guanajuato. Thanks Rick and Carmen. Rella and Roger
This is perfect place to stay. With very hospitable hosts. Fantastic views from any of the rooms and easy access to the town center. The breakfast served is personalized is very good. Would recommend to anyone.
Terrific hotel with a spectacular view. Our host Rick could not have been more hospitable. The room was very spacious and comfortable with a beautiful deck to take in the sights and sun. Breakfast was delicious and lots of it!! We roils definitely stay there again.
We stayed at Casa Zuniga over Christmas with Rick and Carmen. The room we chose, the Margarita Room was huge and full of light with a gorgeous view of Guanajuato. Staying at the casa was definitely a experience worth travelling for. Every corner was filled with interesting art and sculpture pieces. The breakfasts have to be mentioned of course because they were to die for and we managed to sample a variety of mexican breakfast items that we would not have otherwise ordered for ourselves. RIck and Carmen were warm and lovely, thank you so much for welcoming us into your home!
Unique B & B with rooms built on a hillside. Interesting corridors filled with unusual paintings & sculptures. Wonderful breakfasts. Our dynamo host Rick gave us an entertaining & informative tour of a silver mine. Thanks to both Rick & Carmen for a memorable stay.
Fantastic location, wonderful breakfasts, exceptionally clean rooms, close to everything. Carmen and Rick are wonderful hosts and treat you like family. Will definitely stay at Casa Zuniga on our next trip to Guanajuato.
Casa Zuniga is beautiful, charming, and unique. The view of Guanajuato from our balcony was spectacular. Rick and Carmen went above what was expected to make our stay truly enjoyable. Highly recommended.
My 2nd visit to this city was enhanced due to our stay at Casa Zuniga B&B. Rick & Carmen went out of their way to make us feel comfortable & spend time with us to share their deep knowledge of the rich cultural heritage of Guanajuato. The grounds of the B&B are immaculately kept up. The breakfast was delicious and on point all the time. Our room the Margarita has at least 180 degrees views of the city landscape - fantastic! We will definitely come back again to Casa Zuniga B&B and tell our friends and family!
I stayed at Casa Zuñiga for 2 nights. First, location was great, a full view of the city and in it's in a very secure street. The owners were very attentive and always asking if we needed anything. I recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone visiting Guanajuato from the states, you will not be disappointed. I will return
